Quincunx / Inconjunction
Older Repost from my Reddit Account.
So, the quincunx or inconjunction (150°) is an aspect seldomly looked at or discussed -
Partly because it's considered a so-called minor aspect. Partly because there isn't too much free info out there and many people today and in this forum learn astrology as a hobby and not from professional courses or expensive books.
After learning about the major aspects (conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition) in the beginning of my studies, I found the quincunx to be one of the most important minor aspects. It plays out in natal charts, synastry and by transit, and can be quite noticable if the orb is tight (usually 0-5 °+/-, depending on the planets involved).
This is why I felt like discussing this aspects a bit more in-depth here.
--
--
Irreconcilable differences
I feel like the nature of the quincunx is bit of a mix between the opposition and the square:
The signs involved will usually not have anything in common, which creates friction (square) and contrariety (oppositon). An inconjunction will happen between signs of utterly different nature (i.e. Aries vs. Virgo; Taurus vs. Saggitarius; Aquarius vs. Cancer).
The difference is that with the square, the signs still have the same modality (cardinal - fix - mutable), and with the opposition the signs have the same polarity (masculine (fire/air) - feminine (earth/water)) - when it comes to the inconjunction, however, there are no such shared basic traits. They want different things, they do things differently and they have a differing world view and opinion on how things are, should be and should be done. Thus, the nature of the inconjunction is one of irreconcilability.
--
Being blind to the other but disturbed, nevertheless
This irreconcilability, from my personal experience, plays out in a way that the planets involved just don't "manage" to create a common ground where their energies mix in a constructive way - it's either -, or. My way or the highway.
With the Moon - Saturn quincunx, for example, this could translate to at times being either extremely emotional (Moon), or extremely sober (Saturn). It's hard for you to have an inner "parent" (Saturn) who gives you stability and a rational approach when you feel emotionally lost (Moon). The way your Saturn works just doesn't help your Moon in any way and will, most likely, put even more pressure on it. On the other hand, when you are "using" your Saturn your Moon's neediness might get in the way of your accomplishments and work ethics (Saturn). Or, you being logical, strucured and accomplishing things, you may sometimes forget your or other people's emotions.
In general, your inner Saturn has a hard time understanding and nurtuting your Moon's emotional needs and might even damage your Moon's sensitivity while your Moon doesn't really help out your Saturn either. It will be emotionally overwhelming, getting in it's way instead of fusing with Saturn's energy in a helpful manner.
Basically, the planets involved will be getting in each other's way but be unable to cooperate.

Issues with Timing, Synchronicity and Approach
In a relationship, when two planets are in quincunx (let's use two Marses here), you will most likely have active Mars energy at different times. So, when one feels energized and ready to go (Mars), the other person might not feel up to the mood. They may even feel stressed and over-whelmed by the other person's active energy. Then, another time, the same thing happens - just the other way around. You just don't seem to have the same "timing".
This can also partly be explained by experiencing the same transits at the same time but of a very different nature (for instance, one being trined by a transit planet while the other one is being squared).
Also, planets in quincunx to each other have completely different approaches that work for them. Virgo needs attention to detail, structure, diligence and moral integrity to succeed while Aquarius (quincunx sign) needs open-mindedness, the breaking of tradition and freedom. Aries (the other quincunx sign) works best when it’s instinctual, fast and unapologetic. They basically cramp each other’s style.

Overcoming Adversity and Potential for Learning and Growth
In all fairness, anything can be "overcome". I did focus on the negatives of the quincunx in this article. By no means I would say that this is all there is to it. There is learning and growth potential. There is potential for learning acceptance ("agree to disagree"). And/ or even learning from the other, after all.
And taking up the Virgo-Aqua-Aries example, you can still find a bit of a common ground. All of those signs harbor a sense of self-reliance and self-sufficiency. You can find this with every quincunx dynamic. Even if you have to become creative and bend over backwards, every sign will eventually have a common denominator, however small or unlikely it may be.
Also, the quincunx signs are basically able to present each other's shadows (similar to how the sister signs (oppositions) work. Virgo lacks Aries’ spontaniety and natural self-confidence. Aries lacks Virgo’s patience and consideration. Aquarius can learn a great deal from Virgo’s persistence and sensibility while a more Aquarian approach would help Virgo not to get stuck in a rut or lost in pedantry.
Even if the signs aren't "meant to meet", it's never impossible to learn from each other and to honor everyone's uniqueness and talents, in order to honor every piece that makes up the divine whole that is the zodiac and thus, the whole and perfect Universe.

--
Do you have Quincunxes and how do feel about them?
--
--
I might do another post, explaining the "irreconcilable difference" betweeen the quincunx signs (including all 12 signs and not just a few examples) as well as their hidden common denominator.

Chart First Impressions: Mingyu
For more SVT astrology posts, follow my blog! Check out my masterlist to see all the readings I’ve done so far and what I’ve got coming up! 💫
These are just the first impressions I had to all of their charts – the parts that popped out to me as being notable, things I personally liked, things I thought were interesting or contrary to the image I have of them. Things like that. I’m not looking at anything in particular with each reading. Some of their readings may be more aspect focused, where some may just focus solely on their personal planets. If you have any questions on specific aspects or want to request a more specific reading, feel free to send me an ask!
i’m in love with his energies.
he reeks of reliability and stability yet there’s a yielding aspect to him thanks to that pisces influence.
but then you wrap it up in this super adorable and earnest aries package and — *chefs kiss*
he has a very nice mix of cardinal, fixed, and mutable influences.
cardial aries, fixed taurus, and mutable pisces and virgo.
so with that he tends to inherently understand when to be impulsive, when to push through, and when to let go which brings a lot of ease and comfort to even his more “difficult” placements.
this wont be immediately apparent as kids do dumb things regardless of their astrology placements, but he will certainly grow into the comfort and versatility of his chart over time.
his chart manages to read both incredibly active yet super calming.
his aries and virgo make him antsy, he wants to constantly be doing something and can be very impulsive with his attention.
at the same time there’s that earth and water influence that allows him to relax, and can be a very grounding factor to a group like svt that have a tendency towards overworking themselves out of necessity to their over active minds
honestly i think his chart is very balanced, he doesn’t lean towards any kind of extremes but his chart is very interesting and unique in that sense, too.
his energies all kind of tend to either amplify or add complexity to each other.
virgo vs aries vs pisces vs taurus
there’s a lot of youth, impulsivity, and passion here as well as a great deal of dedication, stubbornness, precision, and attentiveness.
and not to mention a lot of sincerity and compassion beneath it all.
he’s actually the only member of svt to NOT have any of his personal planets in an air sign which could mean a lot of things.
from an outsider’s perspective, meeting him would give a strong immediate impression.
his presence is less interpreted and more experienced.
there’s less of an intellectual/verbal filter and he isn’t guided solely by intellectual connection and expression.
he’ll be the guy you notice because he carries himself a certain way, or because he laughs a certain way. maybe he’s touchier than others, or talks a certain way.
he just naturally and silently carries more presence where as the other members make themselves known verbally.
if you’ve seen them live, i think this definitely shows in him.
when they’re running around stage doing their own thing, the others are more than likely goofing around, doing something very specific that has caught their attention. maybe they’re interacting and joking around with each other.
mingyu, for the most part, doesn’t do that specifically?
he likes making eye contact with people in the audience, finding a random corner and just standing there, looking out, maybe dancing but he’s certainly more in-tune with the energies of the audience.
not to mention how fast he moves???? you lose him so quickly if you aren’t watching his every move, and with that i noticed he really tends to like going against the current of what the others are doing.
i dunno if that could be his lack of air, or just his hyperactive aries kicking in?? i just thought it was super cute.
lmao, but back to specifically his lack of air.
he may also be easier to be around because he doesn’t make you think too hard about what him or others are saying.
he may also struggle in understanding his member’s words vs. intentions.
they may be more literal, more methodical, more logical in their expression where as he is more feeling and emotionally guided.
this can make him extra sensitive as he’s not going with his immediate logic when communicating with them.
he may over/undershoot how literal to take what they’re saying, and how to interpret actions vs words.
this is where he can probably get offended when they joke around because he can’t just let jokes roll right off him like an air sign could.
a naturally competent dude.
aries sun makes him driven, taurus mercury makes him committed and persistent, while virgo mars makes him analytical and detailed.
this explains why you could give him almost anything and he’d probably be either naturally good at it, or will figure it out eventually.
we also know he’s clumsy af
aries influences give people a restless and straight forward energy, meaning he’ll just plow through a room and not look at where he’s going.
that combined with a dreamy pisces moon that’s half conscious half the time and voila you’ve got mingyu.
but how bout his sun and moon.
a lot of people think that fire sun/water moon combos are super difficult when in reality I think they can really compliment each other.
aries suns are masculine, impulsive, childlike, vibrant, ambitious, creative.
pisces moons are feminine, sensitive, intuitive, dreamy, empathetic, creative.
aries is the start of the astrological cycle, and pisces is the end.
and personality wise, these two signs are at complete opposite sides of the spectrum.
aries is incredibly masculine, especially since the sun is exalted in aries.
moon, the emotional and maternal planet, is also very comfortable in pisces.
this explains why we see such a strong dichotomy in his behavior.
between the energetic, manly, childlike mingyu, and the more soft, emotional, and motherly mingyu.
this combo may find him feeling incredibly frustrated and insecure with himself — specifically if he finds he has a hard time building a line of communication between the two.
they can keep each other in check while also running the risk of making each other insecure.
a pisces moon may second guess an aries sun’s instinct to act and participate, which may cause him to overthink and second guess when his aries sun wants to just DO.
then the lack of internal confidences comes from his impulsive aries sun having a hard time communicating to others the part of him that understands the world and the people in it to an almost psychic level through his water moon intuition.
not only that, but the contradictory nature of his internal and external may have a hard time convincing others of his intentions/capabilities.
He needs to learn to trust both his go-getting aries sun, and his thoughtful and intuitive pisces moon and that they are not, in fact, working against each other.
with that, not only will his expression be easier but getting people to trust him and his talents will become seamless as well.
his aries sun is a sociable and determined guy and that will naturally attract people, then you add in that pisces fluidity that gives him this sense of empathy and understanding and general skill at reading people, all mixed with his earth competence.
he’s a very magnanimous guy, and once he finds a way to make his energies work for him, people will naturally be drawn to him.
you feel taken care of around him.
generally, i think that a fire and water combo can be incredibly complimentary with time, patience, and a lot of encouragement.
mainly cuz his aries sun is present and active when the pisces moon isn’t, and the pieces moon is introspective and observant when his aries sun isn’t.
aries is persistent and demanding, while pisces is mutable and compassionate.
and where these two influences meet are in creativity — which is why he’s sooo artistically talented.
he’s such a sincere, kind guy.
there isn’t anything blocking him from connecting with the people he meets.
it’s easy for him to put himself out there, and it’s easy for him to accept/nurture emotion.
he may be shy and awkward at times, but that’s him overthinking it and his pisces moon simply enjoying being comfortable and safe by himself.
but once he’s put in social or emotional situations, he’s a natural.
there is just such an endearing sense of innocence with this placement that must be protected.
he puts on a front of being stubborn, bold, and forceful but is actually incredibly impressionable and trusting.
pisces moons have a habit of being dependent and delusional, that combined with an aries all-or-nothing attitude and a love for adventure and unique experiences can be dangerous if he were to meet the wrong people.
pisces moons will take everything to heart and have a hard time hiding if they’re hurt, all the while aries suns are hot-headed and quick to react.
long story short: just be nice to him he’s doing his best.
