I have a question for u

It is maybe a very cliché question but I am sincerely looking for the answer because it feels like most other people know it and just I don’t understand

So here we go: what differentiates love from friendship?

I can recognize friendship. All explanations given to me what others told me makes the distinction to loving someone (romantically?) didn’t make sense to me mostly because it always included some people that fall into the definition of friends

So yeah.. I’m having difficulty with relationships (apparently)

Personal opinion?

Friendship is love. Love is friendship. Kissing is friendship and holding hands is love. Sex is friendship and washing laundry is love.

I've had crushes on people I'd never want to date. I have friends I'd be comfortable kissing. I don't think I've ever been attracted to sexually, but there are people I think are beautiful who make my heart race. I don't know if I've ever felt romantic attraction, but there are people I want to spend my life with, and others I'd rather admire from a distance, and others I want nothing to do with.

I think that honestly, really, words like "Husband", "Wife", "Partner", "Friend", "Queerplatonic", "Soulmates", "Life Partner"... I think they're useful tools to describe specific experiences, more than they are rigid boxes to sort and divide our experiences into.

I'm not sure if I understand tge difference between platonic affection, aesthetic attraction, romance, and friendship, but I find my best relationships so far have been, "We like being around each other, and we work together to find what kind of intimacy we want from each other".

Sometimes that intimacy is physical, like kissing or sparring. Sometimes it's emotional, like sharing feelings. Sometimes it's just good, quiet company, or doing things together.

I can't speak for your own experiences, but in mine, idk. Just kinda letting things happen.

(It is hard when you feel lonely, though, and don't know how to describe to most of the world what it is you want.)

Long post, but uh. Same boat, I suppose?

Soap is everyone's partner best friend and it drives people and because he's super clingy about it. There's no place for Price to sleep in his own bed because Soap took his place between Nik and Phil and they let him because "he was tired and sad". Gaz came back from a mission and thought he will spend time with Roach but he can' t because Soap's already laying head on his lap, talking about whatever bullshit they're at now and Roach seems content enough about it. Laswell threatened to take every single phone in a base to her office because she can't ever call her wife because Soap's always on a phone with her with new rumors. Alejandro has to actually wait for his turns to dance with Rudy whenever Soap's around because he Rudy lets Soap steal him with a smile.

Price was starting to wish Soap and Graves never made up considering how the sergeant was always with him or Nik when Price had free time. He just wanted to relax with his boyfriend and husband but Soap was already wedged between them, a movie playing. Price had to wait for the movie to end just so he could cuddle his partners since Soap refused to leave without finishing the movie.

Gaz didn't think Soap hanging out with Roach was a problem until he came back to base after a long mission. He just finished debriefing everything that happened, showered and ate, and he just wanted to spend time with his boyfriend... Which he didn't get to do because Soap and Roach were reading some comics together. Gaz went to bed annoyed and frankly upset he didn't get to spend time with Roach after missing him for months.

Laswell originally had no issues with any of her boys having Annie's phone number. She was 'Homey Mom', which countered Laswell's 'Stern Mom'. But she started having a problem when never seemed to be able to talk to her wife while away from home because Soap was always on the damn phone with her. Laswell had so many messages from Annie telling her she was already on the phone with Johnny and couldn't talk at the moment.

Alejandro was already pretty touchy and generally jealous over Rudy. That was his amazing husband, his soulmate, the light of his existence, and fucking Soap was stealing all his attention! Alejandro was fuming when he saw them dancing at the bar, Rudy laughing as Soap twirled him around. Took a few Los Vaqueros to keep him from doing anything that he would've regretted.

It annoyed them all, bothered a couple. It was Alejandro who found a solution to it, being beyond angry with Soap for stealing all his husband’s attention. Soap had held Rudy’s hand for the last time because Alejandro went on the offensive.

As Soap leaned against Rudy, too close for Alejandro’s comfort, he would notice Ghost walk into the room. He sat up straight and went to call out to him, but then Alejandro swooped in from behind and wrapped his arms Ghost’s waist, resting his head on the man’s shoulder and grinning broadly. Soap just stared as Ghost and Alejandro talked. Everyone noticed Soap’s reaction, so, they naturally followed Alejandro’s lead.

And now Soap get almost no time with Ghost.

“Sorry, Johnny, Captain wants to go out drinking. No, you can’t tag along, it’s a high end club and he didn’t call ahead with a third wheel in mind.”

“Busy, Johnny. Kyle and I are going on a hike. You and Roach were suppose to go to that movie, why are you asking?"

“Laswell needs me for a few hours. Oh, you’ve been talking on the phone all day, you won’t even miss me.”

“No, I can’t. Alejandro is taking me out to eat. Some, what did he call it, five star restaurant? Supposedly good food but it’s expensive. I’m not missing out on that!”

Soap was finally getting a taste of his own medicine. And, unfortunately for him, Ghost was all too happy to go along with everyone’s plans. While he wasn’t bothered by Soap’s closeness with the others, he would prefer his boyfriend’s attention on him.

they are disgustingly platonic soulmates. like, they're steve and robin level horrendous. they will think and say the exact same things in the same phrasing at the same time and know what the other's thinking without saying anything

they both are weirdly physically connected. like, if eddie is nauseous because he didn't eat well nancy will immediately feel nauseous too and it is FREAKY. like, nancy will be hanging out with robin and be like "give me a minute" to text eddie if he's been eating recently and they would go "how tf did you sense it" and she responds with "telepathy pains, edmund. eat your fucking food"

nancy does not drink enough water. she'll forget for far too long and she doesn't like how it feels on her throat, but eddie can always tell when she hasn't been hydrating herself.

nancy has an immaculate gaydar, and eddie has the most horrendous gaydar known to mankind

nancy is always the one who fixes eddie's wounds. steve and hopper have both tried and failed, she is terrifyingly protective of wounded eddie

nobody but eddie cooks for her. she prefers to cook, even though she's not very good at it it gives her a sense of control, but she still feels in control when it's eddie doing the cooking (even though they're a horrendous cook)

when she and jonathan broke up, she cried into eddie's shirt for hours as he sat with her and let her let it out

nancy helps eddie graduate school! she's the only one who explained the concepts in a way that clicked in their brain

nancy plays dnd with eddie (and the rest of the spicy six) MUCH to mike's chagrin, but even worse, she's really good at it

like her and eddie are the best teammates ever, and it gives steve and robin a run for their money in syncronization

robin and eddie constantly argue who knows nancy better (eddie is in the lead, though to be fair if it was over steve robin would win)

not the touchiest of best friends, but do use an indescribable amount of pet names

eddie introduces nancy to her first queer experience. it was very one off and she was in love with robin but it was very helpful to her to have a queer experience with someone who didn't have all this history and emotion and care attached to them and was just casual

she went to eddie to cry after her and robin got together because the last time she felt like this was with barb

eddie was absolutely horrified to tell her he was gay. they were shaking, quiet, and overall just didn't look like themself, because losing nancy would be like losing a part of himself but not telling nancy would be hiding a part of themself.

nancy told eddie they were into steve, so that wasn't a reveal he had to attempt.

Platonic relationships, I feel like, are so underutilized in fiction and even more so in fan spaces. They're always put on the wayside in fan works, more commonly as a "last resort" when it comes to shipping. Like, romantic/sexual relationships always take first priority. Which isn't a bad thing, not at all! I just feel like they can be used more when it comes to talking about complex characters or ships that have a lot of discourse.

The whole concept of "this is someone I love and means the world to me" without the need for it to romantic is such a beautiful thing. Hell, platonic soulmates is sometimes done even better then just plain soulmates because it requires more build up. More understanding of one another beyond just attraction. You can love someone with all of your heart without having to be attracted to them. It's the companionship, the sustainability the "if I've got no one at least I have them" that makes them so special.

No characters pussyfooting around each other out of fear that they'll lose the other. They don't have to be around each other because the plot demands it or they're already dating. they just simply...enjoy it. They're there because they want to be. They fulfill a role in each other's life other than partner/husband/or wife.

In every lifetime they'll find each other. Because that's just what they do. They annoy each other, they always find each other first in a room full of people, they make their existence so much more important and their universe so much brighter. Why?

Because they're best friends. And they love each other.

Idk there's just so much you could do with that and I wish it was explored more. Like please! Write about them being buddies, write about one taking on a parental or sibling role in the others life, write about them annoying the absolute shit out of each other! Sometimes the lines blur on what is and what isn't romantic/platonic, but that's what makes it interesting! Depending on who they are, they can be comfortable with touch and still just be friends, or the opposite and still be friends. You know?

This isn't to discredit romantic/sexual ships in the slightest. It's just me wanting there to be more than just that. Cus don't get me wrong, I love them just as much as everyone else. I just thing it's a sweet dynamic to write about and check out. And for me, it simply fits better depending on the character and their relationship :3

Okay so the storyline of this au that wont exist <- [i am scared to let it] would be:

Lizzie is killed by her husband early on in their marriage. this is never shown but it is mentioned between the two of them. its known as the reason she is the shadow queen in the first place [which is later explained to be because dying and coming back means that they become shadow creatures]

Joel & Scar are partnered wizards, living on and within a mountain. Scar avoids Joel as much as he can, but they're so closely connected that they can never avoid it

Rendog becomes the shadow queen's right hand knight [and something else that neither of them manage to label] joining his soulmate, Bigb, and his partner, Cleo. Cleo and Bigb are the queen's advisors, telling her of how to deal with situations that come new to her after her death.

Another kingdom, the Southlands, is a land doomed from the start. Flimsy promises and trust that is sure to be broken, the lands are small and scarcely populated. The leaders are warriors more than rulers, and rarely attempt peaceful negotiations, other than among themselves.

House Moon is a small town lead by Pearl Moon and her husband, partner, best friend [but never lover,] Scott Moon. The town belongs only to itself, but has been through many rulers through its existence.

Magic Mountain, as it's been called, has been the holder of the magic for a hundred or so years. Through negotiations with House Moon [and a team of spies/thieves they have access to], the Shadow Queen comes into possession of the magic of magic mountain. Her kingdom has been wanting it for the past decade, and so have already created a spot for it to go.

The Shadow Queen is not made for the magic. It corrupts, especially for those of whom are no longer human. When a small group of men come to steal it [there are four of them, and she recognizes them as the thieves House Moon hires], she turns a blind eye.

The corruption does not stop with the lack of magic in the kingdom. Something burns under her skin, and it needs out. She calls the heads of House Moon to her palace for an audience. Lady Pearl takes the floor, and the Shadow queen sends her knight to distract Lord Scott. The Queen takes Lady Pearl's hand, and over the soft sound of waltz music and the swaying of their feet, they talk. Not that it matters, of course, because in the end, the Queen sinks her teeth into Pearl's neck, and her knight and Lord Scott rush back into the throne room before she can hide the evidence.

Tension rises in the Southlands, when war seems to breach their walls, weapon raised by some invisible enemy. Perhaps, they think, perhaps, the enemy comes from within.

Joel, wizard of magic mountain, and corrupted by being the holder of the magic for 100 years, has urges to cause destruction that he can’t help. Unlike his wife, he doesn’t require people’s souls, exactly, but causing them harm is good enough, for now. He has a certain amount of magic left in him, and he uses it to cloak himself in invisibility potions and spells.

Bigb, friend of Cleo for a long, long, time, appears more affected by the magic as well - not as much as the queen, but more than either Cleo or Ren.

Cleo doesn’t expect it. They are friends. Lovers, maybe. Bigb hasn’t acted as himself for a while now, but she recognizes that he needs his space. And then he requests a walk in the gardens by the queen’s tower, and she will not refuse him this. They get to the middle of the garden, and what he takes from her isn’t her life, but her soul. He uses magic that isn’t his and pulls her soul right out of her body, pressing it to his chest hungrily. He is desperate. She’s something edging on dead.

Cleo takes the time to plead her case to the Queen. It ends in the Queen hissing that she knew she could never trust her. And so Cleo goes to the one person she thinks will understand: Lord Scott Moon, who has lost much to the fairy forest as well.

Lord Martyn of the Southlands strikes an under the table deal with the knight of the fairy forest. In the darkness of the night and the deepness of the dungeon, they meet to exchange information. Ren gains significantly more of this deal, but that’s alright. Martyn wants to join Ren in the fairy forest anyway.

[Or, at least, be wherever he is.]

The southlands are falling apart anyway. Martyn is basically gone already, and Lord Grian was banished, and Lord Impulse has disappeared. Lords Mumbo and Jimmy remain, but they are not strong enough to hold the fort alone. The southlands are broken in all but writing.

Elsewhere, Scott and Cleo devise a plan. Scott is not made for fighting, but he knows where to get supplies and information. Cleo has worked magic before. Between the two of them, they come up with a plan to kill the queen of the fairy forest. All it takes is a bit of time, then a bit of magic, and then a bit of luring.

[She always was a little too attuned to the fires of her forest.]

Closer, Cleo waits. Closer, closer. Bigb is keeping Ren back. Good for him. But just staying back isn’t going to be enough. Cleo smiles from atop her tree, then drops a crystal, letting it turn into flames halfway down, then explode in front of the Queen’s eyes. Bushes nearby explode into sticks, and Cleo can’t even hold in the beginning of her cackle when she sees how BigB sends some of the shrapnel into Ren’s leg. The laugh becomes more maniac as it continues, and Cleo jumps down from the tree before the Queen can recover.

Good timing, she supposes. She holds onto another fire crystal and presses it against the Queen’s neck, squeezing it there. She’s burning. Burning. She deserves this.

Elsewhere, a small group of four has quickly disbanded. The betrayal of one, the death of another, and then the BEST team becomes BET. And it becomes ever smaller from there, as Tango leaves entirely. He runs to the crumbling Southlands, because he’s not sure there’s anywhere else to go.

On the flip side, one of the Southlands meets with the B of BEST, and something blooms. Impluse has been living with Bdubs and Etho, recently, but, well, three seems to be a crowd, and Etho’s divorced himself from Bdubs already. He leaves.

The Shadow Queen is gone. Ren waits in a small home that he and Bigb are meant to live in [but haven’t for years], and heals there.

The shadow queen is gone, but not for long.

She returns, from the inky shadow of a flower, and calls for her revenge. Not from Ren, of course. He was a good knight. But Bigb… No. She twirls magic in her hands, and explodes it in his chest. Ren, from the window, only watches. Bigb dies, and this is the only way this was going to end. The Shadow Queen smiles up at him and tells him that she will see him again. He doesn’t know if this is a threat or a promise.

A week later, Lord Martyn, who is not Lord Martyn anymore, shows up on his doorstep.

“I found something,” Martyn says. “I- uh. Well, take a look at her.” He moves to the side and there stands-

“Hi,” the woman made of shadow says. She has a tattered cloak of red, and a three headed dog beside her. “I’m Pearl Moon. I think my husband wants to kill me.”

I’m curious about your thoughts on that moment you mentioned in Chimera. I’ve never been able to parse it myself and would love to know how you interpret it!

I love that moment because it's so deliciously ambiguous on purpose. When someone says "significant other," they usually mean boyfriend, girlfriend, or general romantic partner that may be a little more permanent than the previous terms imply, but not yet to the point of fiancé/e, husband/wife, etc.

You can see Mulder's face at that moment thinking about Scully. She's not his "girlfriend," their relationship is still kind of secret and special, just between them, so it's not (yet) like "life partner." How does one describe the crushing ache of soulmates (who are or have recently been actively trying to have a baby together) who have to hold each other at arms' length in public?

I'm a firm believer in the season of secret sex, so they're more than partners and friends... but of course they're not the "widely understood definition" of significant others either. But you KNOW he's talking about her. If some blind noromo (or CC) wants to interpret the line as "best friends" or something, it's open to that interpretation--but to me it's obviously so much more than that.

This is an extra special holiday for the royal and his fiancée, as it marks their first Valentine's Day as an engaged couple. During an interview with BBC News last November, the two were all smiles while recalling how they first met, and how Prince Harry ultimately popped the question.

"I'd never watched Suits, I'd never heard of Meghan before, and I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her [for the first time]," he said of their first meeting, which was a blind date set up by one of their mutual friends. ET caught up with the "All of Me" singer late last month, where he opened up about expanding their little family. The two are already parents to a 1-year-old daughter, Luna. "I'm very much in love with my wife and my daughter," he shared. "So, if the next baby has any of their characteristics, I'll be very happy."

Last but definitely not least, a couple that's kept their love alive for over a decade! Nicole and Keith are never shy about packing on the PDA, always looking head-over-heels in love whether they're just casually out in public or all dressed up and posing for pictures on the red carpet. 

But behind the scenes, their bond is even stronger. "Keith always says to me, 'You stay raw and sensitive, and I'll buffer things for you,' which is a beautiful offering," the Oscar winner recently explained in her Glamour magazine interview. "He is always told, 'You're so tough,' and he says, 'That’s not what I want for you, Nicole. You don't need to get a thick skin.'"

"I think for me, it's about having a place that's safe to nurture you, where the tears can be shed," she added. "That way I can actually go back open and curious and willing. And at times scarred and a little damaged."
