A general announcement/reminder to please read my Rules & Boundaries page

I haven't talked about this because the subject makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I try to curate my blog and my online experience in a way so that I don't have to see things that I don't like. And this includes putting things like "tc*st dni" on the top of my blog - I don't want to be reminded of its existence anytime I look at my own page, and also because sometimes I worry that doing so would invite trolls.

However, I'm talking about it now, because someone decided that it was appropriate to ask me how I'd feel if someone created nsfw work of my "TMNT: Once Human" iteration. If you're wondering if I'd be okay with that, the answer would be

I'm Winter, She/Her pronouns, and I'm a writer/consumer of fiction.

I've been in the TMNT fandom since August of 2022, but have finally decided to come out of my shell. Kind of. I won't be posting often. I'm mainly interested in 2012 and Rise, but 2003 is great as well.

My motto is "Don't like, don't read". If you don't like that, that is fine. This blog is mainly for Tcest, specifically Leotello, and if that makes you uncomfortable, feel free to block me.

This isn't meant to be confrontational or anything, I just genuinely want to know why you're against putting stuff like tcest dni on your work

No worries I don’t think it’s confrontational at all!

Long story short, I don’t think it actually DOES anything practical. (For me.) Every person I’ve seen who was ACTUALLY shipping turtles together and trying to infiltrate- I guess you’d call them ‘DNI’ fandom spaces- had a side account, or just sneakily blocked people, or any number of things. But I don’t remember ever seeing a single one get STOPPED by the tag.

I feel like more DNI tags introduce the concept to people who would otherwise have NO IDEA something like that existed, than the actual TC*sters themselves. I shouldn’t have to put “not tc*st” on my work, because, why would you be thinking that AT ALL? At the worst, I’d be introducing a version of the tag into peoples timelines who have the word blocked.

I personally don’t want that on people’s mind when they read my work if it isn’t already- if I see anyone commenting on my works inappropriately, I block. If someone comes in my asks and tells me someone is inappropriate, I do my research, and if it’s founded, I block. (I will never block someone based off of hearsay.)

If someone’s going to learn about weird people shipping siblings together, they’re not going to hear about it from me. (Except just now, answering this ask lmao.) My friend just got his first AO3 account and is in a fandom for the first time, and I KNOW his first twenty run ins with the concept are going to be DNI tags.

This is all my opinion though- some people use the tags differently, or have different views, or different circumstances. (It’s the internet, after all.) For example I’m sure big name artists have to field fifty asks a day from overly confrontational people demanding if they ship siblings to gather or not, and just prefer to keep the disclaimer to avoid it. Who knows!

Anyway I’m glad you asked that, so I only have to answer this question once!
