Okay this gave me flashbacks to Nam. First off, my husband and I are raising our daughter without religion. So it was extremely confusing when, years ago, the kid led me a circle of toys she had arranged in front of the fireplace, told me to kneel in it, and tell Santa (via the fireplace) what I want for Christmas. And she that she had already told Santa this way, and she'd give me privacy. Even more unbelievable than that was the fact that I actually did it because it was 2020 and I had nothing else to do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Cookies represent the body of Santa while the milk represents the blood of Santa
#this happened in september so santa would have time to prepare i guess#we monitor what she watches so we would've known if she had learned some pagan rituals online#i was so bewildered#but also fascinated#like she was a microcosm of the birth of religion#a future cult leader idk#real life#parenting#santa claus#religion#former catholic

MCC 18 SEP 21
Yellow Yacks and Cyan Coyotes with a little Aqua Axolotls. Part 1/1
The only reason I didn’t forget MCC was because I got the notification for Eret.
I have Wilbur on my TV. I’m going to watch Eret on my phone. And I’ll have Tommy on my iPad probably.
Wilbur throwing a tantrum and saying he won’t play.
I feel like a true Gen Z member with my multiple screens of minecraft.
I’m only just getting the Wilbur notification.
I love watching everyone run around before MCC and scale things.
Griefing the thumbnail. 😂
Wilbur just causes problems on purpose when it comes to group photos doesn’t he.
He just loves finding ways to cause problems.
Wilbur got a coconut!?!
I didn’t mean to type the question mark originally. But I am a bit confused.
Wilbur just stocking up on coconuts
True friendship is a quote book. I have several.
Baby banana boo.
Wait. I heard the word tumblr
Scott what did you do with tumblr?
I’m scared. Only Eret permitted on tumblr.
I remember watching hole in the wall as a tv show as a kid.
Wilbur’s glasses that don’t do anything.
There are September discounts for subbing?
Neato.
The conversations in my work discord are something else.
Not surprised that Wilbur is going for top swearer of MCC
But my residents are going to walk by my door and judge me.
Alright I apparently wasn’t signed in to twitch on my iPad and it took me entirely too long to learn to remember it.
Tommy looks like he’s really concentrating. Oh wait never mind.
Wow the yaks are in first currently. I might be cheering for a winning team for once.
Alright I have my iPad split screen between Tommy and the MCC website.
Everyone break the elevator!
In the game, not in the building I work. I don’t want that paperwork.
Stick together and place many block.
I’ve been in Wilburs position. “I’ll be captain” “yeah let’s let Wilbur be captain”
Not a single POV I have up is synced. But that’s life.
Oh not starting out strong.
Just keep going. Ignore the falling people just like ranboo last time.
We are at the absolute bottom for this game.
Where’s a bag of popcorn or something?
“Stay down there. That’s how I won that one time” -Ranboo
Down they go.
They didn’t have anywhere to run.
Second round!
Oh that wasn’t their best idea. It was fun seeing Erets POV of that.
Go Teams.
Turning down the volume on yellow yacks to listen to aqua axolotls.
Aqua please. You have so much potential.
Nope.
Switching audio again.
Yellow back at the bottom.
Ranboo ranboo ranboo ranboo
Down he goes. 😂 the timing of that was funny.
Please. Don’t die
Wilbur. Scott. Please.
Scott uncovering the creeper.
Their plan is literally just sit and be.
To be fair that’s my plan for everything I do.
Oh cobwebs are smart.
I’m eating very salty Chick-fil-A chips and need water.
We are still doing ok. Wow.
Cobwebs man. The real MVP.
They are still in 10th
COBWEBS!!! And Wilbur standing on the edge of a block.
THEY WON THAT?!?!!!!
It moved them from last to eight. But still. Wow.
Holy cow. How did that happen.
I always forget what the acronym game is.
Oh yeah. Wilbur snuck and found this. I remember.
Go team!
Oh the website updates faster than the game. But we’re starting off decent.
I’m going to have to take back that statement aren’t I?
Go go go go
Fly fly fly fly
Build build build build
Go Wilbur!
Rafter strat.
Wilbur found the rafters and everyone else loved it.
Blocking his own jump. 😂
I really should do the inside joke chair emoji thing for laughing. But I don’t care.
Tiktok is nice. Depends on the side you are on, but it’s nice.
We are doing halfway decent. I’m proud of us.
Wilbur is struggling and I think he might cry.
Not bad. I don’t think.
Power sweater.
This game in MCC has rainbow road vibes
I’ll have to make that it’s own post since I feel that’ll be popular ish.
Holy cow we hit first on the website!! How?
Ranboo sweet one.
They said no peaking to Wilbur.
Wilbur making them block stuff off and the like is so funny.
Run yaks run!
I missed the moment Wilbur just mentioned. Oh well I’m sure I’ll see the clip.
First last first.
Hey 4th overall. Look at em.
Wilbur switching to full screen to show us his M&Ms.
Let me balance my water bottle on the bedpost above my head. No way this could possibly go wrong in multiple ways.
Double coins. Gorgeous.
Chickens are being sniped.
What’s going to work? TEAM WORK!
I don’t think I have ever watched a game of grid runners in my life?
Alright game should start any second because it started on the website.
Alright stream is delayed about 13 seconds.
Go teams go!
Wilbur just sniping targets.
We’re doing ok.
All this dirt.
Go go go
We’re completing things first.
Cake!
Wilbur got in!
Now they eat
Oh but they are falling.
Oh wow the painting is complicated. My friends and I would fail to communicate so fast.
Is this lever thing just find the button but complicated?
Go you got the levers!
Items grab!
My friends and I would seriously struggle unless I was allowed the lead. But I would lead us off a cliff.
Everyone get ready to go in as soon as the cake is done.
Exit! You guys are so close! Please!
Woohoo!
Go Ranboo! Go Scott!
Come on guys. Come on. Good communication.
I think I like watching Wilbur with MCC because he had a similar strategy to what I would do.
Wilbur why did you try to act cool!!!
They keep saying they are miles ahead but not according to that scoreboard.
You placed 3rd. Good job y’all.
I’m excited for bonuses.
They have another minute until the others run out of time.
Good soup.
Oh wow. Ranboo and Wilbur really are always totgehe.
We are doing well. I see the board changing on the website so much.
Where will they land.
Looks like 2nd or 3rd
Fourth overall. Not bad.
Lap time is logical.
Audience vote?
Look at me redownloading twitter.
Can you not see how others have voted on twitter?
Oh there it is. It only showed mine for a sec there.
Battle box looks close. I voted ace race.
Oh it all looks close right now.
Long break my beloved.
I don’t have time to start my laundry but still. My beloved.
Game 5/8 so MCC won’t be too much longer.
I look up and Wilbur is shaking his ass at George. I’m not surprised.
Phil and Sneeg judging Wilbur.
Wilbur twerking on Phil and Sneeg joining.
Poor Phil.
Wilbur just having visited so many random places with so many random words just gathered.
Oh wow parkour tag is low. But so is sands.
Oh wow it was a tie. Between Sands and Parkour
“Wilbur is Sand Daddy” -Scott and then all the agreement noises.
Sands of Time is my favorite practical game
Maybe because Wilbur is really good at it. And Ranboo had been trained by him.
This is just good.
I swear Sand daddy is going to kill me during this.
I am just going to pass away.
My stream delay though.
Wilbur who says he stays very quiet as he makes circus music noises.
Minecraft Rhinos. Because I can’t spell their real name.
I don’t quite understand sand of time. But I like watching. It’s like college football.
I am missing the only college football game I care about for MCC.
Go Team.
No blue yet.
All the mobs.
“You better not die” sung to the tune of Santa clause is coming yo town. -Wilbur
Keep it up guys.
Oh no. They lost the key.
Oh good they found the key.
You can tell Wilbur had a musicians brain. He just hears something vaguely lyrical and starts singing a song.
Gotta promote your band whenever you can I guess.
I listened to the last Ep for like an hour and a half yesterday while I went about my day.
I wonder how we’re doing?
Only a few seconds.
I could warm a heating pad in the amount fo time they have left.
Ranboo doing these puzzles so amazingly.
Quit caring about what others think. Just do your thing.
I swear the sand daddy thing.
I love the cage of shame for not tracking your sand.
I zoned out. Red cyan orange?
We’re almost 15 minutes into sands.
I want to play Minecraft on my iPad right now.
Wait the website updated. We were 6th?
Yikes. I thought they did better.
3rd overall though!
Wait what was that about most influential improv thingy? Good for them.
Build mart!
Oh Ace Race. Wilbur calling Ace Race his girlfriend now.
I want to see the enemies to lovers fan fictions of Ace race and Wilbur.
Oh wait I can do that. I can verbally tell one like I have others in the past.
I’m excited to watch this.
Wilbur flirt with the race.
I’m not mentally prepared for this.
Everyone just joined because they don’t want to miss Wilbur x Ace Race.
Oh no. He’s not doing so well.
Oh Wilbur is giving us more.
Complicated history…
Whispering to Ace Race and Solidarity.
You’ve got it Wilbur.
Keep on talking. Keep your brain busy while you play.
Mommmm Wilbur is flirting with Ace Race again!
He’s whispering though so I can’t quite hear it and will have to find a clip channel that added subtitles.
Oh teams are changing on the website.
“What are you doing in my women Philza?” -Wilbur
“I will end your bloodline which is canonically also me.” -Wilbur
I can not track all the quotes from this. That’s beyond my abilities.
Wilbur did halfway decent, but it still uncomfortable.
Ace Race is a person now. Also the fact that Wilbur compliments Ace Race so much.
Sally v. Ace Race.
I want to find that fanart now.
Scott honey. Confirmed cannon is everyone fancies the fish.
4th. Not bad.
We’re still talking Ace Race x Wilbur
Build mart! My dearest buildmart!
I miss them sliding around in the sleds.
Grab da flowers!
We’re in 1st at the minute.
Come on yaks!
No coyotes!
Hurry hurry hurry.
Work discord going it’s thing again.
Oh we’re dropping fast.
Move the redstone! Thank you
Alright back on top. Keep it up.
Nevermind.
I love the way the build spaces for the different teams work.
Who is the person on the build?
Oh first again? Nevermind.
Oh we popped up to second. We’re so behind. Come on.
Duck!
Good soup energy. Now all I can think is the bi wide energy song.
Time is running out.
Yeah we aren’t catching up to first. Just hold second.
Where is granite?
Game over.
Third overall now. Not bad. Last game time they can possibly pull it into dodge bolt.
I need to go get a picture with the President of the university for a game with my work.
Good Soup.
I’m sitting here making popcat noises while waiting.
Game time! Go team! Survive!
Wait where did the steamer go? I wasn’t paying attention.
He’s back.
He’s swearing for his points on the swearing list.
Is pee a soup? No. I don’t think it’s think enough under normal circumstances.
Karl is apparently swearing according to Twitter. Good for him. He deserves to swear some as a treat.
Everyone running and leaving shubble.
Oh good they are all together.
Just keep running.
4th so far.
Cars. Beep beep.
Ranboo breath child.
Calling Wilbur like some kind of golden retriever.
Bow boy
Scott is leader now. Because otherwise they are arguing.
We are playing the don’t die strategy.
Come on team.
Did I put my cut in this post? I did.
Ranboo having stolen the airdrop. And he has a thing!
Oh the boarder is right behind them.
They are fighting Dream?
Nice Will.
We’re in fourth.
Boarder is right there.
Sapnap? Nope.
Pink attack and they book it.
Oh no. There goes Wilbur.
Is it just Scott?
Scott vs the world.
Just Organe and pink. They came third.
GO ORANGE!
Please. Please let us do it.
Overall third. Pink overtook yellow.
Sadness.
Ranboo has achieved: Found Hated Game
Ranboo has been hit by Survival games so many times now.
If they had just lasted a tiny bit longer they would have come second.
Cheering Orange I suppose.
I have no skill at picking winner POVs.
I have 3 teams I was at least kinda watching. And none of them are in dodgebolt.
Gosh can hear Ranboo tweaking.
Wow. Yellow yaks just as a team twerking.
What is Wilbur chewing on? Wilbur don’t chew on things that probably aren’t meant to be chewed on.
I can hear the band outside of my window. I think my campuses football game is starting.
The drum line practiced outside my window all the beginning of the semester so it’s fun seeing them march to the stadium.
Oh and there are the cheerleaders.
Oh right I was watching MCC! Who’s winning?
Come on Orange. So close.
Wait I looked out my window. Why is the band walking back to where they were?
Along the sidewalk?
I thought it was game time for a minute.
Oh dodgebolt could go either way.
Distracted by Jesus.
Grian! You got this!
Nice Grian.
Oh Grian has a chance!
Oh!
Oh!
It’s so close!
Ooo ooo!
I’m so invested.
I SEE THE CONFETTI IN THE SITE! But I don’t want to miss the shot.
Come on Grian.
I know you do it. But you’ve got this
YESSSSS
Woo hoo!!
That was a good MCC. Now to do the chores and homework I originally planned to do today.
That was a nice stream.
Scott is separating Ranboo and Wilbur?
Please. Scott.
Don’t separate the beings.
You know. Twitter needs to politely bully Scott into keeping Ranboo and Will together.
Oop and that’s Wilbur done. That was fun.
See y’all next time!

this is the anonymous christmas ghost for ur one piece secret santa ooooOOOoOOoOoOooo 👻 i was wondering if u could tell me more about ur oc bc i love him so much and *cracks knuckles* i wanna draw him RIGHT
Although that ask/message/whatever you wanna call it is “outdated” I want to answer to it nonetheless. Because I´m in the mood to talk about my boy Ravni now. Since he´s a selfinsert Oc non One Piece related information also refers to me with exception of the name...so I´m kinda talking about me here. The information isn´t well-ordered since I write them down how they pop up in my mind. It´s mostly personal stuff and I think most of it is also quite boring and not interesting at all but thanks for showing interest in my uninteresting boy xD
-His full name is Utgardmåne Ravni. Utgard is the name of the underworld aka realm of trolls and giants in norse mythology, måne is swedish for moon and Ravni is derived from the name Ravn (literally just added an i because I think it sounds nicer) which is a name that means raven in norwegian -Later on in his life though his name will be Trafalgar (D.) Ravni. If they even take the name of their spouse in the One Piece world I don´t even know that. Couldn´t find any information. But whatever -So yeah obviously I guess I have a selfship with Trafalgar Law. What a surprise since I literally have “Trafalgar Laws husband” in my bio am I right? I love my dear surgeon of death a lot and was told we would fit and I agree so heyyy why not? -He was born on the 26th September in the Lvneel Kingdom in the North Blue -Before the timeskip he´s 18 and after he´s 20 -He´s 1.68 m tall -Since he left his home with 16 he became the sniper of the Heart Pirates. Being a good sniper somehow runs in his families. Both maternal and paternal -His bounty is 69,000,000 Berry/Belly/Beri/Beli. I didn´t want to give him a very high one but also not low...I dunno. I´m very sorry if it´s too op I have no idea of the bounties I have to admit -He is autistic so he experiences the world a little...different? Very sensitive with noises. Little to no communication skills. Lack of empathy. Insisting on routines. Afraid of getting touched by strangers or people he doesn´t like. Hard of understanding. No eye contact. Afraid of big changes. Very nervous around strangers, in crowds and when talking in front of several people. The latter is almost impossible though because panic attacks are faster and won´t let him do it in the first place -When he reads things he often repeats a sentence he just read. It isn´t really forced but he also doesn´t really want to. No one knows why -He spends most of his time alone with drawing or reading. Or with Law by his side if he isn´t busy that moment. Rarely even others of the crew who he grew close with over time. Mostly Bepo though to get comfort since he´s very clingy and Law isn´t always around or doesn´t always want to deal with that burdock. So sometimes only soft bear hugs -Although he loves being alone he gets lonely rather quickly and depression kicks in really hard. When that´s the case he either cuts, burns himself with matches or smokes. He always sweared to never smoke but since he once did it while being sad the urge often overcomes him while feeling down -When he´s hurting himself he mostly does it when he´s feeling down while Law is not present aka he´s busy with whatever. So to get some attention from his dear doctor boyfriend who then gets to nurse his cuts. Because he often worries that Laws love for him fades over time and then feels his love for him through the worry during this -When he´s as sad as he can get he stops crying and instead starts to laugh. It´s like a defence of his body against the sadness since laughing makes happy. The same is the case when he accidently hurts himself. He just laughs -To make himself less nervous in intense situations he jokes around. Since he should be serious in such moments other people don´t understand and find it inappropriate -Oh by the way he´s goth. Black and black and black. Or at least very dark. Black clotbes, black makeup, black nail polish, black everything. But cute Hello Kitty socks beneath the black boots -When a feeling of his gets too strong he starts to cry. It doesn´t matter what emotion it is. Anger, happiness, love, doesn´t matter -He´s a quite selfish and jealous person when it comes to his partner. Aka Law. When they are out and people stare at Law (no one can tell me that doesn´t happen. My husband is fucking hot. Way too hot for me to be honest) then his shyness is completly gone and he wants to kick their butt so hard they´ll land on the moon. It´s not that he doesn´t trust Law. He trusts him more than anyone else. He just doesn´t trust strangers who make moony eyes at his husband -But hey yes he isn´t scared of going into public while having Law by his side. He couldn´t feel any safer and protected -Ah how Ravni and Law even met and how Ravni got into the crew? When Corazon and Law visited Lvneel Kingdom to search for a cure they met the first time! So they´ve known each other for quite a while. But of course they weren´t friends and especially not a couple that early. Law knew how good of a sniper Ravni was so he wanted to have him in his crew. But Ravni needed to prepare himself first because changes are a problem. And leaving his home to set sail and having no idea what can happen sure is a huge change. But ventually he managed and joined the Heart Pirates. Hooray! -He´s a giant metal head. Black metal, heavy metal, nu metal but most importantly death metal. I don´t think there aren´t any known musicians/bands of that kind in the One Piece world but let´s pretend! His dear cousin Utgardmåne Grim is one that´s enough

Day 27: Delibird
I rarely like a Pokemon that doesn't have evolution but definitely, Delibird is one of them. I know a lot of people doesn't like Christmas because it is too festive, loud and happy (haha I guess) but it reminds me that there's a whole month each year where we could just be happy, feel nostalgic because most of us going back home to our parents, relatives or siblings, and just by giving gifts to make other people feel loved as well. This is why I like Delibird, it reminds me of that time of the year.
Before the lockdown happened, every December in my place I always make sure that I go to the malls before I go home. I work mostly early in the morning from 6 am to 3 pm (6:00 to 15:00). I am a morning person, I like finishing all the stuff I need to do as early as possible so I can enjoy the rest of the day by going somewhere or watching my favorite series. One of them is by going to the mall in December.
My country celebrates Christmas as early as September as we call it here, the BER months. Everything is on sale, literally, malls would decorate slowly their stores a mixture of Halloween and Christmas haha ridiculous as it may sound but I like it.
Everywhere you go even people are stressing out buying and preparing for the holidays, you can still see their smiles because they know they're doing this for their loved ones.
I may have gone sideways with my post about Delibird, haha but I hope you like my version of this little Santa Pokemon! :D

Hollywood Forever
Summary: Seán meets up with his Granny's parents and talks to them.
September 14, 2018
Seán walked into the living room, still a little tired from sleep. He was yet to do his hair but that could wait until after breakfast. Nine o'clock had come and gone. He really should get on with everything he was meant to do today. After spending a day and a half playing the Spider-Man game the week before, he didn't have to worry about today's video. What was it, the ninth episode of the series? Either way, the most he needed to do video-wise was double check everything was ready to go.
It was good he had his immediate work sorted for today. He could film another instalment of Funniest Home Videos tonight, keep things easy. There were other things that needed to take priority. Namely, visiting the grave of an actor who died 86 years ago.
"Morning." "Hey. So, what's your plan for today?" Mark asked absentmindedly. "Uh, Hollywood. I've been meaning to visit Jameson while here. If I'm going to do it, today's the best day to see him." "Want me to come with you?" "No, no. It's fine, thanks. It's something I have do alone, you know?" "Sure." Mark nods.
The Uber ride is generally uneventful except for the 15 minutes following the driver learning Seán is going to pay his respects to Jameson Jackson. He doesn't mention his relation to the man, only that he is special to Seán's family. Lord knows that would have added more time to the conversation. Seán is too preoccupied working out what exactly he's going to say once he gets there. By the time the car has arrived at Santa Monica Boulevard, he has checked his bag for the copy of his grandmother's favourite book four times. As he was reassuring himself for the fourth time, his brain had screamed at him to cut it out already. He hadn't taken it out of the bag so it couldn't have gone anywhere. Therefore, he should cease all further checks.
The cemetery wasn't called Hollywood Memorial Park anymore, like it had been in Jameson's day. It was now the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and Seán had no idea where he was going. After wandering for a while, he came across two names he recognised.
JACKSON JAMESON SIOBHAN 1887 - 1932 1888 - 1984
"Hey." He stood awkwardly in front of the headstone. "I'm sorry about the Anti stuff. It was Halloween and everyone was expecting it. Can't really do a pumpkin carving video without Anti showing up. That short is one of my favourites from the ones you did though." He falters for a moment.
"I guess I should introduce myself. So... hi, I'm Seán. I'm your great-grandson, which is still crazy to think about. I remember when Granny told me we were related. It was Christmas and I was 10 or 11. I was stuck indoors and super bored so she pulls out all these photos I didn't know she had. A whole bunch of albums. You don't look right without the facial hair. Anything I've seen of you in, out of the ones that have survived, you always have the moustache. So when she shows me a picture where you're super young, like 19 or something, what was I supposed to think? That wasn't you. You weren't... you yet. Which I'm sure makes absolutely no sense."
"It's funny, I'd heard of you because a lot of people have. But when Granny asked if I'd heard of her brother or sisters, nope, not a clue. For a second, she even looked at me like I really needed educating. Which, to be fair, I did. It never clicked why she got all her collection of little animal sculptures as gifts from their creator. I never met any of them. Although, I definitely went to Anthony's funeral with my mother. But that was more on behalf of Granny because she was in hospital. It wasn't like she had to wait that long before seeing him again. My Way is played at funerals ad nauseum so when the video he'd prepared started playing, I rolled my eyes. But, you know what, it was a good pick, given everything he tried to help do in the 50s and 60s. It suited him. I still don't believe he was friends with Sinatra. I swear that was just some story Granny made up to make a 10 year old boy think his great uncle was cool."
Sean finds he is subconsciously seating himself on the grass. It's not quite so daunting now.
"I'm a performer too. Well, I am and I'm not. We have these things called computers now. We can use them for all sorts of things like research, communication and even games. That's where people like me come in. I play a game, record myself doing it and then put it up on the internet for anyone to watch. For some reason, 20 million people have decided they like what I give them. I'm not complaining, it's just insane that so many people want to watch my stuff in the first place. A lot of them are so creative. The art, oh my god, the art. You would not believe the kind of things that come from me just goofing around."
"The tour's one of those things. It's a comedy show where I work out how I became the Jacksepticeye they know today. I've already been all over America. There's only one leg left, the one around Europe. It ends in good ol' Ireland, home sweet home. There's no way I'm not going to go back to all the places I talk about from my childhood. They'll be no rush. Besides, it's not like-" He stops, a deep sigh escaping. "It's not like I have a dog or something that needs me to rush back to Brighton. I'll be able to see Malcolm in Paris though. As for the other three, I'll hopefully hang out with them in Ireland."
"The community was one of the reasons I was a little hesitant to go through with my plans to recreate 'Craving For Beginners'. The community gets so into those kind of videos. And it was going to be personal, no matter what I did. At the same time, it was going to be your 130th birthday, Jameson. So after a bunch of going back and forth, I decided to say screw it. There wasn't much for me to lose. It was just a fun tribute and I wanted to do another pumpkin video. I dressed up as you, posted the teaser photographs on Instagram and suddenly, everyone was getting excited. I took forever to finally say he was an ego. I didn't really want to make him one. It was just one video made for the hell of it, you know. None of the others are based on a real person. Took me until March to tell myself he was a parody of the Jolly Gentleman and therefore fair game. The drawings I've seen since then have been amazing. I swear I saw a Mirror of Erised piece at some point with me instead of Harry Potter. You'd be surprised how many have drawn you looking fondly on or a comparison of my JJ and the real Jolly Gentleman."
"You know, they have a museum in Saint John. It's not only for you, Jameson. It's more... for the three of you. I guess it's kind of Saint John's way of saying 'Hey, these three actors that you might have heard of came from here'. I visited back in July, after performing at the Just For Laughs festival. It had a bunch of old photographs and letters, all donated by the family, of course. There's a small section on Thaddaeus House for the Disadvantaged, which is still functional by the way. This woman that worked there was super enthusiastic. She liked telling me everything about every photograph I looked at. And I thought I was over the top at times. One thing I will say, while it's cool that there's a photograph from the 1890s, when your family didn't have access to that kind of thing, I'm glad society and mortality rates have moved on so pictures like that aren't a thing anymore. God, it would be like if Alison had to sit next to me after I'd... you know. Yeah, that change was for the better. Apart from all that, it was a really interesting visit. Oh, one of the letters mentioned you visiting Ireland and briefly staying at a 'geometrically challenged village' in County Offaly." He laughs at the phrase. Who knows how many times it's made him chuckle. "Yeah, that's Cloghan for you."
Seán pauses, unsure what he wants to say next. He should talk about the book. He didn't bring it all the way to Los Angeles just for the sake of it. The problem is how to transition from the museum to his grandmother's favourite children's book. From seemingly nowhere, thoughts of the soldier brothers show up. His mouth begins moving before he's fully aware of it.
"This one time I was telling Granny about this game called Metal Gear Solid. There's a bit of violence involved. Guns and explosives, that kind of thing. Immediately, and I mean immediately, she starts going on about the medals. 'Don't go breaking your poor mother's heart like that, will you, Seán.' Do I honestly look like someone who'd sign up? Even back then, I was too busy playing videos games or running around like an idiot to think about doing something like that when I was older. Granny would have been in her late teens when it happened so I'm not surprised it stuck with her. She always insisted you were doing somersaults down there. Not sure where the actual medals are now though."
"One thing I do have is this." That's it. Well done, Seán. Good transition. From his bag, he pulls out the worn old book that had seen decades of use. "First edition, signed. She never got rid of it. I'll admit it's seen better days but it has been over 80 years. If I looked hard enough, I could probably find the sellotaped pages from when Uncle Dennis was tiny and got his hands on it. She took it with her to Ireland when she was a girl, read it to her kids and then let us read it when we were little. Every time I went there for the holidays or whatever, there it was. She had the other editions too. But this was the one she cared the most about. When her leg got infected, she couldn't recognise me and soon she was just... gone. I was, uh, 16, I think? We were all clearing the house because Gramps had died before I was born so it was going to be empty. We're packing all her books into boxes, you know, and I pick up this one. I don't know why but I start flicking through it, which leads to me actually reading a bit of it and Mum telling me I should go home and do homework or whatever if I wasn't going to help. It's technically Mum's now. God knows why Granny specifically picked Mum to pass it down to. Maybe because she's the eldest? It can't be because I was still at home. Hazel's the youngest grandchild. Either way, when I asked Mum if I could take this to LA, she told me she'd have my head if anything happened to it. I don't blame her. This isn't a heirloom as such, at least I don't see it as an heirloom, but it definitely has a hell of a lot of sentimental value. Without a doubt, her favourite scene is the one about rescheduling."
"Granny cared. Mum might not be that fussed about being your granddaughter but Granny tried to get us interested. I mean, Siobhan, I think you lived long enough to meet three of us so you had a little hand in that. I don't know if she saw what I could become but she definitely noticed I was likely to become a big fan of your movies. Which, in fact, I did. It's a good thing she was the youngest of your children, especially with siblings so much older than her. Whenever I felt fed up with everyone leaving home, she was there to remind me one day I'd be an adult who could visit my brothers and sisters whenever I wanted. She also understood my worries about Dad. I know I'm going to have to say goodbye to him sooner than most people. The guy's 82 now and only 9 years younger than her. She'd just tell me stories she'd heard about the two of you. Made me feel better most of the time."
He stays there for a few minutes. It's nearly lunchtime now and the sun is getting stronger. He should probably wrap this up and find somewhere in the shade to eat. He's practically exhausted all topics he wanted to talk about. Packing the book into his bag again, he slowly gets up.
"Thanks for all the stuff you made. I know some of it was lost because that kind of thing is somewhat inevitable after such a long time. I wish everything had survived but the stuff that did last is still great today. Back when I was a kid, I used my connection to you as bragging rights. 'I'm related to someone famous and you're not', that sort of thing. I don't think I said it enough to sound like an asshole but... I said it enough. I'm sorry for the namedropping. The truth is, I'm proud to say I'm your great-grandson. It's pretty cool, knowing we're related. So, yeah... thank you for everything. Especially for not stopping at six kids because uh, kinda wouldn't be here if you had. Maybe I should swing by again one day. Depends on how things work out. I'll see you."
Seán heads back to the entrance, glad to have spent some time with his family.

September 19, 2018
I didn’t wake up until 11:54. What is going on? I know I don’t sleep until 2:30am, but this is ridiculous. I think it’s a combination of melancholy, uncomfortableness because of the heat/humidity, and excitement. It’s so odd. The first thing I did today was walk the long way across the river in order to pass Tiber Island. Yes, there’s a small island in Rome — it’s in the middle of the Tiber, and it’s something I learned about on the first day of Italian class and have never forgotten. #AlessandraWouldBeProud :) I must say, L’Isola Tiberina did not live up to the hype; it was surprisingly crowded and really dirty, but there was a very old church and another old building there, which was neat to pass by. My first stop was the Colosseum…but it took a while to get there. I passed by SO many ruins, it was great. I saw the Temple of Portunus, Theater of Marcelius, and the Temple of Apollo Sosianus as I walked to Capitoline Hill and Piazza Campidoglio. Capitoline Hill was marvelous. One of “le sette colline di Roma” (another thing I learned on the first day of Italian class!), its Piazza Campidoglio was designed by none other than Michelangelo. You know, casual. I looked out from there onto the Roman Forum, seeing the many temples, pools, streets, basilicas, and arches. Then I walked a long ways to get to the Colosseum. I wasn’t able to go inside — the line was very long, but honestly, my feet were #dying by this point and I’d rather not shuffle through crowds. At the base of the Colosseum is the Arch of Constantine, where I sat for a few moments to regroup and decide where to go next. (Sidenote: Constantine, man. None of this would have happened without you. 313 AD? The Edict of Milan? Making Christianity LEGAL?? You did that. We all have to say thank you.) After the Colosseum, I walked to Oppian Hill, another one of the seven hills, and spent some time enjoying the greenery. (Mind you, it was raining off and on, so areas like this were practically empty.) Luckily I caught it at a dry moment, and sat down in the Piazza Martin Lutero and read a bit of my book. Oh yeah, the PIAZZA MARTIN LUTERO. I was shaking — who would’ve thought that the most Catholic country to ever exist would have a piazza dedicated to the man who initiated it’s downfall? I guess it’s compassion. From the park I walked to la Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli — and I WAS NOT PREPARED TO SEE SUCH AN EXQUISITE PLACE. Like, yes, I’d just been to the Vatican. But I was expecting to see a lot there. I just stumbled into this church, nothing marvelous from the outside, BUT THEN THERE’S MICHELANGELO’S MOSES INSIDE? AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FRESCO OVER THE NAVE? I couldn’t handle it (which you can probably tell from the all caps). One thing stuck out to me there the most, though — Cardinal Cinzio Passeri Aldobrandini’s tomb. Now it didn’t stick out because he’s a famous figure, and it wasn’t necessarily because it’s the prettiest tomb I’ve ever seen (although it is elaborate). It’s decorated with this massive life-size Grim Reaper on top of it, an allegorical skeletal representation of Death. And that just got to me. I don’t know, I think it’s because I’m not used to the personification of death seen much in religious art (or at all, for that matter), so to think that whoever built this tomb (whether it was in the Cardinal’s wishes or not) wanted to glorify him by constructing this figure made me think. l was reminded of a Dickinson poem with the opening line: ”Because I could not stop for Death — he kindly stopped for me.” (Sophomore year American literature coming into play whilst at a very Eurocentric place? Okay, subconscious, I like that.) Seeing all of the popes’ tombs yesterday, coupled with this…wow, humans really have something to prove, I guess — even when they’re dead. After this church, I walked to another church: Santa Maria Maggiore. I couldn’t go inside, but it was gorgeous. How can there possibly be this much architectural beauty LITERALLY EVERYWHERE? I ate gelato again. At a place called Fatamorgana. Are you even going to ask which flavor? This was the lightest color so far, but the flavor was still strong. Not too strong though. A very good nocciola. Now I started my 30 minute walk home. On the way, I popped into Palazzo Venezia (which is not in Venice). IT WAS SO PRETTY. They had a brilliant piazza area with gorgeous palm trees. This area also had the Basilica di San Marco (because he’s the patron saint of Venice) and I stopped inside. It was very old, very pretty, and very dark. I guess they can’t illuminate the church too much since the artwork is so old. But they had the most beautiful stations of the cross I’ve ever seen. They’re INCREDIBLE low-relief renderings — so so so wonderful. Then, a few blocks from my Airbnb, I stopped into the Basilica di San Crisogono. I pass this church everyday on the way across the Tiber and the door is never open. Until tonight. I’m glad I went inside; it feels like the perfect end to my stay in Trastevere. It was a quiet, small church, and an elderly woman was sitting in the front pew saying the rosary. Proof that there still are some of them left. I’m thrilled to be embarking on the next phase of my journey. A presto, Roma!

2019 in recap
January
I was in my 8th semester and I got a chance to teach students from Mappi, Papua. It was actually for my SPD class and it was the only thing we got. My team and I had tried to put our proposal to some hotels but we were rejected. We got paid but not much, way less than what I wanted, but it’s fine. We finished our class, that’s what mattered the most.
I also taught in my Junior High School for the first time. Feeling weird coming back as a teacher, I must confess. I did not have a good time there as a student.
Oh, I also got a tattoo (professionally) and I was sooo satisfied with it.
February
Nothing much happened but it was my birthday and I felt surprisingly fine. I was usually sad during my birthday, I would go by myself, wandering, getting lost. That time, I think for the first time, we went out to have dinner on my birthday.
March
I went abroad, to Yangon, Myanmar, with VIA! It was an alumni summit and I had new friends. One of them is still in contact with me and has been helping me with storytelling stuff. She is so cool. It was one of a life-changing moment for me because the people who attended it were so inspiring and instead of making me feel little, I was actually inspired by them. I wanted to do something useful for my community, like what they do to theirs.
Also, I got the chance to see my dad’s last performance with his group, Kuaetnika. I was actually working as an usher but I still managed to peep a little bit.
April
Again, I don’t think many things happened here but my boyfriend and I got married as a joke and surprised my parents, especially my mum. My dad knew that it was a joke obviously and made fun of me instead.
I got the chance to see my dad’s last theatre with Gandrik. The lighting was so mesmerizing. I told my dad about it and he said that he was inspired by The Lion King Broadaway that he saw when he was in New York for two months in 2014.
May
I tattooed my self because I was bored. I put two little hearts above both of my ankles just because I want to have the nickname “Karola and the Blackhearts” ;)
An internet friend of mine came to Jogja and stayed at my house because he wanted an escape from his job. He only stayed for a night and read his poem in this poetry event which I attended for the first time.
June
As always, I went to my cousins’ house on Eid’s Day. My uncle finally gave us my grandpa’s little notebook when he was a bartender so you can guess what’s in it. We haven’t tried any of the recipe tho.
July
I became a volunteer in one of organisations focusing on library facilities. So far, we have been giving to 8 schools. It was really fun driving around Jogja and see the school conditions.
We celebrated my dad’s last birthday.
August
My boyfriend and I celebrated our 5th anniversaries. We didn’t talk for about two weeks before celebrating it because he didn’t come to my dad’s birthday--which I had every reason to be mad at, later.
I also joined a student buddy where I knew lots of new people and I could make friends from there! Some of them helped me proofread my paper because well, they’re native in English.
September
This was when #GejayanMemanggil happened and I joined it! The first event, I went with my sister and apparently my little sister was there too. I never joined that kind of rally before and it was amazing to see that many people fighting for the right thing.
I also did my first counselling session because I had a difficulty in finishing my paper. It was really helpful, not only in doing my paper but in many other aspects too.
October
I had my last consultation with my advisor! I had to do that outside my campus but it was worth it and I only had 2 days to prepare the whole thing before I put my paper for desk evaluation. Totally worth it.
November
I finally did my thesis defense!! The examiners didn’t give me a lot of revisions which was good. The defense went really great. I was really relieved that the examiners were very kind (not those scary lecturers who would question you nonsense things).
I did it in the morning and didn’t leave campus until midday. After that, I celebrated it with my boyfriend until quite late. When I was home, my mum gave me a bouquet of flowers and told me that dad just left and he had been waiting for me because he wanted to congratulate me.
I thought to myself, “It’s fine, I can meet him tomorrow.”
I did. My dad was laying in his bed, no heartbeat.
My sister woke me up around 3 in the morning and after that, we kept trying to get an ambulance. It took us minutes to get one but when they arrived, they told us that he was already dead.
I never regretted something before, but now I regret that I thought we still had tomorrow.
December
I got A for my final paper. I have finished almost everything related to campus stuff. I also got a job, my first teaching job after I graduated. Again, I work in a place where I was a student once twice.
We celebrated Christmas without dad for the first time. It was not easy for all of us, but we had to. We have to continue our routine without him. We also did our second secret santa but now we did it without my sister because she couldn’t be home for christmas because she had a gig to play.
This year has been tough. If there’s anything I learn from this year is that I have to keep wearing my armour because I’ll never know when life hits me or how hard it can hit me.
I am ready for your shit, 2020.

There Were A LOT of Horror Stories from the September 2017 LSAT
Imagine this: You, a proud Idahoan, have spent months preparing for the LSAT, which the Law School Admission Council said would be held on Saturday, September 16, the year of our Lord Kellye Testy two thousand and seventeen, and would begin promptly at 8:30 am, Mountain Daylight Time. You purchased a not-inexpensive admission ticket, which again repeated the precise time at which you would report to your testing center at Boise State University. You studied vigorously to prepare for the test.
The process of studying was a good deal more challenging than you anticipated. However, a lifetime spent amongst the orthogonal lines of the Boise crop fields and in the flat topology of the Midwest instilled in you a hardened pragmatism that helped you engage in the sober logical thinking required for the exam. In the end, you felt prepared.
You woke up on September 16, ate a breakfast of boiled potatoes, and drove to the testing center, passing the famous cobalt blue football field at Bronco Stadium. You wondered why coastal elites continued to demean Idahoans by insisting birds constantly dive bomb into the turf, mistakenly believing it is a body of water. This thought is an omen.
You reach the check-in location LSAC told you to find by 8:30 am. However, once you reach the location, you realize that you, and hundreds of similarly prepared law school hopefuls just like you, will not be let into the building. The doors to the building, the gates that would open for you a legal career, are locked. No one gives explanation. After several hours, you drive home, defeated, pondering why the Lord Kellye Testy has smote you. Days pass, and eventually you receive an email from LSAC. “Sorry ’bout that, fam,” it reads. “I guess you can take a make-up test on October 14.”
Or, worse still: Imagine you, a resolute and determined denizen of Savannah, Georgia, have planned your entire summer around studying for the September LSAT. You put aside the frivolities of your peers during the months of July, August, and September. The summer will not be a time for strolls through the gothic drapes of Spanish moss, enveloping branches of live oak, or blooming white flowers of magnolia in Savannah’s historic district. It will be a time for study.
Studying is a difficult process. But you look to the rivers and tributaries that wrap around Savannah like tentacles of the Atlantic and give the Savannah wetlands their rich biodiversity. You imagine them as founts of knowledge, logical acumen being pumped into you from these riparian sources. You look eastward to the Isle of Hope and it gives you the resolve to learn how to diagram a syllogism, how to strengthen arguments, and how to approach a Reading Comprehension passage.
You wake-up on September 16 feeling as prepared as you will ever be. You opt out of enjoying a breakfast of your mother’s famous but insalubrious biscuits and gravy, instead washing down a peach and a handful of boiled peanuts with a Coca-Cola. You drive to Savannah State University. Unlike your spiritual foil in Boise, you are permitted to enter your testing center. You take your exam. Yes, Reading Comprehension was more difficult than expected, but you know you that you vanquished the Logic Games section. You hand your test packet to the exam proctor, who has sworn a sacred oath to guard and protect your test packet through its transit to LSAC headquarters.
But most importantly, you are finished with the LSAT. The night becomes alive with possibility. You are invigorated. You spend your evenings with your friends, imbibing sweet elixirs with reckless abandon. Ailing mornings are spent with Netflix, allowing the “Next episode starts in” timer trickle down from 14 to 1, time and time again. Your mind, previously sharpened to fine point through your studies, begins to dull from disuse.
Eventually you check your email. You find a harried message from LSAC. “Yo, don’t hate us, it’s actually kinda funny and maybe one day you’ll laugh about this lol,” it begins, inauspiciously. “So that test booklet with all your answers and work that you gave to your proctor? Uhhh we kinda lost it. Yeah, for you and everyone at Savannah State. So we can’t score your LSAT. Yeah dude we don’t know what happened either smdh. But we got u! We’ll let you take the exam again in a couple weeks on October 14, or you can take it again in December. And no worries, you don’t have to pay again. Cool, our bad!”
These things actually happened to students who took (or attempted to take) the September LSAT at Boise State University and Savannah State University. And they weren’t alone. Hurricane Irma closed many testing centers in Florida, and although some of the testing centers were opened in time for students to take a make-up exam the following week on September 23, many students had to wait until October 14 to retake. Oh, and in what is yet another sign that the end is nigh for this little American experiment of ours, test takers in Richmond, Virginia couldn’t take the LSAT because a bunch of white supremacists decided they had to protest the removal of confederate statues, weeks after Charlottesville.
So there are a lot of — one thousand, according to LSAC’s estimates — students who couldn’t take the test as planned, through no fault of their own. This, as you imagine, has left a lot of students quite angry. Just take a look at this Reddit thread about the Savannah State snafu to get a glimpse of student response. And lest you believe this is an isolated incident, there have been many past horror stories as well. For the December 2015 test, they lost a bunch of exams from the UC Santa Barbara testing location. In 2012, the same thing happened in Tampa (apparently LSAC has trouble collecting tests from coastal inlets). And this is to say nothing of the typical issues test takers face, from clueless proctors to bad testing centers.
And this really isn’t a good look for LSAC right now. They’re already losing ground to the GRE, with the count of law schools accepting the GRE now up to six, and many more promising they’ll do the same. Can you blame these schools at this point? These poor test takers in Savannah had to dedicate their summer to studying in what I can only assume were rooms made swampy and dank by Southern humidity, only to find out it was all for naught. They then got the choice to try to cram for the LSAT over the next couple weeks or undergo the same study process all over again for the December exam. Of course they’re going to be pissed. Their blood would boil faster than a Georgia peanut. And I don’t think they were consoled by a free admission-ticket to take the exam again on October 14 or in December. So of course they’re going to look to the GRE, which you can take whenever you feel like it, as a more alluring test.
So what should LSAC do? Well, it is in the opinion of this humble blogger that LSAC should accelerate ever-faster towards doing the LSAT digitally and year round. These Luddites can’t seem to handle paper test booklets anymore, so maybe it’s time to enter the digital age. Plus, administering the LSAT just four times a year (and, eventually, six times a year) forces students to plan large chunks of their year around the test. Which puts way more pressure on LSAC to make every testing location flawless, which, well, is demonstrably impractical.
If the LSAT goes digital, LSAC can fix a ton of these problems. The test can be administered like the GRE, allowing students flexibility with their schedule. If something goes wrong with a testing center, that would still suck, but at least the student would be able to take the test again within the next few days when she still felt practiced, prepared, and ready to go. Instead of relying on proctors to transport the scores to LSAC, the score could be given instantaneously. Students wouldn’t have to spend the several weeks between test day and the infamous “grey day” (wherein the boxes on their LSAC account go grey, signaling that the score is about to be released) stressing out and wondering if they’ll have to take the exam again in several months.
So let’s get to it, LSAC. Reports from digital test pilot centers have mostly been positive, with most claiming there are only a few kinks that need to be ironed out. So, let’s remember those Boiseans, Savannahians, Richmonders, and Floridians, and give them a test they can actually take.

off the rack #1227
Monday. August 27, 2018
I noticed that the leaves are starting to change already. It seems early this year. Change is on the horizon and it's the only constant if life as they say. I seem to be more anxious as I get older when my comfortable routines are disrupted. I'm okay if I get fair warning to prepare myself but find that I freak out a little when something gets sprung on me. I used to be able to just go with the flow but avoiding even minor annoyances is what I most desire now. Maybe I'm turning into a clam. Thank god for family and friends who get me out of my shell.
Silencer #8 - Dan Abnett (writer) Patrick Zircher (art) Mike Spicer (colours) Tom Napolitano (letters). Hell-iday Road part 1. Honor's mission to kill Talia runs into some unexpected resistance. I love the surprise department of Leviathan that pops up to complicate things and the Freaky Friday twist. It's rare that a brand new character strikes my fancy and this one does.
Old Man Hawkeye #8 - Ethan Sacks (writer) Marco Checchetto (art) Andres Mossa (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Eye For An Eye part 8. This issue features a stupendous battle between Bullseye and the Winter Soldier. It sets up the face to face next issue for Clint and Bullseye that I've been waiting for.
The Life of Captain Marvel #2 - Margaret Stohl (writer) Marguerite Sauvage (art flashbacks) Carlos Pacheco (pencils present day) Rafael Fonteriz (inks present day) Marcio Menyz (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). There's a lot of family drama to slog through before any action happens. Next issue should be more exciting with the super powered alien landing on Earth and going on the hunt. I'm guessing that Carol is the prey.
West Coast Avengers #1 - Kelly Thompson (writer) Stefano Caselli (art) Triona Farrell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Please welcome the latest team of West Coast Avengers to the racks with a big hand of applause. I liked this a lot but it's not quite standing ovation material. Kate Bishop assembles a team of super heroes to keep Los Angeles safe and they sure are a fun bunch. The core is made up of Kate/Hawkeye, her boyfriend Fuse, America and part-timer Clint/Hawkeye. The new members are Gwenpool and Quentin Quire ex-X-Man. I'm glad that Stefano Caselli is back on the racks. I was a big fan of his art on Ultimate Spider-Man. This book centered around Hollywood means that there are major media and pop culture references which makes things fun. It's the attack of the fifty foot woman as a giant sized Tigra menaces Santa Monica. I can't wait to find out more about B.R.O.D.O.K. next issue. I'm adding this to my "must read" list.
Sandman Universe #1 - Neil Gaiman (story) Simon Spurrier, Kat Howard, Nola Hopkinson and Dan Watters (writers) Bilquis Evely, Tom Fowler, Dominike "Domo" Stanton, Max Fiumara and Sebastian Fiumara (art) Mat Lopes (colours) Simon Bowland (letters). Man, how I've missed these characters. Lucien the librarian, Mervyn the pumpkin-headed janitor, Matthew the raven, Tim Hunter the boy magician and all the other fascinating inhabitants of the Dreaming. I don't remember Dora so she might be new. This $4.99 US anthology will introduce you to four new comic books based on Neil Gaiman's wonderful creations. The Dreaming #1 hits the racks on September 5. House of Whispers #1 on September 12. Lucifer #1 October 17 and Books of Magic on October 24 which Ottawa's own Tom Fowler will be illustrating. Sandman fans should be very pleased.
Die Die Die #2 - Robert Kirkman (writer) Scott M. Gimple (co-plot) Chris Burnham (art) Nathan Fairbairn (colours) Rus Wooton (letters). I haven't read a comic book with this much explicit violence since The Boys. It's a sign of a good comic when you can tell the origin story of three maybe four identical brother assassins in two pages. There's a lot of sibling rivalry which makes this story very interesting.
Punisher #1/LGY #229 - Matthew Rosenberg (writer) Szymon Kudranski (art) Antonio Fabela (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). World War Frank part 1. Frank has gone through many changes recently. He's the Cosmic Ghost Rider now for instance. My favourite incarnation has always been the gun toting vigilante going after the bad guys and surviving every single attempt to stop him from killing. Matt brings back that bad ass to the racks and I'm happy. Frank fights Baron Zemo, Hydra and the Roxxon Corporation in this relaunch and it's just as bloody good as Die Die Die. The death of a major super villain here was a big surprise.
Action Comics #1002 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Patrick Gleason (art) Alejandro Sanchez (colours) Josh Reed (letters). Invisible Mafia part 2. I like a good mystery thrown into a comic book to keep me interested and this issue has two. The cloudy demon is one because Superman is vulnerable to supernatural things. The surprise reunion on the last page is the other. This is the first time that Brian Bendis has given me that gotcha feeling in his DC work.
Avengers #6/LGY #696 - Jason Aaron (writer) Ed McGuinness & Paco Medina (pencils) Mark Morales & Juan Vlasco (inks) David Curiel (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). "Planet of Pathogens" will give you a hint as to how the Avengers cure the Earth of the Horde infestation and defeat the Celestials. Boy, that was a close call. Next issue promises the origin of the Spirit of Vengeance, the very first Ghost Rider. I'm not a fan of Ghost Rider being on the team. I also don't like the new version of She-Hulk either. If it wasn't for the awesome art I would bench this book.
Mr. & Mrs X #2 - Kelly Thompson (writer) Oscar Bazaldua (art) Frank D'Armata (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). Love and Marriage part 2. The newlyweds team up, albeit reluctantly, with Deadpool to protect the egg. First of all, how did Deadpool wind up in space? Never mind, it's a comic book. They have to keep the egg out of the hands of Technet, a team of bad guys. How do they just happen to be out in space too? I love Oscar's art so I'm going to ignore all these silly coincidences and find out how this story ends.
Amazing Spider-Man #4/LGY #805 - Nick Spencer (writer) Ryan Ottley (pencils) Cliff Rathburn (inks) Laura Martin (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Back to Basics part 4. One look at the cover and I was thinking "didn't Marvel learn from the Clone Saga?". That was one of the most panned Spider-Man storylines and here they are doing it again. I am happy to report that this split isn't going to last as long and hopefully the Isotope Genome Accelerator will be mothballed for good after this. If they merge Spider-Man and Peter Parker back together in a dumb way I will not be very forgiving.

Car insurance questions!?!!? HELP! accident!?
Hey, three weeks ago, I got into a car accident and rear ended someone in the front with suv. I had a honda, and the insurance company declared it totaled and they are going to pay around 9k for the car. Since it was rear-end accident, insurance company held me for 100% at fault. The suv had broken/dented bumper and lower part of trunk lid dented (No broken lights or anything). I would say around few thousand dollars worth of damage. There were 3 people in the car and at the time they said they are all ok, and drove off. No police report was filed. When I called at night to get one of the guy's birthday, he said all three went to emergency, and had whiplash pain in neck area (which is understandable from rear-end accident). I had full coverage so I know my insurance comp. would pay their bills. The thing I am scared about is what if they sue me? I am from low-class family and a full time student on loans so I have no money or even a job. If they do, how much can they sue me for?""

What does 'annual deductible' mean for health insurance?
Hey guys so I just want to get this straight because we are looking at purchasing new insurance... When it says Annual Deductible; $7500 does that mean after I paid that amount within the calendar year, then the insurance would kick in and start paying some of the cost? Is this still true with any type of doctor visit like routine checkups and stuff? It also says this regarding that Member pays $30 Copay or 30% after deductible (applies to the 3 office visit copay limit) . Can someone give me an explanation? It doesn't seem like this is a good option if I would have to pay $7500 before any insurance kicks in right?""

I am 16 in June. I own a mustang lx but it is the 2.3l model that my company geico doesn't classify dangerous or a sports car. My dad has wonderful credit. The car and insurance is in his name. So is my car ad tittle and tag. Basically to keep costs down everything is tech his. I will be listed as driving 10-15% of the time As a secondary driver. His driving record is clear and great credit. He has a jeep patriot 2013 and my 1989 lx mustang will be the 2nd car. They got a brand new car and his credit when checked was about the best possible. Car Insurance Company Refuses to Insure my Brother!?
So, my brother got into a car accident about 3 years ago. He was driving his car and a motorcyclist ran into him doing around 90 mph, causing the bike to flip and the guy on the bike to dismount and skid across the freeway. The motorcyclist was lucky he didn't get run over or killed. It was deemed by both the insurance companies that it was the motorcyclists fault and when the motorcyclist tried to sue our insurance company, we got a letter from our attorney that the case had been dismissed and no further action was needed. Today, we got a call out of the blue from Mercury saying my brother couldn't be on the insurance anymore because they had settled with the motorcyclist for $100,000 and basically, if we didn't get him off the insurance, my whole family would be removed. We didn't receive any notification that Mercury was planning on paying this guy out or that our rates would be altered. We called the attorney's office but he wasn't in and we explained the situation and the receptionist said they might of just settled anyway without letting us know even though this whole thing wasn't even my brother's fault. My question is, if the accident was the fault of the motorcyclist and when the motorcyclist initially sued and was denied a settlement (there was no mention of a settlement on the attorney's letter; it just said that it was dismissed), how and why would Mercury give this jacka$$ $100,000 and deny my brother coverage? It's all very confusing and any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!""

This is what I have found the HMO premiums are just too high but none have deductibles. The PPO plans all have deductibles but the premiums are lower. PPO Deductibles $2500 cost $188 a month,20% coinsurance $5000 cost $164 a month, 20% coinsurance PPO Advantage Deductibles $1500 - $142 a month, 20% coinsurance $2500 - $120 a month, 20 coinsurance Right now I'm leaning towards the lowest deductible advantage plan at 1500 @142 a month and a 3000 out of pocket max. It seems reasonable all the preventative care, primary and specialist are all copays w/out deductibles so say I never go tot he hospital I'm basically just paying a monthly premium and the copay. My issue is I have gone uninsured before and knock on wood nothing happened never even needed to use a cvs minute clinic. But as I approached 30 I realized maybe I should get health care for myself just in case. I do have the !500 set aside in an account that was supposed to be a splurge fund for vacation but now it may also just be a medical fund. Anyways, based on the above all co-pays are $30 and $50 for specialist. Do they sound reasonable?? Insurance is so hard to understand *sigh*""

Where can I find car insurance prices?
I'm doing this project in my class and we chose the procedures if someone was texting and driving and crashes another person. I got car insurance and I need to find out how much it cost for car insurance and all the procedures it will take and how much it will cover for the accident and by how much the insurance is going to raise. I tried looking on google but it keeps saying sending me to cheap insurance. Does anyone know of a good website that can help me. Thanks a lot
Will these cars cost more to insure?
So im looking to buy my first car. The deal is I pay for the car, my parents cover the insurance, but they wont let me get a SUV or sporty car because then they have to pay more. I was looking at a Toyota Celica or Hyundia Tiburon (I kinda want a coupe so my friends wont be bumming rides all the time because ill be the only one with a car). Is this true? I mean, even the 4-cylinder 2.0L automatic models? Will these models still be considered a sports car even with the wimpy specs or were my parents mistaken? I was also looking at a Chevy Cobalt LS coupe, which is pretty much the same as the others, and my dad said it was cheaper to insure?""
Car Insurance?

I don't care about the whole they take forever to get back to you and stuff I just don't wanna randomly be dropped, being that it's only for 6 months....... anyone know anything about esurance? 3 weeks, 4 cities and 2 horrific creatures
Palma EVS - Part 13
November 21th – December 11th
3 weeks have passed since my last post and tons of stuff happened during that time. If you decide to stick around you can read about: life in the apartment without the girls, visiting Manchester and having a family meeting there, going to my mid-term training, visiting Granada & Málaga, getting sick by the end of the vacation and not one, but two evil creatures that caused nightmares to a lot of Hungarian children.
After Pier came back from his vacation in Tenerife we were 6 in the piso once again, but only for a very short time, because all 4 of the girls had their on-arrival training the following week. Since the arrival of the first 2 girls (Steffie and Malin) in the middle of September we got used to sharing the apartment with others, so living there only with Pier was sort of unusual. It was also very different from our first weeks in Palma, because back in July and August we were out in the city, discovering the place basically every day and that was not the case this time, when we spent our days in a very boring way. At least we had a good reason for it. And that reason: we were working a lot in the office to be ready with Acción Balear's brand new newsletter in time. I was creating some folders about EVS projects for it and Pier's job was to put the whole thing together and prepare it to be sent. At the end we finished in time, so our trip to Manchester was sort of a celebration.
We arrived there late in the evening of Thursday (24th of November). While for me the English end of fall weather was kind of refreshing and brought back some memories that wasn't really the case for Pier who clearly prefers the kind of fall/winter temperatures that we have in Palma.
On our first full day in the city we prepared ourselves for the day with an English breakfast before we headed to Old Trafford, the stadium of Manchester United. While we were waiting for the stadium tour we had some time to go and see the Christmas market in front of The Lowry. After we did that we also had a pint in a nearby pub and after spending there more time than we should have we managed to miss the start of our stadium tour, so the 2 of us were escorted through the hidden paths inside Old Trafford by a staff member to catch our group. Probably a lot more memorable start to a tour, where the best part is usually towards the end. By the way the tour was really cool as it was an opportunity to see a stadium that I'm seeing quite often when I watch football on TV. It's interesting that in reality the stadium feels a lot smaller than you would think when you picture a stadium with more than 75.000 seats. It also makes me really want to go London to see the stadium (White Hart Lane) of my favorite team before it gets knocked down.
After finishing with the tour we had enough time to visit the famous John Rylands Library, the People's History Museum and most of the Manchester Art Gallery as well. After it got dark we went to check out the Christmas market on Albert Square, then I tried my first proper fish & chips. After all that Pier and me improvised and went for a pub crawl, because that's obviously what you should do when you go to the UK and have some free time at night. We got beer, company and some advice from 3 girls on what places we should (London, Bristol) and should not (Blackpool) visit in the country next time. Let me know if you agree/disagree with all that.
The next day we met with my sister and her boyfriend, who are living near Wigan, but traveled to Manchester for a quick visit in the city and to have a mini family meeting. We spent some time shopping, I got a much needed new traveling bag and some early Christmas presents from my sis. Then we visited the National Football Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry. Saturday went by quickly and after saying goodbye to them, me and Pier rushed to the airport to end our short British trip and travel back to Palma.
Back in Spain we had a little time to rest, but due to the upcoming mid-term training that started on the 28th of November it was more about preparing for those days.
On Monday Pier and me left Palma in the morning and flew to Málaga in the company of our mentor, Xavi, who also participated in the training that was held in Mollina. Our meeting time was in the afternoon, when we finally met some familiar faces from the on-arrival training and some new people, who are also doing their EVS in Spain. After actually arriving to Mollina we were welcomed by the people who got there earlier, including some more friends.
The training itself was once again not really my cup of tea. I'm sure that discussing every single detail of our EVS process and analyzing how we can make the most of it is useful for some people but for me it's just too much talk about things that I don't feel I need to discuss. Maybe I'm just lucky not to have any problems with my voluntary service... To be fair there were some fun activities, our trainer María was great at her job and if I turn up well-rested and not having hangovers, then I might have enjoyed the whole thing more. Just like with the on-arrival training the best part of it all was the chance to get to know more volunteers and having fun together with others. So we did exactly that. We had 2 awesome nights in a local pub called Pepe Johns and we also had a nice time during the excursion to Antequera, that was part of the training.
The training lasted from Monday to Friday with the first and last days mainly used for traveling, so time flew by quickly and it was time to say goodbye to old and new friends. Luckily though we had some days to discover Granada and Málaga before we returned to continue our EVS in Palma. So we did that with our group of volunteers.
First we traveled to Granada, which is mainly famous for Alhambra, a beautiful fortress and palace. Being there was an interesting experience. Due to the hippie vibe of the city and all the tourists I had the feeling that I'm not even in Spain any more. And there was a major difference compared to Palma: the prices. If there is a problem with Mallorca, it's the relatively high prices for almost everything, so when you are a volunteer and you get to a place that's cheaper you will definitely notice it.
After 2 days in Granada we moved to Málaga, where amongst other things we witnessed the crazy Christmas lights show, we spent some time on the beach and went for a walk in the smaller part of the castle.
In general Málaga seemed like an okay place, but there is no way I would ever pick it over Palma and I fell I will be fine, if I never return there. Unfortunately by the end of the first day there I started to feel sick. Maybe I would have a more positive memory of Málaga if I manage to avoid fever, coughing and some other “good” stuff while I was there. But I didn't, so as much as I loved being around my EVS friends during the mid-term training and our short vacation after that, I didn't mind to return to Mallorca on Tuesday (December 6th).
But that day wasn't just another day. In Hungary - and a few other countries – it's the day of Santa Claus/Mikulás/Saint Nicholas. On this day – mainly kids – get a present from Mikulás if they have been good that year, or a rod/virgács from the Krampusz (the evil helper of Santa), if they have been naughty. Because every kid needs something to be terrified of. And if the Krampusz is not scary enough you can still try to scare them with the Mumus, which is described as a malicious ghost creature connected to darkness that represents your fears. Lovely, right? In Hungary we try to make sure that every child is emotionally scarred by the time they learn that the Eastern bunny doesn't exist.
Despite the threat of the Krampusz everybody loves Saint Nicholas Day. (Obviously, because everybody loves presents.) So to celebrate this holiday, I made sure to travel in style. As a reindeer. Surprisingly I didn't really notice people staring at me in the city, on the train, in the airport, on the plane, or on the bus back in Palma. But I guess wearing reindeer antlers makes you look more approachable, because first a girl asked me and Pier if she is taking the right train to the airport then continued to keep chatting with us, then later a British lady asked me to lift her bag on the conveyor belt during the security screening while she was telling us about London and her vacation in Spain. So if you want strangers to start talking to you, put on reindeer antlers, I guess. They are quite uncomfortable to wear on a plane though.
Back in Palma I spent all my time drinking tea, eating soup and sleeping before it was time to get back to work. Luckily I quickly recovered and I'm prefectly fine by now, but to find out how the story continues you will have to come back and read part 14, because this is where I end it now.
Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Numerous Dark Clouds Hover Over This Market

This vital book transcends geopolitics and rhetoric from the Fed to prepare you for what you should be watching now.]
It has been an extremely quiet time in markets. If I hadn’t checked the calendar, I might think it was the middle of August, when everyone is on vacation, instead of the middle of May, when investors and traders are still at their desks.
There’s an old expression on Wall Street: “Sell in May and go away.” The idea is that you can get out of positions before the summer and return to them in September without much change expected.
This year the expression seems to be, “Do nothing in May until further notice.” The markets are treading water, waiting for the next catalyst. As I survey the scene, markets may not have that long to wait.
On Monday, the euro briefly touched $1.10 in a relief rally after the French elections. But it just as quickly traded down to $1.08, where it had been last week prior to the vote. Gold gave up a little ground, down to $1,217 per ounce, but still well above the prior low of $1,198 on March 14, 2017.
This keeps the upward trend lines (higher highs and higher lows) from the Dec. 14, 2016, low intact, indicating gold over $1,300 in the next rally.
Stocks and Treasuries are mainly sideways, with up days and down days depending on the story du jour. The Dow Jones industrials still have not broken through their March 1, 2017 high, although they’re flirting with that level.
Volatility as measured by the VIX is at the lowest level since 1993. Shiller’s CAPE ratio equity valuation measure is at the same extreme high valuation reached in 1929 — just before the market crash that started the Great Depression. Yet complacency reigns supreme. All is well.
Or maybe not so well. The same forces that caused stocks to decline and gold to rally in April are still around. Weak growth persists due to debt, deflation and demographics — despite occasional strong quarters.
The Trump troika of fiscal stimulus, infrastructure spending and regulatory reform is still nowhere in sight. The tax cuts may be put off until 2018 at the earliest because of time spent on health care reform and now the FBI director confirmation process.
Infrastructure spending is not even being discussed on Capitol Hill. Dodd-Frank reform will be strangled in its crib by bank lobbyists. North Korea may test a new nuclear device any day. And the Fed is on track to raise rates in June and shrink their balance sheet (reducing the money supply) despite economic weakness.
This last point deserves further attention.
Many people are familiar with the Federal Reserve’s main policy tool, which is raising or lowering the target interest rate for federal funds. Federal funds are excess reserves that banks lend to each other mostly on an overnight basis. The “fed funds” rate is the base cost of money, and most other interest rates are tied to it in some manner.
In 2008, the fed funds target rate hit zero. That’s when the Fed started its “zero interest rate policy,” ZIRP, and began “quantitative easing,” or QE. The Fed ended QE in 2014 and ended ZIRP in 2015 and is now on a path to raise rates.
But there’s a disturbing legacy of the QE era that lasted from 2008–2013. QE is money printing. When the Fed prints money, it does so by buying bonds. The money used to pay for the bonds comes from thin air, and the bonds go on the Fed’s balance sheet as assets.
Today, the Fed’s balance sheet is bloated with $4.5 trillion of bonds. A “normal” balance sheet would be closer to $1.5 trillion. The Fed has to shed $3 trillion of bonds to normalize its balance sheet and prepare for future QE in a future recession.
They won’t sell bonds, but they will let existing bonds mature without buying replacements. That takes the Fed out of the Treasury market as a buyer at a time when U.S. deficits are set to increase and the Treasury will have to borrow more.
Who’s going to take up the slack in the bond market and buy all of those bonds that the Fed gobbled up for the past eight years?
Most analysts are pretending this will be a painless exercise because of the gradual seven-year timeline over which existing bonds mature. That’s nonsense. The Fed has been buying 30% of all new Treasury bonds for years. Taking the Fed out of the picture is a major tightening of monetary conditions on top of the Fed’s existing rate hike policies.
Markets have not yet begun to discount Fed balance sheet normalization.
Add up all of the above and you’ve got a recipe for a market correction at best or a recession and panic at worst.
The stock market is exhibiting a long list of bubble characteristics. Now, that doesn’t mean stocks will collapse anytime soon. Just when you think bubbles can’t persist, they do, and keep going higher until the last bear throws in the towel. Then they burst.
Whether that happens this summer or next year is impossible to say. But it will happen when you least expect it, and for no apparent reason at all (although analysts will be quick to supply made-up reasons after the fact).
With policy uncertainty prevalent and uncertainty about the timing of an inevitable stock market correction, this is a great time to increase your allocation to cash. What you give up in yield will be more than made up by avoiding losses and being able to shop for bargains when the correction comes.
Guess what? That’s what Warren Buffett’s doing.
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. now has $86 billion in cash stashed away on its balance sheet. That figure could easily grow to $100 billion later this year based on profits from existing holdings and large sales of stock in IBM and other portfolio companies.
Buffett likes to acquire large stakes in solid companies, rather than hold a diversified portfolio of small holdings. In the past, Buffett has acquired large stakes in Coca-Cola, Geico, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and other iconic companies. With $100 billion to spend (and possibly more if Buffett uses debt), he could easily buy huge companies like Nike, Costco or Unilever.
Buffett does not do hostile deals and rarely chases the market. He prefers to bide his time and pick up good companies on the cheap. Some of his most profitable deals have come at times of company distress (Salomon Bros. in 1991) or marketwide distress (Goldman in 2008).
Far from a bullish sign, Buffett’s cash hoard could mean he’s preparing for a market crash. When the crash comes, Buffett can walk through the wreckage with his checkbook open and buy great companies for a fraction of their current value.
That’s the real Buffett style, but you won’t hear that from your broker or wealth manager. If Buffett has a huge cash allocation, shouldn’t you?
He knows what’s coming. Now you do too.
Regards,
Jim Rickards for The Daily Reckoning
