Vet here!
I 100% believe that there are situations where rehoming the pet is the kindest, most humane thing to do for the pet and the people involved.
I'm not talking about dumping the animal on the street, but working to find a more appropriate home for that animal's needs, or because your needs are different than you thought.
Here are some reasons I have seen pets rehomed, all of whom thrived afterwards:
A person in the home developed an allergy or other medical issue that made keeping the pet unsafe for them, or made it so they could no longer meet the pet's needs
The family had a child, and the pet was not at all okay with having a tiny screaming, crawling, etc. person in the house
The people did not do their research and ended up with a bad match
The people did their research, but the animal in question did not fit the expected behavioral profile and thus is stressed in the lifestyle they are in. One example of this was, someone who had competition dogs (they did agility, obedience, and flyball) got another member of their breed of choice. This particular dog wanted to sit on a couch and cuddle with someone, and do a nice easy daily walk, and maybe give paw for a biscuit. She absolutely did not want to have to travel every weekend and do intensive daily training, even though 99% of her breed would be absolutely bonkers without all that work. Nor did she want to deal with her rambunctious housemates. She ended up in a pet home and being a lovely companion for her new (experienced) older human
A person wanted to get a cat after their sweet older cat died. They went to the shelter asking for an adult cat, and someone handed them a sweet little wiggly kitten that they promptly fell in love with. They took said kitten home, and he was extremely high-drive, playful, climbing everything and getting into everything. Without daily active playtime, he started biting. The owner did not have the time or desire to do that type of intensive play this cat needed, and didn't want to get him a companion cat due to finances
Pets who have medical issues that the family is not financially (or time-wise) prepared to handle, but someone else is willing to take on that expense/time. This happens often in emergency clinics, and is how I obtained one of my cats and a former dog
This one is controversial BUT often improves safety for the pet: the person gets a new partner, and the partner dislikes the animal or vice versa. While in my own personal ethical code, that would mean finding a new partner, I would rather see the pet rehomed to a loving family that wants them then have to live in a household where they are at risk
Sometimes, recognizing that you are not in fact the best fit for your pet, and finding someone who is, is a great act of love. There are a tremendous number of resources available to help find that better fit, including training groups, online communities (beware though, and make sure you investigate proper homes thoroughly), breed rescue, friends, family members, and even talking to your vet who, presumably, knows your pet to some degree. If you have a pet from a responsible breeder, contact your breeder! If you obtained through a rescue, contact that rescue group! Not all of them will help you, but many will.
hi! can i ask what's ur opinion on giving pets away? not necessarily because u can't afford to care for em anymore but maybe incompatibility of personalities or maybe lifestyles. is it wrong to give ur pet for adoption if u know someone who's better suited for keeping a pet, like emotionally?
This is going to be controversial, but I support making that choice.
There’s a lot of rhetoric lately around how it’s evil and unethical to rehome your pet if you don’t “need to.” And what that does is prioritize human ideology over the actual animal’s well-being.
Pets that aren’t a good match for your home or pets that aren’t really wanted anymore frequently have lower welfare! When caring for an animal becomes a burden or is forced, people end up resenting them, and that means the animal often doesn’t get all of its needs fulfilled. Even if you’re still feeding it and providing appropriate vet care, how likely are you to provide affection or enrichment to an animal you’re tired of being stuck with?
Lifestyle and personality really matter to making sure a pet is a good fit for a home. A dog that alert-barks at every leaf that moves is probably a bad fit for someone who has a chronic migraine syndrome, and they might not know that until the dog has been in the home for weeks and started to open up. A really feisty kitten that requires a ton of play might not do best in the home of someone older who wanted a quiet lap cat. And while you can you do your best to plan to find a compatible animal, you won’t always know ahead of time what issues might arise.
“Forever home” rhetoric is really, really popular and I think it’s very unfair to the animals it is supposed to support. It started with the backlash of seeing animals abandoned inappropriately, and has been heavily reinforced in the public mind because it’s so frequently used to drive fundraising and support for legislation. The whole “forever home” concept communicates to people that getting an animal is an immutable commitment and that if you can’t keep an animal, it is a personal moral failing. It frames human priorities (we think people who get rid of animals are Evil and Bad and should be shunned) as more important than actual welfare needs for individual animals (are they getting the care they need where they are).
Obviously, I don’t support people dumping animals or just getting fad pets they’ll discard immediately, but there’s so many alternate situations that can arise. Even if it’s just “they got a pet and didn’t know what caring for it would take and didn’t want to care for it so they brought it back, how awful” like… okay, I’d like the person to have done more research before they got a pet, but isn’t it better that the animal now has a second chance to go to better home? Knowing what a commitment requires theoretically can be very different than having to actually follow through regularly, and I’d rather see someone maturely acknowledge that having an animal isn’t a good fit than keep it anyway!!
If animals being happy and with all their biological, veterinary, and social needs fulfilled is actually the goal, we need to prioritize their welfare over human opinion. I’d much rather see an animal rehomed responsibly to somewhere it will thrive and be welcomed than see people keep animals they can’t/don’t want to care for out of guilt or shame.

What could've been
So this is a small one shot about BB not getting injured and how I imagined it would've gone... I hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions feel free to ask me anytime – it might take me a day or two to reply but please feel free to send in your asks
Lucy knew you would be the greatest player that ever set a foot on the pitch. She watched you grow up training with her. You could barely hold your balance but you were able to kick a ball. Lucy immediately saw the potential you had. You were a rough diamond. Every time you saw a ball you toddled over as quickly as you could falling over three or more times before getting there but the moment you were close enough you just kicked it away laughing happily toddling after it again. Your sister watched with pride how you developed through your kid years until City picked up on your talent. You were just short of your sixth birthday when City asked Lucy for a meeting. They told her they saw you kicking about with her after a game and kept an eye on you and they were very happy with what they saw. Your sister agreed quickly to bring you in one day for a trail training day. So you were 5 Years, 354 days and 7 hours old when Lucy pulled your first City jersey over your head. Even tho it was just a trainings jersey and it was two sizes too big for your small frame you and her sported the same proud look. Hers was more noticeable than yours but you copied her anyway. The girls you had to play with were older and bigger than you so your first session didn't go as well as Lucy hoped. You got pushed around a lot. Your body more on the ground than not and at one point your sister thought about pulling you out but Trainer told her to leave it. She was right – every time you got pushed over you stood back up running after the ball. You were a true Bronze. Competitive to no end. Tough – not only was it your name it was also your personality. One of the girls tackled you hard and it took you a moment longer to get up Lucy already on her way over when your new trainer stopped her
“You're worse than any soccer mom” your trainer rolled her eyes pulling Lucy back by her jacket
“That little.... girl... fouled my sister... hard... that should've been a yellow” your sister gestured upset towards the field
“We don't have cards here” Linda deadpanned
“Well... then start using them” Lucy said upset “... they have to learn at some point... start young... so they know what's going on”
“Lucy... I understand you're nervous...” your trainer started
“I'm not nervous” your sister interrupted defensive
“You are a wreck...” Linda rolled her eyes again “.... your sister is good... by far better than anyone I've seen so far... she'll come far... but you have to let her do it herself...”
“That's my baby sister out there” Lucy growled “... I will make sure that little.... …. girl.... won't ever set foot on a pitch again if she fouls my sister again”
“Well... that's not how it works around here” your trainer said calm “... stop being overbearing... y/n will learn to deal with fouls”
Spoiler alert – Lucy and you both dealt with fouls the same... not well at all. You were always the first in a Refs face while your sister preferred to get into players faces.
With 12 you were invited to train with the senior squad the first time. Again Lucy was proud her chest puffed out when her trainer informed her that you would join the squad next week to see how you could keep up. You whined the whole way home to Keira to keep Lucy in check because your sister was so embarrassing. Keira just chuckled and promised to do her best but you both knew that it was useless. Just like the first time your sister pulled your first senior jersey over your head smiling widely.
“Luuuuccyyyy” you whined ashamed
“What...” Lucy asked pulling the jersey over your head “... we have to keep the tradition going”
“I'm old enough to dress meself....” you tried to push her away but it was no use
“It's tradition...” your sister grumbled as she tried to duck away from flailing arms
“You can't keep doing that” you whined again “... it's embarrassing”
“I don't care...” Lucy huffed grabbing your arm trying to get it through the sleeve
“Lucyyy...” you whined pulling against her grip
“Stop it...” your sister grumbled
“Keiraaaaaa....” you cried out for help only get met with an amused looking face from your sister girlfriend
“Sorry Bits...” Keira smirked “... she told me she will do it no matter what and I sat the stakes high...”
“I'm abstaining something very important for you....” Lucy mumbled as she finally got you into the trainings shirt
“Jesus...” you groaned “... why would you tell me stuff like that?!”
“Because I love you” your sister grinned “... now come on... show em how good you are”
You were 15 years, 300 days and 15 hours old when you played your first WSL game. It was against Brighton and you came on for Alex Greenwood who looked like a proud mother when she jogged over sending you into your first game in the 73rd minute. Lucy made Alana swap positions so she was standing next to you playing centre back instead of right back and you realized pretty quickly that first – Lucy was shit as a centre back and secondly... you weren't a defender. Your runs pushed high into the midfield and together with Keira you created chance after chance for Hempo, White and Raso. Even for Georgia – the new girl. She was nice but you couldn't really say anything else about her. Except for that she idolizes your sister and tried to copy her as good as possible which you found weird. It was just Lucy... if that girl wanted to idolize someone, she should pick someone good and famous – like... Rapinoe, Sinclair, Renard or Marta. But not Lucy.
“Come on Bubs...” you heard Lucy yell “... head in the game!”
“I'm right next to you you daft goldfish” you shot back pulling a face
“Concentrate” your sister sneered
“We're up 4 – 0.... I could start my French lesson with Kari and it wouldn't make any difference” you started to argue and your sister saw you were bored out of your mind
“It's disrespectful” Lucy said now calmly “... I know you want the big games but you also need the experience first”
“Against Brighton??” you looked at her confused “... if I score a goal from here... can I play against Atletico?”
“No....” your sister shot down your idea “... you'll train and you'll learn and get minutes and experience and THEN you'll get minutes in the big games”
“Keira” you whined stomping your foot
“Kinda busy here Bits” Keira huffed trying to get the ball of an opponent player so you just sprinted towards them getting possession and just belted it away
“Now you’re not...” you said as a matter of fact “... Lucy is mean and I'm bored”
“Bitsy....” your “other mom” looked at you with a blank face “... you just scored”
“Yes, I know...” you shrugged your shoulders “... their defence was off the whole game... there was always enough space between the near post and the backline”
“YOU SCORED!!!” Georgia screamed as she jumped on your back
“And you get off me” you immediately threw her off again “... jumping on me back without knowing me... didn't your parents teach you any manners??”
“Sorry” Georgia mumbled looking like a kicked puppy
“Don't take it personal G...” Keira laughed “... she's grumpy because Lucy apparently said something she didn't like”
“I just thought it was a good goal” the young player mumbled ashamed
“Oh it was... but Bitsy is... special... right now that goal doesn't mean shit to her... she's hung up on her argument with her sister...” Keira squeezed her friends shoulder “... you'll learn that these two are different than other siblings”
“Great goal Bubs” Lucy ruffled your hair smiling “... you still won't start Atletico”
“You suck” you snapped stomping back to your position “... and you suck as a centre back!!”
“One day she'll play for the biggest clubs” your sister looked after you grinning widely
Lucy leaving for Lyon was hard on you. You got used to her presence on the pitch behind you. You got used to her having your back always offering you a hand pulling you back up when you ate grass again. Always being there when you stayed down a second too long. So her moving to France was hard. You understood – kinda. It was good for her career but not good for your head. Keira did what she could to maintain your daily routine as good as possible but alone the drive to the Academy send you into a frenzy most days. Nick noticed your play was off so he put you back on the bench at first and then back into the B-Team. This set you off even more up to the point where you got physically sick every time you needed to go to training. Keira gave Lucy regular updates even telling her that it got worse with you and she didn't know what to do anymore. Your sister your saviour and protector came back to Manchester the first chance she got with the plan to slap some sense into you but when she saw you like a heap of misery hunched over on the couch all her aggression about you throwing away a big chance like this flew out the window
“Bubs...” Lucy said softly not wanting to scare you
“Hm...” you looked up your eyes dull
“Oh Bubs...” your sister sighed pulling you up and against her holding you tightly “... what were you thinking Bubs?”
“You just left” you mumbled emotionless against her shoulder not hugging her back
“We talked about it Bubs...” Lucy kept her voice low “... you're all grown up now and you don't need me anymore...”
“I don't want you to leave” you started to sniffle
“It's okay Bubs...” your sister pressed a kiss to your temple “... I've got a few days off now...”
“Not days Luce...” you were silently crying now “... not leaving”
“It's my job Bubs... you'll understand one day” Lucy sighed noticing how light you became “... we'll get you back on track and then you'll join me in Lyon okay”
“Don't wanna go there” you sniffed
“It's amazing there Bubs... they have so many ways to train... you have to see their gym Bubs... it's like the holy grail...” your sister talked while she gently maneuvered you to the kitchen table “but now we'll get some food into you and then we'll get you to bed, hm?”
It took Lucy all of seven days until she got you to eat small portions again. They were small and even when just a bite too much had you sprinting to the toilet again she was happy with her accomplishment. Five small meals a day. That's what you agreed on – breakfast at 8, then at 11 again, Lunch at 1.30, another small meal at 4 and dinner latest at 7.30. Your sister knew how much you needed your daily routines and she drilled it into Keira to keep those routines. As much as Keira tried after Lucy left you fell into old habits again. Skipping meals, training and meetings. The blonde called your sister completely shattered how she can't watch you kill yourself. Again Lucy jumped on a plane flying back to Manchester. This time tho she went to her girlfriend first telling her that she couldn't have done it without her and whatever happened it's not Keiras fault. Keira cried into Lucys broad shoulder and in the end Lucy stayed the night reassuring her girlfriend over and over again how good she was. The next morning when your sister entered your home you were already gone and much to her annoyance nobody knew where to. It was late at night when Lucy heard the keys open the front door and you entered the house
“Nice for you to join us for Dinner” your sister deadpanned
“What... Mum and Dad called the cavalry to slap some sense into me?” you shot back your voice just as emotionless
“It was actually Keira...” Lucy kept her voice flat
“Hm.... the girlfriend” you hummed finally pulling your shoes off
“What happened to you?” your sister asked bluntly
“I'm growing up Luce... it happens to the best of us” you shrugged wandering over to the fridge looking inside to see your mother left you dinner but you weren't hungry so you just closed the door again
“You are doing fuck all” finally Lucy showed some emotion “... you're killing yourself”
“And in what universe do you care?” you shot back your voice getting louder as well
“That's not fair y/n... you KNOW I care...” your sister getting loud now too “... what the hell is going on with you lately?”
“Whatever” you rolled your eyes pushing past Lucy
“Oh no...” Lucy panted out a laugh “... you are NOT running from me”
“Fuck off Lucy” you sneered as your sister tried to grab your wrist
“Y/n Tough Bronze...” your sister sneered back just as hostile “... tell me NOW what's going on with you?”
“You don't care anyway... go back to France and leave me the fuck alone” you were now full on yelling turning to leave again
“You don't talk to me like that” Lucy yelled following you up the stairs
“What is going on here? It's past midnight” your mum appeared on the hallway
“She wouldn't leave me alone” you exclaimed upset pointing at Lucy
“She JUST came home Mum...” your sister explained “... I just want to know what's going on with her”
“Can you please yell at each other quieter?” your Mum rolled her eyes getting reminded at the situations she already lived through with Lucy and Sophie
“She can just leave me alone and I wouldn't have to say anything at all” you growled shoving Lucy hard who now stood next to you
“Just talk to me” Lucy begged “... I just want to help you”
“THEN GO BACK TO FRANCE AND FUCK OFF.....” you exploded “.... AND WHEN YOU'RE AT IT – PLEASE CRASH ON THE WAY THERE!!!”
Lucy and your Mum stood there frozen as you threw the door shut so hard that two pictures fell off the wall
“Bubs...” your sister looked at the closed door tears pooling in her eyes
“Lucy...” your Mum said softly “... she doesn't mean it... I promise... she's just going through a lot right now...”
“Why does she hate me?” Lucy asked her voice breaking
“She doesn't.... she's a teenager Lucy...” your Mum pulled her eldest daughter into a hug “... there's a lot of change going on lately and you know never was good with changes... Go to bed Love... try again later”
“I don't have time Mum...” your sister cried into her mothers shoulder “... I need to go back tonight”
“You'll find a way Lucy” your Mum kept her voice gentle “... you always did”
“Pack a bag” Lucy all but kicked down your door a few hours later
“What?” you asked sleepy not registering what's happening
“Pack... a... bag” your sister repeated while she opened your curtains “... you have an hour.... if you even think of running... I'm still faster then you”
“Go an fuck off Lucia” you now growled throwing the next best thing at her which was a glass that shattered at the wall behind your sister
“You're coming with me to Lyon” Lucy continued not even fazed by your hostile behaviour “... Mum okay-ed it, I can keep an eye on you and I'll make sure you'll be too tired to even think about fucking up”
“You can't just...” you exclaimed shocked
“Oh but I can...” your sister replied calmly “... 58 Minutes... if you're not done, I'll come back up and pull you out of your room meself”
“I hate you!” you yelled after her as she left you alone again
“I don't care” Lucy yelled back smirking to herself
“Welcome to France” your sister sing songed as you exit the plane
“It's dirty and it smells like a trash pit” you grumbled as Lucy threw her arm around your shoulders
“Stop being grumpy” Lucy chuckled
“I still hate you and I still wished we crashed” you growled
“Hm... yeah... sorry I couldn't help you with that...” your sister kept her voice light and her mood calm “... we're gonna pick up your luggage and then we'll drive to me flat... tomorrow at 8 we have to be at the trainings grounds and you'll come with me.... if you don't come willingly I'll force you”
“You can't...” you snapped
“I can... what you wanna do? Run away? Good luck... they don't speak english here... Book a flight back? Good luck again... you don't have the money and on top you need to be accompanied by an adult...” Lucy gave you a reality check “... oh an the longer you decide to be all twaty the longer you'll stay with me and train here...”
“First chance I get I'll end your career” you growl helplessly
“Come on Bubs...” Lucy yelled from behind you “... keep an eye on the other right winger”
“Well... for what are you there?” you turned around frustrated as Eugénie Le Sommer took the ball off you again
“To get you back in line” your sister smirked and you used a stray ball to belt it towards her missing her by inches
“Tu vas mieux” Wendi smiled ruffling your hair
“No idea what you said but... tu es nul aussi” you shrugged your shoulders making all the French players burst out laughing
“You getting gooder” Wendi laughed
“Gooder is not a word... frog leg” you grumbled
“Lucy... dis-lui qu'elle va bien” Eugénie laughed
“They say you're getting better Bubs...” Lucy smiled her chest puffed out proudly
“They could also learn english... no one speaks French in the world... everyone speaks english...” you grumbled as you started to dribble a little bit
“Stop being so grumpy all the time... they were nice enough to let me bring you here” your sister groaned
“Yeah well... I'm not here by choice” you huffed picking up with your foot volleying it towards the goal
“Bubs please...” Lucy rolled her eyes still haven't figured out what was going on with you
“Please what?” you snapped watching the ball hitting the back off the net
“Just talk to me” your sister said and everyone around slowly but surely stepped back giving you two some space
“What you wanna hear? How alone I felt when you left? How suddenly it wasn't fun anymore to play? How the whole team sucked when you weren't standing behind me anymore? How it feels to hear “... Lucy would do it this way... Lucy would've cleared that ball easily... Lucy was more alert... Lucy Lucy Lucy” all the damn time? How nothing made sense anymore?” it exploded out of you
“Breath” was everything Lucy said fixing you with a stare her hands grabbing your shoulders “Breath Bubs...”
You didn't even realize that you stopped breathing – you just had to get if off your chest. So when Lucy grabbed your shoulders you just shook your head not knowing how to react. Your sister sprang into action shaking you a little bit
“Breath” Lucy said firmly seeing how your face lost colour “Damnit BREATH Bubs”
THAT did the trick and you sucked in a deep breath
“Good... good Bubs” your sister said relieved “... another one... perfect... come on... deep breaths”
“I don't wanna play anymore” you whispered tears springing to your eyes
“If you really don't want to play anymore that's okay Bubs” Lucy pulled you against her hugging you tightly “... it would be a great loss for the football world but it would be okay”
“I don't want to play without you anymore” you started crying your sobs wrecking through your body
“I need to at the moment...” your sister whispered against your hair “... I want to play against you in the Champions League...”
“I don't want to play against you” you sobbed grabbing onto Lucys trainings shirt tightly
“You scared you'll lose?” Lucy chuckled “If you don't want to Bubs you don't have to... but you're so good... it would really be a loss to football”
“Can't I just play here with you?” you sniffed
“No...” your sister said gently “... City needs you... England needs you... KEIRA needs you”
“Keira has a new BFF... her names Georgia... strange girl” you hick uped
“She still needs her Bitsy more than you realize” Lucy kept her voice soft “... you're the only Bronze she has left... the other Bronze”
“I need you back home Lucy” you mumbled against her shoulder
“I'll be back for Camp soon...” your sister kissed your forehead “... I need you to get your shit together by then okay”
“Not for Camp Luce...” you looked at her your eyes red and puffy “... for forever”
“Soon Bubs... I promise” Lucy kissed your forehead again
“Don't be nervous Bits” Keira mumbled standing behind you in the tunnel
“How couldn't I be? I'm 15 and playing Champions League...” you mumbled back your whole body vibrating
“You are the best out there...” the blonde put her hand on your shoulder trying to ground you
“It's Lucy we're playing against” you took a shaky breath
“As soon as you step on that pitch she's not Lucy... she's the opponent you need to beat” Keira said her voice low knowing just how hard it was to convince yourself
“As if you could..” you started
“I have to... it's Champions League.. even to we'll get another chance I don't want to travel to Lyon having to chase down goals to get those three points”
“Got it... go out... tank them over Manc style” you mumble to yourself
“Exactly... show the world that you are the better Bronze Bitsy” Keira smiled seeing how your whole presence changed into game mode
“Come on Ref!!” you yelled upset as you picked yourself up again being the main target of Lyon “Can you PLEASE for the love of the Lord and Baby Jesus do your job??”
“Bitsy” Keira quickly jogged over pulling you back “... calm down... don't let them get to you”
“Easy for you to say... I was more on the ground that I was playing” you grumbled brushing some grass of your shorts
“Then use your brain to find a solution...” the blonde pressed a quick kiss to your temple and suddenly you had an idea and you quickly turned around
“Beattie” you yelled out running over to the Scott
“What you need F'anwylyd?” the Scott looks surprised
“Switch with me” you mumbled quickly so no one could hear you
“Scuse me?” the older player looked confused
“You go into midfield I hang back” you pressed knowing the whistle would holler any second
“Why?” Jennifer asked even more confused
“They're targeting me... when I'm in defence they don't have as much space but you'll have more space to move and get a play going” you explained pushing the Scott forward as the whistle was blown
“Good move Bubs” Lucy hugged you sideways as she walked next to you into the tunnel for half time
“Are you even allowed to speak to me?” you grumbled
“Just made you a compliment” your sister pulled a face at your mood
“Bronze...” you heard Keira holler and both of you looked up “... leave me teammate and go eat some frog legs”
“Uh... someone fucked up” you snickered seeing how Lucys face fell
“I'll unfuck it later” Lucy pushed you towards Keira offering a small smile which Keira mirrored
“I can't believe you scored that banger” Keira laughed loudly as you got bulldozed over by your teammates
You scored... at a Champions League game... at home... against Lyon... from the box – not Lyons box... your box. It was the last minute of the game and Karen told you to just belt it out of her box after there was a ruffle just in front of her goal and she lost sight of the ball for a split second. Lyon threw everything at City and you did what you've been told. Somehow the ball fell right in front of your feet and Karen yelled at you and so you just swung your leg back to then kick the ball full force down the field. Everyone followed the ball some in shock some in awe as the ball sailed down the pitch towards the opposite goal. Pauline was way off her line and when she saw which direction the ball went she sprinted back but came to late. The ball hit the back of the net as she just raced into her own box.
“I can't believe it either...” you shook your head “... Stanway get off me you pillock”
“You just scored the game winning goal” Georgia laughed loudly NOT getting off your back while Tooney decided to jump on your front
“That was a true Bronze goal” your best friend yelled her fist raised victoriously “Now no one can stop us lifting that ugly ass trophy”
Turns out someone could stop you – FC Barcelona. You made it to the semi finals when you put a foot on spanish soil. Immediately you decided you didn't like it here. It was warm and humid and warm and more humid and people didn't knew the concept of personal space. Two steps out of the plane you suddenly turned around running straight into Keira
“Woah Bits... where you wanna go?” the blonde asked amused
“Home...” you said courtly “... I don't like it here”
“It's beautiful Bits...” Keira smiled
“It's hot and humid and sticky and sunny and happy and disgusting” you grumbled
“Keep walking” the blonde laughed “... you won't go back home until after the game”
“I swear Kei if I get sunburned or a stroke I'll hold you accountable” you looked darkly at her
“Sure thing Bits...” Keira laughed pushing you forward again
“This is the last time I'll put a foot in that godforsaken country” you grumbled – it was not.
“Gooooood...” you groaned loudly “... I really hate it here”
“Why are you whining so much?” Georgia asked “This is the same facility the best players in the world train”
“Shut up Pillock” you snapped earning a warning look from Keira “It's too hot to move here”
“Our game is at 6.45 tomorrow Bits... it'll be cooler by then” Keira showed mercy and laid a cool towel over your head
“I hope it is... otherwise I'll hurt me ankle during warm up and stay in the air conditioned locker room” you grumble from under your towel
“Oh my god... that's Alexia Putellas and Jenni Hermoso” Tooney suddenly squeaked out seeing the two Barcelona players walking past the window
“Woo-hoo” you deadpanned “Two female people who are able to walk on their own... how special”
“Bitsy” Keira warned you “... stop being a tosser”
“They breath the same air as we... they're not special” you huffed
“You're unbelievable sometimes” the blonde rolled her eyes
“Stanway.... don't let her take the piss outta you” you yelled from the other side of the pitch sprinting after Alexia “.. you pillock!!!”
You were able to clear the ball just as Alexia was about to shoot throwing a dirty look at her AND Georgia
“Can't believe I have to defend too...” you huffed getting back up ignoring the hand Alexia offers you
Even tho the spanish player was a little upset you got the ball out of play before she could shoot she had to admit you were good. Far too good for her liking. So she offered you a hand to pull you back up which you ignored instead of walking past her grumbling under your breath.
“If you stand there any longer Ale you'll get roots” Jenni teased her girlfriend smirking
“This girl is so good... Jenni we need her in Barcelona” the blonde catalan answered watching as you stomped back down the field
“Well... if anyone can convince the high dogs to sign her it's you” the dark haired spaniard smiled “but now... Vamos... game isn't over Capi”
“Vale vale...” Alexia laughed as she saw Ona coming down the side line for the throw in “Keep an eye on her Jenni”
“She's too young for me” Jenni threw back but immediately drifted towards you marking you closely
“Excuse me...” you growled pushing past the large spaniard “... I can't see with your ass in me face”
“Lo siento...” the dark haired one looked perplex “.. no entiendo lo que dijiste”
“Yeah yeah whatever” you rolled your eye and suddenly sprinted forward intercepting the throw in successfully getting the ball back “... learn english if you want to have a conversation”
“This girl is a lot of work” Jenni said slightly out of breath catching up with Alexia at half time
“Tell me about it....” the blonde said “... she's everywhere and sees spaces no one else sees...”
“First time in a long time we really need to work... even Aitana looks lost” Jenni chuckled watching you as you pushed Tooney laughing
“I want her” Alexia simply said
“I feel replaced” the dark haired one looked at her girlfriend with a twinkle in her eye
“She's too young for YOU...” the blonde smirked “... not for me”
“She's not even legal...” Jenni pointed out
“And still she made you sweat” Alexia laughed
“Joder” you heard Alexia swear behind you making you smirk
“You're welcome” you smirked as you turned around already seeing Tooney flying towards you
“BANGER!!!” your best friend yelled as you caught her easily laughing at her antics “... you saw that spaniard... THAT'S how you score Champions League goals... four of you on her and she still scored”
“They don't understand you” you snorted “... you can call them twatheads and they would smile”
“They understood your banger” Tooney smiled as you put her back on the ground “... look at them”
“Don't get sloppy now Toons...” you warned “... they'll throw everything at us... they're not used to losing”
“Let them come...” your best friend matched your competitiveness “... we'll show em how it's done City style”
It was the last minute. The last minute that destroyed your dreams of lifting that “ugly ass” trophy. Of course it was Alexia Putellas from a distance. You saw that Georgia was getting tired and you couldn't blame her. The heat and humidity got to you too. On top of that you had Jenni Hermoso on you CONSTANTLY. That woman was a real pest. You saw how Georgia read Alexias move wrong getting to the right instead of the left leaving the blonde enough space to move around her. You knew that your backline was too far up to get to run into a trap so you mobilized your last power and sprinted down the pitch after Alexia. You tried to clear the ball again but the catalan learned quickly so she just stopped the ball and you slided right past her – and the ball. The second you sprung back up you saw the ball leaving her foot and you knew it was over. Barcelona celebrated that goal like it was the final and when you heard the whistle seconds after it you crouched down your head hung low
“You playing amazing” you heard someone next to you in broken english making you look up
“Not good enough” you sighed
“You making us ...” the woman made a running motion
“Run...” you offered
“Sí... run... you making us run mucho” the blonde smiled friendly
“Don't take offense in that Putellas...” you came back up “... but I really don't want to talk to you right now”
“Maybe... despacio?” Alexia looked lost
“What?” you shook your head confused
“Ehrm... slow?” the catalan asked hopefully
“Slow what?” you tried to make sense out of her
“Talk... slow?” the blonde asked a little insecure
“I no no talk you” you said like you were talking to an idiot underlining your words with gestures
“Por qué?” Alexia asked a little taken aback
“I presume that means why....” you took a breath “... look... I'm warm, sweaty and pissed off... your country is too warm and sunny for me liking... I lost a title in the last minute of the game and it was YOU who made me lose... so I no talking you”
“Eh...” the blonde was truly lost now looking at you like you were a ghost
“Ugh...” you threw your arms up “... KEIRA!!!”
“What's wrong Bits?” Keira came wandering over seeing how frustrated you were
“Make her go away...” you pointed at Alexia
“I taught you manners...” the blonde scolded you seeing how aggressively you pointed at the catalan
“I don't want to talk to her and she doesn't understand it because she's only speaking stupid spaniard” you got even mor frustrated
“Maybe she wants to congratulate you on a really good game?” Keira looked at you expectantly
“If it was a good game we'd be through to the final” you snapped now turning around leaving Keira and Alexia standing next to each other
“I'm sorry” Keira apologized to Alexia
“She good... amazing” the catalan said again not knowing what just happened
“She's hurt” the englishwoman said offering a smile “... but sí... she's amazing”
“I sorry no good ingles” Alexia apologized awkwardly
“No... your english is good...” Keira immediately shot down any insecurities the catalan could have had “... Bitsy is just.. Bitsy”
“You... maybe question her switch?” the catalan asked a little hopefully pulling a little on her jersey
“Of course...” the englishwoman smiled understanding immediately “... give me a minute... BITSY.... get your ass back here”
“NO” you yelled from the other side of the pitch talking to Tooney
“HERE.... NOW!!” Keira yelled and Alexia saw in awe how you start to trot towards Keira
“Alexia wants to swap Jerseys...” the englishwoman said giving you a warning look “... don't you dare throw a fit”
“I don't want her sweat dripping Jersey...” you looked a little disgusted
“Bitsy” Keira slapped the back of your head seeing how Alexias face fell again “If you continue to be a tosser I'll make sure to get that attitude out of you tomorrow morning 4.00”
“Doesn't she have like... a new one...” you asked carefully “... if not there are about a thousands fans here that have her jersey”
“One of the best players in the world wants your Jersey and you complain that it's a little sweaty?” Keira asks shocked
“You know I hate dirty stuff... I can't even put a plate in the sink without going back two minutes later to clean it up” you whine and for the first time Alexia saw you as the person you were
“Bitsy please... it took her a lot to ask so PLEASE....” the englishwoman said now softly knowing NOW where you were coming from
“Can you... new one?” you ask Alexia directly pointing at her jersey
“New one?” the catalan looked confused
“Yes... no sweat” you nodded hoping she understood you
“Sweat?” Alexia asked and you groaned
“Just do it Bits...” Keira nudged you gently
“But it's so sweaty...” you whined but pulled your Jersey over your head offering it to the catalan who quickly did the same with her jersey smiling widely
“You good looking at Blaugrana” Alexia smiled happily as you put her jersey on
“Don't get used to it...” you wave off “... that's gonna be the last time you'll see me wearing that”
It wasn't.
“Welcome back to Barcelona Cariño” Alexia smiled as you got out of the black Cupra
“Look at that... someone knows three more words in english” you grumbled “... for your and everyones Information... I'm not here by choice”
“I studied hard to make you feel more welcome” the catalan kept the smile on her face being told by Lucy before not to give into your current mood
“Yeah well... if your club wouldn't have made me club selling me and I would've had a CHOICE to be here I would feel SO welcomed” you growled keeping your distance to the blonde
“Cari... your club is Barcelona now” the blonde said softly
“It isn't... it'll never be...” you snapped “... I hated it here the last time and this time isn't any different”
“Your sister plays here...” Alexia pointed out “... didn't you want to play with her again? Keira joined too....”
“I got used to play without Lucy...” your voice dripping with venom “... let's get this over with... what do I have to do?”
“I'll show you around a little and then there will be a photoshoot” the blonde sighed seeing in your body language that there will be a lot of fight coming from your end
“Do I have to put on this god awful Jersey again?” you asked as you followed Alexia inside
“Yes...” she simply said as she pushed a door open “... this is our team room.... here you can come before training or stay afterwards... it's there so we all can come together and just spend time together – you are not obligated to come here I would advise it for starters... get to know the team”
“I don't need to get to know them... I know everything from them I need to know” you mumbled your mood not increasing
“Like what?” the catalan challenged you
“All their stats... passing rate... fitness... weaknesses....” you shrugged your shoulders
“That's what everyone can look up...” Alexia said gently “... I mean get to know the team personally”
“No interest in any personal stuff...” you grumbled “... I hope to get out of here by November”
“You signed a contract” the blonde pointed out
“No... I'm legally not allowed to sign contracts... my Parents signed the contract” you said as a matter of fact “... they sold me like a cheap whore”
“You really don't want to be here...” the catalan looked shocked and lost
“No I don't...” you huffed “... but don't worry... I'm professional enough to do my job... I'll be here for training... do my part at games – if I get playing time that is... and smile for pictures... other than that I just want my peace and quiet”
“Here at Barcelona we're familia...” Alexia started “... I understand that this transfer came as a surprise for you and that you had no say in it doesn't make it better... but we are familia and you are a part of that now too... give the team a chance... it's not their fault you got traded”
“Hm... interesting offer..” you thought about it for a second and Alexia really started to hope “... no”
“Okay... I can't do more then to tell you that you are familia now too...” the catalan huffed defeated “... this way to the locker rooms”
“How did it go Capi?” Lucy came to a halt next to Alexia who overlooked your photoshoot
“Not good” the blonde answered shortly
“I'm sorry...” your sister looked embarrassed
“She doesn't want to be her Lucy...” Alexia said not taking her eyes off you “... she's an emotional player and she plays so much better when her mind is at ease... but right now.. she's so angry...”
“City did her dirty Ale...” Lucy looked over to you seeing how the photographer tried to get a smile out of you “... she's hurting... I just beg you to not let her get to you.. you'll need a long breath but she's a good kid... I know it's gonna be hard but you'll need to stay calm with her and PLEASE don't let her rot on the bench”
“She's too good for the bench...” the catalan snorted “... but she's not ready to play a full game... she'll collapse...”
“She'll come around Capi I promise...” your sister said convinced “... Keira will help too... when she sees me and Keira interacting with the team she'll come around too”
“I hope so Lucy...” Alexia sighed “.... I really do hope so”
“Go back to england” you heard a fan yell towards you after your first game
“I wish I could!!!!!” you snapped back getting right into his face “You think I WANT to be here?”
“Woah Bubs...” Lucy was quickly to intercept grabbing you shoving you into Alexias arms signalling her to get you away
“What the hell?!” Alexia exploded once you were inside the tunnel
“Let go” you grunted fighting her tooth and nail
“No...” the catalan pushed you forward “... we're going to have a talk”
“In here” she pushed you into a meeting room “... what were you THINKING?!”
“I just said what I told you before” you snapped back at her “... I don't WANT to be here”
“Okay enough..” Alexia yelled and for the first time you were a little scared of her “... the team was nothing than welcoming to you... you fit into our playing style... you just played your first game and you were a game changer... I understand that you're still upset about the trade but you can't let them get to you like that”
“You... don't understand” you said your voice breaking
“Then tell me so I do” the blonde says softly seeing how you were near your breaking point
“I want to go home” it suddenly broke out of you tears streaming down your face “I want to go back to me friends and me Club...”
“Cariño...” Alexia said softly “... this is your Club now.. I understand that's difficult for you but Barcelona is your home now”
“I want to go back....” you cried standing in the middle of the room with Alexia a few feet away
“I promise this team wants to get to know you...” the blonde kept her voice gentle inching a little bit closer “... to us you already are familia... let them see how amazing you are”
“But I don't want to get to know them” you sniffled taking a the one step back that Alexia inched closer to you
“Cari... I understand this isn't what you wanted but let us help you... you need to accept that in near future nothing will change about your situation” Alexia spoke softly noticing how you still weren't ready to let her comfort you “... you ARE familia... you can be angry and fight everything or you can start to let us in and accept that we won't get off your back... we won't stop trying and we certainly won't leave you to fend for your own”
“But why?” you felt so uncomfortable
“You are familia” the catalan repeated again “You are my Cariño, Mapís Neña, Ingrids weird norwegian thing, Jenni refers to you as Pequeña and Ona calls you Bebita... you just doesn't want to hear it because you're so angry with this... but you are already shining but díos mio you could shine so mucho brighter”
“I just don't know how... all my life I played City Style...” you mumbled and this time you didn't move when Alexia came closer
“Just play Cari...” the blonde smiled carefully grabbing your hand letting her thumb caressing your knuckles “... just do what you love the most and the rest will come... oh... and stay away from Mapí, Piña and Patri... I have a feeling you four will give me a headache”
“I don't need them...” you huffed “.... I can headache you all by meself”
“Oh Cari” Alexia laughed loudly pulling you into a tight hug
“Mapí!!!!” you yelled sprinting down the side line Alexia hot on your heels
“I got you Neña...” the Zaragoza yelled throwing a filled water balloon at her best friend hitting Alexia square in the chest
“Uh oh...” Mapí looked horrified as the blonde catalan came to a sudden halt turning towards her
“Neña...” the tattooed spaniard stammered slowly walking backwards as Alexia made her way over “... NEÑAAAA!!!!”
“Run you spanner... RUN!!” you yelled turning on your heels running back to help Mapí so you decided to jump on Alexias back laughing loudly
“I TOLD you you two are NOT allowed to be unsupervised” the catalan grumbled yet still her hands came around securing you on her back so you wouldn't hurt yourself
“The grumpy norwegian was there” you laughed your arms hanging loosely around the blondes neck
“She has a name” Caro grumbled when she walked past flicking your ear
“Grumpy... see” you exclaimed trying to avoid another flick nearly brining Alexia down
“Stop it you little pest...” Alexia huffed trying to hold her balance with you wriggling on her back “... go annoy Jenni”
“But you are victim of the day” you pouted with Mapí nodding furiously behind Ingrid
“And you will be winner of extra laps in a second... go annoy someone else” the blonde set you back down
“But..” you started again
“Vamos... I have media to do...” Alexia pushed you away slightly smiling to herself when she heard you huff.
It took you around four month until you finally agreed to join the team for a dinner and Alexia decided to push you out of your comfort zone placing you between herself and Irene. Lucy wasn't happy about it fussing over you the entire time you were still closed off pulling back every time one of the other players reached out to you. Now no one could ever imagine that you once were a lone wolf. Just as Alexia predicted you hit it off with Mapí, Piña and Patri – much to the Captains dismay. All three Captains. Jenni always sweared hell and poison on the frustrating four when she was on the receiving end of your pranks
“Jenni already left” you pouted holding onto Alexias trainings jersey
“Then annoy your sister” the blonde waved off
“Ay!!!” Lucy exclaimed from the other side of the pitch looking shocked
“Lucy!!!” you yelled and immediately you and Mapí took off towards her
“No no no no no no no” your sister waved her hands panicked not knowing where to go – so she did what she thought was best... she grabbed Ona pulling the small spaniard in front of her using her as a human shield
“Atureu-vos!!” Ona strictly said giving you and Mapí are warning glare making you halt in your movement Mapí running into your back pushing you forward nearly into Ona
“Are you serious?” the smaller spaniard turned around looking at her girlfriend “A re you really using me to stop YOUR sister?”
“They are scared of you” Lucy shrugged her shoulders embarrassed smiling apologetic
“Unbelievable” Ona rolled her eyes shooing the two of you away “Trobeu algú més”
“What she saying?” you looked confused at Mapí
“She's a not fun person” Mapí grumbled pulling you away “That what she's saying”
“I knew that already...” you huffed letting the tattooed spaniard pull you forward “... she always brings home these fin things... and then leaves them laying around in the kitchen”
“You would benefit from eating fish from time to time as well Bebita” the small spaniard yelled after you “.... now to you”
“I... love you??” Lucy smiled hopefully knowing she was in deep shit
It was safe to say you finally found your place. In a country that was still too hot for your liking. With a team that included 75% lunatics. With a playing style you needed to get used too. But you fit in. Alexia took you under her wing staying after trainings when she noticed you hid a ball from the staff to train on your own. The blonde watched you working on your technique, speed and stamina. She left you to sort your problems out on your own before stepping back on the pitch offering help and sometimes a shoulder to cry on when you got overwhelmed or frustrated.
Jenni took it upon herself to shield and protect you from the world. Whenever someone came to close and she saw how uncomfortable you got she pushed herself between you and the offending person. She also pushed herself between you and some fans when you lost your temper starting to argue with them. Most of the time you climbed on the lanky spaniards back to continue to argue just from a higher point. Jenni was one of the few people who was allowed to carry you when you fell asleep on the bus after a game or to the way to one.
Irene mothered you like she mothered Mateo. She always made sure you drank enough – not sugary stuff tho – eat properly and got enough sleep. When you were extremly grumpy and close to a tantrum she'll be the one putting her foot down sending you to your hotel room without dessert to later pay you a visit talking it out. At one point she even made sure that she packed a spare kit for you since you've been known to not be the cleanest eater. The amount of times the poor kit woman had to try to get tomato sauce out of your clothes were uncounterable. So Irene took over the task to have everything ready if needed. Including the cereal bars you absolutely loved but made the nutrition coach get a stroke.
Ingrid was the one who always managed to calm you down. You were young and hot headed and while you got quite good holding in your temper if the other players prodded you once to often you just exploded in their faces. So everyone looked at Ingrid to retrieve you and calm you down. The natural calmness of the norwegian made it hard for you to keep fuelling your fire. Ingrid just kept her hand lightly on the back of your neck and instantly you calmed down.
Frido was the fun Aunt who bought you everything you asked for and even stuff you didn't ask for. That's how you ended up with a motocross bike for your 18th birthday much to the horror of Keira, Ona, Alexia, Irene and obviously your Mum. Lucy and Jenni already debated who could have the bike on what day of the week until Ona and Alexia put a firm stop on their discussion confiscating the keys immediately. Frido had to hand out her credit card to Alexia until she thought of a more useful less dangerous present. So Frido got you a car with the argument less dangerous since more metal around you. This time Irene fished the Keys out of your hand telling you you'd get them back once you passed your drivers license and showed them you were a good driver. The swede just rolled her eyes at the adults calling them spoilsports earning herself five extra laps.
Aitana was your go-to for quietness. The quiet spaniard never bothered you or minded your presence and sometimes this was just what you needed. You also made it to your personal goal to teach her proper english after you heard her ask a fan if they “work or no work”. You had a coronary.... right there. Aitana taught you catalan. You asked her to keep it a secret until you were fluent enough to join a conversation throwing half the team off. The brown haired spaniard agreed smirking evilly when you out of the blue joined a conversation between Alexia and Ona giving your two cents before casually walking down the tunnel towards the locker rooms leaving the two dumb folded.
And then there were Mapí, Piña and Patri. Together with you the team called you the “frustrating four” since when you four were together in one place it'll frustrate the adults to no end trying to figure out what prank you'll come up with next. Or get frustrated by your pranks. The three women were your saviour. Mapí might be small and appeared to be easy going but in reality she loved you like a sister and fought every one who said a bad word against you. Piña was the one who poked you to do something that would get the four of you in immense trouble but she knew you were the one having a special stand with Alexia and Irene so your punishment would be lighter. Patri was the one always cheering you on. No matter if it was on or off the pitch. Whenever you needed a cheerleader you knew Patri was there. She made you run faster, jump higher, shoot harder. She also made you run faster when Alexia was on your heels again.
All of them got to witness how you grew from the angry unhappy girl to the mostly grown up focused young woman. That's why Alexia – La Reina de Barcelona – waited to lift the Champions League trophy until you were next to her when you won your first ever title. You were the first who lifted the trophy (the ugly ass trophy which Tooney pointed out several times next camp) after your Captain even before Irene and Jenni did. And just as your team celebrated, singing loudly you tip toed away finding the person you grew to like very much over the past year. You knocked on the visitors locker room door nervously and asked for the woman who came out and you saw how much the loss took a toll on her
“Here to gloat your victory around?” the woman asked her shoulders hung low
“No... here to win again” you grinned taking her face into your hands kissing her softly
“I knew you liked me all those years” the blonde grinned once the kiss ended
“Pillock” you snorted as you felt her hand grab the back of your neck pulling you in for another kiss

( short fic ) 𝐀 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐋𝐘 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing : fwb!quinn x fem!reader wc. 1.3k
genre : fluff(?) angst(?) quinn and reader have too many thoughts in their heads no warnings really
summary : you and quinn navigate the blurred lines of what you have going on, each secretly wondering if there’s more between you than just physical connection
Tumblr media
quinn sat alone in his dark apartment, the hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen the only sound cutting through the stillness. his phone rested in his palm, the soft glow from the screen illuminating his face as his thumb hovered over a single contact.
he didn’t know why he felt this way tonight. maybe it was the silence, or the ache that came with sitting in a space that no longer felt like home. his teammates had plans, the usual banter and beers, but he’d turned it down, muttering some halfhearted excuse. the truth was, he didn’t feel like being around anyone who’d ask too many questions.
no one except you.
are you up?
he hit send and dropped the phone onto the couch cushion beside him, holding his breath like he was waiting for something that might not come.
it was late—later than a reasonable hour to be texting someone you weren’t technically dating. “friends” didn’t fit either. friends didn’t hold each other the way you did when the lights were off. friends didn’t seek comfort in the warmth of someone else’s bed after long, lonely nights.
a few minutes passed. quinn exhaled, leaning back against the couch, and just as his phone buzzed, his heart jumped.
y/n : yeah, i’m up. you okay?
he hesitated for a moment, fingers ghosting over the screen. he didn’t want to say too much. this thing between you didn’t have boundaries, but it had unspoken rules. don’t ask too much. don’t admit too much. don’t be too honest.
can i come over?
the typing bubbles appeared and disappeared once, twice. he imagined you sitting there, curled up in the oversized sweater you liked to sleep in, weighing the pros and cons of letting him in. finally, your answer came.
y/n : yeah. door’s open
⋆˙⟡
when he showed up at your door, hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie, his hair damp from a quick shower, you couldn’t help but smile faintly. it was late—too late for casual hangouts—but you didn’t mind. you hadn’t been able to shake your own restlessness, and quinn’s presence felt like a solution to a problem neither of you had named.
“hey,” you said softly, stepping aside to let him in.
“hey.” he shrugged out of his jacket and toed off his sneakers. there was an easy familiarity to his movements, like he’d done this a hundred times before. and he had.
the two of you ended up on your couch, the same couch that had seen more than a few nights like this one. you handed him a glass of water, taking a sip from your own as you curled your legs beneath you. the silence was comfortable, but it felt heavier tonight, like something unsaid hung between you.
“you okay?” you asked eventually, looking at him through the soft glow of the lamp on your side table.
quinn glanced at you, the muscles in his jaw working like he was debating whether to tell the truth. “yeah. just didn’t feel like being alone tonight.”
your heart tugged at his honesty. “me either,” you admitted, your voice quiet.
that seemed to catch his attention. he turned to face you a little more, resting his arm along the back of the couch. “why’s that?”
you shrugged, swirling the water in your glass. “i don’t know. i think i get in my own head when it’s this quiet. makes me think about… things.”
“what kinds of things?”
“things i’m not sure i want to talk about.” you shot him a small, teasing smile to lighten the weight of the conversation. “what about you?”
he didn’t smile back—not fully. “probably the same.”
and just like that, the air between you changed. it wasn’t the usual easy companionship, the stolen moments of closeness that you had both become so used to. tonight felt different, and you weren’t sure how to handle that.
“do you ever think about…” quinn trailed off, his voice low and unsure.
“think about what?”
he shifted a little, looking at his hands. “where this is going. us, i mean.”
your heart skipped a beat. “quinn…”
“i’m not saying i want to mess this up,” he cut in quickly, like he needed to get the words out before he lost his nerve. “i just—i think about it sometimes. what it would be like if we tried to be more than… this.”
you stared at him, your pulse racing in your ears. this—whatever “this” was—had worked because it was easy. there were no strings, no expectations, just you and quinn finding comfort in each other when you needed it most. but now, he was opening a door you weren’t sure you were ready to walk through.
“do you want that?” you asked softly, carefully.
quinn ran a hand through his hair, letting out a long breath. “i don’t know. maybe. i just—” he looked at you then, really looked at you, and the honesty in his eyes made your chest ache. “i like being around you. not just like this. i like talking to you and… knowing you’re here. i don’t want to lose that.”
you swallowed, trying to ignore the way your throat tightened at his words. “i feel the same way,” you admitted.
“yeah?”
“yeah.”
the two of you sat in silence for a moment, the weight of the conversation settling between you. it was terrifying to admit what you were both feeling—to acknowledge that maybe this thing you had wasn’t as casual as you’d pretended it was.
quinn shifted closer, his knee brushing against yours as he leaned back into the couch. “you don’t have to answer right now. i just… i wanted you to know.”
you looked at him, at the way his brows furrowed in that familiar way they always did when he was thinking too hard about something. you’d seen him like this before—vulnerable and quiet—but tonight, it hit you differently. maybe because you felt the same way.
“okay,” you said softly, reaching out to place your hand on his arm. “thank you for telling me.”
he nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as his shoulders relaxed slightly. then, you shifted closer, your body leaning gently against his. “you don’t have to leave tonight if you don’t want to.”
it wasn’t an offer you usually made. you didn’t stay. it was an unspoken rule. but something in the way you said it—soft, tentative—made quinn’s heart skip a beat.
“you sure?” he asked, searching your face.
you smiled faintly. “yeah. i think i’d like it if you stayed.”
quinn let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding, a quiet “okay” falling from his lips. he shifted so his arm could wrap around your shoulders, pulling you close. your head rested against his chest, and for the first time in a long time, the silence didn’t feel so loud.
you stayed like that for a while—two lonely people finding solace in each other’s presence. quinn could feel himself relaxing, his eyes starting to drift shut as he breathed you in.
the admission hung in the air between the two of you, fragile but undeniable. quinn felt something shift inside him, like a door cracking open. maybe tonight wasn’t just another lonely night. maybe it was the start of something more.
you smiled—a real one this time, not the tired version you’d worn earlier—and settled back against his chest. he held you tighter, pressing a kiss to the top of your head as his eyes slipped closed.
there was still so much left unsaid, but for now, this was enough. almost something, but not quite.
and maybe that was okay. for tonight.

helloooooo, your writing is amazingggggg and i was hoping it would be okay if i requested a shadowww x reader. Where Maybe sonic ask shadow to bring medicine to you (to try and introduce you to shadow as your sick with something or have a major injury, etc). Shadow prehaps is annoyed but agrees anyways, then however when he meets you sees maria in you. Then veryday to be sure you get better shows up in the morning to help take care of you, and slowly the two become friends then prehaps at the end share a kiss and become lovers? Idk it sounded cute in my head lol.

WARNING: Illness
PAIRING: Shadow the Hedgehog x Sick! Reader
NOTE: This is such a cute request and I'm pretty proud of this! Sending you all the love, and I hope this brightens your day a little! Take care of yourself <333
SUMMARY: Shadow reluctantly delivers medicine to you at Sonic’s insistence, but upon meeting you, he’s struck by a haunting familiarity.
Tumblr media
It was late afternoon when Shadow approached the house tucked away at the edge of the city, a small bag of medicine clutched in his gloved hand. The only reason he was here, he reminded himself, was because Sonic had all but begged him to.
“Come on, Shadow,” Sonic had said earlier, exasperated but hopeful. “They’re too sick to go anywhere, and I’m tied up with something. Just drop it off and say hi. You might even like them!”
Shadow had scoffed at that. “Highly unlikely.”
Yet here he was, standing at your door. He knocked, sharp and deliberate, and waited.
A muffled voice from inside called, “Coming!”
The door creaked open, revealing you. Despite the exhaustion evident in your eyes and the pallor of your complexion, you greeted him with a weak but genuine smile.
“Oh, you must be… Shadow?” you asked hesitantly.
He nodded curtly, holding out the medicine. “Sonic sent me. He thought you might need this.”
You accepted the bag with a quiet “thank you,” looking up at him with an expression so open, so trusting, that it stopped him in his tracks. For a fleeting moment, he was no longer standing at your doorstep but aboard the ARK, looking into the kind eyes of someone he thought he’d lost forever.
Maria.
The resemblance wasn’t physical, but there was something about your demeanor—gentle, unassuming, and kind despite the pain you were clearly in—that tugged at a memory buried deep in his chest.
“You okay?” you asked, noticing his prolonged silence.
He blinked, snapping himself out of the moment. “Fine. Just… don’t forget to take the medicine.”
You chuckled lightly, the sound hoarse but pleasant. “I won’t. Thanks again, Shadow.”
He nodded again, turning on his heel and disappearing into the fading daylight.
To Shadow’s own surprise, he returned the next morning.
It had been a restless night. Thoughts of Maria swirled in his mind, but they mingled with the image of your weary yet kind face. He told himself he was simply being thorough, ensuring you were following the instructions for the medication.
When you opened the door again, wrapped in a blanket and looking just as surprised as you were grateful, Shadow felt the smallest pang of relief.
“You’re back,” you said, stepping aside to let him in.
“You didn’t seem capable of taking care of yourself yesterday,” he replied bluntly, though there was no malice in his tone.
You laughed softly. “Fair enough.”
It became a routine. Every morning, Shadow arrived with something—soup, tea, a fresh supply of tissues—and checked on you. At first, his visits were brief and businesslike. He would make sure you had what you needed and leave with little more than a nod. But as the days passed, the conversations grew longer.
You learned to expect his dry wit and sharp observations, and he found himself oddly drawn to your quiet resilience. Despite how miserable you felt, you always thanked him sincerely, your gratitude genuine and unassuming.
“You don’t have to keep doing this, you know,” you said one morning as he set a cup of tea on your bedside table.
“I know,” he replied simply, sitting in the chair he’d claimed as his own.
“Then why?”
He hesitated, his crimson eyes flicking to the floor. “You…” he paused, looking back at you with a sigh. “I don’t know.”
You didn’t press him, sensing the weight of his words, but your soft “Okay, thank you.” carried more meaning than either of you acknowledged.
By the time you were well enough to venture outside again, the bond between you and Shadow was undeniable.
“You don’t have to come by anymore,” you said one evening as he walked you back to your door after a short outing. “But… I’d miss you if you didn’t.”
He paused, his gaze meeting yours. There was something unspoken in his eyes, something vulnerable.
“I’d miss you too,” he admitted, the words slow but sincere.
Before you could second-guess yourself, you leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. His eyes widened, and for the first time since you’d met him, Shadow looked genuinely flustered.
“Thank you, Shadow,” you whispered. “For everything.”
His lips quirked into the smallest of smiles, a rare and precious sight. “I... You’re welcome.”
And from that moment on, his visits were no longer about ensuring your recovery—they were about seeing you.

You should have known better. It’s not the first time you’ve been ditched, but it might be the last. Huh.
You make good money on your work. You’re nothing noble or special. You’re just damn good at your job. Fighting and killing come second hand. You could blame it on your parents. Blame it on working at a slaughterhouse. Blame it on getting picked on and having to fight for yourself. Blame it on needing cash to live. The details don’t matter all that much. You’re a good fighter and a better killer. Someone told you that your need to survive made you different. You don’t think so and you’re tired of hearing it.
It’s not just the shady folks that hire you. You get plenty of employers of good standing. The adventurers aren’t special. A set in a line of many that want extra hands or extra cannon fodder. You tend to be lucky enough to be the former. You’ve ended up in jail more than once for people like this. Your wealthier employers tend to bail you out. You were valuable enough for the extra investment. Worth more alive, and all that. So you’ve been around a few dozen times.
Being ditched in the field isn’t new but being half dead is.
You should have seen it on their faces. You should have known better. They didn’t want you there, but someone thought they needed you. It makes sense they ditched you once the boss went down.
But damn. They didn’t even watch it happen. Straight for the loot, huh? On some level you respect it, on the other level you’re bleeding out and you can only watch them run away. Not even a one liner? A spit on your body? A single piece of gold thrown on your body and a good “there’s your payment, you filthy animal.”
Huh. Maybe you deserve it. You never messed with theatrics. Why would you get any?
Things are fading in and out. Blood loss is always a pain to deal with. It would be easier to let go, you think. You still put pressure on the wound in your stomach and side and breathe through the pain. It’d be insulting if you just let yourself keel over, right? No, you’re just scared.
“Guess we’re both expendable, huh?”
You don’t have it in you to startle. The boss that you were damn sure was dead is not that. Alive enough to banter with you. It’s more than you offered anyone. What a sweetheart.
“Dunno,” you say. “Never really thought of it.”
It makes sense. You’re not a hero. What were the chances of you actually out-living adventurers like the ones that ditched you here? You’re worth more alive, but when is the investment no longer worth it?
“‘S funny,” the boss says. Chatty, you think. What can you do but humor them? “Didn’t think heroes would leave their own behind.”
“I was hired,” you say.
“Really?”
They laugh. Then cough and choke on blood or their own spit. You wait for them to finish their cackling, and then continue to wait for the end.
“They're always picky with their heroes, huh?”
Oh boy, the pronoun game.
“Don’t care,” you say. May whatever higher power there is forgive your temper as you’re dying. “It’s work.”
“Ah. You’re one of those,” they say. Like they know you. Ugh. You want to finish the job. “I always liked those. Basic motivations are the best. Nothing to second guess.”
You roll your eyes. You’ve heard it all before. What is it worth now?
“I tried the whole leader thing,” they say. “Good worshippers are hard to find, you know?”
You don’t. You won’t.
“Sounds more like a cult.” “Eh. Same thing,” they dismiss.
“What were you even the god of?” you snap. You can’t help it. This guy wasn’t any more special than you--that is: not.
“Anything I could get my hands on,” they say. “I wasn’t picky. Got enough of something that I became this, though.”
A boss. A few tiers above the usual monsters that you can find, always locked up in some kind of home base.
“So were you a god or not?”
“No, never got that far. Wouldn’t have lost to you if I did.”
“Sure. Lie to yourself.”
They laugh again, “I like that. Confidence like that is usually up on some pedestal. Good on you.”
“Yeah. Did me a lot of good.”
“Did you enough,” they say. “You’re not new at this, must have been going for a while.”
“It’s work,” you repeat. It’s always work. It’s to survive.
“You want a new job?” they ask.
You lift your head enough to look over at them. They’re flat on their back. Your spear is still in their chest. It’s what’s keeping them from bleeding out. You know better than to leave the weapon in, but you were distracted by the whole dying thing.
It’s getting harder to keep the pressure on your wound. Your hands are getting weaker. You’re getting weaker. You’re surprised you’re still awake. And what is this guy talking about? …You’ll indulge it. What else are you going to do?
“Contract?” you ask.
“Sure,” they say.
A silver contract appears in front of you, something you don’t see too often. The consequences on silvers are serious, most people just do physical ones or bronzes.
You squint to make sense of the blurring letters.
“Follower? Really? What, are you still trying to form that cult?” you snort. It hurts and you dig your fingers into your skin. You don’t even feel it.
“Good clerics are hard to find,” they say.
“Hah, and your lucky cleric is about to kick the bucket,” you say. “Sucks to be you.”
“Read it.”
“Sorry. It gets hard to read with blood in your eyes.”
“You live. You worship me.”
You grimace. Sounds like a hassle. But… the idea of continuing to live is like candy. What else is there to do? It’s work.
You sign.
You’re a mercenary hired by adventurers to defeat the boss. After the battle, they loot the treasure and abandon you wounded. The defeated boss crawls over and says, “Guess we’re both expendable, huh?”

Im keeping my promise about posting guys <33
The morning sun slightly blended in through the curtain of your room, it was the weekend and you had no real intentions of waking up. At least, that was the initial plan.
"Nee-san!"
You grumbled over your breath in response to the familiarness of the name, rolling over to the other side of your pillow and finding a comfy position before getting ready to double click on the z's again. "Nee-san!"
A small head of tussled black hair dashed into your room, with a slightly taller head of reddish brown following close behind. "NEE-SAN". The ongoing commotion from the two children managed to wake you up from your slumber, not without irritation of course. "what the hell.." you peeked from under your covers to come face to face with your two so called brothers, and to think that you were safe this morning since you had time before your parents went out. Turns out the time was too little.
Using your pillow as a support, you manage to sit up successfully and turn to look at your brothers, eyes squinting from the sunlight you manage to get a few words out, "can you guys explain.." you take a pause with a long sigh, "why you two are running around the house like some wild pets that are yet to be vaccinated??.."
"soccer!"
You blinked before coming to your senses. "what?."
"Soccer." Replied the older of the two
The both of them chanted, Little Rin with the biggest smile and Sae behind him with this stare. You thought having one soccer fanatic in the family was enough, but Rin ended up picking up the terrible obsession after hanging out too much with Sae. You make a mental note on how much this is your fault since you were so busy with other things to actually make an attempt to bond with your little brothers. A miscalculation on your end you will make sure not to make ever again.
Rin stepped forward and presented a soccer ball in his hands with energy and excitement emitting off of his very being. "play with us, please!"
"quit being lukewarm and get your lazy butt out of bed." Sae said with a light glare. You took off the top sheet you used to cover yourself with before facing the little devils. "Quit making an intense overuse of "lukewarm" for me while you get that attitude in check" you snarked back.
"let's play! please nee-san! You aren't busy right? Lets go, go go!!" It was early as ever this morning and Rin was already raring to go, tugging on your arms and all. You sweat dropped at the sight of the little boy trying to drag you out of bed. "Sorry Rinny..I have plans."
Suddenly it wasn't Rin in front of you, but Sae, "nee-san...surely you wouldn't leave your little brothers all alone" The little brat upgraded to a bastard in less than 10 years..you underestimated him a bit too much. He knew what he was doing, but what hurt even more was that you knew that he was right. You couldn't leave some 4 and 7 year old's to their own devices, especially these two. Sae was a far from normal child and leaving Rin with him was more of a gamble than you were willing to take.
With a depressed sigh you came to a bone crushing conclusion, "get dressed in 5, we're going out." You were going to regret this, not like there hasn't been a moment you haven't.
"[name]!" A young boy called out. Your meeting today was near a soccer field, and oh the irony, since you've brought the two addicts in the flesh. His blonde hair grew longer since the last time you've seen him, and not to mention he's grown a little taller. "Micheal!" you waved back. He ran up to you from his spot with sudden urgency. His clothes were dirtied more than they would usually be.
you assume hes been practicing a lot more recently with the way he started panting like a dog. “Oh, did you bring your little brothers??” He looked at the small children behind to you.
Rin looked at him curiously before bursting out into a smile “Hi!! Are you [name]-nees friend??”
“Too bright”…you sweatdropped at the mini sun introducing himself. Sae, ever the anti-social one, settled to stare at the older boy instead.
“Lukewarm—“
before he could finish the rest of the sentence you slapped the back of his head while Kaiser doubled back in surprise.
“Sorry about him. He’s been on this one word tangent for a while and won’t stop. This is Sae” you introduced him.
”aha! Right!” He wondered with the way the youngest didnt react to you slapping your brother if this was a normal occurrence. ”so what did you have in mind today?”
“You want to walk around? Theres some good as scenery's around here I wanted to take a look at.”
“Sure! Im down for it.” You didn’t want to do anything too exciting today, considering the fact Micheal had to get back home soon. You were aware of his situation at home and tried your best to accommodate the best you could.
the two younger Itoshi’s could only watch you two chatter away with smiles. This was sure to be an interesting evening.
                           ITOSHI OMAKE
sae was, unsure of what to make of this. Him and Rin were walking behind you two as you both giggles and chuckled away.
Just what the hell was this?
surely this couldn’t be the start of what he thought to be…what do you call it, potential love interest? It can’t be. Its just too good to be true.
Rin, ever the angel wouldn’t understand the danger their older sibling was in right now. If he didn’t tread carefully, that blue serpent would steal you right from under his nose.
“nii-san…does nee-san like him?” Good God. If even Rin noticed the new behavior, he knew you were a goner.
”they’re just good friends, Rin.” He remarked, almost as if he was convincing himself. Yeah, just good friends. Nothing else brewing in the pot.
“Okay!!” He nodded along. Anything his older siblings said was nothing short of truth in little Rin’s head, of course.

Angst Villain x civilian where the villain cheats on civilian with hero
“If it is of any comfort, it didn’t mean that much to me." The villain cocked their head, as if they were thinking about something intensively - which they weren't. They looked at the civilian, but failed to conjure any pity.
Their partner, well, probably ex-partner now, looked at them with wide eyes and tears rolling down their cheeks.
"I-" The civilian's hands were shaking, their face contorted in pain. "What did I- what did I do wrong?"
Their voice was shaking.
"Nothing."
"I..." The civilian took in a deep breath. "Oh god..."
They gasped for air desperately but the villain couldn't help but think about the hero in their bed, moaning lovingly. It was true that the civilian hadn't done anything wrong. They were quite good company to keep around. They were tidy (which was very important to the villain), they were nice, avoided conflict, didn't ask too many questions. The perfect kind of person to keep around, someone who wasn't getting involved in the villain's business.
But when it came to pure desire, the hero was simply more tempting. It was about power.
The civilian wasn't a challenge in bed.
The hero on the other hand...
"Oh god...I can't-" The civilian gasped for air over and over again, coming very close to mimicking a panic attack.
"I can move out if you want, or you do. Whatever you like."
"I wanted to marry you, I - I love you, I..." The villain raised a lazy brow.
"We can still get married if you want to, but I'd like to screw the hero every now and then," the villain said. The civilian turned away, but the villain could obviously tell that they were crying harder now. They would have never brought this up, but unfortunately, the villain had gotten a bit lazy and the civilian had found out about the affair.
It wasn't the end of the world, but the villain had planned to keep the civilian around for a little longer. More than once, they had thought about proposing to the civilian out of pure necessity, but the amount of work linked to that, had spoiled the idea quickly.
"You don't have to decide now," the villain clarified. "It's an option, that's all."
The civilian's back was still turned towards them.
"I had so many plans for us," they whispered, almost mumbled the words. "What did I do wrong, why are you doing this to me...?"
The villain rolled their eyes.
"Like I said, it didn't mean that much to me. They're attractive. They showed up at my work. We fucked on the desk and started to meet regularly." A lot of lies. Technically, they had been flirting with each other for the last year. "Work" meant their usual nightly activities. The thing with the desk was true, though.
The civilian turned around, eyes bloodshot.
"Did they force you? Because they're the hero?" The villain pursed their lips. Interesting. It was probably pretty easy to turn themselves into a victim in this situation (the civilian was by no means rational right now), but they had already admitted that they wanted to meet the hero in the future, so keeping up with that lie was going to be exhausting.
"No," the villain said. "Their ass just looked great that night."
"I don't understand, I thought you loved me?! We've been together for three years..." The civilian wiped away their tears but new tears followed and followed.
"...I like your company, yes."
"That's it?"
Once again, the villain cocked their head, staring at the civilian.
"Come on. A hero. The hero. Who can say no to that? It's a sexual thing. Has absolutely nothing to do with you. You're great." They shrugged. "Stay here. Get some sleep. We can talk about the rest tomorrow."
The civilian stood there, didn't dare to move.
"My love, you must be exhausted."
The civilian took in a deep breath. They nodded.
"There we go," the villain said softly. "You look lovely right now, by the way."
It wasn't that the villain liked being cruel - they just couldn't help it.

at the sound of the school bell ringing you let out a relieved sigh, finally able to leave the place everyone thought was hell on earth. quickly packing up your chemistry textbook and pencil case, you shoved it in your bag, already standing up and walking away from the desk.
you rushed out the classroom, barely hearing ms. park’s voice over the cluster of her students hurried footsteps, all trying to make their escape. the walk to your locker was short, feeling lucky that the hallway wasn’t nearly as packed as you expected it be considering it was now the end of the school day.
when you reached your locker, it didn’t take long until another presence was beside you. with your peripheral vision, you see that it was minjeong.
“hey,” she greeted you. minjeong blew up a piece of her blonde hair, the bangs almost covering her eyes. “do you wanna come over after the gig later? i got new a lego set for us.”
she rocked back and forth on her heels, the excitement clear on her face.
you and minjeong were similar in many ways. both of you were more on the quieter side, preferring to observe rather than interact with others. you both took your studies seriously, being top of your class. you also enjoyed the act of building lego’s together, bonding over it after she’d brought it up one day after band practice. and, you were both what your girlfriends described as ‘a loser in a hot body.’ you didn’t understand what it meant, but lara claimed that’s what you were so you didn’t question it.
“can’t.” you replied, shutting the locker door. “it’s date night with lara, and we’re going out after.”
minjeong pouted at not being able to hang out with you. building lego’s together was her favorite pastime between sleep, studying, band practice and hanging out with her girlfriend.
you flicked her forehead at the sight of her lips jutted out. “stop that, jimin may find it cute but i don’t.”
“ouch!” she yelled, rubbing at the now sore part on her forehead. “you’re so mean.”
you snorted, “and you’re so weak.”
minjeong scoffed at your words as you began to walk towards the double doors of the school, her hand tugging on the sleeve of the brown and white flannel you wore.
“we can’t all be jacked like you, ass.” she complained, moving to sling her arm over your shoulder.
“you can’t even see it!”
“that’s the problem.” minjeong huffed, raising her arm in the air. “you see this? these noodle arms look exactly like yours, except mine doesn’t bulge out when i flex.”
you had a bit of a sleeper build, the muscles only showing when there was tension. minjeong made a grunt, bending her arm as if she was flexing in order to add to her point. you laughed at her, shoving her arm down.
“whatever.” you shook your head at her, leading the two of you towards your car.
when you reached the parking lot, minjeong pulled her arm off you and got in the back seat once you’d unlocked it, leaving the door open for any conversation that came up. leaning against the gray vehicle, you pulled out your phone, shooting lara a text that said you were waiting outside for her.
the redhead spotted you as soon as she walked out the double doors, saying a goodbye to her friends and reminding them of what time you’d be playing tonight.
she approached you with a coy smile, looking you up and down. “well, you look absolutely delicious right now.”
the possessive streak ran through her body, realizing that everyone at school could also see how good you looked.
a blush appeared on your cheeks as she snaked her arms up your neck and locked her fingers together. “hi baby.” you mumbled, pressing a sweet kiss to her lips.
minjeong couldn’t help the cackle that escaped her when she saw your bashful state. pulling away from your girlfriend, you scowled at her.
“i don’t know why you’re laughing, i’ve seen you gay panic way worse around jimin.” you shot back, while minjeong flipped you off.
lara giggled at the interaction, placing a kiss on your neck and walked around to the passenger side. you both got in the car and the drive to minjeong’s place began. you’d be taking her home first before making your way to your place with lara.
after dropping minjeong and starting the route to go home, you glanced to look at the indian girl, who busied herself with looking through stories on instagram. you placed a hand on her thigh, tapping twice to gain her attention.
“are you sure you wanna come with me? the girls and i have to be there an hour before.” you asked, double checking if it was still alright with her.
“yes, i’m sure.” she looked up, locking her phone and lifted her arm to place it behind your head, nails softly scratching the lower part of it. “i want to be there for you.”
lara was an extremely supportive girlfriend, which you were grateful for. even back when you were just friends she gave you her full support, coming to a few band practices and going to all your shows. it was one of the reasons you fell in love with her, among many others.
“okay.” you said quietly, sending her a grateful smile and continued the drive home.
Tumblr media
“and now, introducing fallen angel!”
the loud cheers of the crowd had your adrenaline rushing as you stepped out onto the stage. you walked over to your positioned spot, eyes searching for lara in the dimly lit place. finally catching her gaze, she waved and blew you a kiss, your smile so wide it hurt your cheeks.
“woo!” the scream came from daniela, who sat to the left of lara at the round table.
yunjin chuckled as the clapping and cheering died down. she reached up to hold the mic, her raspy voice echoing through the speakers.
“hello, we are fallen angel, and we’ll be doing a cover of about a girl by nirvana.”
the crowd erupted in shouts once again, a few loud whistles here and there. when everyone settled down, yunjin did the count down in her head, then began strumming her guitar. she and minji were on vocals, with you playing the bass and minjeong on drums.
the crowd was hyped as the song played, all four of you feeding off of their energy. you smiled when you caught lara staring, feeling your heart hammer in your chest against your ribcage. you weren’t sure made you more nervous, playing in front of all these people, or the look your girlfriend was giving you at that moment.
lara sang along to the lyrics, her upper body moving with the beat as she turned to face daniela, screaming along with her. her confidence in you swirled around in her chest. she was so unbelievably proud.
as the song began to end, she told the kats’ she’d be back soon, getting up from her seat and swerved through the people. minji thanked the crowd for their support, a couple more cheers being let out. their loud noises were still ringing in your eyes when the four of you walked to the side of the stage that was hidden from everyone.
as soon as you saw lara, you carefully placed down the bass and hugged her tightly, pressing her body against yours.
“you did so well, baby!” she rubbed your back as a sign of support. her mouth was by the shell of your ear, breath tickling you.
“thank you, my darling.” you mumbled into her hair, closing your eyes for a second as you basked in the comfort she brought. “i loved seeing you out there.”
lara leaned back, your arms still wrapped around your torso, cupping your cheeks. she smiled brightly, her pearly white teeth on display.
“and i will be at every show until the end.” she whispered, leaning in until you felt her lips on hers.
the indian kissed you with passion, adrenaline now coursing through her veins as well. her lips were soft like always, the lipgloss making them sweetly sticky, but you were used to it at this point. your hands gripped her, squeezing gently. she broke the kiss, her smile even wider than before and she pecked your lips a couple more times before pulling away completely.
“ugh, you guys make me sick.” minji commented, taking a sip of water from her water bottle.
minjeong hummed in agreement, sitting on a chair that was off to the side, her legs stretched out. yunjin, who was busy packing her guitar in its case, turned to face the rest of the group.
“tell me about.” she quipped, tucking her dark blue hair behind her ear.
lara turned around in your arms, her smile now turning into one of amusement. she raised her up arm up until her hand reached your neck, hanging it loosely as she gripped the back.
“sorry, which one of us has a girlfriend again?” you asked rhetorically, knowing that yunjin still had yet to make a move on her crush.
she grumbled under her breath, harshly zipping the guitar case closed. yunjin walked off after that, stomping her feet on her way out. you snickered at her antics, always taking the opportunity to tease her about her single status, even though you knew without lara you would probably still be in the same situation as yunjin.
minji pulled a jacket over her shoulders, ready to leave as well. “i still don’t get how you two happened.”
“me neither.” you said, looking down at lara with an adoring gaze. she could easily see the love in your eyes, and it made her feel warm all over. “but i’m lucky to have her.”
the redhead felt her heartbeat stutter at your words, her own eyes shinning with deep affection for you.
“mh, you’re all mine.” she told you, her voice low. she kissed you once again, before stepping away from you, her hand falling from behind your neck. your arms unwrapped around her, intertwining your fingers together once she turned around to face you again.
“let me pack up real quick and then we can go, okay?”
she nodded, giving your hands a squeeze before walked away. your hands lingered together, outstretched until she was out of your reach.
you picked up the bass that was leaning against the wall and placed it in its case, zipping it up and slinging it over your shoulder. bidding a goodbye to the two other girls, you looked for lara in the mass amount of people. spotting her with her group of friends, you wandered over to her. before you could reach her though, a girl stepped in front of you, blocking the sight of your girlfriend.
“you were really good out there.” she grinned, the corner of her mouth curving upwards.
“uh, thanks.” you told her, accepting the compliment with gratitude.
her eyes trailed down your body, the black and red jersey you wore hanging baggy on you. the girl ran a hand through her hair, ruffling it and tilted her head to the side. she thought you looked unbelievably hot.
“i’m haewon,” she introduced herself, hand outstretched for you to shake. you took it gently, letting go after a second. “it’s nice to meet you.”
“nice to meet you too, haewon. my name is yn.”
she chuckled at your words, her voice dropping an octave. “oh, i know. i’ve seen you play before, one of my friends knows you from your school.”
haewon trailed a finger down your chest, but you didn’t pay any mind to it. you glanced over her shoulder, trying to catch a glimpse of lara but the voice of haewon gained you attention.
“tell me, yn, have you ever written a song about someone before?” she questioned, her eyes quickly glossing over your lips.
“a couple, but i’m not sure if they’re good enough.” you told her honestly, holding onto the strap of the black case.
her hand dropped, and she stepped closer. you didn’t think anything of it, being completely oblivious to the tone of her voice.
“sounds like you don’t have the right motivation.” she leaned up, looking into your eyes. “if you want, i could be your muse.”
she was flirting with you, but you didn’t know that.
the oblivious look on you face made this even more fun for her. you were like an untrained puppy, being clueless to her intentions with you.
as you were about to respond, saying you already had one, lara came into view from behind haewon, her eyes sharp and filled with a fiery twinkle.
she’d noticed the shorter girl leaning closer from where she was with the girls, not even letting sophia finish her sentence before she was stalking over towards you. her jaw was clenched, feeling her body light up with jealousy and the territorial thoughts began to spiral.
“there’s my girl.”
she wrapped an arm around you waist, gripping tightly. yours immediately went over her shoulders, smiling down at her with a lovesick look. haewon was forgotten about in your mind, all your focus on the girl under your arm. lara’s mind, however, was screaming with foul words that she wanted to spit out at the dark haired girl.
she wanted to make her crumble, because who was she to flirt with you?
“oh hey,” you beamed, and lara tried not to rip a whole through your jersey with her nails when you gestured to the girl in front of you. “this is haewon, she’s a fan of the band.”
haewon fixed her stare on lara, eyeing her up and down. she gave a sickly sweet smile, waving.
the indian didn’t bother with politeness, a fake smile taking place on her lips. in a demanding tone, she barked at her. “back off.”
her fingers dug into the jersey, strongly pressing them against your side. you furrowed your eyebrows at her behavior, confused on why she was acting like. haewon was nice, thinking that she didn’t deserve the crude treatment.
“woah, lara,” you shot her a look, but she didn’t take her eyes off haewon, glaring at her. “i’m sorry, uh— again, it was nice meeting you.”
haewon didn’t give your girlfriend the satisfaction off backing down, shamelessly looking you over while lara tried to control her temper.
“likewise. i’ll see you around, yn.” haewon said, turning away from the two of you.
hearing your name falling from her lips, lara could feel her sanity slipping away. she was so close to tackling haewon, but the strong hold you had on her weighed her down. once the other girl disappeared into the crowd, you looked at lara with genuine confusion.
“what was that?”
she faced you, taking her arm away from your torso, and crossed her arms. “she was being way too friendly with you.”
“huh? but she was only talking to me.” you stated, thinking over the interaction in your head. your words caused lara to scoff.
god, lara hated how oblivious you were sometimes.
“i saw it, she touched you. leaning in close to you like she was about to kiss you.” her voice shook, the image of haewon’s finger on your chest burned into her mind. it only fueled her rage more, wanting to walk over to the girl and tell her off. “i’m the only person who gets to do that.”
now realizing how lara was feeling and the reason behind her behavior, you sighed. “baby—”
she cut you off with a light shove. it wasn’t forceful, but it was enough to have you stumble back, falling onto a chair that was placed at the bar, the case of the bass slid off your shoulder, it now being beside and you slipped the strap off completely.
the chair at the bar was one of those high stools, which made it easy for lara to step in between your legs as you widened them to make space for her.
the look in her eyes made you fearful, not that you were scared of her, more so of what she could do when she was like this. it definitely wasn’t the first time she’d been so possessive with you.
“listen very closely to me…” she started, her hand gripping your chin harshly. the many rings on her fingers were cold against your skin as you craned your neck upwards.
lara’s eyes were filled with a dark look, her jealousy getting the best of her.
“i don’t care what she said to you. you are not to talk to her again, you hear me?” you nodded at her words, the grip she had on you tightening.
despite lara being aware of your faithfulness, you still felt as if you had to reassure her. “you know i only have eyes for you.”
she chuckled. “i know that, but other people don’t. and i fucking hate to see them trying to take what’s mine.”
there was no denying how hot she looked right now, but you didn’t voice your thoughts as to not wanting to upset her further.
you brought her closer by the waist, squeezing them to let her know you understood. lara peered over at you, leaning down until she captured your lips in a rough kiss. her tongue danced over your lower lip, wanting access to your warm cavern. her tongue flicked over yours, all around the inside of your mouth. her hand moved away from your chin, up your jaw and behind your ear until both hands were in your hair where she tugged cruelly. lara used them to pull you away from her, smirking devilishly at your flushed state.
you were breathless, feeling lightheaded from the angry kiss. your heart was beating rapidly, body temperature rising. the place suddenly felt hot, and the jersey wasn’t helping either.
lara ran her thumb over your bottom lip, the color red and bruised.
“let that be a reminder of who you belong to.”

Omg I’m so sorry for leaving you hanging ;-; I can only offer the excuse of crippling school projects, but I’m back!
Dr. Stone Spoilers for most of the story
Okay so your point about him being a good leader actually opened up a can of worms in my brain. This is def kind of off topic? But I think it’s interesting so I want to write it down for my own sanity.
For a while know I’ve been coining Senkuu as a bad leader, or at least not ideal for personal writing purposes, but your comment made me rethink it. Looking at things with a fresh start, I realized Senkuu is a good leader, but not in the way I was originally imagining. (Doing my best to keep it as canon as possible) Senkuu 1. Cares deeply about people, not just his own 2. Is very strategic and thinks of the future 3. Does not want power. These 3 aspects make him a good leader, especially in the setting of Dr. Stone.
To use an analogy, He would be a very good science club leader, which is kind of what he is. He is dedicated to the craft, and can manage a small group of people with similar goals, and rather than excluding others, he encourages and fights for them to join his club of nerds.
However!
For the first part of Dr. Stone, that works fine. It’s just the Kingdom of Science and the Empire of Might. It’s like 140 people, who although need some coaxing, can work together. But once America hits and they have Zenos people how have very different ideas, and all sorts of other civilizations across the globe… people are going to have conflicting ideas. There’s always going to be Tsukasas, misguided people, and Hyogas and Homuras, people who don’t mean well and try to shape the world in their making. This is where I believe Senkuu is no longer the best choice, as I don’t think he could handle managing and keeping peace between all of these people, in addition to perusing and steam heading science projects. Obviously there’s people to help him do these things, but it’s a lot.
Many people instead make Ryusui the main leader, which is not a bad decision. He’s used to leadership and thrives in positions of power, and cares about the people around him, even if they don’t like him(most of this comes from his confidence/arrogance, but still). He is great at planning and managing people, and is decent at working with people who have different views than him. However he doesn’t really understand the differences between what people say/think they want, and what they need, and he could make bad decisions based on that misconception. In addition, Ryusui is pretty disconnected from the people around him as he had a very different upbringing, and can’t always relate to people. This makes him a caring leader, but unable to properly act this way.
Both he and Senkuu are decent leaders on their own, but still not great. In conclusion, I say the best solution is to have the 5 generals, so some other council, in charge. They balance each other’s faults, this sharing of power relieves the pressure of leading the entirety of humanity from 1 person’s shoulders.
Main tangent over lol.
I def agree about Senkuu trying to save everybody, including Tsukasa, with all of the stuff happening at the beginning of Treasure Island Arc being a lot to juggle. This means to me that his decision to give Hyoga and Homura to the “authorities”/legal system is weak evidence for him being lawful.
I feel like we’re running this thread dry, so I pose another question: How do you feel about the ending of the manga, and how would you change it? I have some strong thoughts about those last few arcs lol.

title: KISSIN' UNDER THE MISTLETOE!
Tumblr media
summary: two attempts mualani made to get you guys to kiss, and one that he made himself. pairings: kinich x gn!reader. tw: none. notes: ahh this took longer than expected! also i made it gn i hope that's okay! <.3
“...Everything is going according to plan.”
Mualani smirked schemingly to herself. It was Christmas time, the most festive time of the year, where every year, a great Christmas party is hosted in Natlan. This year, Mualani took it upon herself to host the big Christmas party.
It was very grand too, what with the great Christmas tree standing in the corner, oh so beautifully decorated with baubles, holly and lights, not to mention the shiny star on top. A diverse range of presents of different shapes and colors overflowed on the floor underneath, labelled with names of guests arriving today. How much fun it would be to open them! The smell of hot chocolate wafted through the air, and one couldn’t help but contemplate how much time Mualani must have spent to plan this dinner, and one couldn’t help but appreciate it all.
But for Mualani, besides all the festivities and planning, this Christmas, she had a mission. A personal goal, one could say.
To get you and Kinich to kiss under a mistletoe.
The idea came about back in November. While at a weekly hangout with your best friends, Mualani was also there, and somehow the topic of crushes came up, and after being peer pressured into saying the name of the person you liked you slipped up and admitted to having a crush on Kinich… to which, honestly? Mualani was absolutely flabbergasted.
But the more she thought about it, the more it made sense. Kinich had always been more open with you, if at all, and, thinking about it further, Mualani realized that as she was the common friend between the two of you, perhaps she could play cupid. Since then, along with being occupied with the dinner planning, she was also planning a perfect moment for the two of you to be caught by ‘chance’ under the mistletoe (that she would hang over you), having to kiss and the lot.
Although, you could have refused a kiss if you were feeling shy… but Mualani brushed this thought off quickly; there was no way she was going to let Christmas pass and not have you and Kinich officially dating. No way!
By this point, near enough all the guests had poured in, packing the place up with hearty laughter, Christmas carols and so on. Mualani looked to the left; Kachina was receiving presents from Chasca. Behind them stood Xilonen, who had arrived a couple hours earlier to help Mualani out with the decorations and preparations. Looking to the right, Citlali and Ororon were only arriving now. Then, behind those two, Mualani spotted Kinich entering with a fairly small gift in hand, Ajaw groaning something in his ear and Kinich refused to listen.
Then? Mualani caught Kinich staring at you from his place near the entrance. She giggled to herself, and couldn’t help but imagine how the two would look if you ever ended up together.
Next thing she knew, Kinich had made his way towards herself.
“Here.” Kinich didn’t smile, but Mualani could feel the warmth behind his unfazed and cold demeanor. “Merry Christmas, Mualani.”
Mualani gave Kinich a good-natured grin, touched, and then gave him a warm hug back. “D’aww, thanks Kinich! I left your presents under the tree, so make sure you check ‘em out later, okay?” When she pulled away, Kinich nodded and the two engaged in a short conversation before leaving to meet his other friends.
“Oh yeah, and Merry Christmas!!” Mualani called out from behind him, trying her absolute best to hide the blatant smirk on her face. Now that the two people she was trying to get to kiss under the mistletoe were here, Mulani’s plan began.
Attempt 1.
Whistling to herself in an attempt to look unsuspicious, Mualani crept closely towards the fireplace, hiding a mistletoe behind her. She’d noticed that both you and Kinich frequented the fireplace, and so she discreetly placed a mistletoe in the most perfect spot, although once placed Mualani did think that some other people might get their chance to kiss instead, considering how much of a common palace it was to be seen in.
Except, at the current moment, right after Mualani placed the mistletoe, you were crouched down and warming your hands in front of the fireplace. You didn’t notice  Mualani sneakily placing the mistletoe just earlier… and by chance, Kinich was walking towards the fireplace.
Stifling a mischievous laugh, Mualani snuck away from the scene, hiding from the two of you, and watched expectantly.
She didn’t know the reason why Kinich was coming towards you, but he seemingly came there for you. However…
Just before he could tap your shoulder, just before it was about to happen, the moment left as soon as it came.
“Heyy, Kinich! I didn’t think you were coming, come on, let’s go have some fun…!” Some idiot guest grabbed his shoulder, before dragging him to the snack table to get some snacks.
Mualani’s anticipating grin wiped off completely, and, huffing and making a mental note to ban this person from the guest list next time (kidding she’s too sweet to do that), she understood that she needed to get creative. She had to try harder. Maybe she should get more people involved. Yes… of course, another scheme was forming in her mind.
Attempt 2.
After her first failed attempt, Mualani decided it would be best to add someone into her plot, so she went ahead and told Kachina about her plans, and of course, your secret crush on Kinich.
“H-Huhhhh? (name) likes Kinich–” Kachina’s ears turned red when she thought about this new revelation; she was equally as shocked about this as Mualani had been a few weeks ago, and Mualani had decided to enlist her help!
“Shh! Yep, I know! I was extremely surprised too! Kachina, would you mind helping me out?” Mualani whispered. “The plan is simple. You’re going to place the mistletoe on the doorway between there,” Mualani pointed towards the hallway. “And I’ll make the two of them go over there before anyone takes their chance.” she giggled.
“Mm, but Mualani? What if they don’t notice the mistletoe?” Kachina remarked. Mualani tapped her chin in thought, but when she considered this, she had to admit it was a good point. Mualani would have to somehow persuade the two of you to go to a specific place and on top of that, notice the mistletoe.
“I’m sure they’ll see it. You can’t miss it! You just do what I asked, ‘kay?” Kachina nodded, taking the mistletoe from Mualani’s hands and going over there.
“Okay! Now to convince them to go over there… hm…”
After she was able to convince both you and Kinich separately that someone wanted to meet you both, Mualani just had to watch. More watching, of course… This was getting boring now, what with all the suspense, but it would be worth it if you two kissed this evening!
You were already waiting there, having noticed the mistletoe  hanging on the door. Your cheeks turned warm as the implication settled into your mind. Maybe said person looking for you wanted to… kiss you?
If that was true, then you weren’t too sure you’d want that. After all, your heart belonged to Kinich. Your mind didn’t immediately think that it’d be Kinich, not that it was, but you didn’t want to stick around.
So, without another second thought you walked off and joined Xilonen for some Christmas karaoke. Oh boy, Xilonen can sing.
And of course, the person who “wanted to meet you” was Kinich. Yes, Mualani told him the exact same thing, that somebody wanted to meet him for something over there. But Kinich did take his time, and so when he did decide to get this over with, he saw you leaving the exact same place. Coming over there, he too noticed the mistletoe hanging on the door, which, now that Mualani thinks, only an idiot could not have noticed it.
His heart kind of sank when he realized that if it was you who wanted to see him… maybe… you wanted to kiss him? But… chickened out last second and left. Yeah, that could be the only reason why. At least in his eyes.
Now, something only he knew at the time was that he had a soft spot for you. He’d never felt like this for anyone, in fact; when the two of you started talking he swore he was getting ill… because what was with the butterflies in his stomach all of a sudden? The desire to seek you out? Not that Kinich could accept the truth, but he was in love with you too.
Mualani on the other side of the room had watched the whole thing, you leaving, Kinich’s apparent sadness and then him leaving himself. The way she groans out of helplessness is almost comedic, but now the party's almost over. Luck had not been on her side today at all, huh?
Shoulders slumped forward slightly, head hung down… Mualani reflected over today. It had been fun and all, but… she couldn’t get you guys to kiss. The one thing she’d wished for this Christmas! Darn…
The party being over, Mualani and some of her friends who had decided to stay were cleaning up. Kinich would have left… probably? She didn’t know. But you, as the sweetheart you were, decided to help clean up, and it’d been a few minutes since she sent you to go get some cleaning supplies from the cupboard upstairs… Why were you taking so long?
Well, the answer to the question she’d asked in her head came quickly when she was about to enter the room and she froze right outside.
Kinich was dangling a mistletoe… over you.
Suppressing a gasp of surprise, Mualani watched on. Kinich was holding a mistletoe with one hand and his other hand had found its way to your waist, pulling you in.
Then you let out a soft gasp, because no way this was happening. Did Mualani have a hand in this? But little did you know, for all those failed attempts Mualani made hours earlier to get you both to kiss under the mistletoe, this was one attempt that Kinich was making himself.
“Are you the person Mualani told me that wanted to see me?” At your confusion, Kinich’s brows furrow. “I noticed you were running away from there before, so-”
“What? Mualani told me someone was going to meet me… oh.” Now it made sense. Mualani winced as you two came to the conclusion that Mualani was trying to do something here. Not that you two minded it.
“I see… well, now that we’re here… may I?”
Nodding shyly, you were starting to get nervous. However, before you could do anything else, Kinich leaned in, brushing his lips against yours. You relaxed quickly and your fingers slid down to the side of his face.
Mualani couldn’t help the red that decorated her cheek as she watched from afar… but… at least, her mission this Christmas had now been completed. Oh, Archons, this is too cute to watch.

Warning!! This post may contain spoilers for those who haven't played Veilguard yet! This turned out a lot longer than I thought, but I'm discussing the theory that Rook is a spirit.
I know that there are issues with the writing and any theory is not created to make those issues get swept under the rug. This theory is meant to be fun, and I would like to talk about it.
I'm thinking about the "Rook is a spirit" theory I saw on twitter/x. This theory often rotates in my head often, and I think that it's so interesting.
Like, listen. I understand that narratively it would be complicated to insert into what we know is Dragon Age Veilguard. Someone brought up the fact that it would be a strange thing because wouldn't Emmrich know that Rook is a spirit the way that he knows Lucanis has Spite?
But the theory that cadhalash paints for us is the fact that Varric was for Rook what the Rook is for the companions.
"Help them with their personal problems and talk to them about their feelings, but never ask Rook how they're doing. Or if they need anything. In codex memos we learn the companions have potlucks and book clubs but Rook is not invited. We learn at the end that Varric wasn't really there... What if Rook wasn't either? There's tons of chat about this idea now with other examples of Rook being compared to a spirit in the game. Very interesting and fun!" -cadhalash
There could be the very huge chance that Emmrich would recognize Rook as a spirit, but what about a spirit made flesh?
Think about Cole's banter with Blackwall, for example:
Blackwall: How does a spirit become flesh anyway?
Cole: I don't know. How does a Warden become Grey?
It may seem like a reach, but to me, it makes sense. Cole chose to become human because that was the shape that would help, which he says in a banter with Varric.
Varric: So, Kid, why human?
Cole: It was the shape that would help.
Varric: Huh. Most people don't pick a shape. I guess I was hoping for something deeper with that question.
Cole: It had to be him. But harmless. The him he wanted that wouldn't hurt.
Varric: Well that's... deeper. I think.
You may be thinking, "Hey, Atlas. That might be a little reaching, don't you think?"
Well, yes. Applauding the people that caught onto Solas in the Dragon Age Fandom years and years ago now because you all were on the nose about him being a worm (spirit). But considering what we know from Dragon Age as a whole, it could be possible that Rook is too a spirit of a different kind.
We know that Emmrich can sense Spite. We know that Emmrich can talk directly to Spite. But what if Rook was more like Cole? Would Emmrich's ability to speak to spirits or sense them so close apply?
I would say, that depends on the type of Spirit that Rook would be, right? This has a lot of wiggle room for what you think your Rook would be as a spirit?
From the Wiki:
Spirits lack imagination and creativity; everything they make is based off something made by mortals. Whether benevolent or malevolent, most spirits cannot help but mine a Fade visitor's mind for their thoughts and memories. They then mimic the pieces of life they see by shaping the Fade into various realms that cater to the unconscious desires of the living, providing experiences to the sleeping that become their "dreams."
And the Spirits listed:
Command, Compassion (Cole), Courage, Curiosity (Manfred), Duty, Faith (Wynne), Honor, Hope, Justice(Anders), Learning, Love, Perseverance, Purpose, Valor, Wisdom (Solas).
(We know from Veilguard that Spite is referred to as a spirit of Determination/ mentioned in a data mine, Passion.)
For the sake of the theory, let's say that Emmrich would get an inkling. A prickling feeling even that he knows that there's a spirit near by and would chalk it up to being Manfred because he would know that, right? But then there's Spite. How big of an energy read does Emmrich get from Lucanis to immediately go, 'Yeah, you've got a tag along and I'm sorry it wasn't a willing possession'.
So, how would it get unnoticed by Emmrich, the resident Fade Expert?
Well... Reading further down said wiki page, we find this:
As Rhys puts it in a dialogue with Cole, "being important makes you real". (Asundered reference, I believe?)
Being important makes you real. Rook becomes the 'leader' when Varric gets hurt at the beginning of the game. For the entirety of the game, as Rook, you have to build a team to fight ancient elvhen gods. Rook has to be what Varric was, pulling people that Solas didn't know into trying to save the world from going to shit.
Rook was given a purpose. To save the world.
Regardless of how Rook is perceived, they are in charge. They are in a position that they didn't want, probably was expecting to go home after dealing with this Dread Wolf that they were recruited to stop, and now... They're given a role that would make them important. And as before being important makes you real.
Could Rook be something akin to Cole rather something like Spite or other spirits that we know in Veilguard?
Here's another thing: Solas.
Yes, we are talking about the egg. I'll try to keep this as coherent as possible. We know that Solas didn't want to come from the Fade to be a human (another discussion for another time). We learn that Solas was a spirit of Wisdom, whose Wisdom was twisted into a weapon and forced to do things that stripped Solas of what he wanted to keep for himself. To remain as Wisdom.
This makes it interesting if we add to the fact that Rook could choose to outsmart Solas. Because at that pivotal moment, Solas was Pride. On his pride, it was always the sword he would fall on.
Say what you will about the trick ending, but this is something that shouldn't be glossed over. Being outsmarted by Rook, Solas says, "I am a fool... Who has met his match."
Met his match. This also might be another case of reaching, but it's interesting phrasing from someone who tells clever half-truths and never quite lies. Being tricked by Rook out of pure wits alone. Something that he thought he succeeded in.
What does this have to do with spirits?
Solas, who was brought out of the Fade to take a body to join the elves in a fight against the Titans. Solas, who crafted the lyrium dagger to sunder the Titans from their dreams in hopes of stopping the war. Solas, who created the blight from the Titans' severed dreams. Solas, who started a rebellion against the ancient elvhen gods who abused their power.
Rook, who was brought onto a job to stop the Dread Wolf. Rook, who disrupted the ritual in hopes of stopping Solas. Rook, who started a double blight from freeing these ancient elvhen gods. Rook, who has to build a team to stop these ancient elven gods.
I would say, in spirit, Rook is a mirror of Solas. I'm not saying Rook is wise like Solas or anything like that. But there is something about Rook being Solas' mirror that could fold into Rook being a Spirit of Reflection.
This is just something that comes to mind. Rooks helps Taash discover their identity, helps Emmrich deal with his fear of mortality, helps Neve protect Dock Town, helps Bellara with Cyrian, helps Harding with the Titans, helps Davrin with the griffons, and helps Lucanis with Spite. (Generalized, all choice dependent.) These are reflections of the companions. These are reflections of the people that Rook had brought together to save the world.
It could easily be written off because we're not entirely sure how many spirits there are, but I digress.
Of course, that too would beg the question of how it would apply to all Rooks from all backgrounds?
Let's take a look at the ones that make me think.
Shadow Dragon Rook
The foundling Rook was adopted into a military family and joined the Shadow Dragons to fight from the shadows for change in Minrathous.
We learn in a dialogue with Tarquin that a Shadow Dragon Rook was found on a battlefield by the Mercar family.
Now with this little bit of dialogue, it makes me (personally) think back to what Solas says about him walking the Fade and seeing ancient battlefields where spirits reenact wars from the other side of the Veil. There could have been spirits that were there during this battle where SD Rook was found. (It also kinda reminds me of Loki being found by Odin and raised in Asgard. Don't come for me, I've only watched the movies.)
For the sake of theory, say that a spirit that would have looked over a SD Rook before they were found by the Mercars. Thinking about it, it reminds me of how Cole (the mage) was watched over by Compassion and then Compassion took a shape that would help.
A spirit (in Spite's case) can be drawn to a person, yes? As Determination, we know that Spite was drawn to Lucanis' determination to live or something of the like. (I will live to spite you, essentially.)
Mourn Watch Rook
Discovered by undead inside a Grand Necropolis tomb as an infant, Rook was raised by Mourn Watch necromancers, eventually joining the order.
Relating back to the Muttering Undead that is in a coffin on the path from Emmrich's recruitment:
Stumbling… The steps. Skeletons saw… Oh no choice. Had to be brave… Had to be brave… Too late to cry… Save the (girl, boy, baby) with the grave.
This is a little more open ended. We know nothing about Ingellvar beyond that. We don't know where they came from, only that they were found inside a tomb. It makes me scratch my head.
We know that it's a custom in Nevarra that a spirit could reanimate a skeleton, essentially, and bring some part of their consciousness from back across the Veil. We see that Manfred, when you choose to bring him back, is brought back from across the Veil and returns with magic.
Sure, it's not the same thing as building a body out of Titan's blood, but the idea that the spirits that became the Evanuris are the best of the physical and the Fade offers up to the idea that they were going to have magic anyway when they crossed the Veil. Only lyrium gave them more power than I think that they knew what to do with.
I make this point from the perspective that Mourn Watchers are typically necromancers. They are almost always close to places where the Veil is thin enough for a spirit to come across and possessing a body in a sense.
When it comes to the Muttering Undead, I don't know who that could have been or what they were doing in the Necropolis. But it's clear that they were determined to save Mourn Watch Rook, and they were the one that put Rook in the tomb.
This one makes me scratch my head because it's so broad and vague. For the theory that Rook is a spirit, this is the origin/background/faction that lends itself to the idea because in Nevarra they revere and respect their dead with the ability to raise the corpses to continue contributing to the Grand Necropolis. But we're talking about a wee baby Rook growing up in the Necropolis. Could it be possible that the saving of Rook is more spirit in a tomb?
The last things I would like to touch on.
Dialogue with Harding (her romance I believe?) :
Harding: I've seen spirits leave the Fade and become real people. (COLE!!!)
Rook: You think I could be a spirit in disguise?
Harding: It isn't malicous. They're just drawn to strong emotion. And then...one day, real people.
Rook: I think I'm really me, and I'm really here.
This is why I mentioned Cole earlier.
And the absence of Rook in the Veilguard mural is brought up in the theory as well. Rook's absence on the mural strikes me as odd. Because yes, the companions would be a main focus in the stories that would follow them. But what about Rook, the person who brought these vastly different people together and saved the world? Not there. Were they ever there?
Much to think about.

"I need your help," Y/N told her best friend, Rhea Ripley. She stumbled in the living room and sat on the couch.
"Oh, darling, I think you've helped yourself enough," Rhea commented and stared at her friend. She smelled like a walking bar.
"He still doesn't get I like him! Today, we hung out for lunch, and he was completely oblivious. I did everything to make it obvious,"
Y/N laid on the couch dramatically. She stared at the television screen. Rudolph the Red- Nose Reindeer was playing. Clarice had just told Rudolph she thought he was cute. Even reindeer had more game than she did.
Rhea feigned like she had no idea what she was talking about. "Who, darling?"
Y/N groaned and sat up. She stared at Mami and crossed her arms. "You know who! Damian. Maybe he just doesn't like me, and this is his way to reject me?"
"I don't think so. Men are just sometimes very oblivious," Rhea answered truthfully. "Did you try asking him out?"
"I don't want him to reject me," she answered barely above a whisper. The reality that Damian could end their friendship kept her up at night. They had been friends for so long.
"I wouldn't,"
Y/N's eyes widened at Rhea. Behind her stood the one and only Damian Priest. The very man that had her heart in the palm of his hand. How long had he been here? Did Rhea know. Her questions would be answered shortly.
"You'll thank me later," Rhea told her and scurried away from the living room.
"I... I meant another Damian," Y/N lied. She couldn't believe her best friend would do this. Sure, she was friends with Damian longer, but what ever happened to girl code?
"Really? After lunch with me today you ate with another Damian?" He asked.
"I was still hungry,"
Damian rolled his eyes and sat on the couch next to her. He didn't look at her. Her heart sank at the thought of being rejected. She couldn't believe Rhea set her up like this. The room was painfully quiet until he finally spoke.
"Well, I guess that is a shame cause I had a lunch date with a really cute girl today. She kept flirting with me, but I was too afraid to say anything. I went to my best friend to figure things out, and then you know what happened? That same cute girl came into my friend's house and gave me the courage to say what I've wanted to say for a while,"
Her breath hitched in her throat. "And what's that?"
"That she is the first thing I think about when I wake up and the last thing I think about at night. She brings out the absolute best in me, and I would be stupid to let her go,"
Tears sprung in Y/N's eyes. "Really?"
Damian cupped her chin in his hand. His thumb rubbed against her flesh softly. He leaned in and kissed her. Their eyes closed as they melted into their kiss. Finally, they pulled away.
"Really, really,"
They talked for the next thirty minutes. Their lips never strayed far from the others. Soft giggles filled the room as they talked about their newfound romance. They were on cloud nine. Nothing could bring them back down to Earth until a familiar Australian accent sounded from the other side of the house.
"I eventually want my living room back!"

YOUR L*ONISMS IN THE MALLEUS POST BYE 😭😭 I tend to try to avoid talking about him precisely bc I fear I'll sound like Leona too lmao. or bc I'm scared ppl will say "ah you only dislike him bc you like Leona"- when that's not the case at all (although I also share some of his views about the lizard) Similarly to you, I just don't get the hype- basically everything you say. my feelings for him fluctuate from "🙄 ok." to "you're okay? I guess?"
which is weird, bc I really like dragons and non-human characters learning about humans. but that's what makes it worse for me bc man all the talk about him made me want to rlly like him and then I saw him in canon and I was like uh... okay? kind of disappointed + a bit annoyed at some stuff. I do like how he talks about gargoyles or things he finds interesting tho— I'll praise you that much, Draconia.

Leona and Rollo is right about Malleus and he should speak his truth 😔
To reflect a little on my own character arc with Malleus, I felt very neutral about him from the prologue to about book 2ish. This was simply because I hadn't interacted with the guy yet so I held off on judging him prematurely. The brief encounter we actually had with Malleus in book 2 wasn't meaty enough for me to get a sense for his character, so I brushed him off.
I thought it was interesting that book 2's narrative invites comparisons between Leona and Malleus, with Leona being a parallel to Scar, Malleus being a parallel to Mufasa, and the world holding Malleus up as the "superior" king. Lilia states as much in 2-26: "Would that the lion king of the savanna could witness this absolute farce. No, if you ask me, the collar suits you far better than a crown ever could. You may bemoan the fact that you're not higher in line to be king. But with that sensitive ego of yours? That so quickly directs all your petty anger at your retainers... Well, the idea of you ever contending with a REAL king like our Malleus—is absolutely laughable. Even if you COULD defeat Malleus, so long as that's how you choose to conduct yourself? You would never be fit to rule!"
And at the time, yeah, Lilia's right because Leona is very much losing his grip on his emotions and acts irrationally in an attempt to triumph over Malleus. HOWEVER... The longer the main story went on, the more I found myself disagreeing with Lilia's judgment of Malleus and his character. Now, that doesn't mean that I think Leona was in the right for the actions he took in book 2 (they are still and always will be wrong). Rather, I think Lilia gave a somewhat biased take on Malleus and his preparedness for the throne. Many of the things Lilia accuses Leona of also ended up being very true of his own liege. Malleus has a sensitive ego (he has attempted to strike down peers and faceless, magicless NPCs on more than one occasion; ie Halloween events). Malleus has directed his anger at his retainers (as a child, he froze many servants; in book 7, he attacks Sebek and Silver for attempting to wake up their peers and tries to return Lilia to sleep against his wishes). Malleus has scarcely led anyone in anything. Leona and Malleus are far more similar to one another than either of them would like to admit, but Lilia is just assuming that Malleus will be a great leader anyway because of... what? Because of birthright and lineage? Yeah, no wonder why Leona is pissed and has a bone to pick with the lizard (attempt to harm Malleus aside).
Book 3 and onwards is what I started to develop my current dislike for Malleus. (And to be clear, he has good points too! I'm not saying that he has nothing going for him at all; however, this post is focusing on my own critiques of his character so that is what I will be speaking about.) I started to notice things that annoyed me on a personal level: how he lacks consideration of others' perspectives and actively violates their autonomy, how he never gets any repercussions for his actions, how he's aware of his power and status and yet fails to avoid lording it over others, how he has been given so many opportunities to learn and change as a person but refuses those opportunities, etc. And yes, I understand that he acts in these ways for particular reasons. I'm not saying that his behaviors don't make sense, I am only stating that these are behaviors that I personally don't find appealing. (For more extensive explanations of why I don't like Malleus, please see the FAQ section in my pinned post.) All of this in spite of how little of him we actually get to see and interact with, especially in the main story. It baffled me that he was undoubtably the most popular character in EN circles. There's so much chatter about Malleus Draconia, you can't really get away from it. People are legitimately shocked when you tell them you actively dislike Malleus or when they learn that he's not even a top contender for best boy in the JP fandom. The default is assuming that you do like Malleus, which ironically happens to be the same thing that Draconians (Malleus stans in-universe) do. It feels like there's sometimes an unspoken pressure to like the guy. I also started to notice peculiar behaviors (?) which, in a vacuum, aren't necessarily bad--I would just like to comment on them because I find it interesting. With Malleus being as popular of a character as he is, there's of course going to be a lot of online discussion about him, especially from his fans. Now, I don't know if it's only me noticing this, but I've frequently observed Malleus fans going out of their way to "wring as much content" out of the least Malleus-related content possible. For example, there may be a screenshot of some other character posted and then a fan would come in and make a comment like, "I wonder how Malleus would feel about this". A more concrete example would be from the more recent JP Lost in the Book with Nightmare Before Christmas event; in it, the event character takes the back of all the characters' hands and kisses them (including Yuu). Automatically posts that showed this kissing were inundated with comments about how "Malleus would be so angry about this", even though Malleus himself shows no such reaction. Similar comments dropped when Yuu is kidnapped in the event even though, again, Malleus shows no such anger about the incident. Halloween events such as this contain half the main NRC cast, yet I saw no fans of the other 10 characters claiming those characters reacting jealously. This occurs VERY often in regards to Malleus; even in events or scenes where he doesn't react or doesn't even appear, zealous fans will insert him into the situation or make the situation suddenly about him, whether it's in someone's own posts or on other people's posts.
I wonder if this is a result of Malleus being kept so mysterious for two full years...? Without much of his character to go off of, it left a huge negative space for fans to headcanon, project, and hyperfixate on what he is like or what he could be. And maybe now those behaviors persist in an effort to fill in that void because honestly Malleus isn't getting much screen time within book 7 either 💀
I believe this has contributed to the discrepancy (that this asker brought up) between how the English-speaking Twst fandom speaks about Malleus versus what Malleus is actually like and how he is portrayed in game. The fandom version of him is pretty much always hyped up or sensationalized (sometimes simply for his mere existence), similar to how his own fans in-universe might put him on a pedestal. But then you play the game for yourself and you're exposed to so little of him and what little you do see of him is much more... reserved, somber, and sometimes even petulant, depending on the situation.
Anyway, my point is that anyone that dislikes Malleus (or any other character) should be allowed to dislike him, regardless of what anyone else says or if you feel pressured into silence🤷‍♀️

Hi! I've been following you for ages for your great Solas takes and immaculate taste in sad men. I've been thinking about this because I have a Dragon Age Inquisitor who is an abomination, what do you think Solas would think about abominations/do you recall him ever talking about them? Both Anders/Justice and the more demonic unwilling variety.
Personally I would assume he'd be initially horrified because that might seem like a violation of consent for both parties, but after learning more about them he might grow more curious/respect actual unions a mage might have as an abomination. I am basically just workshopping an OC and hitting a wall and you're the local Solas sage, so... XO
Oh, that's so nice..
Solas is more chill with willing abominations than you might think. And he seems to know all about it already. In Jaws of Hakkon, in the quest called “In Exile” you meet a young mage named Sigrid Gulsdotten who had been willingly possessed by a friendly spirit in order to teach her magic. Which is what the Avvar do culturally to make mages safer.
Sigrid was getting old enough that it was time for her and the spirit to part ways, but she didn’t want to give it up because she didn’t want to lose the spirit as a friend/confidant. Solas has a surprising amount to say in Jaws of Hakkon in general about how the Avvar interact with and relate to spirits, and he talks a lot in this quest too. He is very gentle with her. Let me look up exactly what he says. When you find clues about the mage's failed ritual to part with her spirit, Solas says (a mage in your party always speaks here):
"Residual magic. Someone was casting a spell, and was interrupted. Or stopped."
"If a mage was performing a ritual to part with a spirit, she may have needed to replenish her strength."
Then later, when you talk to her, the conversation goes like this:
Sigrid: "I could not do it! I have no close companions in the hold! No kin! I cannot lose my only friend!"
Inquisitor: "You're friends with this… spirit?"
Sigrid: "It has taught me with patience and kindness since I was a child, frightened of the fire I could suddenly call down."
Solas: "A great comfort. But you are no longer a child."
Sigrid: "Some mages need the help of a god all their lives."
Solas: "Very well. Perhaps, however, ask yourself if it is help you need, or companionship."
Sigrid: "I do not wish to lose the one who loves me."
Here is a playthrough that has this dialogue:
youtube
At the end of the quest, if you recruit Sigrid for the Inquisition, Varric, Sera, Vivienne, Iron Bull and Cassandra have strong negative feelings about it, while Cole approves. Solas doesn't seem to approve or disapprove, as far as I can tell. He doesn't say anything, at least. When talking to the Shaman about this Avvar practice, you get this conversation:
Inquisitor: "You let spirits possess your mages on purpose?"
Shaman: "What better teacher than one woven from magic? The spirits in the hold have helped us in this way for hundreds of years. Once a mage masters their powers, their teacher departs, duty ended. Unless the mage is weak."
Inquisitor: "What happens to these "weak" mages?"
Shaman: "Their teachers stay with them and the other gods watch them both, so neither soul turns sick. If one does sicken, or the mage stands in risk of harming the hold… One day, they do not wake in their bed. It is very sad. It is what must be done."
Solas: "It is kinder than what happens in many mage Circles."
So Solas seems to understand the reality that abominations become corrupted more easily, and that it's probably best for abominations to separate willingly.
Solas offers to separate Lucanis and Spite, and says their forceful combination was "a crime against [them] both" so I can only assume that it's the willingness factor that he gets upset by, along with him always being upset at the thought of spirits becoming corrupted.

ㅤ╭ ⿻ ・ to the end of salvation
& maybe it is too easy to blame mortality on our capacity for love , the slow death that is putting your breath in another's body.
ଓ.° ・ sukuna. jujutsu kaisen. quote cr : ayumi hamasaki. safia elhillo. repost.
Tumblr media
𝐈. humans are much stronger beings than i thought
but what does sacrifice mean to a god? bloodshed is of little significance unless he is the reason behind it / unless there is sanguine dripping from his claws, flooding an already bloodied land of worship. sukuna thinks little of humanity, deems it unworthy of anything but cruelty and the act of ruin.
he sits on his throne, apathetic, and examines the beings in his shrine. how superficial this all is, another supposed act of celebration that does nothing to impress him. it is dangerous for a god to be bored, he thinks, and he smiles at the thought of spilling blood for such reasons.
but there is yet another sacrificial lamb that kneels before him. in the middle of a revered shrine, your body trembles at the feeling of one’s scrutinizing gaze. it watches, hovers over your figure.
you were granted a life never meant for living, and he would think you’d be so desperate, that you would be so pitiful ( and what a silly thought, really, because you are lucky enough to still be alive in his presence for this long ). but there is something in the way that you force yourself to look him straight in the eye, and there is an anger so present that he can feel his existence strengthen from it.
“are you worthy, little lamb?”
“isn’t that something you should have decided by now, king of curses?”
the air stills. a pause. your heart threatens to shatter beneath the aching of it all.
divinity laughs : an echo chamber of malice and unspoken beginnings and ends. a red string of fate that knows nothing else but the hollow of your ribs and a nearing tragedy.
𝐈𝐈. that which is two became one, then became two / it's nothing more than that.
you live your days with uncertainty, waiting on edge, and nothing comes. this, perhaps, is the cruelest trial you’ve come to face.
and you think he would hurt you, this renowned god that everyone cowers before ( but you were once the same, truly, and you would be a hypocrite to pass judgment on another’s fear ). but there is no harshness in your coexistence, no matter how hard you search for it. because you know of the tales that the children speak of in teasing tones, the tales the elders pass on in hopes that their youth will not become the next sacrifice.
if they asked you if the stories were true, you wouldn’t know how to answer. because there is a destruction in his existence somewhere in the markings of his body and there is violence in the way his claws threaten to tear apart the red strings, but there is something unidentifiable in the way he looks at you when the moon lights up the sky.
“why do you treat me this way?”
you whisper the words into the night, hoping that they will be heard and unheard. ( but you know that he is always listening, always attentive to you. how strange he is. )
“in what way?” a taunt. sukuna places his hand on your waist, marvels at the way you shake under his touch.
“you treat me like you are made of tenderness.” you ignore the fear that runs deep into your veins, force yourself to speak up in what may be an act of foolishness. “that doesn’t exist in you.”
your voice trembles. a smile tugs at his lips; he kisses you with utmost gentleness that you almost think you have been wrong this whole time.
you are waiting for the day he will kill you. it will come soon, it will, and you cannot tell which will be more agonizing: the waiting game or the killing itself.
𝐈𝐈𝐈. the path spreading out is too narrow ; i can no longer walk with you
to be divine is to live in bliss and devastation. immortality is a double edged sword, granting a lifetime of glory and pain. everything, at some point, comes to an end. even the red string unravels until it is no more, and you think you tried to forget that.
you do not think you are in love with the king of curses and that’s okay. that was never the intention. you were never meant to live this long, anyway. you thought you could face the truth, get yourself ready for the suffering meant to come.
you look in the water and all you see is sorrow and the approach of heartbreak. the tearing of the soul, the filling of blood in your mouth and the emptying of what remains of your spirit.
“why do you wait? lambs are not meant for survival.”
his fingers wrap around your throat, but they never squeeze. his lips press against yours for a brief moment, and he pulls away.
“careful,” sukuna warns, “gods are the only ones who determine life and death.”
“it will be soon.”
your reply comes out involuntarily and he senses desperation in it. are you tired of waiting? have you become weak, unable to tolerate the unknown?
he forces back his grin, lips on your neck, and speaks in such low tones that your knees almost threaten to give out.
“do you want it to be?”
he waits for an answer. it never comes.
𝐈𝐕. i've been in the darkness a little longer / but it's time to go
you have never seen sukuna hurt. a curse knows little of suffering and so much of pain. but when you thrive on the negatives of humanity, what is it that makes you vulnerable? what is it that thrashes so wildly in your being and makes it all so unbearable?
you have not lived your life in misery. not at his side. but time moves on, and so must both of you. one of you will pass into another life, and the other will remain stagnant in the world he rules.
you don’t feel much, not really. it feels numb, feels like the end, but it feels okay. maybe you are afraid, but your grip is too weak that you cannot even hang onto him. sukuna holds you closely, doesn’t allow you to see his face ( and even if you did, it wouldn’t be any different. and who are you to think that you were important to him, anyway? )
“let go.” he orders softly. “don’t be frightened.”
you laugh. he will miss the sound of it dearly.
“who are you talking to?”
he doesn’t know.
this time, he is the one who does not answer. you are dying in his arms and it is more peaceful than you expect. it is beautiful and merciful and all the things you thought it would not be.
( YOU ARE TIRED. )
“was i worthy?”
( IT IS TIME TO CLOSE YOUR EYES AND REST. )
the feeling of his lips against your temple, and a quiet murmur drowned out by a fleeting consciousness.
“you were worthy, little lamb.”
