Hatchworth brought something to the table that just clicks for me that the other automatons dont seem to do i always find myself rewatching his little skits in shows and most of the SPG songs i do listen to regularly are Hatchy ones, theyre definitely the ones i seek out the most. ofc i listen to other songs but theyre really contained to their first two albums

i do plan on sitting down and listening to some full albums (hopefully thatll spark something in me because i really want to fall in love w/ SPG im already head over heals with the concept and i love their live preformances i just really wanna love their music the same) but so much of their sound just doesnt appeal to me or some reason maybe if you have a few songs that youre particularly fond of you can recommend :-)

in regards to fairytale and chibi,, i personally havent watched it and have been just fine. since you’ll come to see that a lot of the world building revolves about remnant’s fairytales, theyre like supplemental material and extra world building. chibi also isnt needed as it is just the character in silly skits, but it can be very silly to watch at times so after v8’s finale ripped my heart out, i turned to that to lift me up KFKDMGMF

I'm trying to get details of my si down, and since ososan has an older art style, i chose to give myself dot eyes and similar features to the matsus (bean face :3 mouth and my nose when i draw it)

I think taking inspiration from little orphan annie would be fun bc of the similaries of the dot eyes and collar.

I have another oc who i changed from the generic pretty girl art style to a tezuka inspired style

I'm currently tryna figure out how to properly blend these art styles cohesively! I dont think osomatsu actually looks weird next to a tezuka style mostly bc while san is very distinct kun clearly took a lot of inspiration from tezukas work and imo thats still pretty true

However an american style is pretty distinct especially a syndicated newspaper style! I dont want a kappa mikey situation but i do want it to be obvious that i look different from the characters simply bc i'd be based on a comic book character from a contemporary series. I also thought about an arcjie esque art style but tbh i dnt rly like it that much

I'm also trying to piece together what and who my sona is both in the series and outside of it. I like the idea that the characters have their own distinct lived when theyre not on air or getting ready to be on air. And i like the idea of being a panni/lola bunny esque nerd character. Like the comics and stuff i write feels like an "off season" sorta thing. Like me and totty are married and fuckin nasty OFF season but ON season i just chase him and he keeps me as an orbiter and a friend while also turning me down. Its a reverse totoko situation where im fawning after him

But who id be in the show would most likely be kinda like dobusu where i dont have a static orgin or background, even in the normal universe.

A couple new design notes:

- 6 curls for hair and for bangs

- changed nose from the matsu to a straight line (like annies, also looks cute and bunnish)

- pupils are always white, but when angry or heavily masking they are black

- kitty :3 mouth but also small frown too

- regularly cycles between 4 hair styles: hair down, hair in a single braid, hair in two braids, and hair in pinapple

- has a few outfits, each one mysteriously coordinated to match what todo is wearing that day. So my regular outfit is all black with a mint trim around the collar and mint shoes.

Since my character would be one obsessed w todo itd be rare id be in an episode or skit unrelated to him, and if i was, itd probably be about totoko or oso or ichi, though id have a funny dynamic with everyone.

I could be used interchangeably w todos tsukkomi in the same way totoko tends to be, however between me and totty im the boke. I'm great at word play, observation humor, retorts, reactions, and dry humor. However when tottys aroundim very dumb silly love sick. Like elle from LB.

My character would b very reserved and similar to tottys in the sense outside of the matsuno dynamic we're both trying and failing to become real adults. I checked off a lot of boxes thinking id grow up, but then ended up back at square one. I'd also be emotionally immature, prone to jealousy, clingy, and possessive. But totty wouldnt necessarily notice bc he figures thats just what admiration is like.

I'd have a job (bc i wouldnt be able to live there otherwise) as a bilingual concierge at akatsuka hotel even tho i have a medical admin degree. I would also do real estate or childcare stuff depending on the episode. My character would be pretty smart, but not really believe it, but is very resourceful and willing to help to help.

But i wouldnt be a good character and would be incredibly selfish in certain circumstances, mostly or entirely relating to totty. Bc i love him so much id be either his henchman and kinda like a pokemon he could command to attack people or would kidnap him depending on the episode. Sometimes hes oblivious other times hes not he doesnt see me as a "girl" bc of my gender identity and is one of the characters who consistently corrects others when im referred to as his girlfriend or as a woman. We'd literally be besties.

Anyways id be one of those "ruthless for love" and this is the best way to describe my morality

I get along with totty a lot bc i remind him of his brothers all in one person, and in a way thats appealing for him.

I'm extremely opportunistic and full of ideas, and willing to say something morally repugnate if it gets me what i want like oso, and a pervert (me and totty would talk about sex a LOT and he wonr fuck me in canon 😭😭😭 but we nasty outside of the seasons) so my friendship with Totty is pretty much vibes city. I would also immediately fall into the oso henchman dynamic and get in line if totty did

I talk in flowery metaphors, and am very dramatic like kara but without actually visibly standing out. Im the minions for confidence so i could be really good friends with kara as a feedback loop of hyping him up. I would expect him to gas me up too and he would. Totty probably would like this tho bc its not outwardly weird so he wouldnt worry about being judged by association.

Im responsible and in a genuine way (unlike choro), i like to plan and come up with lil activities and also am obsessive w anime and manga. Totty would like this bc im not all talk, and when i am being hypocritical he knows he can actually just point it out and i might be combative but eventually if im convinced ill change my behavior.

Also i'm literally just like high school ichi. High level of masking, but actually a very edgy and angry person. When im in a stressful situation i do explode violently, especially if i tried to leave it. I kinda think totty would freak out about it every time i slip up, but it would provide great material for him to rip off of. Id also be friends with ichi bc i think seeing someone similar to himself reason to start killing indiscriminately would help him feel seen and also apologize to his family for acting like that

Iiii would probably say im similar to jyushi just for the eccentricities, and hyperactive behaviors, but honestly when jyushi isnt acting silly crazy we have s similar thought process of defusing situations by being funny, snd also i think jyushi is very practical internally

And i mean im just basically todo in the same way todomatsu is just basically all of his brothers. The presentation of the same habits are slightly different

But since in the anime they cant ever not be virgins or whatever im not actually with todo bc hes either actually oblivious depending on the episode, or just acting like it. In the series i'd mostly hang out with todo by himself, but if other characters were around id be in direct competition for his attention. He's slowly phase out sacchi + aida like he did with the two unnamed girls from s1. There would be scenarios like the beach episode where totty is kidnapped away from them but it'd mostly be by me and id be pretending idk how we lost the others! Id also stir up drama in a very green tea bitch way.

Because i'm very book smart, survival oriented, goal driven and impulsive i try to manage Todo's life in order to improve it (and also bc i plan on living off of his success when we get married) so i often involve him in different plots. However im 75% smart 25% the worlds biggest fucking fool so it only goes the way i want 25% of the time bc if tottys laziness and bc i try to force him thru it.

Despite our pretty platonic relationship, we occupy one of those homoerotic codependent friendships where im CLEARLY in love with him and hes like my evil queen ive vowed to serve my entire life. When im not obsessing over him tho my role would be totokos personal secretary and assistant.

how does one have game show host vibes in the philosophical way?? i mean. a show is an experience, and the host takes you through it while also making it fun and entertaining. life is also an experience and i think if you do not try to have fun along the way you die a long time before your body dies lol. but not a lot of people think about this, because its so easy to get swept out of the moment and into lifes insanity. this is why we are in desperate need of these silly little guys called hosts. i think i also like the irreverence and the sheer balls to the wall insanity attracts me. akira kogami, garfield the cat, max headroom, mister rogers, bob ross, pat sajack. and of course. kermit dee frog, all of these bold individuals did the job thats a lil bit of everything, that at the end of the day is also one with and facilitates the show. they are the glue that keeps a timeslot that would just be a pile of skits from falling flat on its ass. they shepherd the present moment so that things can be Seen. They tell the audience, welcome! everything is ok. this is where you are, and this is whats coming up. now look. listen. to host is to take a walk with someone, and to keep them company for a little while. which is what so so much art is really about at the end of the day.

there is significant overlap here with the more evil counterpart of the game show host, the used car salesman. both the host and the salesman project the confidence of those who have seen beyond the firmament. they have Figured It Out. a good shepherd must instill calmness in the flock. but unlike the game show host which is a capitalistically originated entity but still with a little breath of soul, of art, the salesman has seen through to the simple, ugly truth, and he is not interested in distractions or happiness like art. the salesman sees that the only one who can possibly succeed in this system must be hollow, and hollow he becomes. but still the truth shines in him, shines out from his desperate hungry eyes like light through cathedral windows. hes happy. as happy as he can be. hes “successful.” as successful as he can be. he can imitate, but he can never quite truly be a good host, because being a good host requires some amount of care for your audience. the audience will, if theyre lucky, sense this deep dissonance in him and trust themselves instead of his words.

He's funny. Most of all he is the FUNNIEST character in that show and has so many of the most memorable moments. He bends reality he's completely off the wall and nobody knows what his deal is. JUST. FUN!!! REALLY FUN! He was my favorite from the beginning but he didn't become a comfort chara until the "Jyushi falls in love" ep. I love that out of everyone, they tackled something so heavy with the silliest character they had. I've written about this a million times so you get the picture! It means a lot to me!

for anybody whos interested: i put a lot of thought into this chapter and this scene in particular. and ive jotted down some of those thought processes under the cut. i care way too fucking much about hlvrai and it shows

i was thinking to myself like........hes been too nice lately. i gotta figure out a way to bridge the gap btwn "goofy little guy whos just trying to help his best bud through the game" and "terrifying big bad who genuinely freaks the shit out of gordon because hes under the impression that this is just a game". but mostly b/c i needed to find someway to help them along to the extremely self-indulgent rewrite of the public bathroom skit without benreys particular Demeanor in that scene coming out of nowhere

there is just like. so much going on in that intro commentary. emotionally speaking. theres a lot of set up going into getting them from point A to point B, okay

to me the bathroom skit is fundamental in terms of, like, establishing a really specific tone of their relationship. like, it is more complicated than just "silly guy gives gordon a hard time and makes goofs", you know? i think that when most people look at their interactions this is all they see, b/c theyre watching Best Of compilations or the same few redrawn scenes or fanon "wacky found family" stuff. but the thing that is really compelling about benrey as an antagonist is that he is unpredictable, and more importantly, he is really fucking mean and unsettling when he wants to be

but Most importantly, that skit establishes that not only is he mean, not only is he unnerving, and not only is he prone to giving their interactions a sexual undercurrent, but that gordon is Willing To Reciprocate. its all fucking flustered laughter and play-fighting on his part! the skit deliberately plays up how fuckin creepy benrey is with the horror music sting and all that shit, but like, the reaction that gordon gives him is not one of somebody who is sick of his shit. it is of somebody who is Playing Along

given that this comes after the events of the payday stream, this makes sense. that stream, in my opinion, gave their relationship a lot of really fun developments: benreys a lot meaner now, having already had his heel turn, but hes not The Bad Guy(tm) anymore so the tone of his interactions with gordon is a lot more.....playful. light-hearted. gordon is no longer viewing his actions thru the lens of "This Is My Story-Mandated Antagonist who is hounding me for Villain Reasons", but more like, "this is a fellow player who i dont really care for". in particular, the bit with benrey chasing gordon with a knife really sells this. benreys not The Bad Guy anymore, so its not a big deal! its just jokes! laughs!

HOWEVER. in co-op game theory, the payday stream never happened! gordon went straight from the end of hlvrai to the beginning of hl2vrai. which means that i have to do all that relationship development my own dang self

and it has to be flavored differently, too, b/c the setting of the payday stream is a lot more fantastical and light-hearted and overtly video game-y. but in co-op game theory, i am making a pretty big fucking deal of the fact that gordons stuck in a grim setting with painful consequences. and ive been playing a lot with just how porous the barrier is between "this is just a game" and "this is a thing that feels real and has real consequences" that hlvrai itself sets up in act 3, what with the whole "getting his arm cut off" thing. in the payday stream, they just kind of get shot at over and over again to no effect, nothing really has any weight to it, its borderline dreamlike, and so that lends itself to interactions like "benrey chasing gordon with a knife" being given this really gay "teehee omg nooo stoppitttt" flavor.

but you cant get to the whole "chasing gordon with a knife is just a goofy and fun moment with his best frenemy" thing without establishing that, between gordon and benrey in this setting, the one in co-op game theory, the rules are different for those two. gordon getting shot by the bad guys hurts, here! it hurts real bad! but with benrey, it doesnt, because hes operating on purely video game rules. cartoon character rules. you can get that kind of dreamlike, cartoony shenanigan-style chemistry between them by making it so that, when benreys chasing him with the knife (metaphorical or literal) he is choosing to make the consequences go away.

[the cool and fun part about that, i think, is that in this setting we have now established that benrey can turn it off. if he wanted. so now theres that lingering undercurrent of "okay but what if this time its for real. what if he gets bored. what if he forgets that gordons just a guy for a little too long. whats keeping him from doing exactly that"]

between them, the kind of tom-and-jerry shit that would ordinarily put gordons life in very real danger no longer does, because benrey is setting a boundary, so to speak, that this is a game. a funny little game just for them. and so gordon can learn to Play Along. point A -> point B.

its not exactly a 1:1 imitation of what develops btwn them in the payday stream b/c this is a different fucking thing but now hopefully u see what i mean. This is an insane amount of words. Sorry

Roman's theatre friends visit and patton acts like a dad

this was the "milk" prompt for the ask game!

roman goes to a theatre club every monday evening - it's a community thing, nothing professional, but its a ton of fun and even though most of the time they just do silly improv skits, they can do more serious drama performances and are fairly well know at local theatres

and at one point they get an offer to perform somewhere in the community and they need somewhere to rehearse one night and (with prior warning to the fam) roman offers his house up

so on the first night that this group of ten adults all rehearsin in the living room, pat is actually really excited and wants to meet romans friends but logan is on patton duty trying to stop him from embarrassing roman hshsjs

(vee has a packed lunch and everything she might need in her room and none of the guests are allowed upstairs so she wont be nervous abt ppl)

but at some point i imagine patton wanting to say hello to his sons friends and logan drags him back and "pumpkin, i'm sorry but they're not actually your son's friends. They think theyre your nephews friends. and even then thats not true theyre just your friend's friends"

but patton brushes logan off and actually sneaks around preparing snacks and hurries past logan in the hallway - "patton what have you- patton get back here! Dont you dare bother them!" - and patton bounces into the living room and very happily and in true dad fashion asks "does anyone want milk and cookies? we have cows milk, oat milk or--"

but literally before patton can finish logan drags him out the room and frantically whispers at him that he's going to embarrass roman

meanwhile all the drama group friends are silent and a lil surprised and roman is blushing and grumpy that patton went dad on him in front of his cool drama friends! but then one person just speaks up RLLY disappointed "i kinda wanted a cookie..."

hdhdjs cut to lo and patt are arguing abt it in the hallway til their whispers trail off because they can hear the group all bickering roman to "go and do it!" "just do it we're hungry!" "come on roman!"

and roman suddenly stumbles out into the hallway as if he was pushed and the three of them make silent eye contact for an awkward moment

then roman goes ò///ó and snatches the plate of milk and cookies with a blush then goes back into rehearsal without another word
