Third world America
Why is America following the politics of third world countries???
Having born and grown up in Pakistan and after travelling extensively across Africa and Asia I can claim to have understood the politics of third world countries to a certain extent. If you set aside the element of corruption for the time being, politicians in these countries mainly embrace the following policies:
1. Always disagree with other parties and their decisions even if it goes against the national interest.
2. Always condemn the decisions of the other parties and vote on partisan basis even if it means that the country suffers.
3. Play fear tactics with public, using lies and deception as a strategy - AND, yet have no remorse! A significant portion of general public in these countries is not educated enough and hence, easily fall into their trap.
I had always admired the politics of the west as the politicians were able to rise above their own and their party’s self interest and make decisions or support decisions that are in the interest of their nation. However, living in America for the last 17 years I have noticed a very prominent change in American politics. Leaders of the most powerful nation of the world, and the only surviving superpower, have started adopting the politics of the third world countries.
Last 8 years of Obama’s Presidency has shown us how the two parties have voted on party line basis on almost everything. Whether it is credit limit, healthcare or foreign policy - result is exactly the same. All the resources were constrained, decisions were delayed, embarrassment was caused across the globe and what not. But the politicians would not budge though America suffered hugely in the last 8 years. The economy was in dire straits 8 years back and has slowly started growing steadily over the years - but imagine how well it could have done if these politicians had gotten together on major issues that the country faced during this time.
Worst of all, politicians have been resorting to the fear politics through the use of lies and deception. Recent case is the meteor rise of Donald Trump who has used the politics of fear to an extreme extent - so much so that he has started hate politics as a tool to gain popular vote. I always felt that the general American public is educated and smart enough to understand his tactics and not fall victim to such tactics but now I realize that he is a conman of the highest caliber and hence, has been able to deceive the well intentioned people. Donald Trump, through his rhetoric and fear mongering has created two types of fears 1). Some people feel that America is being exposed to internal threat that no other politician in America is willing to talk about - and that only Trump can secure America once again. 2). rest of the people have the fear of Trump actually getting elected and what will happen to America if that actually happens. Elected or not, Trump has already created such a negative environment in the country that it has jeopardized all the good work that the fore fathers had done and he has put the constitution at stake.
As they say, great nations are not conquered from outside until they are destroyed from within. Donald Trump is not the first one to weaken the basic foundations of this great country. Partisanship has already caused so much damage to it already. However, what he has done is that he has accelerated the process of weakening its foundation. It took America hundreds of years to reach where it is right now but if Trump and partisanship is not stopped in time then it will only be a matter of time before we get caught up in our own mess. We need to figure out early how to stop this downward spiral or otherwise America will be joining the politicians of the third world countries, in spirit and action, very soon.

Third World America
I believe that America is on a path toward becoming a third world country. The down grade on the rating on our country's debt is just another measurable event in this path. My evidence for this is all around us. Last week was the anniversary of the 35W bridge collapse. I never thought that in America I would need to be concerned with the safety of the bridges that I drive on every day. And the infrastructure of this country continues to crumble. Our children, in many parts of the country, are learning backwards and inadequate science. Our children are learning about some sort of supernatural figure in their biology classes while others are passing us up. We are getting fatter. Industry controls what we eat (under minimal oversight) while we continue to become more unhealthy. The lack of access to health care worsens this. No one really seems to be alarmed by the increasing amount of food born illness outbreaks as a result of this system. Now, I don't think that buildings will begin to crumble around us. I just fear that we are going to be left behind in the next few decades of the productive part of my life, and will have little to pass on to the next.

I am writing this from my bed in the Southeastern region of the United States of America. I am profoundly unwell. In recent years I have been become physically ill, lost my career as a result of the illness and experienced a number of other hardships. I haven't been able to work in two years and I am losing everything.
I have tried for eight years to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment and have been repeatedly dismissed or misdiagnosed by doctors. My health is progressively getting worse. The last eight years of my life should have been spent traveling, finding a life partner, bearing children and advancing in my career. That's what I wanted at least. Instead I am losing everything I have ever worked for. I am now so ill I can barely leave my bed. I am in pain and experiencing a laundry list of debilitating symptoms. I have completely lost hope I will ever receive the healthcare I need to return to a normal life.
Prior to becoming ill I earned a very respectable income in a skilled trade and made great efforts to maintain my health. I was extremely fit due to frequent exercise and excellent nutrition. My story is not unique. Americans are repeatedly dismissed by healthcare professionals. Often patients are falsely accused of having anxiety or depression. This whole narrative is ridiculous, patients with depression or anxiety also develop disease and ailments; the presence of depression or anxiety does not negate the presence of disease. Doctors may run a couple of tests, then use those tests to invalidate patient's symptoms. There is never an intention of diagnosing and treating you.
My first cousin died of throat cancer after being repeatedly dismissed by American doctors. She left behind three children and a husband. She would have adopted more. My mother has been ill for a decade. She has wasted so badly that she is losing teeth due to malnutrition. These are not unique stories. This happens constantly in the US. Patients are denied adequate work ups because they are not believed. Additionally, most doctors simply do not want to deal with any cases which require time or effort to diagnose. Even in my mother's case in which she is OBVIOUSLY profoundly ill, there is no real attempt to help her.
At eight years into my quest for an accurate diagnosis I finally received a referral to an endocrinologist. The wait time for the endocrinologist is six months. The amount of additional suffering I will endure in this six months is immense. There is no assurance this man will help me. In fact, several of his reviews state that patients waited months to see him only to be dismissed. In many cases if you are able to get an accurate diagnosis the treatment can easily be denied by your insurance company. This leads to an administrative fight that healthcare professionals do not have the time to win for you. We can not even get healthcare with insurance. We are spending enormous amounts of money and never have our health issues resolved. The only resolve you will receive in America is death, and you will wish for it after years of poor health. Poor health definitively results in poverty for the average American.
