Salem threw James’ jeep in park, sighing slightly as she looked through the windshield and towards the house. She was trying to make sure her parents’ cars weren't there. She hadn't expected them to be, it was a few days after Christmas in Port Angeles. They never spent the holidays here because Salem was here. She turned to look at her boyfriend, smiling at him sweetly before opening her door and climbing out.
She hadn't really been to the house since last year when she hid in her childhood bedroom until James Baker loved her but as she pushed through the threshold it greeted her with the same blanketing silence it always did. Every room felt unlived in like this house had been abandoned years ago. In a way it was true, sometimes Salem felt like she was the only thing in there with a soul. She’d cut through the silence like a man exploring the jungle’s thick with a machete so many times before that this one didn't feel much different. Except, in a way, it did. This time she had James trailing behind her as she ascended the stairs, her hand reach out for his. This time she felt more at ease with being here, she felt more at ease with a lot of aspects in her life. The girl gave James’ hand a squeeze as the reached the top floor.
Her room was at the end of the hallway and to the right, just across the hall from the bathroom and she walked past empty walls that lined the hallway until she finally reached her door. She couldn't quite place why it was that she felt so much pressure in this moment. She had just never brought Hames into this part of her life. She never really brought anyone here, the only living people that had been in her room were Ethan, Monica and Bj. It just felt like a large step for her. Like this was almost her last wall to knock down between them.
With a quiet huff she pushed her door open and released James’ hand. Her decor hadn't changed since she graduated, just like the room at Monica’s house hadn't changed. The main difference being that this room screamed ‘Salem’ in a way that her other bedroom couldn't. Despite most of her belongings being packed up and moved to Seattle the room still had the air of Salem among it. Pictures still hung on the wall in clusters and she still had Plath posters and books lied about like she had just sat it down before stepping out.
With a quiet laugh she moved to her bed, positioned against the walls and windows in the corner. “So, welcome to my own personal hell.” She hummed, offering James a smile as she flopped onto her mattress. He eyes turned to the window, glancing across to Ethan’s room where his blinds were pulled up. She pointed in the general direction. “He saw me having sex once. It was terrible.” She laughed, “That he saw me, not the sex. I mean that wasn't too great either but.” She shrugged.
