the sight of you was beautiful, there was something about your sleeping form that drove him mad. max knew that he could have any woman he desired, but why would he desire them when he could have you. you pulled him in, but even after years of friendship. you never seemed to notice max's advances, and he was getting desperate.
earlier in the evening you complained about not being able to sleep. you were visiting your best friend who was happy to house you in his apartment in monaco, so when max handed you a dainty little pill and told you to have a good night, you happily took it. and when your soft snores could be heard from the doorway of the bedroom, max felt himself getting arousing.
you looked like an innocent princess, and max believed himself to be the prince who will protect you. even if that meant having his hands under your shirt while you were asleep. a prince deserved a reward didn't he?
you laid under the sheet, which max pulled off slowly. you were in a thin tank top and underwear. he felt his heartbeat leap at the sight of you. he took out his phone to take photos.
he chuckled to himself lowly, "i cum in that every night." a cheeky joke as he had spent the last week slipping you a little pill and having his wicked way with you once you were asleep. you were quite nice when you were asleep, so much softer. it only made max yearn for you more. he wanted you, you were just too beautiful. he groaned as he felt tension in his sweatpants, "stupid little thing."
there was hunger inside of him, he needed you. wanted you in carnal ways that he couldn't put into words. the sight of you, he took more photos as he got his cock out of his sweatpants and rubbed it against your now bare stomach. he shuddered, "beautiful little thing. so stupid. need someone to protect you. you need to be saved don't you? well that's what i'm here for." he then got your panties down around your ankle and exposed your entire form to him.
it was only right for him to admire every inch of you, you were going to be his wife. the mother of his child. he said softly, “gonna make you a mamma and you're gonna make me a daddy.” and you shifted a little, it excited him as he got between your legs. he felt the rush through him as he sank his cock into you.
he had been doing this every night for a week now. every evening like ritual, he made sure you were tucked in, only for him to peel back the sheets and fuck you with a feverish want while you sleep. max had enough of beating around the bush with your love, he was a man of action.
and all he needed was for two little cells to meet before that action became a plan. some would call it baby trapping, but he'd call it a promise of commitment. you weren't going to do it alone, you'd have max every step of the way. he'd even retired to make sure that you and his baby were taken care of.
he could feel the pleasure through his body as he moved against you. he held your legs wrapped around him as he leaned in to kiss you on the lips. he snatched his phone up from the bed and snapped photos and took a small video of his cock being rocked in and out of you. he let out a small groan as the pleasure seeped into his blood. you felt amazing, he eyed your sleeping form as he picked up the pace a little bit more. he filmed a little more and let himself just enjoy the feeling of your slick cunt.
it was like a warm vice that pulled him in further. he took it as a sign that your body wanted it. you wanted this too, to carry his child. of course you did, you were so innocent and sweet. bordering on naive that max knew that you'd want a baby. a chubby little verstappen baby at your hip, you'd make a good mother.
and max knew that, even if you didn't at that moment.
he groaned lightly as he held onto your hips. he felt the climbing warmth in his body as he fucked you. feeling your body against his. your sleeping form was like the future in his eyes. he could imagine your wedding, having your family. you being the perfect wife for him. it was only destiny for the two of you, you had been friends for ages.
he knew everything about you, no other man would be able to compare. to think they could would be stupid to think, you were meant to be with max. for him to dote, love and protect. you didn't need to do anything else besides be his wife and the mother of his children. he had already made enough money to sustain a full house for three lifetimes. you deserved a man who could provide, max knew you 'dated', but they never lasted long. they didn't deserve to be with a woman like you. an angel from the heavens brought to earth.
"i love you." he said, "even when you don't see it. i know you do, i know you love me. you want me badly, but you don't think you're good enough. hopefully when i get you pregnant you can realize that i love you. i need you." his breathing was heavy as he thrusted against you.
there was no protection between you two and honestly he didn't need it. 'protection' wouldn't get you pregnant, wouldn't keep you as his. plus, it felt so much better bare-back. to feel the closeness to you. fill you with his seed and let it take root inside of you. then maybe you'd come to your senses.
maybe he could've done it a different way, but why would we do that? you looked so peaceful, he knew you weren't getting sleep. and max, the dutiful husband, would always make sure that you were alright. he just happened to want your sweet cunt wrapped around his hard cock at the same time. who could blame him, your pussy was the kind to salivate over like a hungry dog.
to love you, in his own twisted way, was a sign of utter devotion. even in your sleep, he would protect you. he knew what was right, and had convinced himself that breeding you while asleep was the best course of action. it'll prove that max is the man you need in your life, the protector. you were so innocent at times, anyone could hurt you!
but not max, at least in his logic.
you cunt felt amazing around his cock. his heart hammered in his chest a she rocked against you. he panted heavily as he moved against you. he held onto your thighs firmly and the dirty talk spilled from his lips. it was hard to make it stop at the feeling of your cunt like a vice around his cock. he rutted up into your further, as deep as he could go, as he said, "you're a fucking good girl. always did everything right, you were so trusting. that's why i have to keep you with me. close to me, where you belong. you're my wife, i knew that from the moment i met you. but the older we get, the further you're getting. time to bring you home. you, me and baby." his voice was hushed, but his words were protective and loving. or his version of loving.
if anyone saw or heard what he was doing. they'd be in shock, but they didn't understand. they didn't get how much you meant to him. he spent so much time trying to find you in other women, but why bother with them when he had you. all of you.
and soon there would be a product of your love. your union together. that only made him work his hips faster against you. you remained limp under him as he drilled his cock into you. your let out a small moan in your deep sleep and it made max near drool as he finished inside of you.
he thrusted quickly against you and felt all semblance of control start to slip. he was left hungry, near feverish from the intensity of the pleasure. he loved it, just as he loved you. of course the love of his life would have a cunt that drove him to near insanity.
he soon finished inside of you after the pleasure took hold. he clutched onto you tightly and felt the intense heights of pleasure. he let out a loud moan before he slowed to a stop. he wiped his sweaty brow and eyed your still sleepy form. it made his cock twitch inside of you for a moment.
he leaned in to kiss you on the lips before he pulled away to get you re-clothed and tucked back in. before he left the room, he kissed you on the face once more and said,
"everything i do. i do for you."
-
you were in tears weeks later, you showed max the pregnancy test when fear in your eyes. and while you looked distraught, max looked excited. the test clattered on the floor as max took you in his strong arms and kissed your face.
"how..how did this happen?" you asked meekly.
max replied with a wide smile, "don't worry about it! it's our little miracle! you and the baby won't go without. we'll have to get a bigger place, and move your stuff back home. or i can buy you new things since you'll be going through so much change... and then of course, i have to marry you. it's only right!" he was already talking like you two had planned this pregnancy.
but it was hard to do much thinking when max held you so protectively. you held onto the front of his shirt and rubbed your face against his chest. you exhaled deeply, still feeling shaken to your core. you held on tightly like a lifeline, knowing that max's child was growing in your womb. a part of you wondered if the things you were feeling late into the night weren't dreams after all. <3

"How's my beautiful girl? I can't wait to see how gorgeous you'll look."
You sighed inwardly as you read Jessie's text as you and your friends waited. You were wedding dress shopping today and this was your first booking of the day.
Jessie's text sparked a smile, however it was brief as your eye was drawn to the prior messages from the other day.
------
"Hey, I know it's [y/friend's] birthday dinner on Friday and the reservation is at 6:00. Do you know if we're all starting right away or do you think there'll be drinks first and then dinner later?"
"I'm not sure. Why?"
"Well, it's just that Zoie starts swimming Friday and her class starts at 5:30. I'm just trying to sort out how I might be able to do both."
"Babe?"
"I don't have to go to her class. It's totally fine. There'll be others."
"It's fine Jess. Just show up when you can."
"No, it's okay. They probably won't even do much day one. I'll go to the next one."
"Jess. Go to Zoie's class. She'd want you there."
"You sure? It's not too, too far from where you guys are meeting. So I shouldn't be overly late. I'll bring [y/friend] a bottle of her favourite wine."
"All good. We'll be happy to see you whenever you get there."
-------
You sighed again as you finished rereading. Your thumb hovered over the keyboard and you found it difficult to muster up the energy to respond. You did though.
"You know you're not supposed to see the wedding dress until the actually wedding, right? lol"
You name was called and your head snapped up and a polite smile crossed your face as you stood. You tucked your phone away and your friends ushered you along after the consultant.
"It says here you have a December wedding," the consultant remarked as she turned to you with a warm smile while you walked.
"Oh, yeah," you answered tepidly, somehow caught off guard by the comment.
"Winter weddings are nice! And we don't get quite as many of those," she commented lightly as she continued to lead you and your friends to the room at the back.
"Oh. My fiancée is a footballer, so we scheduled it during her off season."
"Very nice," she said. "Now, what kind of a style were you thinking for your dress?" She asked as you reached your destination and she turned to you with clasped hands awaiting your response.
Your mind went eerily blank. You'd envisioned a dress, or at least a couple, several times before. You'd pictured Jessie standing at the end of the aisle, tears in her eyes as she watched you walk down the aisle. You'd pictured how tenderly she'd hold your hands as you said your vows. You'd pictured her slipping the band on your finger. The kiss.
But right now you just felt tired and you mind slowly churned as it tried to conjure up a vision.
You blushed in embarrassment. "Um, I don't really know. Whatever looks good, I guess," you said with a laugh you hoped didn't sound too forced.
Your friends immediately jumped in with ideas and for that were you thankful.
Soon you were offered option after option after option. One dress held up after another, each awaiting your approval or disapproval, everyone watching you closely. You could feel your nerves starting to fray as this whole exercise began to overwhelm you.
Eventually, to put a stop to the carousel of dresses, you picked the one that actually stayed in your mind throughout the barrage of options. Everyone chattered excitedly as the dress was retrieved and the consultant opened the lush curtains to the fitting room.
You stepped in and she began to prepare some things for you. Subconsciously you retrieved your phone, looking for some kind of distraction and reprieve from the way your heart was beating loud in your chest.
You opened Instagram mindlessly and the first story on your feed was one Sara posted.
You hadn't wanted to add her. But she extended an invite, and, well, Jessie had her now too, so you might as well be in than out.
You vaguely noted the consultant talking to you over her shoulder, but you were more focused on the clip of Jessie and Zoie kicking a soccer ball back and forth at the park, laughing and running together. The caption, "She wants to be just like her mama" sent a searing pain through your chest.
"Okay, you're all set."
"Hm?" You asked blankly as you looked up from your phone to the woman. Your eyes darted between her and the dress and you plastered a smile on your face. "Oh, great. Thank you."
"Don't worry much about fit right now. It's probably going to feel bulky and not quite right, but that's all stuff we tailor and sort out as part of the alterations. Now, do you want to call one of your friends in to help with the dress?"
"Oh, yeah," you said as you shook your head out with another practiced smile while you tried to stay present.
Your friend helped you step into the dress and you even managed to have a laugh during the whole process as she zipped you up. A soft smile was still on your face as she turned you towards the full-length mirrors. She rested her hands on your shoulders as she took you in, a smile of awe on her face.
You looked at your reflection as you stood there in what could be your wedding dress. You were smiling in the mirror, a smile of yours that had become second nature the past few months and one that you were oh so sick of. This image before you - you smiling in this gorgeous gown, a vision of you at the alter - it felt distant and foreign. You didn't recognize this person.
"You look stunning. What do you think?" Your friend asked. You smiled further.
"I like it," you lied.
As she unzipped you later, you purposefully made a request that drew her away and left you to stand there quietly in front of the mirror alone as you held up the dress with one hand.
This should've been a joyous moment. Instead, you felt like you were mourning a future that never came to be.
That image of Jessie laughing and running around with Zoie - knowing that it was Sara watching on, not you - flashed through your mind.
There were two parallel worlds happening. Jessie your fiancée. Jessie, doting parent to a daughter that wasn't yours, dedicated co-parent and partner to someone who wasn't you.
You stared at yourself for a few moments before your eyes began to sting and your lip trembled. You immediately turned away and took a deep, shuddering breath.
You had a choice to make. Or rather, whether you liked it or not, it felt like the choice had been made for you.
---------
You heard Jessie's key slide into the lock and the bolt turn before the door opened. Her voice carried down the hall as you heard her taking off her shoes, bags rustling in hand.
"Hey, you didn't get back to me, so I just picked up some stuff for stir fry. Is that okay?"
You didn't reply.
Instead, you remained seated at the kitchen table, shoulders slack and body listless as you stared vacantly at the shining diamond ring you'd set in the middle of the table. This ring that she'd bought and given to you with love, with promise, intent and dreams.
You absently rubbed your ring finger that now felt naked. In the grand scheme of things, the ring hadn't been on your finger for all that long, but you felt something akin to phantom sensations despite it.
"Oh, there you are. Are you-"
Jessie's words died off as did her steps as she came to a stop a couple of feet from you. You didn't have to look up to know her eyes were fixed on the ring as well.
You room was heavy with silence before you finally forced yourself to look up at her. You could feel tears forming behind your eyes already. Her gaze shifted from the ring to you and you immediately noticed the shimmering of her eyes.
She visibly swallowed and when she spoke her voice trembled just so despite the faint smile she tried to force. "Hey, what's going on?"
You inhaled as you shifted in your seat to face her. You went to speak, but your throat constricted with impending emotion and your lip began to quiver as tears threatened to fall.
"I'm sorry," you managed to say as you looked up at her. She dropped your gaze, eyes shifting to the floor and you noted how her hands balled tightly into fists as she tried to control her emotions. Her eyes remained transfixed on the floor and you repeated yourself, your voice wavering this time. "I'm sorry, Jess."
She didn't say anything right away and you were about to speak when a tear fell from her, catching the light from the room before it hit the ground.
She looked up at you, eyes brimming with tears and looking so crestfallen. Her cheeks were flushed red; you reflected idly on how there was a time when you'd have inspired that in her as a blush, now here you were breaking her heart.
Your shoulders shook as your own tears began to overtake you. You sniffled and began to speak, feeling the need to explain and to fill this aching silence.
"It's not that I don't love you. I love you more than I've ever loved anyone. You're everything I could ever want," your voice rose in pitch as your vocal cords strained. "But I just feel like every day - at one point or another - my heart is getting broken over and over again. I thought I'd be able to fix things. To just get over things. But I haven't. And I'm just starting to feel numb. I-I just don't know what to do anymore."
Jessie's breathing hitched as she began to muster a response, but you forged on feeling like if you didn't say everything you needed to now, you'd just fall back into her arms and that's where you'd stay.
"You have a new life. A new family-" You saw her ready to interject and you cut her off "-it's true, Jess. I know I'm your family, too. But so is Zoie. And Sara. I know you try to dismiss your connection with her, but you are tied to her forever. And I know you don't want to give her precedence over me, but reality is, she's the mother of your child and always will be. You need to put Zoie first, and by proxy, at times Sara - and I can't fault you for that. Your duty and your dedication to your loved ones is one of the many things about you I fell in love with," you forced a laugh as tears fell. You looked at her sadly.
"You gained a family. And I feel like I lost one. It's no one's fault. Maybe that's what makes it so hard." You took a shaky breath. "I think I would've handled this better if I'd come in knowing you had this. But for it to come up the way it has...it's turned everything upside down for me and I just don't know how to right it. I wish I did," you said remorsefully as you dropped her gaze and blinked through more tears. Your hands shook as you wrung them before looking up at her.
"I just don’t feel like I fit anymore. I’ve been trying. I want nothing more than a future with you, but it just doesn’t feel right anymore.”
Jessie had been crying quietly as she listened to you speak. Her face was red, her cheeks tear-stained as her chest hitched now and then with unsteady breaths.
Surprise flooded your system and she knelt in front of you. Here she was, on bended knee, taking your hands in hers, sorrow in her eyes and such a contrast from when she knelt before you in much the same way many months before, except that time with unhindered hope and love as she asked you to be hers forever.
“Please don’t do this. I know it’s hard right now. But we can find a way. It’ll get better. And easier. I promise," Jessie beseeched as she looked up at you from her position on the floor.
You didn't know what to say. There wasn't really anything to say. So you just smiled apologetically, hoping she could see how much this was breaking your heart as well.
Jessie searched your eyes and you saw her expression fall furthermore as she cried anew. She clutched your hands as quiet sobs began to take her.
“I’m so sorry. For everything. I never wanted this to happen," she said through her cries. It tore you apart seeing her like this, but in some bizarre way it actually affirmed your decision. You squeezed her hands, caressing the back of them tenderly with your thumbs.
“I know, baby. But I guess this is just how life is. Things can be unexpected. And they don’t always go the way you planned. And this is exactly why this won’t work. You shouldn’t have to feel sorry. You shouldn’t have to apologize. You have a gorgeous, sweet little girl. And there’s nothing wrong with that. At all. She deserves all of you and you shouldn't have to choose. And I know I'm the one who's been forcing you to."
You paused, trying to gather your composure, but your voice was still taut as you spoke.
"I'm sorry I'm so selfish. But I also know I'd never forgive myself if Zoie got even the slightest sense that any of this...strife, or difficulty, was because of her. She doesn't deserve that and it's certainly not her fault."
Jessie looked ready to protest. You forged on.
"I truly wish the best for you and for Zoie. And even Sara," you added with a watery laugh before you sniffled. "I know it hasn't been easy navigating things, Jess. I know how hard you tried. And it meant so much that you tried." You let out a brief sob. "Thank you for loving me." Jessie's face collapsed in tears as you said that and she reached up to cup your cheek. You couldn't resist leaning into her touch, but you had to finish what you had to say.
"I stopped wishing that I had gotten to you first. Then you'd be mine, and we could have our old life, or God, that it would be our child we're raising. But even that didn't feel good, because then Zoie wouldn't exist. And that's not right. She's added so much light and love to your life, to your family's - and despite the complications, mine too. I just can't embrace everything the way you have. I can't let go of what I wanted."
You took a shaky breath.
"To be honest - I just don't like who I am right now. How I've been feeling. What I'm bringing to our relationship. So," your features screwed up as you tried to put on a brave face, "it's time for me to go."
Jessie shook her head with a pained expression.
"No, you don't have to. Babe, please," she pleaded as more tears fell, "we can figure this out. I know you feel like you don't fit anymore, but you really do. What can I do to help you see that?" You let her question hang and she stared at you expectantly. She tried to smile, but it flickered with the heartache she was feeling. "We belong together. We love each other."
She said it with such finality it almost convinced you that it was enough.
You looked at her with the first real smile in what felt like so long. You were crying through it, but it was real.
"You deserve so much happiness," you said.
Jessie searched your eyes as she absorbed your words. A sob escaped her and she looked down. A moment passed and she leant her head down and kissed your hand, her lips lingering on your skin for several seconds before she pulled back.
She swallowed visibly as she brought her other hand to yours now as well, clasping yours in both of hers. Her eyes were still trained down as she nodded once. A beat passed and she looked up at you, brown eyes glistening and mournful, but somehow still full of love. She nodded once more as she gave you as brave a smile as she could, no matter how heartbroken she was.
"You deserve all the happiness in the world, too," she whispered, voice breaking.
She rose up higher onto her knees and you both met in a soft, tight embrace. Cries wracked your body and hers as you clung onto one another. You inhaled her scent, eyes closing as you willed yourself to remember it; to remember the feel of her hair, the sound and feel of her breath, the feel of her body against yours - you engrained it all.
---------
Sometimes, when a relationship ends, you don't know how the other person will be. Someone who you felt you knew so well can become a stranger overnight. But, that wasn't the case with Jessie.
She was gracious and loving despite the breakup. So much so that sometimes you had to remind her - as painful as it was - that you didn't belong to each other anymore.
"Hey, I'll be home late night. Midfielders are doing some extra technical work this afternoon. I'll text you when I'm done though. I could bring you home dinner or something though?" She'd asked hopefully one time as you both readied for the day.
"That's sweet of you to offer, but it's okay. And it's considerate, but you don't need to keep me apprised of your day. You don't owe me that," you gently reminded her. She gave you a tight, pained smile as she nodded her acceptance.
"Right," she said with a weak laugh. "Well. I guess I'll see you later, then. Um. Have a good day."
The few weeks until you could take possession of a new apartment had been awkward and delicate. You offered to move in with a friend in the interim, but Jessie had convinced you not to. Well, she wasn't wrong that living out of a suitcase for that long would be unnecessarily annoying, and there was certainly no point in moving all of your things twice. So, you'd stayed, with Jessie insisting on relegating herself to an air mattress in the living room. You'd argued with her, but she'd dug her heels in.
The days went by slowly, and at the same time, your move in date grew steadily closer and the pit in your stomach grew just the same. You'd had cold feet several times, but knew it was just some misguided part of you looking for the easy path and short-term pay-off.
It was hard to not have doubts when - despite everything - you and Jessie still got along so well. While it was undeniably hard to be in the same room as her and not be with her, it was still easy in a way. When you allowed yourself, you could chat about your days, even laugh.
What caused the most confusion was probably the fact that you didn't know how to be Jessie's friend. Even when you and her had been just friends at the beginning - a lifetime ago now - there was always something underlying. You had chemistry from the get-go and it was near impossible to deny.
And now, after everything, how could you possibly pretend to just be friends. How could you pretend you weren't in love with her? How could you pretend that this woman sitting a couple feet from you on the couch didn't preoccupy your every thought and could make or break you with her words.
Hell, that not only did she own your heart and mind, but your body, too. That as you laid there lonely in this bed you used to share, that your hand strayed as memories flooded your senses. Of all those nights, mornings, stolen moments, where she made love to you so passionately and desperately. The feeling so intimate and tender, like you were the only person on this earth with her and you the only one who could give her what she needed while she was the only one who could make you whole.
And with the way she looked at you - sometimes unabashed, sometimes fleeting - how could you pretend that she didn't feel the same way?
During moments of weakness, it seemed a silly thing to fight. In a world as dark and lonely as this one could be, why would you leave someone you loved and who loved you back?
But when Jessie spent nights coordinating things with Sara and then went out with her and Zoie on others, you remembered.
The day came when you took possession of your new apartment. You'd initially resisted her offer to help you move, but your resolve weakened and failed.
She'd worn a bright smile all day as she cheerfully tackled every task. You knew her well though; she was trying far too hard.
She helped you arrange furniture, move boxes around, check all the fixtures in the new place, the list went on. Even after you'd dismissed your friends, she'd insisted on sticking around and began helping you unpack.
Her eager assistance carried on into the night. Each time she finished one task, she readily started on another and good-naturedly dismissed your offers to let her stop.
As she chatted fast and constant throughout the night, hitting any and every topic she could, you saw this woman before you - the woman you well and truly loved - making every excuse to not leave. And truthfully, you were happy to delay the inevitable goodbye.
So for now, you both knew what she was doing, but neither of you vocalized it.
You eventually checked your phone. 12:30 am.
"Okay, so I was thinking of unpacking your books over here for now. I saw this really nice bookcase online the other day - I can get it for you over the weekend if you like. I think it could go really well over here. And-"
"Jess."
Her movements stilled and the room grew silent and heavy. She slowly turned to face you and you could see her thinly veiled trepidation.
You offered her a regretful smile as you fought back emotions and grief that began to bubble up inside of you.
"You should go...," you said gently.
She held your gaze for several moments, seemingly teetering on the edge of whether to protest or not. She nodded sadly and forced a smile that faltered as her eyes began to fill with tears.
She forced a laugh as she closed the space between you.
"It's a nice place. Could use some colour, but I know you'll take care of that," she said as she scratched nervously at the back of her neck and gave another weak laugh.
"Thanks for all of your help. Truly," you said.
Her eyes brimmed with tears and her mouth quivered faintly. "Anytime," she said, voice thick with emotion.
She stared at you a moment longer before exhaling, puffing out her cheeks before trying to choke back tears. "I know we're not together. But," she paused, debating her words, "I really do love you. I know you can't make any promises, but, if you're open to it I want you in my life." A quiet sob veiled as a laugh escaped her. "I don't know what my life looks like without you."
"I love you, too, Jessie," you said. You couldn't lie about that.
She embraced you and you held each other tightly in a lingering, tearful hug. Neither of you wanted to be the first to let go.
You eventually conceded and gingerly, regretfully, extracted yourself from her arms. Her fingers lingered as long as she could let them before you stepped back.
You gave her a watery smile.
"Take care of yourself, Jessie."
The statement seemed to wound her, but she covered it up with a tight smile.
"You too."
As you stood before her, a brief recollection came to you of a time long past; your first date. Even then, you knew with absolutely certainty you were going to see her again. As soon as possible if you could help it.
For the first time since the beginning, you didn't know if or when you'd see her again.
You gave her another quick hug, yet again committing her and everything about her to memory.
"I'll see you," you said softly as you hugged her. "And we'll talk soon. Good night, Jess."
Her cheek brushed against yours as she slowly pulled back. Her eyes shone with fresh tears. She opened her mouth to speak, but closed it, offering you a renewed smile instead.
"Good night, Y/N."

| Teaser | Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 |
Some traps aren't meant to catch you. They're meant to keep you."
You are good at your job, you really are. But recently the job has been feeling way too easy. Something is just not adding up. You are a very well-known pro-found detective- the one the departments brags about infront of press and in articles.
You knew you deserved the praise, the applause but now, as you are sitting before the 35-year-old man while tapping your pen against the metal table, you don't know if you deserve the “The detective who solved it all” title anymore.
“I killed Yuri” the man- Jae states bluntly.
He continued, “Had an affair with her and got her pregnant and I didn't want Hana to know, I did warn Yuri though, told her to get abortion but she was stubborn she said she didn't want to kill a life who hadn't even developed into a baby. But I didn't want that- I didn't want her or the child. I did what I thought was best-”
“And that is to kill her?” You can’t stop yourself, gripping the pen tightly as you yell.
Jae shrugged. “I did what I had to do.”
You don't understand why this is happening, why the past five cases you’ve been handled have been too easy to solve.
But one thing is for sure, you don't like it one bit.
You liked the critical thinking, assessment of the evidence and putting pieces together that come with the job.
But lately, the criminals are being found after you’ve only uncovered a few pieces of evidence.
Not that you aren't happy that the criminals are getting caught early but it's that it almost feels too unreal, too silly and too convenient for a criminal to be found with the first 3 clues.
Too absurd for the criminals to come out and confess- always with an underlying feeling and a strange tension you can’t quite place.
You look at him and ask, “So why are you confessing to me now when you tried to hide her body, hide the murder which you committed?”
Jae chuckles almost nervously “I guess I still have a thing for Yuri.”
You get up from your chair disgusted “Rot in jail bastard.”
With that, you leave the room with your mind full of thoughts and theories. And none of them make sense.
Now, back in your office, you sat pondering about the past five cases. A knock on your door snapped you out of your thoughts.
Detective Jun-ha, your senior, stuck his head in.
“That’s the sixth case you’ve solved in the past two weeks Ms. The detective who solved it all, are you sure you didn't make a deal with the devil?” Jun-ha, though technically your senior, never acts like one.
He has seen you grow. He was there through your thick and thin and he’s one of the few people who truly support you and are genuinely happy for you.
You gave him a tired chuckle. “Maybe I’m the devil. Anyways, what brings you here my dear senior?”
"Nothing, just checking up on my favourite detective” he says as you roll your eyes playfully.
"I'm doing alright, thanks for checking up on me senior”
“Good to know. I'll take my leave then” he says with a grin as he exits, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
Your smile fades as soon as the door shuts click.
This isn’t normal. It was like the justice system is on autopilot- making crime scenes easier and making criminals confess so that you have a perfect record. The nagging feeling in the back of your mind grows louder and louder.
You know it. You feel it. Someone is pulling strings...
A few days pass by. As you enter your office, the first thing you notice is a file placed neatly on your desk- an indicator that you got yourself a new case.
You walk over and flip it open.
There it is.
Nishimura Riki.
The most wanted serial killer in the city.
You aren't even surprised anymore. You’ve said the name often, seen it written across countless headlines, articles, reports, evidence sheets- it might as well be imprinted in your brain by now.
You get his cases often, it's like clockwork. Once in every three cases which took you no time to solve and are practically solved by themselves, his case awaits on your table.
A new one every time, only on your desk like the case only wants to be solved by you and no one else.
His cases are different, they make you work, really work.
They demand your attention, challenge your logic and wake up the parts of your brain which have been rusted due to the regular cases. Riki’s trail is cold.
His victims are killed unusually, are scattered, his patterns are confusing and if you are being honest to yourself, the only common piece in his puzzles is, you.
All of his cases only ever come to you and with each murder of his, it's like the universe is leaving his case for you to actually solve.
And beneath the pressure and fear, you almost feel relief because for once, you aren't being handed the answer. You are chasing it
As you are about to dig through the file, you get a call. The sound cuts through the silence like a blade.
“Ms.Y/n? We found a body. Linked to Nishimura. You are needed on-site. Now.”
You are already grabbing your coat, your mind preparing what to expect from him.
The alleyway is damp, cold and silent, completely as if its untouched by the chaos of the city around it. The streetlights flick, casting that glow on the body surrounded by rainwater.
You duck under the yellow tape. The officers nod at you, their faces pale. You nod back at them and look at her.
Female, early thirties. Clean, untouched except for the severe wound on her head. She has been posed. Elegantly, like someone took their time- as if it wasn't a murder but a performance.
What caught your eye was the folded piece of paper in her hand. You kneel and gently take the paper with gloved hands. You freeze as you open it.
It was a page torn from a novel- not just any novel- your favourite novel. The one that you mentioned briefly in an interview a year or two ago. No one ever bought it up again. The highlighted sentence, which was underlined by read ink reads,
“The hunter always smiles when the prey finally notices the traps.”
Your stomach twists. Because you know- this isn't just a message- it's an acknowledgement.
Acknowledgement that he’s watching you- not just your work but you.
And you don't know how to feel about that.
After inspecting the place, collecting evidence and talking to the nearby people you return to your office.
You walked into your office, but something was wrong. You locked your door- you were sure of it.
Yet there it is. On your chair. A plain black envelope. You quickly closed the door as you tear open the wax seal.
Jae was wasting your time. I handled it, you're welcome. You shouldn't have to clean their messes. You are meant for something greater- for me Tune out the voice, love. I'm the only sound worth hearing. Think smart, Detective This game is ours - Your R
You sit down slowly, the wait of the message heavy on your chest And you feel it- he's taking control of everything around you.
Watching your every move.
Eliminating every distraction.
For what?
For you.
You begin to notice the small things first.
The coffee on your desk, still hot and made the way you like it, even though no one was in the office when you arrived.
Your favourite pen- the one with the broken cap with no ink left- replaced by a new one.
Same colour. Same brand.
A hair tie on your desk whenever you chose to leave your hair loose.
Always made your skin crawl and made you look around you to see if someone was watching you.
Your instincts tell you to file a report, but something stops you.
You're a detective- why would you need another detective to help you?
That's what you told yourself.
This felt like more than surveillance. It felt like intimacy
Riki isn't just watching you work. He somehow made his way into your routine... Inside your life.
And the worst part?
You don't tell anyone- Why?
Because you are scared you'll be mistaken for paranoid rather than being right.
And that’s why you haven't been yourself lately.
You are always thinking. Something or the other runs through your mind 24/7. You haven't been able to sleep properly, fear clinging to you at night- the fear of being watched which caused you to not be energetic and more "alive-looking" in the morning.
And maybe that's the reason why you were seated across from Jun-ha after work hours in a café.
"Ok. C'mon y/n, what's going on with you?" Jun-ha asks unable to comprehend why you have been like this for the past week or so.
You chuckle awkwardly, "What do you mean, I'm doing just fine".
Jun-ha gives you a "Are you really fucking with me right now" look and says, "You know what I'm talking about, you look like a panda with your eye bags, you are always zoning out and you just look paranoid all the time."
There it is.
Exactly what you feared- people thinking you’re paranoid, when in reality, you are right. Someone Riki is watching you.
You don't want other people to perceive you as paranoid or delusional. So, you dismiss his worries and not-so-wrong accusations and say, "I'm just tired of dealing with his cases"
Jun-ha looks at you sympathetically, knowing who him means, "Ah I get it, his cases are so time consuming and hard- I wonder how you do it. Just be careful"
You nod at that as you drink your latte, the bitter taste staying in your throat.
After a few days, an autopsy report lands on your desk.
Victim: Male, age 27 Time of death: Between 2am-4am Cause of death: Cardiac arrest (supposedly).
You stare at the report, unease setting in your gut.
Something was wrong.
You visit the alleyway where the body had been found. The place covered with yellow "crime zone do not enter" tape and surrounded by multiple professionals.
You greet them briskly and make your way towards the scene. But you don't look at the body. No- you look around it.
Your eyes catch a half-opened water bottle lying a few feet away holding a small amount of liquid.
With gloved hands, and after confirming with the forensic team, you carefully pick it up and bring it closer.
You unscrew the cap and take a cautious sniff.
Minerals.
Sharp.
A chemical aftertaste that shouldn't be there.
Poison.
You sent it to the lab for testing- and the results came back quickly.
Confirmed.
Cyanide.
Cyanide- the silent killer. Efficient. Fast. And almost undetectable in standard reports, making it every seasoned criminal’s best friend and making it easier for them to get away with it.
But not on your watch.
Determined, you proceed to your next lead: Lee Haneul, the victim's girlfriend.
She's devasted when you met her- blood red eyes, trembling hands- but she’s cooperative.
"He left around midnight” she sniffles, “said he needed some air to clear his mind. He took his phone, headphones and his wallet"
You nod, scribbling your notes, "Before this... did he mention anything strange? Anything bothering him? Weird behaviour?”
She hesitates, then murmurs, "He... he said he'd been getting these creepy messages. Anonymous ones. He brushed them off — thought it was just one of his crazy stalker fans. He posted singing covers online... had a following."
You thank her gently, offer your condolences, and leave, mind already racing.
Back at your office, you immediately request access to the victim’s phone — the password provided willingly by Haneul.
You get his phone, and you extract the texts- there it is.
The last message received before his death: "Want to hear a song that ends with your last breath?"
You feel your skin crawl.
You run the sender’s IP number.
It's a burner. Obviously.
But you trace its last activity, a ping from a local library. You head to the nearby library and review the footage along with your team.
There. A hooded figure. Tall. Black hoodie. Walked out at 1:47 AM.
You zoom in.
A janitor’s badge clipped to his chest. You track him down with the help of the authorities.
His name: Park Minjae.
Minjae is pale as a ghost under the harsh lights of the interrogation room
"I-I didn't kill him!” he stammers, wide-eyed.
“I swear, I just saw someone dragging something in the alleyway, I got scared- so I hid"
You lean forward, "Why didn't you call the cops?"
He swallows thickly. "Because... because he saw me. He looked me dead in the eyes and then he smiled. Like he knew I'd keep quiet"
You narrow your gaze.
“And this message.” You ask, showing him the threatening text.
He widens his eyes and shakes his head frantically. "No! My phone broke a few days ago. I got it repaired but afterward, it started acting weird — random messages being sent, glitches everywhere. Turns out... it got hacked."
He's telling the truth. You know it in your gut.
"Do you remember his face?" You ask quietly.
"Uh y-yeah I do"
You nod and show him a photo- Nishimura Riki mug shot.
Recognition flashes instantly across Minjae's face. "That's him! That’s the guy!"
Which means...
Riki left a witness.
That's sloppy. Thats not like him- at all.
Was it just a mistake? Or was it something else?
You began thinking- thinking of anything that could help your case move forward.
And then it clicked.
Cyanide.
There are only two registered mineral industries in the city who had legal authority over cyanide.
You immediately dispatch teams to both.
One industry reports a suspicious transaction a week prior — security footage confirms it: a man matching Riki’s build, wearing a mask.
Under pressure, the supplier, Lee Seo-Jun, folds quickly under interrogation.
And when he does, he gives up an address.
Registered under the name Kang Tae-jin- A name connected to exactly nothing.
A perfect ghost.
Until now.
Your team gears up and storms the listed property — a sleek, modern house nestled in the city's quieter outskirts.
Guns raised, shouting orders, you breach the door.
And there he is.
Nishimura Riki.
You visit the jail’s visiting room. It's quiet. Unsettling.
He’s already there.
Handcuffed, relaxed, sitting like he owns the room.
His eyes lift the moment you walk in.
And for the first time, you look him in the eye.
Not through photographs. Not across crime scenes.
Here, In person.
“Y/N,” he murmurs. “Finally.” voice soft—softer than you imagined, almost delicate.
"You're earlier than I expected," he says, tone almost... proud. Proud of you- your skills.
His eyes glint. “Though I didn’t want you to find me yet,” he says softly.
He shakes his head, “You were beautiful out there,” he says even softer.
The silence thickens, pressing up against the walls.
You finally break it. “Why? Why all of this? Why the murders, the notes, the chase?”
He leans in, and for the first time, the smile drops.
“Because you weren’t supposed to waste yourself on simple men and simpler crimes. They don’t deserve your mind. I do.”
You feel your stomach twist. “You killed them to get my attention?”
“No. I killed them to clear your schedule.”
“Riki—”
“No,” he interrupts, voice rising just a little. “You were drifting. Getting tired. Losing yourself in noise. I fixed that.” His gaze pins you on the spot.
“You’re here. With me. And don’t tell me it’s because of the law.” He tilts his head slightly, smile inching back.
“Because we both know—you wanted this too.”
You stare at him, heart hammering. Unsure if the chill running down your spine is fear… or something else.
He leans back, eyes still on you.
"I told you this is our story, baby"
You don't know what makes you stand up- rage or disgust or the terrifying part of you that understands him a little too well.
Your chair scrapes loudly against the floor. Riki’s eyes follow your movement lazily, like a wolf watching its prey.
You want to leave. You should leave. But you don’t.
Instead, you lean closer. Hands flat on the cold table separating you from him.
"You're sick," you whisper.
His smile grows, slow and poisonous.
"I'm devoted," he corrects, voice warm like he’s confessing love — not murder.
You clench your fists, trying to steady your breathing.
"You destroyed lives. Families. You ruined people just to get to me Riki"
Riki tilts his head, handcuffs clinking softly with the movement.
"Ruined?" he echoes.
"I think of it more like... rearranging the world around you.”
You open your mouth —
but he leans in so fast, so close, you freeze.
Only inches between you and him now.
And when he speaks again, his voice is barely a breath:
"You feel it too, don't you?"
His eyes are searching yours, merciless.
"The world makes sense when you're with me."
Your throat tightens.
You can't move.
Can't think.
His next words are quieter than a whisper — a blade against your skin:
"You were always mine to catch, Detective."
The guard bangs on the door, warning that visiting time is over.
You step back, almost stumbling, heart hammering against your ribs.
Riki watches you go, a soft smile curling at his lips —
as if the real game has only just begun.
The door slams between you, but you swear you still feel his gaze.
Watching. Waiting. Smiling...

Wordcount: 1.8k
!!! DEAD DOVE: DO NOT EAT/DARK CONTENT !!!
Your mom had finally done it. She found a halfway decent guy and let him wife her up faster than you could say 'I do.' You weren't exactly mad about it. He was a decent enough guy, and he made your mom happy, so whatever. The only part that you were against was the fact that you would be staying with your estranged father for the rest of your summer until your mom and her boy-toy got back from their extensive honeymoon.
Your dad fucked off pretty quickly after you were born. Moved himself far away into the middle of nowhere, not once reaching out or keeping in touch. A small part of you wanted to know him, but a larger part of you was pissed that you would have to now temporarily live with a man who you could just barely remember the name of.
What was it again? Leonard? Lucas? No, no, that's not right. Leon? Yeah, something like that. Leon.
Leon, the man who left you and your mom. The man who, instead of raising you, decided to lick his wounds in the deep country, likely making a meager living off of growing potatoes and carrots. The man who was a stranger, connected to you only by blood.
The man whose front porch you were currently standing on, banging on his door without a care in the world. You looked around while you knocked. It was a large bit of land. A few neighbors nearby, but not within spitting distance. At the very least, this town had a few stores with maybe a few people your age lingering around them.
"I'm coming, damn it!" His steps were loud, you could hear them from all the way outside. The heaviness of his work boots must've weighed him down quite a bit. The screen door flew open and his face softened. "Oh, hey kid. Didn't know you'd be here so early. Come in."
You followed him inside, letting your eyes trail his face and frame. You'd only seen a picture or two of him before. He wasn't quite what you were expecting. He looked a lot older now than he did in the photos. More tired, less lively. His crow's feet and smile lines stuck out, but if the lonely, uncomfortable vibe of his house was any clue, you assumed he hadn't been smiling much in his life.
He wasn't bad looking, though. Time hasn't weathered him, and you could tell he took care of himself. His arms and chest looked strong, clearly he had found some way to stay fit out in his desolate chunk of farmer-country. You could see why your mom picked him. He looked like a good one, despite his fleeting nature.
"You're gonna be stayin' for a few months, yeah?" Leon didn't seem uncomfortable with your presence, so you felt a bit more calm.
"Yeah, I guess so. Mom didn't really give me all the details, just kinda sprung it on me."
"Believe me, I know," he said under his breath. "Well, this place isn't much, 'm sure it's not what you're used to." He locked the door behind you and flashed an apologetic look.
"It's fine. I'll make it work." You looked around. It looked lived in, strangely worn despite nobody else ever living there.
He led you down a dimly lit hallway, the floorboards groaning beneath their weight, until they reached a single room. It was a small bedroom, adorned with faded wallpaper and completely wooden furniture. The single window offered a glimpse of the bare, green landscape outside.
"This'll be your room. You can unpack your things."

Hardly a week passed by and you were already sick to death of living with your dad. His jokes were bad. His cooking was shit. His attempts at bonding with you were creepy at best and damn near-assault at worst. He let his hands drift all over you when he pulled you in for hugs and tried pecking a kiss on your mouth before you went off to bed each night, and damn it, you let him.
Again and again, every night, letting that old man press his chapped lips against yours, holding back your urge to force your tongue into his mouth.
He bought you gifts that no other fathers would think about getting their daughters. Skimpy little clothes that left nothing to the imagination, while he wrote it off by claiming ignorance.
"That's what girls your age wear, right? I can't keep up with what you kids are into," Leon would say, covering his ass with feigned dopiness.
His only redeeming quality was that he was hot and mostly oblivious. It was fucked up to think about it that way, but without having much other male contact during your stay, Leon was starting to becoming quite the piece of eye candy. The best part is that he thought nothing of it, acting like his teenaged daughter spending hours staring at his half-naked, sweaty body while he worked in the hot sun was normal. Just another day. Nothing special.
He didn't make you work on the farm with him, so you got to do all the watching. You got to see those strong arms lift hay bales for the horses and chop trees for firewood. Most of your days were spent watching him from the front porch, mentally cursing yourself out when you felt your thighs clench together instinctually at his sexy movements.
What was wrong with you?
Were years of fatherlessness finally catching up to you? Couldn't muster any real love for the old man, so sexual yearning was the next best thing? Eye-fucking your dad and sharing touches that lasted too long were the cost of him skipping out on you.
You rationalized it the best you could. Maybe you didn't actually want him, maybe the solitude of the countryside was getting to you. Maybe there was something in the air, some kind of sex-pollen floating in the breeze that made you wanna get bent over by a man twice your age that just so happened to be related to you. Closely related.

Leon didn't really know how to treat a woman well, but he tried his best with you. It was his first time really being a dad, but honestly, he hated it. Being a 'dad' sucked, especially when he'd rather have his daughter as his girlfriend.
You made him so frustrated, so unsure of himself. Leon's only experience with girl's your age was in getting them liquor they couldn't legally buy themselves, fucking them like plastic sex dolls, and leaving them for someone else to woo and screw.
He couldn't quite do that to you, though. He couldn't get you drunk and take advantage of you, pumping and dumping in you without a care about your pleasure. He had to take care of you, your health and comfort. All he really wanted was to take care of your body.
You were his little girl. He'd fuck you like he actually gave a damn about you if he ever got the chance, and he most definitely wouldn't be leaving you for anyone else.
That type of thinking brought him here.
"Daddy, please..."
The walls in his house were too damn thin. He could practically hear each thrust of your fingers into your cunt from his bedroom. Your bed screeched agonizingly against the floors, punctuating your moans and hisses of pleasure.
He saw his opportunity and took it. He had waited long enough, and this was the least he could do, right? You needed him, right? Right.
He pushed your door open, not having the decency nor the self-restraint to knock. You felt your body go still, but kept your hands between your legs.
"If you needed me, coulda told me. Don't like t'hear you in here whining." Leon sat on the edge of your bed, crawling his way between your legs. "Fuck, that's pretty."
He took in the sight of your fingers stuffed into your pudgy cunt, slick dripping between each digit.
"No, you're—! this isn't what it—" you tried prying your fingers out, but a strong hand wrapped around your wrist to keep you in place.
"Isn't what it looks like? How about what it sounds like, huh? Sounds like you want your daddy to dull that ache in you."
He was so far gone. He normally never did this. Leon was a man who took. He took younger girls virginity, mouth, pussy, or other. He was the one that got sucked off and got his perv dick wet. But for his baby? You, the little nymph who fell gracefully into his grasp? He was foaming at the mouth for a chance to slurp your pussy.
"Open up, come on. Got nothin' to be shy about," he urged, forcing your legs open, pulling your fingers out, and shimmying closer to you. "Nothin' I haven't seen before."
That was somewhat of a lie. Sure, he saw pussies all the time when he bullied his cock into them, but he was normally never nose to clit, ready to lick.
He stuck his needy tongue out, lapping up the juices that you worked up when you rubbed yourself raw. He swirled around you clit as a test, trying to see what felt good for you. He soon settled on puckering his lips around your bud and sucking, swapping his spit in and out of his mouth to keep you lubed up.
Your voice broke with hushed whines and chants. Yes's and oh's rang out, filling Leon's ears and his ego.
He pulled his head back and lob a wad of spit onto your clit, chuckling when you shivered.
"Feel good?" His thumb traced your clit in little figure eights.
"Mm, s'good." Your hands trailed through his thick, soft hair. You gripped it tightly, pulling his head back to your cunt. "No, don't stop, jus' need your mouth again."
His sharp, strong nose bumped against the top of your pussy while he munched down on you greedily. His tongue traveled around you in an indecisive manner. One moment, he was using flat strokes to lick on your swollen nub, then pointing his tongue while he fucked it in and out of you.
Despite the sporadic nature of it, the warmth and wetness of the contact of his mouth on you felt like heaven. It didn't matter what he was doing, as long as he was looking up at you with his piercing eyes and swallowing down your slick, you were satisfied.
"Dad, oh my God, yes!" It felt like venom coming off of your tongue when you moaned it, but tasted like honey at the same time. Something about it was so wrong, but felt so natural.
As your legs tightened around Leon's head and trapped him between your thighs, you knew it was meant to be. You were meant to be your daddy's princess. You were meant to feel like mouth on you, to be spoiled by his tongue, words, money, and his cock. You had been missing out on it for so long.
You spent the rest of your summer making up for lost time, discovering just what having a daddy was meant to feel like.

see for yourself ⋆ sirius black
summary: after a party, you tell sirius how you ended things with the guy you've been seeing because he was a bit jealous of your friendship with him. sirius shows you that maybe he was right to be.
"You're in a good mood."
Sirius looks at you from his place on the floor and grins, wild and boyish. It makes your stomach do flips that you'd rather not think about too much, lest it leads to things you really shouldn't be thinking about.
"Must be your charming company," he says before looking back up at the ceiling, fingers laced behind his head.
He's laying spreadeagle on the hardwood floor, staring up at the slowly rotating fan and taking occasional swigs from an open bottle of Firewhisky beside him. Everyone but Remus, with whom Sirius shares the flat, had already gone home hours ago, leaving only you and Sirius behind in the living room.
You roll your eyes even though he can't see you doing it, setting your empty cup on the coffee table. You lean back against the sofa and fold one leg up under the other so you can turn to face him fully. "Remind me again why you're not sitting on furniture like a normal person?"
"It's more fun down here." He turns his head enough for you to catch his wolfish grin. "Care to join me?"
"Oh no," you laugh, shaking your head. "I should be getting home anyway. It's late."
Sirius frowns and pushes himself up into a sitting position. The look in his gray eyes is equal parts amusement and disappointment. "On a Friday night? Come on, love, we're barely tipsy. Besides, you still haven't told me what happened between you and that wanker you were seeing."
"There's nothing to tell," you shrug.
He scoffs as he crawls across the floor towards you. You bite the inside of your cheek when Sirius hoists himself onto the sofa beside you and pulls one leg up to his chest. There's a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth that doesn't seem quite as innocent as you'd like it to be.
"He looked pretty pissed off when he left," he says, twirling a long strand of your hair around his index finger. "What'd you say to him?"
"I didn't say anything. And we were together for barely three weeks. I was just...he wasn't the right guy, okay? Now shush."
You make a halfhearted attempt to turn away from him, but Sirius laughs softly and rests his head on your shoulder. "You don't say."
"Sirius."
"What? I'm glad you didn't waste any more time on that tosser. He would never have made you happy."
"How would you know?"
Sirius lifts his head and leans back far enough to look at you. His expression is one of smug self-confidence as he says, "Because I know everything."
"Everything, huh?"
"Everything."
You quirk an eyebrow. "Well then, what am I thinking right now?"
His eyes flick down to your lips for a brief moment before they find yours again, but it's enough for heat to rise in your cheeks. You could swear he starts to move closer before he blinks and turns away with a dry laugh, but by then you're not so sure anymore. "That you're bored of talking about this dolt."
The ache of disappointment in your chest must be almost palpable, because Sirius furrows his brow and asks, "Is everything alright?"
"Yup."
"You're lying."
"No, I'm not."
Sirius gives you a knowing look and shifts on the sofa to face you more fully. His knee knocks against yours. "Don't tell me you're hung up over that berk."
"Not in the slightest."
"Liar."
"I'm not," you insist. "Really."
"Did he break your heart or something? I'll break his arm."
You laugh, though you doubt Sirius is actually joking. "Nothing happened. He was just jealous. That's all."
He frowns, then narrows his eyes at you. "Jealous of who?"
"Oh, you know, the usual suspects," you say lightly, waving a hand as if to dismiss the topic completely. But when Sirius remains silent, you let out a slow breath and (as you usually do when it comes to him) give in. "You, mostly. He said some stuff, and I didn't take too kindly to it."
A wry smile spreads across Sirius' face. He looks delighted. "What'd he say about me?"
"Seriously?"
"Absolutely."
With a dramatic roll of your eyes, you rest your head back against the cushion behind you and say, "He thinks you, uh...you know, fancy me or something. That we spend too much time together. But I told him that he's crazy, obviously."
"Obviously."
The following silence bothers you.
You turn your head enough to see Sirius' face. He's staring back at you, an unreadable expression on his face. Then, after several moments of more tense silence, he whispers, "What if I do fancy you?"
"Sure you do," you mutter, rolling your eyes again.
Sirius places his palm on top of the hand resting between the two of you and brushes his thumb over your knuckles. "I could show you."
It takes a moment for you to register the offer.
"Did you drink more than I realized?"
"Just enough for the liquid courage to work."
Your tongue feels like sandpaper. "Sirius."
"Mmhm."
"Stop being ridiculous."
"Who says I'm being ridiculous?" he asks, bringing your hand to his lips and pressing a light kiss to your skin. "Maybe I'm madly in love with you. Have you considered that?"
You swallow, trying to ignore the way your stomach is doing somersaults. "This isn't funny, Padfoot."
"It's not supposed to be funny."
"But—"
He cuts you off by cupping your cheek and leaning in close enough for you to feel his warm breath on your lips. It smells of Firewhisky and mint. "Kiss me and see for yourself."
"You must be drunk."
"Only tipsy," he reminds you. "Or maybe a little drunk on you."
"You know, you're not half as funny as—mmph!"
He's kissing you. Sirius is kissing you, and dear sweet Merlin, you could swear that the world's tilting beneath you as his hands pull you closer. He hums contentedly when he feels you reciprocating, cradling your face between his palms as if to make sure that you won't go anywhere.
Not that you intend to.
It's the kind of kiss that steals your breath away. The kind of kiss you can lose yourself in without even realizing it, especially when one of his hands slides into your hair, and you moan involuntarily into his mouth.
Sirius laughs breathlessly against your lips as he eases you down onto your back. His fingers dance along your jawline before he curls them under your chin, tilting your head back and kissing his way down your throat.
"I think this went better than expected," he murmurs, pausing long enough to gently bite down on the sensitive spot where your neck meets your shoulder. You gasp.
Sirius sits up suddenly. His hair hangs in front of his face like a dark curtain and his eyes glitter with amusement when he pushes it back. Your pulse jumps when you see the slight redness of his lips and the hint of mischief on his face. "Don't tell me you're getting shy now."
"Shut up."
He leans down and kisses you again, groaning low in his throat as your hands slide up the broad expanse of his back. "I'm starting to think you fancy me, too," he whispers, words ghosting over your mouth.
"Yeah," you admit sheepishly, sliding your hands up and over his shoulders. "I may have been lying earlier. It's not that crazy."
"May have?"
"Fine, I did lie."
"I knew it."
He looks far too smug. Just this once, you don't really mind.

Every Single Thing I Have ₊⊹ One Shot
ଳ Character; Michael Kaiser (Bllk)
ଳ Tags; mostly fluff, a bit of angst (happy ending), soft mihya, gn reader, no y/n
ଳ Note; inspired by Two by Sleeping at Last!
Selfish. Manipulative. Cold.
Those were the words often associated to him. You were well aware of what he was like on the field or how he treated others. But you could never seem to agree with them.
To you, Michael Kaiser was the most selfless and loving person you've come across in your life.
Sweetheart, you look a little tired When did you last eat? Come in and make yourself right at home Stay as long as you need
You knew the hardships that came with dating a football star. Everything else you could stomach, but to be away from him for weeks on end was something you couldn't overcome. So, whenever he left the country, he'd tell you to stay at his place for the time being. It's not quite the same as having him around, but to live in his space was comforting enough.
You'd sleep in his bed, occasionally use his clothes, and even bathe with his shampoo at times—all just to feel that he's right here with you. Sometimes he wonders why you haven't moved in yet.
You'd always say that you want to be financially stable first, not wanting to freeload off of him. But he scoffs each time.
"Love, I don't give a shit about that. I just want you here in my home," he'd always say.
His place was as good as yours. Parts of the apartment were decorated how you'd want it. You even had more products in the bathroom than he did. He'd integrate you in every particle of his life if he could.
Whenever he was around, he made sure you lived like royalty. You aren't allowed to lift a finger on his watch.
"Mihya, can you please just sit down for a moment? You just came home from practice remember?"
As always, he'd ignore you. "I'm only making dinner. No big deal."
"We can have our food delivered, so you can rest. Y'know?"
"And have you eat junk like fast food? No thanks," he retorts. Truthfully, as much as he cared about your health, he actually wanted to cook because it would be faster than waiting for a delivery. It had been hours since his last meal. It was often like that when he had practice. Time flies and eating becomes an after thought. But he never tells you that; he never wants you to worry about him.
You grumble. "Please, Mihya? I'll order us some food and you come here and cuddle with me instead."
You drive a hard bargain, he thought. Food can wait. He shuffled towards you on the sofa and plopped right beside you. His tattooed arm drapes over you in an instant.
You smile, knowing the hold you had over him.
Even with the bags under his eyes, he was still so handsome. Cupping his face, you caressed his cheek with your thumb. "Have you been sleeping well? Look at these bags."
He offers a lopsided smile in return. "If you think I'm ugly just say so."
You giggle at his dramatics. "You are literally the most beautiful man I've laid eyes upon," you say while pinching his cheek. "But seriously, are you getting enough sleep? You work too hard sometimes." He sighs, leaning into your touch. He brings up his hand to hold yours. "I get to sleep beside you later no? That's all that matters to me, love."
Tell me, is something wrong? If something's wrong, you can count on me You know I'll take my heart clean apart If it helps yours beat
If there's one thing in the world he hates more than himself, it was to see you in pain. Your tears were his kryptonite. Part of him hated to see you cry because he loved you too much. But another hated it because it reminded him of all the times he would cry when he was younger.
Hot salty tears triggered him; it stirred unwanted emotions within him. But he had to suck it up whenever you needed a shoulder to cry on. One of you had to stay strong and he'd gladly be the one to fill in the role.
He'd hold you—cradle you until everything was alright again. "Shhh, it's alright I'm here. I'm not going anywhere."
Kaiser had you in his arms. His grasp was as gentle as his words. It soothed you. Even if your eyes were swollen and muddled with tears, you could still see the pain in his eyes. It tugged at your heart knowing he felt so deeply for you. You'd go on a tangent about how cruel and unfair the world is—and he would agree. He had many things to say as well, but he had to put you first.
You'd cry and cry until you can't anymore. Exhaustion takes over and you simply pass out on his bed, unaware of the inner turmoil brewing inside of him. Kaiser sat beside you, weary face buried in his calloused palms. He wanted to cry as well.
But he couldn't because then you'd wake up.
It's okay if you can't find the words Let me take your coat And this weight off of your shoulders
You were the luckiest person in the world. Kaiser was everything—handsome, talented, financially stable, loving, and secure. At least... that's what you thought.
It wasn't your fault that he had an ongoing battle in his mind. If you knew, no doubt that you would help him. But he made sure to leave you disillusioned with his well-crafted facade.
When he's with you, he's all smiles. He's always strong enough for the both of you. When you're down—he's there to lift you up. And when you're at your highest—he's just right behind you, cheering you on.
He only wallows in his self-pity when he's alone—when you're far away from him. He couldn't bear the idea of you finding out how weak he truly was. He was scared that one day you'll realize what piece of trash he is for lying to you all this time.
Like a force to be reckoned with A mighty ocean or a gentle kiss I will love you with every Single thing I have
"Love, what do you want for your birthday?" You hum, tapping a finger on your chin as if to show him you were thinking hard. After a while, you come up with your answer.
"I just want you. That's all." His eyes widen for moment, but he quickly composes himself. He knew you were a simple person, but he expected something material... something of value. To think you'd settle for something so little was preposterous.
"That's all? You don't want a necklace or?"
Then your eyes light up. Ah... there it was. He got his hopes up too early. Of course, you want something expensive—something nice that actually had value and—
"How about we make those friendship bracelets? Y'know like we could DIY them with our own beads then make each other a bracelet? Can weeee?"
"For your birthday?" he asked quizzically. Kaiser was taken aback. What about the necklace? Were you really that easy to please? "Yes, for my birthday. I mean... we could go out to dinner or something. I'm fine with anything as long as you're there." He falls silent. Kaiser had never felt this before... the feeling of being needed. He knows he probably looks like an idiot, staring at you like he had seen a ghost. But he couldn't help it. His heart was throbbing and that was the only thing he could focus on.
Your expression drops as soon as you see his blank stare. "Hey... I mean, if bracelets aren't your thing then—" He cuts you off with a hug. It took you a while to reciprocate because it came out of nowhere. Sure, he hugs you all the time, but this hug in particular felt heavy—like it had some meaning behind it.
"Mihya? Are you okay?" you ask, wrapping your arms around him in response. And he'd hold you tighter. He'd screw his eyes shut, savoring your warmth as if it was only temporary. "Let's do those bracelets... just tell me where we can buy the beads."
He would gladly buy every single kind and more. He'd give you everything... everything that he could.
Like a tidal wave, we'll make a mess Or calm waters, if that serves you best I will love you without any strings attached
You liked to repay him in little ways. Of course, you weren't required to do so, but you wanted to. It felt like a crime to not give back to the overwhelming love that he offers up to you.
That's why you found yourself in his kitchen at 10 in the evening, hunched over on the counter and eyeing the sorry excuse of a cake you just made.
He had recently won a practice match. It wasn't anything major, but you made it a point to celebrate every single achievement of his. However, it was the first time you attempted to bake something for him. You had envisioned for him to come home from practice and be greeted by a freshly baked chocolate cake.
But you messed it up. Somehow, it ended up both undercooked and overcooked. It was impressive in its own right.
You wanted to start over from scratch, but he was already on his way home. In fact, you were so absorbed in your failure that you missed the sound of the door opening and closing.
"Love? Where are you? I smell something burnt..."
He pokes his head into the kitchen and finds you slumped over with a brown lump on a plate in front of you. He walks over to you and rubs your back comfortingly.
"I wanted to make a cake, but... it looks like shit."
He laughs. "What for?"
Your sad eyes met his amused expression, arms instinctively wrapping around him. You were embarrassed by your subpar baking skills that you had to hide your face from him. "The practice match you won yesterday." His chest booms with laughter and he brings a hand to gently caress your hair. "It's alright, love. I appreciate the gesture." Peeling away from him, you couldn't help but look at the cake with disdain. "Yeah, but it's inedible."
Kaiser raises an eyebrow at you. He picks up the fork nearby and takes a piece of the cake. It was gooier than what you expected. "Hey! Don't eat it!" But it was too late, he had shoved the piece in his mouth and was already chewing. You watched in horror as he swallowed what might be undercooked batter.
"Tastes like cake to me." Your jaw drops. "You could've eaten the cooked part you know?" "Heh, where is the cooked part you speak of?" You pretended to be offended. There probably wasn't any perfectly cooked parts on this cake, but he didn't have to rub it in your face like that.
But you both laughed it off. You spent that night with him chatting over your poor chocolate cake. Kaiser was just happy that you went out of your way to do something for him. Truly, he didn't need anything in return. He loved you because... that's what he thinks he was made for.
The cake was shit, but for some reason it tasted so good when he ate it with you.
It's okay if you can't catch your breath You can take the oxygen straight Out of my own chest
As perfect as you deem your relationship to be, of course, there were misunderstandings here and there. They were usually fixed with a simple "sorry" and a warm hug.
But this time was different. It was a full blown fight. Perhaps both of you were tired and frustrated. Neither of you even noticed it had turned into a shouting match—not until Kaiser felt a familiar and haunting pang in his chest.
Images of his father crossed his mind. He was reminded of the hurtful things the old man hurled at him. Suddenly, he lost the will to fight back. It wasn't long before you noticed the shift in the atmosphere.
Silence enveloped the both of you as you stood apart from each other. You had never seen this expression on his face before. As much as he hated vulnerability, he croaked out words faster than he could realize.
"Please don't leave me."
It was soft enough that if it were any lower, you probably would have missed it. You were frozen in place. You were fighting, but it had never occurred to you the desire to leave him. Why would he say such a thing?
"Mihya?" You cautiously walked towards him and took his hands in yours. "I never thought about leaving you." He focused on the way your thumbs brushed over his knuckles. It was foreign to him—how he could be shouted at and comforted right after.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for you to think that way," you apologized.
Then... a tear rolled down his cheek. You swore your heart fell to your stomach. Kaiser had never cried in front of you before.
"Mihya? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I promise I'm not going to leave you..."
Your hands let go of his to hold on to his arms instead. "Please talk to me..."
He tried to hide his frown by lowering his head, but his sorrow was palpable. "You promise?"
"I swear on my life."
Your promise only served to coax more tears out of him. As much as he hated his current display of emotions—he couldn't avoid it. The warmth, the happiness, and the security you offer up to him was too much to bear.
He used to think he wasn't deserving of anything close to love, but here you were—proving him wrong time and time again. Maybe... just maybe... he did actually deserve it.
His dream of being loved could become true after all.
I know exactly how the rule goes: Put my mask on first No, I don't want to talk about myself Tell me where it hurts
After that particular fight, you became more observant of him. You felt stupid that you didn't notice his pain sooner. He was too good at concealing his true feelings that you were fooled into thinking that he was okay. But he really wasn't.
However, you knew better than to force it out of him. Slowly but surely, you tried to help him open up to you. But your efforts were futile. He'd always wave it off and smile at you. It was the same smile that had tricked you in the past.
"I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?"
"What about you, love? Have you been taking care of yourself?"
"Don't mind me. I'm strong, right?"
But Kaiser was a liar and you knew. He wasn't fine and he wasn't as strong as he made himself out to be. You both had your own pains, but you wanted both of you to overcome them together.
A frown crossed your face whenever he dismissed your worries, but you knew better than to force it out of him. All you could do is wipe the frown off your face and etch a small smile instead.
One day... one day he'll tell it all to you—when he isn't scared anymore.
I just want to build you up, build you up 'Til you're good as new And maybe one day I will get Around to fixing myself too
Kaiser thought he was suffocating. But wasn't he asleep? Ah... he was dreaming. There were times when he applauded his mind for being so excellently vivid at imagining the field. He was a master of metavision after all. But this cursed ability made his dreams feel all too real.
The hands that gripped his neck felt far too tangible, like there were fingers constricting his air flow. And those eyes... those eyes that detested him like he was nothing more than trash. The hatred was so conspicuous that it made him sweat in a fully airconditioned room.
After struggling for what seemed like forever, Kaiser snapped out of it. He sat up in bed and looked around. As expected, he was met with darkness; the faint light filtering through the window barely illuminated his bedroom. Frantically, he looked to the side and was pacified momentarily by the sight of you sleeping peacefully next to him.
You had rolled over to the farthest side of the bed, unaware of what was happening to him. Kaiser pulled his knees towards him, resting his elbows on the peaks and burying his face in his palms. He desperately wanted to calm down his racing heartbeat.
Why did he have to infiltrate his dreams? Didn't he torment him enough already? What did he do in his past life that made him deserve this kind of torture? Why?
Why?
Too caught up in his thoughts, Kaiser hadn't noticed the way you stirred in your sleep or how you had noticed that he was awake. Before he knew it, arms had snaked around his waist.
"Why are you still awake?"
You were still groggy, so perhaps you didn't notice the distress written all over his face. But you squeezed him tighter. Your instincts told you that he needed it. And he needed it badly.
"Come back to bed. I'll hold you."
He does what he was told. You slowly pulled him back into bed with you, never letting him go. You scoot closer to him as humanly possible. Kaiser didn't mind that you left no space between the two of you. If he was going to be suffocated, it might as well be by your embrace.
"Did you have a nightmare?"
He felt your breath fan against the warm skin of his neck. Your lips lightly brushed the sensitive skin as you spoke. He reached up to caress your arm, trying to reciprocate the affection you were giving him.
He only hummed in response, not wanting to elaborate further. You were sleepy as it is; there was no need for him to snap you out of your rest for his sake.
"I'll be fine... I have you with me." That's right, he thought. He had you. Everything would be fine if he had you.
Kaiser still had lingering feelings of pain inflicted by the violent hands and the hateful scrutiny of his father. But he hoped that one day you'd wash those feelings away. Kaiser hoped that your gentle touches and loving gaze would make him anew.
Somehow, maybe, you could fix the disaster that was Michael Kaiser.
I don't even know where to start Already tired of trying to recall When it all fell apart
He knew it was wrong to rely solely on you. Happiness came from loving oneself—they say. But it was impossible. Every time he let himself alone with his thoughts it would always make him spiral.
Kaiser watched from the marble counter as you swayed your hips to the funky music that played in the kitchen. You were cooking some fancy dish that he forgot the name of.
As you observed every movement you made, he slowly started to entertain the idea of finally opening up to you. But, as always, the same thoughts hindered him.
What if you look at him differently? What if it pushes you away? What if you realize that maybe his father was right?
It was unlikely, but not impossible—at least that's what his mind would say. But then he was reminded of your face. He could melt whenever he recalled the soft expression on your face as you told him you'd always be there for him.
So... maybe...
"Hey."
You turn around at his call. "What's up?"
He gulps. This is it. "Can we talk after dinner? I have something I want to tell you."
You almost dropped your spatula. "Is it bad? Because if it's bad I won't be able to eat a bite of what I made."
He chuckled. Typical you.
"Don't worry. I just want to tell you a story."
I just want to love you, to love you To love you well just want to learn how, somehow To be loved myself
You were never this engrossed in a story before. No words escaped your mouth. Instead, you nodded along with every word he spoke. You could tell that he was trying his utmost best to keep a neutral face, but your heart broke knowing how caged he must have felt.
He poured his heart out. Kaiser was still scared, that much was true. But he was a point of no return. You already knew much of it, so what was the point of hiding any of his remaining emotions?
He bared it all for you, not missing a detail. He wanted you—desperately wanted you—to understand what he struggled with. He figured that if you did, maybe he'd finally find peace in himself knowing that the person he loves still accepts him despite his faults.
I will love you without any strings attached And what a privilege it is to love A great honor to hold you up
When he exhausted himself of every tidbit of his life, he stared at you and your dumbfounded expression. You had so much to say to him, but at the same time, you didn't know what to say. You wanted to mutter anything—literally anything to at least let him know that you were listening.
"I love you, Mihya."
You blurted out the first thing that came to mind. But really, it was the only thing on your mind. Everything that you wanted to say—the comforting words, the advice—everything boiled down to those 4 words.
He was a troubled man, that much you knew. You weren't ignorant of his attitude when you weren't around. And you knew that he was always keeping some part of himself hidden even from you. Just like him, you felt a weight lift off your shoulders.
Kaiser finally trusted you enough with this. And now you understood why he was such a selfless lover. He valued you so much to the point that he thought you were the best thing he would ever have in his lifetime and he would be a massive idiot to let you go.
He did everything in his power to make you happy and to make you feel loved.
So, wouldn't it be right for you to do the same?
You smile and take his shaking hands in yours. A beautiful promise falls from your lips:
"And I will love you with every single thing I have."

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ a presumptuous affair
summary: kalim mistakes you, a random barista, for jamil's date. you go along with it tropes: coffee shop au, fake dating characters: jamil additional info: romantic, gender neutral reader, reader is not yuu, use of y/n, a little kalim x yuu, kinda long, a kissy
As if today couldn't get any weirder...
For a moment, you had almost believed it was fortune. You made it to work on time despite the snow, your shift manager let you take the afternoon off, even your customers were feeling generous- your tip jar was almost to the brim.
And then it got weird.
"Jamil, look! See how cute these cookies are? It's like they're dressed up for the new year!"
That sparkly ray of sunshine has had his hands and nose pressed against the glass of the pastry case all morning. He's dressed in a Night Raven College uniform, but you can't imagine what someone so cute would be wearing it for.
"I just can't decide what to get! Everything looks so good!"
On the contrary, the taller, quieter, tired-looking boy, the one called Jamil, standing by the door, suited his uniform quite nicely.
"I'm sure the Prefect will be pleased with whatever you choose for them, Kalim. We're going to be late,"
The sparkly one (Kalim, was it?) pouts. "But this is our first new year's party together! Usually, I'd just buy everything, but they said..."
"Only one thing. I know. Surely, with all the time you spend together, you'd know their preferences,"
"I do! But it's hard... you'd understand if you had a date, too, Jamil,"
He narrows his eyes. "I'll be kept busy enough by the party,"
"Aw, that's no fun. You should enjoy yourself, too! If you need any help finding a date, I'd be happy to ask for you!"
"That is completely unnecessary-"
You finish wiping down the case, having shamelessly eavesdropped on the entire conversation. "May I make a pastry suggestion?"
Kalim's eyes widen, as if he'd forgotten you were standing behind the sparkly glass, but Jamil nods.
"Please, please do. And thank you..." his eyes dart down to the nametag on your apron. "Y/N."
"You guys know each other? Oh! I see," Kalim grins.
"Now I know why we came here instead of my favorite place- this is your date!"
The silence is almost worst than the bickering. You and Jamil (perfect strangers, by the way) exchange similar expressions of surprise, while Kalim grins, waiting to be introduced, or... something.
You open your mouth, but before you can explain yourself or the rather presumptuous affair, Jamil nods.
"Yes. This is them,"
He gives you a look that either says "please go along with it" or "I will make you go along with it" but you're too shocked to speak, anyway.
Kalim giggles. "This is perfect! Now I won't have to worry about you being lonely at the party. Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I didn't want to take away the attention from yourself and the Prefect," Jamil says, dryly, crossing his arms.
Kalim either doesn't notice his tone, or he ignores it.
"Aw, you guys don't have to worry about that! Here, I'll have one of those, and those... that date pastry for Jamil, and... here!"
He takes out a roll of thaumarks thicker than your hand and forces it into your tip jar.
Jamil's eyes widen with panic. "Kalim-"
"I want to make a good first impression!" he says, and then to you: "I can't wait to see you at the party!"
You finish bagging his pastries, shellshocked, and watch him skip out of the coffee shop like a little kid.
Jamil lingers, seemingly unbothered, and yet apologetic all the same.
"Sorry I dragged you into this, he's been begging for a double date all week. I'll tell him you're sick when the party comes around,"
He turns to leave. Your eyes dart between the tip jar, him, the boy outside, him, your coffee-stained hands, and him once more.
"Wait!"
Jamil stops, one hand on the door, and looks over his shoulder.
You try to stop yourself, but the words spill out of your lips anyway. "What time?"
You had never been inside Night Raven College, but the very last thing you were expecting it to be, anyhow, was warm.
You'd dressed in something thick and wooly for the winter weather, and now you're sweating, there's sand stuck under your nails and cool drinks are being passed from hand to hand.
"You're dressed like a penguin," Jamil whispers, holding you by the wrist and pulling you towards a closet, lined with gold and stuffed with coats and shoes from the partygoers.
"I didn't know it'd be hot!"
Jamil closes the door. "I suppose that was an oversight on my part. But I can't have you afflicted with heatstroke- not under my care, at least. Take off the coat,"
You do as he says. You've learned very little about Jamil over the evening, but he seems to know what he's doing.
"Better, but you're drenched in sweat. I'm sure we have dorm uniforms in your size somewhere..."
A loud, raucous noise that you can only assume was a cheer comes from beyond the door. You're not so sure you want to know.
Jamil notices the look on your face. "Too loud?"
"It's a little... much,"
He scoffs, though there's a smile on his lips, now. "That's one way of putting it, I suppose,"
He begins moving coats and shoes, boxes and chests, looking for something to cool you off. You sit on the floor behind him.
"I apologize again. For making you a part of this. I... didn't think you'd actually come," he says, facing away from you.
"I don't mind. I didn't have any plans for the holiday, anyway,"
Jamil makes a noise of acknowledgement, but, no words. You suppose he's trying to figure you out as much as you are him.
"...Ahem. Well, I'm... pleased to have you here. As much as it hurts to admit Kalim was right about one thing, I did need company today,"
"It's no problem,"
"It's some problem," Jamil scoffs, but he's smiling, too. "You'll have a headache for days after this."
"Then it'll be worth it,"
He seems to give up on finding a uniform, or perhaps he's just forgotten about it altogether, and he sits next to you.
You tilt your head to the side, a smile playing at your lips.
"I think Kalim was right about two things, actually,"
Jamil looks at you as if you'd hit your head on something and started speaking in tongues. "And what is that?"
You point up towards the heavens, or, rather, towards the ceiling of the closet, where a mistletoe has been poorly strung up.
"You should enjoy yourself, too,"
Jamil's eyes widen, but before he can ask who put that thing up there?! your kiss is on his cheek and his stoic demeanor is gone.
"Eh- what was that for?"
You could laugh at his expression, but you don't want to rub it in his bewildered face. Rather, you gently nudge his side.
"For being so kind,"
"Kind?" Jamil repeats the word as if he'd never heard it before. "I would hardly call myself that. I'm only... repaying the favor for your kindness."
You smile.
"I guess I'll just have to keep being nice to you, then,"

LADS Love at First Sight (Pt 2)
(a/n: A continuation of the love at first sight request. These are def a little different than the others LOL oh and caleb girlies? you have a stalker now, just fyi)
Sylus
Another week, another horribly fancy party. You didn't know why you had agreed to work at such a thing, but the money was good, and seeing how the wealthy lived was intriguing. This particular party was some type of auction or gala - you didn't quite know the details. You just knew you had to tend the bar and keep the patrons happy. The ballroom was buzzing with people in custom tuxes and luxury gowns. Every conversation you managed to hear was either about a business deal or some new scandal - nothing that managed to hold your attention. Well, one thing did. There was a man who had been sitting at the end of the bar for most of the night. He hadn't ordered anything yet, but he didn't seem to be socializing like the rest of the attendees. In fact, most of the others seemed to avoid him like the plague with fear-ridden expressions. It didn't really make sense to you, but, then again, you didn't know the man. It was just your job to keep everyone's glass full. So, you decided to check up on him - maybe out of duty, maybe out of morbid curiosity. "Can I get you something to drink, sir?" You asked. The man looked up, and you immediately noticed the piercing red color of his eyes. No wonder everyone looked like a deer in headlights when they saw him. "Whiskey, neat," He replied simply. His tone wasn't rude, but it wasn't exactly friendly either. "Double?" You questioned, managing a small smile. "You seem like you need it." You weren't sure, but you thought you noticed a hint of amusement in his expression. "Sure." With a nod, you grabbed a short glass and poured a double shot of your best whiskey into it. The rich had expensive taste, after all. You placed it in front of the man, then leaned against the bar as your gaze travelled over the room. "You don't seem too happy to be here," You pointed out. "An astute observation," The man replied, mirth lacing his tone. "There are many places I'd rather be." "I can't say I blame you," You shrugged. "These people seem a little...well, like they have a stick up their asses." A low, rumbling chuckle rose from his chest. "Most of them do. But that's the business world for you." "I think I'll stick to bartending," You chuckled. "I'm (y/n), by the way." "Sylus," He said, offering a nod. "It's actually quite refreshing to meet someone who doesn't already know me." "Well, it seems everyone who knows you stays about ten feet away at all times." Another chuckle escaped his lips. "With good reason, I suppose." "Mysterious," You hummed, raising your eyebrows. "Well, I served you a drink, so maybe keep me off the hitlist?" His eyes drifted over you, a very subtle smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. "I'll consider it, sweetie."
You may have not been added to his hitlist, but he certainly would be keeping an eye on you. He had a knack for finding diamonds in the rough, and something told him you were quite the valuable gem.
Caleb
It was an average day for the colonel - work seemed to drag on for hours, thanks to his insufferable subordinates. But thankfully, he was on this way home for the night. He just needed to make a quick stop by the convenience store, then he could relax. Once he was inside the corner shop, he began picking out a few items he knew he was running low on. But, when he turned the corner of one of the aisles, someone ran straight into his chest. A bunch of items fell to the floor, and his arms instinctively reached out to steady whoever the person was. "Oh, god, I'm so sorry," You said, hurriedly bending down to pick up the fallen goods. "I wasn't watching where I was going." "No need to apologize," Caleb replied, squatting down to help. "It happens to the best of us." You glanced up, your attention catching on the dark uniform he wore. You recognized the emblem on the jacket, and a deeper sense of guilt tugged at your chest. "Well, it's my luck that I would run into a colonel," You chuckled, a hint of nervousness in your tone. "Luckily, we don't lock people up for that," He joked. "It's not a problem, really." Once you both ensured you have your respective items, you offered a nod and a small wave, then went on your way. But Caleb couldn't move on quite so easily. Something in his gut gnawed at him. A strange urge to go after you. He shook it off, taking his items to the register and focusing on simply going home for the night. The following day, he saw you again. This time waiting at a crosswalk with a cafe cup in hand. He didn't know where you were going, but a morbid curiosity insisted he find out. His feet moved on their own, staying far enough away to remain undetected, but close enough to keep you in his sight. When you disappeared into a bookstore, he simply waited across the street, catching glimpses of you through the window of the shop. What was he doing? This was ridiculous. But as crazy as he felt, he couldn't stop himself. He couldn't stop himself from seeking you out the next day. And the next. And the next. He was curious about you - too curious for his own good. But something about you drew him in. Maybe it was the the look in your eyes when you had run into him, or the adorable nervousness in your voice when you spoke to him. Either way, he was hooked. And he had no intention of changing that.

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR MAN!!!
One year later…..
You've been busy. After much debate and vetoing Jin's suggestions of business names, which all consisted of his name in the title. The seven men finally settled on Crust & Crumbs, a Tannie Farms restaurant and bakery or…..just Crust & Crumbs. It came together a lot quicker than everyone thought. You ended up doing double duty teaching during the day and baking late into the night. You even went in way too early to help prep for the day for your assistant Joshua to take over during school hours. You were absolutely worn out during that time. Yoongi had begged and begged you to quit teaching, but you were too stubborn for your own good, and you refused, thinking that you for sure could handle doing both jobs. Until one night, you and Joshua were working late on a big order of bread. You had passed out. The stress and the exhaustion finally caught up to you. You made Joshua promise that he wouldn't tell Yoongi, and he didn't. He told Jungkook, who in turn told Tae, who told Jimin, who told Joon, who told Jin, who told Hobi and Hobi, ratted you out. They were worse than the old ladies in town.
Yoongi was furious when he found out. When he confronted you, you tried to lie to him, which didn't end well. The two of you just ended up yelling at one another until you finally broke down in tears, admitting that you were tired. That night, he held you as you cried yourself to sleep on his chest. After a serious talk with both Yoongi and Joon, you officially left your teaching position with less than a month left of school. You would be lying if you said you didn't miss your kiddos, but you were happy to be moving on. It was just another new chapter in your life that you were building, and that was a good thing.
In addition to your breads, jams, and cakes that you were ‘known’ for, you have expanded your menu thanks to your grandmother's recipes. Cinnamon rolls, donuts, and now, most recently, pretzels have been added to your menu. Your orders were never ending with baking for the restaurant, grocery stores, and local orders for customers. You stayed busy. Joshua was amazing as an assistant, knowing exactly what he needed to do before you had to tell him. Kook jumped in regularly to help out, and surprisingly, so did Yoongi, but that wasn't a regular thing. Yoongi has since hired an additional bakery assistant Felix, but he was still quite new and learning. However, you couldn't complain. Everything was coming together nicely.
“Last batch,” Joshua says, scraping dough from a large metal mixing bowl onto the metal counter in front of you.
“Good,” you sigh in relief. “Maybe we can get out of here early tonight. Jin just closed and is all set for tomorrow.”
“Sure,” he tells you in a rather unconvincing way.
“It could happen,” you say, as you start kneading the dough.
“Oh, darling dear,” Jin says, walking into the back of the bakery. “We need to leave.”
“What?” You ask. “I'm kind of up to my elbows in dough right now.”
“Yoongi had a small…..accident,” Jin explains, and you swear your heart stops. “He's in the emergency room.”
“Go,” Joshua says, “I'll call Felix. He can help me, and I'll show him how to close up.”
With a quick thank you, you run to your office, grabbing your bag and jacket before you follow Jin out to the parking lot. Jumping in your car, you race to the hospital. You shake your head thinking about all the things that could have gone wrong for him to end up there. Did you get run over by a tractor? Cut a finger off? Oh dear god, what happened?
Jin has his hand in yours as you both scurry down the hallway quickly to Yoongi's Room. Entering, you see everyone else minus Kook there. They look between you and Yooongi as they take a step back for you to enter the room fully.
“I told you not to call her,” Yoongi grumbles, lying halfway up in his hospital bed, holding his shoulder on his arm that is currently in a sling.
“I didn't,” Hobi said, shaking his head. “I called Jin.”
“Um, I think she would notice that something was wrong,” Jimin said, rolling his eyes.
“What happened?” You ask, sitting next to him on the white sheets.
“Nothing serious,” Yoongi says, giving you a quick glance before looking at anything else. “Don't worry about me.”
“He fell,” Tae said, speaking up. “He was up on a ladder trying to grab something, and he fell after a rung on the ladder broke.”
“Tae,” Yoongi says warningly. “I'm fine. It doesn't even hurt. It's just a small bruise.”
“Then why did you swear so loudly after you landed?” Hobi asked, earning himself a glare from your blonde boyfriend.
“His shoulder is dislocated,” Joon says, giving you the information that you needed. “Doctor popped back in. He said it shouldn't require surgery, but he's going to need physical therapy.”
“This is ridiculous. I'm fine,” Yoongi snaps. “Everyone is making a big deal out of nothing. I didn’t even want to come here. I don't need physical therapy.”
You place your hand on his leg, gently rubbing your thumb back and forth, making Yoongi pull away from you a little. If you were stubborn, he was obstinate. You don't take it to heart. You know he is hating all the attention on him. It was then that Kook entered the room with an ice cream sandwich. Looking at him, you notice a few of his fingers were a splint.
“Kook, what happened?” You ask, getting off the bed, approaching him to get a closer look at his fingers.
“I tried catching Yoongi,” he tells you, looking at his hand. “Broke two fingers.”
“You should have seen him try to Superman dive to get to him,” Jimin said with a laugh. “Yoongi landed on him.”
“I got there too early,” Kook said with a shrug and a bite of his ice cream sandwich.
You pat Kooks back, and look back at your boyfriend who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here at the moment. He refuses to look at you. Instead, he stares at some poster on the wall about hand washing and how to properly do it. You won't let him off the hook about this. You're upset that he did not want them calling you, and you won't let him downplay his pain. If you have to be open about your struggles, then so does he, but that conversation will wait for later. Now, you just want to focus on getting him back to his place and getting him comfortable. You just have to get out of this damn hospital first.
“Why does our road have to be so fucking bumpy?” Yoongi groans, as Jin and Hobi help him get into bed.
You watch as he slowly climbs on the bed, with Jin trying to support most of his weight without falling over himself. Yoongi finally lies back against his pillows with a sigh and closes his eyes. You crawl up next to him with a pain pill from the bottle that you stopped at the hospital pharmacy for and some water for him to take. The rest of your friends stood around the room carrying on like normal. Jin and Hobi were fussing over Yoongi, trying to fix his pillows as he tried to swat them away with his good arm. Tae, Jimin, and Kook were messing around and almost knocked over a lamp, causing Joon to hurd them away from anything breakable while trying not to break something himself.
“Can everyone leave? Thank you for everything, but please….please just go,” Yoongi asks loudly, and you don't blame him. He just wanted to relax. You both know that your friends can be….too much sometimes. Everyone turns toward the door, and you attempt to get off the bed to follow them after placing his water and pill down. “Not you.” He says, tugging on your jacket, not allowing you to leave. You have to catch yourself from falling backward onto the bed.
“Sorry,” Jin said, speaking for everyone. “I'll call Y/N tomorrow and check in. Get some rest.” As he ushered everyone out the door with a small wave, Yoongi gave a deep sigh and looked at you.
“You scared me,” you tell him, handing him a pill and water once more. “You don't even want to know what I thought when Jin said you were in the emergency room. This was way worse than my little exhaustion spell.”
“Sorry,” he said, taking the pill and then drinking the water. He shifts on the bed, trying to get comfortable, but he grabs his shoulder, hissing in pain. “This fucking hurts! Stupid old ass ladder. I should have replaced it a long time ago.”
“What do you need me to do?” You ask, taking his water from him and placing it on the nightstand. “Do you want me to get your jeans off? Get you comfortable.”
“I'm not in the mood,” he said pathetically.
“Ha, ha,” you say sarcastically, but he nods his head yes. Helping him take his pants off, you throw them in his dirty clothes basket across the room. “Anything else?”
“Sponge bath,” he jokes.
“Maybe tomorrow,” you joke back, and he gives his fist a little pump of victory.
Laying there, he purses his lips. Leaning over him, you quickly peck his lips, but he whines when you pull away from him. Smiling, you lie down next to him, smoothing his hair off his face. Yoongi slips his hand into yours and looks down at your interlocked fingers with a confused look.
“What's all over you?” He asks.
“Oh, dough,” you say, looking down at yourself. You had hard pieces of dried dough on your hands, flour all over your pants. You looked pretty messy after needing to literally run out of the bakery earlier. “Joshua and Felix are going to finish up tonight. I should go back to my place and shower.”
“You know if you just….moved in here….you wouldn't have to leave all the time,” Yoongi tells you.
“Do you know what you are saying? Has the pill kicked in?” You say laughing a bit awkwardly.
“I know what I'm saying,” he defends himself. “I've been wanting to ask you, but I wasn't sure if you would want to. I mean, your place is just a storage locker at this point. I don't like you over there by yourself.”
“Are you sure?” You ask quietly, and he nods his head, confirming his words. “Okay, yes.”
“Thank god,” he says with a soft smile. “Hobi's taking over your contract with Kook and is going to move in this weekend. If you had said no that would have fucked up our plans.”
“Hobi, huh?” You ask, shaking your head as you get off the bed to head back to your place. “I knew he loved you more.”
“Hey,” Yoongi calls when you get to his doorway, making you turn to look at him. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” you reply softly.
You truly do.
The kitchen was chaotic. Yoongi, in his sling, was sitting at the kitchen table with Joon in front of his laptop, looking at some pie charts. Jungkook and Jin were standing in front of the stove, arguing over something, pointing wooden spoons at each other. Tae, Jimin, and Hobi were doing some sort of little dance to the music coming from someone's phone. Yes, it was chaotic, but you wouldn't have it any other way. Hanging up your bag, you walk to the table, dropping a kiss to Yoongi’s cheek before moving to the stove.
“Try this,” Kook says, shoving some red sauce in your mouth.
“It's good,” you say, swallowing and nodding your head. You can't get another word in before Jin shoves sauce from his pan in your mouth. “That's good too, Jin.”
“But you like mine more, right?” Kook asks, as he goes back, stirring his sauce in the pan.
“I like them both,” you tell him.
“See, she loves us equally,” Jungkook says.
“But she's loved me longer,” Jin quips with a handsome smile.
“That might be true, but she loves me the most,” Yoongi sneaks into the conversation with a kiss on the neck, making you laugh as it tickles your skin.
“Hey,” Jin says, pointing his wooden spoon at Yoongi. “No need to be so smug about it, Min Yoongi now go have a seat, the food is done.”
Yoongi takes your hand, pulling over to the table, directing you to sit next to him. Hobi rushes to take the seat next to you, holding some sort of book in his hands. You look at him questioningly as he hands it to you.
“It's a scrapbook,” he explains, as you take the book from him and open it. “My mom's been really into crafting lately and made this for me.”
“Oh my,” you say, looking at the picture of the two of you as he opened the book and flipped to a couple of pages in. The two little six year olds with missing teeth smiling big for the camera were looking back at you. “That was your birthday party.”
There were so many memories there. Some you had forgotten about, and some remember just like it was yesterday. Summer vacations, ice skating, and school plays, they were all there. You giggle when you come across one with you, Hobi, and Jin helping your grandmother bake. The three of you were a mess, covered in flour as your grandma smiled on.
“It's like you've come full circle,” Yoongi says, placing his hand on your thigh , looking at the picture before you turn the page.
“Oh, shit,” you say, bursting out laughing, making Yoongi groan in displeasure . “Look at your hair. I don't even remember this.”
A young Min Yoongi stood with you and Jin along with some other kids that you recognize. However, you don't see Hobi, nor do you recognize the building that you were all standing in. Looking closer, you try and see what is in the background of the picture.
“The roller skating rink in 8th grade,” Yoongi supplies for you. “I think it was at the end of the school year.”
“Yup, I fell and had to get my knee bandaged,” Hobi says, laughing. “I haven't skated since.”
“I truly don't remember going,” you say, looking at yourself.
“I was going to ask you to skate with me, but I chickened out,” Yoongi says, rubbing your thigh. You look back at the picture, then back at him and to Jin, who was plating everyone's dishes.
“Oh my gosh….I ran into a wall and fell down,” you say as a memory comes back to you. You remember colorful lights in the darkened room as you skated round and round, laughing with Jin right next to you as you fell down. “Jin was laughing at me when I couldn't get back up. You…”
“Skated over and helped you up,” he finished, blushing a little.
You look at him, not knowing what to say. Why couldn't you have noticed that he liked you so long ago? Why did you put yourself through so much heartache? Suddenly, Jin puts a plate in front of you, taking the photos away from you, making both you and Hobi pout.
“Eat now and look later,” Jin scolded, walking away. “I don’t want the food to get cold.”
Yoongi removes his hand from your leg as he starts to eat. You follow his lead, digging into your own plate as everyone falls into conversation. It was comfortable. It was everything you always wanted.
If someone asked you when you were younger what home was, you would have answered that it was your house where you lived with your parents. Home was with your grandmother as she made grape jam on her stove and freshly baked bread. A couple of years ago, you would have said it was the fancy penthouse where you lived with Changkyun. Now, you could say it was listening to Tae trying to convince Yoongi to get cows for the farm. It's Jin and Jungkook bickering over food as they make a mess in your kitchen. It was Joon always being your voice of reason, while Jimin was the little devil on your shoulder, making you get out of your comfort zone. It was Hobi and his never-ending love for you. It was also, more importantly, Yoongi. Yoongi, who showed you that you could give your heart away again even though you were scared. It was sleeping next to him every night feeling safe, loved, and respected. He showed you love didn't have to hurt or be condescending. His love was warm and whole. He was home. He was your home.
“Hey, you okay?” Yoongi asks quietly as he leans into you.
“Yeah,” you say, kissing him quickly. “Perfect.”
“Y/N, tell your boyfriend that Mary would be happy at the farm,” Tae tells you.
“Mary?” Yoongi asks, sounding defeated. “Did you name your non-existent cow?”
“They have to have names,” Tae says seriously, making you smile.
You continue to eat your food. Yoongi leans back in his chair, continuing his debate with Tae. His hand goes to your leg once more, his thumb rubbing circles over your pants. You place your hand on top of his. Threading your fingers through his from above. Yes, this was home.

Summary: While hiding in Bucharest, Bucky met a seller. Surprisingly, the two clicked quickly. However, Hydra's hold on Bucky's mind was still there, and the things he once considered normal clashed with the mundane.

Author's note: I'm not from Romania nor did I ever own a market stand, keep that in mind, please. I did what I could. I KNOW THE TITLE MAKES NO SENSE HERE SHUSH 😭
Those who know me from Quotev I'm not returning to writing, this is a passion project
The actual story:
"Ah, a newcomer. What would you like, good sir?" The market side of Bucharest was bustling more than ever. It wasn't even the tourist season. And so was the little stand with fruit and veggies we found ourselves at. The seller was greeting a man he hadn't seen before in Romanian. Quite a skittish fellow the customer was, however, M/n wasn't the type to choose who he sold his goods to. "Any fruit? Maybe some cabbage for sarmale?"
The customer looked at M/n slightly confused and dazed. "I would like some...uh." The stranger pointed at some of the merchandise. It was clear as day the customer wasn't native with the accent and lesser vocabulary than most, nevertheless, M/n could appreciate him trying. Before the guy could say anymore M/n waved him off with a big smile.
"No shame in using English, my good sir." The toothy grin M/n offered to the customer should have been a good indication that the guy was safe there. M/n's English was similar to the stranger's Romanian; there were some imperfections here and there with a thick accent.
The shame the guy felt was quite visible to the naked eye, however, M/n didn't dwell on it. With a plastic bag in hand, M/n encouraged his customer to pick whatever he desired. "I'd like some of those...thank you." Easy as pie, the bag was filled with the goods the customer desired and ready to be weighed to determine the price.
"Are you on a vacation? Or maybe to see family?" M/n made small talk as he calculated the price. "30 leu (lei??)." The customer handed M/n the money whilst M/n handed him his food.
The hesitation to answer didn't go unnoticed. "I live here." Neither did the awkwardness. It was so thick that M/n could swear he'd drown in it.
Despite that, the smile and excitement on the seller grew wider. "Welcome then! Your Romanian is doing great." M/n gave a big thumbs up toward the stranger who chuckled lightly. "What's your name, my good sir?"
Yet again the stranger hesitated. "Lucas." The name sounded foreign even to the stranger, 'Lucas'. However, M/n wasn't one to judge, he loved making acquaintances and this one seemed worth it. M/n was awed at the name 'Lucas' and told him his in return.
"It was nice to meet you, Lucas. Come buy anytime. I'll give you discounts." 'Lucas' offered a thank you, flashed with an awkward yet genuine smile as he left the stand.
This small interaction went on for over a week, of course with different conversations. Today however was slightly different. "AH! My favorite customer! Lucas!" M/n beamed with happiness as he straightened himself up upon seeing the other man. "We should stop seeing each other just when you buy my stuff." The seller was already packing 'Lucas'' usual order.
'Lucas' smiled as he leaned against the crates and looked over today's offer. "Add some of these in." Happily, without any protests, M/n did what 'Lucas' wished. "You have quite the haul today, M/n." 'Lucas' had to push himself off the crates so he could pay for the stuff.
Meanwhile, M/n puffed out his chest in pride. "Of course I do. The farm is very generous." When the bag was set on the scale M/n gasped as an idea flashed in his mind. "Come to the farm with me today." That surprised 'Lucas' and his shifting body did him no justice in hiding that he was not too fond of the idea. "Come on, Lucas. Please? I won't charge you for this." The bag rustled as M/n shook it slightly to get his offer across.
'Lucas' eyed the bag for a moment before sighing. "Alright. But only for a little." M/n was practically shaking with excitement. In the past week, M/n came to enjoy 'Lucas'' company more than he should. Considering the man a friend even if he was still a stranger in someone's book. He gave him way too many discounts.
M/n enthusiastically motioned 'Lucas' to come over to his side of the counter. "Stay here then! I'll be closing at 13." Without even considering if 'Lucas' had a job M/n patted the man on his shoulder when he came over to the counter and began to plan their day out loud, all while doing his job as a seller. Once the 13-hour mark struck the two men loaded M/n's car and wroomed off to M/n's farm.
M/n had made 'Lucas' help him around the farm. The other man not once complained and actually did more than he had been asked to all the while keeping a steady conversation with M/n. What was surprising was 'Lucas' inhumane strength. 'Lucas' froze once he realized what he had just displayed. His mind going sixty miles per hour thinking of how to dispose of M/n. They stopped, however, once M/n said: "Me next!" jumping around the guy with his arms in the air like he didn't care, whilst keeping a comfortable distance. 'Lucas', who was still slightly shell-shocked, didn't move for a while until M/n's laughter out shouted 'Lucas'' racing mind and he joined in on the laughter. Feeling strangely human.
M/n somehow convinced 'Lucas' to stay overnight. Bribing him with food was the way M/n found efficient in convincing the other man. M/n made enough food for what could be considered a whole family, even though they were alone. Oh how happy he was to see 'Lucas' eating it all. Truth be told despite having a lot of acquaintances, M/n had no friends. So for 'Lucas' to be there with him was something he always wished he could experience. In a way, he too finally felt human again. Like a child, in a good way.
The next morning M/n drove 'Lucas' to his apartment. Since M/n packed more food for the other than necessary, he helped him up. 'Lucas' hesitated if he should let M/n in. However, going by logic, M/n had invited him into his farm and house, plus he gave him a week's worth of food for free, so it would be fair to let the letter in. M/n whistled at the sight of the apartment. Small but surprisingly homey. "Nice home. I like it here."
"It's not as big as your farm." The bags of food had been set down on 'Lucas'' dining table and two made a quick heist at unpacking whilst they conversed.
"Thank God for that." 'Lucas' snorted at M/n's remark. Somehow a single day formed a friendship both would like to keep stable and for as long as possible. They simply just clicked. M/n tapped the table before turning to 'Lucas'. "Alright, I have to go set up the stand. You're free to visit anytime." 'Lucas' nodded and closed the door behind M/n once he was out. The rest of the day was slower even when they met each other again. At the markets. It was slow but not bad. This time around 'Lucas' tried to help bring more customers to M/n's stand. Some of his attempts were more successful than others and a great show for the salesman who played along.
After M/n closed the stand he was invited to 'Lucas'' place for some beer and chill. So, of course, he did. One day of neglect wouldn't kill his farm; he didn't have any animals or kids that were waiting for him at home either. After getting slightly tipsy and 'Lucas' not, it made the other quite pouty. "You had as many as I did. How are you still sober, Lucky?" M/n's Romanian was harder to understand intoxicated than not. 'Lucas' had a hard time comprehending the sentence but he did notice the nickname and how it didn't make much sense. Somehow the sound also reminded him of something, however, he couldn't pinpoint what. "From now on, you're the only one drinking. And you'll be drinking țuică, Lucky" The bottle glistened with the liquor as it landed on the table. M/n had been gifted the bottle by another salesman who was making his own for a living. "Lucky?"
'Lucas' was spacing out when N/m shook a hand in front of him and asked his name again, worried. He didn't reply nor did he even blink. "Hey, Lucas. Are you there?" M/n didn't dare to touch the man also remembering to speak in English for the other's sake. He guessed 'Lucas' was an off-duty soldier seeking some normality here in Romania. And come on, who just rocks a body like his and strength? The seller wasn't stupid enough to try and touch a zoned-out soldier. That's like asking for a deadly kiss. He chose to sit back and wait for a while. Eventually 'Lucas' will wake up. M/n also stopped with the drinks as he wanted to be sober when that happened. To be by his friend's side and aid 'Lucas' if he'd have him.
It took thirty minutes for 'Lucas' to get up and waltz over to his kitchen where he grabbed a notepad. Whilst he wrote something in it M/n stayed quiet. He knew how frustrating it was to lose a thought. Once 'Lucas' closed the book M/n announced himself quietly. "Lucas?" 'Lucas' turned around to look at M/n with a distant look. "Should I leave?" The seller's voice was gentle with a gentle smile on his face.
After a while of silence 'Lucas' woke up completely with a deep inhale and rapid blinking. He looked around before he answered. "No... No, you don't have to. I'd actually welcome the company." 'Lucas' went to sit down on a chair with a huff. "You said I should try this-" Before the guy could even reach for the bottle of țuică M/n beat him to it and took it away.
The seller continued to smile but he looked worried. "Are you sure you want to continue drinking, friend?" M/n wasn't trying to be controlling, his question was genuine. If 'Lucas' will say yes, M/n won't stop him. However, if he said no, no judgment would come. The sigh that came out of 'Lucas' sounded stressful. "Hey, man," M/n scooted closer, "if you want to talk about it, I'll hear you out."
'Lucas', perplexed, shook his head no. Whenever he said something he remembered, man-made pain would follow. He wasn't sure if M/n wouldn't do something. Even if in the back of his mind knew otherwise. "Let me have a taste at least." His back straightened as he reached for the bottle which M/n passed him. The taste was interesting but good. Familiar yet still distant. "Not bad." The bottle slightly clanked on the table. A long silence followed before 'Lucas' spoke again. "Would you stay the night? ...Please."
M/n visibly cheered up at the thought. Of course, he'd stay. He never got to have a sleepover when he was younger so having two in a row was a dream come true. "If you'll have me." 'Lucas' smiled gently before starting a conversation M/n eagerly followed.
M/n slept on the floor since he insisted so much. The night was quiet. Only one person wasn't still asleep and that was 'Lucas'. With a mind in a spiral, he regretted having M/n over. Not because he wouldn't want him there, no. Because every fiber in his body screamed to take a knife. He wasn't sure if his mind suggested M/n's murder or self-defense. Every time M/n shifted 'Lucas'' muscles would contract on instinct. He didn't have this problem when he stayed over at M/n's so why- "Lucky?" 'Lucas' stayed completely still when he heard M/n's voice whisper and shift to sit on the floor. He repeated 'Lucas' name again but louder. When M/n reached out toward 'Lucas' the other man out of reflex grabbed the seller's arm in a firm grip.
M/n looked surprised but not scared as he tried to lull the hyperventilating man in front of him. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you. I... You weren't breathing so I got worried." The whole time 'Lucas' questioned his mind he didn't realize he wasn't breathing. "Cool arm." That cut the tension. 'Lucas' looked at his left hand with which he gripped M/n's hand away from him. His metal arm. 'Lucas' zoned out with his brows furrowed in worry. The seller sat on the floor without trying to pry his arm away.
"You're not frightened?" The tight grip on M/n's arm released. The seller's arm fell slowly to his side as he looked at his friend. Confused and slightly offended at 'Lucas'' question, M/n's nose wrinkled as he snorted. That confused the other. He should have been running and screaming for help, not smiling and brushing things off.
"Of course, I was a little scared," M/n stopped his hand above 'Lucas'' knee, "but mostly for you." then he set it down. The leg underneath M/n's palm twitched. The thought of abuse crashed into his mind. He thought that maybe they didn't treat him well in the army or he got possibly captured on the battlefield; and endured a life's worth of horror. "Are you alright?"
M/n knows that he's not the greatest at assessing a situation. After all, he did try to touch a former soldier in his sleep. Although aware of his friend's situation M/n is oblivious to his actions.
'Lucas' looked back at M/n. "Do you know who I am?" The question sounded bizarre to the seller. Of course, he knew who he was—maybe not deeply as a person, since they had only known each other for two days. Even then, M/n didn't care if 'Lucas' was possibly lying to him.
"You're my friend, Lucas."

'Till You Tell Me To Leave - Theo Nott
heartbroken + yearner!theo, unrequited + unspoken love, lyrics taken from TV Girl - Till You Tell Me To Leave. req are open btw!!
I'm just gonna stay till you tell me to go. Theo knew he was getting himself into something bad. When he first got his slender hands on your curves, he knew nothing else he ever touched would feel as soft and right as your skin felt on his tight grasp. And for the first time, he felt he could rely on someone. Sure, he had friends, but would they ever equate to the feeling of intimacy that can only be achieved when he is inside you? No. The harsh but clear answer was that nothing could compare. But still, Theo's fear to have his feeling unreciprocated and to lose you fully, put him down so much - that when he realized you had been seeing someone else on the side, along with him, his mind froze. Sure, Theo never talked about his feelings to you, but his jealousy towards this new person was overridden by his immediate fear of losing you. So he kept quiet. He wasn't going to let you fade away and "subtly" create distance between you both. He deserved at least a formal goodbye - he knew that much. I only wanna hear what I already know. Was he already aware that you would leave him for this other person? Yes. But Theo was anything but a quitter. A coward for not being able to confess? Yes. That he had to admit to being. But in his defence, as were you. Theo wasn't letting go until you told him to, and you weren't telling him to let go until he got the hint to leave by himself.
But I just wanna hear it said out loud. Leave me alone, god-damn you, get out.
Anything would be better than this limbo he was put into. Why couldn't he just be heart-broken at once, to be able to stop this yearning in his heart that he couldn't ignore. But why can't he leave you by himself? Why?
I'll climb onto your bed, I'll get under the sheets. His hands flatly lay against your back, his muscles relaxed and his nose tucked comfortably against your chest, inhaling the soft scent of your skin and your bed. But for the last weeks, he had been smelling another scent with that. How he hated your new lover. The one Theo had been slowly replaced by as the days went on. Ditching Theo even as he offered your favorite things - getting high with him and watching movies while you both explored eachother's bodies. That's when he knew it was over. Whatever it is you both unofficially had, was now discarded. Thrown to the side after someone else got into your pants.
Just until you look me straight in the eye Point to the door, say good luck and goodbye.
Your silent sighs and sad eyes broke his heart, sure. But it was nothing compared to the pain he would feel if he let go. The pain he would feel if he saw you and this new lover strolling around Hogwarts, being a couple - exactly as Theo wanted to be with you... No, that can't happen. That's his place to take, and no one would get in between Theo and the adoration he feels for you. Nothing. And I'm just gonna stay 'till you tell me a reason. I'm not gonna let you let me down easy. Why? Why would you not let Theo love you? He wanted a relationship. For about the first time in his teenage years, he wanted to care and to love. He won't quit you. He sneaks into your dorm, almost crying as he sees another person's socks thrown around you floor. But nothing else matters. Not when his hands are the ones squeezing your waist. Not when it's his ear you whimper into. Nothing else matters with you around him. Why can't you feel the same? Not until you look me straight in the eyes, Say "he's coming over, I don't want you around." So I'm just gonna sit here and stare at your lips. I won't read it in your face, I won't take any hints.
----
i hate this!! by the way, i do have a happy second part being planned, but this came to me in a dream and i had to write it. I hate how it turned out but it's okay! Yes, i am obsessed with Theo, thank you for asking.

Fuck...
Ok so, I have a heck of a dilemma here, and I apologize if this is the wrong place to vent/seek advice about this, because the only thing specifically poly about this is the fact that there happens to be a polyam relationship involved here.
But anyways, I have these couple I'm friends with who I've recently started dating. Going to call them... L and V. And I have a best friend who I'll call S. Everyone involved I've known for years now.
Niw things have been going absolutely magically with L and V, I have no problems with the relationship. It's something that kinda started out casual, but may actually be headed in a more serious direction bc the longer we date and talk to each other, the more it really seems like we're falling more and more in love with one another. Communication has also been crystal clear and impeccable, probably my only complaint is how far away they live lol.
Now um, the issue however, is my best friend... S.
I went to celebrate the news with her shortly after this all began... and she told me a pretty awful story about some stuff that V did to her. I will spare the details, but essentially this was sexual harassment and bullying, and it had a very profound effect on her...
Now, I would have broken off the relationship then and there... However, the tricky thing about this is it happened when they were like 14. Nearly a decade ago. So long ago that V literally had a different name and pronouns back then.
She is not the same person she was when she did these things, and she hasn't been for years and years.
It seems wildly unfair to her to judge her for this behavior, which is so disconnected from the person I know her as today. Additionally having spoken with L about this, she confirmed that having known about this story, she has kept an eye out through the years the two of them have been dating, and she can corroborate this with her own observations and judgement, which I trust immensely.
Yet at the same time, I can completely understand S's feelings on the matter and why she wouldn't want to forgive her for what happened, it would also be unfair to her to dismiss these feelings when they clearly hold have had such a profound effect on her.
(Like, I was real piece of shit too when I was 14... I would feel so distraught to have that brought back up against me now as a different person, but ar the same time I would understand why someone I hurt back then wouldn't want to speak to me.)
Now, at first it seemed like it may be possible to thread the needle here.
I talked this out with each of them, and I established some formal rules and boundaries to keep V away from S, and make sure my relationship here doesn't bring them into contact with each other. V even quite graciously volunteered unprompted to step away completely from all of our mutual friends.
And for a time S seemed satisfied with this, it seemed like we could move forward.
But now that some more time has passed she's come to me again, and appears to be changing her mind. She seems upset with me for having continued with this relationship, and is now stating that she doesn't think she can continue to be friends with someone in a relationship with L or V.
And, frankly I just feel exhausted about this whole situation at this point.
I've skipped over a good amount here but I've been thinking about and discussing this for weeks now and just, fuck....
I really don't want to have to choose between these relationships...
S and I have been best friends for years now, and my relationship with her is one of the most precious in my life. I love her immensely.
Meanwhile what's been happening with L and V has felt like a dream come true, I've also been friends with them for years, and I feel so happy with them, and I also love them quite dearly. It feels like exactly the sort of thing I've needed in my life for a while now and I just, I feel, almost angry that events have transpired such that this joy is being ripped away from me,,, (even though I that this not the crux of the issue).
I feel like if it really comes down to it, I need to pick S, because then I at least get to keep L and V as friends. But honestly it just feels like such an impossible situation. Even if I did that I don't know how I can just, put away my feelings for them like that all of a sudden...
To complicate matters even further, some additional points I didn't really know how to fit in:
- S has also been experiencing a pretty severe mental health crisis at the moment, unrelated to the present issue. Her emotions and intensity towards these issues seems to vacillate quite dramatically day to day, which makes engaging with this make me feel nervous and unpredictable.
- L and S are also exes, though this relationship was brief and it happened years ago. It ended on terms which I would describe as neither amicable nor acrimonious, with neither party really at fault.
- V does not dispute that this happened, but does have what seem like very plausible objections to some of the details in S's account.
- I have also been in a bit of a bit of a mental health episode with some of my own issues, as I write this I'm going through a couple different med withdrawals because I lost track of my prescriptions, had a bout of substance abuse the other day (which is unusual for me), and generally just kinda feel like shit, I am not just emotionally exhausted because of this, but from my own issues, and actual physical exhaustion. I feel nervous to engage at the present moment, because I'm not in a great headspace but S also clearly seems to want to talk and I've already been deferring that conversation, I don't want her to feel like I'm ignoring her.
I just feel so fucking lost... I don't want to lose anyone... and my plate is already so full with my own neuroses and fuckups, I just feel... Numb.
Yeah, that's A Lot. I'm sorry all this is weighing on you, and being overwhelmed is absolutely the normal response. 🫂
I'm gonna keep it real with you, man, I'm not able to tell you what to do here. What I will do, though, is raise some points I think you should consider moving forward. I hope it helps you sort through everything.
Can you handle this right now? Frankly, it sounds like maybe the answer is "no". If so, are you able to take a step back? Can you go a stretch of time without talking to either "side" while you get your bearings and stabilize yourself? Do you have a therapist or very strong support system outside of S, L, and V? If not, you need to get that set up yesterday
Will whatever you choose be permanent? Since you think S is more sensitive to this than usual, is it possible to step back from one side or the other for a while while S stabilizes? (Also how long will that take and can you handle it?) Then look at reintroducing or ramping back up whichever the other one was when S is better equipped to deal with that?
Can you talk to S openly? Can she help you understand why its so hard on her even with the limits you've already put in place? Have you explained that while you understand S was seriously hurt she has no mandate to get over that, it also feels incredibly unfair for you, a party who was not involved, to hold something a decade old over the head of someone else, and that it feels unfair you're being forced to choose sides in that? If you can't now, will you ever?
Spinning off of that, how will it impact your friendship with S that she put you in this situation? Especially if you're not able to talk it through with her about how shitty if feels for you. As much I consider myself a gracious person, I personally would absolutely hold a grudge against that friend forever despite my best efforts. You said you felt you'd "have" to choose S if it actually came down to it, but would that even save the friendship with S? I'd hate for you to choose that and then have your own resentment spoil the friendship anyway, but maybe you're a much stronger person than I am in that regard.
How you feel about sneaking? Don't get me wrong, this is no one's first choice, and this is not necessarily a recommendation. Could you pull it off to keep L and V your dirty little secret? Do you want to? Would they? Can what S doesn't know hurt her?
What are the odds S is okay (and stays okay) with you staying friends with L and V? Has S said explicitly that was okay, or does she expect you to cut off contact when/if you stop dating them? If she is okay with you staying friends, can she explain what that difference is and why it matters to her? Might her feelings on that change like her feelings on you dating them (or something akin to dating them) did? What do you do then?
How are V and L doing with all this? How understanding will they be to your choices?
Will your choice, whatever that may be, set a precedent? Do you like the precedent it sets? Are you prepared to deal with future issues under the precedent you'd be setting now?
Lastly. There is a lot of potential progress that could be made by S talking directly to V and clearing the air. It sounds like V would be willing to apologize for a lot of stuff, and maybe closure could be had. But it also has the potential to go very bad, and fast. With S being less than stable, it might not even be something you want to float by her. But I have rarely seen things get 100% resolved without that, anecdotally, so if its not an option, be prepared to buckle down for the long haul. If that is an option, consider a moderator, and make sure that moderator is someone other than you or L.
Okay. Breath time. That's a lot, so take a sec here to regroup. Do something to reset. Get a drink 🧃 or wash your face🧑🚿 or image search "hamsters in hats"🐹👒. Like for real. The rest of this answer will still be here when you get back.
Once you're refreshed... I do have a little bit of actual advice. Its not the core problem, but in my experience, these will be integral to preventing additional spiraling. I'm tired of the bullet format, so I'm going to try each point in its own font. If that doesn't work with your eyes, maybe copy/paste into a notepad or notes app and it should make it all the default font.
Do not talk shit on S with V&L and vice versa. Find a neutral third party to vent to. If all your friends are involved, get a new one or a therapist. Do not vent to one about the other. When you have to tell them about something, prep them that you will be doing so, keep your tone neutral, and own your decisions. For example, you will NOT say "S is making me break up with you" to L or V. You MAY say "Its very hard on S for me to be seeing you right now, so I am considering taking a step back from both of you."
Try not to let shit fester. That is very difficult when you've got to balance another's precarious mental health (ask me how I know. Actually, please don't). But if you're fucked up by something, you have a right to respectfully discuss it with the relevant person. If you're going to be mad or hurt, it will make things worse long term if you never say something. That shit earns compound interest (please don't ask me how I know) so you gotta make sure you pay it off quick. If you consider something a sacrifice, the other person should know, and they should show you some amount of gratitude for making that sacrifice. Watch yourself if you're the type to lose your temper that it doesn't slide into berating, guilt-tripping, etc. But you can and should talk about how its affecting you.
Let people know ahead of time, when you can, what things are likely from you in what situations. "I may have a few days of radio silence if I get overwhelmed," for example. This applies not just to L, V, and S, but your other friends as well.
The End
Those are the big points. There are always a lot of things to juggle when its messy like this, so you'll have to forgive me if I overlooked something. You'll also of course have to use your own judgement. In addition to my normal "see your therapist" reminder, I feel the need to add in this case: you don't have to be suicidal to utilize your crisis line of choice📞. You can call just for emotional crisis, or if you're considering using, or if someone ELSE is in an emotional crisis and you don't know how tf to deal with it. I'm not gonna plug any particular hotline here, because its very easily googlable, but I recommend choosing one to have saved in your phone, even if you're sure you'll never use it.
And with that out of the way, let me once again offer you my condolences. Its a shitty place to find yourself, and resolving the situation will also probably be stressful. But that doesn't mean its eternal. It will be over with eventually, one way or another, and you will stand on the other side. So deep breath. Godspeed and Good Luck. 🫂🍀

anything but - jeonghan
summary: roommate!jeonghan. you thought living with your best friend, jeonghan, would be easy. fun. like a sleepover every night. but as he watches you struggle week in and week out with crushes that don't like you back or dates that never seem to go well, he decides to take matters into his own hands.

jeonghan is ready to go to sleep. he had a long day, followed by a good, but tiring, night with friends, and he's been thinking about his soft sheets for the past two hours now. he's also been thinking about you, thinking about how happy he gets seeing your face light up when he walks through the door, but he knows he won't see that tonight. you're going on a date, dinner with some loser who's not him. he knows he could treat you so much better, but he can't just say that. things would get weird, and jeonghan can't afford the rent on his own. so selfishly, he keeps you and his feelings at arm's length. he's still thinking about you as he puts his key in the lock, wondering if he can stay up late enough to make sure you get home safe. when he opens the door, he changes his mind.
"what are you doing here?" jeonghan asks with a bit of anger in his voice, finding you laid out on the couch scrolling through your phone. "you told me you were going on a date tonight. did you cancel on him?"
"nope," you reply, popping the p as you sit up to stare at your roommate. "he cancelled on me. ten minutes before he was supposed to pick me up, actually, so i got ready for nothing."
that's when jeonghan notices the nice clothes you have on, your hair done up but mussed now that you've been laying on it. and, with a pang in his chest, he notices your makeup that looks smudged with tears. he knows you've been having dating trouble lately, and it's definitely been getting to you. but it makes his heart ache to think that you've been home all night crying over some loser who couldn't even bother to take you out.
"why didn't you call me?" he asks softly, joining you on the couch as he lifts your legs to lay them over his lap. he keeps a comforting hand on your calf as you explain, a slight tremor in your bottom lip as you say, "i didn't want to interrupt boy's night."
"baby, come on," he sighs. "you should have told me. you could've come to boy's night!"
"right," you scoff, rolling your eyes. "and hear all of them talk about their beautiful girlfriends and being so happy in a relationship? i'd rather eat drywall."
"we talk about other stuff," jeonghan laughs. "i told them about you getting us tickets to that soccer game and now i think they like you better than me. mingyu might be calling to see if he can take my ticket."
"never," you smile at him, sitting up and swinging your legs from his lap. "well, it's late. you're probably tired."
"eh," jeonghan shrugs, looking over you carefully to gauge if you're upset. "i could stay up a little longer, if you wanted to watch something."
"we're caught up on all our shows though," you pout. jeonghan sees an idea cross your face, so he asks, "what are you thinking?"
"nothing," you shake your head. "i remembered i didn't watch project runway last week, but you don't like that show-"
"put it on," he nods to the tv, looking over you one more time and noticing your clothes must not be that comfortable. "or you go change, i'll set it up."
"you don't know what episode i'm on though," you squint at him, and he shakes his head.
"nope, you're two weeks behind," he says. "i remember, because we went out the week before and you were ticked off that you were missing it."
"you pay too much attention to me," you mumble as you finally get up from the couch, jeonghan barely hearing you as he checks you out from behind. you're right, he does. too bad you haven't realized why.
when you come back from your room, you're wearing a hoodie that's seen better days and shorts that aren't quite doing their job. jeonghan clears his throat, trying not to stare, but when you sit down and put your legs back over his lap he can't help but skirt his hand over your skin, getting too close to your thigh without realizing.
"that tickles," you giggle, pushing his hand away. "you're annoying."
"ha, sorry," he laughs nervously, not sure what to do with his hands now so he reaches for the remote to press play. not far into the episode you curl up on your side of the couch, your knees tucked up beneath you as you lay down. jeonghan keeps an eye on you the whole time, attune to all your reactions and movements. he notices when you shiver, up in an instant to get a blanket.
"where are you going?" you call out, and he comes back wordlessly with the comforter from his room. he wraps it over you, using the rest of it to cover himself as he gets comfortable again. you find yourself dozing off, waking up every few minutes to see the progress on your favorite designers. you sleep through a whole section of the show, whining that you need to rewind, but jeonghan quietly explains what's happened and you're satisfied enough.
"do you want me to turn this off?" jeonghan asks after he sees your eyes closed again after you just complained about missing part of the show. you shake your head, not much of it visible outside of his blanket. you're noticing how nice his blanket smells, recognizing it as the same fresh scent that follows jeonghan around. it makes you feel at home, and that's part of what's making you so sleepy.
"i don't wanna go to my room," you admit shyly, feeling the tears from earlier just a moment or two away. "i'll stay awake, promise."
"do you want to sleep out here?" jeonghan asks, and you think about it for a moment. it wouldn't be the first time you had a little sleepover of sorts, both of you squished awkwardly on the couch or sleeping far apart from each other on someone's mattress that's been dragged out from one of your rooms. your silence decides it for jeonghan, and he says, "i'll go change, and then we can go to sleep." all you do is nod, getting comfortable beneath his comforter again as jeonghan slinks back to his bedroom to get ready for bed.
he comes back out and laughs to himself, your messy hair and scrunched sleepy face pulling at his heart. he knows someday he should tell you how he feels. he knows what you're looking for, and he knows he's perfect for you. it's just a matter of time before you figure that out, too.
-
a few days later, jeonghan was in the middle of a nap when he heard mumbling in the hallway and the sound of someone slamming doors. he was worried for only a few minutes, thinking it could possibly be an intruder, but as the mumbling gets closer to his door he knows there's a very frustrated y/n on the other side. he groans as he hoists himself up, shuffling to the door so he can peek out at you putting laundry away in the most irritated way possible. it's like you're trying to punish the towels for existing, and jeonghan can't help but laugh at the annoyed look on your face. it's cute, he finds himself thinking, but his chuckle pulls you from your dark thoughts and brings your anger to a new victim.
"what."
"nothing," jeonghan says defensively. "i thought someone was breaking in, you know, with all the banging around."
"shut up," you mumble, shoving the washcloths into the hall closet before slamming the door. you turn to your best friend and roommate, finger pointed accusingly, "i'm in a bad mood so don't piss me off."
"that explains the stress cleaning," he notes, and you ignore him.
"i'm going downstairs to put the dishes away," you grumble as you pass by him to get to the stairs, and he puts a timid hand on your shoulder.
"maybe do something that involves less breakables," he says coolly. "go punch a pillow or something."
"that's a good idea," you say, face lighting up slightly, and he laughs nervously as he finally asks what's wrong. "you remember that bitch of a dude who i was talking to a couple weeks ago?"
"gar bear?" jeonghan asks, and you roll your eyes.
"gary, yeah."
"what about him?" he asks, watching you unlock your phone and scroll to find something. you shove it into his hands, open to a very disturbing picture of a very ugly dick. "no."
"yeah. at three pm on a fucking thursday."
"stop making me look at it," he whines, pushing your phone back to you. "that's what made you mad?"
"yes!" you shout. "how did that thought process work? oh, this girl who i led on and then gaslit and then weirded out, she really needs to see my dick right now. it's the middle of the day! get a job! contribute to society!!!"
"why's he posing like that?" jeonghan asks, noticing more about the photo since you haven't locked your phone yet. "he looks so stiff."
"please stop," you say, but jeonghan sees a smile pulling at your lips.
"so what did you do?"
"i said 'what is your problem' and then i blocked him," you shrug, and he laughs.
"remind me to never piss you off," he says as he wraps an arm around you. "i'm sorry guys are assholes."
"i think i'm gonna become a nun," you mumble into his shoulder, staying in his hold maybe a minute too long. he presses a quick kiss to the crown of your head before letting you go, a blush on your cheeks that he takes pride in.
"you'd suck at being a nun, you're not nice enough," he jokes, and the way you glare at him makes him smile. "plus you fuck too much, aren't they supposed to be celibate?"
"forget punching pillows, i'm gonna punch you."
"sure baby," he chuckles, looking back at you as he walks downstairs. "you want food or something? i'll do the dishes. you just focus on not burning down the patriarchy."
"no promises," you mumble as you follow behind him. "but yeah, i wanna try this recipe i found the other day..."
it's over dinner that night that you realize how perfect jeonghan is. if only you could find a guy just like your best friend. someone who supports you, makes you smile, know how to get your heart to skip a beat. take, for example, his compliments. you like to joke to jeonghan that you need validation on your cooking, like tinkerbell, so whenever you cook for him the praises are nonstop. he's nothing if not supportive, so he tries to find things to comment on that he knows will make you blush. it works, and you do your best to tell him to stop without making it obvious that your heart is doing somersaults at his words.
this is what you want from a relationship, you find yourself thinking. you want to be comfortable with them, feel supported, all the things that jeonghan gives you. that night, you scroll through your dating apps, looking for a guy you think could meet those standards. in reality, you spend the whole night comparing the men on your screen to your roommate, subconsciously thinking of all the things you like most about jeonghan that these losers don't possess. you fall asleep like that, phone open to an empty chat, with jeonghan still on your mind.
-
so, a downside to living with jeonghan is you get the brunt end of all his weird energy. sometimes it's fun, and manifests itself in silly ways. like when you go thrifting, he takes it upon himself to find the weirdest thing in the store and insists on bringing it home. it means your apartment is decorated uniquely, but some of the stranger things you make him keep in his room. you haven't figured out yet that he only does this to make you laugh, loving how you smile sweetly at all the funny trinkets littered around your house. anything that goes into his room is eventually donated back to goodwill, its purpose served, doomed to delight another unassuming shopper some day.
other times, his weird energy comes out in worse ways. like today, he's not home, but you can feel that something's wrong. you know jeonghan is helping his friends with some video shoot, and he won't be home until much later. but there's a vibe in your apartment when you walk in. something is off, and it doesn't take you long to realize it. jeonghan has moved everything around, the couch where your kitchen table should be, the chairs from the table lined up in place of your couch. he's a strange one, your best friend, but it makes you laugh nonetheless, sending him a picture of the chairs and asking, "how am i supposed to fall asleep watching tv on this?!"
jeonghan smiles when he gets your text, shooting back, "watch tv in your room if you know you're just gonna fall asleep!"
really, he did the switcharoo for you to let your guard down. yes, moving furniture around is something silly that he would do, but he hid something further in the house that he wants you to find. he's hoping he'll be home when you do, but just the mere thought of your reaction has him chuckling. he goes back to whatever vernon wanted him to do, curious at each buzz from his phone, wondering if it's you.
jeonghan got the best of you, like usual. you did just go to your room, putting on one of your comfort shows so you could relax after a boring shift at work. you only get up to make a quick meal, dozing off again with the empty plate beside you. when the tv wakes you up you figure it's just time for you to go to bed, so you shuffle to the kitchen and notice a light coming from under jeonghan's door. he must have come home while you were napping, but it's late, so you go about your business. you drop your things off in the kitchen, returning upstairs to grab a washcloth and towel from the closet before you lock yourself in the bathroom. jeonghan is listening intently as you move around, waiting for the sound of the shower curtain pulling back and-
"JEONGHAN?!"
with sock clad feet that send him crashing through the now open bathroom door, he greets you with a shit eating grin. "you rang?"
"what the FUCK is that doing in here," you bellow, pointing at the plastic skeleton jeonghan found at the party store earlier that day. he thought it would be funny to hide in the apartment, at first just thinking about propping it up in the kitchen like the dead guy was making a meal, but the idea of scaring you a little was too good for him to pass up.
"man, when was the last time you cleaned your bathroom?" jeonghan jokes, "he must've been in here a while."
"fuck you," you spit, heart still racing from the surprise. that's when jeonghan notices something: you're naked. well, not entirely. like, you definitely don't have clothes on, his eyes flicking down to see your discarded panties and sleep shirt on the floor. he can't see the goods though because you're dangerously holding a towel over your body, one edge of it slipping as you reach out to try and punch jeonghan.
"what, you don't like him?" jeonghan pouts, stepping out of the bathroom to protect himself. "i thought you said you wanted to start decorating for halloween."
"this is not what i meant and you know it, you jackass," you try to say meanly, but jeonghan finds it cute. "it scared the shit out of me."
"i'm sorry," he says finally, hands twitching to reach out and grab you by the waist so he can rub comforting circles on your skin. but he can't. he physically shakes his hands out, a thing he does often enough to reset his mind that you look at him quizzically.
"why'd you do that?" you ask, and he clasps his hands behind his back defensively.
"felt like it," he shrugs. you roll your eyes and reach for the door, grumbling more expletives at him as you try to shut it in his face. "um, y/n?"
"what."
"you gonna shower with him?" jeonghan asks, pointing to your new friend. "i gotta admit, i'm a little jealous-"
"oh my god," you groan, grabbing the skeleton and throwing it at jeonghan with a comical clangor of plastic bones. "i hate you."
"love you too baby," jeonghan laughs as he closes the door for you, hefting the skeleton over his shoulder to go hide him in another corner of the house.
-
a few days later (jeonghan has hid the skeleton twice now), you come home from a date, dopey smile still on your face. you gasp when you see a body on the couch, thinking it's that stupid skeleton again. you breathe a sigh of relief when you realize it's a snoozing jeonghan instead. he looks angelic, his soft features shining brightly even in the dark room, illuminated by the tv. you don't realize that you're staring, nor do you realize jeonghan is peeking at you, the sound of the door waking him up.
"hey," he calls quietly, startling you. "sorry. i can go back to sleep and you can keep staring."
"i wasn't staring," you say defensively.
"sure," jeonghan nods, checking you out. "you look nice."
"who's staring now?" you ask as you cross to the kitchen. "i went out to dinner, but the portions were too small. do you want something to eat?"
"no, i'm good!" jeonghan calls. "was it a fancy place?"
"what?" you ask, coming back into the living room with a bag of chips. "i couldn't hear you."
"where you ate," he clarifies. "you dressed up, the servings were small, must have been a fancy place this guy took you to."
"how'd you know i was on a date?" you pout.
"y/n, i know you better than anyone else," jeonghan chuckles. "it was obvious. how'd it go?"
"good," you nod, ears burning under jeonghan's close attention. "don't wanna jinx it though."
"ok," jeonghan nods. "well i'm glad it was a good date. you deserve one of those."
"how was your night?" you ask. jeonghan shifts on the couch so there's room for you to sit and join him. once you're settled he explains how his friend seungcheol had come over for drinks, but he left a little while ago.
"i think he's got a girlfriend and doesn't want to tell me," jeonghan says, "because he feels bad that i'm not seeing anybody."
"you want me to find you a lady?" you tease. "you know my friends love you, i'm sure it'd be easy.''
"no," he shakes his head so some of his hair falls in his eyes. it makes it easier for him to stare at you without you noticing. "i'm good."
"well, it's a standing offer," you say as you get up to return the chips to the pantry. when you walk back through the living room, you ask, "where's jack tonight? i'm about to shower, i don't want another heart attack."
"i put the skeleton in your bed," jeonghan smiles with an impish glint in his eyes. "i figured it would be a nice surprise for the poor sap you might have brought home."
"you're annoying."
"thanks!" jeonghan chirps, and you laugh before telling him goodnight. he watches you go, smiling at something on your phone. jeonghan feels a pang in his chest ever so slightly, but he shakes it off, turning the tv off before he goes back to sleep trying not to think about you.
-
the following week, you're acting off. jeonghan notices immediately, but he doesn't bring it up to you at first. he's not sure if maybe work is stressing you, or maybe you've got family stuff going on...whatever it is, he'll give it a day or two before he checks on you, knowing how you like having time to yourself before someone swoops in to help.
the reality is, you really like this guy you've been talking to. that first date was amazing, and you wanted to go out with him again as soon as possible. you talk all the time, always ducking into your room when he calls while you're around jeonghan. you're actually ignoring jeonghan a lot, which you feel bad about, but you just can't get enough of this new guy. even though you're talking a lot, it's hard to set up another date with him because you're both busy with work. you've got plans to hang out on sunday, and for the first time in a long time, you're excited for a date. not nervous, not dreading it, just pure schoolgirl crush excitement.
that's why it's so crushing when, a few hours before, the guy texts you and cancels. you play it off at first, asking when he's free to reschedule, but his response is basically telling you to get lost. it hurts your feelings more than it should, because he is just some loser dude, but you also didn't know him that long. you have no reason to be so devastated over this, but you are.
jeonghan knew about your second date with this guy, so he made plans to be out of the house for as long as possible on sunday. as selfish as it was, he didn't want to be there for the giddy getting ready (you always ask him for outfit advice and he always tells you that you look great) or for the nervous pacing while you waited for the guy to pick you up (jeonghan always distracts you with jokes to calm your nerves). he also didn't want to be there after the date, if you happened to bring the lucky guy home. so he's out running errands, bothering his friends, and killing time until he's sure he won't walk in on anything he doesn't want to see.
when jeonghan gets home, it's late. after his day of farting around he went to his friend wonwoo's apartment for a while to heckle him while he played video games, and wonwoo finally kicked him out.
"don't you need to go home to your girlfriend?" wonwoo had teased, and jeonghan kicked him from his spot on the couch.
"y/n's my best friend and my roommate."
"so basically your girlfriend," wonwoo smiles that little smile of his, and it annoys jeonghan.
"she doesn't think of it like that," jeonghan mumbles, looking for his phone so he can head home anyway.
"because you're being too subtle."
"i'm not trying to be anything!" jeonghan says defensively. "i don't want her to know."
"why not?" wonwoo asks, finally turning to look at his friend. "you afraid she'll say no? because we all think-"
"i'll see you later, ok?" jeonghan says quickly, his shoes barely on as he tries to unlock the door. "hope cheol doesn't kill you again."
"in his dreams," wonwoo mumbles, his attention effectively back on the game and off of jeonghan.
jeonghan comes home to a mostly dark apartment, the stove light in the kitchen the only indication that you got home before him. he stops at the door to make sure there's no...unpleasant sounds coming from elsewhere, and when he's met with silence he kicks his shoes off carefully before heading to his room. he's exhausted, hiding from you all day being a good way to wear a person out. when he passes by your room something catches his ear, and his heart stops. were you moaning?
jeonghan knows he shouldn't, but he presses his ear against your door, telling himself he's only doing this so he can decide if he needs to stay somewhere else tonight. he's waiting to hear another voice, a man's voice, but he's met with a quiet whimper, followed by some sniffles. his heart roars back to life hearing that, almost breaking to pieces when he realizes you're not moaning, you're in your room crying. he's opening the door before he knows what he's doing, and you jump out of your skin at the unwelcome intrusion.
"go away," you whisper. jeonghan ignores you, coming to your bedside and looking down at you with concern in his eyes. "jeonghan, please. go away-"
"why are you crying?" he asks, and you don't say anything. "what did that asshole do?"
"nothing," you sniff again, willing your tears to stay back as you try to appease your roommate long enough for him to decide you're fine and leave you alone. "h-he was bu-busy and had to cancel-"
"fuck him."
"yeah, whatever," you say shakily. "it doesn't matter. i'm fine. now leave. please." your eyes are closed, trying to hide the tears that are welling up, and jeonghan is so quiet you assume he left, but he's trying not to let his own emotions show as he calls your name.
"y/n," jeonghan whispers, and when you look up at him you can't help it. you start crying again seeing him so upset over you being so upset, and before long you're back to bawling your eyes out. you barely register jeonghan cooing softly at you, climbing into bed and scooping you up into his arms. his lips are pressing soft kisses up and down your hairline, and it makes you cry even more. this is what you want, you think. this is what you need, what you've been missing. you want a boyfriend that will care for you like jeonghan does, that will be there for you like jeonghan is. it physically hurts you to think that you may never have that, that there's a possibility you'll never feel that kind of romantic love from someone. and you want to say that, you want to tell jeonghan why he came home to you pathetically crying so much, but he doesn't care. he just wants you to stop, so he'll hold you in his arms whispering sweet jokes to you until there's no more tears. he gets the slightest smile out of you right before you doze off, hands bunched into his shirt holding on for dear life. jeonghan holds you tighter, pressing one last kiss to the tip of your snotty nose before he drifts off to sleep with you.
-
you wake up later, not quite in the morning, but a few hours have passed. you're not used to sharing a bed with someone, especially when that person has such a vice grip on you as jeonghan does. once your mind has registered that you're awake, you also feel the burn of someone's eyes on you. sure enough, when you peek into the darkness of your room you see jeonghan staring back, eyebrows creased and teeth nibbling his bottom lip.
"stop chewing your lip," you tell him, reaching out to tug it from between his teeth. "i'm fine. you don't need to worry about me."
"wrong," he replies, watching you intensely as he brushes a strand of hair behind your ear. the quiet that follows has your face heating up, and the heat spreads through the rest of your body. it feels like every point where jeonghan's body is pressed against yours is on fire, and you want to pull away. but you don't.
"why aren't you in your room."
"because i wanted to sleep here," he replies. "i hope that's ok."
"it's not-"
"bummer," jeonghan cuts you off. "i'm not leaving."
"i'm not crying anymore though," you point out. "so. i'm fine."
"nope," he shakes his head. his bangs fall back into his eyes, and you think briefly he must need a haircut, but you hope he doesn't get one. the long hair suits him, even if it keeps him from seeing sometimes. you don't think about it, your hand unclenching his shirt and instead reaching up to brush his hair out of his face. jeonghan watches you carefully, and your breath gets caught in your throat when you look back down to his eyes. he's staring at you so intensely you can feel it in your chest, and that's when it hits you: jeonghan. you want a boyfriend like jeonghan. well! jeonghan's right here! what are you gonna do about it?
"jeonghan, i..." you trail off, staring at him like you're seeing him in a new light. he waits patiently for you to go on, thinking you might explain the situation a little more, but you don't know what to say. you just get hit with the intense need to bury your face in his chest, breathing in his scent and listening to his heartbeat as you fall back asleep.
"what?" he asks, trying to encourage you to keep speaking.
"um, can i just-" you try, but instead of speaking you just nuzzle into his chest, nose at the base of his neck tickling his skin. "i want to go back to sleep."
"then sleep baby," he whispers as he squeezes you tighter, afraid to let go. as you fall asleep, you let your hands relax against his chest, one of them laid right over his racing heart.
-
the next morning, you wake up to an empty bed and almost convince yourself you dreamed up jeonghan last night. like an oasis in the desert, he came to you when you needed him most. a little part of you wishes it wasn't real so you could go back to a time where you didn't know your true feelings for jeonghan, but your mussed sheets proves it wasn't a dream. jeonghan's scent is still lingering on your extra pillow, and you take a deep breath and remember how it felt to be wrapped up in your best friend.
jeonghan comes back into your room with two coffees in hand and he sees you nuzzling your face into the spot where his head laid just minutes ago. he lets you wallow for a moment before he calls your name softly. you jump up, cheeks warming as you look at jeonghan in your doorway.
"morning," he smiles. he hands you your coffee, your cold hands brushing his and sparking warmth across his skin. he stops himself from leaning down to kiss your forehead, knowing that whatever intimacy you shared last night is probably left in the past. you were sad, and jeonghan was there to comfort you. he'd happily do that a million times over, but he doesn't think you feel the same way he does.
"jeonghan, i'm sorry about last night," you try to apologize, but he shakes his head.
"don't," he stops you. "i would do it again if you needed it."
"well if you find me crying over some loser again tonight you have full permission to slap me," you tell him. "one night was enough."
"noted," he laughs, awkwardly standing in your room, unsure if he can get back into bed with you. you pick up on the way his eyes keep flitting from you to his spot, and you pat the empty space so he'll sit down.
"stop being weird," you say, bumping shoulders with him once he's comfortably next to you again. "so how'd you sleep?"
"pretty good," he starts out, "but there was this really annyoing sound coming from your side of the bed?"
"oh you mean me crying?"
"no, like this really loud, obnoxious snoring, kinda like-" jeonghan starts demonstrating, sending you into a fit of giggles and a pushing match to get him to stop.
"i think that was you!" you shriek, carefully trying not to spill your coffee. "don't spill that in my bed, i'll kill you."
"and then who are you gonna cuddle at night?" jeonghan asks, regretting it when he feels the tension between you both.
"i could always cuddle with jack," you joke to break the awkwardness, and jeonghan rolls his eyes.
"i hate that you named the skeleton."
"the skeleton is a guest in our home," you tease him. "show him some respect."
"whatever, freak," he says before downing the rest of his coffee. he gets an idea then, turning to you to ask, "what are you doing today?"
"um, nothing except work," you reply. "but you know my job is barely real so i'm basically doing nothing."
"let's go get coffee," jeonghan says, a playful look in his eyes.
"we just had coffee," you point out.
"no, no, we'll get good coffee, you can do some work, i'll watch you do some work, it'll be great," he insists, getting up and pulling you out of bed with him.
"if you're still trying to cheer me up i swear i'm fine," you say through your laughter, pressing back against jeonghan trying to push you toward your closet. "you don't need to take me for coffee or do anything else to make me feel better. i'm fine now."
"glad to hear it," he smiles softly, squeezing your hand that's clasped firmly in his. "but i still want to get coffee, so get dressed or everyone at the cafe will see you in that god forsaken t shirt."
the t shirt in question is one that jeonghan found for you during one of your goodwill visits. for whatever reason, it says 'i shaved my balls for this' and it got the biggest laugh from you all night, so jeonghan had to bring it home. despite being awful colors (light blue paired with neon yellow) it's actually quite comfortable, and you love the way it makes jeonghan laugh every time you wear it. it's unironically become your favorite sleep shirt, but you are mortified at the thought of anyone aside from your best friend seeing you in it. you quickly change, grabbing your work laptop from your desk before you head into the living room to find jeonghan waiting for you.
it's not unusual for him to take you out on random adventures, but this one feels different. he stays closer to you than normal, insists on buying your drink, and you catch him actually watching you work.
"get a hobby," you mumble, looking down at your laptop so he hopefully won't see your blushing cheeks.
"this is my hobby," he says. "i'm hanging out with my favorite person."
"seungcheol's going to be very sad to hear he's been demoted," you tease.
"he knows where he stands," jeonghan says, still watching you intently. you can't take it anymore, staring back at him.
"seriously, pretend to read or something! you're distracting me."
"i'm distracting you?" he smiles. "why? i'm not doing anything."
"i'm sending this email and then we're leaving," you say, and he shrugs.
"if you want, baby."
baby. it hits you harder this time, jeonghan's silly little nickname for you. you thought it started off as a sarcastic thing, but recently you feel like it sounds sweeter and sweeter coming from his lips. after last night, it makes your heart skip a beat, and that's when it hits you: are you on a date with jeonghan right now?!
"wait. waitwaitwait. hold on," you say, pointing at jeonghan and then yourself. "is this a date? are we on a date?"
"what? no baby," he shakes his head, and now you're confused. "no, if we were on a date you'd know."
"what's that supposed to mean?" you squeak out.
"do you want us to be on a date right now?" jeonghan counters, and you know your blushing cheeks have you in trouble. "you do?"
"i-i don't know-"
"hm, you wanna go on a date with me," jeonghan says matter of factly. "well, that's good to know."
"what are you doing?" you ask as he starts cleaning up his space.
"oh i need to go back to the apartment," he says. "gotta get my laptop so i can start planning a date that's worthy of you. i'll see you at home?"
"jeonghan, what?" you're left sputtering as he heads to the door, not looking back even though he knows your staring. he's afraid you'll see the excited/nervous shake in his hands, so he needs to go cool off. well, that and plan the best date of your entire life. he's got a lot of ground to cover. thankfully, the idiots you usually grace your time with have set the bar pretty low. jeonghan is determined to bring it higher, so high in fact that you won't be able to go on another first date without comparing it to his. if things go right though, maybe you won't have to go on a first date ever again.
-
jeonghan left the coffeeshop before you, so it would make sense if he was at the apartment when you got back, right? wrong. you come home about an hour later to an empty home, no sign of jeonghan. you think that's fine, it gives you a chance to actually get some work done. but jeonghan being mia has you a little nervous. what's he doing? he said he was going to plan a date. for you. and him. you and jeonghan...on a date? that's crazy.
you've done a good job ignoring that whole concept, trying to get ahead on a project you need to present later this week. you're so hyperfocused that the whole day goes by before you realize it, and when you finally emerge from your room you really expect to find jeonghan in the living room. he's still gone, so you decide to text him, asking casually if he would be home for dinner. the domesticity isn't lost on you, and it makes jeonghan smile when he gets it. he decides to call instead of texting back, balancing his phone against his shoulder and his cheek once you pick up.
"you miss me or something?" he asks, and you can hear the smile in his voice.
"i was just curious," you reply nonchalantly. "you've been missing all day."
"i've been busy."
"oh ok."
"i'll be home soon though," he tells you. "don't make dinner, just make sure you're dressed in an hour."
"for what?"
"a surprise."
"i need more information and you know that," you scoff, and you hear jeonghan chuckle.
"dress nice, but not fancy. and wear something blue so we'll match," he explains, and you feel your cheeks warm. "i gotta go, but i'll see you soon, baby."
hearing that coming from jeonghan now makes your heart skip a beat, and it makes you wonder if you've always felt like this and you just didn't notice. you keep thinking about him as you get ready, steaming out a dress you were planning to wear on a date that didn't happen. it's a soft blue with long sleeves and a low tie in the front. you worry for a moment that it might be too revealing, but checking the time rushes you into action. you're almost ready when there's a knock at the front door, which you ignore. there's another knock, this time louder, so you grumble your way to the living room to peek through the peephole. you gasp when you see what's on the other side.
you throw the door open, revealing a visibly nervous jeonghan with a bouquet of flowers in his hands. he's wearing a blue shirt, almost the exact shade of your dress, and he openly stares at you with a happy smile and a look in his eyes that you've never seen before.
"jeonghan?" you ask, pulling him from his intense focus on your chest.
"y/n," he smiles, eyes flicking up to yours. "you look stunning."
"i'm not ready yet," you pout slightly, checking the time on your phone. "you weren't very specific about when you were coming home."
"you look perfect," he says, checking you out again. "what else could you need to do?"
"wouldn't you like to know?" you tease, and he rolls his eyes.
"i can give you ten minutes, but any longer than that and we'll be late."
"late for what?" you ask as he passes you the flowers. "these are beautiful by the way, carnations are-"
"your favorite, i know," he smiles softly. "you buy yourself a bunch almost every time you're at the grocery store."
"i can't remember the last time someone bought me flowers either," you mumble, opening the door enough for jeonghan to come inside. "what are you still doing out there? it's your house, come in."
"finish getting ready," he laughs at you, reaching for the flowers again. "i'm putting them in a vase, weirdo. you'll get them back when you're done getting pretty."
"i'll be back," you whisper, running off before he can see how nervous you just got. you try to calm your nerves as you finish your touch ups, panicking last minute over which shoes and purse go with your outfit.
jeonghan is sitting on the couch, your flowers in your favorite vase on the coffeetable. he perks up at the sound of you shuffling down the hallway, but he pouts when he sees you holding up all your shoes.
"y/n, we're gonna be late."
"i don't know which ones to wear," you say simply, and he smiles as he comes up to you, analyzing the choices. he picks the white shoes and the white purse.
"glad we're still keeping this tradition alive even though i'm the one taking you out this time," he says proudly, watching you get situated. you stand back up, mussing your hair one last time before he asks, "ready to go, beautiful?"
"i don't know why i'm so nervous," you tell him, taking his arm as you leave the apartment. "we hang out all the time."
"yeah, but this isn't us hanging out," jeonghan says as you wait for the elevator. "i'm taking you on the best date of your life. nerves are completely valid."
"are you nervous?" you whisper, leaning in so jeonghan gets a good whiff of your perfume that he loves finding traces of all through his life. he holds your gaze, eyes flicking down momentarily before he shakes his head.
"no, i thought i would be, but i'm not," he replies simply as you get on the elevator.
"ok good, so i'll just freak out for the both of us then."
"would you? that takes a lot of pressure off of me," jeonghan jokes, and you pinch his arm. "ouch! so mean to me when i've made the perfect night for you."
"and what does this perfect night entail?" you ask. jeonghan just shakes his head, leading you out into the lobby of the building. he takes you a different way, not walking to the parking garage but instead to the main entrance of your building. "jeonghan, are we walking there? i don't think i can make it in these shoes-"
you stop mid-sentence, spotting the shiny baby blue mustang convertible parked outside. you look at jeonghan, mouth open in surprise. he has to tug you down the hallway and out into the cool night air, helping you into the passenger seat with ease. you watch on in shock as he gets into the driver's side, finally cutting through the fog in your mind to ask, "do you even know how to drive this?"
"yeah," jeonghan says coolly, opening the glovebox to hand you a scrunchie of yours that he stole. "here, you might wanna put your hair up."
"you're insane," you tell him, playing with the scrunchie in your lap as he starts the car. you can't believe this so far, and the date's barely begun. what other surprises could he possibly have in store for you?
-
after a quick ride out of the city, you find yourself at a retro drive in that's completely empty. you have a sneaking suspicion jeonghan rented it just for the two of you tonight, but you don't have a chance to ask. once he parks, he's asking you to open the glovebox and you smile when you see the stack of movie theatre candy boxes he's stashed away. you take them out, turning back to jeonghan to see he's produced a tub of popcorn from somewhere and a couple of your favorite sodas. you stare at him with your mouth opening and closing like a fish and he just smiles proudly in return.
"jeonghan, what did you do?" you finally ask, and he laughs.
"do you like it?"
"what are we doing here?"
"watching a movie," he says obviously. he shifts the snacks, the drinks going into the holders by the radio and the popcorn and candy going on the dashboard. "come closer," he mumbles, tugging your arm. the smooth vinyl of the seats sending you flying into jeonghan's side, and you giggle nervously as you adjust your dress. jeonghan lays the snacks out over your laps and drapes his arm across your shoulders for good measure. he looks at you to gauge whether you're settled or not, and when he decides you're ready he presses on the horn once. the screen in front of you lights up, and you gasp as you see the opening credits for your favorite movie flashing before you.
"where did you get the idea to do this?" you ask him with a smile, taking a few pieces of popcorn to give you something to do with your hands.
"just thought it would be something different," he shrugs, and you leave it at that. you can barely focus on the movie, hyperaware of how warm jeonghan is next to you and how every glance he casts your way sends your heart racing faster and faster. a few minutes into it, you remember your hair is still tied up from the ride, so you shuffle out of jeonghan's grasp to pull the scrunchie down and reset yourself. you know jeonghan is watching, so you mumble, "watch the movie, weirdo."
"i've seen it before," he whispers back, eyes still heavy on you. "i'm not missing anything."
"you've seen me before too," you point out, leaning back into his side once you're done moving around. "quite a lot, actually."
"yeah, but i've never seen you on a date before," he says. "and on a date with me? whoa. i gotta soak it all in."
you turn to look at him then, admiring the way his hair falls so slightly into his eyes, the way his lips stretch over his shy smile, how his eyes glisten when they meet yours. you could kick yourself for not noticing any of this sooner. who knew you had exactly what you were looking for right here?
"jeonghan, i-" you start, but realize you don't have the words to tell him what you want to say. you stop, staring at him with your brows furrowed cutely.
"what, baby?" he laughs, his thumb coming up to trace the creases in your forehead. "you're gonna give yourself premature wrinkles like this."
"why are you doing this?" you ask quietly. "why are you so...wonderful? all the time?"
"because," he shrugs, his hand falling from your forehead to rest just below your chin. "i've been trying to show you what it would be like. took you long enough to come around."
"show me what?" you ask confused.
"what it's like being loved by me," he smiles back. you feel your breath catch in your throat, and you want to say something. you want to tell him how you feel, how you're sorry it took you so long, how you love every moment you spend with jeonghan by your side. instead you just lean forward, lips brushing over his. you bring your hands up to his neck, wrapping them in the soft hair at the back of his head as you scoot impossibly closer and try to press all your love into this one kiss. jeonghan keeps his hold on your chin, thumb stroking softly at your cheek. he's the first one to pull back, laughing when you try to bring his lips back to yours so quickly. he leans his forehead against yours, soft hair tickling your skin as he asks, "so you get it now?"
"yeah," you nod, knocking your heads together and sending you both into a fit of giggles. jeonghan steals a few more kisses, and when you finally calm down he pulls you back into his side, squeezing you as close to him as possible. you lay your head down on his shoulder, pressing your lips into the closest part of him you can reach. "thank you, jeonghan. my jeonghan."
"my y/n," he sighs, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. "my beautiful, kind, funny girl."
"stop staring," you whisper bashfully. "you're missing the movie."
"i'm not missing anything," he repeats, but he takes one last look at you before he kisses the top of your head and finally turns back to the screen. this might be your first date with jeonghan, but it certainly won't be your last.

her //kmg// pt.3 happy ending
summary- as confusions build to an overbearing crescendo, a sudden visit by Mingyu's sister leads to an unplanned encounter with your ex-husband. will seeing him one last time help you make up your mind?

Things can't possibly get any more confusing.
For Mingyu and for you.
While on one hand, he wants to do right by you and let you go, he can't escape the simple fact that he needs you. Long, hard days filled with thoughts of you are his reality now- they have been for the past week or so. Unable to move, to eat, to sleep, Mingyu finds himself at the lowest he's ever been.
And that message- god, he feels so stupid for contacting you when you clearly didn't want to talk. The tiny letters below his text, marked 'read' feel like little needles moving deeper into his heart every time he clicks on your chat.
That isn't to say he resents you, though. It's quite the opposite. Mingyu's time alone has given him the opportunity to grow a newfound hatred for himself, and he spends every waking moment wishing he was someone else. Someone who didn't hurt you.
You, on the other hand, are confused too, but for a different reason altogether. Although you love him, and long to be with him, the question of your self-respect remains. Letting him back in would mean giving the man who cheated on you a second chance, but staying away would mean losing the man you love, over a mistake he regrets making.
As you sit across from your lawyer, hand trembling with the weight of consequence, your thoughts race around like jolts of electricity- flooding your head with doubt.
"...and this is the last of it, so you can jus-" he trails off, noticing your shaken state.
"ma'am?"
Your head snaps up, eyes widening.
"y-um, yes, I'm listening- sorry-" you mumble, swallowing hard as you blink away the tears welling up in your eyes. Thankful for the opaque, white table separating you, you suck in a deep breath, trying to hide your trembling limbs.
"don't be,"
He offers a gentle smile, eyes filled with pity as if to say- 'oh, you poor thing...', and slides one final paper your way.
"here's the last of it- after this, you'll be free for good,"
For good? As in permanently? There's no going back? You look towards the man before you, helpless and confused. Although this is all your own doing, you can't help but feel a pang of doubt at the last leg of your journey.
"so after this we would have officially separated? he'll no longer be my husband?"
From the slight tremble in your voice, your lawyer gathers that something isn't right. It's the same quiver he detected in Mingyu's words a few days back.
He sighs, retracting the final document.
"ma'am, we can do this on another da-"
"no I just-"
"there's no rush, is there? I can tell your mind isn't completely made up just yet, and the last thing I want is for you to make a decision you aren't 100% sure of."
You feel a tear slip down your cheek, dripping onto the papers below. And then another. And another.
The universe can be so unfair, so cruel, sometimes. What twisted satisfaction do the Gods get from watching you suffer like this? Things could've been so good with Mingyu. He could've treated you so well, been the perfect husband, loved you so truly- but no.
They had to come in and ruin it all.
"you can take your time, I'll be at the front desk if you need"
You barely acknowledge his departure, staring blankly at the table as tears blur your vision. It shouldn't be this hard. It really shouldn't. After all, this was your decision- your choice.
Mingyu fucked up. He broke your heart. He's the reason your self esteem is at the lowest it's ever been.
So why...
Why does this feel wrong? Why does it hurt so bad?
Your breaths grow shallow, each inhale speeding up until your heart thuds against your chest. The rapid rise and fall of your shoulders paints a pitiful picture, and you want nothing more than for the Earth to open up and swallow your sorrow.
That night you spent with Mingyu, opened up a world of possibilities- a world of hope- only to have it all come crashing down in an instant. For one night, you got to lay with him, to love him, to be loved by him and that was it. You saw a faint glimmer of hope, that shining light at the end of a long tunnel, but it slipped away just before you could reach out and grasp it.
Reality shook you awake and now here you are- crying in a cold meeting room, all by yourself, wishing none of this ever happened.
It pains you to say it, but the truth is these past few days have been really hard. You've spent hours scrolling through your phone in search of Mingyu's pictures, spent every night forcing yourself to put your phone away only to have him haunt your sleep- you just can't push him away.
All of a sudden, there's a knock at the door. Your head jerks up, eyes making out a petite frame through the translucent glass doors.
"come- come in," you call, rubbing your eyes furiously, "I was just about to leave"
The door creaks open and a familiar face comes into view.
"oh-"
Mingyu's sister.
Minseo's eyes grow watery at your state and she hurries into the room, pulling you into a tight embrace.
"how did you-"
"word travels fast," she interrupts, cradling your face as she stares sympathetically at your puffy, red eyes. "I thought I'd check in on you both, but neither of you has been answering my calls..."
"sorry I-"
"don't be! I just wanted to see if you're doing okay, y'know?"
Her eyes lock onto yours, asking silently- 'you are doing okay, right?' and you can't help the way your gaze falters. She looks so sincere, so apologetic, you don't want to lie to her.
"y/n,"
"I'm fine"
"y/n."
Her voice is firm.
You meet her stare.
"let me buy you something to drink, hm?" she smiles, veiling her concern. "starbucks?"
"I don't go there anymore,"
"someplace else, then."
You nod, offering her a small smile, and you make your way to a coffee shop nearby. As you find a table and place your orders, Minseo's smile falters ever so slightly.
And then she begins to speak.
"I know this is the last thing I should be asking, but um- you haven't- you haven't heard from Mingyu, have you?"
You sigh, shaking your head.
"oh."
The slight quiver in her voice has you on edge, and your fingers itch to reach out and hold her hand. Before you can stop yourself, a hesitant- "why're you asking?" slips past your lips.
"it's been a little over a week... all of us have tried to call or text or- I don't know, we've tried everything- fuck, I even went to his house, but still, there was no response. I'm a little worried, you know?"
Attentively, you nod along, brows furrowing as she goes on to explain further. A few minutes pass, and her story moves from bad to worse. So far, from what you've gathered, it isn't clear where or how he is.
Minseo's eyes begin to glass over, lips quivering as she speaks on.
"I know what he did is wrong, I would hate him too if I was you, but he's-" she cuts herself off with a trembling sob, "he's my brother, my family- and- and I don't know how to fix him, y/n. I don't know what he's doing in that house, I don't know if he's even in there anymore-"
Before you know it, your own eyes begin to water, and she takes in a breath.
"I don't know what to do, y/n"
"listen- Minseo I, I'm the last person he'd want to see right now- I'm not sure what you've got planned but-"
"no- no he loves you don't you get it? he only wants to see you right now. not me, not his friends, certainly not that other girl- just you."
You stay silent.
"I'm asking for a lot, I understand, but he's- I just need to know he's okay. and- and you're the only person he'll let in"
That's how you find yourself here, standing before the doors to your apartment. The familiar frame floods you with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia, and you're almost about to turn around when something catches your eye.
Newspapers, bills, letters- all scattered at the foot of the door, unopened, piled upon each other the way you've seen before at abandoned homes.
Tentatively, you press the doorbell, cringing at how the sound seems to pierce through the still air. The sharp twang echoes all throughout the house, like a bullet ricocheting, and your heartbeat quickens.
For about a minute, there's no response- just silence. Maybe this was a bad idea. He probably isn't even h-
"leave me alone, Minseo." a hoarse voice interrupts suddenly, drawing your attention right away.
He's here.
Right behind this door, he's standing, breathing.
"it's um, it's y/n, actuall-"
Before you can finish your sentence, the door swings open, and to your dismay, Mingyu looks like shit.
Standing before you dressed in the same old pajamas, your ex-husband looks a mess. His eyes are so red and swollen you can't tell if he's slept at all. He's lost weight too... The once proud bulk of muscle he sported has drastically reduced to a much slimmer, skinnier figure.
But this all seems like nothing when you notice something held tight within his grasp-
"is that my-"
"no! no- it's uh, it's" he sputters helplessly, stepping back to let you in, "I was jus-just cleaning up! yeah just um, just cleaning,"
Your heart twists. The iron grip he's got on your t-shirt tells you a completely different story, but for now, you let it be. You don't need to dig up his feelings. Not when you haven't sorted your own out.
"how come you're- why are you here?"
"oh uh, m-my stuff? yeah! all my stuff is here and I need it, so..." you lie, looking around the house as you walk to the living room.
It's colder than before, somehow. Haunted. There's not a light or a lamp in sight, no fire burning in the fireplace- just total darkness. Everything is just as you left it too; your mug of coffee is still on the dinner table, Mingyu's briefcase is still set near the couch, the wall clock still hasn't been wound, now telling the tale of the past.
He notices your wandering gaze and suddenly feels conscious. Scratching the back of his neck, Mingyu ushers you quickly to the couch, blocking your view from the side so you don't see the true mess.
The bedroom.
Your bedroom, rather.
Oh, if you saw the state of that room-
Dark, heavy blinds shut off the outside world, a swirl of your clothes and blankets litter the bed, and the air hangs heavy, with spritzes of your perfume clinging to every surface.
The last thing Mingyu wants is for you to see the state of that room.
"could I-"
"have a seat-"
You both start at the same time, turning to each other awkwardly. He let's his gaze linger on yours for a moment too long, and all hell breaks loose. The air of pretense dissipates within seconds. Mingyu's eyes tell you all you need to know.
You're the first to look away, suddenly overwhelmed by the emotion behind his stare. The longing and guilt and hurt etched deep in the universe of his eyes is too much. If you stared any longer, there's no holding either of you back.
"you first," he urges, "you were saying?"
"nothing really, no I uh, I just wanted to get some of my stuff, so if I could just go ins-"
"I'll do it!" he interjects suspiciously, his body going rigid at the thought of you walking into his pathetic little chamber of secrets. "I'll um. tell me what you need"
Unable to catch on, you insist further, telling him- "no! no really I can do it myself, please-"
A few dozen fruitless protests later, you've won.
Somehow.
Mingyu tried his best, although in vain, and now he's got you sitting on the couch as he scrambles to tidy up to the best of his abilities.
But of course, he should have known.
With your level of patience, it was only a matter of minutes before your curiosity got the better of you and led you straight into the bedroom.
"hey, you really don't have to bother so mu-" you start as you walk in, freezing at the door when your eyes glance over what once was your bedroom.
With a bunch of your t-shirts tucked away under his arm and a couple more scattered over his pillows, Mingyu halts his actions, paralysed.
The air is damp and clammy and it stinks of your perfume- strong enough to give you a headache. It feels as if time itself has stilled, as if it hasn't moved past that night you spent together.
Your bra is still in the corner of the room, your slippers are still at the foot of the bed, your pillow still has tear stains at the edge; it's like you were here just yesterday.
"Mingyu..."
He looks guilty. Like a puppy that got caught red handed with it's little snout burried deep inside a can of treats. You hate to say it, but it tugs at your heart a little more than you would've liked.
"I know how this looks-" he starts, still clutching desperately onto your clothes, "but I promise I'm okay." His voice cracks at the end, a slight quiver making it's way through the tough facade he's put up, and you feel your eyes begin to water.
Your eyes glisten with the saddest tears you've shed- the brightest, most sorrowful stars in Mingyu's galaxy- and suddenly, it doesn't matter to him that he's not yours anymore. Taking long, purposeful strides towards you, he closes in, dropping the clothes in his arms and taking hold of your face instead.
"I'm okay." he whispers, cradling your face, "I promise."
The tears begin to fall, one after another, and soon you're sobbing like a lost child. Your face crumples into the most devastating look Mingyu's ever seen, and before long, a heavy drop cascades down his cheek.
He thumbs away your tears continuously, swiping gently at your skin in distress with an expression that reads- 'but why are you crying? baby, please stop crying-'
It's a pathetic picture you two paint, but the moment means more to you than the he would know. All your thoughts of revenge and rage have cooled and now you see things for what they truly are.
He loves you.
He loves you and he knows he's fucked up so he's letting you go, no matter what becomes of him. To give you a shot at finding someone better, someone who won't hurt you like he did.
"please don't cry-" he begs, "I'll stop! okay? I'll clean up and give you your things ba-"
"you idiot"
The quiver in your voice silences him in an instant.
"you- why are you-" your voice gives way, cracking as you choke back a sob, unable to speak further.
Mingyu's lips tremble watching you. This is all his fault. You don't need to see this. You don't need to feel sorry for him. Yet, here you are, crying terribly for the man who hurt you.
Crying for him. After all he's done.
As if he hasn't given you reason enough to cry, Mingyu seems to have managed to add to the list, albeit unintentionally.
"baby-" His thumbs wipe away your tears and he lowers his face towards yours. "baby, please don't cry,"
He looks defeated. Like the last standing soldier, helplessly outnumbered by the enemy. If he felt like an asshole before, this just took the cake. Despite vowing to himself every night to never hurt you again, never make you cry again, here he is.
"c'mere, we'll go outside, okay? don't- don't stay in here"
Dumbly, you let him lead you to the hall, standing beside him as he grabs a tissue from it's holder. With the most gentle touch, Mingyu dabs at your skin, blotting away your tears, unaware of his own.
The proximity between your faces is dangerous. He's too close. While he's focused on wiping away your tears, you're torn between your thoughts.
His lips are right there, a mere inch away from yours. Technically, kissing him would be the easiest thing in the world- afterall, he's right there,- but somehow, he couldn't feel further away.
"did you stay in there this whole time?"
Finally, your voice finds it's way back.
His fingers halt their movements, and his eyes meet yours.
"yeah." he sighs.
There's an immeasurable guilt in his eyes, one that almost forces you to look away.
Almost.
Screaming from within, your mind urges you to draw your eyes back, but your body doesn't yield. It can't, rather. This was a bad decision to begin with- going to see your now ex-husband, when you yourself aren't certain where you stand. Do you still love him? Are you going to be okay without him? Will you be able to forgive him?
Despite being on shaky ground, you decided to come see him, and now, whatever resolve you've managed to build over the past week, comes crashing down.
One thing sticks out to you.
If there's anything that hurts more than a divorce, it's this- seeing the man you love turn into something unrecognizable, seeing him so struck with guilt and grief he barely seems alive.
As if connected by string, your eyes stay on each other's, neither one of you daring to look away. The pull of a strong magnet draws your bodies closer, and he whispers- "I miss you,".
With the gap between your lips closing soon, your eyes flutter shut, lips trembling ever-so-slightly with a mix of anticipation and anxiety.
Mingyu's breath fans over your face, the heat of his body burning softly against yours, and you lean closer, trying to close the gap between you and him, when all of a sudden, that warmth disappears.
Your eyes snap open, widening when you see that he's backed away.
"what ar-"
"we shouldn't-" he gulps, turning away as he steps back, putting safe distance between you and him. "it didn't uh, didn't end too well last time,"
Oh.
Right.
You hang your head, shoulders drooping- "you're right I shouldn't have forc-"
"no! no, I want to kiss you so bad, god I wanna kiss you- I just, let-let's talk first? before rushing into things, I just, y'know, I think we should talk. and- and I need you to be sure that this is what you want"
Your stomach flips hearing him speak.
'god I wanna kiss you'
"just kiss me, please" you whisper, holding back another wave of tears.
"I don't want you to leave again" Mingyu's brows scrunch together, a look of pain painting his features as he reminds you of what happened. Of how you made love only to part the next morning.
"I-"
"we c-"
You interrupt each other once again, growing tense as the air begins to weigh down on you both. There's a stale, heavy feeling clinging to everything, and it smells distinctly of the past.
"I can't lose you again," he says softly, eyes glossing over. "I won't be able to live with myself if I get to feel you again only to let you go in the end"
Here lies the last step, the final decision.
Mingyu's words mark the end of your dilemma- you have to choose now.
Letting out a shaky sigh, you shake your head, trying to stop the free fall of tears- "I'm so confused-"
"you're confused and I've hurt you and I wish I could change things but-" he winces, running his hands through his hair, "but I- no matter how I think about it, I love you. I love you and I've never stopped loving you. If you want to end things here, I understand, okay? I really do. After what I've done- I don't want to be forgiven I just- just please stop hurting"
He pauses, sniffling.
"and if moving on is what you need, if someone else can help you heal, I'll gladly let you go. so stop caring about me, okay? I'll- I'll be fine, I am fine, see?" he laughs through tears, clenching his fists, "just- I want you to be sure of whatever you decide."
"Mingyu..."
"I love you, okay? I really fucking love you and that's why I'll be alright. just show me that you'll be okay, that you'll find someone better-"
"there is no one better you idiot-" you sniffle, stepping towards him slowly, mind miraculously made up. "I'll find a good man, an honest man, a man who doesn't make me cry but I'll know for every second that I breathe, that he isn't you."
The air stills. The sound of cars and people and the city suddenly disappears as if in a vacuum.
Marching towards you, Mingyu closes the distance between you and him, wrapping his arms around your waist as you throw yours over his shoulder. His palms press down on your lower back, fingers splayed, and he burrows his head in the crook of your neck.
"I love you- I love you I love you I love you," he chants, lips pressed against your skin.
A hand slides up to the nape of your neck, pulling you closer still, and your grasp tightens around him.
It's like a scene straight out a movie- like perfect fiction with it's tear-stained confession and reconciliation- and you swear you hear music. The orchestral build, the grand crescendo that plays when two lovers are finally reunited at long last.
There's violins and cellos and harps and rhythm, and it all feels complete. It all feels right.
A tear wets the skin of your neck, and you pull back, gazing intently at Mingyu. He opens his mouth, taking in a sharp breath.
"I've missed you-"
"I missed you too,"
You reach up briefly, standing on your tip-toes, and press a chaste kiss to his lips, smiling sweetly with tears swelling in your eyes.
He clears his throat.
"what's next?"
You shrug, eyeing him mischievously.
"I've just gotten divorced", a humorous smile lights up your face, "don't I need to find myself a handsome young man now?"
Mingyu matches your grin, pecking your lips quickly before saying-
"how 'bout I take you on a date- say, Saturday, 8 o'clock- and we see where it goes?"
"mm, I'd like that very much"

HI I LOVE YOUR FANFICS SM! i’m here for the angst istg, if u don’t mind me requesting can u do one where reader and harvey are not together but they sleep together every once in a while so technically fwb and reader later on finds out that she’s pregnant and at first harvey doesn’t know what to do cause he never thought he’d be a father so soon so he freaks out big time and he kind of takes it on reader and they fight but then later on harvey shows up at reader’s place and he comforts her because he knows she’s probably anxious enough as it is and it’s a happy ending in the end?
Thanks a lot for the request! And also, I'm really sorry for the very very very very long wait. Life can be hard sometimes🥲 But here I am, ready to rock and rumble, and will tackle the other requests that've been collecting dust ASAP. Enjoy❤️
BEATING HEART
Harvey woke up to an empty spot beside him. He rubbed his eyes and propped his body up. "If I don't know you better, I'd say you're running away before I wake up." She laughed as she put on her earrings. "I have an early meeting this morning. Haven't I told you?" Harvey shrugged. He didn't remember talking much last night. "Come on, surely you can stay for a nice breakfast with me." She laughed as she took her bag. "If I don't know you better, I'd say you're catching feelings for me." It was Harvey's turn to laugh. "I'll see you tonight?" Harvey asked. "See? Catching feelings," she smirked at him, granting a fake gag from him. "Ciao!" she said, blowing him a kiss, and not long after, Harvey heard the door close.
"You're cheery this morning," Donna greeted Harvey. "Good morning to you too, Donna," Harvey said, a smile plastered on his face. "Ah, it's her," Donna said, pointing her slender finger at him. "Who's her?" Harvey asked, feigning confusion. "Oh, Harvey. You know damn well who she is." Harvey stopped and looked innocently at her, shaking his head slowly. Donna scoffed as she rushed him back to his feet. "Whatever did I do so that you escorted me to my office?" Donna shrugged. "I took it; things are sailing smoothly with her." Harvey sat in his chair. "Don't you have work to do?" Harvey folded both his arms on the table and smiled. Donna saluted at him and left his office, satisfied after getting an answer to her question.
It has been exactly a week since Harvey heard from her. As much as he tried to sweep it under the rug, he got quite worried. Well, yes, they agreed on this whole casual fling, but not hearing from her certainly ticked something in him. Harvey sat on the sofa in his office, phone in hand. His finger hovered over her number. Should he call her? Harvey sighed, maybe she was busy. But THAT busy not to contact him? His finger still hovered over her number. Fuck it, he thought. He pressed for her name. He waited; she usually never takes this long to pick up. Silence. Harvey looked at his phone, turned out she already picked up the phone. "Hey?" Harvey, unsure, greeted her. Something was most definitely wrong. "Harvey.." Long pause. "Is everything..." Before Harvey could finish his question, she cut him off. "I can't talk right now," and with that, Harvey heard a click. She hung up on him.
Harvey was pissed. Harvey Specter had no experience with ghosting. With a wink or a smirk, women flocked to his lap. He swiveled in his chair, now facing the large glass window. As much as he wanted to say that he doesn't care, he does care. Even more than he cared to admit. He seemed lost in thought before he finally realized the vibration in his pocket. When her name popped up on his screen, he couldn't hide the smile creeping up his face. He opened his mouth, ready to say good morning, but before he got the chance, she silenced him with her words. "Harvey, I need to see you." She sounded urgent. Harvey's heart dropped. Is she in peril? Did someone take her hostage? "If you're in danger, say lemon drop." Harvey was prepared to fly out of his chair if she was in danger. "Harvey, I'm serious. I need to see you. Tonight." Harvey's shoulders dropped. She's okay, Harvey repeated to himself. "Okay, sure. I'll make us a dinner reservation." Harvey was about to suggest a restaurant when she cut him off, again. "No. I need to see you on a neutral ground. Somewhere quiet, but in public." She lost him on neutral ground. Neutral ground? "Will your office at 8 p.m. work?"
"Hey," Harvey pulled her into a hug the moment she set foot in his office. "Hey," she whispered back. To Harvey's surprise, she hugged him back. Tightly. Harvey pulled away but kept her at arm's length. He took a good look at her face. Her face looked puffy, with dark circles under her eyes that she tried to hide under makeup. Harvey remained silent as he guided her to sit. They both said nothing, but they kept looking deep into each other's eyes. "Please tell me if something is wrong; I can help you. We'll get through whatever it is together." Harvey took her hand and gave it a squeeze. "We'll get through this together? Are you sure?" She let out a bitter laugh as confusion flashed across Harvey's face. "What is that supposed to mean?" Tears suddenly filled her eyes, and her lips quivered. "Oh, sweetheart, no, no," Harvey cooed. "What is it? What's wrong?" Harvey asked as he wiped the tears from her cheeks. "I'm pregnant," she whispered. It was even too quiet to be considered a whisper. Harvey quickly removed his hands from her cheeks and moved away. He sat farther from her. "You what?" Before she could respond, Harvey lifted his hand. "Aren't you taking the pill?" She nodded. "Yes, yes, I am. I never skipped a day. You know that!" she argued. "But the doctor said nothing is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy." Harvey's jaw tightened, and his lips formed into a line. She tried to grab something from her bag. Harvey stood up in panic when he saw what it was. A pregnancy test and a sonogram. With both items in her hand, she stretched her arm. Full of hesitation, Harvey took it. He examined the sonogram with trembling hands. She watched him carefully. Not long after, she saw him shake his head. He threw the pregnancy test and the sonogram on the table. It made a loud clank, while the sonogram slowly made its way to the carpet. "How quickly can you do a paternity test?' Harvey's voice sounded cold. Unconsciously, her hand reached her still-flat stomach. Trying to protect it. "You think I sleep around?" A look of betrayal crossed her worn face. Instead of answering, Harvey stared intently at her. An answer to her question. "I'll transfer you the necessary money to complete the test." In the meantime, you can leave. I'm busy." She watched in disbelief as he used his lawyer's tone and language on her. She held out a sob as he nonchalantly sat on his chair, paying her no attention.
Two weeks have passed since that fateful night, and Harvey, for the love of God, hasn't had a good night's sleep since. Naturally, he was in a foul mood, and he made sure everyone around him knew it. He couldn't be certain whether not hearing from her was a good or bad thing. Never before in his life had fatherhood crossed his mind, and suddenly the prospect of it was right before him, knocking him off. But above everything, he missed her. Some nights, guilt clouded over him. Some nights, it was anger. Today, it was just nothing. He felt as though he had lost his entire being. Best bet? That night, she took it away with her. He sighed as the elevator came to a halt. He sauntered to his office but abruptly stopped just a few steps away from his desk when he saw an unfamiliar envelope with the Mount Sinai Hospital logo on the front. Harvey Specter was not one to run away from even the most dire situations. But right now, his instinct was to run away as far as possible. The two outcomes that awaited him in that envelope filled him with equal terror. He took a deep breath, and after a long 5 minutes of contemplation, he opened the envelope.
Harvey was sure that he never sped through the streets of New York like that. The tires on his DB9 screeched in protest as he parked. He banged on a door he knew well, not only loudly but rapidly. A look of surprise graced her face. "Harvey..." she shook her head. Her hand firmly stayed on the door. She was ready to close it. To Harvey's surprise, her voice was devoid of any anger. As if she were okay with what Harvey had done to her in the past few weeks. "Please, 10 minutes. Please?" Harvey plead. She stared at Harvey's face. He looked terrible. She nodded as she opened the door for him. Harvey followed her inside like a lost dog, as if he had never been to her house before. She stopped in her kitchen and turned to look at Harvey. He stood close to her. They gazed at each other. Anger, disappointment, guilt, everything. Everything. Her lip quivered as she looked down, breaking eye contact. Harvey fell to his knees, his hands covering his face as he let out a sob. She did nothing but watch him. Her heart aches for him. He looked up at her and hugged her. His hand circled her knees, his face buried in her sweater-covered stomach. "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry," he mumbled hoarsely. Her heart was torn. After what he had done, how could she forgive him? She raised her arm. She stopped herself just before it touched his hair; her hand hovered there for some time. Finally, she allowed her hand to gently land on his head. She caressed his head softly as if comforting him silently. They stayed in that position for a while. "Harvey, please," she whispered, encouraging him to stand up. He subtly shook his head. He feared that once this moment was over, he could lose her. Not only her, but their child. She gave up; she knew Harvey wouldn't listen to her. So she dropped to her knees with Harvey's hands on hers. They now sat on the cold marble in her kitchen. Harvey's eyes were bloodshot, and so were hers. Harvey leaned his head forward, and to his surprise, she met him halfway. She closed her eyes, foreheads touching. "I'm sorry. I have nothing else to say, but I'm sorry," Harvey whispered. His eyes widened as he tried to catch any reactions from her. She shook her head weakly, and his heart dropped.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The steady sound of strong heartbeats filled the quiet room. His eyes shone with unshed tears as he heard it for the first time. He felt a gentle squeeze on his hand, and he shifted his gaze from the screen to the woman lying there on the bed. "The baby is going as strong as ever." Harvey smiled at the doctor, and never before had his heart felt so much joy. As they exited the doctor's room, Harvey was instantly busy on his phone. She sighed. "What are you doing?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at him. "Here." Harvey showed her the screen of his phone, and her brows knitted in confusion. He took his phone back. "I think we should buy the ultrasound machine; I'm inquiring about it as we speak," Harvey said proudly, and she just shook her head in amusement. They waited for Ray to pull up by the hospital's driveway. She laughed as she felt Harvey's gaze on her. "What?" She looked at him, and Harvey smiled goofily at her. "I'm so happy," he said, taking a step closer and taking her hand. The cold ring on her ring finger made him smile even more. "There's us, our child, growing healthily because we're so happy," Harvey rambled, and you laughed at his excitement. He stopped himself and looked at her with great meaning, one hand on her cheek and another resting gently on her small bump. "I love you. God, I love you more than anything in this universe."
