I feel a little bit sad that im moving from a more central area in Berlin to a more suburban one, but I think it’s just a matter of what i see outside my window changing. everyone says the area im moving to is wonderful except for the complete lack of nightlife. which like. i currently live in the nightlife hub of berlin and i have taken advantage of that exactly 0 times. in practical terms i would not be missing this. but idk i still feel a bit bad about it
#thinking of arcade fire’s suburbs#i was born in suburbia I grew up in suburbia and now im moving back to suburbia it’s like i can’t escape it#at least Berlin suburbia is more like Mumbai suburbia than US suburbia#in that it’s recognizably a city it’s just an area that’s more residential than commercial#that familiarity is soothing when I think of it like that actually. the area I grew up in in Mumbai wasn’t terrible it just wasn’t cool#but that doesn’t bother me now

Okay I know I said a month ago that I was going to consistently post about my game and then I proceeded to note make a single fucking post again. I had to con crunch my sweetheart cosplay which I didn't even finish in time. I'm still working on the cosplay and that's taking up most of my free time in the evenings, so I still can't really take the time to post about the game at this time. BUT I am still working on it and I've officially named it!
The game is called Godlike Reflections. It's a story in three acts (there'll also be a prologue that's unlocked after beating the game). So far there are 8 endings. The game is heavily based on Greek mythology. There's also inspiration from Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (lots of inspo here), AtLA, certain songs (playlist below), art from multiple periods between the 1400s-1900s (mostly renaissance, baroque, and neoclassical), black/white doomed yaoi🙏 (esp stsg), Omori, Baroque Decay games, Faith: The Unholy Trinity, manhwa tropes, and more that I can't think of rn. I want to make a game that has the features that I look for as a player: story rich, replayability, good music, and engaging gameplay. I want it to be rewarding for completionists and achievement hunters, like myself, while not being a slog for speedrunners.
Here's the barest of bones rundown of act one and two (I haven't decided what details I want to consider as spoilers yet, so I'm gonna hold off on giving act three info for now): There are twins (brother and sister) who are fighting their way towards the villain - the leader of the organization that destroyed their home and is trying to rule over everything. However, when they finally confront him, a pit opens up and the brother falls in. As he's falling, the villain dives in after him. The twins are separated and must find a way to reunite, but our hero and villain will have to learn to work together to escape the underground. During this time, the characters learn some hard truths, work on growing stronger, and find out who they are and what they want. Unfortunately, what one character wants isn't always in line with the desires of another.
I'll give some detailed info on the layout, characters, plot points, etc. in follow up posts. Just wanted to give these little pieces for now. I'm slowly learning how to draw, so don't expect any actual pics of characters for a while. I still know how they'll look though, so I'll post pics that show what I'm thinking of.
Here's a playlist I made of songs that either inspired aspects of the game (i.e., Murders by Miracle Musical [the ending is what made me come up with the game in the first place]), fit the vibe of the game (e.g., The Suburbs by Arcade Fire; Goth by Sidewalks and Skeletons), or might as well be character POVs during certain parts of the game (e.g., Goodnight, Travel Well by the Killers; Alien Blues by Vundabar; 505 by Arctic Monkeys; Nowhere to Run by Stegosaurus Rex).
#Godlike Reflections#game development#indie game dev#game design#oc#im excited to share the characters with yall soon#obvi its still just in the conception phase but once i figure out what mechanics i really want#then ill figure out what tools to use - i originally thought RPGMaker but idk if it can handle the features i want#weve got a long road ahead of us#i realize the description i gave is very generic and boring#but this post was long enough and i cant really delve into the exciting bits without going off#Spotify

Rules: list your ten favorite albums of all time and tag ten people to list theirs!
When it comes to music I would usually see a meme like this and start thinking of all the ways I could wax eloquently abt my favorite albums, but I am currently depleted of my ability to write atm bc i am mentally maxed out due to school, so here have the short version in no particular order.
The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. Fell in love with mcr the first time I saw them singing 'I'm not okay' on mtv2, but it wasn't really until Black Parade that I loved every song on one of their albums. I don't skip a single one when I listen to this.
The Archandroid by Janelle Monae. Love Janelle's older stuff more than her newer music with this album at the top. It's just a mixture of exactly what I like. Weird, quirky, and profound all at the same time.
Figure 8 by Elliott Smith. This album has always been great writing inspiration for me. His music, but this album in particular, appears on many of my mental and also actual playlists for my blorbos.
Little Plastic Castle by Ani DiFranco. When I was 18, I saw this album ranked as one to buy by some music magazine and so when I saw it a few months later at a CD store in the mall (remember those? or maybe you don't, you're all probably younger than me) I bought it on a whim. It was a good buy from my many MANY impulsive music buys over the years, bc it started my love for Ani's music. It was also my first foray into music that was somewhat against my upbringing ie conservative evangelical christian. Since then, I've seen Ani 6 times in concert and it's always been a good show.
Feel Good by The Internet. This is just the type of R&B that I love. Like Janelle Monae, it's a little strange with 8-minute-long songs that take twists and turns until they eventually morph into a completely different song, but it's an album I can play from start to finish.
When the Pawn ... by Fiona Apple. One of the few albums I wish I could get on vinyl but it's just way too expensive to justify spending on something i could easily listen to on the CD I bought ages ago (or more likely listening to on spotify). This album has been there for me at my lowest. Sometimes hearing someone else sing about bad breakups and being angry and sad over someone who hurt you, helps you cope with all the times you've had a fight with your SO or had a friend who ghosted you.
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire. Really sad that Win Butler turned out to be a garbage human bc I love this album, but find it hard to listen to now, knowing the band's lead singer is awful. There were other ppl in the band tho (a lot actually, it's a big band) so I figure I'll still add this album to my list for them and to be honest to myself.
Apollo 18 by They Might Be Giants. Flood was the first album I bought by tmbg, but Apollo 18 is the album I can listen to all the way through with the song Narrow Your Eyes being my fav. Considering how weird their music can get, Narrow Your Eyes is a pretty straightforward break-up song on an album that also contains songs like The Statue Got Me High and Hall of Heads.
The Con by Tegan and Sara. Call It Off is one of my most played songs ever, but this whole album is good and was my introduction to them. This was one of the last CDs I actually bought before I started just downloading everything with iTunes and then eventually moving on over to Spotify and buying vinyl.
Blackout by Britney Spears. Good for working out to when I used to work out and I just really love the song Heaven on Earth.
Honorable Mentions: Exile in Guyville by Liz Phair, Bionic by Christina Aguilera, Absolution by Muse, OK Computer by Radiohead, Same Trailer Different Park by Kacey Musgraves, Hounds of Love by Kate Bush, Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood, and Actor by St. Vincent
I tag: @trashangel-dee @alphamano @bethanyactually @ladybender @selkiestorytelleracademia @theangrypomeranian @vanessarama @leaving-a-comment and @dj-osha
And anyone else who would like to do this. Even if we're not mutuals go ahead and tag me. I'm always interested in seeing others' musical tastes.

🎶✨ When you get this, you have to write down 5 songs you actually listen to and post them. Then send this (ask or tag) to 10 cool ppl✨🎶
I know, I already did a similar thing today :p But I promise this will be my last!
Thank you @bast-sims for tagging!
I'll tag the first 10 accounts I see on my feed, you don't have to do it if you don't want to!:
@mainlyjustthesims, @simsaralove, @ashuriphoenix, @echoweaver, @nocturnalazure, @flotheory, @gifappels-stuff, @ice-creamforbreakfast, @vimpse, @getboolpropped
I'm going to be honest, I listen to the Life Is Strange Soundtrack a lot, but here are some other songs I listen to that aren't that (warning, it's genre wise, all over the place lol):
Got a few more in case anyone is curious :p
(I listen to Nick Cave a lot too, but i think this song I listen to the most).
(basically anything by Emma Ruth Rundle honestly).
(Their latest album is pretty good too! But I probably listen to "their "Don't wait til tomorrow" one the most)
Great cover of the song! Probably better than the original IMO :)
I could go on but I figured this is probably the best to stay at :p

1, 11, 25!
Thank you for asking, K!!
what's the best thing that happened to you today?
It's been very much a MONDAY today, so I don't know. Maybe coming home from work? And I'm going to go make a chicken stir fry in a few minutes...that will probably be the highlight of my day.
11. if you could live in any other decade, when & where would you choose?
answered here!
25. name three songs that stir up the deepest emotions.
Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac because it reminds me of my aunt who died when I was young...she loved that song.
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire...I'm not even fully sure why, but that song really gets me. I think part of it is because I listened to it A LOT when I was in law school, which was a very difficult time.
Amen by Amber Run for 911 Lone Star related reasons--I always get teary when that one comes up in the playlist.

How have I never once in my entire life seen any of the lettergate truthers use the song “We Used to Wait” by Arcade Fire as inspiration for posts or fics? Because—
—I mean. Maybe Arcade Fire isn’t as common core as it used to be, but…this song (and tbh a lot of The Suburbs as a whole) feels like absolutely the song of everything I’ve seen the homies describe LMAO
(Figured I could take a break from analysis and say this finally, because it came up on my shuffle & made me think byler lol)
#byler#lettergate#ITS SUCH A GOOD SONG SHJDKDNDJD#iconic core album for my teen years too lol#my st commentary#stranger things

Because you mentioned some stuff on Arcade Fire's 2010 album "The Suburbs"
what are your favourite or most notable to you songs from the album?
what are your feelings towards the album?
what other Arcade Fire's albums/songs you like?
My fav song on the album is probably "the suburbs" being the titular track and all, it was the first I heard on the album. Up until now I thought Neighborhood 1 2 & 3 were on the suburbs album but I think they're in "funeral" which is probably my favorite album. Honestly it's hard for me to describe how I feel about the album overall since each song is sorta.. well they all sorta connect to different memories of when I first started listening to them. I've been a fan of their music for a long time. I haven't heard much of their recent stuff if there's been any, the suburbs album was their third and that's the most recent I heard. I've only heard a few songs from the Neon Bible album, but I liked that one a lot too. Overall, Funeral stands out as a favorite of mine mostly for nostalgia reasons. All of their songs came at the right time for me I think. Right when I really needed something like that. They still stick with me and I listen to a few of their songs on a regular basis, they're fun to sing but I don't have the same vocal range as the singer does so I have to change key a lot asdkfkdmd my newest favorite is probably "The Well and The Lighthouse". Idk what it is about Arcade Fire but they have a way of conjuring a specific atmosphere with each of their songs that sorta traps you in the story of the song in particular. I'm rather fond of the way that most if not all of their songs do tell a story rather than just express a feeling.
#smokey answers#thank u 4 the ask! not too many ppl i know listen to the arcade fire but my friend circle all do and weve been listening 2 them foreverrr

Idk if this will interest anyone else, but I really want to talk about the songs “Ready to Start” and “Suburban War” by Arcade Fire as John and Paul (and George, and Ringo) songs. As “I need to leave the Beatles”/“I miss the Beatles” songs.
Here’s the bulk of the lyrics to “Ready to Start” (mostly a John song to me—but I think Paul and George also felt this in turns):
- If the businessmen drink my blood / Like the kids in art school said they would / Then I guess I’ll just begin again. / You say, “Can we still be friends?” / If I was scared, I would / And if I was bored, you know I would / And if I was yours… / but I’m not.
- All the kids have always known / That the emperor wears no clothes / But they bow down to him anyway / Because it’s better than being alone
- Now you’re knocking at my door / Saying, “Please come out with us tonight” / But I would rather be alone / Than pretend I feel alright
- I would rather be wrong / Than live in the shadows of your song
- My mind is open wide / And now I’m ready to start / You’re not sure you’ll open the door / And step out into the dark / But now I’m ready
And then there’s “Suburban War”, which feels like the response or sequel—note the reuse of the line “shadows of your song.” (And btw, I think the idea of “the suburbs” here acts as a representative for any shared world of an adolescent friend group.)
- My old friends, it was so different then / Before your war against the suburbs began
- Now the music divides us into tribes / You grew your hair, so I grew mine / You said the past won’t rest / until we jump the fence and leave it behind
- My old friends, I can remember when / you cut your hair, I never saw you again / Now the cities we live in could be distant stars / And I’ll search for you in every passing car
- I’ve been living in the shadows of your song
- But you started a war that you can’t win / And keep erasing all the streets we grew up in / Now the music divides us into tribes / You choose your side, I’ll choose my side
- All my old friends, they don’t know me now / All my old friends are staring through me now / All my old friends, they don’t know me now! / All my old friends, wait
#it feels funny to do the fandom game of ‘this song is so them/so this story’ when they literally wrote their own songs about it all but#these happen to be a couple of my favorites#I relate to them and#I can’t help thinking now they just really fit#it’s about … growing up and the pain of outgrowing your childhood friendships#or the confusion at why it happened#specifically with artistically bonded friends?#‘now the music divides us into tribes’#‘living in the shadow of your song’#‘you grew your hair so I grew mine’ is so literally them. like !!
