The Adventures of Lee and Gracie - BONES AND ALL : part 1
The Adventures of Lee and Gracie - BONES AND ALL : part 1
Warnings and such: mentions of bl00d, !death, death of family member, alcohol/drunkenness ,illusions to caùùabilism...i think that's it for this part?
A/N: you can't tell me TimothĂŠe doesn't radiate this kind of chaotic energy 24/7! He was absolutely perfect for this movie! Thank you for coming to my TedTalk!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My mother was what she called an âeater,â because I guess calling her a cannibal was wrong. There was a difference, apparently, of which the latter she was not. You could have fooled me. Iâve known for a while, probably my whole life, but to me, that was normal. Normal for her anyway. I had never met another âeater,â at least not that I knew of, but would I know if I had anyway?Â
She never partook in the activity in the house, but more often than not she came home before she was ready to, covered in blood. Admittedly, it freaked me out to realize how quickly that stopped bothering meâŚbut of course, not as much as discovering what she was doing a few times a month. What bothered me the most is that she came home, cleaned herself up, and carried on with life as if nothing happened. As I got older, I became more wary of her, something that I think she picked up on all too quickly. It drove a wedge in our once perfect relationship, but I wouldnât consider it a loss.
The idea toyed in her head, for a while- she thought I was a âlate bloomerâ or that I just needed to âfind the feeling,â but whatever it was that caused her to be this way, it must not have been passed along to me. If thatâs how someone became an âeater.â It made me wonder where it all started, but then again, maybe I donât want to know. All I do know is that she left when I was 18, and I hadnât seen or heard from her since. My dad was long gone and I had no siblings. Maybe my dad knew, and maybe I wasnât even supposed to happenâŚoh well, no sense in dreading about it now. I had no complaints. No regrets.
I knew the signs of an eater, or at least the ones that made my mother stand out in a crowd, but I still wasnât sure if I would be able to pick one out of a line up unless they had blood all over their face. I resolved to just be by myself, to always watch my back and never put a lot of trust in anyone. It was all easy, really. I wasnât allowed to have friends as a child, understandably so, and because of that I was fine to be by myself. I didnât know any different.
As my 20th birthday approached, the body of a woman surfaced near the lake. It was a lot to take in, in a small town, but I knew. I knew that it was my mother, and I knew that it wasnât an animal who had found her body before some local fishermen. There was another eater, somewhere, and suddenly I didnât feel safe. What if they came after me? I am half my mother, eater or not. I packed a bag and left with a full tank of gas and all the money I had been saving for almost 6 years. I didnât dare look back.Â
That was almost a year ago now. My 21st birthday was at the end of the summer and I had already driven across the country and back once. I was stuck somewhere between not wanting to settle down somewhere, and being too afraid to. I had no family elsewhere, at least not that I knew of, so there wasnât anything grounding me to one specific spot. The life of a nomad was starting to grow on me! I found myself in Indiana, at the dumpiest âgrocery storeâ I had ever been in, which was saying a lot because Iâve seen some pretty deplorable places on my travels.Â
âWhat kind of store runs out of lunchables?!â
There was a very intoxicated man wandering the store, drinking a 6 pack of cheap beer that I can only assume he hadnât paid for. The store attendants didnât even bat an eyelash at him, apparently this was a regular thing. I was at the end of the aisle he had just strolled down, looking at the bare bone essentials that were strewed about the shelves.
âHey, Iâm talking to you, you dumb bitch-â
A woman with a small child had asked to get by him on her way to the checkout lines. I wasnât the only one watching him- a boy, about my age, had been following him around the store for a while now. I couldnât tell if they were together or not, but the younger one seemed highly irritated with the antics.
âHey!â He called, standing behind me. âYouâre out of control, buddy.â Okay, so maybe they arenât together.Â
âYou with the store or something?â
âNo, Iâm not with the store. But Iâm going to escort you out of it.â
âOh you are?âÂ
âWatch this,â the younger boy whispered as he stepped around me.Â
He had a shit eating grin plastered to his face, as if he was waiting for this moment. He turned to the drunk man, smiled at him and without an ounce of hesitation, headbutted him. Hard. I could hear it break his nose. Blood began to seep down his face before he realized what had happened. The drunk threw an otherwise poorly calculated swing, but missed by a mile or more.
âOutside, you fucker!â
âYou want to go outside? We can go outside! Letâs go outside!â
âWho the fuck do you think you are, you little asshole!â
âIs this how you spend your Saturdays? Harassing innocent people after you spend the morning jerking offâŚâ
Their voices trailed off as the door closed behind them. I watched them chase each other around the parking lot for a moment before stepping out of view and behind the store. That was the most excitement I had seen in a long time!Â
I made my purchases and used the microwave behind the counter to makeshift something for dinner. What I wouldnât give for a real kitchen! It was nearly dark when I finally left, and there was no sign of the two men from earlier. I could only hope they sorted out their differences and everyone left without incident.Â
I was crossing the parking lot to my truck when I noticed something someone, crawling out the window frame of an abandoned building a few yards away. It was the younger guy from earlier. His shirt was torn and he looked at me before doubling over. I couldnât tell what he was doing, but could hear the distinct crinkle of a plastic water bottle and as he approached, I could see it- blood! A lot of fucking blood. I knew instantly what he was; his face and chest was smeared the same way I had seen my motherâs many times before. Despite his best efforts to apparently clean himself, the evidence was everywhere. I didnât know rather to run or scream or-
âHeâs back there, if you want to..â He nodded back towards the building, walking past me without batting an eyelash in my direction. Maybe they only ateâ once? Do they get full? They have to, right?
âNo! No I donât- Iâm not aâŚNo!â He stopped and looked me up and down.Â
âCould have fooled me. You smell like one.â
âOne what?â I hesitated, trying to keep the distance between us.Â
âYou tell me. You seem to know.â
âIâm not.â
âSo youâve said.â
âWhat do you mean âI smell like one?ââ
âAn eater. Eaters can smell other eaters. Usually.â
âWell, youâre wrong. Iâm not aâŚa eater.âÂ
âOkay. Well, sorry.â He smiled, and I could see his blood stained teeth. Somehow, even in this moment, I wasnât phased. âIâm gonna justâŚIâm gonna go now.âÂ
There was something about himâŚsomething that I couldnât put a finger on, or take my eyes off of. He seemedâŚdifferent? I only had my mother to compare him to, but there was still something. I watched him circle the parking lot, staring at the keys in his hand. Whatever he was trying to find must not have belonged to him. Wait was he-
âYou canât just steal his truck!â I laughed nervously, watching him climb in and start digging around.Â
âWhat good is it to him now?â He turned the key over and tried to start it, groaning. âThereâs no gas in it anyway.âÂ
âIâm sorry I donât-â
âWill you drive me somewhere?â
âNo! I donât even know you!â
He jumped out of the truck, a piece of paper and a few dollars in his hand. He smiled, wiping his spare hand on his pant leg before extending it to me.
âSorry, Iâm Lee.â
âLee?â
âLee. No last name.â I looked at him for a minute, his smile never fading.
âGrace. Or Gracie.âÂ
âFirst and last?â He chuckled and whatever it was about him made me smile, even if I didnât want to. âDonât trust peopleâ I reminded myself.
âLook,â he continued. âYou could have convinced me you were an eater, like I said, you smell like one. And if youâre really not, hey that's cool too! But eaters donât eat eaters, so Iâll treat you like one if youâll just drive meâŚâ he looked at the paper and spun around in a small circle before pointing in some opposite direction. âIf youâll drive me like 15 minutes that way? Please?â
I tried to weigh my options, the risks I was taking by giving in, but there it was again, that thing that was different about him. Whatever it is, it was telling me to just give him the ride. I could leave him there and never have to see him again if the next 15 minutes gave me any inclination that Lee couldnât be trusted.Â
âOkay,â I sighed, pointing him towards my own truck a few spots over. âBut if you try to-â
âCross my heart I won't!â
We hopped in and he gave me directions. He was quiet, domestic reallyâŚnot something I would have expected from one of them. He just sat there, like nothing had happened. I couldnât help but eye him the whole way, and he definitely knew, but didnât say anything. It was almost a comforting silence, something I donât recall ever experiencing in my life before now.Â
Eventually, we made it. The house was dilapidated, not cared for in the slightest- it smelled of weed and alcohol from the driveway. A bachelor pad if I had ever seen one before. The lights were off, though I may have died of shock if anyone else was living there.Â
âThank you,â Lee smiled, hopping out of the car and coming over to my side. âUnless, I mean, do you want to come in?â He said it so calmly, like it was his own house!Â
âI ummâŚâÂ
âI promised I wouldnât bite, remember!â
That feeling returned, consuming my body. Itâs fine, just go with him. Something inside me was screaming, I didnât know if it was my brain, my heart, or my stomach, but none of them were arguing with whichever one was screaming. Maybe this is how I die! Only one way to find outâŚ
I sighed, hopping out of the truck and following him into the house. The inside was somehow worse than the outside- I didnât even think that was possible. Lee, however, seemed to be in love! He instantly started digging though the manâs collection of music, staring wildly at the raunchy posters on the wall.Â
Lee let out an excited noise when he pulled a record from the crate, throwing it on the player. The music blared horribly loud, causing both of us to jump out of our skins.
âFuck!â He yelled, turning it down quickly. The smile soon returned to his face and he began jumping around the room, singing and dancing erratically.
It was almost euphoric to watch. So I did- I just watched him. I watched him for a few minutes, my eyes following him as he jumped off the couch, landing in front of a very dirty mirror. He leaned in close, singing to his reflection until he caught sight of the state he was in. There was still blood smeared down his chin and throat, the rest was hidden behind his t-shirt. The smile dropped from his face and in its placeâŚembarrassment?
âIâm gonna go take a shower.â I nodded and watched as he disappeared down the hallway.Â
Last chance to leave.
No, I think Iâm going to stay.Â
Lee emerged a while later and asked if I wanted a turn in the bathroom. Again, this seemed so normal to him- he acted like this was his house. He must do this every time heâŚeats. A real shower sounded too inviting, no matter how gross the bathroom may be.Â
With the endless supply of hot water, Iâm not sure how long I was in there. A small part of me almost expected the boy to be gone when I was finished, but he wasnât. I followed the sound of the television and found him sitting in front of it, laughing along to whatever way playing, a cigarette in hand. Domestic.Â
I cleared my throat, not knowing what else to do.Â
âOh, hey!â He jumped up. âDo you want to watch something? I think thereâs a few more channels on hereâŚâ
âNo, that's okay. I might actually go to bedâŚif you donât mind?â
âNot at all! Take the bed, Iâll sleep out here.â He pointed towards the back of the house. âIt's just back thereâŚon the left.â
I felt like I was supposed to say something, to thank him, maybe? But whatever it was, I couldnât find it. I just looked at him, probably for too long. He began to rock back and forth on the balls of his heels, looking around the room and smiling awkwardly everytime his eyes met mine.Â
âGoodnight, Lee.â I finally mumbled, stifling a yawn.
âNight, Gracie!â I heard him plop back down on the floor as I headed towards the bedroom.
Weirdest. Day. Ever.
******
I hardly slept last night. Part of me was scared Iâd wake up to Lee standing over me, or that the guy whose house we were in was going to come back, or that a neighbor called the cops after seeing us come in or-
*knock* *knock*Â
âGracie, you awake?â
I sat up boltright. âYeah, itâs open.â
No, you idiot! Thatâs not what he asked!
Lee opened the door awkwardly and stuck an arm through the crack, offering me a cup of coffee. Domestic!
âIâm not sure how you take it, but your only option is black or Irish, but you know, thatâs still black.â I chuckled, opening the door further and taking the cup from him. His head was turned, not daring to look in the room.Â
âThank you.âÂ
âMhmm.âÂ
There was an awkward silence. Lee still hadn't turned around.Â
âCan I ask you something?â I finally found the courage to speak.
âShoot.â
âThis is normal for you, isnât it?âÂ
âWas that the question, or a statement?â
I groaned, walking back over to the bed. Lee hesitantly peered around the corner, not daring to enter the room any further.Â
âSorry,â He chuckled nervously, taking a sip of coffee. âBut yeah, I guess this is normal? Are you referring to the whole,â He made an exaggerated chewing motion, teeth clicking together audibly. âThing or?â
âThat. Yes. But I assumed that was normal for you. It was normal for my mother, anyway. But I was referring to the whole âmaking yourself at homeâ type of thing.â
âYour mother?!â I just looked at him, waiting for an answer to the second part of the question- the actual question. âUmm. I mean, everyoneâs got their own rules, I guess. I donât see any harm in staying a night or two. Itâs not like heâs going to need it.âÂ
We sat silently, sipping shitty coffee and stealing glances at each other. The comfortable silence settling over us once again.
âIf youâre not from around here, where are you from? And where are you going?â
âKentucky,â he smiled, looking like he was reminiscing. âGot family there, sort of...but Iâm not sure where Iâm goingâŚI donât ever really know. I justâŚgo. What about you?â
âIâm from New York-â
âHoly shit!â
âYeah. But thereâs nothing left there for me so Iâm making my way back across the country.â I shrugged, the idea didnât seem so crazy to me as it once did.Â
âIâm sorry, back?!â
âIâve been on the road for almost a year.âÂ
âThat sounds awesome! Youâll have to tell me about itâŚsometime.â The smile on his face faded slightly as he stared at the contents of the mug in his hand.
Is this where we were supposed to part ways? It didnât feel right to get back in the truck and leave him, but taking him with me? That sounded just as weird. Iâve never been conflicted over theâŚwellbeing? Of another person? Is that what this was called?Â
Hypothetically, I thought to myself. What would be the harm in asking him to come along? What was stopping me from dumping him on the side of the road somewhere if he pissed me off or tried to bite or whatever else could possibly happen. He wasnât tied to anywhere either, not really anyway. He had been doing things his way for who knows how long, clearly he could take care of himself. He seemed to be doing a better job at it than me, actually. And the odds of ever running into him again? There was something about him that wasnâtâŚscary. Maybe it was the pink hair!Â
âIâll tell you.â I smiled, finishing the coffee. âYou drive. Iâll talk.âÂ
âWhat?â
âUnless you have other plans-â
âNo!â Lee said, rather quickly. âAre, are you offering to take me with you?â He sounded less sure of himself as the sentence dragged on.
âIF,â I barked, standing up and sticking a pinky in his face. âYou keep your promise!â
âCross my heart.â He smiled, drawing an âXâ over his chest before hooking his pinky with mine.Â

I've been wanting to request a Marvel one for a while now, but have just finally thought of something that I agreed onâ
A oneshot with the avengers and the genderless reader celebrating their first birthday. Like where they came from, birthdays don't exist, the actual celebration and having a date of being born doesn't exist for them.
I'm also only familiar with the movies so I don't know what actually happened after Endgameâ So spoilers outside that would be very appreciated if that's alrightâ
True meaning behind birthdays
Pairing: Avengers x gn!reader (platonic)
Summary: Reader comes from a planet where birthdays don't exist. The others decide to throw the best first birthday party ever for them.
A/N: I made this story so that it doesn't contain any spoilers. I really hope you like this, I tried my best.
Y/BD - your birthdate
Earth didn't have the best reputation among the other planets. Everyone you knew always told you it's a place not worth visiting. But that didn't stop you.
And oh wrong they all were. Sure, Earth didn't have the most impressive technology, but it compensated for it with many rich and diverse cultures. So many nationalities and religions, each celebrating their own holidays and traditions. Sure, some might say that it was impractical for so many cultures to live alongside each other, but you thought it was fascinating.
You've been on Earth for over half a year now and you already knew about many human customs, yet there was still so much more to learn, since they mingled with each other constantly, for example holidays typically celebrated in the U.S. migrated all the way to middle Europe.
However, there were some events that were celebrated by everyone. Like New Years Eve, when humans celebrated their planet's complete rotation around the Sun. Silly creatures. And the biggest catch? Different people celebrated New Years on different days!
You chuckled at the memory, focusing on your previous activity. You were relaxing in the compound's living room, since there weren't any missions that regular S.H.I.E.L.D. agents couldn't handle on their own.
You were soon joined by Tony, a very extravagant and bold man, but still a very friendly colleague of yours. He scooted over until he was sitting next to you and asked "So, how did you enjoy Nat's birthday party?"
Ah, birthdays, of course. Celebrating one's day of birth every year was something all humans did as well. The concept was very foreign to you, I mean, why would anyone celebrate being one year closer to death? Still, you could not deny that you enjoyed yourself very much.
"Are you asking just because you organized the thing?" you asked back with an arched brow. Tony looked at you as if you grew a second head "Y/N! You know I'm better than that!"
"But...did you like it?" he asked after a few moments of quiet. You laughed "Yes Tony, I really enjoyed the party." You could practically see his face light up like a Christmas tree (another thing you discovered during your time here) "Awesome! Say, when can we celebrate your birthday?"
Oh... "Uhm, well, I don't really have one..." you explained. Tony's eyes widened "What do you mean? Everybody has a birthdate!" he chuckled, but his tone was mainly confused. "Well, yes, of course I have a birthdate, but where I come from, birthdays aren't really a thing. We don't celebrate them or even really acknowledge them." you shrugged.
"Well, when is your birthday?" Tony asked. You thought for a moment, before replying "Well, we don't really divide our days the same way you humans do. You would describe someone's date of birth with the day, month and year, whereas we just describe it with the position a certain set of constellations has in the sky at that moment. You'd be surprised how accurate it is." Tony blinked a few times "Yeah, that doesn't clear it up much." You laughed again.
For the next couple of minutes you tried to explain to Tony how it all worked, using "your" constellation as an example, not knowing about the plan the genius playboy had in mind all along.
After he told you he finally understood what you meant, he promptly excused himself, saying he was actually just taking a break from something he and Bruce were working on. You said your "see you later"s and parted ways.
As Tony entered the lab, Bruce, who has been working on their project when Tony had his break, looked up to see who came in, before turning back to the machine set on the working table in front of him. "Hi Tony." he muttered "Did you enjoy your break?"
Tony walked over to his friend and leaned on the table he was working on "Yea yeah. Listen, I have an interesting idea..."
It took a lot of math and research, but after a few days, the two geniuses finally had it. They managed to convert your birthdate from your people's system to theirs and it was supposed to be on Y/BD.
Which was gonna be pretty pretty damn soon.
So they did the most logical thing. They called a secret Avengers meeting to get everyone in on the plan.
"Are you sure they even want a birthday party?" Steve asked, because the last thing he would want to is to make you uncomfortable.
"Of course, you know they like to be involved in everything." Wanda reassured him with a wave of her hand. "Still, I think we shouldn't throw a big party." Steve muttered. "I agree, it's their first birthday, we wouldn't want to overwhelm them." Vision nodded. Tony sighed and slumped in his chair dramatically "Ugh, okay then. You guys are no fun, I swear..." straightening up once again, he eyed everyone seriously "Okay, here's the plan..."
And what a plan it was. Wanda and Vision were in charge of making a birthday cake, Tony and Nat were in charge of the alcohol and your favourite drink. Thor was in charge of getting your favourite snacks, Bruce and Sam were in charge of decorating and that left Steve in charge of taking you somewhere nice until the others had everything ready.
It wouldn't have been that odd for someone from the team to ask you to hang out, but you couldn't help but notice Steve's eyes darting around almost as if in fear. He must've thought he was being sneaky, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
But once you were out of the compound, you could feel Steve relax as he took you to a restaurant that quickly became your favourite after a few weeks of staying with the Avengers.
You two had so much fun, talking about anything and everything. One thing you had in common with the captain was your love for exploring. Of course, he knew much more about Earth than you, but he still missed nearly seventy years. You two would often share your favourite music or artists you discovered, as well as movies or literature.
"What do you think about birthdays Y/N?" he asked you out of the blue. It caught you off guard a little. Just a few moments ago you were discussing if Disney was a good brand or not and now this...Especially when you discussed birthdays with Tony just a few weeks ago. Strange...
"I think it's fascinating how you humans find so many things worth celebrating. I mean, birthdays are a little hard for me to understand, why would you want to celebrate getting older? I thought that humans wanted to avoid that?"
This answer seemed to throw Steve off his rhythm for a bit. "Well, it's not really about that-" he wanted to explain, but was cut off by a buzzing sound. Steve quickly reached into his pocket, taking out his phone, the culprit guilty of disrupting your conversation, checking the text message he recieved, before putting it back and looking at you again "Sorry, Fury needs me for something. Do you mind if I drop you off and then go?"
You were a little sad that your good time had to end so soon, since you both were having so much fun, but you knew it couldn't be helped, so you just shook your head and smiled.
As you made your way back, you turned to Steve again "So, what did you want to tell me, back at the restaurant?" you tilted your head to the side.
Steve almost started talking again, but before any sound could escape his mouth, it seemed like he changed his mind "Would you believe me if I told you I really don't remember?" he chuckled awkwardly. You couldn't help but squint at him. He was acting very suspiciously... "Yeah..." you answered absentmindedly. Just what was going on?
You spent the whole journey back to the compound mulling it over in your head. Was it somebody's birthday? No, surely they would've told you if that was the case. Was it your birthday? But, nobody knew when that was. So what on Earth was going on??
You decided you were gonna confront Steve if he wasn't going o explain anything by himself. So as soon as you were about to pass the compound's living room, you quickly tugged him in, telling him you needed to talk to him before he had to go.
The room was darkened, somebody must've drawn down the blinds. That didn't matter to you in that moment, you wanted answers. Steve became a silhouette in front of you, so you couldn't see his exact expression. You looked into what you imagined were his eyes, and with the most serious look you could muster you said "Alright Steve, quit joking around. What is happening?"
But before your interrogation could progress, the blinds were drawn up and the room was suddenly bathed in light as people yelled "Happy birthday!!!"
You whirled around and saw everyone gathered in the living room, standing around the coffee table, upon which were various snacks that you grew to love during your stay here, complete with your favourite drink, and in the middle of it all sat a beautiful cake. The room was decorated with ornaments in your favourite colours and everyone had a big smile plastered in their face.
Well, you certainly did not expect that. After carefully looking around at everything, you couldn't help but laugh "So it's my birthday??" you asked, surprised.
"Wait, what did cap told you?" Tony asked, alarmed. "Well, nothing specific, but he wasn't subtle either." you smiled and looked at the now blushing Steve from the corner of your eye.
The rest of the day was great, possibly the best one you've had here. Good food, drinks and laughter all around. It warmed your heart to receive so many beautiful gifts, words couldn't express just how grateful you were. One thing still nagged in your brain though...
All of you were seated on the various sofas and armchairs around the coffee table, calmly chatting about beloved memories, exchanging funny stories and everything was heavenly peacful.
"I still can't wrap my head around why you would go throuh all the trouble for me." you shook your head, the disbelief still lingering in your mind.
"Well, that's simple. We like having you around." Tony shrugged. The others nodded. "Yeah, we appreciate having you with us. You're a great friend." Wanda added. "Celebrating birthdays is like showing gratefulness that the celebrated person is still with you." Bruce explained.
Their confessions were so heartwarming, you couldn't help but to shed a few tears. Sam, who was sitting next to you, put his arm around your shoulders, rubbing your arm comfortingly. So that's what birthdays were really about...
It was great to have friends.

Platonic Hearts (Donghun)
Title: Platonic Hearts
Pairing: Donghun x Reader
Genre: Fluff; Friends to lovers
Word count: 3,132
Writer: Kpopmadness (Ju)
"Why are you mixing the coffee like that?" Donghun asks his female co-worker and best friend as she mixes an iced coffee drink for a customer.
"Because there's no rules on how to mix coffee." She answers with a teasing wink.
"I trained you better than this." Donghun says with a shake of his head, leaning his back against the counter behind him as he looked down at her as she continued making the coffee.
She hums in response and finishes making the drink before handing it to the customer. She wipes her hands off on her black apron and looks Donghun in the eyes with a sweet smile.
"But you did teach me everything I know."
She had started working at the local coffee shop two years ago. Donghun being the one that oversaw her and taught her how to make the drinks properly. The pair had become very close quickly, their personalities very similar but just different enough to keep them guessing. Since she had started working there the two had started going to each others apartments often. Every week almost. Staying late into the night until the other retired to their bedroom and the other slept on the couch, too tired to go home.
They became best friends that everyone mistook for a couple. Donghun often played with her low ponytail and rested his chin on her shoulder, the 'affection' keeping creepy guys off her back. She did the same by resting her head against his chest when she was tired or by playing with his fingers as they talked closely. Both of them successfully warding off the unwanted attention and drama of a romantic relationship.
The pair continued the work day until the last customer was happily saw to and the street lights of the busy city chimed on. Illuminating the sidewalks and roads. The rest of the co-workers bid each other good night, the shop going quiet as Donghun and her finished wiping down counters before Donghun could lock the shop up to go home. The manager of the building trusting him with the responsibility.
She was wiping down a dark counter top that had a cleaning solution sprayed onto the surface when Donghun walked up beside her after having put chairs up for the night.
"What are you doing tonight?" He asked, watching her work.
She let out a small hum, thinking over if she had anything scheduled that night. "Nothing." She answered honestly. "What about you?"
Donghun took an extra rag and helped her wipe down the counter as he said, "I don't have anything planned. I was wondering if you wanted to come over and we could finish watching that drama we started last week."
"The one you said ends sad?â She whines with a pout.
Donghun grins at her, having seen the drama before but wanting to watch it with her so he had someone to talk about it with.
"It's worth watching." He says.
She lets out a huff but smiles at him despite herself. "Who's cooking?"
"I can."
She scrunches up her face at him in disgust, making him narrow his eyes at her.
"I'm a better cook than you. You can't even cook an egg." He playfully jabs, tossing his dirty rag at her.
She laughs and catches the rag before it hits her in the face. "Fine, you cook. But if you burn the food again we're ordering pizza."
They finish cleaning up the place before taking their aprons off to hang up for the night. Donghun locks up the shop and she follows him back to his place. She teases Donghun relentlessly as he cooks dinner, reminding him again and again not to burn it.
The two sat side by side on the couch as the drama played out on the screen, both of them talking back and forth about what was happening and making fun of characters. After eating dinner she rests her head against his shoulder, something they were both used to. His hand rested on her knee as they continued watching their show and talking. Donghun's cat, Hae, padding her way up to lay between them as she slept.
Midnight rolled around quickly. She fell asleep on Donghun's shoulder and he could feel his own eyes struggling to remain open, his shoulder numb from the weight of her head. He shut the TV off and gently woke her up so he could pull a lever in the couch to turn it into a bed. She quickly flopped down on it and fell asleep again almost instantly. Donghun shaking his head at her as he covered her with a blanket before retiring to his bedroom, Hae right behind him.
`````
2 weeks later:
"You don't have to take their order." Donghun tells her as she goes to grab her notebook and pen to wait on the four boys sitting at a booth by the window.
She gives him a sideways grin as she starts walking past him. "I can handle your friends. They've been in here plenty of times for me to know what they're like."
Donghun walks her as she heads for their table, all four heads turning toward her and grinning widely. She says something that makes them all laugh and the nerves in Donghun's stomach lessen. His friends would never be mean to her, that wasn't what he was worried about. It was the hard time they would give him later.
She comes back shaking her head with a smile tugging at her lips.
"I love them." She tells him as she goes to make their orders. Leaving Donghun with his mouth open feeling speechless.
She finishes making the four drinks brimming over with whipped cream and sets them on a tray when Donghun takes the tray from her.
"I'll take it from here." He tells her, making her nod as she goes off to busy herself elsewhere.
Donghun walks up to his friends and sets the tray down in the middle of the table, all eyes going to him.
"You still haven't asked her out yet, have you?" His friend, Jun, says with a playful smirk.
"No, and I'm not going to." Donghun snaps as he sits down by Chan. "We're just friends, I've told you guys this."
"Sure doesn't seem like it." Seyoon mumbles under his breath before taking a swig of coffee.
Donghun glares at him and opens his mouth to give a retort when Byeongkwan interrupts him.
"How long have you guys been friends again?"
"Two years."
"And you bought her a necklace with your initials on it, because?..."
Donghun sits back in his chair speechless. He had gone to his friends for help with picking out a gold necklace for her a few weeks ago, as a surprise.
"I can't get my friends gifts?"
Jun shakes his head, the rest of the members exchanging looks between each other. Clearly enjoying this too much.
"We didn't say that." Jun replies calmly. "But it is a bit strong when you get a girl a gold necklace with your initials engraved on the pendant."
"And she hasn't taken it off since you gave it to her." Chan points out.
Donghun glares around the table before turning to look at her. She stood behind the counter restocking items, not paying attention to them. The gold pendant laid perfectly on her chest with the initials L.D on it. He had never noticed that she had worn it everyday since he purchased it for her. He had bought it for her just as a way of saying he appreciated her as his best friend, to thank her for all the times they had shared together. He had never thought it to mean more than that.
More customers started to flood in, rush hour upon them. Donghun lets out a sigh, dismissing his thoughts as he moves to go back to work.
"Just think about what we said." Seyoon calls after him. "She handles you well and cares a lot for you. You would be missing out on a good thing if you let her pass by.
Donghun pauses briefly, his shoulders tensing at Seyoon's words. It takes him a moment to snap out of it before he can join her behind the counter to help her take orders and make drinks. Long after his friends leave, their words haunt him and spin around in his head for the remainder of the day. Making him stare at her much longer than he usually did.
"Why do you keep staring at me, Donghun?" She asks him after she catches his dark eyes on her for the millionth time in the past hour.
Donghun shakes his head, feeling stupid. "Sorry, I was just thinking."
"You seem like you've been thinking a lot since you saw your friends." She observes.
Donghun winces, he was hoping he hadn't been that obvious. But he had apparently been very bad at hiding his state.
"I was just wondering," He says slowly, not sure how to put what he needed to ask. "Why have you worn the necklace I gave you so much?"
She tilts her head, puzzled by his question. "Because I really like it? I've never been much for jewelry but I really like this necklace. Plus it's not cheap. I can put it on and leave it and be reminded of you."
Donghun stays quiet, their eyes staying locked much longer than they ever had before. She feels her face heat up, the thought crossing her mind that he would kiss her.
"Right." Donghun says weakly, not knowing what else to say so he just turns on his heel and distracts himself with work. Leaving her to feel confused.
````
8 weeks later;
Since that day, things were awkward between the two for a few days. Both unsure what to do. But they quickly snapped out of it and went back to their ruthless teasing and watching movies together every week. And she continued to wear his necklace everyday no matter what.
"Hey, sweetheart, you still haven't taken my order." A man close to her age called at her from across the counter. A smirk tugging at his lips, his voice sultry.
She felt her shoulders tense but forced a pleasant smile on her lips as she walked up to him. She hadn't had a man hit on her in a long time, she wasn't used to someone being this bold.
"What can I get you?" She asks politely, trying to avoid eye contact with him.
"You can get me your number for a start." He winks, making an angry heat pulse through her body. Thankfully, seconds later he says his order, giving her a chance to get away and compose herself.
She goes back with his coffee and slides it across the counter. The man grabs her wrist and holds it gently, keeping her in place. His touch shocking her.
"Leaving so soon?" He says with a cocky smirk.
She opens her mouth to say something, her face feeling hot with a mixture of anger and embarrassment.
"She has work to finish and then she's with me." A deep voice says from behind her, his hands resting on either side of her, caging her in. He takes one of his hands to pull her wrist free of the man and holds it in his own. Relief flooding her.
"Is he giving you trouble, princess?" Donghun asks her, tucking a piece of hair behind her ears.
The man quickly takes his things and leaves without saying another word. All the colour drained from his face. She lets out a sigh of relief and chuckles.
"Did he hurt you?" Donghun asks her, still behind her. His breath in her ear as he speaks.
She feels her heart flutter, which it had never done with Donghun before. "No, I'm okay." She replies shakily. "Thank you for saving me."
"Anytime." He says.
Before he can stop himself, Donghun presses his lips to her bare shoulder. The action making his lips tingle pleasantly but heat rush through his body. She lets out a small gasp and turns to look at him, her eyes wide. They stare at each other for several seconds, the world around them falling away.
She's the first to break the silence between them. "We'll just pretend that didn't happen."
Donghun straightens and pulls away from her, giving her space to exit. "Yeah, it was an accident." He says, clearing his throat even though there was nothing there.
She quickly brushes past him, hurrying off to do something else. Her face red and her legs shaking so bad they almost couldn't carry her.
`````
3 weeks later
The next few weeks were agony, working together became almost painfully awkward after Donghun had kissed her shoulder. No matter how much she scrubbed on the spot, she could feel the phantom touch of his lips. Making her face heat up every time. They hadn't talked about it. And they hadn't hung out since then.
It was all Donghun could do to walk up to her after work, his throat dry when it usually wasn't with her. "What are you doing later tonight?" He asked.
She met his eyes, seeming surprised he was talking to her. "Nothing. Did you have something in mind?"
"I was thinking you could come over for a movie." He says, straightening his back and trying to keep the nerves he felt out of his usually steady voice. "There's no reason we should let what happened a few weeks ago ruin our friendship."
Donghun let a smirk cross his lips as the next words left his mouth. "Besides, I've missed your horrible cooking."
She rolls her eyes and lets out a laugh, one that he hadn't realized how much he had missed. "Alright." She said, smiling at him like old times. "Your on. I'll meet you at your place tonight and try out a new recipe just to annoy you."
Donghun rolls his eyes at her but still chuckles. Feeling a rush of excitement go through him at the thought of her coming over to his place later.
She showed up at his doorstep two hours later, letting herself in without even knocking like everything was normal and the kissing incident hadn't even happened. She gave him a hard time as she cooked dinner. The two of them talking while she cooked, Donghun sat at the kitchen table and kept her company.
She surprised herself with dinner, it actually turning out really good. Even surprising Donghun. They went to their usual spots on the couch to start a movie. Donghun picking out a romantic comedy. Soon it got late, her head rested on his shoulder like always. Both feeling safe and comfortable.
"We should get some sleep." Donghun whispers against her forehead as he turns the TV off.
She lets out a yawn and stands up to turn his couch into a bed, knowing the routine by heart. Donghun goes to put the dishes in the sink to wash in the morning, she sits down on the makeshift bed. She feels a strange pull toward him, a pull to be close to him again. But she shoves it down and forces a smile when he appears again.
"Do you need anything?" He asks, running his fingers through his dark hair.
She shakes her head, "No, I'm okay. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." Donghun answers through a yawn, slowly making his way down the hall to his bedroom.
She watches him leave, his bedroom door closing before she leans her head back against the couch and stares up at the ceiling. Several emotions at once plaguing her. She had sat there half the night with her head on his shoulder, the action used to mean nothing, now she wasn't so sure. She fiddles with the necklace around her neck, feeling the pendant between her fingers. Goosebumps rose as she thought about his lips on her shoulder. Even though that had happened weeks ago, she still failed to erase it from her mind.
Her body seemed to move on its own as she made her way down to his room, her hands shaking only slightly as she opened the door slowly. Donghun was sat up in bed reading a book, the light on his nightstand illuminating his features. He looks up from his book and sees her peeking in his bedroom door, her being there surprising him.
"What's wrong?" He asks, seeing how nervous she looked.
She went and sat down beside him, her heart practically in her throat. "Can you do something for me?" She asks.
Donghun nods and sits up. Waiting patiently for her request.
"Close your eyes." She says quietly, feeling her heart pound faster.
"Why?" Donghun asks, giving her a puzzled look.
"Please?" She pleads gently, feeling too nervous to explain herself or what she was about to do.
Donghun gives her a lingering questioning look but obeys and shuts his eyes. She stares at his face for a moment, admiring his features before leaning in and pressing her lips to his gently. Donghun freezes, going still as a statue. She keeps her lips pressed against his, afraid to move them. She slowly pulls away, meeting his eyes.
They both stare at each other for several seconds, both just trying to process the silent confession. Donghun is the first to break the silence and cups her face with his hands, his face inches from hers.
"Are you sure?" He whispers, his heart threatening to burst.
She stares into his eyes, seeing more love there than she had ever seen someone show toward her. She had been blind to it for years. She rests her hands on his chest, feeling his heart beat wildly against his rib cage.
"I'm sure." She whispers back.
That was all Donghun needed to hear before his lips crashed into hers. His mouth encasing hers, making her breath deeply. Her taste and touch something Donghun didn't know he had wanted desperately. She gently bites his lower lip, making him suck in a breath before sliding his hands down to her thighs to bring her into his lap. He pressed her lower back until she was flush against him, every inhale and exhale she took he was able to feel.
Her hands run through his hair after they pull away. A goofy grin on their faces. Donghun slides down in bed further, covering her up with the blankets until they were both comfortable. She rested on top of him with her face nuzzled into his neck and her fingers woven through his hair while he traced patterns on her lower back. Both of them talking to each other softly about their true feelings until they fell asleep.
Sometimes moving on is good
Chapter 3&4
The two of you met often for drinks and chatting, while you exchanged a few messages.
You : Heyđâď¸ what is up ? I haven't heard from you today, is everything ok? Btw i finished your recipe but the cake đ° was not looking goodđđ¤Ł
Diane : hi, sorry i was busy with work. what happened with the cake? Oh i know you must have overcooked it, i used to do that all the time at first. What does btw mean? And why are there little faces on my phone ?
You :đ¤Łoh honey...those are smileys you use that to had emotions to texts. AND Btw means by the way, everybody knows that diane.
Diane: haha ! Well I don't, anyways I finally finished the book you handed me last time.
You: OMG ALREADY??? IN 3 DAYS ! did you at least like it?
Diane: i did especially because of Judeâs past. Oh, and then Judeâs present, because sometimes life just keeps knocking people down, even when theyâve already suffered more than anyone ever should.
You: yes ohh it was so sad. I almost shead a tear. Which does not happen often !
Especially when reading... But I'm glad you liked it.đ
Diane: well i did the writing was really good, and the plot was interesting, what do you mean especially when you read ?
You: well... I always have trouble connecting to a book, especially when I have to read it, AND WHEN IT'S LONNNGđ¤Ł
In all seriousness I just have a hard time reading for as long as I can remember.
Diane: oh...why is that??
You: well I was diagnosed with An Oral and Written Language Learning Disability with impairment in reading and a specific reading comprehension deficit years ago. So basically my brain don't wORK.
Diane: i apologise that was intrusive of me
You: oh no don't worry I'm fine with talking about it, it's not that big of a deal, it doesn't stop me from messing up your cakeđ¤đ.
Diane: đ you'll do better next time don't worry. Do you know what are the causes ? You don't have to answer. It's just, well medicine interests me a lot.
You: apparently an abnormal cortical development, that occurs before or during the sixth month of fetal brain development, may have Abnormal cell formation known as ectopias, and more rarely, vascular micro-malformations, and microgyrus.
It's all big words but yeah those are the latest studies about dyslexia sais.
Diane: oh okay, i never thought it was actually physical, it's good to know
you: me neither until I searched it ! Even if I had itđ¤Ł. Sorry i gotta go I'm gonna be late for work !
Diane : sure, have fun! well Don't have fun...you know what I mean
Goodbye y/n.
When you got back from work you directly went on your phone hoping that diane sent you a message just so you'd have an excuse to talk to her. You had just seen her a few days before but somehow you still missed her, and little did you know she was missing you too.
After a few weeks you grew closer, and she invited you over for lunch or brunch, but tonight, you were going out. Together. You had asked her on a date a few days before.
"Hi Diane ? Yes it's me I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me on Friday ?...mmm...yes well I know a great place next to the cinema... Totally we can go out to the movies and then diner...what do you want to see ? Okay, cool see you then."
Yes, you were neighbors, you could've asked her in person, but you didn't want to be rejected face to face, it seamed easier to do on the phone.
And tonight was the night, the movie didn't start until a few hours, but you had already started getting ready. You picked up a nice outfit, Classy but casual, and put on just a little make up.
On the other side of the road diane was also starting to prepare, she was -not gonna lie- overall a bit anxious, why did you ask her out? Was it a date ? No it couldn't be, you'd never think of her like this. She was lucky to call you her friend, maybe you didn't even think of her as a friend ? God I'm so silly i got carried away, she probably doesn't even like me back. She was completely overwhelmed with thoughts, her breathing was shallow and she could not get in the right headspace as she put on her outfit.
She didn't notice that it was almost time, and that you were going to show up anytime to pick her up.
She offered to drive but you said you'd like too since you worked from home and didn't drive your car out often.
next thing she knows, her doorbell rings and as she goes down the stairs you hear her say "coming !" in a soft voice.
"I'm so sorry I barely even finished getting ready... Here come in I just have to find my shoes and I'll be right there." She looked so beautiful in her bordeaux dress that you didn't register her words.
"...o.. okay.." you manage to say while eyeing her up and down. Even if she didn't seem to know, she was beyond beautiful and you were going to make sure she did.
"You look.." you couldn't finish you sentence before she started rambling and letting all of her anxieties taking over her speach.
-" what too much, oh no i should have never put on that, sorry i thought it was cute but I'm too old for this and ugl...
She didn't have time to finish you just cut her off;
-"NO ! No i ment you look beautiful like this"
You couldn't help but feel attracted to her right now, but you put it aside, she didn't like women obviously?
-"Oh...wait really ?" You could feel the shakiness in her tone
"Yes...of course you look cute, and the dress is amazing on you. Don't even worry about it you are a very beautiful women diane."
You said in a firm voice that made her knees go weak.
"Well we should get going sweetie, do you have your shoes?"
"Yes..let's go" she closed the door blushing widely as you opened up the door to your car.
You bowed as you said "Milady" in a formal tone
She giggled softly and it was the most precious sound in the universe.
The car drive went by in a comfortable silence as just the soft music and a bit of humming could be heard.
You invited her to the movies, she offered the popcorn and choose your seats.
It wasn't necessarily a scary movie, but when things got a little tense, you could see her clench the armrest, so you scooted over and offered her your shoulder so she could hold on to you. After a bit of esitaton she accepted your embrace and the two of you cuddled together while the movie played. She gasped and then laughed at herself a few times.
When the credits started to roll none of you wanted to move, but you broke the silence and told her;
"As much as I'd like to stay here and cuddle you... I think the dude standing there with the bucket needs us to leave... Also the reservation is in ten minutes."
She sighed softly in defeat, gathered her bag and started to get up.
She rose too quickly and felt dizzy as her legs started to buckle. But you cought her hips before she could fall.
"It's okay...I got you", you said softly in her ear.
"Are you good? Can you walk" you asked as you still held her hips firmly. Which send a shiver down her spine, and a tingle down further to the both of you.
"Yeah.. I'm good thank you I just got up too fast".
You both went to the restaurant, the waiter took your orders and you both started to chat about anything and everything, the movies, life, cake, and even your delicious pastries.
"I was NOT scared !?"
-"YES you totally were ! you clang on to me the whole time I heard you whimper at ThĂŠ screen everytime there was something scary on."
-"sorry about that..."
-"why are you apologizing ? If it had bothered me i would have told you so..."
-"oh..okay, but I wasn't scared, just sometimes the movie was making me anxious ! I mean like that part in the stairs...brr..gave me chills."
-"alright alright fine..you weren't scared...I'll give it to you.. just because your cute"
She nearly choked at your comment and became as red as your wine.
"It's okay you don't have to be shy with me."
-"Do you really think I'm cute?"
-"Yeah, already told you you were cute today; and well not just tonight"
-"thank you y/n"
"Anytime diane, you are beautiful i want you to know that"
She didn't want to cry in front of you but you saw the tear she was desperately trying to hide run down her cheek, and got worried.
"Oh diane...are you okay ? I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable... please look at me" you moved closer to wipe the tears off of her face, and gently stroked her cheek.
"I'm fine y/n, just it's been a long time since anybody called me beautiful"
-"Well that's a shame then, and I'll make sure you hear it a lot more."
"You don't have to do that... I don't need to hear it"
-"You do. And you should be hearing it, i don't know why it stopped but I'll make sure it doesn't ever again"
She sobbed at your words again
"Oh No...sweet girl don't cry.. please... you're okay diane, I'm here always, I'm your friend"
She calmed down a bit, and felt butterflies in her stomach at what you said.
-"You are? You mean you actually want to be ?"
"OF course silly, i wouldn't have invited you to diner if I didn't at least like you diane."
Just after that sentence left your mouth the waiter arrived to pick up your plates, you breathed out 'thank you' as he left.
"You know, I don't understand why you didn't think I liked you, at leaaaast a little ?"
You joked as you took a sip of your glass.
"Well.. I've been alone for so long now...I don't know...i thought you were just hanging out with me because you didn't have a choice...".
You were saddened by her words
"Diane..I... if I had known you felt that way I would have said something a long time ago ! I don't want you to think for a second that i am here out of pity or because I got nothing better to do. I'm here cause I wanted to have a nice evening out with you."
You said as you put your hand on top of hers, when she didn't draw back you started to gently stroke it.
"Would you two like some dessert ?"
You pulled away to take the menu form the waitress.
"Do you want some dessert diane? They have apple pie, and tiramisu?"
-"i don't know...I'm not that hungry for both but i don't want to choose."
-"we can share you know"
-"huh? What do you mean"
-"well, i take the apple pie, you take the tiramisu, and we split"
-"are you sure? I wouldn't want to bother y..."
You cut her off before she could go any further.
"Yes I'm sure diane"
"..o..okay then"
"Are YOU sure??" You asked in a funny tone
She giggled and nodded.
You asked the waiter for both and shared when they arrived. After fighting a bit over who would pay you told diane that you had asked her out and therefore you should pay, "and if you want to pay so bad... you'll pay next time."
Both of you were full, you had spent an incredible night, it was dark but you offered diane a quick walk around the park, and she agreed. The two of you made your way back to the car after laughing your asses of and getting even closer than before.
You drove her back to your...her house. And before she entered her home you softly said;
"Well diane, i had an amazing night, we have to do that again sometime."
-"yes we do, i had so much fun too"
-"And I ment everything i said tonight,.."
For a few moments you just looked at each other, your gaze met her lips and she thought about how sweet they would taste before thinking 'who am i kidding she'll never kiss me, get those thoughts out of your head diane'
Before you could process what was happening, both of your bodies grew closer and your eyes shifted between both of your lips you kissed her, softly. it was a calm and quiet kiss. You broke off for air and looked into her eyes. You caressed her cheeks and put your hand on the small of her back before kissing her again, she moaned inside your lips and you took the chance to put your tongue in her mouth. Her hands flew to your neck and she kissed you back.
After a few minutes of making out you pulled away, you didn't really want to break the moment but you asked
"Diane... it's late i should go back home..."
She looked a hurt and a bit sad while she let you go.
"No don't.. I don't regret kissing you Diane don't worry. I just want to take this slow"
"Oh alright I thought you didn't... nevermind. Go home y/n, it's getting cold out here" she looked down at her hands and
"..you don't regret it don't you?"
"No i enjoyed it" she said blushing slightly.
"Good... I'll see you tomorrow then... Good night diane"
you kissed her sweetly again before leaving and you both smiled like teenagers who just had their first date.
-"Sweet dreams y/n"
Page 7: Producers of the Gossip Girl reboot have been begging Blake Lively to join the cast of the new show but she's turned up her nose at the idea -- she's not ungrateful, because the original show made her star, but she closed the book on that part of her life a long time ago -- she's blissfully content in her role as a mom to daughters James, Inez and Betty whom she shares with her husband Ryan Reynolds and being a stay-at-home parent and filming an occasional movie sounds way more appealing to her than returning to that hothouse Gossip Girl universe -- she says she had her show and wants the new team to have theirs, but to die-hard fans, it still feels like a major snub
* After calling it quits on her romance with Ben Affleck in January, Ana de Armas is ready to play the field and Hollywood's heartthrob du jour, Rege-Jean Page has caught her eye and she was over the moon when the Bridgerton hunk recently signed on to her new thriller The Gray, which also stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans -- of course, Rege is gorgeous, but Ana also likes that he isn't your typical Tinseltown success story and comes from a rich cultural background, just like she does and she's hoping to get to know him better once they start shooting in L.A. -- while Ana has been warned that won't sit well with Rege's live-in girlfriend, Emily Brown, that doesn't seem to bother Ana
* Janet Jackson's life story is set to get the full documentary treatment next year, and no stone will be left unturned when it comes to her famously dysfunctional family -- the family is freaking out, as well they should be -- Janet will be brutally honest about her late father Joe Jackson, who bullied her and made her feel like she was nothing with out him but her siblings say they had it much worse especially when it came to Michael Jackson, who suffered verbal and physical abuse from Joe throughout his childhood -- Janet, who became a mom at 50 with her businessman ex, Wissam Al Mana, is also ready to tell all about their divorce and custody battle -- doing this documentary has been incredibly cathartic for her and she can't wait to shed light on her family's deep, dark secrets
Page 8: Angelina Jolie has been legally single for two years, and now she's finally ready to mingle -- she's been laying low since her 2016 split from Brad Pitt and she's feels it's time to get out there and she's eager to meet some new and interesting men and the mom of six is open to being hooked up by Hollywood pals like Ellen Pompeo, whom she was seen dining with in Beverly Hills and Angie likes the idea of dating a fellow A-lister who can relate to her about living in the spotlight and Ellen's been helping out with suggestions -- Angie is even open to joining an elite dating service and now the hunt is on to find a suitable bunch of candidates -- she wants fun and adventure again and after months of just being Mom, dressing up, putting on some perfume and engaging in stimulating conversation sounds good to Angie
* It's only been six months since Drew Barrymore launched her chirpy daytime talk show, but behind the scenes, she's on the verge of a major meltdown -- the multitasking mom who shares daughters Olive and Frankie with ex-hubby Will Kopelman, has no idea that juggling work and family would be this hard and she's feeling pressure from every side -- she desperately wants to be there for the kids, but she's trying to make her show a hit, and with her production company, she has a million others things on her plate as well -- the stressed-out star has also been chowing down on junk food and drinking too much caffeine so she can't get more than a few hours of sleep a night -- Drew doesn't want to let anyone down, but if she doesn't dial it back, she's going to collapse from exhaustion
* Matthew Perry announced his engagement to his on-off girlfriend Molly Hurwitz in November, but he seems to be having second thoughts -- he's crazy in love, but he's scared of messing up a good thing by making things official and he also worries what kind of husband he'll make given his health woes and battles with addiction -- Molly has faith in Matthew, but she can see wedding planning is stressing him out, even more so now that the Friends reunion is set to start shooting and he's pushing himself to go through with it, but his doubts are gnawing away at him
Page 28: In 2009, LeAnn Rimes made headlines when she was caught hooking up with her costar Eddie Cibrian while they were both married to other people and now, more than a decade later, she is opening up about that time in her life and spilling secrets that she's never shared before -- looking back, LeAnn thinks it's unfair that she got raked over the coals like that and the public shaming caused her to suffer panic attacks and all LeAnn did was fall in love -- of course, there are likely big regrets about the way everything happened, but she and Eddie never meant to hurt anyone and they just had this connection they couldn't walk away from and a few months after their romance was revealed LeAnn parted ways with then-husband Dean Sheremet and Eddie filed for divorce from Brandi Glanville and they wed in 2011 -- while LeAnn has been a great stepmom to Eddie's sons Mason and Jack, she'd love to have a child of her own someday and she and Eddie have tried and tried with no success and now that she's pushing 40, they know time is ticking and they could always go the surrogate route, and they just might do it if it doesn't happen naturally in the next few months
Page 29: Liam Hemsworth has been dating Gabriella Brooks for 15 months, and he's so smitten that he could put a ring on it any day now -- Liam's made it clear that he's ready to walk down the aisle again after calling it quits in longtime love Miley Cyrus in 2019 -- everyone is thrilled because Gabriella is so sweet and easygoing, which is just what Liam needs -- Gabriella has already gotten the stamp of approval from the Hemsworth clan, who had long been skeptical of Miley and when Liam brought Gabriella home, his parents thought, that's more like it -- now that Liam's settled in at his new $5 million spread on Byron Bay, all signs point to him popping the question because he's never been happier
* Shedding post-pregnancy weight is never easy but luckily Katy Perry has a secret weapon to help her get back in shape which is Orlando Bloom -- Katy had already dropped 35 pounds since giving birth to the couple's first child, Daisy Dove, thanks to her fitness-obsessed fiance and Orlando has her eating five small vegan meals a day and he follows the same diet to make it easier for her, and Orlando makes sure she hikes or swims at least five days a week and those are the type for fun activities where he can join her -- Orlando's also her biggest cheerleader: during their recent Hawaiian getaway, Katy was nervous because she felt she hadn't lost enough weight but Orlando told her she was one sexy momma and he really is her biggest supporter
* Despite the pandemic, Nicole Kidman's remained one of the busiest women in Hollywood, which is getting under her stuck-at-home husband's skin -- while Keith Urban was forced to cancel his concert tour last year, Nicole had a whirlwind 2020, shooting her miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers in Australia and her historical thriller The Northman in Northern Ireland back-to-back and it's been incredibly hard on Keith because it drives him crazy not being able to get out there on stage -- Nicole hates seeing him the dumps, but she's told him he's lucky to be able to spend so much time with their daughters Sunday and Faith -- with Nicole set to play comedy legend Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos, which starts filming this spring, that can only put more stress on the marriage but Nicole has no plans to slow down, and she's not making any apologies
Page 30: Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl went from zero to 60 practically overnight, but their turbo-charged romance appears to be slowing down -- ever since Patrick and Linda reconnected last summer, the late-in-life lovebirds have been joined at the hip at Linda's Colorado home, where things have gotten too close for comfort because Patrick's a laid-back guy, but he hasn't had a moment to himself because Linda is always pushing him to get outdoors and do stuff with her and Patrick feels the need for more space and some along time -- spending every moment together and hanging on each other's every word was fun for a while, but they don't want to lose their independence and they realize they need to bring their relationship back down to earth if they actually want to go the distance
* After nearly five blissful years together, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are still going strong, and it looks like a baby could be in their near future -- Sam recently sent tongues wagging when he revealed that he wants to take their relationship to the next step and be a young dad and Britney is totally on board because she has always wanted another child and now with Sam raring to go, she figures it's the perfect time -- growing her family would be a welcome distraction from Britney's bitter battle with her father Jamie Spears over her controversial conservatorship
* Love Bites -- Jenni "JWoww" Farley and Zack Carpinello engaged, Morena Baccarin and husband Ben McKenzie welcomed a son named Arthur, Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata married
Page 32: Cover Story -- Palace in Crisis -- the Royal Family is in disarray following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell tell-all -- what really offended them was how much Harry and Meghan said they love Queen Elizabeth in one sentence and attacked the institution, everything she stands for and works for, in the next -- it's going to take a miracle for Harry to reconcile with his family after what he and Meghan revealed
In Case You Didn't Know
(Based off In Case You Didn't Know by Brett Young)
Summary: Shawn's so in love with you, but he doesn't know how to say it.
A/n: this is all over the place, theres time jumps and flashbacks and no real distinction between them, so yeah. I actually really like this song and I might end up writing some more stories based off songs, so let me know if you want that.
Requested: no
Warnings: just fluff
I can't count the times / I almost said what's on my mind / but I didn't
She's sleeping soundly on the couch, head laying on the arm rest, blanket up to her shoulders. She's absolutely beautiful, I think to myself. Her hair falls messily in her face, lips parted with a soft snore, and even though she's covered, I know her arms are wrapped around her middle in an attempt to keep warm in this arctic apartment of mine. I make a mental note to turn on the heater after I take her up to bed. She couldnât even make it through half of the movie before her eyes became heavy, and if I was interested in watching the movie, I wouldnât have even noticed, but I was watching her the whole time. Itâs the first time Iâve been able to see her this way, completely exhausted from studying for her exams, hair a mess, face bare and slightly red and blotchy from stress crying.
I want so badly to wake her sleeping figure and tell her to just quit, come on the road with me for the second leg of tour. Iâll take care of everything; Iâll take care of her. Anything she wants, itâs hers, no questions asked. But I canât tell her that. Because no matter how stressed she is now, I know it doesnât change how incandescently happy she is when she talks about her favorite class, her favorite professor. The way she talks about all the things sheâs going to change when she finishes school.
Just the other day / wrote down all the things Iâd say / but I couldnât / I just couldnât
Being with her only a few months, eight to be exact, I keep finding myself refraining from telling her how I feel. And I know that being on tour for six out of the eight months weâve been together is definitely taking a toll on her, and me too. Iâm never here when she needs me, and to see her the way she is right now, I know that I canât keep these feelings from her much longer.
Because if sheâs crying over a test that sheâs about to take when I am here, Iâm scared to know what she cries about when Iâm not. Does she cry about me? About me not being here? When I left before, she held in the tears - so did I - but weâd only been together a month. Maybe she didnât want to seem too attached. I know I didnât, but Brian knows how much leaving her put me in this week long funk. I called and texted her constantly until I realized that doing that only made it even harder to be away from her. So I calmed a bit, not by choice, but by necessity.
Seeing her sleeping so peacefully, now curled in my sheets, hugging my pillow, I canât help but smile. I could write a million songs just about this moments alone, and thatâs exactly what I go back to the living room to do. To write yet another song about the girl in my bed, hoping and praying that sheâll still be there come daybreak.
Baby I know that youâve been wondering / mmm, so here goes nothing / in case you didnât know / baby Iâm crazy âbout you
Sheets of paper litter the top of the piano, the coffee table, literally any surface that was once clear isn't now. I'm scribbling out a new lyric, and start strumming the melody that's been stuck in my head since she fell asleep next to me.
My mind is a jumbled mess. She has me feeling every possible emotion and I can't convey it in just one song. So every new idea gets written down and I hope I'll find a place for it in another song later. I'm going crazy, my mind working faster than my hand can write, and the song doesn't sound right with the guitar riff, but then it doesn't sound right with the piano. It's all wrong. None of it is good enough for her and I need it to be good enough.
And I would be lying if I said that I could live this life without you / even though / I don't tell you all the time / You had my heart a long, long time ago / in case you didn't know
I know it hasn't even been a year and I sound like a love sick puppy. And that if you ask anyone that doesn't know me personally, they'd say that this relationship is all for show. That I'm doing it for the publicity. That she's getting paid. None of it's true.
She's everything I have ever wanted. Ever needed. And its so hard for me to think back to even just nine months ago. I wonder how I did anything before her. How did I cope with my anxiety when she wasn't there coaxing me through it, lulling me back to reality and not the fucked up place my mind always wandered to?
If I can't think back to nine months ago, before she became my everything, how am I supposed to look forward and not see her in every possible situation that I could be put it?
The way you look tonight / that second glass of wine / that did it, mmm
Dinner at her apartment is everything. Except she won't let me actually cook. She's scared I'll burn the building down. Which, to be fair, could very well happen. So I'm only allowed to cut things, and of course pour her wine. She's stirring the rice while I sit at the little bar area, head resting in my hand while I stare lovingly at her. Her cheeks are slightly pink from both the heat from the stove and from the glass of red she's sipping from.
"You're staring," she says softly, and looks over at me.
I clear my throat and look down at my half empty glass, "Sorry. Can't help it. You're just so pretty."
She looked down at her outfit, and squinted skeptically at me. "Jeans and a two-sizes-too-big flannel? Oh yeah, I'm sure I look real cute," she replies sarcastically, with a disbelieving eye roll.
"You do," I say, matter-of-factly. "With you hair pulled up like that," I gesture to pony tail that was currently falling because she didn't wrap the rubber band around enough. "And your eyes just being as beautiful and bright as ever. How could I not stare at you forever?"
This causes her to become even more red, if that's possible, and I pull out my phone, swiftly snapping a picture of her because she is just so pretty and I want to see her like this forever.
"Stop it!" She whines, turning away from me.
"But you look so cute," I say, turning my phone around so she can see the vibrant blush on her cheeks.
She just shakes her head and takes another sip. I can't help but watch the way her lips curve around the lip of the glass, and my whole body tingles at the promise of those lips touching mine later.
There was something 'bout that kiss/ girl it did me in / got me thinking / I've been thinking
I pull her body close to mine when she puts the dishes in the sink. "Thank you for tonight," I mumble into her shoulder.
She hums and her hands cover mine on her stomach. "You're welcome bub. So glad you could make some time for a meal this week. I was starting to think you didn't eat," she says teasingly.
I manage a small apology, pressing my lips to the soft skin of her collar bone. I know I've been literally everywhere but with her this week and it's been killing me. But even just a night like this was enough to make me forget about all my stress up to this point.
She turns her head to face me and plays with my currently overfluffy curls. "I adore you, my little rockstar," she whispered into my hair.
I look up at her with a sleepy smile and hooded eyes. I only have a second to react before her lips press to mine in a soft, passionate kiss. And all I can think is that I could stay this way for the rest of my life and never get tired of the feel of her lips.
One of those things that I've been feeling / mmm, it's time you hear 'em
I'm still watching her as we wash the dishes together. She's washing, I'm drying. It's the simplest of systems, but it's also so domesticated and it makes me sad knowing that I can't give her that domestic life one day. Husband a d kids, nice suburban home to come to every night. I'm traveling too often to give her that simple life that she so desperately deserves, even though she's told me before that she doesn't care about that.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asks after washing the last plate, handing it to me. I smile sheepishly at the way she's leaning against the counter, one leg crossed in front of the other, hands playing with the neck of her shirt.
I finish drying the plate before I speak. I place the towel I was holding on the counter and reach for her hands. "Can I tell you something, pumpkin?"
You've got all of me / I belong to you / yeah you're my everything / in case you didn't know
"Anything," she squeezes my hands reassuringly.
I can't look into her eyes, so I stare at our linked hands and sigh contently at the feel of her small, soft, cold hands in my large, calloused, hot hands. I don't know why telling her this is so hard for me, it shouldn't be. I write about love all the time.
But I've never felt it. Not like this. Not when my heart feels like it's literally about to burst out of my chest when she smiles at me. Not when I can't help but stumble on my way to her because I'm staring so hard that I trip over my own feet. Not when an interviewer asks me what my favorite thing about going home is and my immediate thought is her. She's my home. Whether we live together or not. She's it. She's my everything and that's fucking terrifying. I never thought I would become this dependent on someone else.
"Bub, what's going on inside that beautiful head of yours?" She asks, breaking me from my own thoughts, trying to catch my eye.
I swallow the lump forming in my throat and finally meet her intense gaze. If I had to decipher what that look meant, I'd say she was looking at me the same way I look at her. With that endless amount of love, lust, compassion, and adoration that my expression hopefully conveys. Why she chose me of all the people to be with, I'll never know. But she did. So I say it.
"I love you," I finally manage to say, but it's so low I don't even know if she heard me.
She doesn't respond for a while and I'm searching her face for any sign that it'll give me, saying that I crossed a line, that we weren't ready. But just as I'm opening my mouth to apologize, her lips cover mine, tongue slipping effortlessly into my mouth. And I hold her body tight against me, so tight I don't think she can breathe properly, but she makes no move to leave my arms and I have no intention of letting her go. So I hold her while we kiss under the harsh light of her kitchen and I let out a low whimper when she goes to ultimately pull away.
"Say it again," she begs.
And I do, kissing her cheek. "I love you." Her nose, "I love you." Her forehead, "I love you." And finally, once again. Her lips. "I love you."
She sighs, eyes fluttering shut while her fingers trace my jaw and then the curves of my mouth, my nose. "I love you, too." She kisses both of my eyelids before she says it again. "I love you so much."
