Tumblr media
Chapter Summary: After being scouted to be a part of a new girl group thanks to an audition, Jen worked alongside her four bandmates to form the group "Amity". Things went great at first but then after a while, Jen starts to get concerned about her position in the group while the company starts to focus on the other members and their success. She then learns the unfortunate truth about the situation she's in and makes a decision. Motivated, she continues to be persistent in achieving her dreams thanks to an audition in her area which happened to be for BigHit Entertainment.
Jen meets Taehyung and starts to build a friendship with him. For those interested in being the Bangtan Girl, they learn the Bulletproof dance and No More Dream dance. They're also hit with a homework assignment, create a verse for Bulletproof and present it to the audition. Jen hopes to impress the company with her efforts and earn the spot.
Words: 10,000+
Author's Note:  Hey! I wrote this story back in 2016 on some fanfic websites and am bringing it back as I edit the chapters. I wanted to put my perspective and imagination on what if BTS had a black girl in their group from America. This'll be a long story starting from their debut so enjoy the ride!
I have so many chapters already written. I had stopped in the story around late 2016 before the MAMA Awards. As I wrote this story over the years I wanted this character to be relatable and grow as a performer as well as go through hardships. It'll be a slow start but it will get better as the chapters go on, I hope you give it a chance.
This will mainly start with friendship. Not just the character and the love interest. I didn't want to rush things and I tried my best to add a lot of bonding and cute moments.
This is a SLOW BURN with my OC and Jungkook. The two will not become a couple until 2016.
As I planned to create this story years ago it took me months to prepare and research so I could get a good timeline. I wanted to add a lot of things like K-Con, going to school, Variety Shows, interviews, American Hustle Life, V-Lives, sasaeng fans and so on.
Please note this is fiction. Yeah it may be unrealistic for this to happen but I had a lot of fun ideas and just went for it. Also I am not a song writer so sometimes the custom lyrics may be a little silly
---
It was November 9th, 2012. Backstage at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, 14-year-old Jen sat in a chair, getting the finishing touches on her curly light brown hair, which was put into a high ponytail. She and the rest of her group named Amity were to perform at their last concert of their small tour.
Amity consisted of five members. 16 year old Hailey, who was the leader and main vocalist, 16 year old Trinity who was the lead dancer, 15 year old Layla who covered the high and dramatic notes and 17 year old Angelina who took care of the raps.
And then there's Jen.
Who was she?
Who was she in the group?
She never got the chance to showcase her talent on stage.
So was this worth it?
Back in early 2011, a rising new company named SongStress Entertainment was looking for young female talents to form another girl group. They partnered up with Disney and started to put up commercials and ads everywhere to promote auditions. When Jen heard about it from a TV commercial, she quickly went to tell her parents. After some persuading, and chores around the house, they took her to the audition in New York that was set in March. No matter what the challenges were, she remained persistent and her family supported her because of her passion for singing and dancing.
She wanted to perform ever since she was ten years old. Listening to artists like Rihanna, 2NE1, Mariah Carey, Big Bang, Wonder Girls, Whitney Houston, and Eminem sparked her interest as she begged her parents to pay for singing and dancing lessons. The lessons seemed to have paid off because after she auditioned she was called back a week later.
When she passed the second callback, Jen and her parents wasted no time signing the contract as she went on to debut with four other unknown girls, to form the group Amity at 13 years old. They got popular fast, from their adorable charm to their catchy songs and music videos. Things were great. But things weren't always what they seemed to be.
Egos began to get in the way.
As time went on, the company began to pay more attention to more girls than others. The leader, Hailey, even felt threatened by Jen's dance skills and the company forced her to dance slower, and with less effort to feel like she was a sluggish dancer. To Jen, it didn't make any sense since Trinity was the most talented dancer in the group and Hailey didn't say anything to her about her dancing. Favoritism came into play.
What caught Jen's attention was that she started to not get a lot of lines like she used to in the songs. She would only sing the chorus with the group. She is also the only one who doesn't have a solo song, while the rest have their songs recorded and performed at concerts whenever Amity goes on stage for a performance.
Jen was also set over the edge, finding out that Amity had recorded songs without her. Her voice was great at harmony but she wasn't credited for it. They recorded her and made it seem like Hailey sang the beautiful harmonious notes. As she took all the credit, Jen couldn't do anything about it because of the contract.
Whose fault was that? Jen's.
So maybe she did get a little too excited by the fact that she was going to be signed to a record company. Maybe she and her parents didn't read the contract despite the president's reassuring that everything would be fine and fair.
She was naïve and young.
Rushing into things without really thinking things through. Not thinking of a backup plan just in case things like this happen.
She wasn't like the rest of her bandmates. Her love for KPOP, thanks to listening to Wonder Girls, Big Bang and 2NE1, motivated her to learn the Korean language while the company thought it was pointless.
They asked her, "Who would you speak Korean to?"
"Why are you trying to learn that language if you're in America?"
"We're not touring in South Korea; you're wasting your time."
However, she continued to learn for her enjoyment and love for the Korean culture. It was difficult at first. She had a difficult time pronouncing the words. There were times she wanted to stop but her parents gave her encouragement because they knew how much she loved KPOP. For her studying, she tried to study Korean for at least an hour or two a day since she was 13.
Thankfully it's been beginning to pay off.
Sometimes she ponders what if she didn't do the audition and stayed in school just like her two older sisters. She could probably get somewhere with a college degree. But she loved being an artist. She wanted to do this.
And as much as she hated to admit it, this company wasn't the place for her to do it. She finally got her dream to be a performer, and now she was thinking about letting it go because of the mistreatment. She had to do what was best for her.
"This'll bring out those pretty eyes." The makeup artist explained with enthusiasm as she applied mascara to Jen's eyes.
"Oh make sure you put on more makeup on her. She needs it." An unfortunate familiar mocking voice belonging to Hailey was heard as she shot Jen an innocent smile. The harsh words made Jen clench her fists and glare at her. "What? Just telling the truth. They always say the truth hurts."
"Hailey, stop it. Don't be such a brat. That's so friggin' rude. Go somewhere." Angelina sternly called her out. Hailey responds with a shrug and walks away to get mic'd up. Angelina walks over to Jen with a smile and puts a hand on her shoulder. "You look fine, Jen Jen. Don't listen to her."
Jen didn't reply as she continued to be in deep thought about being in Amity. Everyone should be getting along, not trying to bring each other down.
The redheaded Angelina notices her frowning and snaps her out of it as the makeup artist finishes her make up.
"You know you have to stop doing that. Letting people get to you and ruining your pretty smile with frowns. Is it Hailey again?" Angelina asked.
Jen looked up at her friend. Best friend. The only friend she had in this girl group. Angelina was the one who had her back in this company and wasn't self-centered or had the fame go to her head. She was the one who let Jen know about the company recording without her as well. She was very grateful she had someone looking out for her.
"I don't care anymore. I'm not paying her any mind." Jen firmly asserted with a sigh.
"Ten minutes until the show!" The manager called out as everyone ran frantically for finishing touches.
"We'll talk later." Jen promised as they both walked outside the dressing room to get mic'd up.
"Come on Jen, we ain't got all day!" The manager escorted her to the stage before giving her a jacket to put over her dark brown skin. "And remember, don't dance so hard."
"I don't understand what the big deal is." She mumbled, shaking her head in disapproval.
"Big deal? Hailey needs the spotlight. It would be great if you remember to stand back, this time. You aren't the visual, get that through your head. How many times do we have to tell you that? This is your last warning."
Jen frowns in response as she watches the manager walk away. Frustration was beginning to build up inside of her. Whatever happened to equality? Not one person is better than the other. She wanted to be in a company that had equal opportunities.
The show was like the others. Fake smiles, watching Hailey's back, it wasn't fun anymore. Jen believed she had so much potential to improve and become a great performer, but her talent was wasted and not used the way she wanted it to be. She didn't want to be wasted and neglected.
Amity was supposed to be a team. A five-member girl group who had each other's backs. Be great friends and treat each other as equals. Not a competition of who's better than each other. It was sad that the entertainment business was like that these days.
After the show, Jen checks out her Twitter account and tweets 'Thank you for an awesome show Philly! #AmityInPhilly'
She didn't have a whole bunch of fans like the others since they were on TV shows, interviews and other photoshoots to get more publicity. She always pondered why SongStress didn't do that for her. They never really gave her a chance to show off what she could do as a singer and dancer. Or even as an actress if she could try that out.
She didn't say anything because she was too humbled. She was grateful for all the things she had done so far in Amity. All she ever wanted was to perform and she got that. She would ask occasionally if her solo would come up, or if any photoshoot or show opportunity was available for her. But SongStress would always give her the same answer.
"Not at the moment. Soon."
How far away was "Soon?"
She felt discouraged. It was like she was just there. She might as well be called a backup dancer.
While backstage in the dressing room, lounging on the couch, she checked the #AmityInPhilly hashtag since it was trending on Twitter while the rest of her bandmates came in. Jennie began to think about her birthday which was tomorrow and it started to boost her mood.
"Hey guys, I wanted to talk to you about something." She spoke softly, gaining their attention. "Since my birthday is tomorrow, I planned this singing exhibit where people around the area can showcase their singing for fun. Do a little meet and greet, pictures...all sorts of stuff. It'll be a fun gathering. I also made a song and I'd like you all to be there to support me."
"You know we have to practice right?" Trinity recalled in a flat tone.
The indifference in Trinity's voice made Jennie's stomach drop as she timidly replied, "I-It's after practice."
"And where is this?"
"In my hometown. Here in Philly. It'll start around 7:00PM."
"Does SongStress know about this?" Hailey asked, looking skeptical at the event that's been planned.
"Why wouldn't they?" Jen questioned.
"We'll see about the event. Anyway, group meeting!" Hailey called out. "I'm so proud of us! We definitely have to celebrate tonight. We're going to dinner. But uh Jen, remember what the manager told you about your diet. And you were a bit sloppy out there. Don't make us look bad out there. Did you practice at all?"
All the happiness about the upcoming event for her birthday left Jennie's body as annoyance was clearly shown on her sweaty face. Okay, so she didn't have a flat stomach like the rest of them did. She had a curved stomach with a small pudge but that was nothing to go on a diet for. She was already satisfied with how she looked. She told herself she did want to work out to gain more muscle and possible abs on her stomach when she gets a little older, but she wasn't going to feel obligated to do so. She'll do it in her free time.
Her hair was naturally curly and her thighs were a bit thicker than theirs. She even had light stretch marks on her hips but so what? Why does that have to make her go on a diet? She was born this way, and she was fine with how she was. Why should she change her look because someone else wanted her to? She wanted to look natural, not a Barbie doll. She was still going through puberty as well. The baby fat was still there but it'll most likely disappear from her body and face soon enough when she's a little older.
"You know I really don't understand why I'm the only one who has to go on a diet. I'm perfectly fine. I'm the same size as you. I'm not starving myself." Jennie protested with irritation.
"Well you're not going out with us, so get food at the hotel and get yelled at by the manager. It's on you."
Jennie shakes her head in disbelief. "I really can't stand you."
"Whoa, what did I do?" Hailey faked a shocked look.
"I think you know what you've done. This is so unfair."
"It's not that serious." Layla sighed
"It is serious. Almost all of you have the biggest egos I've ever seen and it's like you're forgetting that we all made Amity and we work as a team. Can't you see how wrong this is? How I'm the only one who has to dance slower while you guys give it your all? I want to put as much effort as everyone else." Jen exclaimed
"Jen everything is going to be okay-" Angelina tried to reassure but she waved her hand and shook her head.
"I'm gonna go. Enjoy dinner." She grabs her bags and leaves the room.
Hailey sighs out of annoyance. "This is why you don't have young people in groups because they always want to act like brats. It should've just been the 4 of us, but no~ they wanted one more person and they had to pick her out of all people. She doesn't do anything but whine and complain-"
"Hailey shut up!" Angelina exclaimed sharply while standing up. "You're the brat here."
"Excuse me? Who do you think you're talking to?"
"You're not superior to any of us just because you're the leader. And if I were betting on the future of Amity...I'd say we'll disband and it'll all be because of you."
Hailey huffed in dissatisfaction. "I am so telling the manager on the both of you."
"Oh go ahead. The only reason you're here is because the vice president is your father. Did you even audition for SongStress or did you get everything handed to you on a silver platter?" The redhead questioned. Taking the silence as an answer, she retrieved her bag and grumbled, "That's what I thought."
---
An hour had passed since Jen left backstage and went back into the hotel room she shared with Angelina. She was lying on her back in bed, looking at the ceiling as her stomach continued to growl mercilessly.
"I'm so hungry." She grumbled and clutched her stomach.
She managed to buy a couple of bags of chips in a vending machine with the paper money she had on her but she craved food to satisfy her hunger.
Suddenly she sees Angelina with a bright smile on her face and a large box of pizza in hand, walking inside the room.
"Let's eat biatch~!" she cheerfully said and placed the pizza on the bed before parking herself on the bed as well.
"I thought you were at dinner!" Jen stammered, looking wide-eyed at the pizza on the bed.
"I can't stand those girls, I'm not hanging out with them." She responded with a shrug.
"But I'm supposed to go on that dumb diet..." Jen grumbled.
"Bitch eat. I don't give a crap what they say, you are eating to your heart's content. Don't starve yourself because they want you to look a certain way. You know what they're trying to do is wrong. I see it, you see it. You have to stand your ground and speak up."
"But if it gets me fired then what?"
"I would rather be fired. I'm eating all the pizza I want. They can't stop me. And they won't stop you. Sit. Eat. Chill. I gotta vent to you about Hailey."
Jen happily sits back on the bed and bites into the hot, cheesy pepperoni pizza that was fresh from Pizza Hut. "What happened with you and Hailey?"
"Oh my gosh...I don't think I can take much more of this. She keeps talking crap about you. She thinks the world revolves around her. And it's like the others are followers, I swear. They always wanna just back up what she says. Or just stand there and agree with everything she says. Like are you blind?" She retorted as she started to get angry thinking about the situation.
"Well, she does have power over us because of her father..." Jen grumbled.
"And that shouldn't be the case. She should work hard and not get an easy route just because of some connection with family. I always see that these days. I mean I know it is great to have connections but still endure the hard work that others dealt with who started from the bottom."
"Yeah, but that's not how the world seems to work." Jennie trailed off, thinking about the future.
"Enough about her. I have another serious question to ask."
"What is it?"
"You thinking of leaving?" Angelina assumed. From the shocked look on Jennie's face, she gets her answer, mumbling "I thought so."
"I have to, I just can't do this anymore." Jen pointed out with a sad smile. "I talked to my agent and let her know everything."
"I understand. But are you still going to sing?"
"Yes. I still want to perform."
The redheaded girl nodded in approval. "Good. Whenever you leave, it'll be worth it. So don't worry. Just stay in touch with me. I'm gonna miss you. Whatever the future holds for you, I'll be supporting you."
Jen smiled. "Thank you, Angie. I'll be supporting you too!"
"Now let's watch some Spongebob." She grabbed the remote off the nightstand.
Jennie giggled at her. "Aren't you too old for that?"
"Ha! You're NEVER too old for Spongebob."
-------
November 10th 2012. Jennie was finally 15 years old. She went to the studio in a bright mood, happily thanking everyone for the birthday wishes. She received birthday phone calls from her family and tweets from fans.
The day starts like always. Dance practice and then recording in the studio. But she couldn't help but wonder if she'd get a surprise party just like all the other girls have on their birthdays. But as the day went on, she didn't receive anything after she left the studio. She tried not to feel too disappointed as she got herself ready for the 1st annual Singing Exhibit she created. It was called, "Avid Vocals" that was in a small lounge with a stage.
When she arrived, she was grateful for the turnout. There were over 120 people in the place. A good start for a nice little event, to meet people who are passionate about singing and dancing like herself.
She makes her way up the stage and gives her welcoming speech.
"What's up, everybody!?" She grinned at the crowd and waved. "Thank you so much for coming tonight to the first annual Avid Vocals where we all come together to sing and dance to our heart's content and meet and greet with each other. I've been wanting to do this for a while now, bringing people together who enjoy performing for fun, and I'm very happy with the turnout so far. At this time, let's get started with the first performance! And if anyone else wants to perform, there's a sign-in sheet by the table. So just write your name and the song, and sing out! Enjoy the show!"
Once she left the stage, she made her way to mingle and talk with fans, signing autographs and taking photos. The performances so far were all very unique and fun to watch. There were goofy performances, singing songs like YMCA, We Will Rock You and Party Rock Anthem. Then there were performances that slayed with Single Ladies, TiK ToK, and So What by Pink.
After watching some performances, it was time for her to get on stage. She sat on a stool with her guitar in her hands.
"I've written a little song and wanted to share it with you guys." She looked around to find any members of Amity but didn't. "I hope you guys enjoy!"
They applaud her as she begins to strum along on her guitar. While she sang, she tried to search for any members of Amity in the crowd but couldn't find anyone. After she finished her song, she received a huge positive feedback from the crowd as she went backstage.
She looked at her phone while thinking that any members would find her backstage to see her but sees a text message sent 30 minutes before she went on stage from Angelina.
'You are SO not gonna believe this...the assholes kept me back and forced me to work on my raps...the rest went out somewhere to the movies. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it to support you...I'll see you back at the hotel and we'll hang :'('
Jennie lets out a sigh. She knew Angelina was telling the truth. She had a feeling Hailey would try to do something after asking her if the manager knew about it. She wasn't mad at anyone. It'd be a waste of energy.
As soon as Jennie goes back into her hotel room, she sees Angelina waiting for her anxiously. Once she heard the door close, her head shot up and she quickly got off the bed.
"They kept me on purpose, I tried everything, I'm so sorry I wasn't there." Angelina had tears in her eyes and hugged her tightly.
"It's okay. Don't worry about it." Jen responded with a sigh.
"No, it's not."
"Don't worry about it, I still had a nice birthday." She reassured. "I'm just glad I got to meet some nice fans and perform today."
"I'm sure it was a fun event. Hey, I got you something to make up for it. I hope you like it."
Hearing that, Jen's eyes light up. "Really!?"
"Yep! Close them eyes girl. And no peeking." She addressed, going back to the bed. After a few moments, she hands her a small bag. "You can open them."
Jen quickly opens her eyes and sees a pink bag in front of her. She grins widely and digs right inside to see all the CDs so far from Wonder Girls and 2NE1. "GAH! MY GIRLS~" She wrapped her arms around her for a big hug, earning a loud laugh from the redhead.
"I knew you'd react like that." Angelina chuckled and was released. "I'm not really into KPOP, never really heard of it, but I went on YouTube, listened to it and they sound pretty damn good. Both groups."
"Thank you, for this. Really. This is awesome."
"Of course. Oh, and this one group...Bang bang-wait no, it's called Big Bang." She corrected herself as Jen nodded at the correct name of the group.
"Why are they all so hot?" Angelina questioned, making Jen laugh out loud. "No, I'm serious. That is too much sexiness. That's not nice!" She crossed her arms, shaking her head.
"You'll never get used to it, trust me." The birthday girl sits on the bed. "My favorite is T.O.P. I have a big crush on him. He's so cool. I would love to meet him one day. Along with Wonder Girls and 2NE1."
"Hey, you never know. Maybe you'll get some VIP Tickets to a concert if they're in America."
"Yeah...but I wouldn't mind performing like them."
"What do you mean?"
"I wouldn't mind performing KPOP. Easier said than done right? But I love how they perform and their awesome dances."
"KPOP? That'll be interesting to see. Whatever your heart desires, I say go for it. Work hard, do research, and go for it. Anything is possible as long as you work hard for it. I would talk to your agent about that."
Jen nodded. "That's not a bad idea."
"So we're renewing our contracts tomorrow. Are you going to renew it?"
Jennie shakes her head. "I was talking to my family and agent about it. I think it's time for me to close this chapter in my life and move on."
Angelina nodded. "Do what's best for you."
----
Today was the most difficult day for Jennie as she made her way to SongStress' office to meet in the boardroom. She walked with her agent, who has been a family friend of hers since she started in Amity. Her name was Diana Parker.
Jen's parents made sure to do their research when finding someone to really aid and be there for her while she was in the entertainment business. And Diana wasn't going to let SongStress make Jennie feel obligated to resign with them after all the crap she's dealt with.
Once they walked in, they sat in front of the manager, the President of SongStress, the Vice President, HR, the Supervisor, and the executive.
"All right Jen, here, you can sign right here." The Vice President handed her the pen.
"I won't be needing that." She replied in a low voice.
"Oh? Did you bring your own? Came here prepared, I admire that." He chuckled.
"No, I mean I'm not signing that."
The room goes silent as everyone but Diana stares at her, trying to comprehend what she just said.
"...What do you mean you're not signing?" The President slowly asked.
"I don't want to renew my contract." She firmly said as they looked at her in shock.
"How about we put more money in for you? Then you'll sign?" The President suggested.
"You heard the girl. She's not signing." Her agent spoke up.
"I wasn't talking to you." He snapped at Diana and turned back to Jen in a panic. "How much do you want for the next few years?"
"No sir, I think my time is up here." Jen declared.
"What do you want to have your solo? Is that what this is about? Okay fine. We'll have your solo for the next album." The Vice President exclaimed.
Diana managed to keep her laughs to herself at how panicked SongStress was. "This is too funny." She murmured. "You feel obligated to do this, right?"
SongStress continued to ignore her as their full attention was on Jen. Jen felt like this was the most attention they had given her since she first started in the group.
"You want to be in TV Shows? We got you covered." The manager pointed out.
"Why are you doing all this now and not when I was patiently waiting and asking when it would be my turn?" Jen questioned.
"Look we have been busy and-"
"Very busy with Hailey, that's for sure." She pointed out.
"Look we need you-" The President looked at her in despair.
"No, you don't. You need me to have Hailey be the spotlight. I said no, so please just let me leave this company." She pleaded, earning harsh glares from them as they gave up.
"Fine. Then leave." The President waved her away.
"Thank you for this experience." She stood up and headed to the door with Diana.
"Oh and Jen?" The President spoke up as she stopped and turned. "I hope you realize how much of a mistake you're making." He warned, narrowing his eyes.
She smiled and turned back around. "I hope you realize how much of a blessing this decision was for me."
After packing her things, and saying goodbye to Angelina, Jen decides to unfollow Amity on Instagram and Twitter but Angelina as fans started questioning it. After a couple of hours, she was fed up with the constant notifications of Amity and decided to just deactivate her Twitter and delete her Instagram to get away from it all.
------
After leaving and going back home, Jennie went back to high school, while continuing to learn Korean and training for singing and dancing. Things were how they used to be. Going to school, still singing and dancing for fun. But she felt like something was missing. She still wanted to perform. But she didn't want to be in another situation like she was with SongStress. As a result, she researched different companies. The K-Pop itch came back as she decided to check out what SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment were offering.
She managed to go to an SM Entertainment audition but they told her she was not what they were looking for and she didn't look like a K-Pop star. She was upset at the unsuccessful attempt but she was glad they didn't take her. She didn't want to get any plastic surgery if they wanted her to.
As much as she wanted to be a part of SM Entertainment, she felt like their style wasn't for her and she wanted to be a part of a company that wasn't one of the huge companies if possible. Start from the bottom and work her way up. Win awards and break records that aren't from the Big 3 companies.
As 2013 rolls around, she suddenly gets a phone call out of the blue from Diana in mid-January.
"This is rare!" Jen beamed, happy to hear her voice.
"Very, it's been a while! How you been?"
"I'm doing all right. But I'm getting that itch again."
"Well, you're in luck because it's about to be scratched."
"What do you mean?"
"I was just curious, you still want to sing and dance, right?"
"Right!"
"You still studying Korean?"
"You betcha!"
"There's an audition coming up, for a South Korean Company called BigHit Entertainment. They're looking for some trainees. Now, I know it's not like SM Entertainment or YG Entertainment, and BigHit seems like they're not big on foreigners at the moment but you never know what'll happen. Don't let that discourage you. You up for it?"
"It's worth a shot. I want to try."
"Okay, I'll set you up so you can go to the audition in New York. Start preparing. I'll email you what they're looking for so you can practice."
"Thank you so much!"
After a week of training, Jen and her parents arrive at the private audition. She heads inside to sit in the waiting room, while she sees others, older and even younger people preparing for their audition. One by one their names were called as they went inside.
"Jennifer Walker." A woman called her name, standing in the doorway with a clipboard in hand.
Hearing her name get called caused her stomach to drop. Jennie attempts to ignore the nervousness as she stands up and is led inside by the woman.
'Everything is going to be OK. You worked hard, things will be fine.' She tries to reassure herself as she goes into a dance practice room where she sees the panel of three males, staring at her as soon as she walks in.
The three males look up at her. Before they were checking out her headshots and information.
Age 15
5 foot 5
Her experience with singing and dancing since elementary school and being a part of SongStress Entertainment with Amity for over a year. She also has four years of experience playing the guitar. Her heart began to race as she remembered to bow and politely greet them.
"So you have experience with music videos and performing live?" She was asked.
"Yes. Amity has done several music videos and a tour around the US."
"Why did you leave?"
Jennie swallowed as she, unfortunately, remembered bad memories. "New opportunities. I felt like SongStress wasn't the place for me. I still want to perform. I love performing."
"Sing an English song for us."
She decides to sing Rihanna's California King Bed with an instrumental from her phone. She starts nervously, but after a few lines, she gains more confidence and sings out, before they stop her after the chorus. Afterward, she had to sing a Korean song, and she chose Wonder Girls' Me In as she found an instrumental on her phone.
"Hey beautiful boy, let me love you, right now~" The nervousness was gone from her singing and filled with more power and confidence as she sang until after the chorus. She began to feel her face heat up after they told her to stop while she was getting too into it.
After the singing, they told her to dance, so she put on 2NE1's I Am The Best, nailing the dance moves on beat, and almost forgetting that this was an audition because she felt like she was in her room again, dancing happily to the song like she always does.
Finally, they take photos of her for headshots and to see how she'll look on camera.
After the photos, the audition was over and she went back to the panel and was told by the men at the table, "We're developing a boy group and were thinking of having one girl in it too. We'll get back to you. That's all for today."
"Thank you so much for taking the time to see me." She bowed again.

A week later, Jen was on her laptop with her headphones in, listening to 2NE1's I Am The Best while checking her email. She suddenly sees an email from BigHit a couple of hours ago. Her eyes widen and her stomach drops.
Was this the result of the audition?
She slowly clicks it open and her throat tightens, making hot tears fill up her eyes. She read the email a couple of times to comprehend what was happening. She passed and they wanted her to become a trainee at their company. She wipes the tears of joy from her eyes and screams in her pillow. Afterwards, she tries to collect herself.
"Let's not get too ahead of myself. Let's take it one day at a time, Jennie. Things are going to be just fine. Oh my God, I can't believe this is happening!" She said excitedly and then ran downstairs to tell her parents. "Guys, I got great news!"
------
After telling her agent and her parents about the shocking news, they all made their way to Seoul, South Korea. Jen's nerves got to her as she wished the flight was quicker. She was so excited to be able to get an opportunity to work in the K-Pop industry. She hopes to break down the barriers of being a foreigner and an African American in the K-Pop industry. Although she still was not aware of how different their work ethic is from America, she believed that she would be ready for the challenge.
After the plane lands, safely, the party finds someone that had Jen's name on a sign and they are escorted to Big Hit's building. Jen was in awe, gazing out the window as the car went past various streets in Seoul. She never knew how beautiful the area looked until she saw it up close and personal. She was looking forward to doing everything here. Eating, shopping, school, taking walks around, everything. So many things went through her head that before she knew it, the car stopped and they were in front of Big Hit's building.
Jen's stomach drops at the sight.
She was here.
The agency that wanted to take a chance on her.
The place who thought she had what it takes.
Big Hit Entertainment.
Her mom puts a hand on Jen's thick curly hair. "Sweetie, are you ready?" She smiled.
Jen nods twice and they all get out of the car. As they head inside, they go to the receptionist to let them know about their reason for being there and they make their way to Bang Shi-Hyuk's office with a translator.
"Music and Artist for Healing, huh?" Jen's dad read the slogan and nodded in approval. "I like it."
"Sweetie, you haven't said a word. Are you okay?" Jen's mom looked concerned at her daughter's silence.
Jen looked up and smiled nervously. "I'm excited just nervous."
"Everything is going to be fine. Don't worry, honey."
"You can come in." A staff member said in English as he opened the door for them.
As soon as they all walk in, they see the man himself, Bang Shi-Hyuk.
"You must be Jennifer Walker." He speaks in Korean.
The sound of his voice made her timid as she bowed politely. She'll have to get in a habit of bowing in South Korea. As she looks at him, she starts to remember his face. He was the one sitting in the middle during her audition.
"Yes, I am." Her voice affirmed in a shaky tone in Korean.
He let out a chuckle. "I'm not that scary, am I?"
"No, sorry, just nervous."
He nodded and smiled. "Don't be. I want this to be a happy environment."
"Thank you. These are my parents." She introduced herself as her parents continued to look at her in surprise at how well her Korean was. "And my agent." She pointed to Diana
"What is he saying? And what did you say?" Jen's mom eagerly asks.
"I just introduced you guys," Jen responded in English and the translator took over to help Diana and her parents understand.
"Your daughter did very well during the audition. I believe she'll do great things for my company. She's in good hands here." Bang PD noted
"Thank you for allowing our daughter to chase her dreams here." Her father spoke.
"Sit down, please. I want to discuss the contract." Bang PD motioned them to sit and they complied.
As he started going over the contract, Jen's butterflies came back in her stomach. Would her family let her be out of the country for so many years to become a K-Pop star? She'll miss birthdays, weddings, graduations, births, even funerals.
"What is he saying?" Diana asked as the translator explained that they need Jen and her parents to sign and it's for a lot of years.
"A-a lot of years?" Her mom asked as she bit her lip. "We're not going to see you that often, are we?"
"If I am in a group and our schedules are fully packed, most likely not, Mom." The teen could see the tears developing in her mother's eyes.
Her mom grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "My little girl...in South Korea...chasing her dream to perform."
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Her father asked in a serious tone, keeping his emotions together. "Is this truly what you want, Jennifer?"
"I really want to do this. I'll call, I'll text, I'll Skype you, anything, I will keep in touch. If I can visit I will, I promise. I want this. I love K-Pop, and I truly believe this company is the best for me. I'm going to train hard to achieve my dream. Please. Let me do this."
"We're not going to be able to see you that often. We're not going to watch you grow up into a beautiful young lady." Her mom smiled sadly.
"If any boys give you trouble...I'm a phone call away, sweetheart," Her father placed a hand on her shoulder as he tried to hold back the tears. "I'm so proud of you."
"Thank you. I love you guys." Tears raced down Jen's cheeks as she tried to wipe them away.
Her father turned to Bang PD and nodded. "We'll sign it."
Bang PD nodded and handed them the contract. After they read over everything with Diana, Jen's father signs it first, and shortly afterward, her mom does the same and hands the pen to Jen. She lets out a breath and signs her name before handing it to Bang PD with two hands.
"Thank you. I will work hard." Jen bowed with a bright smile.
"As of today, you'll be a trainee. I'll be watching you, kid." Bang PD smiled.
After receiving a new iPhone and keys to the dorm to stay with the other chosen female trainees, Jen spends a few more hours with her family before a heartfelt goodbye as they go back to America. Her agent, Diana, stays with her in Seoul as she works with Big Hit as well. Once she heads to the dorm, she is greeted by the rest of the female trainees and quickly opens up to all of them. They welcomed her with open arms and she was grateful that she could communicate with them, with the Korean that she knew without any language barriers.
One thing she did wish she learned before she got to Seoul was how to eat with chopsticks. It took her forever to learn how to use chopsticks when eating and how different Korean eating habits were from America's. She had a lot to learn about South Korea's culture and was looking forward to it.
The next day was Jen's first day of training. Learning various dances and getting singing lessons. She also met other dancers and trainees. The training was so much different than in America, it was insane. She admired how passionate and hard the dances were.
A few weeks went by and on a certain Thursday night, after dancing was over, she decided to stay a little longer to clean up the choreography that she learned for hours.
With her curly hair in a puffball after all the perspiration, she groans at how she is going to be doing her hair while in South Korea. Maybe she should get a weave. But she'll probably have to order weaves to have it shipped to her. And order American products for her. She should've thought things through.
As she packed up after spending another hour practicing, she heard a happy English voice behind her.
"Hello~" The cheerful voice filled her ears.
Tumblr media
She stands up and turns around to see a guy with curly blond hair and a boxy grin on his face.
"H-hi! Are you talking to me?" She responded in English with a smile.
"Y-yes. You...Am-erica? America?" He questioned in broken English.
She chuckled and nods. He sounded really cute while trying to speak English. It sounded like he was asking her if she was American.
"Yes, I am. And I speak Korean. I'm still learning but I should be fluent soon." She answered in Korean as his eyes widened.
His happy vibes were getting to her because she couldn't stop smiling at him. His positivity was off the charts. She needed that.
"Really? That's great!" He goes back to his native tongue. "My name is Taehyung."
"Nice to meet you! I'm Jennifer. You can call me Jennie, Jen, any nickname you can think of. How long have you been training?"
"I've been training a while, I'm working with BTS, right now. My stage name is V. But don't tell anyone, I'm a secret member for now. I haven't been revealed yet." He playfully grinned.
Jen couldn't help but drop her jaw. "You're a part of the upcoming new group? Gosh, I want to try to get that spot as the Bangtan Girl. I've been hearing everyone talking about how they want a girl in the group."
"Ah, the girls are training quite hard for that spot. I wish you luck! How do you like it here so far?"
"I love it here. Everyone is so welcoming. I still need to learn how to eat properly with chopsticks. I was a bit too excited to come here." She sheepishly grinned and rubbed the back of her neck.
"I don't mind teaching you!" He eagerly offered.
"Sounds like fun! You're really nice. Can I call you Tae?"
"Anything you like! Can I call you Ennie?"
"Haha, sure."
"I gotta go. I wanted to stop by and say hi. I hope to see you, again! Let's exchange numbers! Have you tried Korean beef yet?"
"No, I haven't. Is it good?"
"You'll love it! Hopefully, when we're both free, I'll take you so you can try some."
"O-okay!" She exchanged numbers with him.
She was still in awe of how friendly he was. She had a strong feeling they were going to be best friends very soon.
...And boy was she ever correct.
Whenever they were free, he would hang out with her and show her different sights in Seoul. She even fell in love with Korean beef. Taehyung was right when he said that she would love it. As the weeks went by, Jen continued to train while remaining best friends with Taehyung. She had gotten used to his goofiness and he made her less homesick whenever she thought about America.
It was March 1st. Jen just got off the phone with her parents and her two older sisters who were 18 and seniors in high school. Her sisters, Alani and Vienna were preparing to apply to colleges and improving their SAT and ACT scores.
Alani wanted to major in Journalism, to get into interviewing. Jen could see her being an anchor, interviewing celebs and hosting shows. While Vienna wants to major in Theater, getting into plays and other acting gigs. She was proud of them, and they were proud of her too. They told her how much they missed messing with her and it feels weird without her home. One thing that got to her was the fact that she would be missing their graduation. She informed her family about the upcoming practice for the Bangtan Girl audition. It was tomorrow.
The next day, Jennie made sure to get to the practice room early, wearing grey sweatpants, and a black tank top with a black sports bra. She made sure to put her curly thick hair in a messy bun and began to stretch. She saw there were 8 other girls in the room, that also wanted a spot to be the Bangtan Girl. She lets out a breath. This was going to be a tough competition. She prayed that things would go smoothly and that everyone would do well.
After everyone stretches, Son Seongdeuk, the choreographer for BTS arrives. He looks at every girl in the room as he stands before them. "All right, so the group I'm looking at now, is the group that wants to be that special young lady to be the Bangtan Girl of BTS."
"Currently BTS is working on two songs and we have the instrumental for them. I'm going to teach you the dances for both songs. No More Dream, and Bulletproof. I want to see how your flow is and your unique style of dance. After a few weeks, we'll have the audition." Mr. Son continued as he walked around.
"Now let me inform you of what we are looking for. The Bangtan Girl is fierce, tough, has attitude, beauty, and as the song says, bulletproof. What we are looking for is someone who can fit that persona." he informed. "And you nine ladies believe you have what it takes. And I want you to show me. I'm going to show you the dance for Bulletproof. Have a seat and watch."
The girls comply and sit down while he puts on 'We Are Bulletproof Pt 2. The first few beats made Jennie nod her head to the song. The beat was sick...but as soon as he started dancing, her eyes were about to pop out at the fierce dancing the choreographer was showing. Her jaw couldn't be shut as she watched how quick and strong the dance moves were.
'I...I have to LEARN THAT!? I can't do that! Is it too late to back out?! Wait no. No backing out. You gotta show them how much you want this. Things are going to be OK.'
'Yooooo. How am I supposed to whip my head back and forth that quick?'
'How can I move my chest like that?'
'BRUH...Those fluid movements and smooth footwork! I never did that!'
'I'm screwed.'
'H-how do you do that!?'
'Is that even HUMAN!?'
'The human body can do that?!'
There were all the thoughts in her head as she continued to watch his dancing. After he was done, the girls applauded and he told them to stand up so they could begin learning the choreography. The dance was hard and intense. Extremely intense. Nothing that she had ever danced before. It was more fluent and harder than any dance she danced in America but she was determined.
After practice, she was exhausted and stayed one more hour to try to work on the dance before her body just couldn't take any more for the day.
A week went by after learning the Bulletproof dance and they went to the No More Dream dance. Jennie still was mind-boggled at how she managed to do a hip thrust after some difficulty. Guys make it look so easy. She wasn't used to moving that part of her body yet. It must've been a hilarious sight to see her practicing hip thrusting back at the dorm while the other trainees were there. A week went by after that and it was now Friday. Mr. Son just finished the final practice day for the No More Dream dance with Bang PD watching the progress closely.
Jen lays her back on the floor, panting heavily. "So. Much. Dancing. I need a hot bath." She murmured in English before forcing herself to sit up. She looked around at the other girls who were just as exhausted if not even more than her.
Bang PD stands up from his seat after watching the whole dance practice. "You ladies have homework. The audition for the Bangtan Girl is on Monday. You have the weekend to practice. The homework is to create a verse for Bulletproof. Mr. Son gave you the instrumental when you first started learning the dance, so you can practice during your free time. The Bangtan Girl always sings with the Bangtan Boys. I want to see what you can come up with for the song and bring in your attitude and style to it."
"Just one verse?" Jen asked earning a nod from him as they got dismissed.
How was she going to create a verse? It's been a while since she wrote a song. The last song was during her Singing Exhibit for her birthday last year.
During the weekend, Jennie could not think of anything. When she tried to, it went well but she ended up scrapping it and throwing it in the recycle bin because it wasn't what she thought it would be. It was tough to admit that she started to get a writer's block. Saturday night she tried again, listening to the instrumental a couple of times.
"I have no fear so don't try to stop me..." she wrote and looked at it. "Eh...something needs to go in the middle of that..."
'Tellin' me your doubts won't change my mind'
'Staying up all night dancing'
"Ugh, I don't like it." She threw it away and sighed, running her hands through her messy curls. "I hope to learn more about lyric writing while I'm in this company. Right now this is terrible."
She groaned and tried again.
'Unlike you partying all night while I focused on my dreams'
'Everywhere I go, everything I do, I will show you and all the people who looked down on me'
'I'm in my own lane'
"Ah...this is so corny!" She exclaimed and frowned. "They're not gonna accept this. I'll just put down what I can. I can't stress over it."
----
Monday came by quickly as the girls, Bang PD, Namjoon, Mr. Son, and Taehyung were in the practice room. Jennie wore white sweatpants, a white jacket, white Nikes, and a white tank top for the occasion. She even put a black bandana as a crown over her curly hair that was put down.
First, all the girls were to perform the Bulletproof dance. Jen's efforts were successful, thankfully remembering the dance. She tried to put more flavor into it with thuggish facial expressions that didn't seem too forced, and it went well, showing more attitude to fit the instrumental.
After that, one by one the girls presented their custom verses while doing random dance moves to go with the verse and beat of the song. Namjoon had his black shades on and his head down, deep in thought as he listened to each girl's verse. Jen had a hard time trying to figure out what he was thinking when each girl auditioned. Meanwhile, V kept dancing and nodding his head to their verses. Each girl did so well, but she hoped that she could stand out from them.
"Next." Mr. Son turned to Jennie.
She swallows hard as she lets out a shaky breath. Standing up, she received a mic.
'I got this...remember what you practiced, girl. Time to slay them all.' Jen gave herself some last words of encouragement as she stood in the middle of the practice room.
The girls watched behind her while she stood in front of the men watching her. She turns to Mr. Son and nods as he puts on the instrumental of Bulletproof. The instrumental comes on for the second verse of the song as she begins.
Badda bing badda boom
Jennie's here
I have no fear...so don't try to stop me
Hah!
Tellin' me your doubts...won't change my mind
With his ears perking up, Namjoon slowly looked up to watch her perform, fully engaged in how she sounded.
You want me to party? I don't have time
I've been busy workin' (she slowly shimmies to the right with the beat)
I've been busy dancin' (she slowly shimmies to the left with the beat)
I'm never prancin'
Just enhancin' (She flips her hair)
I will persevere and you can't stop my flow (She stands tall, looking strong)
I'm in my own lane
I'm here to attain (She makes a fist up in the air)
I got people asking, Who's the girl?' (She looks both ways)
The one with the curls, representing the girls (She ruffles her curly hair while strutting forward)
"I'm the one with the swag and I don't mean to brag but I broke oppositions to get where I am at today!" she ended her verse just before the chorus came with a fierce expression on her face.
The song stops and she lets out a breath as everyone applauds for her. A proud smile came across her features as she bowed to everyone, thanking them. The butterflies were no longer in her stomach and she was glad to get it over with. She hoped it was enough to please them to earn that spot.
The next day was the most nerve-racking because Jennie was called to Bang PD's office. She didn't know if she had done something wrong or if it was good news. She knocked on his door and he told her to come in. She walks him to see him turn around in his chair looking at her sternly.
"Y-you wanted to see me?" She asked softly, trying to ignore his stern look.
Was he mad at her? If so what the heck did she do? She didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
"Do you know why you're here?" He questioned in a sharp tone as he crossed his arms.
"I-is it because of my audition?" She looked uncertain.
"How do you think you did? Do you think what you've done was what we were looking for?" His voice was serious as he narrowed his eyes.
'I'm about to get dropped aren't I?' She thought nervously.
"Y-yes I do." She quickly let out. "I think I've done well and tried my best."
After a few seconds of silence and staring, he speaks up again. "Well, you thought right, Bangtan Girl." He dropped his mean demeanor and smiled. "Welcome to BTS."
"Wh-what?" Her ears perked up as she widened her eyes. "What did you just say?"
"I had to keep myself from laughing." He chuckled. "I was trying to act as serious as possible. I hope I didn't scare you, too much. Congratulations, you are the Bangtan Girl. Your audition was great. You've done well."
"No way. No friggin way, are you serious right now!?" She started to form hot tears in her eyes as she started to get emotional.
"Your stage name is Jennie just like in your verse. I'm looking forward to watching you grow here. I'll be watching you closely. I have faith in you, kid." He said as she bowed
"Thank you so much." She wiped her tears. She had to urge to hug him but she wanted to try to stay professional.
"Your stuff is being moved to BTS' dorm. You'll be staying there from now on," He dismissed her.
She leaves the office and jumps up and down, running down the hallway with excitement. She quickly calls her parents. "Mom!"
"What?! What happened!? Is everything okay!?" She exclaimed in panic at Jen's sudden yelling.
"I'm the Bangtan Girl! I passed the audition! They picked me!" She yelled as her mom screamed and yelled to her husband to tell him the good news.
"I knew you could do it kiddo!" Jennie hears her father's voice.
After she finishes her conversation with her parents, she calls V and meets him in front of the Big Hit building. V runs and wraps his arms around her in a giant bear hug, spinning her around.
"I knew you could do it Ennie!" He laughed.
"This is so surreal, Tae. I'm in BTS!" She shakes him as he continues to laugh at her excitement.
"Come on, let's head to the dorm."
"R-right now?"
"Yeah!" He grabbed her hand to walk with her. "Don't be nervous! They're all very eager to meet you!"
"Seriously?"
"We found out right after the audition and when you girls left."
"I still can't believe this is happening."
"Believe it Ennie!"
As they make their way to the dorm, Tae opens the door. "MEET THE NEWEST MEMBER OF BTS! THE BANGTAN GIRL! JENNIE IS HERE!" He happily yelled in the dorm.
Almost instantly she hears yells and happy screams of excitement as the guys rush up to her while V gently pushes her inside and shuts the door. She almost laughed at how eager everyone was to meet her. They were bursting with energy. She could get used to this warm welcome.
"There she is!" Hobi screeched out of excitement
"We've been waiting for you!" Jin grinned
"She's pretty!" Jimin yelled
"H-hi!" She nervously greeted them as they all started talking at once.
"Yah! Guys, don't smother her! Let her breathe! One at a time! One-at-a-time!" Tae protectively grabbed her hand and took her further into the dorm as the rest of the boys followed them, continuing to ask questions.
"You two are just in time for dinner! Let's eat!" Jin announced.
"Aren't you gonna introduce us to her, Tae?" Jimin pointed out as they got settled to eat
"Ladies first." Namjoon gestured as Jen smiled nervously.
"My name is Jennifer, you can call me Jennie, Jen, or whatever nickname you come up with for me. I'm from America. I'm 15. Bang PD told me my stage name in BTS will be Jennie. I have two sisters who are 18, and I'm looking forward to working with you guys."
"You have a pretty smile!" Hobi pointed out. "So adorable!"
Jennie starts to feel her face heat up at the constant compliments. She wasn't used to this at all. She buries her face in her hands.
"Ahhh she's shy!" Hobi yelled as the guys started getting wild but Namjoon.
"Yah! Pipe down!" Namjoon calmed them down and turned to her. "Hello, I'm Namjoon. Better known as Rap Monster. I'm the leader of the group. Looking forward to working with you. I was impressed by your performance."
"Nice to meet you. I noticed you watching me closely. I was a bit intimidated." She admitted.
"Haha, really?" He raised a brow.
"Yeah like you and the glasses and everything. You scared me a bit." She chuckled.
"Sorry if I scared you. I was so focused on your performance. You just caught my attention." he smiled, revealing his dimples. "They made a good choice. Looking forward to seeing what else you can do."
"He's not scary at all, trust me," Hobi reassured. "Hello~ I'm Hoseok. You can call me by my stage name is J-Hope or Hobi."
"I'm the oldest, Jin. Anything you need, just let me know." Jin smiled politely.
"I'm Jimin. The coolest member of the group." He boasted as the guys disagreed and started hitting him with pillows, making Jennie laugh out loud. She could get used to their shenanigans.
Jungkook was usually shy around girls but Jen's demeanor made him relax and less nervous. He smiled awkwardly and looked away, avoiding eye contact until he heard her warm voice which made him look into her eyes.
"Hi, I'm Jennie. Nice to meet you. Your name?" She greeted.
"I'm Jungkook."
"I'm Min Yoongi. You can call me Suga." He greeted her as she nodded and smiled
"Eat up!" Jin gestured as they all began to eat.
Jennie finally managed to use chopsticks the proper way and chowed away.
"Guess you'll be a part of the Maknae line," Namjoon confirmed, remembering she said she was 15. "Your birthday?"
"November 10th."
"Ahh she's younger than Jungkook! She'll be our baby girl!" Jimin announced. "So what is America like?"
"It's what you make of it. I hope one day we'll all be able to go together and you can experience it yourselves." She smiled. "I still need to get used to eating properly and bowing here. I'm still not adjusted to your culture yet but I will soon. Please be patient with me guys."
"You're fine, don't worry about it." Yoongi waved her doubts away.
"What are your passions," Hobi asked
"I really love performing and meeting fans. I just love to sing and dance for fun. Music is my life." She happily revealed.
"What do you like to eat? I can put it in future references." Jin chimed in.
"Some foods I like are pizza, white chocolate, fish and chicken."
"Once we get some Korean food in you, I'm sure that'll also be your favorite food, too."
"I bet they will."
"Hey, what's your favorite color?" Jungkook eagerly asked.
"I like purple." She responded
"Any hobbies?" Namjoon questioned
"I like to play the guitar. Play occasional video games and golf." Jen addressed.
"Golf?" Jin asked in amazement.
"I'm not that good but I like the sport. It's fascinating to check out." She pointed out.
The rest of the dinner went great as she started to feel less nervous and excited to be working with BTS. The boys were so nice and welcoming towards her.
"Oh yeah, let's show Jen her room!" Yoongi announced as he stood up. The boys escorted her to a small room in the dorm. "Since you're a girl, we're sure you wanted your privacy. It's smaller than the rest of ours. I hope it's all right."
"No, it's perfect." She turned to them, looking appreciative. "Thanks, guys."
Later that night, everyone got ready for bed. Jennie said goodnight to everyone and laid under the covers in her new home. On her back, she looked up at the ceiling with a huge smile on her face.
"I'm going to like it here...I'm so happy. Thank you, Lord, for this opportunity." She sighed in contentment and fell asleep.

The former One Direction will perform in Chile on May 24 at the Bicentenario Stadium in La Florida with his "Faith in the Future" tour. We talked exclusively with the British star who went from being a teenage pop idol to a professional soccer player, and finally to consolidating his own more mature and rocking sound. This is the successful present of the artist who loves to sing as much as he loves to play ball.

[Translated from Spanish]
In 2022, Louis Tomlinson stepped on Chile for the first time alone to present his debut album "Walls". A bet that exceeded any expectation, because the madness was such that the British, that the former One Direction filled the Movistar Arena three times.
But that was not all, his fans had prepared a surprise for him that, as he confessed to La Cuarta, gave him "goosebumps." During the chorus of the song "Kill my mind", the young women organized themselves to coordinate the lights of their cell phones, creating a kind of mesmerizing wave, leaving the singer and his team speechless, so much so that the moment was recorded in his documentary "All of Those Voices". Moreover, the photo of one of those concerts was nothing more and nothing less than the poster.
But the music that makes him vibrate so much was not always his first choice in life. In 2013, just when the One Direction world tour that brought them to Chile was announced with two concerts at the National Stadium, Louis signed a contract with the League TwoDoncaster Rovers team, and only in 2017, two years after the group took an indefinite break, he was able to debut as a substitute in a match witnessed by more than five thousand fans.
“It's really an honor to be in the club where I spent most of my childhood," he wrote at the time on his Twitter account. However, the boy's dream stagnated when in 2020 and in the middle of the pandemic, he decided to launch himself as a soloist. All of his former bandmates had done it; it was his time.
Thus Louis - whom we recognize with nostalgia, familiarity, and a psychological interest - became one of the most important artists of his generation, adding milestones such as a billion streams on Spotify, numerous awards and being in the Guinness World Records book for breaking the record for the most watched live broadcast concert of a male soloist.
"I FEEL VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE THAT LOVE HERE"
On the day of the interview with the newspaper, we arrived at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel where the interpreter stayed two days after a successful presentation at Tecate Pa'l Norte 2024 in Mexico, and a promotional step through Brazil. Despite the fatigue, he maintained a good attitude with the press, but mainly with his crowded fans outside the venue, who shouted his name from time to time.
Being in front of a pop idol who has spent half of his life on tour, in conferences and with a handful of iconic songs that marked more than a generation, is truly intimidating, but Louis makes anyone lower their guard because he welcomes you as if he were your friend. Wearing a pair of relaxed jeans, black t-shirt and sneakers in tune, he smiles and greets us in a friendly manner. Although he is surrounded by people who make up his team— overwhelming— but this is his natural environment; and thus begins a dialogue with La Cuarta about his two passions.
Q: Louis, you return to Chile in May after filling three arenas on your last visit, something historic! What will it be like to return with that powerful precedent?
Louis: I feel like my Spanish is coming back! I almost knew what you were asking (laughs). I'm very excited, I feel very lucky to be able to perform in an enclosure of that size in my... well, technically on my second solo tour. I feel very grateful to have that love and passion here. I'm mainly very excited about these shows.
Q: In several of your "Faith In the Future" songs, you talk about nostalgia, changes and the passage of time. Are they topics that you think about frequently or only arise when composing?
Louis: Yes, I would say that I am a little bit of a deep thinker. I think it helps me as a songwriter, but I also think that nostalgia is a great thing to write about. It’s a great topic to feel as a listener and also to write as a songwriter. And I'm also interested in psychology, so anything that makes the brain feel in a certain way, I think it's interesting.
Q: What would the 32-year-old Louis with a successful second album under his arm and a new tour say to the teenager who applied to The X Factor in 2010?
Louis: I would insist that he should do it. I think there is definitely an element, in every young person in that situation, there is something very terrifying that makes you want to start. But I would also tell you, what I have learned the most, to trust your instinct, trust that feeling and be brave to make decisions, the right decisions for yourself.
Q: Among those decisions is to be the last 1D member to make your solo career, and today we are here with "Faith In The Future" that sounds 100% yours. Looking back, how do you see the path has unwinded?
Louis: I feel very comfortable. The mentality I have now feels very different from the one I had when I started this trip as a soloist. I feel very blessed to be able to continue making music. But it's also a very nice feeling and it's something very new for me to feel so comfortable on stage and so comfortable when I'm making the music I want to make. In general, yes, I am very happy.
WHEN CHILE DRISTLED HIS SKIN
Q: Louis, I imagine there must be some time in your career when you said, wow, I did it!
Louis: You know, I used to resist that idea, ‘cuz for whatever reason, I don't know, I never wanted to give myself that, I suppose… my brain. But I have, I have started trying to have those moments more for myself. It often happens on the live show. It can be something that fans did together, like some kind of fan project. But also, even when I played the festival just now, in Mexico, that was one of those moments. I was kind of nervous going out there, and the audience was so vast, but people seemed to be having a good time. So yeah, it was great.
Q: Now that you mentioned the fan project, when you came to Chile, your followers prepared one for the song "Kill My Mind" that was beautiful. How did you experience it from the stage?
Louis: I had no idea that was going to happen! I know that fans often do their own little fan projects, in a way of doing something fun for me and something unique at every individual show, but I didn't know what to expect. And to be honest, that— literally gave me goosebumps, it was such an incredible spectacle. And, again, like always at these shows, and especially in Latin America, you’ve not got like ten people giving it a go, everyone in the room is participating! It’s a very euphoric thing for me to see from the stage.
Q: Changing the subject, football is one of your passions, what place does it occupy in your life today?
Louis: I would say that definitely, before I was in the band, nothing came close in my life, football was my IT. Now music is. I absolutely love football, but for me nothing comes close to music. Obviously it's my job, that's important, but as a fan, I'm talking more like a fan, I probably don't watch enough football these days, I'm usually busy, but I catch up with the "highlights" (the most important moments of the game). It's still a big part of my life, especially when they play in England. I'm excited for the next European Championship. We're going to win it!
Q: Of course! [England] is the parents of football. Finally, what makes you happiest today?
Louis: The family, definitely, the family and friends. And specifically in my work world. It's live concerts. That gives me amazing feelings.

Louis Tomlinson, two passions and one direction: “I absolutely love football, but for me nothing comes close to music”
The former One Direction will perform in Chile on May 24 at the Bicentenario Stadium in La Florida with his “Faith in the Future” tour. We spoke exclusively with the British star who went from being a teenage pop idol to a professional footballer, and finally to consolidating his own more mature and rock sound. This is the successful present of the artist who loves to sing as much as he loves
In 2022, Louis Tomlinson set foot in Chile for the first time alone to present his debut album “Walls” . A bet that exceeded any expectations, since the madness was such that the British, that the former One Direction filled the Movistar Arena three times
But that was not all, his fans had prepared a surprise for him that, as he confessed to La Cuarta , gave him “goosebumps . ” During the chorus of the song “Kill my mind” , the young women organized themselves to coordinately move the lights of their cell phones, creating a kind of hypnotizing wave, leaving the singer and his team speechless, so much so that the moment was recorded in their documentary “ “All of Those Voices . ” Furthermore, the photo of one of those concerts was nothing more and nothing less than the poster.
But the music that makes him vibrate so much was not always his first choice in life. In 2013, just when One Direction's world tour was announced, which brought them to Chile with two concerts at the National Stadium , Louis signed a contract with the League Two team Doncaster Rovers , and only in 2017, two years after the group took an indefinite break, he was able to debut as a substitute in a match witnessed by more than five thousand fans.
INTERVIEW UNDER CUT:
“It is truly an honor to be at the club where I spent most of my childhood,” he wrote on his Twitter account at the time. However, the kid's dream was stagnant when in 2020 and in the middle of the pandemic, he decided to go solo, all of his former bandmates had done it, it was his time.
Thus, Louis - who recognized us as being nostalgic, familiar and interested in psychology - became one of the most important artists of his generation, adding milestones such as one billion streams on Spotify , numerous awards and being in the Guinness World book. Records for breaking the record for the most-watched livestreamed concert by a male soloist.
“I FEEL VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE THAT LOVE HERE”
On the day of the interview with the pop newspaper , we arrived at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel where the performer spent two days after a successful presentation at Tecate Pa'l Norte 2024 in Mexico, and a promotional tour of Brazil. Despite his fatigue, he maintained a good attitude with the press, but mainly with his fans gathered outside the venue, who shouted his name from time to time.
Being in front of a pop idol who has spent half his life on tour, in conferences and with a handful of iconic songs that marked more than one generation, is truly intimidating, but Louis makes anyone lower their guard because he welcomes you. as if he were your friend. Wearing a pair of relaxed jeans, a black t-shirt and matching sneakers, he smiles and greets friendly, he is surrounded by people who make up his team, overwhelming, but it is his natural environment; and thus begins a dialogue with La Cuarta about his two passions.
Louis, you return to Chile in May after filling three arenas on your last visit, something historic! What will it be like to return with such a powerful precedent?
I feel like my Spanish is coming back! I almost knew what you were asking (laughs). I'm very excited, I feel very lucky to be able to perform in a venue that size on my... well, technically my second solo tour. I feel very grateful to have that love and passion here. Mainly I feel very excited for these shows.
- In several of your songs on “Faith in the future”, you talk about nostalgia, changes and the passage of time. Are these themes that you think about frequently or do they only arise when composing?
Yes, I would say I'm a bit of a deep thinker, I think it helps me as a songwriter, but I also think nostalgia is a great thing to write about, it's a great thing to feel about as a listener and also to write about as a songwriter. And I'm also interested in psychology, so anything that makes the brain feel a certain way, I think is interesting.
- What would the 32-year-old Louis, with a second successful album under his arm and a new tour, say to the teenager who applied for The X Factor in 2010?
I would insist that he should do it. I think there's definitely an element, in every young person in that situation, there's something very scary that makes you want to go. But I would also tell him, what I have learned the most, to trust his instincts, trust that feeling and be brave to make decisions, the right decisions for yourself.
- Among those decisions is being the last member of 1D to go solo, and today we are here with “Faith in the future” which has a sound that is 100% yours. Looking back, how do you see the path you have traveled?
I feel very comfortable. The mindset I have now feels very different than when I started this journey as a solo artist. I feel very blessed to be able to continue making music. But it's also a very nice feeling and it's something very new for me to feel so comfortable on stage and so comfortable when I'm making the music I want to make. Overall, yes, I am very happy.
-Louis, I imagine there must have been a moment in your career when you said, wow, I did it!

It often happens during concerts, it can be something that fans did together, like entertaining fan projects. But also, even when I played the festival now in Mexico, that was one of those moments. Family, definitely, family and friends. And specifically in my work world, it's live concerts, that gives me amazing feelings.

GRACE TOUR DIARY: March 25th 2025 - Los Angeles
Tumblr media
It was nice to spend the morning not having to rush. Grace was currently lounging in her bed in her suite, on one of the floors of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. She could already hear Sejin on the phone, hear the bustle of make-up artists and hair stylists clearing up the stations from the past few days. Her suite had become ‘Queen HQ,’ having taken on another Queen name like her team had - here talks were done about interviews, schedules checked, last-minute costume checks and the like.
But after tonight, she would be heading on a private plane and heading to Chicago. More interviews, photoshoots, meeting some important people, her concert and then she was off to New York. It was a whirlwind of noise and lack of time - how everything was scheduled to the last minute, trying to cram as much in as possible without overdoing it.
So far, each concert had been met with amazing reviews apart from the good few who were claiming she was nothing without BTS and just another singer who thought they could pull it off. Her numbers so far were totalling 66,000 if everyone attended tonight’s concert.
She had also seen the guest list for the VIPs tonight - Beyonce being one of them which made her stomach twist with nerves. One of the biggest artists of all time was coming to see her. The Kardashians were also in attendance, Harry Styles and the list went even longer than that.
With a deep sigh, Grace threw back the covers and went to take her shower.
The set list ran through her head, her body doing the dance moves but smaller in the shower and she was singing along to 7 Rings as she got dressed, twisting her wet hair into a messy bun for it to be dealt with later. Her mind then went to Chicago, then New York and then she would fly back to Seoul for another important performance.
If any solo career had looked simple, Grace’s had looked complicated.
Everything planned and prepared in secret, from early 2023 right through to her birthday last year when the album had been announced, her tour announcement, the mini album and then her first tour date. Yet in between all that, she was meeting designers, doing interviews to be released later on, making plans for later on.
Always later on.
Never once interfering with her boys’ plans.
That had been the major rule: whatever the boys wanted to do, it was going to come first.
She had been there for nearly all of it and she had seen all the good and the bad, she had seen what worked and what kind of didn’t. She had been behind the scenes of all of Jungkook’s GOLDEN album and his promotion for it. And by the time she had been ready to put her own on display, she had a very good idea of what she knew what was going to work.
Interviews in England, rather than America as they could wait till her tour, focus on Europe as well as Australia and New Zealand even though her tour wouldn’t be going there mainly due to time.
And cross fingers, her solo career had been somewhat of an success.
“Morning,” she said as she went into the dining area of the suite and flicked the kettle on.
“Morning,” various voices came back to her.
“Grace, what do you think about doing a pre-recorded performance for iHeart Radio Awards?” Sejin asked, flicking through some paper while typing something on his laptop.
“Do we have time for that?” she asked, adding two sugars to her tea and a good splash of milk. “When is it?”
“Award show is on the 27th but it could be recorded while we’re in Los Angeles, we just delay heading to Chicago until the filming is done. The Grammy Museum have given us permission to use their rooftop venue as well,” Sejin read from the email and glanced over.
Grace paused. She knew it would be a good opportunity and she knew it wouldn’t have been asked of her to do it if they didn’t think it she could do it yet they only had a day to do it, even that.
“Is it my songs or BTS?”
“They want you do 7 Rings and then Butter,” Sejin replied.
Another pause.
“Okay, let’s do it. See if we mix the two so they can flow together - I’ll use one of the tour costumes that we haven’t used yet for the show and we just need seven dancers so see if anyone is up for doing this, the rest and the rest of the time can fly out to Chicago to get started on rehearsals. Interviews and everything else, well let’s see what time we can get out of L.A.”
She must have been mad.
By the time she got the concert venue, her mind had switched off to what else was going on and focused on the concert ahead of her. BTS and TXT songs were playing around the arena and outside where people were already waiting, hoping to catch a glance of celebrities.
A quick change into her gym clothes, Grace made her way to where they had set up a small gym area with a BANGTAN BOMB camera following her. She had a quick laugh with the camerawoman before the filming started. “So, you want to know my tips for how I can sing and dance and run all at the same time?” Grace grinned at the camera, which ‘nodded.’
“Here’s is the secret technique - pick a song that’s really going to make you sing and then get on the treadmill,” Grace said as she flicked through the music choices on her phone that was connected to the speakers. Outro: Ego started as Grace set the treadmil to a slow walk then just as Hobi started, she had broken out into a jog.
It was quite impressive to watch her sing along, all the while building up her speed until it got to the chorus where she started doing the choreography albeit not to the full extent as she was stuck on the treadmil.
They still had a few hours left until the concert so a run through was planned, to go over niggles from the night before which was mostly blocking and making the volume loud enough for everyones in-ears.
By the time they were done and back stage getting changed, Staples Centre was open and filling up.
“Los Angeles night two - let’s go out there and show Queen B that she is amazing and we love her,” Grace said as she was surrounded by her dancers who all laughed. “Okay, just half joking. BANG,” she left it off as her dancers followed with “TAN” as they lifted their hands.
Nothing, absolutely nothing could replace hearing the crowd lose their absolute shit as the VCR played and the beginning beats of 7 Ring. Her female dancers glanced at each other then her, grinning and nodding their heads before they were lifted up.
SO MANY ARMY BOMBS!
Even in the VIP area, she could see them and it lit up the whole crowd as the colours changed to the beat. They were constantly out, even when VCR’s played so they could do costume changes and the cheers never stopped. Neither did the singing.
“Los Angeles, it’s been an absolute pleasure to be with you tonight,” Grace started out on the main stage, dressing in her outro gear to finish up the concert. “Thank you for being an amazing crowd, you’ve certainly outdid yourselves from last night. If you could put down your ARMY bombs for second,” Grace paused and watched with a fond smile as every single one dropped out of sight.
“How many of you out there are BTS fans?”
The whole crowd lit up again, screams were heard and then the screaming got louder the moment Dimple was played. Three male dancers joined her on stage, dressed similar to what the boys had worn and even though she was singing in Korean, she swore she could hear the crowd singing along.
By the time she got to Dangerous Woman, got to thank everyone and bow to the crowd, the screams had not stopped. They were still going as she climbed down the few steps off the stage, Sejin there with a bottle of water.
And he did something he rarely did.
He hugged her.
“I’m very proud of you,” he said as he let her go to wrap the dressing gown around her shoulders tightly. “We all are.”
It took awhile to get back to her hotel after removing her costumes, make up and washing her hair and then getting through the traffic. The moment she got through her hotel door, staff had left her lamps on for her and on the coffee table was a large bouquet of pink roses.
‘I’ll be seeing you soon
Jinnie x’

With Now and Then bringing out mixed reactions it’s had me thinking about how Paul’s handled John’s death and their Beatles legacy. He seems to be admired for the most part for the fondness and sentimentality he’s gone with while also being criticized as exploiting that sentimentality. It’s made me wonder how John might’ve carried on had Paul died. I understand it’s a bleak hypothetical and perhaps even offensive to some since I haven’t really seen discussions about it here but I really am curious. Would John have also promoted the Beatles legacy? I know he publicly shunned it as a thing of his past but I think there’s also been accounts of John privately collecting bootlegs and memorabilia. Would he have felt comfortable working on a song Paul left unfinished but given to him by Linda much in the same way Yoko did with Now and Then to Paul? I think John would’ve retreated once again into reclusiveness (a shame since he seemed very optimistic about the 80’s) but after a while I think he wouldn’t be able to help but take up the Beatles mantle just not sure how he would’ve gone about it.
My biggest LMAO about this is I one day want to write a fic about exactly this…
Without going into my specific planned plot (which mainly takes place in the 80s anyways), I think what should be kept in mind re:Paul's presentation of his and John's relationship, is that for the first ten years after John's death, Paul had a very different strategy. He only really started playing up the nostalgia of the Beatles in the 90s, with his concert tours and Anthology and, in my opinion, it was very much a reaction to him dealing with having been discarded as a musical has-been during the second half of the 80s and him deciding to grab the reins of the narrative surrounding him and John, which had been damaged by Jean Jacket "He didn't care about McCartney!"-types and by Goldman-type authors who over-villainized John, both to the point of rendering John's image unrecognizable to Paul. Plus, I think his continued insistence on emphasizing John's softer side is partially a reaction to the strong push-back against John that's picked up a lot in the past decade.
My point here being, how John would have dealt with all of this to me also depends on the public narrative that would have formed. In a way it's hard to imagine John getting sentimental and publicly grieving the way Paul does – on the other hand, this would have been equally hard to imagine (perhaps even harder to imagine) with 1980 Paul, who at the time was not in the habit of getting emotional during interviews at all! What I'm less sure of is how much it would matter to John what other people thought he thought about the Beatles – because I don't think his public indifference to his past would have been received well, in a scenario where Paul had recently been killed. Whether John would feel comfortable completing a Paul song is interesting; in a way, I'd imagine he'd be less keen on it, just based on his personality, but he was very proud of the Paul songs he helped finish off (like Michelle and We Can Work It Out) so that might embolden him to try. It would also probably depend which songs he had at his disposal, because I'd say he was pickier about music than Paul is.
I also think a very relevant factor in how Paul has behaved with respect to John's legacy was due to how Yoko behaved – so, in turn, I think a lot of this would depend on Linda. (which is a big point of the fic I'm planning lol – stay tuned for my extra long take on this dropping at..... some point.)

September 29 Day Countdown (10/29): 20180510 Livestream Interview with QQMusic’s 《乐见大牌》
Under the question “Who do you want to thank most?” Zhou Shen wrote Hu Minyan (Voice of China director who scouted him for three months), Na Ying, Gao-laoshi (who funded and produced his first album), Yin Yue (lyricist and producer of his first album), Qian Lei (composer of his first album), and the most important, Shengmi. Interviewer asks if he remembers when his first Shengmi came about.
Zhou Shen: (12:15) The first Shengmi… probably it was earlier [before my debut] when I was still singing online, they [fans] called themselves Puddings (布丁, based off his online name 卡布, or “Kabu”).
How the name Shengmi came about is quite funny actually—at first they thought of the name 深海鱼 (“shenhaiyu”, meaning deep-sea fish), and I said, “Oh! That sounds really good!” But then after a day, they left comments on weibo saying they changed their mind about shenhaiyu—they searched up deep sea fish on Baidu and found that all the pictures there were so ugly. (*laughs*) They had to consider their beauty value.
So the next name they thought of was 深井冰 (“shenjingbing,” referring to a well so deep the water in it has frozen, but also a homophone of 神经病, meaning neurotic). I said, “Oh! That sounds really good too!” (14:35) But then after a day, they said they changed their mind again—they said one day when they inevitably get into an argument with fans of another person, they [the fans of the other person] are going to write them all off as neurotic and they’ll be like “eh?” and have no way to argue against that. (Interviewer: They really thought this through *laughs*)
So finally they changed their name to 生米 (“shengmi”, meaning uncooked rice), and I thought this was really good too, because I have this habit where, before I sing, I have to eat rice or I won’t have any energy to sing. I think it’s incredibly fitting, since they’re the ones who continue to bolster me to be able to sing.
(17:00) Interviewer: Under “say one sentence to your fans,” you wrote- *points*
Zhou Shen: “Thank you for the sense of security I can feel you give me.” Because- [...] when you give someone who really lacks a sense of security—who really needs a sense of security—that sense of security, that feeling of warmth, there’s no words that can describe it. You feel like tearing up.
Interviewer: I remember at a previous interview, you said that sometimes you feel pretty unconfident.
ZS: Oh not just sometimes, all the time. (Interviewer: Do you feel having shengmi helps with that a bit?) They help a lot! Not only that, but they always—they’ll able to, for example- (*laughs*) If there’s 100 people at a support rally, they can make it sound like there’s 10,000 people. [At an event], you can clearly see the audience is full of [LED support banners for another celebrity], but then when they announce “Next, please welcome Zhou Shen,” I hear *literal ear-piercing shout* “ZHOU SHEN!!!!!” I feel like, wow. (*bursts into laughter*) It’s amazing, our shengmi—one is the equivalent of ten people. (*laughs*)
#zhou shen#周深#my translations#mine#zs 29#生米好伟大😤#check the notes later for the interview link#a ton of these interviews arent on yt but tumblr hates bilibili links for some reason#ive given up trying to get it into the actual post if its a bilibili interview im just gonna put it in the notes from now on#this interview is mainly promoting the first concert tour#and at the end the interviewer goes through a bunch of shenshen's milestones per say in his career and gets his thoughts on them#once u watch enough interviews u hear a lot of the same things over and over again so dw!!#i'll try to cover more points with other interviews#all the interviews in the countdown have been chosen with a lot of thought#choosing the best ones to cover a specific area or ones with unique stories that he doesnt tell in other interviews#especially ones that show his personality and his growth#as best as possible anyways asdfASKLDFASDF I DID NOT HAVE THAT MUCH TIME TO GO THROUGH INTERVIEWS AND ORGANIZE IT THEMATICALLY LOL#also this interview zs does a bunch of spontaneous 清唱#when he sings without music its so HHHHHH like u just get to appreciate his voice its SO ;;;;;;;;;;;;#the interviewer everytime he does it is like WAAHHH#the interviewer is all of us#at one point he sings da yu with the accompaniment and?? i wasnt looking at the screen at the time i literally thought it was a recording#this is why ppl tell him to spit out the CD he ate 😩#cats eat things they arent supposed to all the time right#my cat just vomited out his chew toy on my windowsill earlier#SDFASFD ANYWAYS#also u find out that shenshen doesnt have any leg hair in this interview?? he just doesnt grow leg hair????#ppl gonna stop believing ur human shenshen

an open letter to got7: the group i hate the most
i have thought a lot before laying out my thoughts here and i guess, there is no other place to put what has been inside my mind for quite some time now. i am a person who is very passionate with music. i love it in a way that i put a lot of dedication to support the people behind it. i never knew why but maybe music has been really vital to me that every artist has a significant story and impact in my life.
i have been into a wide range of music but i never really took kpop seriously. i am a casual listener of what is really trendy -- and that includes my knowledge of got7's just right when it was released. never really got into them but i just knew that there are people named bambam, mark, and jackson wang from the group and i have always heard that they are a nice group -- well, i admit that since i find 'just right' really nice. i never really gave in to the kpop madness and i see everyone in kpop the same. at times, i would see the trends about them. i even saw got7's keep spinning tour trending but just shrugged them off.
comes this pandemic, i suddenly wondered how the "just right boys" are doing. few things came into mind: "so that was years ago? do they still look like those kids? do they have bigger bodies now?! are they still active? what happened to them after just right?!" it hit me so hard that i never really knew anything about them right after that.
funny enough, my love for just right took me on another level of being a curious and clueless person at the same time. the first thing i searched was: "got7 just right 2020" but there is no such thing... i still tried to find the latest and i found the clips from the concerts, which was kinda sad because it seems like at that time, "just right" is not really a regular song on the setlist. i was amazed -- for so many things, if i am being honest, but mainly because of their appearance. how they are the same person singing just right? they don't look like those people singing on the wall clock and cereal?!
at first, i was just curious how did their glow up happened (please i can't be making this up lol) i am just very nosey with that and later on, i was watching interviews already and memorizing their names. as someone not really into kpop, i did not know there were such things as variety shows -- which are highly addictive if it is got7 you are watching. in a positive way, they just happen to be a different group and breed of people. i have never been so immersed into a group ever since i had it last with one direction. after being a directioner, it was hard for me to stan groups due to the anxiety and fear of them breaking up. i couldn't take more heartbreaks.
good news: new group to stan YAY
bad news: they just came back a month before i decided to stan them and now i don't know how long i have to wait since there's no pretty much updates from them after their promotions
but i was not really bothered. i spent all the months of waiting getting to know them and they served as company and a breather to me as it was hard entering college. they would make me feel things mostly. got7 is never boring. it was just always fun, pure of laugh and happiness, and at times, there were tears too. during the times when i feel like i don't know what got7 content to watch anymore, i would try out other groups especially when they are actively promoting. and this is where my hate for got7 started.
i would try to watch variety shows of other groups, but i would be easily distracted. seems like my attention span is suddenly short. these shows aim to be entertaining enough but i would rather watch bambam's hours long of vlives. how is this fair?! i would ask myself sometimes what did got7 do to me?!??! personally, i am never a fan of radio shows. i would love to read some of what was talked about though. but when it comes to got7, i will find myself asking: how is it finished already?! whenever i watch got7, time is always fast. why is everything done so already?! people say, time flies so fast when you are at your happy state. i hate got7 for making me happy in a blink. i wish it would last more than just a blink -- a lifetime is not a bad idea, right?
it was hard being a new fan as well but i was thankful to even experience breath of love: last piece. i would joke around during those times that maybe it was called last piece because they really meant it as their last, the ending of a story. jokes on me, it happened to be true. 2021 started really rough for us. i have never been that sad and devastated. still, i never stopped trusting got7. time will come.
[at this point i cannot type because i am feeling emotional]
after that, it was so hard to keep up with the activities of the individual members and i was most likely updated with bambam. but i would watch out the music releases, acting projects, and the like, of the members whenever i see and hear of them. it's great to see the growth of each members while they are also supporting each other in their own artistry. i am proud.
2022 came and my life has been changed forever. i know got7 would hold on to their words but the feeling of seeing it all come together just feels surreal. it is hard to put trust on people that do not even know me. many groups out there would go in their own ways and up until now, they have not even came back yet. it might be a simple thing for others, but for me to see, feel, and experience got7 fulfilling their own words is something so magical to me. i have been into different groups in between, but no matter how many times i invest on each of them, i hate to admit the reality that no one is like got7.
i hate got7 because they are the only group ever.
got7 is a home, a safe space, a breath of love.
there are so many things to thank each member for. but i would love to mention jaebeom's hard work for the group. sure, each of them had their own fair share but something about jb's leadership is just something so fascinating for me. right from the start, he never ever held back and has always been standing in front of got7 and ahgases, fighting for what we all truly deserve. you are one of a kind, jaebeom.
and to each of the members who have endured so far just like us, i admire you all. we all have a different kind of relationship and an incomparable patience towards each other. it is something i will always find amazing and aspire to have in my relationships. always.
one thing is for sure: i will never die without even seeing you in person. i will make sure of that. thank you for being a reason to look forward what tomorrow may give me. you make life bearable.
i love you endlessly.
until the last encore.

October 1973: Queen's first performance outside the UK
It happened in the tiny and desperately uncool city of Bad Godesberg in Germany, all of 50 people showed up, and not even Roger remembers anything about it.
Here's an article from a German newspaper about this mystery show (translation by me)
---
Queen at the Bonn Underground in 1973 - eyewitnesses remember
Suppose Queen came and hardly anyone showed up.
A needle in a haystack is nothing compared to this: Getting reliable information, let alone a photo, of the legendary Queen concert at the Bonn Underground is almost impossible. While visual material simply does not exist, we can only make assumptions about the circumstances surrounding the event. There is increasing evidence that the concert did not take place on Saturday, 13 October 1973, but on Thursday, 11 October. Some eyewitnesses remember hearing about the concert at school, for example, which speaks against the Saturday, when it would have been more likely for better-known bands with longer lead-times to play anyway - and Queen was anything but well-known in 1973. Queen's official website, on the other hand, states Tuesday, 16 October as the date - although the Underground was generally closed on Tuesdays, as old programmes reveal.
It is also a mystery why Queen performed in Bonn at all. One thing is certain: The band was on a promotional tour, mainly through the Benelux countries and France - some radio interviews and press appearances. The concert in Bonn is said to have been arranged at short notice at the instigation of the Cologne record company Emi Electrola. But apart from the Emi people, no one was there, apart from the estimated 50 spectators. Neither the press, radio nor television had been invited, which was usually the case with promotional tours. So what was the purpose of the gig? Queen already had a record contract.
Jürgen Künz also asks himself these questions. If only he had believed his uncle! But he didn't. He is still annoyed about that today. Because the freelance journalist from Cologne has set himself one goal: to publish a comprehensive book about the 1973 Queen concert in Bonn. Already 30 years ago, his uncle, who has since passed away and was a regular Underground visitor, had told him about it. And Künz, although a frenetic Queen fan at the time, didn't immediately pounce. It wasn't until 2001, at an event in Münster, that he was reminded of it again, and it hasn't let him go since.
Künz has also already done research at Emi. For him, one reason why there is no official information from archives about the Bonn concert could be that Queen broke with its management in 1975 - and many documents from that time have long since disappeared or are rotting in archives. "Archival material may also have been lost due to the Emi's later move to downtown Cologne," says Künz. Over time, he has collected around 400 mostly English-language magazine articles about Queen from the years '73 to '75. But apart from the aforementioned promotional trip to Europe, no information can be found there either.
Even the only official international Queen fan club has no information about this October evening in Bonn in 1973 beyond what is mentioned. Despite the fact that the presidents are very well connected. For the GA, they even contacted the two remaining members of the band's original line-up directly. But neither guitarist Brian May nor drummer Roger Taylor can remember. Only bassist John Deacon, who had already left in the mid-90s, had told Jürgen Künz in a 1982 interview: "It was a very small hall and we had to go through the audience to get on stage."
At that time, Künz worked for music magazines and travelled after Queen as a fan, even to Frankfurt for studio recordings. He had quite a close relationship with Brian May, was even invited to lunch by the guitarist once. Old contacts that no longer help him today. Nevertheless, he is hell-bent on publishing a book about the concert next spring. He would even like to present it in the former Underground - even though it is now a renovated apartment building.

[Photo Caption] This is what it must have looked like with Queen: Contemporary witness Dieter Bristrup (2nd from left) with his band "Die Leute" on stage at the Underground in the early 70s. Photo: Private
We were there
Dieter Bristrup was 17 years old at the time and remembers a "rather tense silence" at the concert. But the man from Wachtberg was already a Queen fan in 1973 and is a musician himself.
Helmut Hansen was 20 years old at the time and a regular at the Underground. "Actually, we just wanted to hang around a bit," he remembers. After the concert, the man from Bonn had a few beers with Queen.
Michael Beyer was 17 years old at the time and had no expectations of the concert. Today, the man from Bad Godesberg says of the band, "They looked pretty ragged back then."
Thomas Küpper was 15 at the time and remembers "skinny young gentlemen from England". However, the man from Rheinbach didn't go to the Underground because of Queen. Küpper was looking for a lady.
Wolfgang Ermert was 18 at the time and followed the concert, classic Underground style, on a mattress on the floor. The then girlfriend of the now Sankt Augustin resident lived around the corner from the Underground.

(interview) vogue korea april issue 2020 - perfect taemin
Tumblr media
1. superm was another chance for taemin’s ever-evolving performance to be showcased. i thought a lot about how to create synergy with these exceptional performers. to put it simply, i wanted us to come off as energetic. but these days i’ve had a change of heart. our identity is definitely important. rather than just working hard, for superm to show off their colours well we need to show our personalities; we should be seen as one team. to be able to formulate a solid and clear colour is our homework. that’s why it’s regrettable. we couldn’t come up with a novel choreography to carry our new identity. we tried a lot in the practice room. superm seems to have found its musical identity but hasn’t gotten a hold of its performance character yet. the stages are too vague. 2. now that you are finally promoting with your best friend kai in one group, you two must’ve shared your concerns. since this friend is someone who has a lot of passion and ambition, he talks about various things. for instance, this style is pretty good, this choreography is quite trendy. thanks to him i’ve learned a lot. he is also very knowledgeable about the latest ‘hottest’ genres. we talk about these things often and even watch videos together. kai gives off ‘popular’ vibes. compared to him, my interests are quite unusual. nowadays kai is interested in music while i am into science. 3. is it science fiction? these days we’ve been watching videos on the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics together. 4. what aspect of it interested you? originally i was very curious, after seeing a recommended video on youtube i learned about quantum mechanics for the first time. i couldn’t understand the explanation, even those who were explaining it said it was a difficult concept. that was very fascinating to me. kind of like magic.  5. are you reading books on the subject too? the subjects of the books i read are different (laughs). there’s a book that was published long ago called ‘regarding the pain of others.’ it is a pessimistic book that gathers contradictory opinions of people for instance ‘people find joy in the pain of others, it is instinctual.’ as a celebrity, there are times when you are criticized but there are also times when you receive comfort from people. rather than blaming others, while reading this book, i began to think ‘people are like that, at most i shouldn’t behave like them.’ my interests are all over the place. 6. what makes you and kai click? we converse well. our opinions almost never clash and we respect each other. moreover, we fully understand our own roles in superm. 7. what position do you hold in superm? since i can’t ask if it’s the main dancer. in pictures and interviews, i’m the center. baekhyun hyung is the leader (laughs). 8. when the conversation wasn’t flowing well during the talkshow interview, i saw you neatly concluding it.  that does happen. nct and wayv are still in the learning phase. that’s why i first listen to all of their thoughts during interviews then flesh it out with details later. 9. compared to when you set out abroad as shinee then promoting overseas as superm now, the status of k-pop has changed. looking at how superm was able to start off with an arena tour in the us and europe made me feel that k-pop is a ‘hot’ topic. in the past, we’d use venues of this scale for smtown concerts. even if you promote mainly in asia, seeing the audience section will make you realise the perception of k-pop has changed. 10. though k-pop’s scope has expanded and diversified, its definition has become simple. what are your concerns? my first concern is language. after i was able to communicate via language during my japanese activities, there were so many advantages. though each country overseas has its own language, i felt that i needed to learn english first. there are many international fans who want to experience the chemistry between our members, they’d feel much closer to us if we communicated using (a common) language. k-pop isn’t one dimensional. it’s not only about the music, there is music video, style, etc. included. people would make dance covers in the past, now they even emulate the styling. all of this is korean pop culture. 11. superm were on the ellen degeneres show and jimmy kimmel live. before we went on the ellen show we really rehearsed the interview a lot. america’s atmosphere is different so you receive questions that are never asked in korea. they don’t disclose the questions in advance either. we were also worried because the emcee could ad-lib. we came up with the most probable questions and practiced, we also received lessons from american comedians. compared to that, we went on jimmy kimmel live without any prep. 12. what went according to plan and what didn’t? the questions were not as intense as expected, ellen was well aware about k-pop culture so it went smoothly. 13. is there a dance genre you’re into these days? contemporary, lyrical hiphop, in the future as superm i think i’ll be able to show more, not the kind of dancing that you do after learning a given choreography but the kind that is full of emotions. it’s about giving meaning to your gestures. it isn’t out yet but my concert vcr features lyrical hiphop. in it i think i’m dancing alone with a giant full moon as my backdrop but get confused when there are two of us, either it’s another person or a shadow. a choreographer with a body type similar to mine had to dress in all black to come across as my shadow. i wore an oriental outfit with smokey makeup. 14. how do you usually come up with your ideas? i get inspired by the choreographers and creative directors. i imagine it as we converse then the idea develops. 15. was there a time you were inspired by fashion? of course. art begins with the five senses. what you see with your eyes, the things you can feel, clothes, food, perfume, music that you listen to are all sources of inspiration. i create private accounts to follow fashion brands. 16. having debuted at the age of 16, you are still young but your work experience has been long. i was in certain situations because of this. it doesn’t happen as often now but even in my early 20s, i completely belonged to the senior category at broadcasting stations. they are my juniors but many of them are also hyungs, i’m their senior but i’m also the youngest. now there are even staff members who are younger than me. they’re too formal with me (laughs). 17. are there juniors that ask you for advice or help? the superm members! especially ten, he is very curious. when we come out of a company meeting, he’ll get surprised and say “wow, hyung everything you said was right.” i even hear things like ‘veteran’ and ‘seer.’ apparently my predictions come true. but i try not to advise them as much. taking the initiative to say something feels overwhelming. 18. born in 1993 between millennials and gen z, do you share any characteristics with those in your age bracket? we’ve picked out a few of their traits. the first one is ‘they don’t eat fast food.’ me too! i took care of my health well ever since i started out with shinee. i was brainwashed from home to avoid foods that harmed the body. not even ramyeon, snacks were also banned. and just like that in my 20s i started carrying out the regime on my own. it’s become a habit to look after my health ever since i moved out. i always eat things that are good for my body, if the hyungs are taking vitamins, i’d ask for one too. 19. i suddenly recall a variety show where you were the only one who skipped the sauce and ate the meat on its own! one should not eat irritable foods. my mother’s words. 20. how about ‘they watch videos on youtube rather than tv. even the ads don’t particularly bother them.’ that’s right. i watch youtube more often than tv, while watching the ads i'd even marvel at their production quality. i’ve signed up for the premium package now so i don’t see the ads anymore. 21. ‘marrying or wanting to buy their own house.’ i currently live alone and i have no interest in decking out my house. at first, i didn’t think like that but a month later my interest dissipated. i’m lazy. it’s not like my house is for others to see, i’m fine with the incomplete feeling for now. 22. and finally ‘they avoid investing in financial companies.’ i don’t do that. my parents manage that, if there’s a good tip i’ll just let them know.  23. hiphop musicians tend to express their success through music. as an idol musician how have you been using the wealth you accumulated all these years? i invest in food instead of saving up (laughs). honestly, i don’t spend much. i don’t have anything i want. though i do spend on others a lot. 24. what kind of household did you grow up in? what gifts did you inherit from your family as a musician? i inherited my body type. all of my cousins have model-like physiques, they’re taller and slimmer than me. my mother sings well. my father plays instruments as a hobby. oh, and my paternal aunt used to be a ballerina. so perhaps i inherited such genes? 25. you’ve been doing the same thing for more than 10 years. what is the purpose behind creating music and showcasing it? in the past, i would think i should do well, i need to be number one, these days i’ve become ambitious for other aspects. i take pride in the fact that my work supplies others with positive energy. i feel a sense of accomplishment when fans like my music, i want to make them as happy as i am. everyone’s profession is different but i hope this synergy gained from mutual dependence leaves a good impression. 26. are you still composing songs? i used to but now i only participate in lyric writing. it differs with each song, at times the lyrics are emotional or talk about abstract love. it seems like my next solo album will include a song i wrote the lyrics to. sometimes songs composed by overseas composers might prove too difficult for the general public to understand. so i participate a lot in the arrangement or mixing phase. i point out the parts that should be added to the composition and those that are unneeded. teacher lee soo man does give advice but it often feels like i do the producing of my own solo album. 27. taemin’s originality is the clearest when he promotes as a solo artist. which song has best represented your identity? i worked hard on all of them but there was a turning point. at first there was ‘danger’ then ‘press your number’ was a conceptual performance, the transition to ‘move’ turned out well. i wanted to break out from the typical choreography routine and create my own identity, the resulting performances were ‘move’ and ‘want.’ my next solo album is again different. i’ve been making a lot of changes these days. 28. you seem to have high standards when it comes to composing music. was there ever an occasion where you absolutely refused to compromise and gave others a hard time? everyone is used to it (laughs). it’s something i learned from the head manager hyung who’s been with me since debut. the belief that ‘there is nothing that can’t be done. there is no such thing as impossible.’ another team manager hyung would tell me ‘you remind me of our head’ (laughs). honestly, the staff around me work beyond their given roles and with affection. normally work timings are from 9 to 7, they stay back till 10-11 pm for me. they don’t hold it against me, and when things do well, they too feel a sense of fulfillment together with me. 29. the new unreleased song must be quite different from the original then.  there are already 12 versions of the song. when i thought we were somewhat done, we recently started arranging it again (laughs). 30. you hold your body to specific standards for the best performance outcome. i don’t ‘bulk up.’ previously, i used to work out when i ate a lot but my body would feel weighed down, it wasn’t what i wanted. if i gain a lot of muscles or become thick, it hampers my dancing form. that’s why i don’t put on weight. i train my stamina and strength and avoid bulking up my shoulders and arms. 31. by the way, do you do neck exercises as well? i was touched looking at your long neck in the vogue photoshoot. i had been noticing this too, now i know the reason! i think it’s because i dance. a lot of resistance goes into the neck when you dance. our head is the heaviest and it’s the neck that supports it. it goes away when i rest for a few days. we’re shooting amidst the superm tour maybe that’s why it looks thicker now.  32. an editor who has been watching you closely for a long time said that you’ve become extroverted. could it be that experience and relationships have made you comfortable and secure? i’ve lowered my guard. i couldn’t reveal my current self to others before. as a child i used to be so introverted that i’d hide behind my mother when strangers would get into the elevator. i changed with time.  33. is your ever-present smile a product of your personality or just business decorum? i’m always smiling. i even laugh at things other people don’t find funny (laughs). 34. shinee members are currently serving in the army. when they’re on break what kind of advice or nagging do they subject you to? i wish they would do that. we have a group chat on kakaotalk and i always revive it by asking “what’s up” “happy new year.” but as soon as the conversation picks up they only talk about the army. when i inform them about an issue at the company they say “really?” then it’s military talk again. when i feel left out and tell them to stop, they reply with “you’ll understand when you get here.” 35. in your career as a musician, when do you feel the best? when it’s time to reveal all that i’ve been preparing for so long! it feels different from finishing it. the first stage after debuting, shinee’s first concert, performing at tokyo dome, receiving the award... these are the moments that come to mind. 36. watching taemin grow for the past decade has been a huge source of strength. what are your dreams now? there are many. first of all, once shinee comes back again, i want the entire group to give off a feeling of revival. usually after getting discharged, it’s hard to keep up with the next generation, i want to avoid that. i’ve imagined it all when the shinee members return. second, i want to perform a lot on various stages as a solo artist. superm topped the billboard 200 album chart, it’d be nice to enter the top 10 on the hot 100 digital chart as well.  37. you are really talented at setting goals. i’ve gotten greedier. it’s just not for myself but i want to do it for the fans and members, even the staff. they become my driving force. i really am lucky. everybody works hard but i even get the recognition for it. come to think of it, i was given many opportunities and i worked hard to make the most of them, i’m really happy my efforts paid off in the end. i’m surrounded by good people. shinee, superm, many people fill in the gaps for me that i can’t solve on my own. 38. superm’s concert title is ‘we are the future.’ when you hear the word ‘future’ what are you reminded of? first, it’s h.o.t. (laughs). future-oriented things come to mind like artificial intelligence, drones, 3d hologram concerts. then again, in the future, though people might be able to watch concerts through holograms, i think humans will not give up on the tasks they themselves can do. my work will still be the same in the future. 39. the reason you don’t write anything on instagram. i don’t have anything to say yet (laughs). i don’t know if i should make my instagram cool or approachable. when fretting between writing a caption or using an emoticon, i just end up leaving it blank. actually i signed up after my manager hyung suggested that instagram would be good. so i’ve made one but i still don’t know what to upload. i get teased by the people around me for putting up selfies. i even took lots of pictures especially for instagram but... 40. did you not post the pictures? the point of instagram is real-time communication. is that so! i didn’t know (laughs).

Homophobia and misogyny; A star, at what cost?
What do you suffer when you are a woman and/or part of the LGBT + community? How are the artists' lives when cameras are turned off? What is closeting and on what is based? What measures are carried out when the artist becomes ill or injured a few days from a concert or in the middle of a tour?
I decided to do some research on this topic because, over the years, I began to
develop some interest in this music industry, and discover more and more
new artists and researching their lives and/or careers one begins to realize that the life we see of artists is not always real, that their partners are not always real and that behind successful careers, there is a past where the abuse of power, manipulation, and exploitation are present.
On this subject and without prior research, I have an understanding of closeting
(keep a queer artist in the closet) and the methods of this, how far can come and it can last until some person within the homosexual couple dies or simply decides to give up their musical career.
Also, how women are manipulated in this industry to do what their managers (usually older men) want it, and if they refuse, they threatens to end their careers (a great artist who suffered this kind of threat was Lady Gaga), or how managers go to extreme measures not to lose money when your artists are unable to perform for you public.
Now, with the introduction being made, let’s start!
In order to develop this work, information, testimonials from
artists, and documentaries. Interviews will also be analysed, videos will be searched and they will conduct surveys. I also made an interview, but their identity will remain anonymous.
To begin developing this research, I will first proceed to explain:
What is closeting?
Closeting is a method of oppression by labels or managements (large
companies dedicated to the world of entertainment that control what they should or should not
show the artists they work with). These seek to obtain the greatest
Possible benefits when promoting and selling their products (the artists).
This term, closeting, began in the area of acting, where Hollywood
began to include ''morality clauses '' in contracts, forcing actors and
Queer actresses hide their sexual orientations through fake relationships with the opposite sex.
This quickly reached the music industry, where record labels, as long as generate more money, began to sell the idea of a relationship possibility between fan-artist; For example, if a male artist has as a fanbase mainly adolescent women, as a marketing strategy they will use this for these fans to fantasize about their idol, but if he was dating a man and was openly gay (adding the possibility of a fan base mostly homophobic), no one would like that idea, so fans and income of companies representing the artist would decline.
Some artists who came out of the closet spoke about the industry and homophobia.
A well-known case is that of Ricky Martin; Some people think ‘’ He came out of the
closet, nobody stopped him '', but the singer expressed: "I grew up in a culture that
He said that my feelings were horrible [...] And if you add to that that I was, You know, like a teenage idol, a sex symbol "," Everyone told me that It was going to be the end of my career and it was extremely painful for me. '' Might be thought of as manipulation through guilt and fear.
Tumblr media
Other confirmed cases of closeting include Elton John, who claimed to be heterosexual early in his career and even married a woman
to cover the fact that he was gay, and Lance Bass' case (NSYNC), who came out in 2006 and said the only thing executives care about is generating money with the target audience, just as it was impossible to come out of the closet being in a boyband, since in the late 90s (when his band came to the stardom), the band's sales depended on the female adolescent audience.
Other cases are not currently confirmed, but that show signs of a closeting situation since they tend to be a series of similar situations; The
long-term relationships with people of the opposite sex that often develop similarly in all cases of closeting or even the use of Polari (An example of this is Louis Tomlinson). Polari is a kind of jargon that makes a '' mix '' of words in different languages and which today is known as how only homosexual people communicated in previous decades so that they would not be incarcerated.
Tumblr media
As previously mentioned, Louis Tomlinson is an artist who began his career in the worldwide known boy band ''One Direction''.
At the beginning of the band, speculations were made about a relationship with his bandmate Harry Styles
But after some time of strong rumours that even the artists were aware of, Tomlinson began a long-term relationship with Eleonor Calder, a person who was outside of the entertainment industry (later became an influencer) but is related to the management to which this artist belonged. Tomlinson also explained in an interview that ''people wouldn't like the idea of him and Harry being together, they would like the idea of Harry and them''.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2015, Tomlinson announced his fatherhood to a woman he met at a bar, and many influencers, fans, and celebrities commented that they thought he was homosexual and nobody believed in this situation. He was even tried to be given a homophobic image to silence speculations about his sexuality, which only ended up ruining his image.
The artist has a triangle tattooed on his Achilles heel, a symbol that comes from the Holocaust, where homosexual men were marked with an upside-down pink triangle (lesbians were marked with a black triangle and gay Jews were marked with yellow and pink triangles layered to look like a star of David).
MISOGYNY
LADY GAGA
REBECCA FERGUSON
Many in the LGBT community have taken up this symbol, some putting the
triangle with the base down and wearing it for pride.
In relation to misogyny in the industry, some artists have spoken publicly about how is like to be a woman in the industry.
An example is ‘’ Lady Gaga ’’, who suffered sexual assault of her at the age of nineteen by a music producer since she was threatened that her career would be ruined if she did not do what the producers wanted.
INTERVIEW
Another cause of an artist who recently started a case against various producers is Rebecca Ferguson, a star of The X factor; The artist denounced and shared cases of physical violence against artists by managers, sexual abuse, grooming (when someone builds a trusting relationship with someone to be able to manipulate, exploit and/or abuse them) to young artists confused about their sexuality and use of drugs to maintain them ‘’ Working ’’ in case of injury or illness, among other things.
All the statements began months ago via Twitter, some of these
they expose: ‘’ The trauma of collapsing and that no one cared if I lived or died! The trauma of losing a baby, the trauma of being seen solely as a product to make money and realize what I've been through, the recognition of how abusive was what others and I went through ''
Also: ‘’ Memories of a collapse and my head trapped in an elevator and opening and closing repeatedly, and people's only concern was whether I would do my next interview! And people wonder why I campaign so aggressively! Many artists are dealing with very real trauma.
Tumblr media
This interview is with a music publicist, who kindly accepted to answer some questions (some others this person rather not to). Due to covid, this isn’t recorded, couldn’t meet this person. This isn’t a long interview.
I- Have you ever worked with a closeted artist?
MP- Yes, I have worked with a lot of LGBTQ+ artists that are in the closet. It’s great to hear their stories and be able to relate and help get them through these things.
I- How artists react when they discover they need to lie about a relationship or need to say something that involves minor aged kids? Can you explain a little bit if you witnessed something like this?
MP- No answer
I- Are labels/managers allowed to involve minor aged kids?
MP - It depends on what exactly is the situation.
I- Do managers approve/disapprove of interviews? If they are not approved, must they be re-recorded?
MP- Managers aren’t typically involved in interviews. That is mostly a publicist/PR who is in charge of things like that.
CONCLUSION
Bibliography:
In conclusion, I think that with people who speak out like Rebecca Ferguson or
other artists, the music industry can change for the better. Those who
began their careers were naïve young people who wanted to be stars, but without knowing what they were getting into, but if these cases come to light, those young people who today they are looking for an opportunity in the industry they can earn better experiences and not trauma; Something that was supposed to be ‘’cool’’ for some ended up either being full of bad experiences or not being able to be publicly yourself or being pressured to give in to what a manager
wants.

Music Soulmate AU
I basically just rewrote this from Andrew’s POV
The first time Andrew hears what is soulmate is listening to he is in juvie.
In juvie they encourage troubled youths to listen to music. He has a radio and “free” access to a computer. But the music radios pass on is not exactly of his liking. And it’s not like he can surf the internet however he likes, not when the internet is controlled and censored.
To be honest, he’d never even thought he might enjoy music before his soulmate. His soulmate has good music taste.
Thanks to Pig Higgs he has landed in a juvie with plenty of rehabilitation programmes. He’d gladly avoid joining any of them, but his counsellor made it compulsory.
And so Andrew choses the music programme. That’s how he larns to play the guitar- just so he can play the songs his soulmate listens to.
It’s only when he gets out of juvie that he finally finds out the names of the bands and musicians his soulmate listens to. He buys their cds, downloads their songs, goes to their concerts and listens to them 24/7.
Out of juvie he also finds out that he has a twin brother who plays the drums and a cousin who plays the piano. And what is he even supposed to do with a brother he knows nothing about but start playing music together?
At first it’s mainly covers. Aaron sets the rhythm and Andrew strums his guitar. It’s quiet and slow, like their uneasy friendship. The more they get comfortable with each other the better they play together.
It’s only when their cousin Nicky walks into them playing an instrumental cover of The Ghost of You by MCR that he decides to join them. Nicky ditches his piano, buys a keybord and becomes an official member of their unofficial band.
The first time Andrew does the vocals of one of their covers, both Nicky and Aaron hit the wrong notes and then stop playing altogether, staring at Andrew with their mouths wide open.
It’s Aaron who breaks the silence with a screeched “you’ve always known how to sing LIKE THAT and you’ve never done it before?”. Andrew just shrugs, but from that moment on he becomes the designated singer.
Their unofficial band becomes official when Kevin Day joins the line up. He plays the bass, but most importantly he writes songs. And good damn songs. Plus his father Wymack owns an independent music label and he signs them.
Even with a contract in their pocket, Andrew and his band (now called The Foxhole, who even knows why, it was Nicky’s idea) have to cut their teeth. They slowly work up the ladder one little concert after the other. It is exhausting.
Andrew hadn’t signed up for crazied fans when he’d started playing the guitar with his brother in the attempt of making up for 14 years of being convinced they both were alone in this world. But at least the fans are growing the more and more numerous.
Last week they filled a small arena with 5 thousand people in LA. The posters outside the venue said “The Foxhole, SOLD OUT.” After the show Wymack had smiled proudly and told them that the recording studio would be booked for them all month long.
And that. That is one hell of a month. Andrew loses count of how many times he thinks about breaking Kevin’s hand.
But through the caos, the deadlines, and the mind-numbing recording sessions, Andrew has - well Andrew doesn’t have his soulmate. Not with him anyway. But he has a good playlist to come back to when he gets home.
He knows at what time his soulmate turns on his mp3 player. And every evening at 8pm Andrew takes one hour just for himself, sits on the sofa and religiously listens to the playlist his soulmate is playing. It’s a habit he took up in juvie, a habit he would never give up to.
The Foxhole’s first album jumps straight to the first position of the Alternative Music chart. Right on the day it comes out.
When they get the news Nicky is so ecstatic he jumps on the sofa like a child. Aaron hugs his girlfriend, lifts her up and makes her spin in the kitchen as they laugh and laugh and laugh. Kevin just smiles, which is quite shocking per se.
Andrew’s heart skips a beat only when at 8pm he hears his soulmate listening to The Foxhole’s album. And at that, just at that, his lips slowly curl up into a smile.
After that, Andrew’s life gets the more and more chaotic. It’s shows and interviews and world tours. It’s trying to set an alarm at 8pm even when he barely has time to breathe just to listen to a couple of songs from his soulmate’s evening music session.
It’s waking up at 5am when in Paris and cursing the European tour. And then it’s missing it. Missing it when he crashes on the couch and his meds take too much out of him. It’s having The Foxhole’s concerts set at 8pm.
It’s Andrew secretly hoping his soulmate listens to his concerts because Andrew can’t listen to his playlists. It’s Andrew wishing he’d stop hoping his soulmate would come find him after a concert.
Andrew is taken off his court-mandated meds during the pause between their last tour and the new album. The drug-induced mania wears off, leaving Andrew alone, parsing through the white noise in his brain and the thoughts that won’t leave him alone. Never never never.
One night he’s so drained out by the effort of overcoming his addiction and getting used to the new way is brain is wired, he falls asleep on the sofa before 8pm.
He wakes up at 2am, angry and frustrated and pissed off he’s missed his soulmate’s daily playlist. And if Andrew, frustrated beyond words, picks up his guitar and starts trying to put his thoughts into notes nobody has to know.
It’s not like Kevin will judge if he finds out. Kevin himself started composing to fight his own alcoholism.
But nobody really has to know. Not even when Andrew makes a habit of it. Picking up his guitar and humming along with the music he plays- trying to figure out what sounds right and what doesn’t. What eases the pressure on his skull, what makes his head hurt even more.
Nobody has to know, but he kinds of forgets that his soulmate *does* know. And Andrew tries so hard not to react. But when in the morning he hears his soulmate singing along to his new song, Andrew finds himself smiling. Andrew is sooo fucked.
Let’s not even talk about the somersaults his stomach makes when his soulmate starts playing awful upbeat songs whenever Andrew stops composing. He hates those songs, thanks but no thanks.
But his soulmate annoyingly persists pestering him with happy songs. And Andrew gets what his soulmate is doing, he knows his soulmate is doing his best to show him he likes what he’s doing, he gets it, he’s just not ready to admit it to himself.
He ends up telling Aaron. And it’s just because he needs to have someone else play with him. Just to test out a few things. Not because it’s Aaron.
Aaron who disgustingly smiles at him when Andrew shows him what he has composed. Aaron who knows he has a soulmate. Aaron who asks “it’s him isn’t it?” when Andrew puts his hands in his hair because his soulmate is listening to one of his sickening upbeat songs.
Aaron who tells Kevin. Fuck you Aaron.
Andrew knows Kevin would happily crack his head open if he didn’t need a singer and guitarist. He hears him mutter something like “that fucker knew how to compose and he never said anything before”.
They end up rehearsing the song together. First it’s just Aaron and Andrew showing Kevin and Nicky the ropes, then it’s the whole band. And if the smile on Kevin’s lips is any indication, the song is good. Damn good.
They end up including it in the new album. And Andrew is okay with it. But then Wymack hears it and decides it’s going to be the single paving the way for the album. Andrew doesn’t want to, it’s *his* song, it’s something he’d come to share with his soulmate and his soulmate alone.
He was happy with it becoming part of the album. He had anticipated how it’d feel like to hear his soulmate listening to their album and recognising the song. He had not anticipated the song becoming mainstream.
But he says yes to Wymack. He owes him that much. He still decides to do things his own way.
The Foxhole are supposed to debut the song during the first concert of their promotional tour. It’s Kevin who usually does the talking, but before he can start presenting the new single Andrew snatches the mic.
He feels Kevin’s eyes drill holes in his head when he says why he wrote the song, why he recorded it and- and that’s all because he has an annoying soulmate who supports him. And when he finishes Aaron is smiling (fuck you Aaron) and Nicky is staring at him with his mouth open.
If the screams and the yells and the choruses asking for an encore are any indication, the crowd loves the song. Andrew doesn’t care. His head is screaming “now he knows now he know now he knows”. And who would ever want to have anything to do with him. He’s fucked up. Oh he’s fucked it all up.
He grits his teeth through the concert, trying to prevent the walls in his head from crumbling down right in front of thousands of people. He regrets saying it but he misses his meds. They made this part easier, they didn’t let him dwell and spiral down into chaos.
When the show finishes he knows what’s waiting for him. A wall of fans screaming to his face that they are his soulmate- Aaron had warned him about it when Andrew had told him what he’d planned on doing.
He locks the door of his changing room and tires to breathe through the panic choking him. Just a few more minutes and then he’ll get out, face the fans and the media and the mess. He did this to himself. Just a few more minutes. Just a few more minutes- but the door of his changing room is thrown wide open. The intruder closes it back behind his back and presses his body against it to keep the door shut.
Andrew barely manages to say “What the fuck?”
“Lock picks!” the guy throws them a him. Andrew effortlessly catches them one-handed. The intruder flashes him a smile so bright it can’t be real. Just like the red curls and the blue eyes and everything else about him. Who the fuck is this man?
As if he’s reading into his mind, he says “Don’t worry your bodyguards will be here in a sec.” Another smile.
Andrew barely has time to open his mouth and reply when the bodyguards come crashing into Andrew’s changing room. And right then the stranger says: “By the way, I’m Neil and in the morning you always listen to Welcome to the Black Parade. Nice to meet you soulmate.”

Chapter Eight: Be Still
Tumblr media
Would You Call That Love
Pairing: Chris Evans x Raina Morrison (OC)
Rating: PG to PG-13 (Might be 18+ for some chapters)
Story Summary: There was always that one person Chris Evans tended to turn to when he was not in a committed relationship, Raina Morrison. He could confide in her about things going on in his life that he did not feel comfortable talking to his family or close friends about. Chris and Raina were able to establish a way to openly communicate with one another, but also being respectful of the other’s time and needs. It was the only constant “relationship” he had, but without all the nonsense of trying to build a life together. A “friends with benefits” situation. However, what happens when Chris starts rethinking his “relationship” with Raina and if either are willing to pursue something more?
Chapter Summary: Raina and Chris are having trouble dealing with their time apart. Long-distance relationships suck.
Chapter Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Word Count: 2,258
Author’s Note: I was having trouble with this chapter. I had to end up rewriting it because I was not feeling the first draft.
Italics represent flashback conversations.
Sadly, I do not know Chris Evans or anyone in his family, and this is just a fictional take on his life. I do not permit this fic to be reposted on other platforms.

Three months. That is how long Raina and Chris had been apart. She continued to star in the Broadway version of Moulin Rouge as Satine. Shows were constantly selling out. Reviews were acclaimed. Unfortunately, Raina was feeling bored. The same routine was beginning to annoy her. She didn't like that there was no room to change things up. Being in a Broadway show was vastly different from her concerts. Raina knew it would be.
Jerry had warned Raina that Broadway was a whole different ballgame than what she was used to or experienced. "You won't be able to change or add things from show to show. It is more rigorous than what you are used to, kid," Raina remembered Jerry telling her one day before she accepted the role.
Raina wanted a challenge. She wanted to do something different. There were times where Raina felt stagnant in her career. Plus, Raina was now considered an aging pop star, so she had to begin the process of branching out into different fields of entertainment.
"You should do the voice," Jerry would always suggest, which Raina repetitively turned down. It wasn't that Raina looked down on voice competition shows. She didn't want to open that door to be on television every week for months on end. She was a performer, not a judge.
Again, three months. Three months since Raina had physically seen her boyfriend. They talked on the phone and skyped regularly, but it was not the same as being in the same room. She missed Chris terribly. And he missed her.
Chris had been pretty busy himself, first having to take Dodger back to Boston before getting ready to go to Toronto. With Raina's busy schedule, she would not have been able to take care of the canine. For a week and a half, Chris would attend the Toronto Film Festival to promote the movie Knives Out. Raina wished she could have gone with him. Chris wished she could have gone with him.
After the film festival, Chris didn't have much downtime. He rushed into working on A Starting Point with Mark to outline the website and coordinate interviews with politicians.
Raina made it a point to steer clear of conversations about ASP. Truthfully, she didn't find the idea appealing or exciting. Yes, Americans needed to be informed about certain aspects of politics and important issues. But many outlets already offered what Chris and Mark were trying to do. She asked Chris one time what made ASP different from the others. She was surprised that he wasn't quite able to come up with a sufficient answer. Raina knew Chris meant well.
"Chris," she spoke up one day before he left the City, "You know I will never bullshit you, and I won't ever blow smoke up your ass. That has never been the kind of friendship we had. Nor is it how we want our intimate relationship to go."
He looked at Raina and told her to go on. "Sometimes, I have noticed, is that you tend not to be able to look outside of your privilege, Chris. You know what I am saying?"
Chris turned to his girlfriend. He was confused about where she was getting at. "No. What are you saying?"
Raina sighed. She could tell Chris was on the verge of getting defensive. "Nothing," she said, throwing her hands up in defeat. "Look, let's no…argue about…stupid stuff, okay." Raina pleaded and walked up to Chris to put her arms around him.
He reciprocated by doing the same. Leaning in, Chris captured Raina's lips. "I don't want to argue either. Especially not before I have to leave," he whispered in her ear.
There would times when Raina would look back on that exchange between her and Chris. She felt weird about how Chris became so defensive. Yeah, she could have worded things better; however, why should she?
Truthfully, Chris was a privileged white male. If he took the time to recognize his privileges, it would make him a better ally to those who represent underprivileged groups. Raina was worried about any possible backlash Chris could face with a project like AS, which was not what she wanted for him. She understood that this was a passion project for Chris and Mark as well. Raina only wanted Chris to make sure that everything was in order and that nothing would be thrown at him unexpectedly. She knew Chris wasn't able to take criticism very well, even when it was constructive, mainly when it came to projects he was enthusiastic about; she understood as she was the same way.
With their time apart, Chris had to miss her birthday, October 19. Chris made sure to send Raina an enormous flower arrangement he could find, along with an array of goodies from Dylan's Candy Bar store. Chris knew the gifts would something Raina would appreciate. However, he still felt guilty that he was not with her to celebrate her birthday in person.
"Hey, birthday girl," Chris greeted Raina through skype on the day of her birthday. He laughed when he saw that she was holding the cupcake pillow he got her.
"I love it!" she exclaimed happily. "And I love my three-tier candy cake. I can't believe you got me that," Raina pointed out as she adjusted the laptop camera to show Chris the candy cake. "I won't be able to eat all of that."
"Yeah, you will," he laughed.
"I miss you," Raina said to Chris. "I didn't think being away from you would be this hard."
Chris sighed, "I miss you, too, sweetheart. But we'll see each other for Christmas, right?"
"Yes, of course. I made sure to schedule that time off. I still plan to come up to Concord for Christmas. My dad has already made plans with Diane for not only Christmas but Thanksgiving as well. So he is taken care of," Raina revealed. "Speaking of Thanksgiving, what are you doing?"
Shifting in his seat, Chris shared that he would spend it in Concord with his family. He noticed the slight disappointment on Raina's face and shift in her demeanor. "You don't want to come here and spend the holiday with me?" she asked solemnly. She didn't want to press on the issue but wanted to hear Chris's reason.
Raina understood that Chris always liked to spend the holidays with his family, but deep down, she hoped he would change it up this year. "It's just been two and a half months since we saw each other," Raina began but stopped. The last thing she wanted to do was to make Chris feel guilty. "Do you have any time off before then?"
"Like you, I'm completely booked up until Christmas. Mark and I are still working on the website for A Starting Point for the rest of October, then when November comes around, it is all press for Knives Out and premiers. Trust me; I would rather be with you than have to do press junkets or walk red carpets," Chris acknowledged.
Raina grabbed a piece of candy from her three-tier candy cake. She just sat back in her chair, not looking at the computer screen. Raina focused on the candy. She didn't want to look at Chris because if she did, tears would begin to form. For some reason, missing Chris and wanting to be with him felt like the equivalent of homesickness. It was a feeling she had never experienced when it came to another human being. Even when she was a teenager touring across the world, she never felt homesick. Her relationship with Chris brought along a whole new set of feelings for Raina, and part of it scared her.
She suddenly asked herself, 'Am I becoming too dependent on Chris?' The last thing Raina wanted to be, was co-dependent.
Raina shook her head and sat up in her chair. She looked at Chris and smiled. "I'm sorry. I know you're busy. I don't mean to pressure you or make you feel bad."
The two continued to talk a bit longer until Chris noticed Raina yawning. "Okay, sweetheart, I will let you get to bed."
"No, I can still talk. It's early," Raina whined like a child.
"It's a quarter after eleven, and that is now your fourth yawn in the last fifteen minutes," he pointed out. "You need to get to bed."
Raina sighed, "Alright, boss. I'll get to bed. Talk to you later or when either one of us is available. Bye, honey. Love you."
"Love you, too. Bye."
Tumblr media
Thanksgiving rolled around faster than Chris expected. Time flies when one is busy. He continued to talk to Raina via phone or skype. However, Chris was also beginning to get frustrated at their time apart. Currently, he was home, sitting in his living room with his brother and brother-in-law, watching a football game between the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys while his mom and sisters prepared dinner. Lisa would poke her head from the kitchen, asking the boys for help from time to time. His niece and nephew were running around playing with Dodger, who appeared to love the attention.
It was almost perfect, except one person was missing. Raina. He called her earlier that day. She shared that she was celebrating Thanksgiving, Chandler Bing style, with some of the Moulin Rouge cast.
"What the Hell is Thanksgiving, Chandler Bing style?" Chris asked, confused.
"Damnit, watch friends, Christopher," Raina scolded teasingly. "Chandler Bing doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving. Because that was the day his parents told him that they were getting divorced. So, instead of all the turkey fixings and stuffing, we have grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, and a family-size bag of Funyuns as an appetizer. We have lots of booze, so don't worry. Oh, and pumpkin cheesecake. Good times, right."
Chris only laughed. "You're living the dream. I don't think what Ma is making could compare."
"Just be sure to tell her to make her spaghetti for Christmas dinner. Or at least make a small pot of it just for me, okay."
"She's planning to, so don't worry. What are you watching? I hear gunfire," Chris enquired.
"I'm watching my husband, Tommy Shelby, shoot at the Italians," Raina informed as she watched Peaky Blinders. "I love Tommy Shelby. I tell you, Chris, if Tommy Shelby showed up at my door asking me to marry him, I would most likely say yes."
"Is that so."
"In a heartbeat. Sorry, hon, but Tommy Shelby, the things I would let him do to..."
"Thank God he is a fictional character," Chris interrupted.
"Not in my dreams he isn't," Raina taunted.
"Okay, I'm hanging up now."
"Alright, I'll stop lusting after my fictional husband while I'm on the phone with you," said Raina and switched topics.
The two continued to talk until Chris was ordered into the kitchen by his mother. It was his turn to help.
Chris was chopping carrots and celery when his mother asked how Raina was doing.
"She is doing fine. Raina wishes she could be here."
However, Lisa could tell something was bothering Chris. He could never hide his emotions from her. "What's the matter, Christopher?"
Chris continued to chop the vegetables until he stopped to look at his mother. "I didn't expect being away from Raina would be this hard, Ma."
"Of course it is. You love Raina," Lisa stated as she continued cooking.
"I do. But in the past, I had girlfriends who I loved and had to do long-distance," Chris explained. "None of those worked out."
"Because you weren't truly in love with them," Lisa pointed out. "Don't compare what you have with Rain to your past relationships. Every relationship is different. What you and Raina have now is not something you have experienced before, which is real love. True love. Everyone always knew that you two would end up together, except you and Raina. You both are so cute but also clueless at times. You both will get through this. The work commitments will die down. You both will be reunited. Everything will be fine."
Chris took in what his mother was saying. He knew she was right. He had things to look forward to beginning the start of the new year.
"Raina is the first person I dated, well since Jessica at least, that I have really begun to think about marriage and kids. Part of me is scared because it's all so fast. We have only started dating back in mid-July. I don't want to rush anything. I don't want to scare her off. I don't want her to get bored of me," Chris confessed honestly.
It was heartbreaking for Lisa to hear. She gestured for Chris to sit down at the kitchen table. "You need to stop, Chris. You are allowing your anxiety to get the best of you. Just take a deep breath, okay," she instructed her oldest son. "Raina will never get bored of you. She loves you very much. Don't think about the past; only focus on the future. You and Raina will be fine. More than fine. Yes, there will be hard times, along with good times. It is normal for every functional relationship. You can't have the good without the bad, the sad without the happy, the ups and the downs. The universe needs balance."
"Okay, Oprah," Chris joked. "I get what you're saying."
"Do you?"
"Yeah, I do, Ma."
"Good. Now get back to chopping," Lisa ordered, and Chris went back to cutting vegetables for Thanksgiving dinner.

[TRANS] Jeno’s interview with Grazia March 2020 issue!
Tumblr media
It was your first photoshoot without the NCT DREAM members. I was really surprised when I first heard about it. Usually, when we're doing a shoot, even if we're not all together, at least a few of us will be there. So I was a bit worried about doing the shoot all alone. When I'm together with the other members, I'm able to be a bit freer and do more various poses. I was half-anticipating and half-worried because I had to do a well without making it seems like there was an empty space
It became a hot topic when you won NCT DREAM the gold medal by shooting a 10 pointer in the archery finals at ISAC that aired last year.  It must have been a nerve-wracking but thrilling moment when there was only one arrow left, how did you feel? Since it was a tie until the end, my legs were trembling. I remember I had to shoot while I was very nervous. Also, I never mentioned this before, but it was a situation where my bow wasn't adjusted well so I couldn't aim right. That made me even more nervous, but luckily I scored 10 points. It was a very exciting moment for me and the members.
It seems like you've become the hero among the members since the contest, how is it (laughs)? Usually, Chenle isn't the type to be good at giving compliments. He would jokingly say you aren't doing well on purpose and there was something he told me that day after the game was over. He said, "you did kinda good today?". I felt strange that he acknowledged me for that day (laughs).
Are you the type of person who has always been athletic? I'm not born with it, but I do like to exercise and I'm very competitive. I participated with the mindset "let's win the gold medal since we're gonna be competing anyways". I think I was able to look forward to it,   not because I was confident, but because I didn't know how well the other players would do.
I heard you achieved great results with the release of your first mini-album  <The Dream> in Japan last month. NCT DREAM was the first group to top the Oricon Weekly Chart before their official debut. Actually, I was really worried when I heard that we would be releasing an album in Japan. We didn't have any Japanese songs nor did we have a Japanese version of existing songs. But still, our Japanese fans, Czennies, showed us so much love which I'm so grateful for.
It means that they waited as much as that for NCT DREAM The album received so much love even though it didn't contain a Japanese song. Thanks to that, I gained a lot of confidence for the promotions in Japan. In the meantime, every time we have an event or a concert in Japan, I'm able to have so much fun thanks to the support of the fans.
NCT DREAM is currently touring around Asia with their 'The Dream Show'. This kind of stage experience will help you to grow more, right? After being a trainee and debuting, I think my skills have gotten better and have improved through the concerts. So much that I cherish a concert or a big stage. Not only do we not have many chances to meet fans from all over the world, but it's also a rare experience to meet so many fans in one place. So much that every single moment is very precious to me.
Compared to when you just debuted, what made you feel like "nonetheless, I've grown"? First of all, my appearance has changed (laughs). It seems like the freshness we had during our debut days has disappeared. I feel more mature now that I've lost a lot of baby fat, and as we've continuously done promotions I've definitely improved on stage and live performance.
There are many unexpected things that can happen during a concert. Is there something that left a memorable scene? Usually, when you hear the thoughts from the sunbaes of their performance after the concert, you will feel touched or it will make you feel like crying. But for me, it was like that from the start of the concert. During the opening, I had shivers all over and I was overwhelmed with emotion. I was so moved that thousands of fans gathered just to see us. Even now, when I think about it, I still get goosebumps.
What is your role on stage? Power. I'm mainly responsible for using my body during a performance, so I focus on that powerful feeling.
What do you consider to be the most important thing when you are on stage? When I dance, I think expressing the texture of the song is very important. When I sing live, I try to make the scene more dramatic.
What kind of type are you on stage? I wonder if you're the type to do what was practiced or to improvise to match the mood of the day. I'm the type to improvise during rehearsals, and if it turns out okay, I will do it on the stage. When there's no reaction, I will just improvise on the spot. And rather, when things are set, I tend to forget them when I'm on stage. I think it will turn out better if I just follow my body.
All the members have seen each other grown-up together. I think you might be sharing a more special bond than just colleagues, when do you feel that? I feel that when we say "you've worked hard. thank you" after a show to each other. It's kinda embarrassing to say but those words have meaning to them. It had this fresh feeling when Haechan said "thank you everyone, you've done well" after a concert in Japan.
If you could have one of the many talents the members have, what would you most like to have? I would want the eyes of the members with good eyesight (laughs). Due to my poor vision, it's been kinda inconvenient these days. When we're on stage, I'm envious of those members that can wear color or circle lenses to match the concept.
So what is something of Jeno, that you would never want to lose? My eye-smile (laughs)? I don't want to lose my eye-smile.
What is NCT DREAM to Jeno? Even though we're colleagues, we're now past that and it feels like they are my neighborhood best friends. Because we've known each other since we were young, we know a lot about each other and we have a lot of things in common. So it's really fun to be with the members. Actually, during the shoot today I was thinking about the members too. It was great to have a solo shoot, but at the same time, it felt empty because I was alone.
How do you spend your time when there's no schedule? I really like movies and dramas, so I watch the ones I wasn't able to see yet. On the other hand, I like to exercise and ride a bicycle.
Is there anything new that has caught your interest recently? One of my goals for this year is to read more. Actually, I didn't feel the importance of reading until recently, but when I turned 21, I thought I should read more. I thought I need to read rather than starting at my phone while we're on the road, but even though it's almost March, I haven't started reading yet (laughs).
What would you want to show if you had the chance to take a vlog of Jeno's daily life? This is something I've wanted to do before, but when I get a driver's license, I want to film a vlog of me driving to the sea. I think it would look great in the autumn when there is a sunset.
So all you have to do is getting your driver's license first. You picked getting your license as an item on your bucket list this year, how are you progressing? It's not possible at the moment (laughs). Even if I get my driver's license, I'm worried I won't have many chances to drive. I want to get a license but it would be hard to find the time to drive, so I don't think it's something I should be doing soon.
Where does your happiness come from? Have you thought about it? Whenever I receive support and cheer from my fans I would think, 'am I worthy of being cheered for like this?'. At the same time, I feel like I'm in a really good place. I think I have to work harder to be deserving of the support I receive. When I do something and get a sense of accomplishment, I tend to feel a lot of joy. That's what this job is for me. I really like what I'm doing now because I can achieve as much as I tried for it.
It's already been two months since this new year started. How do you plan to spend the rest of 2020? I think this year will pass by really fast since these two months passed really quickly too. Personally, I hope this year marks the end of my growth. I want to make it a time to show a teenager turning into a fully grown adult.

Threads do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.
These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.
Reminder: September schedule posts are due by the end of October 7 KST. Please do not post schedule posts in the fmdschedule tag.
OVERALL COMPANY
Entering the fourth quarter of the year, the company is beginning to put the final touches on what they plan for their artists in 2021. Gold Star’s position as the current top company is viewed as more perilous to both company heads and investors than it may look from the outside, and they’re looking to solidify their status more before the end of the year. Media reports about the company’s performance so far this year steadily trickle out throughout the month and reflect both Gold Star executives’ and investors’ opinions of Origin, Femme Fatale, and their first soloist being the backbones of the company’s public image at the moment. This could lead to continued mismanagement, but internally, the company is trying to work out a way to keep everything from becoming a mess in the new year.
Important dates:
(September 30)-October 2: Chuseok vacation (no activities save for any individual schedules).
October 31: Gold Star Halloween Masquerade Ball.
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 1
After preparing for so long, she embarks on the beginnings of her new tour this month. She’ll be around the country this month before she departs to other parts of Asia next month. She’s adored enough that there’s little doubt the audience will be packed and each night is fully expected by management and fans alike to go off without a hitch. She has a little more freedom in her concerts than some of Gold Star’s other artists do, allowing her to more room to decide her own ments between songs.
Important dates:
October 3: Love, Poem tour concert at Woman’s University Universiade Gymnasium in Gwangju.
October 4: Love, Poem tour concert at Woman’s University Universiade Gymnasium in Gwangju.
October 10: Love, Poem tour concert at Incheon Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon.
October 17: Love, Poem tour concert at Sajik Gymnasium in Busan.
October 24: Love, Poem tour concert at KSPO Dome in Seoul.
October 25: Love, Poem tour concert at KSPO Dome in Seoul.
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 2
She continues to gear up for the dual release of the Korean and English versions of her holiday single this month. She’ll have some more concept meetings about the overall feeling they’re going for as well as the final storyboard for the music video that is scheduled to be shot next month. In the meantime, this month, she’ll need to go in to get the teaser photos for the single successfully shot on the 16th.
Important dates:
October 16: Comeback teaser photo shoot.
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 3
After finishing music show promotions, he takes off to the United States to do a limited run of press in the country in the form of YouTube videos for the channels of American fashion magazines (Elle, Allure, and Glamour) and as well as a performance set at the YouTube Space in New York. This set of promotions is aimed toward earning him new English-speaking fans that aren’t yet familiar with him or his music, especially ones not already interested in Korean music artists. Next month, he’s set to begin preparing and rehearsing for his next world tour.
Important dates:
October 24: End of music show promotions.
October 26: Elle Song Association video, Allure video, and Glamour fan fact check video filming.
October 27: Performance [1, 2, 3, 4] at YouTube Space NY in New York, NY, USA.
SILHOUETTE
After shooting the teaser photos for their special edition repackage at the beginning of the month, the members are asked to focus on anything and everything to be able to give their best vocal performance during promotions since they’ll be singing with very little backing track and they have a reputation as strong live singers to live up to. As the comeback is mainly marketed as a special gift to fans, there won’t be much additional promotion besides music shows. The members are also informed this month that Gold Star has arranged for them to hold a 19+ only concert, a first for idols and an attempt by the company to help market them as a step beyond typical idols to help their longevity as artists, at the start of the new year which they’ll begin rehearsing for next month.
Important dates:
October 5: Comeback teaser photo shoot.
October 25: Release of “Cleansing Cream” & Sixth Sense Special Repackaged Edition repackaged album, music show promotions continue through November 25.
ARIA
For the final month of Queendom, the group must prepare and release a new original song. They’ll be recording “Moonlight” in the first week of the month. In the second and third week, they’ll learn the choreography and attend fittings for the outfits they’ll be wearing. Full details of Queendom filming for this month can be found here. The members are also informed they’ll begin real comeback preparations next month and their next album will not include their finale song from Queendom.
Important dates:
October 1: Episode six of Queendom airs.
October 8: Episode seven of Queendom airs.
October 15: Episode eight of Queendom airs.
October 19: Stage outfit fittings.
October 22: Episode nine of Queendom airs.
October 29: Queendom episode ten live filming. (original song: “Moonlight”)
ORIGIN
As everyone expected, “On” was a success, even if not matching the massive hit they had on their hands last year with “Boy with Luv”, and the end of music show promotions comes on a high note. They’re done with new music releases and promotions for the year, but that doesn’t mean time to rest, as they’ve been chosen to become new ambassadors of FILA and have a promotional photo shoot and video to film that will be used to announce their new partnership.
Important dates:
October 18: End of music show promotions.
October 20: FILA photo shoot.
IMPULSE
PULS2 continues working on their debut, but after returning from Chuseok, all of the members of Impulse are tasked with beginning to rehearse for the end of the year fan meeting they’ll be holding. The themes of the fan meeting will be looking back on their debut and their relationship with their fans. Accordingly, they’ll be shooting a teaser photo for the fan meeting this month that remakes their debut teaser photo. They’ll also be in the dance studio refreshing themselves on some old songs and will be pulled aside to film interviews talking about how they look back on Who’s Next?: Origin Story, their debut, and their journey so far at this point in their careers that will be used for the VCRs of the fan meeting.
Important dates:
October 8: Fan meeting debut photo recreation teaser photo shoot.
      ↳ PULS2
Their debut is fast approaching next month, so on top of continued practice for their first stages as a unit, they’ll be in front of the camera a lot this month. Not only do they have to film the music video for their title track , but they also have to film short track films for each of the songs on the album. Teaser photo [2, 3] and fittings have to be fit in this month as well before the potential chaos of a Gold Star Media’s first ever sub-unit debut comes next month.
Important dates:
October 11: MV and stage outfit fittings.
October 17: Track films shoot.
October 19: Teaser photo [2, 3] shoot.
October 20: “Focus On Me” MV filming.
FUSE
After their extended Chuseok break comes to an end, the members of Fuse return to group schedules without much on the books for this month. They’re still riding on the success of “Psycho”, as it’s too early to begin preparing another comeback and they won’t continue their tour for a couple more months. Instead, as the new year gets closer and closer, they’re tasked with shooting their Season’s Greetings for fans. For the upcoming year, the photo shoot is themed after each member posing with a stuffed animal representing them (admin note: muns may choose what animal is assigned to represent their muse, but there shouldn’t be any overlap between members!).
Important dates:
October 3-6: Extended Chuseok break.
October 19: Season’s Greetings shoot.
ELEMENT
Element’s schedules slow down again as the weather begins to turn cold with no promise of when their next comeback will happen. While the company is fielding any songs submitted with creative involvement by the members, they also do continue to look to outside and in-house producers despite the rarity of existing songs written for co-ed groups. In the meantime, the company has arranged for them to collaborate with a popular dance cover group in videos for both Element’s Youtube channel as well as the dance cover team’s Youtube channel for a joint dance performance of “Dumb Litty”.
Important dates:
October 12: “Dumb Litty” dance cover crew collab [2] [3] filming.
FEMME FATALE
The time has come for the members to hold their first ever fan meeting (where they’ll be performing their assigned solo stages they’ve been rehearsing)..Compared to other months this year, October is more relaxed outside of the practice they have to keep up with ahead of the fan meeting.
Important dates:
October 24: Private Stage fan meeting at Olympic Hall in Seoul.

JULY 2020 DIMENSIONS ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW
Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of August 7 KST:
A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly total).
A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on their monthly schedule.
Reminder: June schedule posts are due by the end of July 7 KST. Please do not post schedule posts in the fmdschedule tag.
OVERALL COMPANY
All Dimensions idols are scheduled for a meeting with upper management the day before the news of the upcoming base Culture Complex is leaked to the media. They’re given a more detailed rundown of plans for the facility than the public is, although not all the details are made clear. In the meeting, everyone is informed Dimensions has partnered once again with BC and Gold Star to fund the construction of a new building in Gangnam meant to become the ideal location in the world for fans of idols. The building will include a museum with exhibits dedicated to the history and music of each group and soloist, a handful of theatre venues for intimate concerts and company-sponsored musical productions, a merchandise mall, a cafe, and many other fan experiences. (admin note: For reference, imagine something similar to SM COEX Artium —with over three times the budget.) The idols won’t spend much time there even once it’s finished being built, but content starring them is critical to the financial success of the venture, so the next several months leading up to its opening will have all three companies’ idols working hard to make its opening a success. This month, that mostly involves producing photo shoots: all idols will attend a photo shoot session this month where three categories of photo will be tacked: profile pictures for the artist wall (grayscale, professional and serious tone), images for life-sized cutouts of each idol (wardrobe will consist of jeans and a single-color top for each idol, fun and bright tone with fanservicable poses such as here and here encouraged) and 3D imaging for 3D-printed figures of each idol.
Important dates:
July 5: base Culture Complex briefing meeting.
July 12-July 31: Photo shoots for base Culture Complex, as individual muse schedule allows, at unspecified photo studio in Gangnam (admin note: muses may encounter idols from other companies while there).
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 1
As promised, she begins work on her next comeback this month with a new digital single. She’s planned to make her comeback in October, so this month isn’t too busy as she’s only in the studio to record the final vocals for the song. At the end of the month, she’ll have her first fittings for potential stage outfits. The goal for this round of fittings is mainly to get her opinion on potential styling.
Important dates:
July 30: First MV and stage outfit fittings.
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 2
He’ll be debuting a new song, “When You Call My Name”, at his concert next month, so in addition to rehearsals for the concert, he’ll be in the studio to record the song throughout the month of July. He won’t be releasing it until November, but the song needs to be recorded in full now so that a backing track can be made, though he’ll be expected to sing it mostly live at his concert.
Important dates:
N/A.
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 3
She’ll be holding her first ever solo concert in September, something Dimensions will be announcing this month as tickets go on sale for her fans and the public. It’s a big deal for her to hold solo concerts already and is a big show of faith from the company in her following the impressive performance of her debut, even if the venue isn’t huge. She’ll be rehearsing live performances all of her released songs and OSTs, and will also be able to cover up to three songs of her choice (as long as they don’t conflict with her public image too much). Rehearsals will be filmed for her OnStyle reality show.
Important dates:
N/A
GAL.ACTIC
News of a new comeback comes to the members in the form of a meeting this month. At the meeting, they get to hear demos of the upcoming mini-album and are informed that the concept for their comeback will be “black swan”, something more elegant and darker than their recent comebacks. Throughout the month, they’ll be in the studio recording the album. They also have a photo shoot for Arena Homme Plus and they’ll be performing “B.B.B”, “Someone Like U”, and “Be Ambitious” at a festival at the end of the month.
Important dates:
July 6: Photo shoot for Arena Homme Plus’s August issue.
July 29: Performance at Blue One Resort K-Pop Festival in Gyeongju (also performing: BEE, Knight, and Lipstick).
ALIEN
After they have the fittings for the “Follow” MV and comeback music show stages, Alien will move on to wrapping up comeback preparations by filming their comeback MV on July 7. Filming is simple compared to the overseas travel and acting they’ve had to do for some recent releases, as they’ll be filming solo and dance shots on a series of sets this time. After that, they’ll spend the next two weeks hard at work in the dance studio to fine-tune all of the details of their performance until the day of their comeback on July 20.
Important dates:
July 1: Comeback MV and stage outfit fittings.
July 7: “Follow” M/V filming.
July 14: Release of pre-release track “Find You”.
July 20: Release of “Follow” & Follow: Find You album, music show promotions continue through August 20.
MARS
MARS are back to work as ambassadors for Jambangee jeans by shooting an ad campaign for the summer season. It’s a simple shoot concept with simple styling, so it isn’t planned to take very long. The day after that photo shoot, MARS will be informed that they’ll begin preparing for a Japanese comeback this month by studio recording their Japanese comeback single, “Can’t Say”.
Important dates:
July 2: Jambangee summer ad campaign photo shoot.
7ROPHY
Now that 7ROPHY wrapped their most recent comeback promotions, they get a break from the cycle of comeback preparations for this month. Instead, they’ve been asked to participate in two magazine photo shoots that Dimensions has been happy to accept on their behalf to keep them in the public eye despite the disappointing performance of their last two singles. They’ll be the cover models of August’s issue of The Star and will have an inside spread in Nylon Korea the same month. For Queendom, they’ll be filming the first two episodes on July 16 and July 30, and they’ve been asked to prepare a performance of their representative hit song, “Latata”. Full details of Queendom filming for this month can be found here.
Important dates:
July 1: Photo shoot for Nylon Korea’s August issue.
July 4: Photo shoot for The Star’s August issue.
July 16: Queendom episode one filming (introductions).
July 30: Queendom episode one & two filming (representative hit song stage).
UNITY
The first two days of the month, Unity fits in both the photo shoot for their album photo book and a photo shoot and interview for Harper’s Bazaar Korea’s August issue. After that, the CHAMPION sub-unit members will leave for the US, and once they return, it’s the final month leading up to their long-awaited comeback, so pre-promotion activity kicks into high gear, including MV filming and the filming of a series of videos that will be released in the lead up to the album on Dimensions’ Youtube channel.
Important dates:
July 1: Album photo book shoot.
July 2: Photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar Korea’s August issue.
July 16: “Kick It” MV & behind & 1?Q 7!A filming day one.
July 17: “Kick It” MV & behind & 1?Q 7!A filming day two.
July 19: Welcome To The Unity Zone filming (The Opening Show, U.N.I Shopping)
July 29: Welcome To The Unity Zone filming (Looking For The Best Bruce Lee)
          ↳ CHAMPION
CHAMPION has already broken records, soaring to the top of the Billboard Hot 200 album chart last month, a feat only Origin has previously achieved. The achievement has BC and Dimensions quite proud and the lack of significant performance on the Korean charts isn’t considered a big deal to them due to the overseas success. This month, they begin their tour in Texas (flying out from Seoul late on July 5) and hold five US dates total before they fly out back to Seoul in the early morning hours of July 12. As previously mentioned, the two involves all of the songs on their mini-album, two unreleased songs (”Dangerous Woman” and “With You”), and solo stages by those who have made solo debuts before the tour.
Important dates:
July 6: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at Dickies Arena in Forth Worth, TX, USA.
July 8: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at United Center in Chicago, IL, USA.
July 9: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at Infinite Energy Center in Duluth, GA, USA.
July 10: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, VA, USA.
July 11: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY, USA.
LUCID
Beginning on July 4, the Lucid members begin their Welcome to The Dream World tour, which is dedicated entirely to songs from their nightmare realm concept, along with the special stages mentioned in last month’s schedule. From July 7 to July 9, they’ll be in Taiwan, and then on July 23, they’ll fly out from Seoul again to continue their tour overseas. For the first chunk of the month, while they’re in Seoul, they’ll be busy learning the choreography for their title track, “Navillera” and b-side “Gone With The Wind”, along with outfit fittings.
Important dates:
July 4: Welcome to The Dream World concert at Shinsegae Mesa Hall in Seoul, South Korea.
July 7: Comeback MV and stage outfit [2] fittings.
July 8:  Welcome to The Dream World concert at Legacy Taipei in Taipei, Taiwan.

2. We can spend hours working on the right sound.
Queen’s first concert in Japan, 1975. (From Music Life June Issue 1975)
Already popular in Japan, Queen caught fire with the third album SHEER HEART ATTACK, which follows QUEEN II. They performed for the first time in Japan in April and May 1975. After he recovered, even Brian took part to the interview, and they told us once again their opinions about the band’s origin and their released works.
**********************************************************
Weren’t you surprised that there were a lot of female fans gathered at the airport and at the hotel waiting to meet you?
RT: To be honest, all of us were expecting that a bit. However, to receive such a welcome was beyond our imagination. It’s an amazing thing. It’s a relief that there weren’t hysterical groups and exaggerations as it happened in the past. We were at the point that we couldn’t even take a step out of the hotel.
You played concerts in America before coming to Japan, right?
FM: That’s right. It’s been 4-5 months since we’ve left England and we’re travelling. The concerts started in England, we travelled Europe and then we went back to England for a little while for Christmas and right after that we started a long American tour. We stopped in Hawaii to take a rest for 2-3 days and we came here.
How was America’s reaction?
RT: It was a huge success. I think it was a very good trip. Since we performed in many other cities than we previously did, our confidence jumped out throughout this tour because we could finally make it even in America.
I know that it was a huge success in every city…
RT: Aaah, it’s unbelievable. North America was where we had the most resonance. Also, in both the East and the West Coast. I know that the records sold well in the East. However, the spark catches fire always later in the West Coast. The South is tiresome for English bands. But, in general, we received a good reaction in every city. The only exception was Texas.
FM: That was mainly the promoter’s fault.
Brian May: On the other hand, there was a fantastic resonance in New York and Los Angeles, we were happy. It made it possible for us to know that there is a new market, we felt that we gained strong supporters.
RT: From Boston, the most trend-aware place was Cleveland. While we were trying to visit America it was like visiting completely different countries. Everything is different depending on each state. You don’t have control over the communication between states.
Where are you going after Japan?
RT: We’ll be able to go back home! It will be a holiday after the harvest season (as John opens his mouth from the side to add: “Just for two, three days” everyone looks downhearted)
And then you’ll start the recording?
BM: Yes, of the next album.
Have you already planned the next album?
BM: Not clearly, yet. Many people asked us but, actually, it’s often impossible to predict what will be done until our recording isn’t completed. But I’m not talking about the (total) concept album or similar. We let things take their course. I think that the songs will probably be completed before we go to the studio, as it happened with our previous albums. But the only certain thing is that it will turn out to be something different than the previous albums.
RT: The sound is probably going to change so that it won’t end up being boring. This is because it already happened when we were always doing the same things.
When will the next album be released?
FM: I guess around Christmas. (and then he looks at the other members. They all say: “We’re not certain”) We want it released as fast as possible.
How long does it take to make an album?
FM: It takes a very long time. That’s why I think that it’s impossible that the next album comes out before Christmas. And I think this album will be in a different format. I guess it’s clear that we did the recording of all the three albums all at once. However, this album will allow us to take a little more time: to go back and resume recording after going on a trip or while taking a break sometimes. This is because ideas spring out better this way. We can’t wait to start, because it’s like something new is about to happen to us.
RT: This is a memory from America, but when we landed there we were a bit worried, because when we thought that our album was in the 100th position of the hit chart, it immediately fell off. But when we left America, both the album and the single were again ranked in the top 100 and they actually seemed to still rise in the chart. So we were relieved, finally.
Freddie, have you started any new compositions for the new album?
FM: No, I have a few ideas but I’m not good to the point of being able to write along the way. Anyway, I often do that away on tour, so I don’t stick to writing only in the peace of my home.
Do you like to mix down?
FM: We are people who spend a lot of time on anything.
RT: We can spend hours working on the right sound. If the back track is weak, we try to put a sound on it, if it’s not good, we start over. We spend a lot of time on overdubbing, too. Because we don’t have to worry about doing things in a rush. (Brian adds: “We also spend a considerable amount of time on cutting”)
Where do you do the cutting?
BM: At Trident Studios. But, lately, when we went there, we couldn’t quite obtain what we wanted. So we took the tape to America and, when we tried to do the cutting there, it turned out way better than what we did at Trident Studios. We did it at Mastering Lab in New York.
FM: Actually, we’re doing everything by ourselves: while we’re doing the cutting we’re also making the CD jacket at the same time. But it’s good to be absorbed in our work.
Then, could you tell us about the aim and the theme of the three albums released so far?
BM: Actually, we don’t set down. (he means that they don’t establish rules and standards) We just want to make an album that leaves achievements behind. But I suppose that the only album with such thing as a concept was our second one, QUEEN II. Though it was the result of a coincidence, or, more precisely, there was a Black Queen and a White Queen by coincidence.
FM: I think there’s one concept. The record recreates what we were trying to do at the time. People say that QUEEN II is a concept album. However, it’s no more than a step towards the direction we’re trying to take. I mean, we don’t set big plans before we start making a record. We did no more than what we wanted to do at the time.
BM: It’s such a ridiculous thing. They see us as we’re trying to look for something, though we’re not trying to do anything like that. You’ll get over pampered for that reason, and you’ll end up thinking that you have to work very hard and put devotion in what the others expect. But this is hard. It took a lot of time for us to get noticed. That’s why they may have said that “there is no youth”. But I always remember the music I used to listen when I was 10. We were constantly thinking “Aah, if only we had their chance” while listening to Led Zeppelin and The Who. It’s for this reason that we always roam about between the music of that time and the music we’re doing now.
It seems that you all were acquainted before Queen were formed.
BM: Yes, absolutely. Roger and I have known each other for a long time and both of us were hanging out with Freddie since before. We’ve got to know John quite recently. Around 4 years ago. (John nods)
Who’s the one that mainly writes the lyrics?
FM: We don’t decide who is in charge. Everyone writes compositions and then, usually, we add the lyrics, but all the members worked on “Stone Cold Crazy”. This is the first song for which all of us wrote the lyrics, but usually each one brings an outline of the song, listens to it with the other 3 and incorporates ideas.
Please tell us your favourite album among the three.
FM: Uhm, it’s difficult, because I like all three of them. If had to choose only one I’d say SHEER HEART ATTACK. Even when we released the first album I thought it was a very good one, but when I look back now, I think that it's getting better every time we release an album. There is no room for development if you’re satisfied with one thing. I really liked even the second album when it came out, it was exactly what we wanted. I think it’s a good one even when I listen to it now but in this way we’re learning something new with every work.
RT: I think that the best was SHEER HEART ATTACK.
BM: Mine is QUEEN II, for many reasons. Because you can feel that it’s a very intense album.
FM: All three are different. That’s why I like all the three albums. In QUEEN II there’s drama but in SHEER HEART ATTACK we decided that this wasn’t necessary.
Your lyrics are very ambiguos, are you doing that on purpose?
BM: We are proud of it.
RT: I don’t like bad language. Brian is a literary man. It's okay not to use slang, but my the grammar is messy and the spelling is wrong… (everybody bursts into laughter)
FM: It’s a hard work to add lyrics to a composition, indeed.
RT: If the record will get a bad reputation it’s because the spelling is wrong. (he laughs)
Does it bother you if you receive a bad review?
FM: It depends on what they write. If it’s a fair judgement, we don’t mind. There are also articles that we wonder if they were written after properly listening to the record. Because it really can hurt if you’re criticized on the wrong information. They not only wrote terrible things about our songs in the past, but it happened that they mistook who was playing which instrument. Those people didn’t clearly listen to the record. That is a completely unjustified slander. Because if those magazines are influential, many people will end up believing them.
On another note, is any of you married?
FM: No one is. We’re married to the music.
Brian, I heard you’ve been a school teacher?
BM: Yes, I’ve taught maths to students from 12 to 18 years old. It was more like a hobby to me because I did it as a representative teacher or a lecturer. It was truly a fresh and meaningful experience.
What was the occasion that led you to become a musician?
BM: There isn’t a particular occasion that led me to give up on teaching and become a musician. Music was the closest to what I wanted to do the most. It doesn’t mean that I made a change of direction, I can always teach again and do astronomy, if I feel like it. I like astronomy.
Freddie, you were an art college student?
FM: I studied for 3 years at Ealing. A graphics and illustration specialization course. At first, I took a fashion course but since I didn’t like it very much I switched to graphics. I still like to draw and collect pictures.
RT: He designed the band logo. The lettering of the Queen logo and all the other things were done by him.
Would you make a comment on the following groups? First, Led Zeppelin.
ALL: Amazing band. We did concerts at the same time in New Orleans and Los Angeles and we exchanged ideas. We’ve been friends since then.
Bad Company.
BM: A good band. Amazing singer and amazing drummer. We also get along with them. I think Paul Rodgers is really a great singer.
Average White Band.
ALL: Even though the records are great, the live performances are not good. It certainly is a good band but it doesn’t meet our tastes.
What are your plans for the future?
ALL: We’re going to have lunch for the time being. Because we haven’t eaten anything since morning. (they laugh)
We’re terribly sorry.
ALL: It’s fine, MUSIC LIFE is the first magazine that introduced us to Japan. And also, you write almost every month about us. We’re extremely grateful, so we’d do anything to cooperate. We want to take this opportunity to thank all the readers from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you very much, to all of you. We’re very glad that you’ve chosen QUEEN II as the “album of the year” in the popularity contest of MUSIC LIFE. A great trophy is the best present. Thanks again!

T/N: Second interview from the Music Life special issue about Roger Taylor. As always, I am not an English native speaker, so forgive any possible error. Also, remember that translating into a foreign language is difficult and I hope I have preserved the original meaning.
