Occasionally I think about how in TWEWY, Beat and Rhyme have a memorial for their accident put there by people who knew them.
Tumblr media
And Shiki has people (or at least Eri that we see) clearly mourning her death.

But Neku has...nothing. No memorial. No people thinking about this 14 yo kid that got shot and died quietly alone in a back alley with no one to help him. It was just cleaned up and nothing is left to show that he was even there.

I understand it's likely this way to help with the plot twist(s) but it really does hammer home how Neku really had no one before the start of twewy.
At least he has people that remember him later...

So what's your two cents on the whole discourse?
[There isn’t any discourse happening. It’s just one kid and their friends not understanding why representation is important. That’s a nuisance, not a discourse.
LGBT+ representation is a sore spot when it comes to League, especially to the tumblr rp community for obvious reasons. The developers have been hinting at it happening for a long time now, but all we got was unofficial ‘confirmation’ about Rakan being bi I think? I don’t tend to read the forums because rioteers like to share contradictory information on it and it’s, at best, unofficial.
I strongly disagree with the suggestion that the way to fix this is a Gay Champion that takes forever to develop. Being queer shouldn’t be the be all end all of their identity and to do that would boil down to “see we are giving you The Gay, we put a Lot of Effort TM into it, you have you rep now you lose all ground to ask for more”.
I have my beef with Overwatch, but I think they did Tracer’s reveal pretty well; it’s treated as an organic, ordinary part of the character, not presented for shock value, not grounds to show how she struggles against hate or anything like that.
Overwatch has its issues, how boy it does, but at the end of the day it’s colorful, escapist fun so I’m not surprised that’s the route they took. Knowing Rito if they ever give us a queer character, they will have their struggle against a homophobic system at the centre, similarly to the way Lux struggles against an anti-magic culture and that’s just... eugh. There is enough shit in the new lore without added fantasy homophobia.
I said it before, others said it too, what my problem is with the Darius comic and his NPC love interest, I don’t want to repeat it. It was an unnecessary plot device that didn’t show us anything about his character that they couldn’t have shown in a different, more organic way. You could even argue that reducing his emotions to “sad because girl” is borderline ooc.
Flesh out his interactions with his brother instead. It’s already established that Draven is the more careless, hotheaded of the two, give him a throwaway gay interest. Even as a fling. Draven sleeps in because he had fun lust night, Darius is tired of his brothers antics (’we have a battle today, can you at least try to take it seriously?’) background gay lover walks out and never heard of again. Still a throwaway plot device, but at least he doesn’t die to provide cheap angst.
Feelings can come from Draven almost dying, hello. Because there is risk and then there is getting blown up and surviving by dumb luck. Darius can be worried, can have a holy shit moment because he underestimated the danger and he doesn’t know if his brother is alive or not until after the fight is over, there can be a relief bonding moment that his dumb sibling is singed a bit but still mostly intact and as annoying as ever.
That’s probably the most cliché route it could go tbh, but I’m completely sick of the Tough Guy Only Has Feelings Because Romance trope and the comic was executed in a way that made me cringe. I liked that Darius has feelings, I liked how deep they ran and how he struggled with matching them up with his loyalty, but directing it all at Blond Nobody was just bad.]
