so i had one hell of a dream last night
i know i said i was gonna stop talkin' about wreck it ralph but lemme have this one last mention because this revolves around wreck it ralph and yeah
so if i remember correctly, there were these, like, hero's duty people patrolling through The Outlet because "there was a new, dangerous threat/virus in the area", and there was this general commander character that wasn't Calhoun.
So...turns out that virus in question was King Candy, and this is where everything goes to Hell.
TW: Body horror, transformation mention, gore(?), parasite/infection mention (NOTHING VISUAL, ALL OF THIS IS DESCRIPTIVE)
Ok so SUDDENLY, the commander guy's body starts glitching out profoundly and he stumbles forward while the other men with their guns look over. Hard cut to the commander's legs and feet as HE SCREAMS AND HIS BODY DOES SOME RESIDENT EVIL "SKIN BURNING OFF" CRAP ALL WHILE YOU CAN SEE PARTICLES OF, LIKE, CLOTHING AND SKIN HIT THE FLOOR.
and then the camera pans back up to his face and BRO TURNED INTO CYBUG KING CANDY. but like, some of the features were uncannily off; I don't know how, but parts of it just didn't resemble Cybug KC. That, and his head/face was supposed to be Turbo's, but something about it was just... not...right... Not too creepy or scary or anything, it just looked off.
He was cackling and stuff, and as the camera zooms out to reveal the full body, this low-quality voice just screams out saying
I HAVE BEEN RE(BORN?)
(At least I think that's what I heard, but the audio was horrible especially near the end...)
and this isn't even the first time this exact scene plays out. because guess what APPARENTLY THIS ISN'T JUST A ONE-TIME SCENE BECAUSE KING CANDY HAS BECOME A INFECTION OR SOMETHING BECAUSE THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO LIKE TWO OR MORE PEOPLE.
WHAT
THE FRICK?

Is Treasure Planet part of the experimental era? Bc in my head it’s kind of grouped with the other movies you mentioned. If it is, anything you’d like to ramble about with that one? (Even if parts don’t age as well, I maintain that I’m Still Here is top five Disney soundtrack moments)
YESSS. treasure planet is literally my second favorite experimental era film right under emperors new groove. it arguably ended up defining the entire latter half of the experimental era actually! oops this got long again hang on
pretty much every movie after treasure planet that wasnt nearing completion in the production process was switched over to cgi after treasure planet flopped both critically and in the box office (fun fact chicken little, disneys first cgi film, was originally meant to be a 2d film, it got moved to cgi because treasure planet flopped). like, if you could point a finger at ANY animated film and claim it caused the death of 2d animation, it would be treasure planet. undoubtedly.
THIS BEING SAID THOUGH. i will defend this movie with my life i literally dont care. its SOOOO gorgeous. im in love with how pretty this movie is. and im still here is SUCH a good song. jim was actually the blueprint for angsty teens everywhere. i also think not having a musical-style soundtrack works reallyyy well for this film, it makes im still here feel that much more impactful. amelia is such a badass and in my head she didnt have a bunch of heterosexual babies with doppler.
alsooo something i find very specific to the experimental era Brand is the incredible lengths of worldbuilding. all the alien designs are SOO cool as well as the sci-fi aesthetic. the cgi might seem a little clunky looking back at it now but i still think it holds up pretty goddamn well. it really does feel like a world that existed before this movie that we're just being introduced to. and "youre gonna rattle the stars you are" that line means absolutely everything to me. Okay.
what treasure planet largely suffered from is the fact that it was pitched back in the 80s so it was constantly shelved. that being said so was wreck it ralph but probably for the best, its super interesting how that movie was supposed to be a topical current movie for the 80s but ended up being successful by feeling retro by the time it did come out in 2012. i AM mentioning this for a reason by the way im just saying in comparison unfortunately treasure planet didnt have that sort of reframing of its aesthetic to fall back on when it finally got released around 20 years later. a lot of people just werent into the aesthetic since that wasnt what they were expecting from disney, and the pacing in the third act did drag on a little which didnt help its case.
but i honestly believe if treasure planet was released either earlier OR later, it might have had a better chance. either way its probably one of the most important films to talk about when discussing the experimental era as a whole considering how it affected 2d animation from then on. also ben never existed btw he exploded and died and wasnt there for the rest of the movie it was all just a bad dream <3

FINALLY watched wreck-it ralph 2, ive been upset with myself for not seeing it when it was in theaters (i was looking forward to it for so long??? guess thats just depression for ya) but better late than never i suppose
wasnt as good as the first one, which isnt surprising, but it was still a good movie! maybe not a perfect sequel, but a good one at least
i think i also kinda let myself get scared off by the fact that the marketing (early on, at least? idk) was very focused on "HEY!!! you know... this BRAND??? you know this BRAND!!! well... this BRAND... is in the movie!!!!!!"
and that really made it feel like it was gonna be a shallow mess of product placement, especially without any actual plot info to support what theyd shown. as far as i knew ralph and vanellope were just goofing off in Capitalism Land because they were bored or something
but the truth is thats just what marketing is sometimes?? ive seen gravity falls trailers that make it look horrible, but it's my favorite show. when they choose to market something toward kids in a way that strips it of all its substance it's easy to get tricked into thinking that substance isnt there
anyway i knew deep down itd still probably be good, it was made by the same people as the first one and they did have ideas for a sequel back then so it's not like it exists purely from disney greed (though that is a factor)
and watching that movie felt like watching wreck-it ralph, like id stepped into that world again. they did a reasonably good job adapting the internet into that world too i think? at least about as good as we can expect representing the internet to work out
anyway it's Good. ive got more to say but some of it's spoilery and i haven't said spoilers so far and im tired of typing on my phone so i think ill just do a separate post later
ok one more thing tho:
i LOVE how i was dedicated enough to watch the disney princess movies i hadnt yet gotten around to seeing (princess and the frog, brave, moana) in preparation for wir2 (because theyre in it) and DID manage to finish that before the movie premiered, but didn't watch the movie when it premiered...
im glad i managed to see detective pikachu the day it came out though. for some reason it's a lot of effort to go out and see a movie but it's worth it and i need to make sure i avoid accidentally skipping stuff im really excited about

D23 2017 Expo
D23 is the most fun and amazing Disney experience ever created outside of the celebrated Disney Parks & Resorts, this event takes place every two years in the City of Anaheim. Home of the "Happiest Place on Earth" Disneyland ♡
"All the magic and excitement of the past, present, and future of Disney entertainment comes together under one roof when D23: The Official Disney Fan Club presents D23 Expo."  -- The Official Disney Fan Club
This year at D23 we got array of surprises and got to see first hand new products coming to the parks and retail stores. Let's take a look at the fun new surprises coming to the different resorts.
The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim will obviously be getting a new Star Wars land as promised at previous D23 but what they didn't mention was the lands official name will be Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. Take a look at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Showcase featured at D23
Then the Magic Kingdom will also be getting a luxury resort that is all immersive with Star Wars Resort. Both Magic Kingdom and & Disneyland will get more Pixar, with Pixar Pier coming to Disneyland's California Adventure Park and take over the Paradise Pier. Then a Toy Story Land will go to Hollywood Land in Walt Disney World as well as a new attraction Tron Legacy which I can not wait for all of this! Take a look at all Bob Chapek Chairman of The Walt Disney Parks & Resort had to announce.
Also another fun thing to see at the D23 Expo was I got to see some of the best and fun cosplay ever from disney fans every where take a look! Mulan was one of my favorites so Elegant and beautiful. Also Princess Jasmine in her red seductress outfit, I love it!
Then there was fun places to go as a guest and take some fun pictures, like the Duck Tales photo op provided by the new show launching on Disney XD. Or the Luxo Ball backdrop near the Pixar Animation showcase. Also the Pirate of the Carribean 50th Anniversary photo opportunity celebrating the attractions milestone. So many things to do and see.
One of my favorite expierence was the ability to meet an ICON.
EDNA MODE
I normally don't get star struck, Edna & Rihanna are probably the only two I totally loose it. She is ICONIC! I love fashion, design, and consumer sciences. Edna embodies art, design, and strong attentions to details. Edna Mode is everything! Edna and I talked about the new Incredibles films to how Doctor Strange needs to loose the cape. Zendaya's look at the Met Gala gave us life in that Dolce & Gabanna piece and how Luxury Law Roach is changing imagery and is a Image Architect.  She also said tid bits of new collections coming to Milan's Fashion Week. Truly Honestly Truly ICONIC.
Pixar always has a lot of announcements to make and display at D23 from  COCO, Incredibles, Toy Story sooooo many great films coming our way and Cars 3 feature was adorable I loved Fritter Bus ...
Disney Animation also gave a closer look at the new WRECK IT RALPH 2 FILM! Where Ralph Wrecks the Internet, URL Life will never be the same! I cant wait for that film to release I loveddddddddddd the first film soooooo much ! I do hope they expand on the Wreck It Ralph franchise and bring the characters to the resort, because Vanelope was great but lets not forget CAPTAIN CALHOUN!!! was my favorite, and is my favorite Disney Character of all time. One of the great things they mentioned at the panel was that disney princess will be in film with original character voice reunited for this film. SOOOOO EXCITED!
I am already overwhelmed just thinking about all the amazing things happening! Now lets get into things I love most Merchandise!!!! Some great things this year at D23 was a bigger presence of Disney's Consumer Products & Imagineering. My most favorite place of all where the Magic gets to come home with you in neat products. This year I was able to visit and look at the DCPI showcase and look at fun merchandise from death star popcorn makers, to OH MY Disney stage featuring fashion and all fun things.
Now I wasnt able to make it into the Disney Store unfortunately it had a 3hr+ waiting line, or Mickey's of Glendale (MOG) and I had a ton of things to see. I was able to make it into the:
DREAM STORE
Which the Dream Store truly gets the importance of coordinating lines, they get it truly since the Dream Store is operated by Disneyland Parks & Resort Store Ops Team! WHOOT WHOOT goo Resort Store Ops!! There was sooo much to see and buy! Exclusive merch to art to new minnie mouse ear headbands coming to resort in Sept! All that good good !! Honestly amazing work from Miss Mindy and her new sculptures and art, Jerrod Maruyama new hipster minnie and small world piece, Shags art piece, John Coulter's villains !!!! soo good #ded!!!! Take a look!
If you are like me then you will room the entire expo and admire all wonderful things to see from a man making a groot from balloons, to spiderman lego figure. Or even admire the gowns from Disney films of princess or Minnie Mouse uber chic Haute Collection of her own. Even having live demonstrations.
This event is soo great and amazing. This year Disney celebrated some amazing people who helped shape ABC,MARVEL,STAR WARS,ANIMATION,FILM. Such as our beloved Princess Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamil, Marvel Legend Stan Lee, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi, Manuel Gonzales, Wayne Jackson, Jack Kirby, Garry Marshall, and Julie Taymor. All whom were recipients of this coveted award and have left such distinct impacts in their field and Walt Disney Company.
I can't wait to see all the amazing projects presented unfold and what's to come to the future D23.
Until next time D23.
