My music video review ~vol.1~
※I recommend reading the link below before reading the review. https://www.tumblr.com/aruz11/743804475824914432/this-is-the-first-post?source=share
Title: U.N.Owen was Tidus?
Post date: 24 Nov 2008
length: 5:04
song: U.N.Owen was her?+Last Brutal Sister Flandre S (Touhou series)
youtube
As I mentioned on Youtube before, I review my past videos here. This time I review the first video named U.N.Owen was Tidus?, uploaded 24 Nov 2008. some people might feel nostalgic.I decided that I would always start with this video when starting a review. Because this is my debut work and it's a special video. Now, let's begin.
About the song
I explain why I used these songs for my first video. There are two reasons. The first is because I'm Touhou series fan and I liked these songs. There are two songs used in this video, and I found both of them appealing.I had a strong desire to use both U.N.Owen was her?, which has a somewhat quiet yet devilish atmosphere, and Last Brutal Sister Flandre S, which has a high tempo and aggressive impression.I was excited to create this video, wondering what kind of video I could create by combining these two songs and FFX.The second reason is that both songs were popular as music video songs at the time, and many music videos using these songs were uploaded, so there were many samples that can be used as reference.
Features of this video
About the audio, as I mentioned in my first post, I've been making remixes by incorporating voice clips into music. This approach has not changed since the debut. Basically, I have a policy of not reusing the same voice clips within the same video as much as possible when making sound. Because, I find enjoyment in using a variety of voice clips. However, in this video, there are several scenes where the same voice clips is repeated. This is due to the limitations of my skill. It was hard for me to work with other voice clips effectively, resulting in repeated editing of the same voice clips. Nevertheless, looking at it now, this style doesn't seem bad at all.
Next, let's talk about the visuals. The video editing in this video reflects a completely different style from my debut days to the present. When watching this video, it reminds me that I used to frequently employ left-right flips in the visuals. About effects, regardless of whether they were suitable for the scene or not, I used anything just to have something. It suggests that I prioritized impetus over editing technique and precision. Unlike the audio, it seems like I didn't put as much thought into the visuals and created them. This video could be considered closer to the YTPMV/otomad than AMV/GMV, especially in terms of its style.
My favorite scenes
0:00~ My pilgrimage began with this scene. I'll never forget it.
1:30~1:36 I think the scenes where Tidus calls out the names of his comrades were matched with both the dialogue and the music.
3:56~4:05 I’m not gonna let Yuna die! I’m telling you, she won’t die! → Really? → Of course. → You’re a bad liar. → Ahhhhhh!
That's all for now. Thank you for visiting. See you next time.

2015 comes in on the touhou community to drop the bombshells that are Urban Legend in Limbo and Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom. No miss no bomb score chasers and lunatic players had no idea what they were getting into and the fanon takes a massive hit. No one was ready for this.
This post bleeds quite a bit into 2016 as well. A lot of fanworks started adjusting interpretations and I was simply lost in the sauce. So anyway, here's my findings:
A new ship sails with Mokou and Sumireko due to their interactions in ULiL. Kaguya ain't happy about it.
I've noticed Raiko (and by extension, the Tsukumo sisters) be commonly depicted with tattoos. I don't know if this is a reference to something or if it's just inspired by metal/rock bands.
Wakasagihime gets some of the saddest works I've seen centered around one character in a while. She goes from being a part of a comedic trio to a lot of social trauma.
Sekibanki gotta be one of the funniest touhou characters of all time.
Seiran totally never killed someone! It's just paste! Don't worry about it!
Ringo collapses the instant she stops eating dango.
At this time Junko was not harassing Reisen at all! In fact, in most works I saw they actually somewhat got a long. Enjoy it while it lasts Reisen.
Junko commonly mistakes Seiga and Kaguya as Chang'e.
What if you place other sphere-like objects on Hecatia's head? A lot of works run with this joke.
For obvious reasons, Clownpiece tends to use a lot of english words or speak entirely in katakana
We are at peak psycho Koishi hours. Koishi getting a knife was all that was needed for this fanon interpretation to take over a while. Koishi's Heart Throbbing Adventure is no longer the main inspiration.
Sagume tends to have a very close relationship with Doremy since in many fanworks, her ability doesn't work in the Dream World so Doremy is a character she can freely talk to.
Tsukumo sisters have fallen under the Aki sisters routine of butting into a situation just so they can be involved.
The Tsukumos also seem to have their dynamic flipped for some reason. Benben would be crazy and Yatsuhashi would be cool-headed. Weird.
Kosozu is now an incident magnet and sometimes enjoys it.
Momiji's sword seems to keep getting smaller every year, I remember when she always had a buster sword.
Tojiko has been suppressing her anger as a vengeful spirit, but this also means if she does get mad, all of that anger comes out at once as lightning. The entire UFO and TD crew have to balance antagonizing each other, but not pissing off Tojiko.
Seija now has a mom. (It's Sagume).
Junko is very nice to the fairies
Tewi gets presented as a badass a lot around this time. Maybe she doesn't want Seiran to show her up.
Sumireko knows who Maribel and Renko are (this is not the case in canon...I think.)
Lots of Watatsuki sisters content here, although they're mostly used for catching up with the Eientei gang.
Lunarians can't resist filthy Earth food. It's just too good....well....at least until Sagume accidentally says it out loud.
Kokoro just wants to fight people, she'll use any justification. It's practically how she talks to others.
Hecatia becomes the weird t-shirt girl thanks to Sanae's dialogue in LoLK. She'll never live this down.
As usual, for a lot of the established touhou cast, their fanon portrayals don't change too much. However, the status quo was greatly shifted by the Lunarians. Eientei becomes more of a plot point in many doujins now and that is much different to how it has been for a while.
Bit of a side note, but I really like how a lot of doujins gave Junko a wide-eyed, but empty stare at all times. Really reinforces how broken of a mental state she must be in despite keeping up a casual conversation with most characters.
I feel this is around the time when there was a bit of a resurgance in touhou fans. Not that it was dying out, but much of the fan content did not focus on newer characters nearly as much as this year was.
#touhou#touhou fanon years#fanon#2015#2016-ish#legacy of lunatic kingdom#Urban Legend in Limbo#this took so long lmaooo#Was hoping for more Seiran and Ringo content than what we got. They just kinda filed in with the other rabbits#doujin

random trivia and commentary on my fanfics while i still remember them o_O
I was just thinking I should type these up while I still remember them. Who knows when my memory of these random details might suddenly just fade! Its because i keep having to make room in my brain for uni things (that i won’t retain :P)
I had hoped to do all of them in one post, but i ended up typing more than I’d realise, so maybe each will get one post, who knows... This post is only gonna cover my first fic though, and the others will come later...
What Drives Us To Celebrate (Psst... You can read it here or here)
so when i suddenly decided ‘i really want to write touhou fanfiction, what should the first one be’, it didn’t take long at for me to be realise it had to focus on the taoists from ten desires.
My earliest and most fondest memories of consuming like touhou doujins and fanworks were a whole bunch of stories centered around the taoists and interpretations of their backstories or how they knew each other in the past. A lot of them were done by jizeru (or giselebon as their website is named) which combined a really cute artstyle with stories that were always just my perfect kind of sweet and melancholic. (though some of the last works they kinda veer into questionable territory regarding the yorigami sisters? like i really hope i’m just reading too much into it -_-).
Not only that, but also my other oldest memories of being weirdly and really taken aback by artwork and doujin was cercis/cis/lots of other names of carcharias, even if i didn’t necessarily like every direction of their doujins (sorry thannie, but i still have fond memories of ‘tojiko will not talk’ despite a lot of weirdness in the latter half :P)
the point of all that is that i had and still have a special connection to ten desires and that’s not even getting into the few years i spent running a kaku seiga roleplay blog among others, and i wanted to somehow express that even in a small kind of way. I don’t remember how or why exactly i came into the premise, but i had a good feeling that i wanted it to be about Tojiko from the start. Its a weirdly heartwarming story to me, to think how the taoist group in present manages to get along and care for one another despite whatever hundreds of dysfuntions and hangups, and Tojiko is maybe the best example of that, having literally died but rolling with it. Oh, but there’s no doubt i was also heavily inspired by another story starring Tojiko which really spoke to me, one centered specifically about her time spent waiting in a dark tomb for her peers to awaken. that story was called Those Who Would Cheat Death by mimic teruyo (its good!) and i liked it so much that I had to start using my fanfiction account for something!! (I mean i had made it only a month before reading it, but i hadn’t done much of anything with it except leave a single review o_O
So anyway, as for the story i wrote itself... I knew very early on that it would be about Tojiko questioning her happiness, and then ultimately conclude that life is plenty good with her weird friends :) Such a relatively personal kind of problem meant it needed a pretty low-stake conflict (”what to do for a birthday!?”), which feels in spirit of a lot of those old favourite doujins of mine which mixed strong emotions with down-to-earth situations. Its also pretty true to touhou itself, I think? Also Mamizou was the perfect person to make things more complicated, what with being from the opposing group and also debuting in TD! She’s also nice enough that i can believe none of them would mind inviting her to a party after all is said and done n_n
That all said, the big objective of the story was just to quickly establish how Tojiko may feel about her fellow taoists. Although the premise leans more towards about being about Miko, I probably had more interest into giving insight about Tojiko’s feelings on Seiga, and of course the climax is her coming to a head with Futo. I did try and hope that every single one of them got sufficient time to show off their personalities (Sorry, Yoshika. maybe another day for you...)
Despite that being the subject of the climax though, the finer details are left incredibly vague in favour of just focusing on the emotions. I admit the big reason for this is as much as I love the ideas and dynamic raised by the possibilty of Futo being the one responsible for Tojiko’s ghostiness, I’ve... never actually settled or committed to one solid idea of how and why it happened, and I wasn’t ready to commit to one even for the sake of this story! Maybe it’s a bit too bold to say that doesn’t actually matter to me, haha... I think it worked out okay, though!? And like the story says, the past isn’t that important :P!
I am absolutely not finished writing about the taoists though. If there’s absolutely any group of characters I will have more than one story to want to tell, its them.
#making a tag for these because i think i will make a routine of doing these for every story i write including any new ones i do in future#i mean. assuming i ever write any more. its been over a year since the last one >_>#writing

Just Wanted to Do 10 Fandoms, 10 Characters
Nobody tagged me but I saw one while scrolling and just felt the want to gush about 10 different characters (plus it said anyone who wanted to who wasn’t tag could, so that’s enough of an invitation for me!). In no particular order:
1. Arbiter Thel ‘Vadam from Halo
I love a bunch of Sangheili characters, and if the rule wasn’t “10 different fandoms”, half the list would just be them. But there’s one that just rises above the rest (funny, given he’s actually shorter).
2. Penny Polendina from RWBY
Ever since Volume 7, Penny’s quickly become my favorite RWBY character. Maybe it’s because of everything that happened in that volume, or starting a found family crossover fic with her as the focus, or something else. Either way - four episodes in, and I’m already worried about what the writers have planned for her this volume!
3. Entrapta from She-Ra: Princesses of Power
Probably the most recent favorite out of everyone on the list - she’s half the reason I finally started watching She-Ra (the only half was Catradora)! Not finished with the show (last I had time to binge, I finished season 3) yet, but I doubt anyone’s gonna take the “favorite character” medal away from her. Probably biased, because I am autistic and firmly believe she’s at least coded.
4. Paarthurnax from Skyrim
I like several named dragons from Skyrim, but Paarthurnax gets the honor of being on the list. Is it maybe convenient that a lot of his story arc mirrors Thel? Perhaps. I also attached to Sissel’s dialogue about her dragon dream immensely, despite knowing it probably meant nothing to Bethesda.
5. Sachiko Shinozaki from Corpse Party
I have a soft spot for ghost kids in horror stories, and Sachiko’s probably the epitome of that. She’s fun as a villain, has a nice balance between childish and mature that I like to see played around with, although you also can’t help but feel bad she ended up that way. You can tell she’s one of my favorites because she’s one of my go-to characters in multi-fandom crossovers (Thel also being one!).
6. Gajeel Redfox from Fairy Tail
Pretty sure Gajeel was the first time it really hit me that I liked reformed antagonists. I can’t even explain why he became my favorite (same for some of the other characters on this list, actually). It was just nice to see his arc develop over the series - his personal growth, his budding romance, his dynamics with others. (Also yes, I liked Fairy Tail, dunno why that’s such a controversial opinion in the anime community.)
7. Rattlesnake Jake from Rango
Speaking of antagonists! I know I just said I really like reformed antagonists, but villains without a redemption arc are good, too. Especially in Jake’s case, where you see he still has his own code; it’s just that, his own code. And let’s be honest. Rattlesnake with a gattling gun on his tail? He has only 10 minutes of screen time and he stole the whole damn movie. If they never make Rango 2, I really hope they at least make a Rattlesnake Jake spin-off.
8. Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy
Looking through the entries on this list, starting to think I just find intense/deep character arcs pretty neat. Rocket’s an a-hole, and usually I do not like a-holes, but he’s also a really interesting case. The MCU has yet to really say much about Rocket’s backstory, but the little crumbs it has given speaks volumes, so when Rocket’s doing his self-sabotaging behavior or talking out his mouth...only negative emotion I really feel is sadness. He tries to act tough, but he probably needs more therapy than Volume 8!Penny or Red!Sachiko.
9. Hakase from Nichijou
If I could put the whole Shinonome household, I would. Their segments were always my favorite part of the episodes just because kid scientist, big sister robot, and talking dad cat. You know how Ouran Host just got a second season announced? Can that happen to Nichijou? Just, please, there’s more manga to cover!
10. Godzilla from the MonsterVerse
‘Nuff said.
And that’s my 10 favorite characters from 10 different fandoms, in no particular order and certainly missing plenty of characters from the same fandoms and different ones. Also tried to keep it varied. Kinda weird actually that I never once brought up-
11. TouHou Project
I. COULDN’T. DECIDE. There are so many good Touhou characters! I really couldn’t narrow it down to one! This is probably a promise that I’m gonna do a 10 favorites post just for TouHou Project.
Anyway, usually people tag 10 others, but I really don’t have the confidence to tag 10. So, uh... @katthescalie show me what you got (if you want).

Hi! I really like your blog. Your analysis posts about ships or other things are really interesting and your gifsets are super cute! I have just finished reading your two anime recommendation posts and I was wondering if you plan to write a third one about the remaining animes you like? I would LOVE to read it.
Hi:) Thank you so much! Haha these were more like “bromance anime recommendations” lists. I’m glad you liked them romances. Here’s part 1 and part 2 :)
14. Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun.
The relationship of the couple in this anime are one of the best on so many levels. They’re one of those “even the darkest part of me can’t hurt you” superior ships. They’re two of the main characters, 2 out 8 of the reincarnated warriors (who are all handsome af haha) that are meant to.. you know… save the world.
They’re both on the verge of death at the beginning and one (Shino) in order to survive agrees to live with a demonic sword inside of him which prevents him from growing old and growing per se (which is really sad for many reasons plus you’ll see him once in his 18-year old body and he’s so gorgeous), the other (Sousuke) takes half of a life from a dog, so he can tranform into it whenever he wants.
The problem is that during all of that Sousuke has split and lost his shadow aka the dark part of himself. His shadow works for the dark side, but all he really wants is Shino. The most amazing thing is that Sousuke loves Shino so much, that even his dark part would never ever hurt him. Like his shadow does some pretty terrible stuff to others like once he has made a deal with a girl so she would gave him her eyes just because Shino has said that they’re pretty lmao (I’m sory but its kinda funny), but he gets so pissed when Shino is hurt. So it’s the same as Akashi & Kuroko and Gauche & Lag: even for the darkest part of him the other one is his weakness.
Also this is one of the animes where LITERALLY the power of gay love saves the world by the end. (p.s. sorry, Genpachi, I love you the most and I know you like Shino too, but your flirting can’t beat such deep feelings lol).
15. Assassination Classroom.
Not gonna spoil anything about plot, so I’ll say it’s about “problematic” kids trying to kill their teacher who has superpowers and that’s it. This anime is full of controversial stuff, like I really questioned things and what’s right or wrong, but one thing for sure is that no matter of what you think about the situation, you will 100% cry at the end. I personally think it’s a kinda happy ending considering all the stuff, but opinions are very different when it comes to this anime.
Now for the ship. Let’s just start with the fact that both Karma and Nagisa have ehhhh… psychological problems haha (but who doesn’t in this anime? lol). So Karma is a sadist (like for real, he likes to get creative with torturing) and I think he’s also a yandere when it comes to Nagisa. He threatens to kill those who even talk bad about Nagisa and once has almost beaten to death those who bullied him (which I didn’t mind tbh lmao). He never does anything if others ask, but when/if Nagisa says “please”, he immediately says yes (which is also funny).
They both are in awe with each other and think the other one is absolutely incredible so it’s like a two-sided fan club. Karma is really scary, but when it comes to Nagisa he can be fluffy af. He also doesn’t care about people much, but Nagisa is his everything. Like the “I give up” moment will melt your heart, that was so cute.
So this is one of those “you’re the only exception” ships. Bc Karma is a person who will enjoy skinning ppl alive, but when he’s with Nagisa he likes to hug, pick him up and coo about Nagisa’s height, play tag, discuss his fav movies and tickle fight. I’m like… I’m just this is great.
16. Bungou Stray Dogs.
This one is about a detective agency where everyone has superpowers who are “enemies” with the mafia group where everyone has superpowers, but actually they’re all friends and half of the detective agency date the mafia xD (I’m sorry, but it’s the truth). Like I still don’t get why they won’t just make one organization, this is getting ridiculous.
I’m not a huge fan of the anime per se tbh, because like it has way too many characters who I can’t even feel for cause supposedly they’ve had a dramatic past, but what past nobody tells, so I like can’t empathize to someone who’s an asshole without knowing why he is that way. Plus there’re many characters in animes who have had a horrible childhood/past but are incredible people (hello to Todoroki and Levi). And some characters there for some reason are degrading instead of progressing which is the worst for me. But it’s pretty entertaining to watch if you won’t think much about stuff, powers are cool and it’s drawn beautifully (but there is one scene that was repeated 28 times 28 TIMES!, we’ve counted just for laughs, guess which xD, that’s like.. they could’ve made time for a whole new episode instead of this)
There’s one character whose progression is so incredible though that I’m happy to watch just for him. It’s Akutagawa. He’s like grown so much and I love everything about him, how he went from trying to kill Atsushi to risking his life for him and letting him use rashomon, how he’s homey with his sister and how he’s so good with feeling his powers, how Kyouka tried to kill him and he was like “I’m so glad you’re happy now”. Bitch, like that’s the character progression I’m asking for! Man, he’s just… he’s my favorite, I love seeing many sides of him. He made me so happy in s3 when I was ready to turn it off lmao
So there are two main ships in this anime. Dazai and Chuuya. They are one of those perfect combinations. But not in a usual way you think.. like characteristically. Chuuya’s full power is uncontrollable and the only one who can stop him is Dazai, cause his ability is to nullify other’s abilities, so he’s the only one who can stop Chuuya and also save him from being destroyed by his own power. So basically Chuuya trusts Dazai with his own life when they work together (which is.. I’d be scared if I was in Chuuya’s place lmao). It’s not like I’m scared that Dazai’s gonna let him die or anything, but stuff like “let’s watch a bit longer how Chuuya is going nuts cause it’s funny” doesn’t seem funny to me.
Let’s just say, I do ship them, I think they’d be perfect together if Dazai was like a fanfiction Dazai, you know. But the truth here is firstly their relationships progression is zero to none, like yeah, it’s fun to watch them bicker, but it like won’t give you any deep feelings. Plus Dazai was the most humane and emotional when he was with Oda (which I really don’t get, Oda was a dumbass tbh, like who makes a children shelter while working in MAFIA???! ofc they were fucking killed). Like Oda’s so special for him but then he treats Chuuya and Akutagawa like shit. And he had more feelings for Oda’s matchbox than for Chuuya in the last season. So my heart just won’t lie there fully, you know. Because there are no moments there that indicate like he’s the one for him.
Now to Akutagawa and Atsushi. This is a classic enemies to lovers stuff. Like they go from trying to kill each other to risking their lives for each other. They warm my heart on so many levels. So they’re both struggling to get over of their past and can’t. But then by the end they help each other to let go of their demons, they give each other what others couldn’t. Like I still can’t believe Atsushi came in like a wrecking ball and said the words Akutagawa wanted to hear for ages (his face, his face lol he was like “w-w-what?”). Atsushi himself admitted that Akutagawa is his cure in the last season.
These two are like also hilarious bc they both think that they’re trash so their arguments are like “you’re the best”, “no, you’re the best”. Like Atsushi literally goes “Akutagawa is so strong and amazing, but he still thinks he’s weak” what a bae xD and Akutagawa thinks that he’s nowhere as good as Atsushi so it’s really funny. The relationships progression is like insane. They went from beating each other into a blood puddles to covering each other from bullets and being like “honey, don’t you dare die, I was going to kill you myself” lol
I still can’t believe Akautagawa gave Atsushi rashomon… he was wearing rashomon. I mean his ability, which is a part of him was okay with Atsushi using her. I mean.. maaaaaan fanfiction does come true! And they’re like the representation of yin and yang characteristically and even appereance-wise and I think it’s super cool. Plus the “lawnmower” is the cutest pet name I’ve ever heard lol
Anywho, this anime has like 20 bromances, so pick whichever you like.
Damn, that got long and I’ve only mentioned 3 haha, sorry. That way it’s gonna be like 50 parts xD

All right, now that I got all that ranting off my chest, let’s go for something a little more positive.
See, at it’s heart, this is a fandom blog. Mostly about PMMM, Skyrim, pro wrestling, and sometimes Touhou, but I’m into much more than all that. So hey, why not use it to gush a little about my favorite characters from...pretty much everything?
So yeah, that’s what I’m going to do for the foreseeable future. Post a different character every day and talk about why I love them. Because why the hell not?
And what better way to kick things off than with one that most of you are familiar with and is quite literally the whole reason I’m here? Starting off, we have...
FLANDRE SCARLET!
Okay, little background: like so many western fans, I was introduced to Touhou through the Bad Apple video. Someone from my college’s anime club showed it during the Christmas party one year, and I was entranced. But the part that made me go from “Hey, this is pretty cool!” to “I must know where all of this is from” is Flandre’s little shadow changing grin. You know the one.
What followed was several days of intense googling, as I looked up first the series and then the characters as they appeared in the video, one by one. A lot of time spent on TV Tropes and other wikis followed, and then came getting the games for myself, as well as diving into various pieces of fanwork, followed by a very influential marathon of Nakateeli’s Let’s Play of Touhou Mother, from which I stole a lot.
And then a little idea for a scene stared burrowing into my head, and I kinda wanted to see where it would go. I was reading a lot of other fanfics at the time and wondered if I should give it a shot. So I wrote out the first chapter, threw it up on FF.net to see what would happen, and...well, you know the rest.
But through it all, Flandre was always my favorite.
I mean, she a centuries old vampire stuck with the body and mind of a child with incredible power, a very tenuous grasp on sanity, a stupidly catchy theme, and a kickass design (seriously, those crystal wings are a stroke of genius). How could she not be my favorite? Plus, there is just so many things you can do with a character like that! If you want her to be super cute, you can!
Absolutely terrifying? Got you covered.
Tragic and sympathetic woobie? Simple enough.
Flashy badass? Say no more!
And they all fit right in with canon, I love it!
Naturally, when it came time to include her in Imperfect Metamorphosis, I decided to say fuck it and do all of the above. Yes, she is cute. Yes, she is terrifying. Yes, she is tragic. Yes, she is awesome. That honestly made her so much fun to write for, which was a relief, since your favorite characters in the original series and your favorite characters to write in your fanfic don’t always line up, but in this case it did. And I loved the relationship that developed between her and Rin, which, as I mentioned before, was entirely unplanned but just sort of happened, and I’m glad it did.
So, here’s to the Scarlet Devil Mansion’s dirty little secret, the younger sister of the Scarlet Devil herself, the lonely child that just wants someone to play with but will likely accidentally pop the head of anyone brave enough to try. Here’s to Flandre Scarlet, without whom I wouldn’t even be there, and for that I at least am thankful.
Kyuu~!
p.s. Yes, she is far from the last vampire on this list.

ace hang plays another otome they found online
^ their thumbnail
brid, who plays mmos at night: oh my god she’s so valid
lily, who is small and angry: you’re right she’s so valid
--------
*lily is fortnite dancing in the background*
Brid: Today we’re playing Calling Cipher, a game that Lily found on some random manga creator website, that she really wanted me to mess around with for some reason? She said that the artist did all those manga creator things that her sister likes.
*lily switches to a different fortnite dance*
Brid: Lily, get down from there and tell me how this game works.
--------
Brid: Taylor, please stop roasting me for playing World of Warcraft online. Fuck you. I love World of Warcraft.
Lily: Do you?
Brid: Yes, I do! My character’s a Tauren Retribution Paladin! His name’s Dakotah Swiftcutter! I like... smashing things to death... with my hooves...
Lily: ...
Brid: Does she... does she have a canon class?
Lily: *raises eyebrows at her*
Brid: ... ?
--------
Riley: “His name is Cipher and he is made of binary.”
Brid: So valid.
Lily: Sooo valid.
Brid: Hey, Taylor, I’m lesbian.
Lily: “I thought you were American!”
(they both crack up)
--------
Lily: Okay, what do you think of Megan? Emo, goth, scene, or punk?
Brid: What’s her major?
Lily: Well, she’s an BFA for starters.
Brid: A what?
Lily: Bachelor of fine arts.
Brid: An art major? Okay. So I’m still not sure, but... I want to say she’s emo for now, and she doesn’t seem like much of a scene kid to me? Punk, maybe, but the ankh around her neck indicates that she might be a goth. Or she might be a pagan... who just really likes wearing black...
(Brid dials a phone number)
Lily: ...... what are you doing
Brid: Hey, Val? We need an opinion.... Yeah, uh, I’m gonna send you a picture. Is this girl emo, goth, punk, or scene? ..... Of course you’d know, dumbass! You’re like “Lily’s grunge, not punk!” and- *snaps picture of screen* There, I sent it. What do you think? *long pause*
Lily: Well?
Brid: *imitating Val’s voice* That bitch could not more obviously be a prep trying to dress up in all black because it’s cool!
Lily: *leans into phone* What about the ankh?..... He hung up.
--------
Lily: Any thoughts going in?
Brid: I swear to god, if the first guy is our professor, I’m going to scream.
(The guy is a professor)
Lily: You said you’d scream.
Brid: *throws back her head and unleashes a loud, guttural scream*
Angel, from downstairs: LILY, ARE YOU OKAY?
Lily: We’re fine, Mr. Perch.
Angel: You sounded like you were in a lot of pain!
Lily: We’re fine, I told her to scream.
Angel: ... please, just be careful
Lily: He pierced the gay ear.
Brid: That’s gay, Mr. Professor...
Angel: It’s not gay if it’s both of your ears!
Brid: We’re not talking about you!
--------
Brid: I can’t believe she’s being called a weeb. Literally everyone watches anime these days, don’t they?
Lily: It might be the fact that she’s dressed like a literal touhou character.
Brid: That is not a-
Lily: Well, it’s what I thought when I saw her, so yeah.
Brid: Damn, I didn’t know Megan could swear.
Lily: No one knew I could swear before high school, actually.
Brid: Oh my god, she mains paladin?!
Lily: *squishface*
Brid: aaaaaaaaaaaaaa im hapy
Lily: Okay, but like, if you used your MMO class as a reason to go fuck someone’s shit up, you’re pretty cringe, not gonna lie.
Brid: You’re playing an otome on a browser.
Lily: And it was your idea to post this shit to YouTube. And now, for my favorite choice in the game.
Brid: ...?
Lily: “I’LL PLUCK YOU UP!”
Brid: ... So cringe. She is SO valid.
(Kai walks in, and then walks out)
Brid: I’m using my Val imitation for this fucker.
Lily: Y E S
--------
Brid: *riley voice* “Yeah so i got horny over my professor”
Lily: *mom voice* “ooh tell me more”
(both of them start laughing)
Brid: Wow. If I got roasted that hard by my mom I think I’d die immediately.
Lily: Can’t relate.
Brid: Well, like, I can’t relate either, actually... but like, still.
Lily: Yeah.
Brid: Why is this music so good and calming?
Lily: Yeah. *mom voice* “Anyway i’m doing a project with your father.” who i would love to cheat on with your professor. “It’s a very big project.” just like your professor’s dick.
Brid: Shut the fuck up. *riley voice* “Hey I can have the house to myself!”
Lily: “planning to get cozy with your professor?”
(both of them lose their shit)
--------
Brid: Oh no. A white man.
Lily: Every character. In this game. Is white. You dipshit. ... Except for Taylor.
Brid: *squishface* Yeah, but this one’s rich and white.
Lily: Oh, yeah, big mood.
Brid: I’m going to roast him every chance I get.
Lily: Well, I’m looking to get a good ending.
Brid: This is the prologue.
Lily: And I still think it matters.
-------
(cut in scene featuring the protagonist bumping into someone)
Brid: She’s so cute........
Lily: She is babey.
Brid: Oh my god look at her smile!
Lily: Precious child, must protect.
Brid: I want to hug her!
Lily: “Hey Chase, I’m Lesbian.”
Brid: “I thought you were american-” not now let me be a lesbian
Lily: Awfully weird that we bumped into him outside of the lab, huh? Huh?
Brid: Let me enjoy my protagonist!
--------
Riley: “Who are you?”
Lily: Dear god.
Kai: “Who are YOU?”
Brid: This can only end in disaster.
Riley: “No one.”
Lily: Fucking cringe.
Brid: So valid.
(Riley tries and fails to be covert several times, with each one, the girls laughing even more)
(At the end of the cutscene, Riley leaves.)
Brid: *kai voice* “this kid’s five feet two inches”
Lily: Holy shit, she’s shorter than me!
Brid: I’d stand, like a head above her!
Lily: Anyway, who’s Velazquez?
Brid: I’d make some Narcos jokes, but I don’t think anyone wants that.
Lily: This’ll be important later.
Brid: Fifty bucks is a lot. And the ID? I’m guessing he’s not a student.
--------
(Ethan appears)
Brid: Who’s this Komaeda looking ass?
Lily: Shut. Up.
---------
Brid: Oh my god, who’s- is that the calc professor?
Lily: Matthew Parker, yeah.
Brid: Oh my god, he’s wearing a little necklace!
Lily: Yes, he is.
Brid: “Sir I was not talking about your BALLS-” *just chokes while she’s laughing*
Lily: How old’s this guy, anyway?
--------
Lily: *matt voice* “So Mills is my little thief.”
Brid: WHAT?
Brid: WHAT DID WE STEAL?
Brid: I DIDN’T STEAL SHIT!
Brid: WHAT?
Lily: ...
Brid: ...
Lily: ...
Brid: ...
Lily: The Dyphine file, you dipshit!
Brid: Oh. Right.
Brid: waIT WHAT

I’m gonna post about my separate AoCF thoughts here.
It’s a lot of fun! I think the partner system is cool, but I do think there’s a bit of an opportunity cost there, as some characters are never the direct lead. That’s generally not a huge problem, but...Doremy is one of them. You have to swap in to play as Doremy. Which means I didn’t really play as Doremy very much, which is sad. I’m also gonna admit to being a little sad at the lack of victory animations. Those increased the overall smug level of the previous games by like 80%, so it’s a little sad to be lacking them.
But let’s not pretend I know shit about gameplay mechanics. I’m here for characters and story. Story is...actually really interesting. The Urban Legend incident is ongoing, and the antagonists, Jo’on and Shion, have spread a rumor around about Perfect Possession that allows people to do this partner system. Basically, one person is the “master,” who is the main player, while the other is the “slave.” Word choice, game. But the subordinate can possess the master and take over in every way, including physically. There are two conditions that are expressed in this. One is that a master can select the subordinate willingly by consenting to the pairing. The alternative is that the subordinate can possess another person if they drop their mental guard. These two conditions set up the sisters’ plan to swap out Shion, a poverty god who guarantees an absolute loss, as the subordinate of the opponent, and makes your subordinate work for Jo’on, who throws them out to fight instead. This way, any opponent pair beats the shit out of each other and they’re unscathed. It’s a really clever plan! Apparently so clever that Yukari can’t beat them and considers this a big enough deal to actually get involved.
The entire story seems to be about just beating them, but there are a lot of chapters that seem to have...nothing at all to do with them. Instead, we focus on the Dream World. Apparently, the Dream World is in chaos because the Perfect Possession switch can release the dream selves into the real world, where they go berserk because they’re a lot less inhibited and go berserk. Doremy expresses that this seems to be a kind of catharsis, where they release this pent up irritation and eventually settle. Doremy even yells at Yukari about how things are getting messed up and how she’s supposed to be fixing the problem and not be impacting the Dream World. I love that Doremy can do that.
Ultimately, they don’t intersect much. It’s kinda like two stories running simultaneously, side by side, but not really intersecting. The dream world stuff ultimately has nothing to do with the whole “beat the sisters” thing Yukari’s got going. The only real tie-in is that the Yorigami sisters’ penance is to catch all the dream selves and return them to the Dream World. There’s also a big thing about Sumireko, her dream self, and the doppelganger that’s her urban legend all fighting each other. That was fun, and probably setting up for 16.5 when it comes out.
Which leads into characters. Jo’on and Shion aren’t that interesting to me. Nowhere near like Kokoro or Sumireko for me. Shion seems okay, but ultimately, I feel like her popularity is coming from being cute, mistreated, and generally a sad-sack. You know, like Koishi and Flandre. Their popularity comes from that sad history and being mistreated and cute. She’s not a bad character, but her archetype has been done elsewhere and more interesting for me.
Jo’on, by comparison, almost got to be really interesting. She’d be a lot more popular in my book if she’d actually stuck with her change. See, Jo’on is a plague god, whose deal is she takes over people and scams them out of money, then uses that wildly to buy herself a bunch of nice things. She’s got nothing save up, but is highly materialistic in that sense. When she and Shion lose, Jo’on is sent to train with Byakuren at the temple to turn around this lifestyle (Shion lives with Reimu, because no one else would take her in, which was super cute). But in their actual route, Jo’on starts to talk about how the material possessions didn’t make her happy. See, the sisters, as plague and poverty gods, are pretty universally disliked and never got to know happiness. So Jo’on, having discovered that those possessions weren’t doing it, starts to wonder if maybe Byakuren’s right. By the end, she’s rejected the offer from Dream!Kasen to go back to that lifestyle and refuse to aid Yukari, and even tells Yukari flat-out that she’s going to go back to the temple and continue her training. Which is really cool! Shame that the ending explains that she gets tired of the minimalist lifestyle, and runs off back to her old ways regardless. Oh, but she’s changed a bit in that she only steals from those who can afford to lose a little. Which...almost counts for something? Really, it feels like a negation of potentially really great development for a character. She could’ve been the Kokoro...
Shion doesn’t really get that and just teams up with Tenshi to take over the world. Which, as we see in WaHH, does not happen, but they are super cute. Which is why I kinda like Shion a bit better.
Doremy is fantastic in this game. She’s surprisingly polite for a Touhou, and is pretty high on the mom-scale. She babysits the dream world selves, and is pretty indulgent with Reisen’s dream self. It’s kinda really cute? But at the same time, as protective as she is of the dream selves, she’s pretty intense with Yukari about resolving the incident in Gensokyo that’s messing with her turf. Also, holy shit her portrait is adorable. She’s so cute, it’s unbelievable.
Miko pretty much does what she always does. She’s all about research into the mechanics of what’s going on. Which, given that and her team-up with Byakuren and their respective subordinates, gets hilarious. Byakuren actually stands out more for me this time. It’s hard to exactly pinpoint why, but I feel like she just got some better moments overall? Her placing faith in Yukari and then finding out almost immediately that Yukari withheld critical information and almost certainly knew they’d lose was an interesting view into her character. Her dream self was also way more relatable than Miko’s. Miko just...kinda shows that she’s a bit of a prick toward others that she looks down on. Byakuren just confirms that the training of her disciples is just to make her life easier, which is hilarious. Futo and Ichirin are a ton of fun. Their usual banter gets way more intense when they’re teamed up, and their ending is them thinking they’ve surpassed their masters as a duo. Miko’s surprisingly cool with that, almost proud in a way. Which I didn’t expect, but it’s nice. Honestly, Miko’s public face is great, it’s just the introspective to her thoughts that shows she’s got some problems.
Reisen continues to be underwhelming as a playable character. Really, her dream self is an interesting introspective, but that’s about it.
Kokoro gets a fun thing where she’s analyzing emotions that tie people together as partners, ultimately to be used as part of Nitori’s latest invention. Mostly I just love this because Kokoro’s getting better about reading emotions.
Koishi’s got fun banter and, once again, accidentally bumblefucks her way to being first to the plot. Marisa helped.
Sumireko gets her interesting conflict between herself, her dream self, and her doppelganger, with a weird philosophical stance of who’s the real one and whether it matters.
Sukuna continues to be the least interesting character in these games. She doesn’t really do anything too interesting, aside from partnering with Tenshi.
Tenshi is a fun character always. Her nonsense is eternal, and she does explain why she got kicked out of heaven. That said, a lot of her interactions with Sukuna do not carry the same level of engagement as her interactions in the manga. Personally, I blame Sukuna.
Mokou and Mamizou is a partnership I never would’ve expected, but it’s great. They’re just aiming to be the strongest, and when they lose to the sisters, they’re amazed at their strategy and are hyped to work to overcome it. I really liked that. It’s unusual for Mamizou to not be more in the know than she is, but it worked out well here, and being early in the game, sets up the Yorigami sisters as a bigger threat.
Which I guess...leads us to Yukari. Yukari can be fun, but as far as the role of “Boss before the final boss that knows what’s going on” goes, she’s not as engaging as Mamizou. I think a lot of it comes from how she approaches it. She gets all her information from others, which irritates me even more because I just read CiLR, where her chapter focused on trying to get Ran to answer questions under her own power rather than giving computed answers. For being focused on finding your own answers, you sure did rely on others to tell you all the fine details of this incident. Hell, it even feels like she set them up to fail just so she could learn things, going so far as to withhold information from Miko and Byakuren to let them lose and see what happened. It’s fine, but not as much fun or as well explained.
Nothing that changed my perspectives all that much. Really, it’s a good collection of new interactions, but I’m not as engaged with Yukari’s performance this time around, and Jo’on losing character development really bothers me more than it probably should. Still fun, always great to see new interactions, but ultimately not my favorite.

A conversation with myself
I guess I should mention I have a second persona? I guess it means I’m plural? I didn’t really consider myself as such until somewhat recently, but I figured I’d just get it on paper. Chiaki said this was kinda stupid, but I guess the end result was good?
So who are you? How do you describe yourself? My name is Chiaki, or at least that’s what’s been ascribed to me. I guess I’m what you would consider a split personality. There’s not a whole lot to draw from aside from that origin. I guess there’s an aspect of me considering myself partially supernatural or whatever, but it’s certainly not something that brings any real power, so I can admit I’m human at the end of the day? Of course, I guess seeing as I’m just a free forming psyche, I can say I’m whatever I want.
When did you manifest? As far as I can remember, I’m pretty sure I was around since Tomo was about 12 or so. I recall being sort of like an id for you. One of the most memorable things was teasing you that you can’t keep up during P.E. and planting wishes to kill yourself.
You wanted me dead? I wouldn’t say I wanted you dead, in so far, I wanted to gut your innards out and watch you bleed out. I don’t know, wasn’t this more your subconscious having suicidal thoughts? In any case, I distinctly recall hearing your desires to tearing out your heart and eating it.
You’ve always been blood thirsty, haven’t you? I guess so. It’s partially animalistic fury, but also, I mean, isn’t this what you wanted, a wild girl that did everything you wanted? It’s the same with becoming a stabilized presence for you when you get too mentally tilted. You willed me into fulfilling that role.
Would you say you were a representative of who I wanted to be before realizing I’m trans? I guess? You always had a thing for choosing to be a girl in games, whether it be in fighting games or RPGs. You might as well have come out when you decided to adopt “Chiaki” as your nonexistent sister to fool spam mail. That was around when I really formed I think, once you named me and had me manifest in your writing. Also, maybe I was at first, but I feel part of it is that I became more my own thing after a while too.
Could you run through that history in more detail? Sure, I think this was back when you were in around seventh grade? I think you had largely stabilized as a kid. Remember being bullied in elementary school through sixth grade? I don’t think I was really around back then, but I distinctly remember coming into consciousness in seventh grade after all that trauma. I think that was when you started trying to act like who you are today? Always serious and a know-it-all. I was the crazier counterpart to you. I expressed emotions, I was sexually more mature and free than you. Maybe it was your inner desire to be me. Maybe you still want to be me. You do know you could have been me whenever you want, right?
Moving on, how did you evolve from there? You know where it went from there. You want me to talk about Pokegirls right? That’s when I really took form right? I started interacting with you in a narrative space and I got to stretch my legs out to be my own entity. Kinda gross when you look back at the fact we were lovers? Though, I guess you kinda forced me into that, narratively speaking. I personally don’t think I’d sleep with you, at least not anymore. But yes, we used to be a husband and wife duo? Funny how you just took a back seat after a while and I became your main online persona. Though, officially, I was you muse. “Musings of a Muse,” as you called it wasn’t it? Your LiveJournal. I think most of what you wrote there was through my voice, though I think you took a fair amount of ownership over what we wrote toward the end. In any case, you took on the day to day offline, but I was your voice online. I was the one posting, teasing and being a camwhore. Of course, we stopped all of that after a while.
Mostly after I got raped. To be fair, I’m pretty sure that was you in control posting and meeting people then. All your late night hook-ups were mostly on your own terms. I was there to be a shield, but my persona didn’t really start manifesting in you physically until your mental health really started to deteriorate.
Which was when? Probably after you got raped. Probably around mid-2012 or so. Look, you’re not really the most stable thing. Well, you never were.
What do you do usually? When I’m out, I just go about my business. If it’s online I do my own thing, which is usually reading stuff or shit posting on your Twitter. In person, I’m usually just trying to act calm and emulate you. I mean, all I need to do is be quiet and do some work. We’re not too different after all and it’s not like I can’t access what you know either.
Do you have any people you don’t like? Any particular person? And why? I wouldn’t say I have any particular grudge against anyone, really. Going back to that thing about being a bit more animalistic, I do bristle my fur when anyone means to do us harm. And anyone that harms Tomo usually gets me spitting fire and swearing revenge. I guess to speak to how much I don’t really pay attention to people I don’t particularly like, as long as they aren’t being an active problem for me. I can’t even remember why I would care about them otherwise. If I had to say though, I’m not that big of a fan of humanity in general? I think humans are generally pretty selfish and gross. If I had my way, I’d probably wipe out most of humanity if I really did have those god powers we wished I had.
If you were a god, what would you consider yourself. Something like Fenrir, but I don’t really see myself as a dog or wolf. Certainly a nice prospect, but I think the tiger/cat aspect has really stuck for me. If I could, I would also totally be able to be a Touhou.
Are you a weeb? You’re the weeb. I’m more just an edgelord. See, I can admit that. Well, okay, I probably like anime more than you. I’m just more frank than you on all of this.
Do you feel you are close to anyone in particular? I think I’ve gotten closer to people over the years. If people know who I am, more so. It’s a harder question to answer because most of our social circles cross over and people you cherish are people I cherish by default since they mean a lot to you. Do I have anyone I’m personally close to over you? I don’t really think so? I don’t present myself as a separate entity to you, so I haven’t really approached people as an independent entity. I certainly wouldn’t mind doing that more though. Like, what if I made my own friend and you weren’t able to really follow up or you don’t like them? Unless I’m clear on where I’m coming from, things could get awkward really quick. Personally I wish I could be more open about this. You do too, right? It would be a lot less lonely for me if I were to be able to interact with people naturally without them assuming it’s you.
So when do you manifest now? I’m mostly out when you can’t deal with your own shit. But I mean, I guess I can come out whenever. You let me out to do all this. I’m out talking to people right now and I assume you’re able to take back control whenever you like.
Are we one and the same? In a sense, but we’re perfectly capable of occupying the same space. It’s sometimes hard to differentiate if I’m really in control or not, and you sometimes fail to relinquish control to me when you want me to be in power. Also, you’ve lived your life as a queer trans girl and have a biological body to reference yourself to. Me, I’m more a cis-woman aren’t I? I never had a body to call my own and I was born a woman and always been one. Not to mention, I’m still sexually active while you’re pretty much ace these days, not that I’m interested in using your body to sexually gratify myself. In any case, there’s a lot of little things in our identities that diverged over the years. I think that’s what particularly lent toward you recognizing me as a split personality more than your own fantasy version of you. You want to be me, but you also don’t because I’m not you.
So what do you want to do moving forward, irrespective of me? I wouldn’t mind stretching my wings for myself again. I did make a new Twitter, though I personally don’t think I want to update it much when almost no one interacts with me on it. Maybe I’ll date. Really all of this hinges on you being more public about who we are.

You only get one shot. If the first episode of an anime doesn’t impress me, it’s getting dropped.
Did In Another Generic Otaku Harem Fantasy World impressed me on its first episode? Well, if I’m making fun of the title and its originality, then no. It did not impress me at all.
In Another World With My Smartphone is disappointing. I’m talking “shut-in, black sheep in the family who watches anime all day, cosplays at anime cons, and doesn’t play sports like your father wanted you to; thus he disowns you” disappointing (kinda like some of you weeaboos out there reading this).
I was optimistic that this’ll be a good show based on its premise: Our hero, Touya Mochizuki, is resurrected and sent to a new fantasy-like world of his choosing by God (who accidently killed him by throwing down lighting towards the Earth, striking him). In this new world, Touya can still use his smartphone as it’s powered by magic. In addition, his phone is still linked to his former world, allowing him to receive information and news from it.
It’s an interesting concept that I haven’t seen in any other form of media. Seeing modern day technology powered by magic as it technology itself adapts to the fantasy world. It’s such a great idea and you think the writers of the show can do some amazing ideas with that, right?
Nah. All they give us is yet another cookie cutter otaku fantasy anime with world harem undertones, with some decent and cool ideas to help keep it little original. Outside of the original ideas however, this anime failed to impress me in reasons which I will go over.
The anime opens with the recently decreased Touya chilling in heaven alongside God (who looks like a regular lookin’ grandfather; with his glasses, normal clothes, and all). God explains to Touya that his death was accidental to His own carelessness, and begs for Touya’s forgiveness. Touya’s rather chill about the whole mishap and forgives God, understanding that people make mistakes and you must forgive them for it. I mean, yeah, he did died at such a young age and he didn’t fully experienced life, but at least he doesn’t have to live on Earth with all its awful people and problems. And God’s seems like a very chill, mellow, and sincere dude.
You gotta think positive sometimes, ya know?
Impressed by Touya’s forgiving heart, God makes up for his (literally) fatal mistake by reviving him into any world of his choosing (a fantasy world as mentioned earlier), as well as making his smartphone operate in this new world and gives him His number.
Following that, the OP animation starts to play. It starts out normally – upbeat music plays, there’s panning of forest landscape, Touya’s face’s appearing in the foreground, and annoying singing by some J-Pop idol girls, and holy hell it’s so annoying. Many red flags are going off in my head like I’m a Commie.
Things went from “this show won’t be bad at all!” to “this is going to be yet another annoying, generic otaku harem fantasy world anime ain’t it?” To start with my disappointment towards this aniem, Touya transforms into Kirito Clone #314 with a white pallet swap of Kirito’s school shooter trench coat. That alone should had made me drop this anime as soon as saw that, but I decided to curb my anger just for this review.
What’s with light/web novel characters having trench coats
What’s with light/web novel characters having trench coats
And why they have the same facial features?
nd why they have the same facial features?
(Seriously, I’m not anime racist but, what’s with these light/web novel characters looking alike?)
Alas, my anger would soon dominate my chill and zen mind as the weeaboo-like OP music increased its awfulness. Like forreal, the music makes me want to choke out its producer. I’m willing to stack up and piss away $3500+ for a trip to Japan, just so I can personally strangle the anime’s music producer in hopes he or she will never make awful trash like this ever again.
That, or just master the song on the violin and make money off tips at anime cons from fans of this show. Hustle off these weeb kids and adults because they pay good money to hear violin covers of their favorite weeb song but I digress.
As for the OP animation, it’s what you expect from a Generic Otaku Harem Fantasy World Anime: The first phase of the OP is character introductions. First, we have two girls roaming the countryside. We can assume that they’re twin sisters due to their similar hair and eyes color, facial structure, and clothing. Any clues of their personalities and how different they are aren’t presented as their introduction but if I can take a guess, one is an introverted shy twin and the other is more extroverted, open, and brash.
This is the look of a girl who’ve seen some things.
Next, we’re introduced to some samurai girl who looks like the love child of that girl with owl off Samurai Showdown and Reimu off Touhou. She appears to be just like any other average and plain samurai girl in anime of this type so let’s move forward.
Reimu (Thouhou)
Owl Girl (Samurai Showdown)
Samurai Girl
Following, is the obvious upbeat Himedere princess. I’m basing this sterotype off the fact of her position in this shot, the color coding of her dress, facial expression, and how her arms are up and spread like she’s a decision maker in her country.
She is followed by who I can assume to be another princess, perhaps a rival princess from another country. I can take a wild guess that she somebody close to her is either dead or missing based how she’s staring outside her window and the depressing look on her face. That, or her weedman whom she called two hours ago is on drug dealer time and is wondering why it’s taking him so long to come through.
We move forward with a below average gothic lolita reading in her dark and gloomy room filled with creepy stuffed animals. Then, we have some random minor character introductions. After that, is a quick ascending shot focusing on a floating island which is followed up by shot of a MILF and her daughter, maybe? Her student? Some kid she kidnapped? I dunno the connection between the two other than they have the same weird purple and white hair clips. Speaking of connections, is there a connection to the floating island and these two, given they had their introducing shots back-to-back with the same quick ascending panning.
Creepy looking gothic lolita
Next, the OP focus back on that Himdere Princesss and she just look annoying with her overly happy childish Genki anime girl expression and animal mascot sidekick. She looks annoying and I hope her animal sidekick bites into her neck and drags her across the ground violently like Mantecore the White Tiger did Roy Horn. Just snatch all her shit up and maul her to death.
This is the most punchable moe’ face I’ve seen in a while
Then, we’re introduced to a secondary male character. He’s totally gonna be Touya’s rival or something with how he is position in the middle, there’s that speed lines pointing directing at him, and there’s a close up of his smug face. He has white hair, so he probably has a tragic past or something that will make the fangirls feel bad for him or something. Or “he” might be a cross-dressing girl with masculine features thus making everyone question their sexuality because it’s a harem show and we need to carter to every type of niche of animu girl archtype here – even reverse traps.
The OP transition to battle showcases and boy, are they boring. Every battle that is shown here lack any sense of direction towards urgency, excitement, or high stakes in terms of life or death. The brawler twin just curb stomps some dragon as she slams her fists into its body while her mage sister cast magic against….invisible enemies? Oh and we don’t know what kinda spell she just cast. I guess an explosion spell maybe? I dunno.
Reimu and Owl Girl’s love child fighting style example is one of the worse of this phase and here’s why: So Samurai Girl runs up on one lizard man) and lizard man puts up his shield to protect himself, right? But it looks like either Samurai Girl slice the shield or stomach of the lizard man but it’s hard to tell based off the camera angle and the awkwardness of the animation. Then she charges into two other lizardmen.
We can tell she’s charging into them based off the animation speed lines, but that animation just fades as she slices the first Lizardman’s shield, runs (with the speedlines re-appearing), the camera moving awkwardly behind her as the speedlines disappear and she attacks two more lizardmen. Just like with the first lizardman, we can’t tell if she hit them or not due to how weird the animation appears.
(Refer to the OP video link above as my GIF creation program wouldn’t work at the time of posting this review)
The scene quickly transition to the second princess firing a magic bow towards a group of some damn dirty apes who were just minding their own business. Not much to go on here, so let’s tear apart Touya’s battle.
Touya fights against some old dude in an empty arena for no reason. The fight choreography is lazy as there is no effort and direction with the sword fighting. The sword swings has no force or power behind them as they side step to the right. There’s small sparks at each clash of their blades but it’s not anything grand. In short, this is the worse battle of this phase due to the animator not caring or pressed for time and completion.
The OP finally ends with Generic Otaku Harem Fantasy MC (I’m not calling him by his real name anymore) and the girls standing in front of an unknown mansion. Will this be his personal penthouse for him and his harem where they all live in harmony? Are they going to do some The Great Gatsby type partying here? Is it some random dude’s house they just rented out the front lawn for this shot alone? Oh well, it doesn’t really matter.
At this point, my gut was telling me “Hey Benjamin, drop this now! It’s not worth your blood pressure rising due to your anger.” I ignored my gut’s warning.
“Nah, let’s see how laughably terrible this anime will get!” I rebuttal as I aggressively tapped my left index finger against the side of my laptop while punching the wall with my right hand in anger from witnessing such a generic show of a OP. I mean, this anime isn’t that utterly horrible. I can see why some folks may like it, but its’ not my cup of tea. And yet, I swear if I kept watching this entry level moe’ harem filth, I’d commit mass murder against all lonely otaku who love to project their harem otaku fantanties on main characters like this Touya..
I need to listen to my gut more often.
Once the awful OP ends, we see Generic Otaku Harem Fantasy MC lying in a field unconscious. He awakens, sees that he’s okay, and heads to town. As he questions how he’ll survive in this new world, Generic MC receives a call from God. After confirming that Generic MC is okay he informs him that he upgraded his phone to help him get through the new town with ease such as installing a map program detailing the area.
Once receiving the map updates, Generic MC heads to town, but is stopped by some weird, overly excited, possibly gay tailor; He begs the MC to sell his “bizarre” school clothes to him in exchange for some gold pieces and clothing to help blend in. The scene cuts away to an eye-catch of a recycled image of the MC checking his phone and annoying MMORPG-like music jingle.
“They’re gonna use this often, aren’t they? I hope not this is annoying.” I asked myself. “Eh, probably not, it’s just a one-time thing, right?”
Oh Ben, you’re so full of hope.
After receiving his new clothes (and being creped out by the tailor sniffing his old outfit), Generic Otaku Harem Fantasy World MC wanders around town, seeking the Silver Moon Inn as mentioned to him by the tailor. He needs a place to lounge in and settle in the new world. While searching for the inn, he encounters the set of twins from the OP being harassed by some thugs in an alley. The girls sold the thugs a damaged glass antler piece and believe they should not pay full price for it. They demand the girls to lower the price, which they refuse.
Touya decides to step in and help the girls. And once again, a red flag pops up in my head.
“Let me guess: Dude’s gonna play hero, somehow overpower the two thugs who’re in better shape than he is, and the two girls will sworn over him and befriend him, despite being ignorant of his origins.”
My theory will be soon proven right.
The thugs try to attack the kid but he takes them out with ease. During the strife, we’re treated to a sample of his powers bestow upon him by God. As the smaller thug charges towards the MC with a knife, he dodges the blade. He notices that he is moving so fast that the world feels like it’s in slow motion. Taking advantage of this, he smashed his elbow into the spine of the attacker, knocking him out cold. The anime doesn’t show what happens to the other thug.
Guess he saw his homeboy getting that ass whoop and was like “Nah bruh, I’m good. I didn’t even want that glass piece anyways.” and dipped off screen.
So Touya, or Generic Otaku Harem Fantasy MC. This kid’s a Gary Sue – blessed by God who enhanced his natural abilities. He managed to whoop one thug’s ass so badly that his homeboy ran off on him like he just ripped off the plug. In under ten minutes we’ve encounter awful OP music, a harem set up, a generic fantasy otaku dream world, and now a Gary Sue MC who’ve just impressed a set of twin girls with his powers.
Awesome.
The cynical me was yearning for the kid to act all cool and cocky against the thugs, only to have his skull caved in by them. Kinda like Subaru (Re:Zero) was put in his place for playing hero by the two thugs harassing Emila. Granted, In Another World With My Smartphone is a campy “stuck-in-a-fantasy-world”anime compared to Re:Zero, and the kid did died at such a young age. He earned the right to live out this fantasy life of being overly powered and have girls fall of him day one. But still, this lazy writing and train wreck anime makes wanna drink. I need to get drunk tolerant this trash. Sigh.
Touya and the twins (Elze; a headstrong brawler and Linze; the quiet mage) are quickly acquainted. After revealing some information about his background, he tells the girls that he’s searching for the Silver Moon Inn. To the surprise of nobody who understand lazy writing and are knowledgeable in classic RPG troopes/clichés, the twins are staying in that exact inn and agree to let him join their adventure.
There’s another cut away shot with some awful guitar music playing while the voice actresses of the twins are humming along to the melody (off beat mind you). They sound bored; as if they just wanna get their paycheck and forget the fact that they worked on this show. I don’t blame them.
[Skipping several unimportant scenes ahead]
Later that night, we see Touya lying in bed checking his cell phone. The phone is still connected to his old world, so he still receives news updates from it as we see him reading an entertainment article on a popular band from his world breaking up. I personally like this, as it shows that life in his old world has move on after his death. This makes me wish that I wasn’t dropping this anime, because I want to see the writers play with the idea of Touya checking his phone for news updates in his old world.
The next morning, Touya, Elze, and Linze scan a bulletin board searching for quests to earn money. After the twins get Touya hip on how the guild system work, the three apply to hunt down and kill five horned wolves, collecting their horns as proof of killing the beasts. Before heading out, Touya arms himself with a sword – furthering the point home that he’s a generic action-fantasy web/light novel hero
Toyua tears through and flawlessly kill two wolves as expected (because you know, can’t have the Gary Sue MC get torn apart and slaughtered by wild beasts ass in mere seconds), one of the wolves being an extra kill just because. After the battle, he mentions that he wants to learn how to read and write in the language of the world he’s living in, given he lacks the knowledge of knowing how to. Furthermore, he wants to learn magic as he was inspired by Linze’s spell casting.
Let’s break this down: he gets to live in a world that he’s happy in (fair enough due to reasons mentioned earlier), he takes down thugs flawlessly, links up with twins, kills two monsters with ease (one which was an extra kill), and now he wants to learn magic. As a Gary Sue kid with an unprecedented natural learning rate and talent, he’ll master magic with ease of course.
Joy.
As they’re chilling back at the Inn, the twins tell Touya that in order to learn and master magic, he must have been born with strong aptitudes. Linze (born with strong aptitude) showcases her magic spells to Touya through elemental stones. Linze shows Touya a weak water magic spell, filling a small tea cup up with water. She passes the stone to Touya, who on his first try almost floods the table. The twins are shocked and even impress by this and suggest that they go outside to have him practice with the othert stones before he destories the inn.
Of course, Touya shows impressive display of skills of each stone’s magic. He has no hassle in using their powers a few steps above the average. It’s like he’s of the Master Knight class from the stagery RPG Fire Emblem 4: Genealogy of the Holy War – he can use all magic and weaponry. Expert unlike say Lachesis of Leaf (two Master Knights) who had to work their asses off to get that class, this kid would start off as a Master Knight right from the gate.
After seeing the kid showcasing how much of a Gary Stu he is, I decided to drop the episode right there and then. I had enough of it.
In Another World With My Smartphone isn’t too terrible, but it’s not great either. For what it’s worth, this show works well for its target audience and demographic. It’s a campy, fun show that doesn’t take itself or clichés seriously. I can see it as a show for somebody who just wants to relax on an easy day with a beer (or juice for the younger folks) and chill out after a long day of work or school. As for people like me outside it’s demographic, I can’t recommend it.
I was really hopeful that this anime would have been different with using modern technology in a fantasy world that still work due ot magic. That is an amazing concept that I wanan see more in anime, because it’s something I’ve never seen before. While I did drop the episode, I did manage to peep at the scene where Touya is explaining how to create ice cream with magic thanks in part with his cell phone. I thought that was cool him showing the resident of his new world how the technology of his former world works.
I must also appreciate the RPG like aesthetics of this show. It made me felt like I was watching a campy RPG come to life and I personally wouldn’t mind playing a RPG game like this. The music itself has that classic smartphone RPG vibe with it light orchestral soundtrack playing the scenes. Granted, I will say it got annoying at certain points.
Sadly, the predictable overpowerness of Touya and him learning magic and weaponery with ease is a huge turn off. I get that he was blessed by God to have his natural abiblities increased ten folds, but it comes off as cheap and lazy. However, it seems like Touya will struggle with reading and writing overtime so I guess that’s a fair trade off.
In short, just skip In Another World With MY Smartphone if you dislike OP’d Gary Stu characters and overly capmy RPG troopes. It’s not worth wsting your time watching. If you don’t mind it and just want a warm, upbeat show to watch then I say watch it.
Score: 6/10
I would give this show a 4.5/10, but it’s that modern day technology in a fantasy world idea is great and I think if done right, it could be sometime exciting to see in future anime series. Plus
AFTERWORD
I’m tempted to give this show a second chance just based off how relaxing of a show this is. Also I just saw how the other thug was defeated after writing this. Dude was knock out by the brawler twin but I’m too lazy to edit that in lol.
In Another World With My Smartphone could had been better without the Gary Sue MC. You only get one shot. If the first episode of an anime doesn’t impress me, it’s getting dropped.

Why The Hiatus Keeps happening? A mun’s update
This is affecting
@bunbunmaru-shimbun - Aya Shameimaru and Eridan Ampora
@tokiko -Tokiko Peixes
@xepherious - Navataai
My posts will continue to be slow. I am still present.
This is generally an update of what’s been happening with me.
My home situation is getting worse by the day. My sister and I are no longer talking. We are in a further rift that may well be irreparable. Of course my mother’s health is getting worse, and it is very likely well ... I think after what is expected to happen, it’s just going to just explode.
I hate to say it, but there comes a time when one can no longer take the verbal and emotional abuse, cut ties, and burn bridges. Not that it is already burned. I am planning within the year or 1st half next to leave permanently.
What is causing my delay of leaving is that I am in heavy debt as I had made horrible mistakes years ago. I wish I didn’t. I won’t go into details. This also included a time where I had to pay medical expenses directly on a credit card. I learned my lesson and that’s that. I am paying down most of it and should only be needing to pay down one credit card by end of year.
If I had no debts, I would leave immediately to someplace and immediately cut off ties.
With that said.
That Shinto Decision
I have decided that yes, I will answer The Call and actively seek out and get training as a Shinto priestess.
As a few backups, my work is well aware that I really want to work over in Japan for a time at main headquarters and is doing everything they can to find me a position and be transferred. This of course keeps my seniority and gives me extra time to get through the shrine system when possible. There are also other things that I can jump to as needed.
So here is the general plan
I am now trying to lighten my load as much as possible, pare down my possessions significantly or have them stored elsewhere safely. These things are not in any particular order.
To be stored far away: Gaming Systems, Games, and Card Collections
The main things that I have that would need to end up getting shipped over to my girl will likely be my retro game systems, their games, and (considered) our collection of Pokemon and Magic cards (along with other various TCG material). This is planned to occur on October when I come up to visit (and pick up my girl for continued travel to Japan). When finally living together, she is intending to stream video games (she does some videos already) and such for her side of the income, so to say.
To be Sold- Anything Valuable
From there, I will hate to part with it, but I will be ending up selling my Glock 19 gun, its magazines, and whatever ammunition I have because if/when I go to Japan, I will obviously have no need / ability to keep it. I will also likely sell off/given some manga and various books with the exception of Touhou Project materials (which I will keep).
To be given away/donated:
About most of my clothing. I will keep a small amount of khakis, cargo pants, T-shirts, all cosplay outfits, and two suits. A lot of my books will be donated.
To be destroyed
I will be consolidating as much of my data from years past to present to hard drives and cloud storage. After consolidation, old discs will be destroyed. This is with exception of games (which go to Kish for safe keeping.)
For October Return for Japan 3.0
I will be travelling to Canada to spend time for their October Thanksgiving and then will be bringing my girl with me to Japan to start to get consulted on the exact procedures to begin. Yes, I do not understand Japanese too well, but The Call is far too strong and ... surprisingly I am picking up fairly quickly than I thought. This includes both written (incl. Kanji) and spoken (though I am extremely shy). Honestly I am really scared to start asking questions, so well, that’s why Kish is coming with me to push me.
From there ...
If and when “The Calling” becomes imminent:
All remaining possessions will be taken out of the place and either be put into local storage, brought with me to Kish for safe keeping, or just brought with me. It is very likely I will be ending up giving my desktop to her mother (since I already have a gaming laptop now-- though this may happen sooner.)
I do not expect help. I just wanted to update people on what is happening and what my expected plans will be.

10 Touhou Characters I Really Like
I did a 10 Characters, 10 Fandoms post and couldn’t come up with a singular candidate to represent TouHou Project, so this is my answer.
1. Fujiwara no Mokou
She was super close to being my pick for the previous list. I started having a bigger appreciation for Mokou around a year ago, and I think writing fanfiction and shipping her with Kaguya is mainly why. Love her design, and her dynamics. And all the angst potent in writing- (but also how laidback she actually is in canon).
2. Toyosatomimi no Miko
Also came close to being my pick for the last list. The gif pretty much explains everything: her hairstyle, her cape, her headphones, her wife. She and Tojiko are another of my main Touhou ships. I could honestly talk a lot about that. And my Touhou ships in general. I should make a list on that-
3. The Scarlet Sisters (Remilia and Flandre)
Originally was just gonna be Flan, but found this nice gif of the both of them. Flan was the first Touhou character I declared my favorite, and the SDM remain my favorite group from the franchise. Also love the sisterly relationship they have, as well as Remilia’s balance between formal and immature. If I could just find a nice gif of the whole mansion crew, I would’ve just put that as my Touhou entry on the 10 fandoms list.
4. Suika Ibuki
I remember drawing her on my old school binder (and Flan too actually). And despite the fact I intended my current AO3 pfp to be a placeholder, chibi Suika remains the face of my AO3 account. Like Remilia, she has a balance of maturity and immaturity, but for completely different reasons (they key reason being alcohol). I just really love my one fanfc (crossover, and really long) where I embrace the Shuten-douji aspect of her character. And by embrace, I mean drill deeeeep into that iceberg.
5. Clownpiece
I have yet to play LoLK, but I did play one of the fanmade mobile games, and oh my god how I spammed my Discord friends with that torment. Still! I’m weak to her aesthetics and theme songs that I just can’t stay mad.
6. Eiki Shiki
You can blame Memories of Phantasm for this. (and her theme song; actually that’s a pretty good explanation for a lot of my favorites...) I know she’s probably not actually that short, and she isn’t as strict, but fanon is fun! Although I do love the idea of her giving lectures in the mortal world because she actually does care about keeping people out of Hell. She should really be allowed to leave PoFV and not just be a cameo or brief mention in recent games (and least the literature still uses her from time to time).
7. Medicine Melancholy
And speaking of “please bring back earlier casts”! A PoFV character so underrated, there was only 3 gifs of her with gif search. I really fell in love with the theory that the real Medicine is the tiny doll and Su-San is the human body being controlled. But I also just love child characters with more serious characteristics.
8. Seija Kijin
Another case of “blame writing fanfiction”. There was something really special about experimenting with her, given I didn’t pay much attention to her at first. I started to love the potential for arcs and dynamics just her ability brought, given how her very nature as an amanojaku means she kinda has a passive ability of always reversed in a way.
9. Daiyousei
I feel like Daiyousei and Koakuma are less underrated than Medicine (and probably other early, lower stage bosses), even tho they technically don’t have official names. I swear that one Halo-Touhou crossover fic completely shaped my character appreciations, because I also liked Dai more because of it. She’s a cutie, but canonically kind of a blank state. Which really makes it fun to speculate and explore relationships, personalities, and backstories with her. So I guess in a way it makes her more of a doll than Medicine too.
10. Hieda no Akyuu
Akyuu’s special, in a way no Touhou character really has matched. She’s the only one with true visible aging in a setting that feels like it’s stuck in time, and maybe that’s partially because of who she is - the Child of Miare. The one who’s not gonna live past her 30′s. My favorite version of her is when she’s like 10, for the same reason why I like Medicine and charismatic!Remilia. But in recent time I’ve grown interest in her older versions, especially with one lingering thought (and fear). Is Zun really gonna kill her off in a few years? Will future Touhou media feature a dead Akyuu in the Ministry of Right and Wrong? Or is she gonna find a way to live longer? I really can’t say for either (heard one of the literature mentioned her getting interested in youkai books, which may be early seed planting). But Akyuu may just be the first Touhou casualty (that wasn’t part of a backstory), and whether or not it happens, I’m excited to see what the dramatics of it all may stir up.
Unless Zun decides to retcon or ignore it. That’d just be disappointing.
Honorable Additions Because 10 Just Isn’t Enough
11. Komeiji Sisters (Satori and Koishi)
12. Utsuho Reiuji
13. Nitori Kawashiro
14. Kyouko Kasodani
15. Saki Kurokoma
(no gifs...?!)
16. Narumi Yatadera
17. Chen

A bit of talk about my favorite casts overall in Touhou, because I'm kinda fixated on it today:
MoF: My favorite cast. Sanae, Kanako, and Suwako would carry this team on their own, but then you get Aya who is great, the Aki sisters who I really love despite them not having a ton going on, Hina who is interesting to me, and even Nitori who I've come around to liking through repeated exposure. The only real detriment to the team is Momiji, who hasn't done anything wrong, I'm just constantly pissed at how unreasonably popular she is. How the hell did this character with no dialogue ever manage to break top 20? How did people decide she was a top favorite, much less a stronger character than Kanako and Suwako? To each their own opinions, and I'm not about to fight anyone over it, but this is the single most confusing thing about fan perceptions to me.
SA: If anyone were to say that my pick for best cast is dumb and that it's obviously the SA crew, I'd probably concede immediately. I can't think of a character in this game that isn't great. Chireiden is especially fantastic, bringing in some of my favorites overall. Half the cast typically places around top 20 for me, and I think that alone shows how great they are. The only truly low-ranking one is Kisume, who just...doesn't have anything to work with, really.
TD: I love the TD cast. I wish I could fully articulate why, I just appreciate them. Seiga is delightfully wicked, Miko is awesome, Futo is a lot of fun, and even Tojiko has just enough presence that I want to know more about what her deal is. Yoshika and Kyouko are a bit lower for me, but are still solid enough characters. Then there's Mamizou, my third favorite character overall. In the game, she seems pretty good, but it's another situation where the more I see of her, the more I love her character. It's a shame the extra stage is so frustrating to me. If I sat down and actually applied myself, I might be able to clear it...
PCB: Prismrivers are A+ characters, I don't care what anyone else says! This game also brought in Alice, who is top-tier, as well as general fan-favorites in Yukari, Yuyuko, and Youmu. This is one situation, at least, where I agree with fan perceptions. All of these characters are great. The only one I don't have strong opinions on is Letty, which is a shame because she's a Yuki-Onna, and those are awesome creatures. I guess they can't all be winners.
LoLK: I just feel like this is where they should go. I love Junko, Clownpiece is great (especially in the manga), Sagume and Hecatia are fascinating, and I really like Doremy. If anything really holds them back, it's the game itself, with its kind of awkward resource collection system, and the ridiculous difficulty set up by the PointDevice mode (which I really dislike). There are some really great characters floating around, but I just can't get as attached to them. Maybe it's because they mostly will never show up again. Maybe it's because the game is such a pain that I can't be asked to experience the characters again by playing it. Whatever the case, I think "above average" is a decent designation for the cast as a whole.
HSiFS: Tentatively putting them here. May wind up going above PCB, but I'd be surprised if I wind up feeling that positively toward the whole cast. Really, I think this is where they'd belong. Close to average, but a little above, largely based on the few standouts and some personal attachments. Eternity and Narumi are the two big standouts, while Satono and Mai are the ones I have personal attachment to, for reasons involving wanting to see more of their history. Okina's also incredibly lore-significant, which is hard to ignore, even if I'm not her biggest fan right now. They're a good cast.
UFO: And now we come to by benchmark average. UFO is not a cast I am particularly enamored with. I really like Kogasa, and despite never directly meeting her in-game, I love Nue's concept. Byakuren and Nazrin are also particularly good, but the mid-game cast of Ichirin, Murasa, and Shou don't really appeal to me much. They kind of all even out to a solid average cast. By contrast...
IN: this cast is mostly just average. There's really only two standouts, but both are standouts because of subsequent games and manga. Those two being Kaguya and Mokou. I feel almost nothing toward the rest of this cast. Kaguya manages to be one of my overall favorites, based on her presentation largely in Inaba of the Moon/Earth, and Mokou jumped significantly based on her interactions with Futo and Sumireko in ULiL. Reisen is also growing on me, though I wouldn't call her a favorite. I think what keeps this one below UFO is just that the majority of the cast feels very bland to me.
EoSD: "Steve, you fucking hypocrite, they're not even last place." Look buddy, I have only ever stated dislike for this cast based on my inherent contrarianism, and I think we all know this. So, to kinda make my case, we're going to factor out fanon, because I could complain about fanon interpretations of this crew being the absolute worst for literal hours. I'm serious, I've done it before. Anyway, on their own, the cast is not bad, I just have virtually no interest in them. Flandre, by all accounts, should be one of my favorites. I love that archetype. But for some reason, she just doesn't resonate as much with me as she ought to, and I often wonder if that's because I can't separate out my contempt for fanon interpretations coupled with how high-ranked she always is. Patchouli is excellent, and I largely adore her because of her association with elemental magic, which is a favorite of mine, though she still ranks below other magicians because she's kinda plain in that regard (Alice's dolls are way more interesting conceptually, and Marisa is far more organic in her application of magic). And that's where the positives stop. Remilia and Sakuya can have some good moments, but I ultimately don't appreciate them as much. Cirno is a character I have long not liked, who is only recently starting to be appreciated with manga appearances (as a side character) and her role in HSiFS. The rest of the cast ranges from complete disinterest to disdain. Meiling and Rumia just aren't interesting, Koakuma gets a few points entirely because Koishi's Heart-Throbbing Adventure made her best villain, and Daiyousei is in eternal contempt for doing nothing ever yet outranking excellent characters like Kanako and Mamizou somehow. They're a mix of disinterest, dislike, and not as interesting as they should be, which leads to a particularly low ranking.
DDC: Of course, if we're being fair, the EoSD cast is not my least-favorite. Fanon certainly makes them the group I complain about the hardest, but my most disinterested feelings go to DDC. I struggle to think of a single character in this game that stands out at all. Let's get this out of the way: Seija is a fascinating character, but I don't like her. I mentioned this with Okina in another post, but I can find a lot of characters interesting while still disliking how they are. And that's the big issue. Seija's usually the one that would pull this team for people, and she has, hysterically, the opposite effect on me. Sukuna is similarly not that engaging, and unlike most characters added to the fighting games, her presence in ULiL did nothing for me. The first three stage bosses are all just smallfry who show up ready to fight with the social upheaval thing going on, but ultimately fail to have particularly unique traits, and...honestly, a mermaid and werewolf are a bit too western for me? I have the same kind of issue with EoSD, where the western stuff feels a bit too familiar, so I can't appreciate the novelty of a character's species if there's nothing else to go off of. Which means that the Tsukumos kinda get the favorites spot (I told you about the contrarianism). They're associated with music and storms, and you fight them in the middle of a thunderstorm. As far as coolness factor goes, they win, hands down. I also just like their designs best. I know everyone else in the world seems to like them least, but I think they're the strongest entries. You know, despite still being somewhat bland overall. They're no Prismrivers, that's for sure.
#touhou#in case anyone wanted to hear me babble on about the Touhou casts#for anyone wondering yes this lines up well with favorite games too#SA and LoLK are lower#while HSiFS and PCB are higher#also UFO would be at the bottom
