*slides across a piano speaking into a corded microphone* if Capcom weren't such cowards, we'd get a dramatic post-7-year-gap reunion between Phoenix and Iris where, after Iris tells him that she thought the reason he hadn't come to see her in so long was because he wanted her out of his life, Phoenix tells her no and admits that the real reason was because he was ashamed of the person he had become (for all the lying and the scheming and the forgery, you get it), and he didn't want her to see him like that, and Iris looks at him and all the people around him and how he's looked after them and Trucy, and to an extent Pearly, after all this time, in spite of everything, and she touches his face and says that that was silly of him because she has always known that he is good and kind and strong and that he is, and has always been, the person she thought he was, and do you get it!!! do you get it!!!! thank you *I get off the piano and my legs get tangled in the cord and I fall over and cry*

oh yeah dude, i'm totally all about narumitsu, don't even doubt it. and though i like almost all of the main and recurring cast, miles will forever be my favorite because of the road he traveled over the series. and i especially love seeing him interact with other characters. when he started he only had a mentor who hated him and a sister who was as broken as him (though not in all the same ways) but look at him now, surrounded by friends and family who all care about him...
... and i'm kinda annoyed that aai characters are largely ignored, even in official art, because they are important to his story damn it. i sometimes think about miles and mia too. when she was alive she only knew the demon prosecutor miles, but she also saw him as a ghost, saw him change and grow and i can't stop felling that, even though she wasn't close to him at all, in the end she was proud of who he has become.
ohhh I ADORE Miles’ character arc, it’s probably one of my favourite character arcs of all time... and, yeah, I really would love to hear about the aai characters again, even just in passing... the only problem I can see is that if aai2-exclusive characters are mentioned/shown in a game capcom intends on localizing, I don’t know what they’d do with their names? because there might be issues with taking the English names that the fan translation came up with, and I don’t know if I can accept names other than Justine Courtney, Sebastian Debeste, Raymond Shields, etc. at this point.
but it’s like the end of aai2 was all “everything will be okay because I have these strong bonds with these companions I made!” and then they’re never mentioned again. thanks capcom.
And, yes, I love the idea of more interactions between Miles and Mia... especially post-DL-6 resolution as that case was pretty impactful for Mia as well, and it would be cool if they could, you know, talk about it.
But also Mia being so, so disappointed in Phoenix’s terrible taste in men pre-Miles character development, (and his terrible taste in women as well, pre-revelation that Dahlia was mostly Iris,) because her apprentice, the one inheriting her legacy as a defense attorney, is dating the guy who called her a bimbo in the middle of court? really, Phoenix?? but she comes around after Miles becomes a better person ofc.

A list of localized Ace Attorney canonical Japanese American characters:
Phoenix Wright himself! With Dai Gyakuten Saiban coming out in localizations, Phoenix now explicitly has a Japanese ancestor
The Fey family (Misty, Morgan, Mia, Maya, Pearl, Dahlia, Iris): in the aa6, it’s mentioned that the Kurain channeling technique came from Khura’in through Japan before coming to the US, plus the village of which their family is the head has very strong Japanese cultural influences
Victor Kudo, that one old man witness in 3-3: has a Japanese last name, talks about ‘the old country’ and doing kimono embroidery there
The Kitaki family: has a Japanese last name, keeps a lot of the Japanese aesthetic (clothes, house, etc.)
Byrne and Kay Faraday: the Yatagarasu is a Japanese name
The Tenmas: have a Japanese last name, are an old family in a Japanese town
Simon (and Aura) Blackquill, and Metis (and Athena) Cykes: really into Japanese culture but as insiders rather than outsiders
All the Toneidos: I’m not sure if the ‘they have a Japanese name’ thing works here given that they’re all japonicized English words (except for Taifu) but they do run a rakugo theater so I'm counting them

Der Tod
Pros
-is there for you when you need him (unlike Elisabeth)
-wants to comfort you (unlike Franz Joseph)
-leaves when you tell him to go
-shows up out of nowhere during your worst moments to offer help
Cons
-creepy, possessive, doesn't take no for an answer
-is a petty bitch if you refuse him too often
-literally death, though if you already want him that might be a plus

Ahhhh Carey really did take the 'sometimes Merle's spotty memory is him trying to remember what has been erased' and ran with it and hurt my heart terribly
(image description: a picture of a panel from the Crystal Kingdom taz graphic novel, in which Merle is saying 'Look at us! Seven brave companions! Once again charging into certain death to recover another... thing! We shall be known as..."The Fellowship of the Thing"!' And then Magnus says 'There's six of us..."

hot take but the “we need more strong platonic relationships” vs “we need queer representation” arguments are pointless
this is not a zero sum game! you can have both in fiction! we should have both in fiction
i want to see strong friendships that aren’t romantic but go beyond what is normally seen as a regular friendship. i want to see queer people fall in love with each other. i want to see ambiguous relationships, ones in grey areas, ones that can’t be easily interpreted or categorized
and guess what! i can! because these things aren’t mutually exclusive! there is more than one story in the world and more than one relationship in most of those stories
if you aren’t seeing enough of your preferred type of relationship then that’s the fault of the industry (or possibly whoever is recommending you media) for not encouraging the creation of or promoting those stories, not the people who want to see different types of relationships than you

There's so many wonderful interactions the leverage team have with each other, but I also just love the casual affection, the simple, background stuff
Like, Eliot casually chopping up vegetables in the background or dishing out food as they sit around a table, losing a bet to Hardison over some inconsequential aspect of a con and making food, how he scolds Parker for buying the wrong kind of salt
The team sitting on couches together, the way their shoulders brush when they stand together at the end of a con to gloat, those little nudges, the hugs they give after a particularly harrowing experience, slinging arms around shoulders as they walk, reaching a hand down to help someone up
Hardison keeping bottles and bottles of orange soda in Nate's fridge, the way all of them hang out around his apartment just because, keeping emergency stashes of cash there
Those fist bumps that Hardison has with Eliot and Parker, the way Parker casually bumps up against Eliot, their arguments over things like star wars and sandwiches, making up songs about car chases and fighting over donuts, Hardison threatening to kick Eliot's ass even though he wouldn't have a chance at winning in a real fight
When they pick up each other’s characteristics for their part in a con, like Eliot asking for orange soda when he’s being a nerd and Sophie speaking in a southern accent when she’s being tough, all the proud “I taught her that”, “I taught him that!”
And I could continue this post forever because there's just so much stuff, but I love how much Leverage shows that they are all truly family
