How much was Sprig at fault in Spider-Sprig?
Sprig Plantar, an anthropomorphic frog who just turned eleven (frog and human years are the same here), watched a Spiderman movie and wanted to be loved by people in the same way Peter was. So, even though he’s in hiding from the government on account of being a walking talking frog (complete with extra dexterity and a long tongue he can use to grab things), he made himself a little suit to go outside and be a vigilante with.
He impressed the neighborhood, but in doing so upset the old man who had dubbed himself protector of the neighborhood (and had just tried to write a ticket for two kids selling lemonade without a permit, the oldest of whom was eight). This old man swore vengeance upon Sprig, and when he found a robotic arm with lasers and claws became Sprig’s version of Doc Ock.
They had a big fight, endangering a lot of people and destroying a lot of property. Important to note: Sprig caused no property damage himself, but he did essentially respond to having a villain come after him with “this is awesome!! If I have a villain, just like Spiderman did, then everyone will love me like they loved Spiderman!” and proceeded to insult and provoke his enemy. However, his Doc Ock caused all the property damage, instigated the fight, and was picking a fight with a boy whose age he didn’t know (the news outlets covering Sprig’s vigilante person dubbed him as around eight years old, but no one knew for sure other than those who knew Sprig).

Idk I feel like making Maddie Nolen a traitor loyal to Ambessa does an extreme disservice not just to Maddie's character but also to the potential political message of Arcane. Had Maddie really, truly been earnest and kind and compassionate the whole time, and had she died in the battle, it would have done so much more for her, for Caitlyn, for the show. Here is a gentle character whose life and innocence would've been stripped from her because of war, because of imperialism. Here is a ray of sunshine who followed Caitlyn loyally through thick and thin, who shows Cait price of working with other oppressors.
But also: here is the bubbly character with a smile, the first to eagerly join in to a descent to fascism and martial law. Here is the "good cop", the gentle enforcer, who faithfully joins in a quest that involves gassing innocents of a city. Here is a kind soul, but also a soul who after expressing some doubts about the methods used, continues to work directly with and as the oppressors of innocents. Even the best of the enforcers is a part of the unjust oppression of Zaun.
Instead, she's written off as a spy, a mole, bad all along. Any nuance that her character could have brought is stripped away and she's killed and discarded without a second glance. The enforcers as a whole I feel could've been approached with more nuance, and she would've been a part of it. Instead, she's one-dimensional, a complete turncoat.

Not saying Papa V wasn't maybe raised Catholic, because there's lore implications in the interviews etc. that leave that as a possibility, and telling people what HC to have, but the guy in the Satanized music video is not Papa V before he became Papa. Papa singing about something doesn't necessarily mean it's him. A similar thing can be easily seen in the He Is music video where they're criticising the behaviour of sects etc.
Tender Father says so himself in the Brent Porche interview (YT Link for those without a Vimeo account here) at around 5:20. Here's a clip of the important part:
"We have a ton of songs - Satanized being one - where technically our singer, in this case Papa V Perpetua, is singing pretending to be a fictional other person.
So any time that you hear our singer, whomever I've sung in the past, singing the word "I", or a song that's in I-form, it doesn't mean that it's that character singing about himself.
In this case, same thing, Satanized is written in I-form from a perspective of a, technically like, simply put, a religious person, who confuses the feeling of being in love with being possessed by an, you know, some unearthly being from another dimension possessing his, in this case, soul and tearing it apart. Because that's how it feels."
It's also been thought, that feelings like that is the devil's work.
So, when it comes to making a video for that, it becomes a little weird if you put Papa there just singing that song. So therefore we had to essentially (chuckles) get an actor in to serve as the main character, in the I-form."
Tumblr media
Again, I'm not saying "Don't have this or that headcanon", or "He's 1000% never been catholic". I'm just pointing out basic stylistic devices such as the Lyrical I.

I got like a weird comment the other day insinuating I was going to eventually be therian because I'm transgender and in poly relationships now, and, like, I've got no actual problems with the idea or the community, but I'd appreciate it not be expected of me just because I am a queer furry. Very weird thing to say to someone enthusiastically.

you know what’s getting incredibly old? the way some “fans” expect taylor to be their perfect entertainment robot. back in the day, we would spend several months — if not years — enjoying the content we got, rather than demanding more. we’re so ridiculously lucky to be fans of an artist who tries to surprise and delight us at every turn, who gives us so much content to pour over. she doesn’t merely exist for our own consumption, she’s a human being who exists outside of us. please recognise that.

It seems like the writers were scared of the complexity that they set up in many of the relationships and themes in Arcane S1 so they tried to walk things back in various ways. Here’s some examples:
Cait is losing herself to her grief and is making questionable decisions that hurt Vi and the undercity? Do they contend with the tensions in their relationship and have Cait and Vi go through satisfying arcs and tackle the issues between them and the cities? No they tease each other a little and get to fuck so they’re def fine now.
The sister’s relationship is unrecognizable and they have both changed so much and borderline hate what the other has become? Do they have to build something new and work through all the problems… No they use Warwick to bring them together and basically “just get along” when he could have been a good catalyst to start building back.
Ekko and Jinx have been enemies for years but still harbour some feelings for each other? Are we going to see them grit their teeth and work together for the sake of Zaun and get to know each other again and build back their trust? No the AU shows “what the potential of this relationship could be” and our Ekko and Jinx get put in a dire and traumatic situation to bypass all their conflict.
They couldn’t handle the complicated ideas they set up. It would have been fun and devastating to see all of these dynamics play out. It was going to take drastic work or drastic measures for the characters to reconcile and the writers chose drastic measures because they were scared.
This thing is most of us were in it for these messy ideas and relationships and now we feel cheated.
