"DAUGHTER" is such a SONG and I have not gotten over how Beyonce just wove in a 17th century Italian aria?
so like the thing about "Caro mio ben," is that practically every novice vocalist learns to sing it. it's from these anthologies that a 2X Italian Songs and Arias and every voice student learns at least 2 or 3 of these because they are certified good pedagogical tools for learning vocal technique. which means every single person who studied voice (classical or musical theater or just took some voice lessons in high school) has heard this aria.
and it is a pretty little song. it's nice to sing. I learned it when i was a college freshman and learning how to use my instrument. and i am just obsessed that Beyonce Knowles Carter has absolutely taken the same kind of training (because she wouldn't still be wailing if she didn't) learned this little Italian aria from some long forgotten opera by some long forgotten composer, and decided that she liked it so much she would throw it in her country album, and in her country album's MURDER track.
like, she took two of the best women country Genre Songs: Goodbye Earl & Jolene, and merged them to create GOODBYE JOLENE, and she just peppered in this Italian. which may be a reference to "choir boys and altars" but "Caro mio ben" is entirely secular and not sacred at all, which makes it a curious choice, especially since she's used Schubert's Ave Maria in one of her songs before! ("Ave Maria" on I Am Sasha Fierce). actually the text of Caro mio ben roughly translates to
Believe me, my love, when we're apart from each other, my heart languishes. I am faithful to you but I'm always sighing, cease being cruel! it's too much pain!
so it's less about evoking holiness and more about the emotional depth behind the story this and the couple songs preceding it are telling. like!!! crimes of passion! yeehaw! italian!!! she did that!
Queen B is nuts and a classical music girlie and I love her for this. ARTISTE!!!!!

What musicals (current or past) would you like to see? And cast albums that are on your list to listen to?
ANON, I LOVE THIS QUESTION SO MUCH! THANK YOU!
so, the ones i really want to see at the moment (i'm not sure if you mean live or just bootlegs, but let's say both) &/or listen to (this is gonna be super chaotic i apologize in advance):
hadestown with jordan & lola, please... i love hadestown, i love eva & reeve but JORDAN & LOLA! 😭 they are something else, ok?
i am literally dying to see waitress live & i know it's possible in poland, so maybe this year?
hamilton, but for that i have to visit my sister in the uk
tick tick boom, because i only saw the movie, i wanna see the play as well
new york, new york because i was obsessively listening to the cast album last year so it's time to finally watch it
preludes, but i don't think this will ever happen, there are literally no recordings of that one & i am obsessed with the album... (let me just say dave malloy is criminally underrated)
anastasia is actually first on my list cause i haven't seen/listened to it yet
you guys are gonna hate me for this, but i haven't seen/listened to wicked yet... i always thought that maybe it's not exactly my thing but i also feel like i need to give it a try, cause it's a classic that everybody loves
i wanna see the great comet live please that would cure my broken soul (or just give me the bootleg with phillipa soo lol i don't think it exists)
i also need to listen to the rest of dave malloy's musicals, cause i only listened to those you can find on spotify (so ghost quartet, the great comet, preludes & octet - would love to see all of them live, especially ghost quartet, that would be an experience) - clown bible is first on my list
once - i've never seen the movie or the play but i absolutely love the song falling slowly from it so i guess i would love the musical as well
camelot with phillipa soo, because she's my wife & i would die for her
but also into the woods with phillipa soo because i couldn't find it anywhere & i don't even know if it was ever recorded
from the new ones i'd really love to see the notebook cause i've heard a lot of good things about it & i also love the movie so i bet the musical must be really good
also, the great gatsby with eva noblezada... my second wife. i really, really need to see this one
...those are just off the top of my head, but i am always open for suggestions, if you think i should watch/listen to something cause i may like it, just let me know!

Man.
#it's the else day of my tmbg album a day challenge which plunged me right back into my previous the else fixation state of mind#the grip this album had on me for the first few months of 2023 is truly something#but goddamn even now i'm just still shocked by how good this album is!!!!!!#and to think that it's often put in the category of their 00s 'slump' period (meanwhile i absolutely love the other 00s albums#and find them just as fun and interesting and clever etc as anything else but thats a whole different topic)#and even speaking less from personal preference towards this type of music and more generally#it's got to be one of their most sonically consistent albums. and maybe the fact#that some songs might be considered a bit less distinctly theirs you know. but more like just your regular rock songs. maybe. more 'normal'.#could be its weakness that i don't really see *as* a weakness here. i think a big part of the draw of this album for me#is how it has this completely separate identity from their other albums (even just other 21st century stuff)#it's 'edgier' but not really dark. ofc there's also the political side of it that weights on the mood of the whole thing#but all the while it has this sort of whimsical atmosphere that makes it even sort of fairytaleish in a way#but maybe with a dark twist? BUT ofc still doing it all in the tmbg way. so it's very unique!!!! and also absolutely awesome and rocking!!!#petition for the band to bring withered hope back into their live repertoire. or anything besides the mesopotamians PLEEEEASE!!#it would be so awesome with the horns....#very not completely normal about this album still. awesome#anyway it's midnight currently and i have to get up sort of early so i'm shutting up now#goosepost#Spotify

Shine (1984) is a good album and I don't care that it didn't chart as well as Something's Going On (1982) I like them both. Not every song is perfect but enough of them are fun enough to make all of it thoroughly enjoyable.

The Krishna theme❤️
The wedding sequence was actually so beautiful.
I didn't focus on the music during kalki's part because how did I not know it was kailash Kher. That was haunting.
Eeram had a theme too😞 I was crying over Sanya's performance and her story alone.
I really need to watch the movie again. OTT release please 🥺
They really said cried enough, here's your MASSY MASSY MASSY YO HO whatever. It's a vibe for sure.
Mis Chicas is cute. Love that it actually translates to the girl gang's story basically.
Vikram Rathore gets a personalised theme just because he's Vikram Rathore. Man really dilfed hard in this.
