Shadow core Danny? Shadow core Danny with Hazmat AU? Indeed, with a hint of a twist. 

See that hazmat helmet beneath the hood? Yeah that’s erm, that might be his actual face now. It might be able to split open into a proper maw, as he found out during one of the early fights. He thinks it might be a shadow-core thing though, because Fright Knight has something similar, along with the Keeper. Who's apparently a ghost that keeps track of other shadow-ghosts, which, cool. Cool library covered in flesh, nothing spooky there. 

He mentions this? Because apparently even if all ghosts partially feed on emotions, shadow cores need Fear the most. Which, thankfully shadow cores are apparently more rare than he’d expect, so he’s not going to go into a territorial frenzy or something on a bad day, yay! 

But uh, he might… count as a ghostling since he’s only a year dead- in fact he’ll continue to be as such until he’s at least 100 years dead, since he didn’t die as an adult. Which in turn… means he needs even more fear, at least until he’s old enough to generate it on his own. 

So what’s a ghostling to do? Take a trip to one of the most fear-soaked cities in the world, y’know, just a little weekend trip every month. Gotham isn’t that bad, and he can stay invisible- mostly! What’s going to happen, he run into a vigilante? Ha… oh no.

Would kill to read animal POV fiction that has the animal POV’s interaction with humans be like, semi realistic to the level of caution most predators take with large prey and/or competitors (including humans).

Like instead of the usual - “the human is such a weak, pathetic creature... so slow, no claws, blunt teeth… completely helpless without its 'Fire Sticks'. how is it the master of the earth?” type crap it’s like, the bear protagonist or whatever approaches some dude who spreads their arms and yells and the bear is like “FUUUUUUUUCK THAT THING JUST GOT HUGE. IT'S LARGE AND MAKING NOISES. HOLY FUCK.”

(same watcher anon as last one you answered) absolutely understandable! watcher imo is returning much more to the base game's feel, though leaning heavier into the cryptic aspects. and the base game isn't for everyone, so of course watcher isn't either! (not to say you can't like the base game and dislike watcher, though. i haven't looked at many general opinions bc spoilers)

i do wonder how many of us would be rain world fans at all without downpour. downpour did change the feel of rain world quite a lot - not in a bad way, just different. both dlcs expand on the base game but watcher is building off of very different aspects than downpour is, i think.

I think about that a lot too! Downpour definitely opened the doors to a lot of new fans. I was always following Rain World before downpour came out, I just didn't get as into it as I did until Downpour came out.

I totally get why some folks would enjoy The Watcher though! and I'm glad they do despite it not being for me. I love the vanilla cats, I just also enjoy storytelling haha.

Wrong. Our humanity has been stripped from us by corporations turning us into nothing but tools to work until we break and cattle to slaughter and sell to investors for profit. We do not exist as people and have not for decades.

What has happened is a reminder for the wealthy that we ARE humans. Living, breathing, and full of anger. They’re not scared we’re losing our humanity, they’re scared we’re gonna take it back from them.

Plagued with fish thoughts all night so I just had another idea, could also be applied to the post-canon AU you have Pre-de-fishing, Sebastian does lean more towards the fight or flight response to danger (he has the teeth, claws and strength for fight, and the speed and mobility for flight), but the human in him has the freeze/fall instinct where he'll just drop to the ground and look as small and inconspicuous as possible, which is impossible when you're a giant fish man. He thinks it'll get better once he's mostly back in a human body, but instead it gets worse because now he doesn't have the traits he had for a fight or flight response, so all he can do is just freeze, as disgusting as humiliated as it makes him feel. He can't help it.

Are there noticeable differences in crocheting different generations? My general impression (which could be wrong) is that the newer generations have simpler designs than older generations. Does that make a difference to you when you crochet? Do you prefer crocheting newer or older Pokemon?

Yes, there are noticeable differences in crocheting different generations! Off the top of my head is the big head baby pattern that's more common in newer generations. Like Machop gen 1 has a pretty proportional head for its body, Fennekin gen 6 has a big fluffy head for its bitty fox body, Kubfu gen 8 has a big head for its body, and Charcadet gen 9 is a little funko pop baby with its large head and relatively tiny body. I only noticed this because I've got a personal dislike for designs where it's big head little body and I ended up making more recent crochets (Kubfu and Charcadet 2024) with smaller heads than the actual designs have, but looking back at Fennekin from 2017ish, I did make giant head and little body, and it's top heavy and doesn't stand upright on its own well lol

The earlier gens do have simpler designs usually, too. I think one of the most fanciful got-a-lot-going-on designs from earlier on is Ho-Oh gen 2, but that's a legendary and kind of understandable. But newer gens it's pretty common for a design to be gimmicky and overloaded with details for just regular Pokemon. Like, idk, Rellor gen 9 is just a little bug guy but the underbelly design is a a curving pyramid beehive kind of shape, and it has the labyrinthine design on its back. Maybe a more direct comparison is Krabby/Kingler gen 1 being literally just crabs, and then Klawf gen 9 adds little tufts in between each leg segment and its nose. Houndour/Houndoom gen 2 are red/black dogs with a skull/bone part on head, back, each leg, and a collar for Houndoom. Fidough/Dachsbun gen 9 are bread dogs, and I will concede that Fidough is relatively simple cream color and yellow, but Dachsbun is like four shades of bread. They both also have braided parts on their back, and each one's ears, collar, and tail are a separate tiny pastry. They even got tiny little dough eyebrows.

It does make a difference when I crochet because of all the colors I end up cycling through for just one pokemon, even if just for a tiny detail. Also I find myself embroidering more for newer gens because they're more likely to have a specific pattern on their belly or back or something that's too detailed to just color switch yarn for at the scale I'm working. I definitely prefer crocheting pokemon with simpler designs, which tend to be from earlier gens, because it's less to account for.

one of my favorite tropes is casual use of OCs in fanfic

like. the guy goes to a convention and makes some friends and they're all OCs. or the guy goes to a new school and all his friends there are OCs. or. any number of things like that

and it sucks that usually the connotation of "OC in fic" is actually about self inserts of the author (which... is fine? typically has bad connotations of being cringe or whatever but I'm currently technically co-authoring a reader insert fic so yknow. cringe is dead) and that the only OC in those types of fics is the self insert. gimme more fics where there's like a dozen OCs seamlessly integrated into the canon characters' lives
