Em, I came into the whole 'Benz-Garfield are desperate to get paired and/or make KimKenta happen' thing halfway through and I feel like I'm still desperately playing catch-up. Congratulations to them on making Part A happen and good luck with Part B, though! But in the interests of me continuing to play catch-up on this whole fascinating process, do you know if there's a timeline of events or a tiktok folder or *something* out there to help me piece together when all of this properly took off and when Benz in particular decided to go full unhinged with it?

Anon if you weren't watching Pit Babe as it aired, I hope you are prepared for the emotional roller coaster that happens when you are waiting every week to see if Kim and Kenta even get screentime together. I felt like I was watching the last several episodes of Pit Babe on a fever high.

I am actually working on a timeline, but it’s not fully cohesive nor complete yet, since there’s simply so much to sift through on multiple social media platforms, and no platform has a perfect search function. It also doesn’t yet include social media posts where they were simply just… flirting with each other, but all the social media posts on the blog should at least be dated.

If you want to go through things more quickly, the archive page has a tag filter (one of my favorite tumblr features), and you can swap in any tag you like in the url, since the dropdown only lists featured tags.

It’s also hard to pinpoint a single moment when Benz decided to go unhinged with it, since he’s been pushing it from pretty early on. There also aren’t any dedicated translators in BenzGarfield fandom who are fluent in both Thai and English, so we either get machine translations or translations that are few and far between. There's also a lot of old posts that have been deleted, or accounts that have gone private, so even just the act of gathering everything is an effort, let alone organizing it into a big picture.

Here's what I can give as a highlight timeline though.

They met in late 2022 (Love Fest Thailand in November or December I think, I couldn't find pics, but I did just watch an old interview last night where they talk more in depth on their first impressions, which I plan on recording and uploading, but Garfield said something that can be paraphrased to the extent of "Do people this friendly and charming exist in real life?")

Benz was mingling with Change2561 actors, but they officially became coworkers in Feb 2023 when they were both cast in Pit Babe

Boys Journey started filming very shortly after—I don’t have a sharp timeline but the range is sometime from Feb to May. Benz was already going at it in Boys Journey (“BenzGarfield forever” - ep 10), when they ostensibly didn’t know their roles or if they’d be put in an actual ship (they were somewhat rotated around with ppl until later in Boys Journey, when I imagine the staff had chemistry based partnerships in mind)

In March, Garfield said he would choose Benz to flirt with out of all the cast.

By August, Benz was asking Garfield to take his last name 🤷‍♂️ (but Garfield keeps trying to take Benz's first name instead)

There was a lot going on while Pit Babe was filming (Sept-Nov). They were excited about filming the two whole scenes they had together, they tweeted about it the night before, they were improvising what communication between Kenta and Kim might be like, Benz was visiting set even when he didn't have any scenes (albeit likely for the free food, but keeping Garfield company while Charlie fakes his death is a nice bonus)

I haven’t been able to find it again (yet)(thank you YT’s horrible search function) but there was a livestream last year where Benz talked about Kenta calling Kim and inviting him to Thailand, which… never happened, so I can only assume they were at the point of making things up (which actors sometimes do when they need a better grip on a character), and probably explains the really loaded look they gave each other in the elevator, bc to them there had been more interactions between their characters.

The first event they did together (outside of full-cast stuff) was the RealMe sponsorship in September 2023, but it was presented as Garfield & Benz (didn’t stop Benz from once again asking Garfield to take his name). The first time (that I’m aware of) that they had an event with their ship name was the GarfieldBenz x Central Rayong event in December 2023. Filming was completed in November, so they obviously had known for a while that KimKenta weren’t a couple, but that wasn’t going to stop them from bickering over which of their characters would like the other first

In February, they were posting really shippy stuff right before the Pit Babe finale, which felt like queerbaiting at the time, but we didn’t know that Long Beans was being planned (they would begin the physio workshop a month later), so I think this was either a “we’re excited we get to play a ship but can’t say anything yet” or a “staff hasn’t made up their minds on casting us so let’s just show some potential.”

Also at the finale in February, Garfield said he wanted to be Kim's faen.

By the time Long Beans was announced in March and they were officially announced as BenzGarfield, there was no holding back, especially on the KimKenta front. Benz made a fuss during Long Beans presscon about them not getting any screentime together, and during the Changing event in April they talked about going to the writers and begging for KimKenta/KentaKim.

Anytime they're asked about S2, they're vague about it, and I imagine they will be until we see something onscreen (they have to keep me desperate and foaming at the mouth), but they have expressed that they want to continue working as screen partners for a long time. If KimKenta happens I don't think anyone will be happier than those two.

I hope this helps, anon! Trying to capture and organize all of their moments is a daily task, and it sometimes feels like I am Sisyphus.

Anon, what are you here for, if not to prove yourself as the Lou/Tommy defense team captain? For no reason, at that, because I never said Oliver dislikes Lou or Tommy. I said I think my earlier assumption that he prefers/ships Buddie, was correct, and I stand by it.

Y’all can try as hard as you want to play the “You don’t know them!” or “He’s doing his jobs!” cards, but 1) the same applies to BuckTommy, and Lou making folks pay for headcanons, and 2) is intentionally dismissive.

Of course we don’t know Oliver. Anyone who thinks they do is crazy, but that doesn’t mean Oliver saying for years that he’s open to Buddie, saying this season he was prepared to play Buck as queer, and consistently liking or reposting Buddie fan art is all a lie. Oliver is allowed to have a preferred ship the same way Lou is, but I have yet to see a BT shipper say what’s he’s doing is weird.

Y’all need that validation because Oliver is not giving it, but is also not damning y’all in interviews. He doesn’t appear to be that kind of person, aka he is doing his job properly. He’s neutral or positive about the storylines he likes, and is seemingly neutral to silent on the ones he doesn’t. Pointing that out has nothing to do with Lou or Tommy, tbh. It’s about Oliver’s apparent preference.

Lastly, Buddie didn’t run him off Twitter, as he’s already said. It was people who shipped Buddie and wanted him to confirm them becoming canon, and would say he was queerbaiting if he posted Buddie despite Buck dating a woman in canon. Oliver literally said this year, he left Twitter because he wanted to discuss the ship and Buck’s queerness yet couldn’t. Now he can, because Buck is bi and the relationship is technically more possible. So what is your point in bringing this up, beyond trying to act like he dislikes the ship yet has to talk about it? He don’t talk about shit he don’t want to, as is established by his constant behavior.

I know y’all higher than thou types love to pretend celebrities aren’t actual people and can never be authentic without exposing their entire lives to social media, but it’s not true. Who knows how he really and truly feels about a single thing, but I mean… he’s been consistent for years. Oliver is famous and appeasing fans is part of his job, but that doesn’t make him a walking empty shell. If that’s how you prefer to see him, go ahead. If ignoring his posts and words unless they’re in praise to Lou and Tommy works best for you to continue shipping what you ship, go ahead. But slithering up your pedestal to talk down on Buddie shippers who do pay attention to his socials, is a waste of your time.

My rereading of THG

In the previous post I gave my context but the only important thing is that today I finished my rereading of the original trilogy, which I read once when I was 11-13 years old, and did not reread until now that I am older. I also think it is relevant to say that I am Mexican, and I will make a small comparison of my previous impressions with my current ones.

One aspect that I already mentioned is that at the time I did not have a negative view of the United States, nor was I very aware of the effects of American imperialism, it was a place that I idealized to a certain extent, a trait that has notoriously changed now that I am older and more aware of various aspects. So I think ultimately I was able to fully appreciate many of the criticisms that I ignored or underestimated when I was younger.

Although I also have my criticis of the trilogy, but that is perhaps for another day, what I do have to admit is that reading in the first person with that language so,,,how to say it. Simple? After so many years, it was like, I could really feel this was written for teenagers, and I actually had to get used to the style, hahaha however I appreciate it, I really have learned to appreciate a text that can communicate without putting too much spin on things, and be clear for all audiences.

Of the three books, at the time catching fire was my favorite I remember it, but now mockinjay really had my heart, it was the one I had the hardest time finishing but I think that was its charm, because I really felt what I was reading, and I had to stop reading it, because I need to process what I read! Also obviously at the time I had more free time to read hahaha, this time it took me months, because I could only read it from time to time on my trips to the university when I did not fall asleep on them PLS

About the characters, I think my younger self and my current self came to the same conclusion although for very different reasons, I was, in my more Peeta way, terribly in love with Katniss when I was little! and now, I think she remains intact as my favorite character of the three books, but for different reasons, now I appreciate better other traits of her, I want to protect her, I admire her too much, I want to give her a hug, and her role as a big sister, and how much she cares about the people around her, she is too human, and I feel her too much (Well,,,,I may not have left that Peeta on me behind haha.)

Prim is another character that I will say from the three books really captured my attention, she is very interesting beyond her bond with Katniss, although ultimately the relationship of the two, makes my heart break into a thousand pieces and then put it back together. So I'm choosing the Everdeen girls as my favs of all THG trilogy.

Going with each book, (important caveat that these are my tastes, my opinions, I'm talking about characters I found interesting, and the ones I not mentioned is not because I hate them or anything, I just wouldn't put them under a telescope nor go to battle for them, which is needed to be a fav of mine).

1 Book. Rue. (Rue always was a character I loveed, her friendship with Katniss always warm my heart and I believed she was the most adorable!!! And Im OBSSESED how in a way she reflect a lot of Prim yes but too of Katniss (this make sense I SWEAAAR). Too she keep the record of be the only death of this saga that I cry. I will never no be sad of such a young baby! BABY! Dying in that way (ok I know she wasnt exactly a baby but she almost was... She was so so young. 🥺

Lavinia (NAH BC I GASPED. I GASPED REREADING HER STORY. IS SO SO DEVASTATING AND HER FEW INTERACTIONS WITH KATNISS? I will NEVER be the same. Would love know more of her life.

2 Book. Gale. Bonnie and Twill.

In general I think NOW I UNDERSTAND GALE IN A WAY I NEVER DID. And Im afraid to say to my younger self (bc I used found him annoying) that now I believe he is one of the most interesting bitches around 🤷‍♂️ (I guess is the fault of Snow. I read a book from his annoying horrific pov. Now I KNOW HOW AN ANNOYING BITCH LOOK and thats not Gale at all... BUT THATS MY OPINION).

Ok. Bonnie and Twill ALWAYS WERE MY OBSSESION. NOW THE FEELING COME BACK.

3 Book. Boggs. Cressida. Pollux. Johanna.

😭 OK THIS A LONG LIST. BUT IT SUMMARIZE IN TWO OF THESE I ALWAYS LIKED (Boggs and Johanna. Just again the reasons why changed). And two are now adopted by me bc I believe they are so interesting and would know more of them post war (Cressida and Pollux).

Everlark is still a very cute and realistic romance, Plutarch is my new enemy (I have beef with him hahaha), and I think I like the epilogue now. Before I saw it as boring, I can understand why some people have problems with it but I think make a lot of sense and is a nice way to tie everything regarding the personal growth of Katniss and the born of a better nation.

I conclude the Hunger Games are too a very well written and planned story with relevant messages to reflect about (I not mention wich ones bc I think everybody we kinda see them, the explotation of children in the complex of enterteinment industry at the same time a reflection of childhood steal by an opressive system is one for example.). Is not perfect but is so well done. I like TBOSAS better and consider is by far so much better write and planned but yeah. Im vibing to see what SOTR offer!

the brenwulf fic is a love song to the_deep_magic's blumendrei fics! Bitte is an old and enduring favourite, but Drei is closer in tone and topic to this particular WIP of mine, where bren is a horny teenager who loves his girlfriend very much and is confused/upset/distraught that she keeps involving eadwulf in their relationship, and even more confusing/upsetting/distressing is how much bren likes being with another man. the idea is that there's a lot of boundary pushing and gender fuckery 👍

this fic is not particularly close to finished because the WIP is currently rather flat, repetitive, and i fear simply not very interesting. here's a snippet that i still like:

the modern vday dinner is a direct sequel to well, the blumendrei modern vday fic, which i started because the fic i published felt too messy and complicated and i wanted a fluffy and sweet chaser. almost half a year has passed since then and i actually feel much better about having posted that fic the way it is, so 🤷‍♂️ i think it's very likely i'll repurpose this one to some other point in the timeline, because i never got very far into this WIP anyway:

Their sixteen courses passed quickly enough. Bren oohed over each of them as Wulf snapped pictures. Astrid let the chatter fall to the wayside as plates of familiar and unfamiliar slices of sushi melted in her mouth. The wasabi hidden under the fish sparking bright notes of pleasure up in her nose. The yellowtail sashimi was so good that Astrid made a mental note to order it more often, even if she already knew it would never be as good anywhere else. And who knew tuna could even do that?

hello ! i have always been very enamored by smooth collies, and always dream of owning one some day, but never directly interacted with any or with the breed community (im not a dog show/fancy person) but i do have a question about them, which probably applies to all collies, not just smooths. but i have noticed that when i see people post photos of their older collies, ages i would normally have considered more middle aged, they look REALLY old. like kind of clumpy or greasy looking fur, skin quality seems looser, and very very grey around the muzzle. they look like theyre roughly 12 by most breed standards, but then i find out theyre actually 8 or 9. are they a short lived breed or is that just a cosmetic thing and they dont actually act as worn down as they look? or am i maybe only seeing poorly bred dogs? just generally interested in your take on that!

Admittedly I don't have much experience with Smooths, but - Collies aren't a short-lived breed, but, imo, aren't long-lived, either. Collies super consistently hit 10-12 years, usually closer to 12, but I've heard of some hitting 14 or 15 (one of my friend's bitches made it to almost 15). That said, I know quite a few veteran Roughs (7+ years, mostly in the 7-11 year range), and only one of them acts his age (and, purportedly, had always acted like an old man). The rest have boundless energy, keep up with the younger dogs without any issue, and are still involved in showing and/or performance events.

HOWEVER I have noticed that some Collies grey very young - especially sables. I know a sable who is only 7 and has a fully white face - doesn't act a day over 3, but she definitely looks like a veteran.

Since I primarily interact with the show dog world, the veterans I see are in quite nice coat (well maintained, well groomed, and the dogs are kept intact), but I know what you mean. A lot of Smooth dogs especially seem to get kind of bulky, or maybe you just can't tell on the Roughs. But even the veteran Smooth that shows around here (a petite bitch) is energetic, moves easily, and I wouldn't have been able to tell she was a veteran unless I had been told.

So I guess I don't really know? I know what you're talking about from online photos, but that kind of ageing is something I haven't seen in-person, even from retired show dogs or well-bred pet dogs. 🤷‍♂️ But, again, I don't have any experience with Smooths, and I think all Smooth dogs look a little awkward because they tend to be bulky and the coat patterning is a lot more obvious on a Smooth which is interesting aesthetically.

Anyway I'm kind of waffling and don't have an answer, but I hope this kind of helps!

An interesting experience for sure... I had 8 and 9 year olds following me and I felt bad blocking them, but I also can't check every single followers profile to see how old they are... I may post more on the future but I'm too lazy and people there are rude requesting stuff, they want everything "right now" and they never say please or "could you draw X thing?", just "now you have to draw me this and use my comment to post."

Also someone reposted my art and got 280k views🤷‍♂️ of course I wasn't mad at them, they credited me and pinned my comment, I was actually flattered that they translated my art to repost! but MY posts never get that amount of attention... and I got a bit upset I'll admit

Long post warning lol!!! Just putting my thoughts about unique / ryder / trans issues in glee out there :0

Okay so time for me to ask why does everyone hate ryder so bad or is that just on glee twt . Cause I really don’t understand LOL ? Like yeah he was an asshole to unique but do y’all not understand that twitter and real life aren’t the same thing ?? And in terms of trans issues, So much changes year by year… you can see it even from season 3 to season 6 of the show with how unique is treated versus beiste.

Not everyone understands right away but he Did come around didn’t he? Honestly as a trans person the more upsetting thing to me is how throughout the entire show they continue to refer to her as a cross-dresser (or cross-dressing Mercedes……..) like? Oh or kitty making that comment about how “there’s nothing scarier than a girl with a penis” lol… the way unique was treated in general was Horrific marley was literally the only person who was actively trying to support her and help her :/ don’t get me started on the end of twerk lmfao can I tell you how triggering it is to me for them to make a “joke” out of trans people being unable to use the bathroom or being harassed / abused in bathrooms? To make her use a fucking porta potty because….. because mr schue wants to defend the kids’ right to twerk?????!!?????? Help….

Unique’s whole character is really the only issue I have with glee being “problematic” because like… I mean it’s satire that was kinda the point of the show? But the writers don’t understand that making gay jokes is Not the same as … blatant transphobia? Even with beiste they give sue those “spare us the details of the literal sausage making” and “newly boobless” lines ?? Like hey yeah actually I know sue’s whole purpose in the show is being a dick but god.

Unique is deadnamed and misgendered throughout a big portion of the show and I really wish they would’ve resolved it with kurt especially? Like they just keep calling unique an “alter ego” when she says like it’s not just a stage name it’s who I am and kurt and mercedes are like ah yes He . Which like again I’m not saying that to make it seem like they’re transphobic or anything I just think if they were gonna tackle that issue on the show they should’ve like made it an actual educational moment and not just “haha funny trans person butt of the joke again.”

I do think they handled beiste’s transition pretty well other than the fact that it was just like surgery is just in and out super quick recovery back to work LOL but the whole last season was super rushed so I get it and I think his coming out and specifically how Sam handled it were REALLY good!! Like genuinely I’m a trans guy and I was rewatching the episode where he comes out to Sue and Sam last night and I was like Wow that’s almost word for word how I came out?! And I genuinely really love the way Sam is about it like him wanting to make sure he says the right things and wanting to have guy talk and making that big list of pronouns to ask about when he’d probably never even heard of neos before that…. 🥺🥺🥺

But anyways my point in saying all this is that I don’t quite get why everyone chooses to only hate ryder when pretty much everyone on the show made transphobic comments at one point or another 🤷‍♂️ I think saying “hey I don’t really understand but I support you and I’ll do my best to learn” is actually a very good and honest response. People are afraid of what they don’t understand and things that are new to them Especially 15 year old boys lol??? I don’t think it’s fair to write off someone’s whole character because of one “problematic” thing like… I’m sure most of y’all cis people who go so hard against him were not always so understanding And like . writing update for may!

i used to keep these short but actually it’s my house so i’m just going to make this as long as i want them to be 🤷‍♂️ the tl;dr though is that i took a break from blood moon because i was experiencing Doubts and instead i primarily wrote many thousands of words of explicit shadowgast for a new oneshot, because it be like that.

in may i wrote about 14.5k words total, which is my highest word count since my city “reopened” in march and i returned to the office, etc. i’m happy about that but it’s probably not sustainable

i updated my writing tracker to include days of the week, and it’s been funny to see the gradient that goes perfectly from sundays (4405 words total) down to saturdays (377 words total). i’ve been thinking about changing the tracker to be weekly instead of daily, but now i want to keep it daily for at least another month

my goal for june is to finish blood moon, actually. a real, genuine, “complete” draft for me to stare at

anyway, i just spent a good three weeks away from this fic so that i could peacefully wallow. i don’t have answers yet but i did start working on it again this past week so we’ll see where i end up
