it takes years for terry pratchett's books to get consistently good. I would argue that the series doesn't really hit its stride until Feet of Clay, which means that pratchett was writing and being published for 12 years before he found his groove.

and I genuinely can't imagine that. in part because I do think that pratchett's publication calendar looks different than what's expected of writers today---he had about 2 books published per year for his entire career. he must have been writing furiously, and the publisher must have relatively quickly gotten these to press.

but also....I just can't imagine any modern-day publisher keeping an author on their list for twelve years, unless that author is a prestige get or a constant presence on the bestseller list. And what does it say about the state of publishing that you can't go on publishing someone's good-but-not-revelatory books until they figure out what story they're trying to tell?

Felt like going back to my roots and drew the Sanders Sides! I hope I finally did them justice.

I honestly have no idea what I’d be like today if I never watched this series. To me it acted as a guide on self reflection and gave me the vocabulary to talk about things like anxiety. And it did this in a fun, digestible, memorable way. I think the first video I watched upon release was “Fitting In,” and I remember the hype in the hours leading up to it. So that one will always have a special place in my heart. Also, Sanders Sides was my first fandom, and it made sure I was in a good online community. Even though I don’t think about the series as much now, it still means a lot to me.

sally headcanon time:

she has paranoia around someone from her old life finding her

shes really scared that one day, one of her old coworkers or clients will show up to radiator springs because they recognized her from a racing newspaper or interview or paparazzi pic

so she chose not to attend mcqueen's races and any events with a lot of press. after cars 1, she did get better at managing her paranoia and by cars 3, shes okay with going to mcqueen's races :]

and mcqueen will ofc do anything to make sally comfortable and feel safe. he always asks sally what he can share about her in interviews, he always asks if he can post their pictures together, and he never makes her feel bad or "irrational" for her paranoia

also she did get scared when mcqueen got found in cars 1 and all the press appeared
