Alright pookies, this is the final batch of grandma Ozz and her gifts. Once again, I wish you all happy holidays - regardless of what you celebrate - and may we remain good friends in the coming years. Thank you for all the lovely messages and wishes! Lastly, don't fret: grandma Ozz will be back again someday.
P.S.: Some of you have asked what's inside the bag. It shall remain a mystery.

Dear 🎸 anon, not only will I offer you a hug, but I'll play you like you've never been played before. I took down my old accessories from the attic, and I'm ready to rock and roll.

Dear @bee-unknown, thank you for gracing us with her Majesty's presence. Do allow me to offer you a gift in return: a royal cape for her royal cat-Highness. I suspect she is equally unhappy with my tomfoolery.

Dear 🐛 anon, I...Thank you. Though I would prefer if your friend fed on something other than my wrinkled forehead. Here, have a crisp apple.
Tumblr media
Dear anon, do not lose hope. Here's a pair of lucky underwear that shall grant you irresistible charm. When in doubt, remind yourself of all the yandere and monster OCs who are head over heels for you. Go out and break hearts, kiddo.

Dear 🐦‍🔥 anon, welcome to the family! Allow me to offer you some sunscreen as I suspect the constant burning isn't the best for your skin. It's vegan and cruelty-free, PETA certified.

Dear anon, I thank you for the lovely wishes. Might you perchance be Muslim? Grandma happened to have a fair amount of classmates who'd return from Ramadan with a platter of baklava for the whole class. Here's a silver tray. You know what to do. I'll be waiting.
Tumblr media
Dear @momma-beany, I- Oh my. I thank you for the generous offer, though...hmmm. Perhaps I can indulge a little, I suppose. I could use a little help. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Tumblr media
Dear anon, I thank you for the mysterious gift. In return I offer you the spirit of Christmas itself. Handle it with care.
Tumblr media
Dear @squishsquishdish, @theressaicon and anons, your wishes have been dutifully noted. Until the time comes, I offer you all a soft, little reminder of the rascals you've fallen in love with.

Dear anon, here's the key to the locker rooms of Yandere School. They'll take care of it. It's all I'm going to say.
Tumblr media
Dear 🧇 anon, thank you for the thoughtful gift. I'm afraid I've taken a bite already, though I shall now place it as requested.
Tumblr media
Dear anon, here's some raw potatoes to quench your desires. Grandma is sadly too old for cheeky shenanigans.

The thing that irritates me the most about Helluva Boss is the adamant need to waste any potential for depth in every character. The thing that stops me from abandoning this train wreck of a show and feeling total apathy for it is its wasted potential.
TOO MUCH FUCKING WASTED POTENTIAL.
And obviously, the elephant in the room, aka the blatant misogyny and double standards because viv is writing yaoi so the fans could consume the emotional uwu moments and porn. SO MUCH PORN DAMN IT.
And the thing that eats away at me is the characters such as stolas and stella had such an easy chance to be morphed into something so deep that the show could be a soap opera about their drama alone.
In my humble opinion, the Goetia demons shouldn't have been in this show at all. They belong in a show like Hazbin that's showcasing the upper echelon of hell. This should've been about IMP, but I'm not ripping that one bandaid off because the wound under it is a biohazard. Anyway, I wanted to offer a rewrite for the 😍 lovely poor uwu baby Stolas and his DEMON, BITCH OF A WIFE, Stella. (Yeah, the sarcasm's strong with this one)
First of all I love how her name means star 🌟. It ties in together nicely with the whole astrology aesthetic of the family. We're gonna ignore the born-to-be-a-bitch personality the show presented her as having and focus on what caused her issues.
First of all, she probably knew from a young age that she was going to be wed off into an arranged marriage (just like stolas), and she knew she had the responsibility of birthing an heir. That's going to affect how she views love and marriage in general. She'd see it as a transaction, that she can offer an heir and her body, and receive what she wants. I have no problem with her being a spoiled brat, a mean girl. In fact, take it up a notch. She can be both of that! She was probably given every materialistic thing she wanted since the day she was born other than love and affection. That probably made her narcissistic and selfish, with the "I get everything that I want and you can't stop me" attitude.
She's a party girl, and we stand for that. She seems to be very extroverted and outgoing, and that clashes with stolas' more subdued and introverted personality.
I see her as being EXTREMELY paranoid about appealing to the high society that she's a part of and keeping herself at the top of the food chain amongst other aristocrats, unlike stolas who only does it to keep face or avoid getting too much attention, she wants to be noticed ans seen. Her gossipy, high society friends also reinforce the fact that she never had normal friends who cared about her, and she never grew out of her mean girl phase.
I see her as someone with so much passion in her heart, and sadly, we had to see all that turned into rage. She has trouble controlling her temper and the constant rage that boils inside her, and she explodes and lashes out on people, especially stolas.
I see her going into a marriage with stolas with the same "I'll get what I want" attitude. He has power, money, and legions to his name, and he isn't necessarily bad looking. So stella is like, "Eh, might as well..."
He isn't her dream partner, but she goes into the marriage thinking she can mould him into her dream man. Or thinking he's meek enough to leave her on her own, or she could even manipulate him to do as she pleases. None of those go as planned, though.
.
.
.
I can lowky see her dragging him around as she shops and him just wanting to die inside, lol
Oh my, Anon, this quite a lot of words, but I actually really love your rewrite, I can see Stella actually watching Mean Girls while Stolas dies inside and just stares at the infinite lmao
But sadly, this is a Viv show, and you know that women in these kinds of shows aren't allowed to have any nuance beyond a one-note use or personality trait, unless they're stepping stools for the male cast, which in that case, they're allowed to have a bit more of depth, but not too much.
And yeah, actually, now that you mention it, the Goetia demons shouldn't have been in Helluva, if anything, they should've been shown on Hazbin, like you said, because we are following along a protagonist that was born in royalty (Charlie) and it would make a lot of sense to see the Goetia demons there, since it would be a royal meetup or something like that.
And lastly, about the porn... I can corroborate this since a lot of the designs made by Viv or by her team look... conventionally attractive, so conventional that's artificial and try hard at times, and also, pretty safe but sometimes pushing the limits a bit to pander to gay people (Vortex, Asmodeus and Satan, to name a few muscular characters that are quite popular, but also Moxxie, Chaz and Striker, also popular in the gay side of the fandom) but it always boils down to the same purpose: to get people horny, and this is exemplified so painfully clear when Loona shook her ass towards the camera in one of the episodes, turning out to be shameless furry bait, and when I say that these shows are gooning and softcore porn shows, it's because of deliberate shit like this.
But alas, thanks for your input, Anon, it's greatly appreciated and it's quite the palette cleanser to see someone competent pick up Viv's mess and restructure it into something actually compelling and nuanced.

Fanfiction anon again. Do you think I portrayed the dissociation aspect well enough? I don't have a lot of experience with writing in general, let alone things like that and I don't experience it myself very often so I'm not sure if I did it correctly? Does it show properly in your opinion?
I don’t have a dissociative disorder either, and it’s been awhile since I’ve heavily dissociated in that matter (used to in the past, big chunks of clear memories missing from my 20 year life span although I have a general idea of some events I suppose (and regained some memories at a later time)), but I could tell that you were describing dissociation pretty much immediately.
I’ve tried looking around for things to help writing characters with dissociative disorders (and trauma, as these things can tend to go hand and hand), and I’ve found a few things that could possibly help you if you want. I don’t know how accurate they actually are, but it’s a start:
How to Write a Character with a Dissociative Disorder when You Have a Dissociative Disorder
How to Depict Stress & Trauma by Narrating Dissociation
This Tumblr post, Writing Dissociative Characters.
How Can I Write About It if I Wasn’t There? 8 Tips for Writing About Dissociation.
Tips & suggestions in this Reddit thread. This one too.

I feel like I'm going crazy and I just need to tell someone (even if it's only through anon) because all I can think about from the finale is Astrid's warning to Callum
"When the hour turns black, one with dark eyes will save us all and choose his own end"
Callum assumed the prophecy is talking about him, but there's more than one person who fulfilled the prophecy...because you know who else's eyes are black in the finale?
The resurrected spirit of Avizandum
He's the one who turns on Aaravos, drags him into the sky and delivers the killing blow that triggered a supernova. His actions destroyed the last of his generation of archdragons. In a roundabout way, he chose his own end
Idk just something that's been on my mind for the past couple days
receiving awesome asks that i never respond to is like a talent of mine but no no i'm gonna do it this time you are so right you little genius you
i love it when tdp can lead you to expect something so straightforward, and then divert those expectations with it still making so much sense

Y'know, I really think Stan wasted Inazuma. Like, my interest in Jei dropped off a cliff in general after a certain point, but I especially hate that Inazuma was sacrificed on the altar of Jei's repeating narrative. I didn't like Jei possessing Inazuma in general, but that said I think her going on to live past his control would have been way more interesting than her just dying anyway.
Dude, so sorry for answering so late. But as you can probably tell, I just got the volume you are talking about for Christmas and read it on speedrun. Hope my reactions can tell you something
Umm, spoilers???? Or something.
...
FOR EVERYTHING SACRED IN THE WORLD!!! WHA- WHY?! I'M - - MMMMM!??
Dear anon, I couldn't agree more with you!! I have to admit, since Grasscutter Jei's contributions to the story of Usagi were pretty boring. Kind of a reminder that he was still there, but didn't really more than that.
He redeemed himself with his origin I guess, tho, at what cost? Inazuma. And was it worth it? I surely don't know...
When the idea of Jei possessing Inazuma was introduced I really had great expectations. Mainly because I thought Inazuma would put up a fight. I mean, it was demonstrated that her will was strong enough to overcame Jei a couple of times and recover her conscience.
What was done to her was just plainly unfair. Specially since she had a really wonderful and interesting backstory and yet, we barely have stories with her being more relevant as a character of her own. Not as the objective to pursue or a vessel puppet.
I don't know if Sakai just wasn't interested in that arc anymore or if he wasn't sure of how to end the story without killing Jei?? Because I'm guessing that's the reason he would mistreat Inazuma this way, I can't picture another "razonable" reason. To save Jei's character lineup and keep using him in the future.
At this point I can't even be mad. Just really disappointed. I wouldn't even have minded if she ended up the same way she did, but at least give me something more to it, damn. Because, as I said, it feels unfair; not in a sense of helplessness like in the story of Noodles, where I can feel Kitsune and Usagi's efforts get overpowered by their own limitations. It's just unfair because the story gave us a cue that could've indicated Jei's defeat, and beyond that, Inazuma deserved a better end, as the fighter we know she was.
But yeah, guess we got a replacement with another character pretty similar in tone —that Sakura girl— and that's all.
Look how they massacred my girl Q-Q

Not the same anon but i don't really think people should read into his "statement" or whatever too deeply, if i recall he just expressed his opinion on when he was asked what Ghost and Soap's ideal date would be like hence his reply. Also fr Ghost being married would make no sense and everything his character stands for both in OG and reboot so idk where this is coming from lol it's simply not what CoD is about at the end of the day and i don't think his opinion has any hidden meaning behind it, just pretty straight forward is all anyways sorry to bring this into your ask Cero, it's prolly not what you are on about lol
no it is mostly what I meant too! I just took a random example with saying ghost being married, which was effectively """contradictory""" to Samuel's statement (which is purposefully vague) and my own headcanon.
but like my point on the subject is that people should feel free to headcanon whatever they want whether it aligns with canon or not. eat what you like and don't shit in other people's plates even if it seems out of character or whatever. they're pixels in a screen. Create things that bring you joy. the end

I guess the thing that makes me not so fond of Jon's addiction allegory is that it's only coherent to a certain extent? Like I think people sometimes forget that he's actively violating these people
anon, through no fault of your own you have accidentally hit upon my sleeper agent trigger phrase. I have layers of answers to this.
so first off, yeah, it's not a 1:1 direct metaphor, it's a soupy dream logic fantasy plot device with flavors of a lot of different things. there's quite a lot of addiction in there, there's some abuse of power, there's some cyclical nature of trauma, there's a dash of disability, there's a few notes of gendered violence, there's a good bit of just. violence violence and being kind of a motherfucker because goddammit it feels good to be an active agent about something in your life, even if it's just choosing to be a worse version of yourself than you strictly need to be. a lot of tma's worldbuilding is very allegorical, but apart from aspects of individual statements nothing really matches up quite 1:1 with a real world counterpart, and if more things did then it probably wouldn't be a fantasy show anymore.
secondly. okay to contextualize this answer a little bit I have a kind of hypothetical video essay project about vampirism and addiction that I like to spend a few hours thinking about every so often but am almost certainly never going to make because the full research burden required is a lot higher than I actually have the time to properly do. but because of that I've spent a lot of time sorting through why framing vampires as addicts really works for me in a way that it doesn't seem to for everyone, and I think a lot of my thoughts on that also apply to jon. there's going to be a bit of a detour here before we get back to talking about tma, but we'll get there, I prommy.
I've seen a lot of people take issue with various paranormal addiction allegories because, a lot of the time, the act that is meant to metaphorically represent the act of use itself is something that is directly and inherently harmful to others, e.g. drinking human blood, handing over power to your hedonistic Evil alter ego, holding the cursed amulet and going crazy going stupid, slurping trauma out of the head of some guy you ran into on a boat to norway, etc., and yeah, I do get that. substance use is not inherently harmful like that to anyone except sometimes the user themself, and addicts are not inherently fucked up and destructive people; those are dangerous stereotypes that often lead to the demonizing of a whole group of sick people.
here's the thing for me, though: those are definitely truths I want explored and represented when it comes to portrayals of non-allegorical actual addicts, but fantasy fiction isn't for showing the world as it is, it's for showing a subjective fun house mirror version of reality where certain aspects are minimized and magnified depending on how it feels to live through it. and yes, absolutely in real life drug use is not an inherently evil act and it does not make you an inherently evil person, but... doesn't it kind of feel like that? sort of? absolutely no one is living their best life nor on their best behavior while experiencing any kind of major mental illness episode, and when it comes to addiction you've got a very clear tangible symbol of when The Episode is happening that it feels like you have much more control over than when it comes to other illnesses. it's also a thing where people are a lot more likely to be openly angry and distrustful of you if they find out it's happening. so you mix together the ideas of "I know I get worse as a result of doing this one specific thing" + "I act less like myself when I'm using, it rearranges my priorities and I care less about hurting people because that's what happens when you're experiencing The Horrors" + "society at large/people directly around me are pretty quick to say that doing this is evil," and you get the subjective emotional result of "I hurt people by using and it makes me monstrous." I tend to respond to those kinds of paranormal allegories like they're just cutting out the middle man of those subjective fears. "using makes me monstrous" -> "using is monstrous."
anyway. jon archivist.
don't get me wrong, I totally understand if this aspect of metaphor doesn't gel for some people and they only like taking it exactly as far as the text explicitly makes them, but I really get a lot out of reading jon's connection to the fears as addiction precisely because he does genuinely awful things to people as a result of it. he's a person in a very bad physical and mental place with little to no support who is constantly being told by both allies and enemies that he's already a monster just by being alive, and he copes with that by secretly falling further and further into an compulsive act of consumption that skews his priorities and makes him care less about hurting people because at least sometimes getting to be the cause of pain makes him feel a little bit less powerless when he has to be the subject of pain the rest of the time. then he's found out and is made to stop, and he has to grapple not just with the physical toll of withdrawal but with knowing there is a not insignificant part of him that will excuse any act of malice if he knows he'll feel better afterwards.
the end of tma is very explicit in the fact that the rules of its world are shaped by the subjective worst fears of those who live in it, it's "an exercise in unreliably reality" as jonny sims put it once, and I think that principle extends backwards in some ways to apply to the rest of the show. I don't think the fact that there are only entities of fear and not hope or love is meant to be a full commentary on the total nature of the real world, it's a reflection of what fear and suffering can make the world feel like. eric and melanie both go to really harsh extremes to extricate themselves from the fears and live peaceful lives, and in both cases something happens that foils their plans (getting murdered + the apocalypse, respectively), but I don't think the intended message is to say that is definitively how real life works, they are metaphors for the limits of individual agency in larger systems and represent two types of worst-case-scenarios. similarly, I don't think reading jon as an addict implies that addiction inherently involves violence or that the reactions of those around him were completely unjustified, it's just a subjective exploration of the kinds of fears that can come with addiction dialed up to 100.

this is a sincere good faith question from a kodocon, since i saw you talking about it on here (and please feel free to not answer if you feel uncomfortable with it obviously). what’s wrong with the term fictopedophile? i thought that pedophilia was just another paraphilia and didn’t equal child abuse… is it a matter of wrongly assuming attraction in kodocons or something else??? i genuinely thought it was a good term because it implied attraction to fictional children so im really curious as to why it’s problematic
It doesn't exist.
The problem is that it doesn't exist and that people love pathologising everything and making shit up.
You CANNOT be a fictopedophile because there are no real kids in fiction so you are not a real pedo either. It's insulting to even try and equate fictional characters with real kids and on top of that paraphilias aren't even that common. Yeah I know that a lot of people on here seem to have them, with all due respect I doubt they do but they can keep on believing this for all I care since it doesn't hurt anyone, but the fact remains that compared to the global population they are a very low percentage. Also, saying that everyone who enjoys loli/shota/kodo content has a paraphilia (that doesn't exist, fictiopedophilia doesn't exist) is BONKERS because not only it operates under the incorrect assumption that all of them actually feel attraction towards the characters, but it's also trying to -not very subtly- throw a lot of people under the "pedo" bus. They just slapped the word "ficto" in front to try and pathologise/sound like they weren't actually calling us pedos and whilst is true that pedophilia doesn't immediately equate to child abuse it is a VERY serious accusation and an EXTREMELY delicate matter and to accuse a whole bunch of people of being a "light fictional version" of it is simply a masked anti's rhetoric.
So no, it's not a good term because it doesn't exist, you cannot be a fictopedophile in the same way you cannot be a fictocannibal. You enjoying those things in fiction doesn't make you a ficto anything and believing that is actually conceding ground to antis and their crazy rethoric.
Because first they will throw around the word fictopedophile -> people will use it and call themselves that -> they will subsequently remove the "ficto" in front and say that people are already admitting to being pedos so they were right all along.
Do not fall for this. If you do not hunger for real human flesh you are not a cannibal. If you do not find real kids attractive you are not a pedophile and since fiction isn't reality on a 1:1 scale you are not and cannot be a fictional one either.

to say people withholding their vote in America aren't 'pragmatic' enough is so dismissive. as a fellow European like idk what I would've done either if I was an American.
Otherwise I would be sorry to be dismissive but in this situation I think it is completely acceptable, if not necessary, to vote for the lesser evil. Voting is not about your inner true values, it is about society, and especially in the American setting where you essentially have only two options, you need to be able to make hard decisions. If you're seriously indicating that on the whole Harris is bad as Trump, you need to take a cold hard look at the reality of the matters at hand. Harris is not ideal, and it hurts to vote for her especially when you think about Gaza, but Trump is a fascist and his supporters in the Republican party are dangerous to democracy and human rights. This is not a situation where you get to opt out. Not voting is a vote for Trump.

in lieu of having posted any writing/headcanons/asks in the past few days because i have been *so* busy and unable to do anything fandom-related which is terrible and evil, i have a poll out of morbid curiosity and self-indulgence. i've been meaning to ramble here about how i feel about DC's lack fo Deaf representation and which Batfam members i would personally make Deaf, but i am mildly curious about the larger opinion and now i will subject you all to the question, i would love to hear thoughts/opinions/headcanons on any specific choices. (would love d/Deaf/HoH opinions esp but i'm mostly expecting this to reach the hearing crowd, so opinions from hearing ppl are ones i'm very curious about. if you've never given it thought before you are going to now or else /lh)
#necrotic nuisance#<- new tag for nonserious shit like this#batfamily#batclan#deafculture#i think not including bruce in this poll bc i ran out of options is *so* fucking funny so i'm keeping it#bc realistically i could bump off more tertiary characters like harper or jpv to include him#but i won't.#hearing people are seriously invited to reblog and share opinions or headcanons i'm so genuine#just like. behave about it.#i have personal headcanons but i will save sharing them until the poll is finished#as not to skew results#i also have a hunch on who will lead. based on popular headcanons i see#but i will also not share that as to not skew it#i'm using the Deaf identity as an umbrella term that can include Hard of Hearing as well btw#so if your headcanon is more HoH leaning it is counted#i do believe this is something most fans haven't rlly thought about#but i *really* want to write fics with Deaf rep and i have been waffling on who to make Deaf#so. this poll is also a field test of who you would like to see me (a Deaf bitch) write as Deaf.#and i totally pinky promise not to project super duper hard on them. (i'm so lying)#i will get back to writing and the ask games i promse!#tomorrow i have the day off after 4 bc someone else is watching the baby so ic can just chill#also *please please* if you have disabled headcanons for any batfam (or DC in general) character#send them to me. i want to see them. i would love to talk about them with you.#as an anon ask as a message as a reblog idc#gimme.#this isn't my usual content but shhh lemme be self indulgent.#both bc i'm curious and bc i wanna write Deaf shit so. we take a break from my usual nonsense for this.#i'll post writing tomorrow to make up for it#also i have to remind myself this is my blog i can do what i want with and not just be a content machine. yk

RORY I NEED OPINIONS (please)
Something popped up on my page and it was about Ghost.
The person who posted proceeded to say how they've had enough of the mischaracterization of him. And other people in the comments have said the same. How whenever they see Ghost written as a cold mean guy, they think, "oh you've never read the comics or played the games."
Now, I'm not here to bash anyone. I just wanna know what you think of people who write OOC {insert character}? Or what do you think about it in general?
Okay, this is one of the things that bothers me the most about the mainstreaming of fandom and fanfiction.
The whole point of fanfiction, is to write the characters however you want to write them. Fanfiction does not have to stick to how characters are presented in fandom. Some might choose to, others might not. Some might choose to in certain fics, and then not to in others. OOC exists as a term for a reason. It's okay. You can write/draw/headcanon/whatever any character however you want because that's your interpretation, or because it's how you want the character to be in whatever situation you're putting them in.
I know I said I was done talking about this, but this circles back around to the whole dark fic issue. "X character wouldn't do this" according to who? The fandom police? That's the whole point. The whole point of fandom and fanfiction is to present the characters however you want. That's always been its purpose. Fix it fics, OOC, crack ficks, dark fics, AUs exist for a reason. Not every character has to act exactly as they do in canon. If you want that, then just watch/read/play the canon media and stay out of the fanfiction side of fandom.
People that get all up in arms about FANFICTION not sticking to canon events and portrayals are ruining fandom. They are. People wonder why creators and fans are leaving fandom, it's because it's not fun anymore. You write a character how you want to write them and there's 50 people complaining in the comments about how "that's not how they are in canon." Yeah? And? That's the point. It's like whole ship thing with people being mad about fans shipping characters that aren't together in canon. News flash, people have been doing that for ages. Since the dawn of fanfiction. People ship characters that aren't even in the same movie or show or game. You gonna get mad about a crossover fic because it's "not canon?"
If you can't accept that FANDOM and FANFICTION aren't always canon compliant then you need to not be in these spaces. Leave us alone and stick to just watching the show/movie or reading the book or playing the game, whatever. You're ruining fandom spaces for everyone. Most of us creators have been in these spaces for a lot longer than the people ruining them. I've been involved in fandoms for 18 years now. Far longer than I should have been, and honestly, if I didn't love writing fanfiction and use it as an outlet for myself so I don't go crazy, I probably would have left too.
These pearl clutchers and mainstream people flooding into fandom that refuse to learn the "rules" and accept how things have been for literal decades are ruining fandom for the rest of us and killing people's passions for writing and creating. Us creators don't have to share. We do it because we want to and because we enjoy seeing others reactions and the interaction that comes from it. We are all very capable of just writing or drawing and keeping them to ourselves. Soon there won't be such a thing as fandom because all the joy will have been sucked out of it. Creators are already leaving in droves because interaction is down to nothing. Add on people getting mad about things that are normal in fandom and soon there won't be anything left. People will be complaining about there being no fandoms and no fanfiction and fanart and video edits and gifs, even though we've been screaming why from the high heavens for years.

yeah man. reminder that an aspec person doing something can never be invalidating to aspecs in general. a person's individual actions are not reflective on the entire community and our job is to remember that we can all do whatever the fuck we want forever ‼️ the people who are leveraging us against each other are NOT our friends and should not be listened to. in fact i advocate putting them in the oubliette

I AM INVITED TO TEASE!! insert excited cat wiggle
so here's a fun thing to consider:
hhau has a happy ending, right? the rescue. that is their happy ending. but. it isn't really an ending, is it? because things don't end. even when scar and grian are plucked from that horrible place and placed somewhere safer, they're still riddled with trauma and things that stay and stick and linger.
one of those things they have to deal with is the knowledge that they've changed. they had to, to survive.
but the hermits don't have all the context for these changes. they see grian flinching and hiding, seemingly voluntarily grounded, easily scared. they see scar, growling and protective, wings tattered, all the sharp vex edges waiting within easy reach in case he'd need them.
neither of them are the giggly, pesky hermits the others have grown to know and love.
neither of them are the bright, talented, inspired, creative builders the others have originally invited to come join them on hermitcraft.
and it's exhausting, to constantly be aware of how the others expect them to be someone they're not. how displaced they feel. how hard it is, to look at what's meant to be their home and their family, and feel like they no longer know how to belong.
amidst this all, the hermits are searching for the signs of the people they used to know, looking for ways to help them be themselves again, instead of acknowledging that maybe this is who grian and scar are now.
have this little rp snippet as a treat:
"I know they mean well..." Scar whines into Grian's chest this time, and though there's no cozy shawl to bury himself in, it's just as comforting. "but they don't know everything, and... and I know that's mostly on us, but god it's just... it's so much sometimes, Grian."
It's not exactly pleasant to recall those memories. To try to explain just how horrific it was to their old friends. To look them in the eyes and admit that they're different now because they had to be. (And how they still hope to be loved despite it all.)

I don’t mind taylor swift (although my mom’s convinced she’s a satanic worshiper, well according to her all the secular musicians/actors are so at least she’s consistent)
I actually liked some of the songs on TTPD but I wasn’t comfortable with the religious imagery she uses, at times it felt mocking
LOL, consistency is all I ask!
What a person is comfortable with is what they're comfortable with, and I'm certainly not advocating FOR Christians to listen to Taylor Swift--I think that's a matter of individual conviction. I'm not much of a TSwift listener for a variety of reasons not limited to her terrible worldview and frequent strong language. Nor do I think Christians should be naive when it comes to the secular, which hates God and His people.
That said, I want to invite everyone into my world of music. When I was a teenager, I created a playlist called Sense of the Divine, a phrase which I borrowed from a talk given by Vic Mignogna, but which refers to a concept I was raised from infancy to hold close: Humans are made to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, and every human knows this.
My Sense of the Divine playlist included artists such as OneRepublic, Tonight Alive, Bastille, Bear's Den, and Panic! At The Disco, with lyrics such as:
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
(This is one of my favorite lines of all time.)
But eventually, I stopped adding to that playlist, because 80% of all music I now listen to contains some kind of religious language, imagery, allusions, illustrations, allegories, etc. Any time I am listening to music, I am thinking on spiritual realities: how are God and man conceptualized correctly and incorrectly in this song and by the artist? How have I encountered those misconceptions in my own life? My own heart? Where do they come from? How do they affect us? How can they be defeated? Oftentimes, I'm asking, "How can I recontextualize this line in a way that is theologically correct?"; "How does this correspond with the themes of X Story?"; "How does this correspond with the themes in my WIP?"
If this sounds tedious to you, it's just second nature to me, like breathing. From childhood, my parents always asked us spiritual & worldview questions after any secular movie we watched or book we read, and yes, many songs we heard. I guess I've always assumed all Christians engage with media this way out of necessity, the only other option being to disengage with all media not written or distributed by Angel Studios.
Am I saying all Christians are equipped to regularly take in theologically questionable or downright incorrect content? No, certainly not. The discernment we receive from Scripture is a prerequisite, and I do draw the line for myself in some instances. But I feel it would be a safe bet that what most Christians miss in overtly religious poesy, they make up for tenfold in the covert philosophical assumptions (materialism, existentialism, nihilism, gnosticism, mysticism, scientism, etc.) found everywhere else, and which are arguably much more damaging to our relationship with God.
