Chaos Theory was fantastic, genuinely one of my favorite additions to the Jurassic Franchise in a while!! I’m looking forward to season 2 a lot. Massive applause to all of those who worked on the show, it came together beautifully.
Here’s a comic titled “Two Sides of the Same Coin” that I threw together after finishing the show. (major spoilers ahead, like seriously, MAJOR spoilers)
I’ve noticed that Ben and Brooklynn are mirrors to each other in Chaos Theory. They parallel each other in ways that are easy to miss if you don’t think too hard on it
Brooklynn is everything Ben could’ve become if he hadn’t been grounded by Darius in the initial stages of his paranoia. Ben is everything Brooklynn could’ve become had she not been too occupied with theories to notice she was getting to the point of being too far gone. They had a wonderful friendship before Brooklynn’s “death” and I’m intrigued to see where the show-runners take it when Brooklynn and Ben inevitably reunite.

Jurassic World Chaos Theory and how it handles its Queer Characters/Audience
(This may get long+it will have S3 spoilers so everything under cut!)
Disclaimer before I get into this because I know some of y'all like to tussle:JWCC/CT does have great queer rep, I am in no way saying it doesn't, especially with the inclusion of sapphic woc as well as its couple confirmed queer bg characters; HOWEVER, whether the rep itself is good or not, does not leave it untouchable by criticisms.
Into my points,
As I've mentioned before, it is abundantly clear that JWCT has different writers than JWCC, and I think their treatment of queerness does play a lot into that.
First of all, the elephant in the room, Yasammy, and their comparisons. I'm going to be blunt with this one, showcasing the rough patch in Yasammy's relationship by highlighting how healthy and in love the white het couple was was a completely irresponsible and tasteless decision on the writer's part. Why? I've seen a couple takes saying that there was no other way to do it, if they made Gia poc then it would've made it look like being with the white man was a better opt, if Ben was in an mlm relationship it would've shown that mlm have it better, etc. Here's the thing, they didn't have to do it, period.
There are ways to showcase Yasammy's struggles without fuelling the insanely homophobic/misogynistic side of the fandom, which we all unfortunately know exist. Look at swrve, dude immediately took Bengia as a way to shit on Yasammy, look at people like V*dim, I've seen so many takes on tiktok/twt etc. Repeating the same shit, talking about how Bengia is based and Yasammy were right to break up. We knew that side of the fandom existed, the showrunners knew that side of the fandom existed, and yet they still went with the thing that would "cause more drama" and therefore turned multiple safe spaces for young queer people into unsafe zones. Sure, you could argue that they don't have to write for the fandom, however, with the way queer people are treated in media constantly, you must take responsibilty when it comes to writing them in a way that could make things unsafe for queer people within your fandom. Though, aside from that, it was simply overall tasteless and lazy, I'm sorry, but it was. If they REALLY needed to show a healthy relationship vs unhealthy, they could've used Kenji and Darius.
As for Ben, this is a lot more of a— nuanced? Take. Now, I came into the fandom somewhat late, however, from my understanding, the crew had always been active within the fandom, and I'm sure they've seen just how many queer kids saw themselves in Ben, in his self discovery, quite frankly if they ran with it, Ben's story would've been a fantastic queer allegory. No, they didn't need to go and make Benji/Benrius canon, however, I've seen some people say that the whole gf thing felt like a way to be like "okay now stop saying hes gay" which honestly? I agree with. As I stated in my post about Bengia, their relationship fell flat to me, overperformed, disingenuine, and just generally fake. The writing team seems to have had trouble writing Ben in general in CT, but it REALLY showcases that when they introduced Bengia. Meanwhile, his relationships with the guys did have a basis, it did have chemistry that I'm sorry but Bengia simply does not have. If I'm being totally honest, a lot of Benji's writing in CT feels like the writers knew how much the fandom loves Benji, decided to hold ot right in front of our noses and then take it away. I don't like to use the word queerbaiting a lot, but it does genuinely feel like queerbaiting to me.
With the way they played up Gia being "fake", the way they acted about her in s1+the lack of any mentione of her in s2 felt like leadup to her not being real, and quite frankly I can't think of any reasons other than a lazy attempt at shock value that thwy would've had the others so deadset on Ben faking it, it felt cruel and out of character for all of them.
Sure, s4 has the chance to fix a few of these issues, but unfortunately overall my view of the show and its treatment of queer characters/it's queer audience has been tainted, which sucks because CC did it so well.
Btw, just to make it abundantly clear, if I see any comments or replies claiming that queer people being upset is any way "white knighting" or being too "woke" you will be automatically blocked. Keep your homophobia out of my notifs.

Chaos Theory Season 3: part 3
Yk when I said I was actually ok with dinostar in season 1, then season 2 made me hate them? I'm not throwing lies around, that was actually the case. And season 3? While it has not repared the damage done in season 2 in my eyes, I found all their interactions endearing (I mean, I was always the biggest dinostar besties stan).
So I'm gonna speak about that scene in episode 7 in what I think is good faith and I really wish to know dinostar shippers opinion on it.
Brooklynn! Good luck Superstar
You too Dinonerd
That scene? Adorable. That's the dinostar I love. Absolutely adorable. But am I tripping or is this not the most adorable friendzone confirmation for a potential ship to have ever hit the screen?
I am not going to pretend that all the angst has disappeared btw them, Brooklynn's reaction when Darius implied that she had betrayed them in the last episode shows that there are still unresolved issues between them. But am I the only one thinking that their story has been evolving too quickly in season 3 if it was to be a big focus in season 4?
Kenji and Brooklynn will be a big focus next season (whether they end up together or not), just as Yaz and Sammy will be, it's inevitable.
But Darius and Brooklynn? They're already pretty much on good terms. Darius has forgiven Brooklynn, and it looks like Brooklynn is already on her way to forgive Darius. The only shadow that's left is, as I said, the fact that he abandonned her that night and Darius' confession...
Which they are probably going to adress as soon as episode one hits. They're stuck in an helicopter together, and will spend the first episode together. The team won't regroup with Sammy and Kenji before AT LEAST episode 3. They will have to address the elephant in the room at the start of the season, before we even get a glimpse at the angsty shit show that Kenlynn is shaping out to be.
And so, going back to that scene. The way they call each other Superstar and Dinonerd, to me, seems like the confirmation that they'll remain friends, before we hear them actually say it at the start of the next season. I don't know if you see what I mean? Like, to me it felt like the both reaffirming their friendship. Because that's their besties nickname and it has always been. I feel like that scene was a direct answer to the one where Darius felt anxious about bringing up his confession to Brooklynn. All he had to do was show her that he was still willing to be her best friend by calling her the way he used to do back when they were kids. And by calling him dino-nerd, she showed that that was what she wanted too.

hello friends !!
i recently was able to get my hands on the Chaos Theory Novelization of s2 book and wanted to share some of the benji scenes because they made me Lose my Mind a little
(what’s new man)

kenji being upset ben isn’t giving him the attention he’s been trying to garner … (him pointing out how far from the others they are // him bringing bumpy’s egg baby into this)

BENJI BOAT SCENE 😭🫶🏻 HONESTLY GUYS.. if i had zero context of this show … i would be so convinced ben was about to give an aborted love confession …
“were you gonna tell me something?”
“oh uh- wasn’t important. you got a lot on your mind” OK????

BENJI AND THE BROOKLYNN REVEAL / BEGINNING OF THE FIGHT …. man. oh man. the fact we get to know what was really goin’ on in kenji’s mind when he witnessed it. GODDD…

*THE* BENJI FIGHT … 😕 sad they took out the bit where kenji cried (that also a storyboarder told us about before) but glad they at least decided to keep it in the book! oh my heart man.

and then finally … this one. i think this shows just how hurt kenji truly is by the entire situation- and completely shows how everyone else comes from more of a place of concern whereas kenji is coming at it with anger.
this is the part that really showcased to me just how important building ben and kenji’s bond back up is going to be- and that this won’t just be tossed under the rug and forgotten (unlike past arguments… but hey what do i nose)
(also tiny dinostar crumbs. darius not giving a fuck about the lying and only focusing on the fact the love of his life is alive ?!?! I’m going to cry)
anyway hope you guys enjoy :> there were a few tinier moments spread out here and there but i felt these were the most important!! if you are curious i will post!

I already said this, but saying it again: I fully believe that one of the conflicts the rest of the Nublar 6 are gonna have with Brooklynn when she reunites with them is not just gonna be for the whole 'did you seriously fake your death and let us mourn you for months', or the whole 'why were you buying a dinosaur', because the obvious answer for me, as I already said before, is that she was either trying to infiltrate or gather proof to dismantle the black market (I might be wrong, though). No, I think that obviously it'll truly upset them that she'd faked her death, but I think they all will likely understand and believe her when she explains what she was doing with the whole dinosaur thing. What will bother them is that she did all of that alone.
Like, one of the things that are repeated several times in Camp Cretacious and that Chaos Theory repeats again is that the reason the Nublar 6 survived everything they went through is because they all had each other (and Bumpy obviously, she's Camp Fam as well). They weren't always perfect, but they were a team, friends and a family, they relied on each other, and they worked together. That's how they made it. They weren't alone.
Now, Brooklynn? She kept all she was doing from them. She seemed to have probably wanted to tell Darius about it that night, but didn't have the chance. She kept secrets and did everything alone, without relying on any of them. And that's not how the Nublar 6 do things. That's why for example Kenji feels conflicted about her, and doubts because buying a dinosaur for her own benefit is something that the Brooklynn they know —that we all know— would never do. But none of them can understand why she'd hide what she was doing. It's probably because Brooklynn knew what she was doing was dangerous and didn't want any of them getting involved and all of that, but still: doing things on her own without relying on any of them goes against literally everything the shows tell us, that they survived because they weren't alone. And Brooklynn was trying to do things alone. And that's simply not how the Nublar 6 work. I think it's probably something that's gonna be brought up again once they all reunite, that they manage to do things because they're not alone. They're stronger together.

I'm sure that many people are going to disagree with me but personally I think that post-Chaos Theory season 2 events Kenji and Brooklynn shouldn't get back together (and it's probably been a long time coming event).
And I have an explanation.
Before any of you bring out your pitch forks - yes, I admit, I was never a big fan of brookenji BUT I understand how they could have developed feelings for each other. Spending so much time together, relying on each other every day, sharing semi-similar experiences prior-Isla Nublar, not to mention simple attraction - those are all valid reasons as to why they could have fallen in love. And, hear me out, I think that their relationship worked well for as long as they tangibly experienced the aftermaths of Isla Nublar/Mantah Corp Island on the Main Land.
What do I mean by that? When you are going through an experience with someone, especially a traumatic experience, you may still kind of feel rooted in that experience even once it ends. It doesn't necessarily mean stagnation - during that time you can develop as a person, and gather new experiences, but a part of you is still living as if it expects to go back to the old ways. That means that you still follow a similar routine, cultivate the same habits, or keep up the same mindset.
However, as time progresses, you naturally move on. Kenji and Brooklynn could still have experienced some side-effects of living on dino-infected island but their minds moved on and started "settling" on the Main Land. Now that on its own - is not a problem. The problem (well, part of it) is that their threads of development started to stray apart. And I want to emphasize here - it is no one's fault, it is a natural occurrence.
By the end of jwcc S5 and in the first season of jwct, we can clearly notice how it is important for Kenji to have something (and someone) to anchor in. That is not surprising at all - he was a mostly neglected child, who saw a hero in his father but who found a real family in his friends. Perhaps that was his first real experience of a family. Naturally, because of that, "family" suddenly (compared to pre-jwcc Kenji) has a whole different value for him, he starts to associate family with new things like safety, mental comfort, stability, and proximity. We see it not only in how he treats Darius in the finale of jwcc S5 but in how, despite it all, he stays in close proximity to Daniel Kon in jwct S1 - because yes, he (probably subconsciously) extended some of these new aspects of a newly discovered "family" even to Daniel. This explains even better his very emotional reaction to Daniel's death - losing a member of a family is almost like a taboo in Kenji's concept of "family". Staying alive was the top priority on Isla Nublar, being alive together was what made the Nublar 6 family real and safe.
I think, to some extent, a member of a family dying itself Kenji almost treats like an act of betrayal (remember that his mother also died when he was a child).
And now we have Brooklynn who not just dies but fakes dying. And Kenji hates deceit - especially after he was lied to by his own father - a member of his "original" family. And here we have Brooklynn - a member of the found family doing the same thing but even worse. She had her reasons, and her reasons are justified, but the justification of something isn't enough to rebuild a shattered core value / core belief for someone else. Listen, Brooklynn can be forgiven but it doesn't mean that Kenji will be able to restore what they had. Like physically and mentally it may actually be impossible for him.
Now it's time for Brooklynn's side.
Brooklynn is a very interesting character on her own because there's one thing that is unchangeable about her and it's the fact that she likes being independent. She was basically a solo internet superstar who was used to doing things on her own throughout her whole life. Now, it doesn't mean that she doesn't need friends or that she can accomplish everything on her own - no, and throughout jwcc (and I predict that jwct is going to make a point out of it too) she learns how to reach out for help and how to help others. She's a good friend - even her motivations in jwct are deeply rooted in the fact that she is just a really incredible friend. But! That is not the only catalyst for her motivations. She is also ambitious and, like I said earlier, very independent. Both of these are very strong, often dominant traits that heavily define her actions. And listen - those are also traits that for a very long time granted her success and, what's more important, self-satisfaction. To put it plainly: it makes her happy when she can solve mysteries, track suspicious leads, uncover secrets - it has always been her thing! And it obviously makes her happy to this day - maybe it's not as carefree happiness but I believe that it's just a more adult version of the same "emotional high". And not only does it make her happy - she's also incredibly good at it.
It doesn't mean that for Brooklynn the Sense of Adventure is more important than family and friends, it just means that stability is not the value she has as much space for as Kenji does. Because for Kenji, whose whole life centers around creating a solid concept of family and home, a sense of safety and stability is a key value, Brooklynn on the other side is always ready to be on the move, she anticipates dynamism from the world. And that's why Kenji, who's slower and more anxious (even if he doesn't voice it out openly!) to accept changes, doesn't quite keep up with her lifestyle.
Post leaving Isla Nublar, the campers (including Kenji and Brooklynn) started developing in new ways - they picked up new traits, gained new experiences, and started figuring out what works best for them. In my opinion, Kenji's life led him to the point where he had to quite physically sculpt his life on his own for the first time and this process takes years. It doesn't mean that he's boring or, god forbid, lazy - it means that as a person in so many ways shaped by a changing concept of family, he needs to build a house for himself - mostly metaphorically. Only recently he started rock-climbing, and found out that he loved it - that's amazing but he needed time and a proper state of mind to figure it out. We can only guess how the rest of his life unfolds but I tentatively predict that some kind of stability - being able to turn around and see the person you love always there and will always reassure you - will be a core value for him. Brooklynn, with a different personality type, clearly picked up some parts of her life that she had before Isla Nublar. She didn't have to build everything from scratch and, ergo, doesn't value the "building" itself as much as Kenji. None of them are wrong in their mindset, in what they value. But having a different mindset makes it much much harder to reach a common ground in a relationship.
And I'm temporarily putting aside that Brooklynn betrayed Kenji on so many levels and basically broke his heart - in a way, I would argue that (though I feel like she was too harsh when she was talking about it with Darius) Brooklynn could also feel as if Kenji hurt her by not giving her enough credit and space which probably was uncomfortable for her because she is, as we established, very independent. So both of them hurt each other in different aspects for sure (this post doesn't aim to put blame on any of them), but the thing is that I think they just grew up to be different people with different needs.
And that's okay.
(I'm sure some of you are going to be mad either way but I just wanted to share my point of view)

Chaos Theory – Theories
Gotta admit that I watched the trailer a few times already, and some theories had been showing up in my head. I decided to write them here to share them and mainly to comeback after the season drops to see which ones I got right.
Two Stories
The main one I had, and I had seen comments also mention it, is that we will see two main stories this season – the Camp Fam in the strange island and Brooklynn’s side of her accident. It was revealed at the end of season one that she was alive, so I think they won’t leave us hanging for long to tell us what happened the night of the back and where Brooklynn’s had been hiding all this time.
Sorna and Nublar 2.0
Season one ended with the Camp Fam jumping into a boat towards an unknown location, the trailer shows us that they left that boat (on accident or voluntarily pending to be confirmed) and arrived at what seems to be a version of Sorna but abandoned. The place is plagued with deserted facilities used to create dinosaurs, along with some dinosaurs in the wild. My theory is that the boat was directed to the version of Nublar, but the Fam arrived at this one instead. Along with the idea that the islands are maybe a backup made by InGen or the MantaCorp version of what Jurassic World had. Judging by the state of the facilities, my theory is also that they suffered the same fate as the original.
Dinosaur Liberation
We had a big revelation on the trailer and it knowing that Ben knew Brooklynn was alive. Ben throwed away his and Darius phone at beginning of season one, so I’m guessing he knew before the season started. In one of the flashbacks, it is told that Ben was the one showing Brooklynn the Dark Jurassic website, after her death he may had been a little to involved with the site and found the “Dinosaur Liberation” movement which led him to the clip showed in the trailer.
My theory here is that Brooklynn was the one that warned Ben about the Nublar Six being targeted. After her accident, she may have gone full spy hacker and figure out what happened. She then reached Ben knowing that from all of them, he was the one that would believe her.
Camp Fam learning Brooklynn is alive
My theory for this one is quite a stretch, but I believe Brooklynn is behind the entire liberation thing and that the islands showed on the trailer are the safe haven they are trying to build for the dinosaurs. If the Fam went to explore the places, they could have found evidence of Brooklynn being alive and confront Ben about it (when he doesn’t seem surprised or confess?) Another option is Brooklynn being at that island and the group finding her.
Bonus note: Can’t my girl catch a break??

As a fan of Camp Cretaceous, were there characters in particular you were excited about writing for when you came onto the team for Chaos Theory? Did any surprise you as being more engaging than you initially thought?
Day 03 of Rocket Answers in honor or Jurassic World: Chaos Theory S3 premiering on 04/03! Keep sending me your questions!
//
Ya know, I'm such a sucker for an ensemble that I don't really think there was any one character in particular whose story I was more interested in telling from a writer's standpoint. They were all so richly defined in CC that it was truly just so exciting to get to continue seeing what new shenanigans they would get into, and what pains we could force upon them.
To try to get a little more specific, when I heard Scott's pitch that Darius was going to feel responsible for the death of one his other friends and it was going to lead us into this whole thriller-vibe of a show, especially within S1, that was extremely exciting for me as a writer getting his first full-time staffing gig. Before CT I was a script coordinator and had written some freelance episodes of other shows, but none that had this level of intrigue or that took pre-established characters and really put them through the ringer. So being able to stretch those writerly muscles on a show that required so much forethought and planning was pretty great.
I think I've also commented before on how much I really connected with Kenji's relationship to his father in a lot of ways, so getting to write "Halfway Home" (which I requested to write before episode assignments were even handed out) was extremely special for me. I really loved getting to write that conflict, as well as Kenji's conflict with Darius in "The Drop." Oh, and the scenes between Brooklynn and Santos in "Troubled Waters" were *chef's kiss*. I love getting to bookend this quieter moments with action/horror beats. XD
And, obviously, getting the chance to write a complicated but still pretty healthy queer relationship with Yaz and Sammy healed a lot of childhood wounds, not gonna lie.
In terms of who surprised me as being far more engaging than I would have expected... I'd say Ben. Not because I didn't like him as much as the others, but I think *I* thought I knew him better than I did, so while we explored who he was and how he changed since CC, there were a lot of things about him I hadn't even considered, and ways he wound up responding to situations that took me by surprise. So that was also a lot of fun.

WELCOME BACK FOLKS FOR A J.U.H.RASSIC GRAND FINALE, I’m your host Jo, here with:
The Summary Report
I have completed 27 interviews from every JWCT blog I could find with their asks open. This is our sample. In these interviews I asked the question: “WHAT one thing are YOU most excited to see in s3 of chaos theory?”
NOTE: this survey was conducted ON TUMBLR which contributes a drastic bias to all results, especially in terms of ships. I am aware. I also don’t give a shit as ask games are a tumblr exclusive site mechanic.
The name of the game here is Jo Unboxes the Hype and that is exactly what I aim to do — gather input on what exactly the wider fandom is most looking forward to with season 3 (maybe even test how it measured up to the “hype” after) and measure the results.
There is one hour left until the season releases, so without further adiue, here are those results:
First up, Character Interest
This bar graph covers every N6 member plus our three spotlight additions this season. One point was tallied for each time a character was mentioned by an interviewee as someone they were specifically interested in seeing.
This distinction from ‘every time a characters name is mentioned’ is important because many are looking forward to seeing the aftermath of a specific S2 scene that won’t even involve the character responsible for it, as such input that exclusively mentioned the character’s name for the sake of referencing the scene were not counted
Our MOST HYPED character is The Handler with 11 Individual mentions.
In descending order after that it is Brooklynn (10), Soyona (8), Yaz (7), Sammy (7), Gia (7), Ben (6), Kenji (5), and Darius (4).
It is notable to mention that Sammy and Yaz each only got 2 individual mentions each, with the rest being due to Yasammy. Speaking of:
Let’s talk Shipping
Here we have two separate pie charts - one comparing expressed interest in specific ships and the second using the same data to compare the slash types of said ships.
*Honorable mention to the 1 interview that brought up platonic Samji
To the suprise of absolutely no one our MOST HYPED ship this season is Yasammy with 7 individual mentions.
However, let’s break it down further than that. Coming in as the second biggest ship is Lab Partners/Brokerlynn with (5) mentions, followed by BenGia (4) in third. Tied were Benji and Whistlelight/Raptormoms with (3) each. Shockingly, even Dinomite (2) was discussed more than Dinostar (1) despite the latter ship’s semi-canon status.
Overall, f/f has dominated the graph, both making up 3/7 of the ships brought up AND receiving a total 15 mentions. In comparison there was an equal ratio of m/m to f/m (5).
Focused Plot Points
Of course, characters and ships aren’t the end all be all of a show - the story itself is the whole point! With the cliff hangers s2 left us on, combined with what was seen in the trailer, there has been a LOT of desires as to what everyone wants to see covered. Now, typically this would be a very personal/individual question - every fan wants to see something different, right? And for the most part this rang true, however three specific focus points were mentioned across interviews.
Aftermath of the airport scene (9)
Brooklynn’s spiraling situation (8)
Bumpy’s baby (5)
Luckily these are all things we know will actually be covered in the show but WOW are people ready to see them be unpacked
Thoughts?
Honestly this whole thing has been very fun and imo really has made the wait more enjoyable. As I type this last paragraph there are 3 minutes to the season’s release. When I started sending out asks (initially just a few to my friends, before I had realized The Potential of the reporter schtick) we still had over 2 days to go. I think the largest benefit of a small fandom is the opportunity provided to have these discussions. The community here (specifically here, on tumblr) is an amazing one.
Here’s to season 3, let’s hope it’s a stunner. This is your host Jo Knight, signing off. Roll credits guys!! 💫

A little silly thought, I interpret brooklynn's green side of hair dye as how much she has been corrupted (by diving too deep into the whole broker situation).
As the chaos theory started out, we're given little hints about her appearance through the campers' flashbacks, and it was known that she had been investigating for a while and ended her relationship with kenji before she was found dead. The green dye during the flashback scenes and s2 ep 3 (as we're finally getting a full explanation of how she survived) took almost half of her pinkish-purple hair, which is in a pretty worrying state tbh, almost half the full story, almost getting half of the chaos *ba dum tchhh
Right so, after she lost her arm and everything, she made a final decision to continue the investigation and took a deep dive into the bottom of it. And with that stuff in mind, her hair is now fully dyed green, symbolizing how there's no turning back as she's fully corrupted. Another thing to add is that her pinkish-purple color made up a perfect (or almost, depends on what color wheel that showed the color line-up, but I found this one a lot and damn bro, it fits) complementary color with green/light green.
I'd love to mention that there's a little canon hint of meaning explanation for her pinkish-purple hair, and it's actually an accident lmao, and this probably means that it was her intention from the start to dye it fully green. BUT I still saw it as a cool subtle visual hint so that the audience can have their own interpretation, like this :3 because y'know what's more interesting about that scene itself? The follow-up right after that "purple dye accident" joke from yaz. The literal gut-wrenching IRONY when sammy said "Let me guess? You're LEAVING US AGAIN?" and darius followed with "ABANDON US WOULD'CHA??". Maybe in a way, this purple dye DOES symbolize Brooklynn's change. The usual bright pink color started to dim out as purple and slowly inverted to green the deeper she went into this rabbit hole.
This one is just me bragging things up lol, as it seems that yaz was the only one who knew about her purple hairdye accident. It subtly adds another depth to brooklynn's reckless behavior of making a morally good change and yet sacrificing herself fully on the matter, because when she's with her camp fam they'd be ready to back her up and she would end up being safe (ex in s3 of cc where she got captured by dr wu). In a way, that purple dye could represent that she's still got her friends to slow her down and think more about her safety, when the green dye represents her fully alone and making decisions her friends can not interfere.
Something else I associated with death and the color green, is how it could be represented as a living dead or zombie (yes, I'm referencing plants vs zombies and yes, hear me out lmfaoooo). To the n5's perspective, the last time they remembered brooklynn was when she was still having that side of purple dye, as if she's still alive (though slowly infected), and then suddenly they met again with her when her hair was fully green, at first the n5 thought that she's still alive but then throughout the ending, she made sure (though that was only an act) that who they're seeing is truly dead, it was only the corpse that wonders around and became their enemy instead
anddd that's all, don't take this one seriously i just wanna yap about brooklynn's hair after i saw this analysis lmaoaoaooao (check it out pls it's cool!!)

making a headcanon post inspired by @throneofrayllum ‘s chaos theory couples as parents post. it’s been a minute since i’ve made fankids and i miss them 😅
anyway!
yasammy: definitely girl moms, 100%. they wouldn’t know what to do with a son lol, sammy has only sisters and yaz is an only child who seems to have mostly or exclusively raised by her mom (this is lighthearted though, if they had a son of course they would love him unconditionally)
i’m becoming very attached to the idea of them having identical twin girls first. if this timeline has the technology to create dinosaurs then i’m saying they have the technology to allow same sex couples to have biological children together! they intended to start with one, but the egg split and they got identical twins. not entirely sure which of them carried the babies at the moment, i could be convinced either way
their third daughter is one they started out fostering. she’s older than the twins when they take her in, probably a preteen. although it seems the world is more accepting at this point, some negative views still exist. this little girl came out as transgender to her family, and they couldn’t accept it, which is how she ended up in the system. i think yasammy would be fantastic foster parents. sammy has experience with family difficulties, and both of them have done a lot to work through their trauma. when their girl is a teenager she asks them to formally adopt her, and officially become their daughter — though she already was for a long time before that
dinostar: again, girl parents. darius screams girl dad energy and i cannot ignore it
they only have one baby, and their daughter is the absolute light of their life. darius spoils her half to death. she very much has brooklynn’s spunk and personality, but she’s every bit the dino-nerd her dad is
bengiakenji: i’m jumping on this train and i cannot be stopped!!!
not sure where they’d end up living in the future. part of me thinks the states as that’s where ben and kenji live and where gia went to school, but i could also see them just as happily settling in gia’s little italian hometown. wherever they go, nonna absolutely comes with them. she dotes on their kids, and those kiddos grow up eating the best meals in the world every day
they have a boy first, and for kenji it is the most healing experience of his life. being able to be the kind of dad to his son he wished he had… he takes to it like a duck to water, he was always meant to be an amazing dad
they have a daughter next, i’m thinking 3-4 years later. they’re very close siblings. i like to think their girl is the very sporty, outdoorsy kid compared to her brother. she loves rock climbing with dad kenji and exploring dig sites with her mama. conversely, their son is a bit shyer, preferring to stay inside and read. he’s a bit more like pre-nublar ben, minus the anxiety and germophobia
i could possibly see them having another kid when the first two are older, like middle or high school, but i haven’t fully solidified that idea yet haha
these are just my preliminary thoughts, i definitely plan to flesh them out more in the future :)

Closing thoughts on the Chaos Theory Season 1 Novelisation:
It was, by far, the most insightful of all six books. Not because "oh it provided so much information that wasn't in the show", but because it had a lot of differences from the final version that made it to our screens. Some of which weren't just things like summarized dialogue, a cut line or two, or omitted scenes (though there were two whole adventures that we didn't see in the book, which ran at 140 pages to the second season's 144)...there were some actual story beats that changed.
Most notable was Darius apparently receiving Brooklynn's final message in the early drafts (though he does seem to see it for the first time at its proper moment, which probably suggests that they went back and forth on how to do it). Even in the message itself, Brooklynn calls out for Darius before the Allosaurus shows up, thinking she's hearing him. That's a more minor change, but it makes a difference.
The book also, notably, does not reveal Brooklynn at the end. There is no final scene with her and Ronnie. Part of me suspects that they actually didn't include the scene in the initial first season scripts, in order to keep it Fully Hush Hush (in the same way she was kept out of all the marketing and toy lines), but regardless, it's something impressive.
There are a few additional dinosaurs in scenes, and the Suchomimus on the docks of Louisiana was originally a Baryonyx (they probably got the Sucho model up and running in time to use it, and took her for a test drive on the docks). There are a few potential early-draft spoilers* included (Ben saying his girlfriend is Italian, Brooklynn freezing as she sees something besides the Allosaurus on the camera, Sammy connecting her falling out to the ranch) , and Ben's paranoia is pretty much nonexistent in the entire book, so overall, it very much feels like the first season was in production almost up until the deadline.
Which makes sense--the second season's book came out long after the show itself (*points again to the moratorium on Brooklynn's survival*), so it's quite probable that they've actually been working with a good schedule. All of this, I might add, is speculation, outside of whatever I'm citing. But the beautiful abstract picture you get from the lines that connect a show to its adaptation do paint a very beautiful picture here.
I will also note that the book is very solidly written: it feels much, much more like the Lost World novelization I read fifty times as a kid, or the Godzilla 1998 one. Those ruled, because they had to be adaptations that could keep people hooked on your product without YouTube clips or online picture galleries. Both Chaos Theory novelizations feel like those.
BONUS FACT: The novelization of The Lost World includes the deleted scenes of Ludlow's board meeting, Roland Tembo being recruited by Ajay (minus the sexual harassment and brownface), and the scene where Ludlow breaks the baby T. rex's leg (with more surprise and less alcohol). It's another window into how things change.
The first book does feel stronger than the second one, though, on account of the fact that it takes its time to describe some of the dinosaurs and scenes: the second book just says that a Suchomimus appears, while the first one leads off with Becklespinax's sail, colors, and fearsome appearance before introducing her by name.
They're good reads, if you can find them and pick them up. Just remember that the process is presumably just that Steve Behling was sent a bunch of scripts for the first season and had to adapt them, so you're not going to get a WHOLE new experience from it (though he does have some fun).
#*note that early drafts can change for any reason from “we'll talk about that later” to “we considered this but chose Something Else”#swan reads chaos theory#jwct#chaos theory

Chaos Theory Thoughts:
Season 3 Episode 3

Brooklyn's new prosthetic is the solid form of her relationship with Soyona. It makes her stronger and prepares her for the dangers she is about to face, it's a genuine gift but one Brooklyn can't refuse. Brooklyn has won the heart of the broker and has gotten what she's after, but now she's in so deep that she can't back out. She's not allowed to take off the arm.

Darius' confusion is nice but a little odd. We know that InGen was never able to clone a dinosaur with feathers and it was only under Biosyn that Wu had cracked that flaw, so it makes sense that he hasn't seen a feathered dinosaur before.
However, Biosyn is a public presence by this point in time and based on the tour that Ellie and Alan go on, them cloning "pure" dinosaurs like the Moros was a point of pride for the company. This shouldn't be a secret, Darius should know that there are feathered dinosaurs in Biosyn valley not far from their current location, right? The only real explanation I can think of is that Biosyn cloning new species is something only kept to students and investors and isn't public knowledge yet.
Likewise he mentions all the dinosaurs they've seen up until this point already existed, but he was confused by the Atrociraptors, wasn't able to recognize the Majungasaurus by roar, and he saw the new Lystrosaurus clones floating in vats. He mentions other genetic companies, he should know by now that someone out there is making new dinosaurs that weren't on Nublar.
I like that they're making the Pyroraptor into a mystery that is leading them to Biosyn but I feel like they're making Darius a little dumber than he should be to facilitate it.

Fun fact: The reason Soyona smiles after Brooklyn makes a joke about wanting to go to the beach is because she's imagining her new girltoy in a little bikini.

Another moment I'm a bit confused on, why does he need Soyona to kill a guy to secure a land permit for his valley? He already has a gigantic facility that doubles as the biggest lab on earth and an international private university inside a valley, underlined with a subway system, full of a good chunk of the global dinosaur population. What more does he need, what permit does he not already have?

Damn the girlies are fighting!!!!!!! Soyona said don't touch my new girlfriend just cuz you're jealous. In all seriousness it does show that Soyona does not hold the Handler very closely, to her she's just a slightly annoying employee.

I love that the Pyroraptor gently pushes the dog food to the side. It's like the Raptor is toying with the guy, like it's going "nuh uh, you know that's not what I'm interested in." I imagine the Pyro was giggling to itself a little bit with that joke.

How do you think Kenji's process to forgive Brooklynn will go? Because he said: "I'm not fluent in betrayal" and "once you lose my trust, you lose it. Forever"
Ok, I'm going to go off on a little tangent here (as I always do) because your question just made me think back on a moment of clarity I had recently, and it has to do with the reason they had Brooklynn and Kenji break up in the first place. But it'll make sense I swear.
But if I had to summarize my "argument": I think Kenji won't have to "forgive" her because she's not actually betraying him (any of them for that matter) and he knows it. He doesn't see what she's doing as a betrayal.
Now, the long thought process, grab your pop corn.
(Sorry, I had a lot of thoughts and it's a mess but who's surprised?)
You see, I was asking myself, if they're gonna make Kenlynn endgame like I think they are, why have them break up in the first place, taking the risk of making them messy in the process? It didn't make sense to me at first, it was one of the only things I couldn't get behind.
And then the answer, like, revealed itself to me and it was so evident I wondered how I didn't click before 😂
If they wanted to make Kenlynn endgame, breaking them up was the ONLY option they had, the only way they could do it.
Let me elaborate. In an interview Scott Kreamer more or less said that when Chaos Theory was greenlit, one of the first "storyline" they "baked" for the show was Brooklynn's (her faking her death). So they kind of had to articulate all of the other storylines around that.
Which leads me to my point.
Kenji would have NEVER been able to forgive her had she done all this while still being his girlfriend.
That's straight up treason. That's choosing a life of misery over his love. That's not telling your partner who's suffering and grieving you that you're alive. That's choosing your investigation over him when you finally reunite. That's torturing him. That's like EVIL.
But that's not what happened. Because Kenji broke up with her. That changes everything when we think about it, it changes the status quo.
She wasn't hiding the fact that she was alive from her partner, she was hiding it from her ex who was probably better off without her in his life anyway since he broke up with her.
She's no longer choosing a dangerous life of misery over him, because she doesn't even have him.
We have to keep in mind that she has no idea whether Kenji still loves her or not. She most likely thinks he doesn't (he broke up with her and after that she was "dead" for six months).
So she really got to choose between two evils:
Going back to her friends and being forced to deal with everything she didn't want to have to deal with : having to face Darius after everything that happened (confession+abandonning her), having to deal with the consequences of her actions on her relationship with her friends (feeling like she no longer belongs in the group), but above all having to deal with the fact that she'll be alone for the first time in six years (having no idea what her and Kenji have anymore). Idk, I'd be Brooklynn I wouldn't want to come back either.
Or, continuing her mission. Sure, it's lonely and dangerous. Sure, it'll hurt her friends. Sure, it'll make her miserable, but so does the other option. Choosing to pursue Soyona makes the most sense for her. She sacrificed too much to stop midway (her arm, her relationship(s), her place in the world (she literaly faked her death). If she stops before it's over it would all have been for nothing. And sure, she'll be miserable, but at least it gives her the opportunity to do good (getting rid of the threat on her life and on her friends' lives, saving innocent dinos).
So now, what about Kenji in all that? As you said, he made a point of saying he doesn't forgive easily.
But the thing is, I'm not even sure Kenji has to "forgive" her.
He broke up with her and after that they never spoke again because she died, their relationship remained "unresolved".
She's not "abandoning him" by doing all this because he was the one who abandoned her first (don't get me wrong, he had every right to break up, but it was still extremely violent and painful for Brooklynn).
I think there's so many layers to their relationship, but the fact is that they're the ones who have suffered the most out of all the camp fam.
And Kenji's aware of that (at least he will be when he'll know everything that happened to her). There's a scene which already kind of hints at this, where we can see Kenji been hit with the realization/fact that she must have suffered more than he could ever comprehend, empathizing with her.
I saw some people putting Kenji in the same bag as Ben and Soyona when it comes to them noticing Brooklynn's arm, but as I touched on in the "analysis" I did of that particular scene, the scene with Kenji is very different from the other two. Kenji does not look at her arm because he can't help looking at it. He's consciously looking at it and wants her to be aware that he's looking at it, he's asking a thousands questions with his eyes alone. It's a look of sadness, of compassion, of hurt. He's hurting for her.
He doesn't get mad at her for her "betrayal", never confronts her, never makes it about him, because it's not. Although he doesn't know why she's doing what she's doing, he knows that she suffered at least as much as he did simply by looking at her arm.
I think that Kenji will try to understand her, not to forgive her, because as I said it's not a betrayal. His reaction to her leaving doesn't look like the reaction of someone who feels "betrayed" and who's rightfully mad at the person. It looks like the reaction of someone who's hurt, sad, heart-broken, regretful, lost, but never mad.
I don't think Kenji sees any of what she's doing as a betrayal because she's not actually doing anything to him. HE was the one who removed himself from Brooklynn's "considerations". This isn't another instance of her neglecting their relationship (or him) anymore because with where things had been left off, as far as she knew, they didn't have any kind of relationship anymore. Not a romantic one, not friendship, nothing, just a big question mark. Kenji most likely still loves her and regretted breaking up with her, but she's not aware of any of that, only Kenji is. To her, it's too late, a lost cause.
So, she's not doing anything to Kenji. It was the case when they were a couple (when she neglected him), because when you're in a relationship you sorta become one with the other person and your every action impacts them, so you must take that into consideration everytime you do something. But as I said, Kenji took himself out of the equation.
She's not doing anything to Kenji, if anything she's doing everything to herself.
I think a lot of people who see Brooklynn as *almost* irredeemable also underestimate everything that happened to her and the role other characters also played in her "demise". Kenji broke up with her, Darius abandonned her. They also hurt her.
She's the one who caused the chain of tragic events that happened to her by giving in to her obsession with her investigation, sure, but that does not mean that she was prepared for any of what happened to her.
My argumentation is a little all over the place sorry 😂.
But, yeah, my main take away from this is that Brooklynn's not betraying any of them. She's following her own path, one they don't understand or agree with, sure, but she doesn't owe them anything. She's her own person, living her life the way she wants to live it, making her own choices. The only one she would have "betrayed" is Kenji, but as I said, that was when they were in a relationship. I think he might get mad at her for having kept so many secrets, but he will eventually forgive her if she's willing to change, if she owns up to her faults (and I feel like after everything she went through she will be willing to). After all, although he said he never "forgives", he forgave Darius.
Congrats if you made it to the end and if you somehow managed to understand 😂
