please please please do NOT give up on medicating your adhd because you have a bad experience during your first attempts. finding the right medication/dosage combo takes trial and error, but it can feel like a MIRACLE once you do.
Being medicated isn’t for everyone, but it is a powerful tool in our toolbox. and I am seeing way too many people giving up that option prematurely, because they are unware that:
there are different medication options. they do not all have the same side effects, and not all are amphetamines
dosage matters. if you are discontinuing bc of side effects, consider trying a lower dose first
some side effects will balance out after the first few weeks if you stick with it. you are looking for a longterm solution, so give it time.
a good doctor will be willing to work with you to find a regime that works
finding the right meds/dosage combo will take trial and error. and it will be worth it once you do.
#not a shitpost#serious post#actuallyadhd#adhd#i'm 'pro-medication' not in that i think everyone with adhd needs to be medicated#but i think a TON of us would be happier and more functional if we were on the right medication/dosage combo#unfortunately that is SUCH an individual thing that it can be burdensome to figure out just what that IS#this combined w/ healthcare hurdles mean that many of us give up prematurely on finding a regime that works#both bc of how frustrating the process is#AND bc you just aren't aware of the IMMENSE AND OUTRAGEOUS DIFFERENCE being properly medicated can make#not until you've experienced it yourself#seriously it is the mental equivalent of putting on a pair of glasses after years of walking around in a fog#and then you realize HOLY SHIT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE THE WHOLE TIME?#I'VE BEEN WALKING AROUND BUMPING INTO THING AND YOU BASTARDS COULD FUCKING SEE????#THIS IS WHAT CLARITY LOOKS LIKE??????#anyway if you aren't medicated bc of bad experiences in the past#please be aware there are other options that can make a ridiculously big difference#and also things like maturity/weight gain/time/health changes can mean that you'll tolerate medication better now than in the past#anyway if adhd is affecting your life and ability to do the things you want#i really recommend at least talking to your doctor about trying a low dose of something

Make sure you get the right dosage for sure!
My neurologist put me on straterra at first, but it was like 50mg and it made me faint. (Too high a dosage)
She then put me on 30mg of vyvanse and I love it. Please be careful if you’re an abuser or around people that would abuse it.
I have MS and terrible brain fog. My Neurologist had me take these meds it help that.
