Rant on Storytaco's bad writing of dark skinned characters. Specifically Sirius.

I wanna start this out with saying, I do not hate Sirius as a character. He's one of my favorites and I feel like he had wasted potential being in the hands of Storytaco. I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying Sirius as a character either! I believe however that we can enjoy media, and look at it from a critical lense. There are good things about his character and I enjoy a lot of how he was written lore wise!!! Otherwise I wouldn't be so violently obsessed with him since the age of 15 lol. But again. There are a combination of things that I can't really see as a coincidence.

If you have anything to add, or disagree with any of my points, please do not be afraid to say so! I wanna have an actual discussion about this. please I do not bite. I stand pretty firm on my points at this very moment, but I'm entirely willing to listen and change.

Fuck Storytaco?

Uh. This is 100% inspired by recent discussion on the fandoms treatment of Sirius. But I'd like to discuss why this treatment is actively perpetuated by the developers of Arcana Twilight. Which is much more disturbing to think about when you consider their games are often marketed towards minors.(There are other issues with storytaco marketing towards minors too. Uh, idk if those are relevant for this post though. Maybe later cuz it's high key disturbing!!! 😃)

Sirius was written very inconsiderately. Like I know he's a villainous/morally gray character. However I feel like there needs to be a lot more tact when your only dark skinned character is written to be not a good person. Especially in comparison to the light skinned characters. I feel like they just applied every negative trait on earth to him, then turned around and went "jk guys! He's not actually bad. Hes like this cuz he's an orphan." 😭 Like some of these traits would be fine in their own if balanced out with other things, but there's so many combined together that I can't help but feel suspicious of their intentions and bias.

He's the most provocative out of all the love interests. He's consistently initiating suggestive situations, is labeled the "sexyman", and is constantly making innuendos. The game has a lot of fan service in general (even though it's rated E), but Sirius is disproportionately portrayed this way and is just constantly going "hehe sex 😁" Which making him the provocative one is both an issue with him being queer coded and dark skinned..double whammy 😟

He's the dangerous, unpredictable and violent one. He SHOT!!! SHOT the mc within the first few floors. And like. There wasn't even a good reason behind why they decided to write that in other than to make us think he's violent/dangerous/untrustworthy. There are times when it's portrayed that he can't even be trusted alone in a room with the mc, even prior to the villain arc. 😐

He's a pretty much a domestic terrorist.... 😐

He was a wanted criminal for half of the story. Idk if I need to explain what's wrong with that either 😐

He's potentially the only one killed off at the ending depending on your interpretation.

In the clan equivalent of Americans (cough. Guns + eagles + the lazy unlikable rebellious group that just gets into trouble) which is just. Silly. 😭😒

Again he's the "untrustworthy one that nobody wants to be around." This is a point constantly driven in by the characters he's surrounded with. they drill that into the viewers head so so so much.

He's the "party animal" of the group??? Which isn't really portrayed beyond him drinking a lot but was definitely advertised as such.

He's 100% queer coded you cannot convince me otherwise. Which. Now we're falling into queer coded poc villain territory. Double whammy again! Disney is that you?

Going off the queer coded point, he's falling into "predatory gay man" territory. Hes shipped with basically every man in the game by storytaco for promotional and bait reasons. But it's always displayed as Sirius making the other party uncomfortable and getting in their personal space. Making unwanted advances. Like... Y'all don't got a do that

Ok this is possibly nitpicky but deadass why'd they make him a basketball player in the highschool au thingy. He's a theater kid. Nothing about him reads as liking sports. Please do not wear dangly earrings while playing sports??? It bothers me so much 💀

Okay so the sassy, violent, deranged, perverted terrorist... is the only romance-able dark skinned man in the game. ??? NONONO just think about that for a good moment

HE HAS OTHER THINGS IN HIS CHARACTER. THERE ARE GOOD PARTS ABOUT HIS CHARACTER!!! I LOVE SIRIUS SO MUCH. HES VERY COMPLEX AND INTERESTING.. but this is such a horrible combination of very specific negative tropes that it's hard to ignore. Especially when thinking about how this game is advertised to minors who, more often than not, are easily subjected to subconscious bias in media and are easily influenced due to our lack of ability to critically analyze media we're haphazardly consuming. (Sorry fellow minors. As a senior minor aka 17 yo it's the hard truth y'all gotta accept. we've all been there and we've been influenced by media whether we're aware of it or not. I'm not mad at y'all or belittling. Keep having ur funsies with ur silly star men I'm not stopping you lol? This is legitimate concern and criticism towards a company that is promoting weird stereotypes to us)

And I don't think Sirius is just a one off weirdly written dark skinned character from Storytaco. Thuban (WHO IS GREEEEEY. Big issue on its own 😰😭) is depicted as lazy and rude.???? Like he has a single redeeming moment but again. Just reads as "domineering rowdy black man." Especially when you look at the whole great hero trio .. he's supposed to fall within the fantasy "Fighter" archetype with his big ass mace. Compared to Polaris who is like a Cleric and the Wizard/Ranger Schedar.

Also shout out to storytacos other grey men.....???????? I was only able to find four dark skinned men (not just tanned a bit) including Sirius when I went thru Storytacos game catalogue. Two of them are grey. 😐

Anyways Sirius was a huge motivating factor in why I wanted to make Extraterrestrial... Fucked up potential of a character. There are 100% biases showing through how he was written. These were all conscious decisions made on the writers part and I don't think it can be kept behind "he's a morally gray character who's going thru it" because there were so many good ways to show that and his grief without going to every. single. extreme.

Since it looks like Ambessa will take on a more antagonistic role in arcane season two, I would like to unpack the fandom's antiblackness that you guys are either blind to or aware and too pussy to call it out as my gut is telling me it's gonna increase and if no one is gonna start the difficult conversation then I sure as hell will.

Starting off strong with the definition of "you guys want complex female characters but can't even handle her". Mel Medarda is in quite the predicament seeing how she's morally grey, a black woman, AND "gets in the way" of a mlm ship so she was kinda screwed from the start. A cunning politician disowned for her pacifism who acts as a sort of bridge to Noxus' slow introduction, and is THE ONLY CHARACTER IN THE SEASON 1 MAIN CAST SPECIFICALLY CREATED FOR THE SHOW. She's treated like satan incarnate or a Jezebel (highly suggest looking into that if you don't know what that is), GOOD character analysis is rare, and when she is talked about positively, it's so often chalked up to appearances that I'd rather yall not talk about her at all. Oh you love Mel? Then can we talk about her relationship with her mother? Unpack her dynamic with Jayce? Maybe more fanworks centered around her? I've seen yall's fake asses dropping the shittiest fucking takes about her only to turn around and gush over how pretty she is, and yall think you're slick about it and you're not. I would say I prefer the ones who are loud and proud about their hatred but that'd be a lie, they're two cheeks on the same ass; annoying and couldn't give a decent break down of her character if a gun was pointed at they head even she's perfect to dissect. I could talk about her more but we'd be here all day and so many black women even from outside the fanbase have already talked about yall so there's no need for me to add on 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️.

Quick question, have you guys ever tried to talk about her in a non sexual way? Yes, Sevika is undeniably sexy and you could argue that true stans of hers talk about her outside of horny time, but a good half of the fandom is a different story. In a similar case to Mel's, deep dives into her character are rare to find which is crazy when she acts as Zaun's own "kingmaker". She's loyal to her city and the cause, never to a specific person and will not hesitate to betray you. She could be your right hand man one day, and the next she might find a better kingpin to follow and stab you in the back like it all meant nothing. "Were you tempted?" "Not for a worm like him". Simple and subtle and probably my favorite Sevika scene; she comes to realize Silco is no longer the best leader for Zaun, but he's as good as it gets for now and so she sticks by him. I remember a YouTube comment breaking down how she's essentially the quintessential Zaun: a brute warrior molded by her environment, who defied Vander's peaceful ways and embraced Silco's cruelty. Her mindset and goal is interesting and you'd think it'd result in some fascinating meta or exploration of her upbringing when we got a hint that she potentially has some daddy issues right? Obviously, but what do we get instead? White sapphics treating her like nothing more than a sexual object. How delightful!

Ekko:

This might partially be Riot's fault because — and I hate to sound like a league lore nerd — Ekko is quite underdeveloped compared to the richer origins of his former pre arcane self, but I'm gonna hold off on that till the season finale to see how they handle him. Anyways, at this point the fandom clearly sees him as Jinx's trophy husband. When you talk about him, she is brought into the convo 90% of the time. That's exactly why I prefer black timebomb shippers over the nonblack ones because I trust they actually love Ekko as a character on his own. Even though I have my complaints regarding how's been written so far, I still know he's too good to be reduced to Jinx's loverboy. He fights and cares for his city, the only character that you can confidently say is pure of heart, and is the revolutionary leader Zaun really needs. He's just as smart as Jinx too, he is literally going to create TIME TRAVEL. Why does no one wanna talk about that? Can we be excited for his character development and arc not just for the timebomb scenes you'll get out of it?

Ambessa:

Can't even deny this woman is awful but her presence on screen enthralled me after a couple of rewatches and I also love bad mothers in media so I've settled on a love/hate relationship. Yes, she's definitely gonna have some influence on Caitlyn, which makes sense since she has now lost her mother; she's vulnerable and as we have seen, naive. She's practically free real estate for Ambessa. My recent worry though has been how the fandom seems to be willing to put all of Caitlyn's actions on her as if Cait isn't a grown ass woman who can make her own decisions. Of course being grown doesn't mean you're immune to manipulation, but I've seen some Silco and Jinx comparisons and it is NOT the same. Mind you we haven't even seen the first three episodes; we don't know how far Ambessa's manipulation is going to go and we can't really tell what the dynamic is gonna be like based off of clips and trailers that are likely shown out of context on purpose to throw people off. I'll never defend her actions, hell I'll join in on the lashings, but my black ass is also not gonna sit here and let yall talk about her weirdly or pin all of this on her.

Some might say I'm overthinking this, but I've been here since November 2021 and have sat back and observed for 2 years. You don't have to write deep, philosophical conversations 24/7, I'm sure it's not all in bad faith and I won't act like I don't thirst over Sevika or marvel at Mel's beauty. I'm not saying you have to like these characters and that you're racist if you don't. My frustration comes from the lack of nuanced conversations and hypocritical opinions surrounding black characters in this show. When you try to say something about this, you're hit with excuses; it reminds me of how man obsessed fujoshis act when they're questioned for not giving two fucks about female characters. They're either reduced to one character trait, only admired for their looks, or only discussed when it's about the white character they're connected to. Do NOT under ANY circumstance be black and morally ambiguous, you WILL be held to higher moral standards than everyone's wittle blorbos who can do wrong and are defended from all sides when you dare to take the rose colored stan glasses off and criticize them. What's really ridiculous is you hear the "complex characters" bullshit every two to three business days and some of you have the nerve to boast about this series being diverse while simultaneously ignoring the complexities in the characters of color. This is the main reason I took a step back and with season two around the corner I thought "Hey, maybe it'll be better this time!" and it was a mistake. Good to know yall still have an underlying racism problem you don't wanna address but with some extra classism thrown in. "What will we do once Arcane ends?" hopefully get a job, touch some grass, and reflect. Lord knows yall need it. The faster yall sizzle out the better. Do I even have to explain? At this point, you could basically write an entire encyclopedia only using the stuff this man is into - he knows it all and wants to try it all. The thing is, whether he trusts you enough or not, because if he's too shy to bring up the one thing that's on his mind, he'll bombard you with hints, hoping he'd "manipulate" you into mentioning it first. Not that he'd ever do anything you're not 100% comfortable with, but he'd much rather you be the one who asks. He'd slap your ass, bite it, mark it, grope it, eat your pussy from behind and send you porn links - all while hoping you'd finally get the idea and ask him to eat your ass. Because he's shy like that. But once you do catch on and tell him about it, he's all in.

He's an exemplary sub, not one brat bone in his body. He tries sometimes to test you, but he goes back to being doe eyed and whiny for you in no time. He's not as vocal and not as eager to let all his enthusiasm show, but just like Felix, he'll do absolutely anything you tell him, and then thank you for allowing him to do it.

Another switch. He can be a dom and he can be a sub, but I think there are two other sides of him. You can't really tell whether there's a pattern, but maybe if you spent more time together you'd be able to spot one. He'd paint your body, lay back and allow you to do absolutely anything you want to him, he's just full of want and passion. 

I don't think he'd ever be the kind of person to associate pain or humiliation with pleasure. Like he knows they're valid kinks and will not shame anyone about it, but with him, you have to feel like the most beautiful woman in the world, loved, cradled and appreciated in absolutely every way. 

Absolutely the type to eat your ass and then be like "What? People don't do that?". Doesn't think spitting in each other's mouths is degrading because, "We literally kiss all the time, what?" 

Will ask you to slap him just to see what it's like but will probably malfunction if you ask him to do it to you. 

I think he'd be down for a lot of stuff, but doesn't see any of them as kinks. Doesn't need any of them. They don't get him hard. It's all just for fun.

☠︎︎• If you're expecting any semblance of stability and pure romance, then I'd turn and run for the Dunes to find Paul instead, because this Harkonnen doesn't have an ounce of level sanity in him, and the amount of spiking tension you'll have to cope with on a daily basis is enough to give anyone a literal heart attack 💀💀

☠︎︎• My guesses are that you were introduced to Feyd-Rautha as either a pretty young Bene Gesserit girl chosen to weave her way into his life to continue the bloodline, or he liked the look of you when he was off-world in one instance to look over Spice production with his uncle, and took you back as a trophy because he liked the look of you. So lucky you. 🙃

☠︎︎• This boy is an absolute sadist and an unpredictable unhinged mess, so there's a lot to get used to, and even when you do get used to things, it could all flip and spin just as quickly. It would take a hell of a time to truly understand Feyd-Rautha enough to predict him one hundred per cent and longer to have his trust that you won't run off or try betraying him.

☠︎︎• There's definitely a kind of dangerous allure to him that he uses to his advantage, a smug grin on his face when he enters the arenas, most likely to make kills in your name. It wouldn't be a massive surprise if you became some figure in Giedi Prime to sacrifice the dead to, like some kind of goddess of the kill (ik that sounds dramatic as hell, but i see it happening .-.)

☠︎︎• Feyd-Rautha is absolutely not used to the concept of looking out for anyone other than himself, or feeling anything close to respect and love for anyone other than himself. So the relationship he forces between you and him is a shaky and slow-burning bond that works in its own weird ways and quirks, and adapts to him and him only, so there are a lot of adjustments to be made on your end. Because even though Feyd isn't sensitive in the general sense, he's majorly unpredictable, and one wrong word could set him off. Just, tread carefully in the early days.

☠︎︎• If you want affection in any other way than corpses and bruising hickies, it may take a little while, because he has no idea how to pull that kind of gentleness off, and doesn't necessarily want to either. But if it's something that'll get you to submit to his hold over you more, then he'll come round to it, and when there's absolutely no one else in the area, you might get some actual, genuine passion, though there's always a part of it mixed in with some darker conflict in him.

☠︎︎• If you want attention from him, you've got it anyway. Feyd has his own form of attachment, pretty much an obsession, but it's always tangled in with his desire to dominate and possess. It's a suffocating relationship and tipped-scales dynamic, and the only way you can really get him to see your side of things is by wording it in ways that'll make it sound like it was his idea in the first place, and that the reason is because it'll feel better for him.

☠︎︎• Needless to say, if you're a little firmer and have a dark side to you (i'll make a safe bet that you do if you want this guy x_x) this Harkonnen is a thrill seeker to the extreme, someone always looking to feel something new and raw and insatiable, like the sharpest peaks of ecstasy and adrenaline, so will he try out new stuff with you even though it sounds mental and freaky and dangerous? That's a rhetorical question.

☠︎︎• Despite all the bloodshed and his ruthless havoc in the arenas, taking lives and living for the pain of it, believe it or not, Feyd is actually vulnerable in the least suspecting way. He doesn't have an emotional connection with anyone, because he's an unhinged psycho amongst a crowd of pale unhinged psychos who expect nothing less (and.. have you watched the film?? It's confirmed that this dude has mummy issues, so... i'm just saying, look at this hc's front gif 😏)

☠︎︎• If we're talking romance and affection, just think intense. Intense intense intense, because that's the best way to describe it. His hugs are breathtakingly tight and forcefully smothering, and he doesn't kiss, he full-on makes out with you. Public or not doesn't matter, it's just an opportunity to mark you as his in front of an audience, and he'll gladly perform, so suck up your shyness.

☠︎︎• Thinking of pet names, I see Feyd-Rautha calling you either by just your true first name and having everyone else address you just by your general title, or using other typical nicknames he'd use with satisfied smirks and lingering looks. Maybe his dearest darling, because you're higher than the pets he feeds and used before you (apparently they're called harpies??!? idk what the heck lol) I don't see him saying my love or honey unless he's just being a jackass in an argument, because I'm betting my life savings this boy only eats bitter things, and he sure as hell can't define love like you can.

☠︎︎• Feyd comes across as pretty dominant in everything he does, which is right, and even if it's you questioning him, he'll throw a dangerous fit that escalates within a second no one sees, so, again you have to be clever with the way you word things. You physically and mentally cannot be independent with Feyd-Rautha, because he'll break that spirit right out of your soul. Would he physically hurt you? Not badly, no, but just don't push him, because he'll lash out without a second thought in the moment of impulse.

☠︎︎• Again with the independence, another thing that stops you from getting any is how absolutely suffocatingly obsessive he can get, which turns on his possessiveness. You're essentially an extension of himself, something that's peaceful and pure and perfect in so many ways he'll never understand and will always pull your mind apart to try to. So if any other skulking Harkonnen looking to impress you by challenging Feyd himself or devoting a kill in the arena to you, has immediately chosen the slowest, most humiliating death, that you'll probably be tied down to watch -_-

☠︎︎• And if he can tell in even the smallest way that you're drawn to someone aside from him, there's a chance you'll be kept locked up in his chambers for a month or two with no servants, nothing breathing at all permitted to trespass except him, until he's satisfied and you have him wrapped around your finger again. And that means you can get him to do practically anything if it benefits him and draws you closer, like a kill.. to maybe even destroying a whole planet, it's not impossible for him. Once he has his mind set on something, he's a hunter, he's found his target, and he'll go wild until he destroys it.

☠︎︎• He's protective in the way that he will not let you die, or get hurt in any way by any person other than him. If another Harkonnen draws your blood in the tiniest scratch, or hurts your feelings in some way, Feyd will use that as an excuse to wring their necks. You're his to look at and admire and dress up and be close to and make you feel things, so anyone else daring to step up beside you will get knocked down and fed to his darlings. The only time you'll actually see him being doting and surprisingly, cautiously gentle is when he's healing a wound without the audience of any nurses or outside help, an uncharacteristic and uncomfortable silence in the air as he concentrates and gets you back to rights.

☠︎︎• The moments where he'll allow himself to be truly close to you go unspoken, like in the cold hard nights of Geidi Prime, where he pulls you up from your bed and tugs you down the short dark corridor to dump you in his own instead, with nothing else but the need to feel smotheringly close to someone who understands how his mind works. You'll remind him of his mother, and that's all good, so long as you stay by him and with him always, because if you take the opportunity to turn and run, don't let him catch you in the act. There's a 50/50 chance he'll keep you in his rooms for the rest of the relationship, or just straight-up kill you and take in your memories and mind to possess you that way ._.

I honestly can't believe this is actually happening. This event was a shower thought a few months ago.

• There’s only one person Kyōtani listens to other than Iwaizumi, and the Ace is curious to find out why.

It was unwarranted, your charming and unexpected presence that is, yet still it had stunned the gymnasium into an ambiguous state of quiet.

"I'd love to see you serve Kentarō, it's been a while."

Seijohs' muffled sniggers echoed across the court, your assumption that Mad-Dog would adhere to your request was laughable - seriously. The Wing Spiker only respected Iwaizumi on the best of days, it was pointless for a stranger to try even if you were brave enough to address him so informally.

It wasn't until the rebel got into position did the amusement promptly die, briskly buried in mounds of concern and confusion like it'd never even existed in the first place.

The members shot intrigued glances between the two of you as if to decipher this invisible hold you apparently had over him, like a marionette to his master - except there was none.

"Mad Dog-chan, are you actually going to serve?" It came from Oikawa, the puzzlement heavily present in his tone.

"Yes."

Compliance.

"You're seriously gonna listen...?" Hanamaki hesitantly questioned next.

"Yes."

Resentment was painfully evident in the way he'd hissed it, but the lack of hesitation demonstrated confidence and trust.

"Why are you taking orders from a visitor?"

"Yes."

His response to Matsukawa caused the near entity of the VBC to sweatdrop, hopeless sighs escaping them as Kyōtani leaped into the air and smashed the ball with a resounding thud vibrating the floorboards underneath your feet.

It remained silent, your impressed gaze befalling an approaching Mad Dog who pushed the recovered ball into your chest with a grunt.

"Happy?"

"Very~" It was cheerful, radiant gratitude exuding from you causing a brilliant hue to appear on him - incoherent muttering trailed his retreating figure.

"Sorry about him, uh, I can take that if you want?" This player, the Ace if you recalled correctly, had a hand fall from the back of neck as he gestured to the volleyball with a sympathetic smirk.

"Oh right, I'm (L/n) (Y/n) sorry to interrupt, and it's fine. I'm used to Kentarō by now." You thought it best to introduce yourself since you didn’t share any classes.

"Yeah I’ve seen you around school, I'm Iwaizumi Hajime. Maybe you could give us advice since we're not yet."

"I beat him at arm wrestling years ago, instant respect I guess." You shrugged, a hint of embarrassment there but it certainly piqued the Aces’ interest.

"Oh really? I'll have to challenge you sometime."

"I'd like that Iwaizumi."

Although you’d spent more time around the Aoba-Johsai VBC lately, you didn’t quite expect that competition to come quite so soon. In front of a vast variety of peers watching the pair of you prepare for the arm wrestling contest no less.

Mad Dog cemented his grip over the joined hands of yourself and Iwaizumi, curtly sighing like he’d rather be elsewhere, before flicking a glowering gaze to his Senpai who sat opposite you.

"Iwaizumi-san."

The team expected a warning, specifically to avoid causing you injury else Iwa would suffer the consequences, but the true intention was surprising to even the Ace.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Yeah..?" Hajime looked to you quizzically before he’d replied, you maintaining an innocent smile.

Kyōtoni may've given Seijoh the wrong impression, to be honest you weren't confident in beating Iwaizumi in a feat of strength - that's not exactly how you'd beaten Kentarō, but all you needed to do was last three seconds.

“Go!”

Three seconds.

"You good (L/n)?" You happily nodded in reply, a smirk quirking his lips as he added more power, slowly forcing your stance into a careful submission.

Two seconds.

"You really are beautiful Hajime."

One second.

It was a determining split second, you'd felt the pressure alleviate from his arm completely due to surprise - instantly surging all of your strength to pin his arm before he refocused.

Zero.

Silence, ominous and echoing. Seijoh took exactly three moments to configure the results, glancing between Hajime and yourself, and finally at your interlocked hands.

The first and second years chorused 'Ooohs' and applause whilst the third years continued to stare on in disbelief. Oikawa swamped his partner before he could react whilst Kyōtani shoved your shoulder with a scowl.

"I can't believe you lost Iwa-chan?! We're adding more bicep curls to your workouts, it'll improve your spiking power too..."

Amidst the chatter, Iwaizumi managed to pull you to the side whilst the team were distracted and had bemusement etched onto his expression.

"You're strong Iwa, you would kick my ass if we had a rematch. You're still the champion of Aoba Johsai no matter what." Came your honesty, knowing your methods were haphazard at best, you’d resigned the title of ‘Arm Wrestling Champion’ to Iwaizumi since you’d only participated for fun.

"I'll let you enjoy the victory glow before I challenge you again, it suits you. That was a good strategy by the way, I wasn't expecting it."

"It's a one time wonder, I told Kyōtani there was a dog outside when we competed."

"Ah so that's the true tactic huh?" He seemed more defeated than previously, and also partially disappointed and you'd realised why.

"Iwaizumi, it may've been underhanded but that doesn't mean I was lying."

Your words left him speechless whilst you took the opportunity to reunite with an awaiting Mad-Dog. Oikawa soon joined his best friends’ side, giving him a nudge with petty disapproval lacing his voice.

“Can’t believe you lost that, I mean technically you let yourself get distracted by their comment, so what’s with you?”

"Um, they were telling the truth." Iwaizumi uttered, still processing the revelation himself.

"When they called you beautiful? But they haven't— (L/n)-chan! Am I pretty?" Oikawa hurriedly called to you.

"Huh? Sorry can't hear you!" Your brush off left Iwa laughing and Oikawa wearing his childish pout.

"...this is worse than Kiyoko ignoring me. You pick the strangest ones Iwa-chan!"

"I know. I picked you remember?" The Ace deadpan cemented, prior to flicking back to Oikawa offended. "Wait, whaddya mean pick them?"

"You like (L/n) don't you? Kinda evident by your fond smile and cute blush you— OW?!"

The Captain was cut off by a solid punch to his shoulder, one hard enough to make him reconsider his stance on additional bicep curls.

"Shut up Shittykawa!"

It ceased to fascinate the entirety of Seijoh just how connected you and Kyōtani were, they dare say you’re the only human he’d willingly give the time of day. They also wanted to know how.

So after you’d finished your conversation with Iwaizumi and bid farewell to the team, they took advantage of the split second of contentment that briefly lingered in Kyōtani after seeing you.

“What does (L/n) have on you?” Makki spoke up first, only receiving a glare in response. His question wasn’t even justified with an answer.

Instead, Iwaizumi took a shot.

“(L/n) said they bested you at arm wrestling when you guys were younger, was it the same tactic?”

This actually received a reply, no matter how blunt.

"I only lost because (Y/n) pointed out this dog across the street, they knew how I really wanted one so..."

"Used it to beat you?" Yahaba interjected, as if resolving the suspense but Mad-Dog only rolled his eyes with a frustrated tut.

"That's what (Y/n) might want you to believe, but they were stupidly excited about me seeing it and blurted it out, pinning my arm in the process. (Y/n) offered a rematch straight after, saying it didn't count and apologised 50 times like an idiot."

"That's what did it?" Oikawa chimed in, even if he wasn't particularly involved in the conversation.

"I don't respect them because they beat me. I respect (Y/n) because they took the time to care."

Oikawa and Iwaizumi shared an understanding look, one that acknowledged you pointing out something he liked had gained you unparalleled loyalty. As such Hajime decided that he should show the same respect but he’d wait until he could catch Kyōtani alone to discuss it.

It was after practice that Iwaizumi had managed to catch the fiery spiker in the club room.

"Hey, Kentarō.” The blonde made a noise of acknowledgement when throwing his gym bag over his shoulder, enough for Iwaizumi to continue. “Would you mind if I asked (L/n) on a date?"

"What?" It was spoken more deadly than anything else, like pushing the subject further would cause him to bite.

"(L/n) (Y/n). I like them, a lot actually, and with how close you are I thought I'd let you know."

Kentarō dropped his bag to the floor, glare only intensifying like the fires of hell despite the calm explanation from his upperclassmen.

"..."

"Look I get it, but I think (L/n) would feel better if you appr—“

"You don't know (Y/n) like I do!" Mad-Dog suddenly snapped, voice cursing and loud, though Iwa remained neutral having expected this to some extent.

"Obviously not, you grew up together right?"

"Other people's happiness came first, all the time! They’re always trying their best for others even if they get anxiety or whatever. They make so many sacrifices for everyone. When I was an ass they didn’t give up on me either, they’re too—" It was spoken harshly, yet radiated emotion. "(Y/n) doesn't— they deserve— tch nevermind."

"That's why you try to make them smile, yeah?"

A low growl meant more than words, Kyōtani flashing his teeth prior to picking up his bag in a sulk which told enough of a story. Though Iwaizumi knew not to pester.

It remained quiet as the tension dissipated, Kentarō shoving his hands in his pockets and suddenly breaking the silence with a low tone.

"Iwaizumi-Sa—... Iwaizumi. You better make them happy. If you dare hurt (Y/n) in any way, I'll kill you."

"I'll look out for them, always, just as you will. (Y/n) can rely on both of us Kyōtani." Hajime confidently stated, a softer smile appearing. "And you don't need to worry, I'll try to keep them smiling."

"Tch, good luck. (Y/n) can still say no."

"I knew this was going too well." Though, it was the closest to approval he was going to get, he could only hope you agreed.

This is a list of my best performing fics. Do you see the problem with this? The green highlights are the hits I've received for those fics. The red is the Kudos and comment threads. Now the kudos is obviously right?

Let's look at my number one fic right now, Accidentally in Love (a Malleyuu fic from Twisted Wonderland fandom). It's the seventh fic in a romance series. As you can see, it's doing great as far as hits, right? And I know it's an amazing fic from the comments I have received and just from rereading it myself. Note, I am probably the biggest bully to myself as @sunshineandteddybears and @mellosdrawings and @romantichopelessly can tell you in great detail. So when I am saying it's really damn good, you can probably trust it's gonna be pretty damn good. And yet, a fic that has 4K hits only has 119 kudos. And now to bring your attention to the comment threads. So honestly with how bad readers are on actually commenting (which by the way if you log off you can send anonymously as a guest—you'll have to put in your email address but we authors won't see that)... 107 seems pretty good right? But you guys don't see that. You see what's on the info for the story. Unfortunately, on the fic info at the top of the story, it counts every single comment (including the Author's). (The comment threads is just every single starting comment, i.e. the first comment received from each commenter.)

The thing is, I—and probably quite a few other writers—do respond to every single comment.

So that means where the info on my fic itself says 230 comments, in reality, I'm at half that when I subtract my half of the comments. So that's actually 115 comments from other people. So some people might see that 230 and think oh they got a lot of comments so I don't think they want to hear from me or I can't be fucked and they're already doing good so.

NO. NO. NO. Do not look at the numbers as a guide if a fic is good or not. Do not look at the numbers and think that we don't need or deserve to get any more. And finally WE WANT TO HEAR FROM Y'ALL.

Excuses need to stop.

Speaking of numbers. Here's my over all stats current on AO3.

In the 3 years on this AO3 account (I've had others in the past and accounts on ff.net and live journal. I'm an oldie fanfic writer lol. 21 years of fanfic. My gods. 🤣) It didn't used to be like this guys. Back in the day I'd get 12 plus comments on a chapter and this is on stuff a teenager wrote.

We have got to get back to the point of supporting each other and building each other up. Also while I'm at it, I have a huge beef with the fact that fanartists get so much more positive feedback and replies and comments, but the thing is, even their numbers are skewed. You can go into the notes of a fanart on here that has 10k notes to see they have maybe 100-1K reblogs (if that, I'm being generous) and maybe 10 or so replies (if turned on) and the rest are all likes. EVERYONE has been on here long enough by now to know that likes do nothing to get a post in the algorithm and tags only do so much. Reblogs are the only way their art (or our fanfictions for people who post them on here) gets seen! By sharing!

So y'all gotta get better. Yes, we write for ourselves first, but ultimately a story is meant to be shared with everyone and feedback should not be optional if you're actively reading the fics or viewing the art for free and enjoyed it!

beyond "pup and cub": analyzing twilight and wild's relationship

beloved by most, twilight and wild's relationship is one of the pillars of linked universe. the two brothers, closer than anyone else in the chain, who trust and keep each other in check. even before the events of jojo's comic, these two links knew each other from the same quest.

right? in some aspects... wrong.

(one extra note before we start, considering everything that goes through the fandom on a regular basis: this is not a trope-bash. sure, their fanon relationship isn't everyone's cup of tea (it sure isn't mine), but my goal is to share an analysis based strictly on canon, nothing but real observations and the honest truth.)

for the sake of everyone's dashes, this will be under a readmore but it's a really important read for the entire fandom so i implore you to click through.

it's well-established canon that wolfie was a major part of wild's journey. even though wild never knew that the wolf was a fellow link, he trusted the "blue-eyed beast" with his life.

on what could be twilight's deathbed, wild tells him, "you've got so much to live for". he then reminisces back to his own quest, and the wolf he knew then. there's something crucial to note there, which the fandom did spot when the comic was released;

during the events of botw, wolfie was old. really old. grizzled and shaggy, a rusted chain shackled to his paw that was eventually removed. compared to twilight's wolf form we see in lu, we can make the conclusion that wild is telling twilight that he needs to live for his own future.

wild knows twilight before they meet in lu. twilight does not.

by the time i finally post this, there is even more canon evidence besides these panels. justification has been a long time in the making, and i've been drafting this post since february. we'll get to the additional waves of evidence later on, but for now, let's do a major reset analysis of their relationship throughout lu so far.

twilight gives reasonable advice to wild:

twilight doesn't scold wild for wanting to kill for the sake of it? wild doesn't sneak off and hunt his own game? absolute blasphemy... but it's canon.

mutual praise/bonding:

after trying twilight's soup recipe, wild doesn't even have any hard feelings.

everybody loves a brotherly hug :)

notice the lack of pushed boundaries, even when the two get on each others' nerves. wild and twilight tease more openly than some of the others, but wild is good at backing off.

instead of rolling his eyes or telling everybody how "stupidly dangerous" it is to nock three arrows at once, twilight simply smiles as he watches wild demonstrate his cool technique.

twilight choosing not to scold wild:

that's right, folks: twilight respects wild as a person with his own agency. it's not wild's fault that he can only scavenge weak blades, and nobody was thinking rationally during the fight with the iron knuckle.

twilight scolding wild:

that's not to say that twilight always holds back. yes, he isn't pleased with having to track him down, or taking a dangerous hit to the face, or wild's... interesting way to use his swords. wild stands up for himself, though, and twilight still respects that.

the word you've all been waiting for:

yes, i know how to admit when i was wrong. the word 'protege' has been used to describe wild's relationship to twilight. but don't get so smug yet- this hasn't been said in canon, and what jojo specifically says is that wild is "unofficially" twilight's protege. it's pretty clear that their relationship isn't defined by the boundaries of mentor-protege, and even if it was, there's no sign of the unhealthy power imbalance that is found so frequently in fandom.

this style of teasing is commonplace in lu canon. i'd be surprised if i saw this much lighthearted banter from a "mentor twilight" who thinks that wild is a feral infant, or a "protege wild" who is rightfully scared of the short-tempered twilight's every move.

twilight is still trying to figure out how to approach being there for wild. he doesn't know as much as wild thought he does, so he relies on relatability with his own story.

and so we return to this panel in its entirety, and additional proof of what i wanted to say all the way back in february. i think wild says it all perfectly himself; he's used to twilight guiding him from afar, letting him make his own decisions and mistakes. this may be something that both of them have to (re)learn during this adventure, but wild knows what he needs and how to communicate it.

i'll leave the analysis here. it's been a long time in the making and quite frankly i've forgotten any additional points i would have made. i'm a member of the patreon so i am tempted to wait yet again... but maybe, those who made it to the end of my post will look at wild and twilight with new eyes themselves.

never stop inventing headcanons, but i think it's important to take a step back and reevaluate what we've accepted as the truth every once in a while.

Yeah... I like both characterizations since they act so different from one another. Although, I felt it would make more sense if I covered all of him in one concept as someone else asked for him and I feel his obsession builds throughout the years. Sorry if I miss something, There's so much to cover.

For example, I wanted to add more of Mikasa enabling him and cute Attack Titan moments... but I just focused on Eren slowly getting worse throughout the concept instead :( He's such a complex character but I love him sm....

Yandere! Eren Yeager Concept

(Seasons 1-3 + 4)

Pairing: Romantic

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Manipulation, Clingy behavior, Jealousy, Possessive behavior, Isolation, Fear of loss, Murder, Blood, Violence, Dark themes, Mass murder, Mikasa enables him early obsession, Suicidal thoughts mention, Kidnapping, Dubious turned forced relationship.

WELL! Where do I start...?

It would make sense to start where Eren's story began, right?

When he met you in the Cadets after the fall of Wall Maria.

When you first met Eren, you respected his determination and ambition.

You and Eren were naive then.

Two souls who were both affected by the Shiganshina Tragedy.

Which is no doubt what brought you two close.

Eren before Season 4 is a character you can no doubt get behind.

He simply wants to fight for something more.

He doesn't want to be caged in these walls.

You respect such a fight within him.

At this time, Eren's view is very black and white.

Eren's yandere behavior in general is Overprotective, Clingy, Obsessive, Manipulative, and easily jealous.

He keeps this Yandere behavior, even through Season 4.

It's just, obviously, at different levels.

Seasons 1-3 is the time Eren's obsession would grow.

It's when you meet, it's when you train together, and it gives you both time to get attached.

The Eren you meet is a determined yet curious boy.

He encouraged you to keep fighting, he always smiled and asked to train.

Five years as Cadets... and you two learn to trust one another.

As Cadets, you two are friends.

Even Mikasa, though she loves Eren, can see you two interact well.

Eren's behavior seems like it would start as an innocent crush.

Despite focusing on becoming a Scout, he can't deny he has... feelings.

You're attractive to him, have a sweet personality, and seem to ground him when things get bad.

Mikasa usually does such a thing, but he notices it more with you.

It's childish... But he can't help but gawk.

Eren first feels his heart flutter when you two are Cadets.

His feelings only seem to get stronger after the Battle of Trost.

Eren convinced you to be a Scout with his ambition.

Perhaps... You yourself even began to care for him.

Not quite the same way... But you support him.

Eren's naturally scared when you learn he can become a Titan.

However... You don't shy away.

You continue to support him.

He loves you even more for it.

Something I feel I could never ignore in an Eren concept is this...

Interactions between you and Eren's Titan form.

Since Eren becomes increasingly more coherent when training in his Titan as a Scout.

He no doubt enjoys you around, even as a Titan.

Especially since he's fallen for you.

Even in Trost, when he first becomes his Titan, he doesn't try to harm you.

He's feral in such a state, yet when he sees you about to be eaten by a Titan...?

He slams down said Titan with a roar, squashing their nape with a feral intensity.

After Trost, when training how to utilize his Titan, you're often right by his side watching.

I like to imagine Eren shows affection towards his obsession as a Titan in your early years.

Such as picking you up to hold you, carrying you on his shoulder, and depending on if you're dating or not... licking you like a dog.

In fact... You may actually date Eren by this point.

When you're both young during Seasons 1-3, you two may end up dating.

If I had to pick when, sometime before or after Season 2?

Before you two end up dating, he's a bit childish with his crush.

He stutters, blushes, hides it....

He's a bit nervous to admit it.

He sometimes follows you around, asking to hang out or train.

Maybe when you two join the Scouts or something he decides he... can't hide those feelings anymore.

He adores you and enjoys your similar goals.

Which may make him confess to you for being there for him.

Originally Mikasa felt jealous.

Although, she sees how Eren acts towards you...

So naturally she supports him every step of the way.

Even when Eren's obsession gets more intense, Mikasa supports you two and looks after you.

Such determination only wavers later on.

Eren starts as just overprotective.

He defends you when someone picks a fight on you, and carefully notes where you are during missions.

Like all of his friends, Eren cares for you above all else.

Even as his Titan, you can see how gently he holds you and lets you touch his face.

When it's just fighting Titans... things are simple.

You and Eren have time to interact and be playful.

He doesn't seem like that bad of a boyfriend.

Even as a large Titan, he's gentle and keeps you close.

He adores you and is overly protective.

Although... Some may say he's even possessive based on how he acts towards others.

For example, Jean.

Or even Reiner later on.

Even though Jean has gotten better since Trost, Eren still despises him around you.

Eren even prioritizes your safety over objectives at times.

There's so many times he's been scolded by Levi for looking after you too much.

Why shouldn't he?

He's loved you probably a while since he met you.

Even during the mission to capture the Female Titan, or to fight the Armored/Colossal Titan, Eren would look after you in his Titan.

You didn't think Eren could be bad.

Of course he was protective...

But he'd never hurt you.

By the time Season 3 rolls around, Eren's behavior isn't innocent.

Sure, he got into fights sometimes, he seemed too protective at other times...

Yet in Season 3/after Season 3?

He's worse.

Season 3 is when Eren learns the truth about everything.

So while Eren isn't that bad in Seasons 1-2, He starts getting bad Season 3.

You notice here that Eren, your boyfriend, is getting worse.

He's distant, nervous, or downright suicidal.

He keeps saying he shouldn't exist.

Although, each time he does, you quickly hug him close and tell him he should.

He knows you don't understand, yet he can't help but pull you close and bury his face into your shoulder.

By the time you two see what's beyond The Walls, Eren's not the person you once knew.

No, instead he's darker.

He's worse than he was in Seasons 1-3.

In Seasons 1-3, He's overprotective, clingy, possessive, and slightly manipulative.

Afterwards?

He's still protective and possessive... yet isolating.

In fact, Eren gets increasingly more manipulative and possessive.

To the point of putting a strain on your relationship by Season 4.

In the time between Seasons 3-4, Eren isn't the man you once supported and loved.

Everything in this world is changing now... Including Eren.

Or was he always like this?

You can't even tell at this point.

He was beginning to fear you'll die on him around Season 3.

It was a miracle he hadn't lost you yet when you joined The Scouts.

The fear of losing you was always there, though....

Mikasa no doubt senses Eren's fear of losing you.

Eren's never far from you, always close even as new plans are put into place.

Mikasa does the same thing, acting as a bodyguard to the both of you.

By this point she's accepted the fact Eren loves you.

Although... She and Armin get more concerned when they see Eren trying to hide you away.

He always wants to be in private with you.

His normally soft kisses become filled with possessive desperation... a way to vent.

His touches are now rough.

You know damn well he's changed and you hate it.

You have a good feeling Zeke changed him, yet there's a good chance Eren adapted this new world view on his own.

Even when your relationship starts growing distant, Eren always asks you questions.

One sticks in your head the most...

"Do you know what I'd do to protect you?"

You knew the answer.

A lot.

You know Eren would always do anything to protect those he cares about.

You and his friends are all he cares about.

When he said no one else matters...

He meant it.

Even when you no longer love him, Eren would expect you to stick by him.

When you hesitate on the idea of bringing him and Zeke together... Eren drags you into it anyways.

He doesn't understand why you no longer love him.

He's helping you.

He's protecting you.

When The Rumbling begins, He'll create a place where you're safe.

Why are you so scared of him!?

You are still aware that he still loves you, right?

He'd kill for you, he already has!

Don't you remember your times together?

It may not have meant much now...

But he refuses to let you go.

Even when you try to leave him, or if you try to flee, he's stronger than ever.

His Attack Titan, after Liberio, is imbued with the Warhammer Titan.

You can try to run, but Eren will chase you.

He's still gentle as his Titan even now, but he'll still trap you in his mouth to keep you still.

Early Eren wouldn't kidnap, He'd try to convince you to skip missions but wasn't too forceful.

Now during Marley? What he says, goes.

Mikasa, Armin, and the others hesitate to support him anymore.

How can they when he not only supports mass slaughter to end the world... but has been mistreating you for months?

He's gone from being a sweet and loving boyfriend... To treating you like a possession.

Nothing else matters but you.

Eren, even now, wants to keep you from harm.

If it means Eren has to keep you locked underground until after The Rumbling... He sees no problem in it.

He orders you to be kept out of danger, even when he activates his Founding Titan.

He may be focused on a greater goal, but he's always planned to reclaim you afterwards.

Eren would create The Rumbling for not only his own goals, but to prevent any more harm coming to you or anyone else he loves.

You'd be forced to watch as hundreds of Titans storm the landscape.

You can only hope Eren's stopped.

You doubt even you can change his mind.

Eren has it in his head that this is how he'll protect you.

After this, your shared enemies will pay.

After this, he'll come back to you... and you'll love him again.

You'll be protected, out of harm, and back in his arms.

Then he's free to hold you, kiss you, and no longer fear you'll die in some battle.

You'll never have to leave him again...

He just needs to see The Rumbling through, then you're all his, forever.

Learning Curve by @hogans-heroes (This is also one of my fave fics. Buck and Bucky's relationship explored through the eyes of Alex. I shed a lot of tears reading this. This is literally canon in my head and made me fall in love with Alex even though he had like 20 mins of screen time in the actual series lol)

Blue skies by @majorbuckyegan (Another classic. This whole series is beautiful and explores the buckies all through the war and after it. Checking my email 20 times each saturday waiting for an update lol)

This must be the place by @blixabargelds (what else can i say other than WHUMP HIM HARDER. I love me a good gale whump and this is just so so beautifully written. obsessed.)

What a ride, yeah, from my first Red Art sketches in January to my most recent full-colour tries and experimentations - most of them still secret, sorrryyyyy. My wrist surgery and the physiotherapy still going on, depression and health problems hitting hard again... BUT I KNOW I wouldn't be here without the fandom and without your wonderful support.

The constant research of my own art style, while i was granted the chance to work with amazing writers and artists. The pleasure to share my improvements with you all, dear followers and friends!!!

Does it ever hit you that because of Frank and Monica's emotional detachment, all of the Gallagher's seek out affection from romantic partners? But like to an almost obsessive degree.

Fiona's is obvious. She's hypersexual and falls in love easily. She will downplay her issues with Frank as something she's grown used to, but it's clear that it still affects her. She also does the same when it comes to Monica but I feel like her hostility towards other women comes from how she doesn't trust Monica, doesn't really trust herself, and sees those insecurities on other women. Ex: Her treatment of Mandy and distrust of her around Lip.

Lip is a classic case of a man dealing with his mommy issues by making it every woman's problem. He's hostile towards his romantic partners when they want a real commitment from him and he talks to women with so much disrespect that it's a wonder someone hasn't stomped his ass out yet. He's especially harsh towards his own sisters even though they've been the one's who have been there for him. He may hate Frank but he's noticeably giving and extremely forgiving towards men, even those he's only known for a short while. Almost like the story about the turtle was just as much about him hoping that he could fix Frank as it was about Frank crushing his hopes of a real father figure.

Ian being groomed is in no way his fault and is the fault of the creeps who pursued him. But I can't ignore the fact that Frank's abuse and neglect opened him up the further abuse he suffered at the hands of Kash and Ned. It's no coincidence that both Kash and Ned shower Ian with gifts and compliments about how impressive, smart, and mature he is.

Debbie 1. deals with comphet in the first few seasons, and 2. Feels ignored by her family so she tries to create her own family. Debbie is visibly the one most affected by Frank's issues and even when she for all intents and purposes gives up on him, it still affects her. Frank's hurtful words about her only finding love with someone "just as fucked up as she is" pushes her to put consider a dangerous situation with Heidi. She's also someone who struggles with control issues because she needs to help other people. She's a problem solver by nature. It's just that the two problems she wishes she could solve more than anything are out of her hands (Frank and Monica). She can't fix Frank's addiction, his selfishness, or his abusive tendencies. She can't fix Monica's wanderlust, her avoidance, or her aversion to long-term commitment.

Carl is so good at masking his emotions. It's easy to miss. But then you notice things like his attachment to Fiona, his absolute devotion to the girls he likes, and his need to protect. Carl is hypersexual, even though I've seen it rarely brought up in fandom, and longs for a long-term girlfriend. When he does get girlfriends he's all in from the beginning. When Carl loves someone he is all about them. He's so casual when it comes to talking about Frank and Monica, but that doesn't mean those feelings aren't there and they aren't affecting him.

Liam is still young so we don't get to see him in a relationship. He's the one Gallagher who's consistently treated like an actual kid. Probably the one who has the best chance at healthy emotional attachments. But then again, Fiona leaving most likely did a number on him and we weren't privy to what that looks like for him because the latter seasons forgot how to do long-term storytelling and emotional payoff. All we know is that he doesn't remember Monica, Frank being gone makes him an orphan and he's worried about where he's gonna live because Lip forgot that Liam was technically under Frank's care. We didn't get to see it, but I'd say Liam's first emotional crash is probably on the horizon.
