One of the greatest sources of income in Tsarasambo is the exportation of bananas. Men and women from all over the commune spend their days hiking into the hills to harvest bananas. Then they canoe what they’ve collected down the river to the market, where they fill up the ever eye-catching Banana Cars. I don’t really know where the bananas will go next and neither do most of the people who grow them. 🍌🍌🍌

Suzanne and Lynn Davis.
While I worked at the Green Hills Grille, this couple would come in from time to time and we would always strike up a good conversation as I walked them back to their table. They’re the nicest folks, who love good food, opera, and are basically professional gardeners. Though i’m nearly 10,000 miles away in Timor, while they are in Franklin, TN, we’ve kept up with each others lives through email, and i’m so grateful for how interested they are in the things that i’m doing. It’s funny how chance encounters can lead to great friendships, and I feel lucky to have a support system from all over the globe.

Good times and a successful torch passing at the annual Atlanta Area Returned Peace Corps Volunteers’ Holiday Potluck today. I was officially voted in as the 2018 President of AARPCV, so please address me accordingly: Madam President. 😂🤣🙌🏾 Congrats to the other Executive Board Members and thanks to the outgoing E-Board. 2017 was a hit... wish us luck in 2018! #OgunjobiAdministration Y’all ready for this? 😂🙌🏾 #PeaceCorpsLife #ThirdGoal (at Eventide Brewing)

It's been over 8 years since I've sat at those high school desks in Center Point. The building is now new, the windows have shades that automatically roll down at the touch of a button, and most of the juniors and seniors look older than me. But I remember what it was like to be a student in my small town. What it was like to have guest speakers come into class. Until today, I never thought I would have the chance be one myself. I wasn't there to convince anyone to leave the country or recruit the next generation of Volunteers. Today, my goal was to show at least one student that there's a world out there bigger than our small town. That the value of volunteering, whether it's in Peace Corps or in our own neighborhood, allows you to discover passion, widen your world view, and develop empathy for people who may look different and come from different cultures and experiences. That growth and learning happen when you are UNcomfortable, so what are you doing to push your own boundaries? Thank you Mrs. James for letting me share my experience with you and your class throughout my time in Uganda as well as inviting me back today to talk with students. Thank you Mrs. Krukenberg for being my most enthusiastic "student" in the room. And thank you CPU for welcoming me home and allowing me to be the speaker I wish I could have heard when I was the one sitting in those desks. #cpu #peacecorps #thirdgoal #bringithome #uganda #peacecorpsuganda #volunteer

Hello world,
I haven’t blogged in awhile but I promise things have been happening. I was talking recently with some volunteers and staff about Peace Corps “Third Goal” and some of the challenges of being a successful third goal volunteer. The Peace Corps Third Goal states: “To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.”  What I’ve realized is that as my life here in Moldova has become more normal, it’s become more difficult to see as anything but that. I’m not a writer. My blog started as a way to keep my friends and family at home up to date, and as a cathartic release of information on my experiences. But, perhaps because I’m not a writer, I’ve ceased to see much as exceptional enough to write about.  Oh, and I’ve been pretty busy. While I haven’t been blogging, I have written down a few topics I would like to blog about. Hopefully I get to them soon.
1. GLOW TOBE
2. Spring in Moldova/Martisor
3. Delivering a baby cow
4. My trip to Georgia
Soon, I promise!

I'm a little late celebrating Peace Corps Week, but here's a shot of me learning how to bake traditional bread (khubz/aghrom) in Morocco at my neighbor's house - this family included me in Ramadan and all festivities with their warm hospitality. #pcw2017 @peacecorps #bread #thirdgoal #pcmorocco @pcthirdgoal

From Chris Flowers: As part of our Youth Journalism Club grant project, students in Criuleni are talking with Simón Sotelo from the University of Cincinnati who is a professional in the Audio Video field. This is the first of many ways we will be connecting our Youth with Americans of all ages to help them with their skills and to promote an international conversation. #rcpc http://ift.tt/2gBNV1O

I came into the capital to accompany a current Peace Corps Trainee back from a brief visit in her future home. I tacked on a visit to the supermarket since, y'know, I was already in the city and I wanted the *good* sriracha. I found this display of bicycle license plates with common names on them. Sadly, they don't have my name, but I thought folks might enjoy seeing the names that did make the cut. In general, ames that are gendered masculine are on the left and those gendered feminine are on the right (though there are a few mixed around). #ThirdGoal #HowISeePC #PeaceCorpsMoldova (at Nr1 Hypermarket)

UNO and Mac & Cheese
So, 2 out of 3 PC goals are about culture exchange. So, here is my attempt. I played UNO and have my coworkers tried Mac & Cheese. I am sure I ruined whatever relationship I’ve built since I got here, and years of friendship among my coworkers. Lol. It is real people. There are shouting, yelling and most of all laughing. one asked me to go home and one told me to wash the bathroom. It was a great day.
During lunch, I made microwave Mac & Cheese, and shared it with everyone during lunch. Most of my coworkers tried it. I asked if they like it, and they said it tasted “Jaa” meaning it doesn’t have any taste at all, like eating plain white bread. One suggested adding lemon, chili, and fish sauce and then pan fried it instead. Got it. But I like mine with cheese. :)
