for the rose festival by @offorestsongs here is Yumi's card, it was one of the ones I liked the most so far compared to her old cards so she is SSR
Ocs mentioned in this post Marina and Dione (my ocs) Rosienne from @offorestsongs and Astrid from @cheerleaderman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Summoned: a festival to celebrate the love of the princess who broke the curse of the beast prince, this sounds quite romantic
Summon Lin: roses of all colors and sizes, I didn't know there was such a variety of flowers, is that a Blue Rose?
Groooovy!!: [blocked]
Home: I've always liked roses, they're very pretty, but they're not my favorite flowers, I prefer spider lilies, but roses are very pretty, but be careful, every rose has thorns
Home idle 1 : I made my dress myself, Marina and Dione helped me pick some roses, and they used magic to change their hue so I could use it as decoration on my dress.
Home idle 2: Don't worry, I'm not drinking alcohol, unfortunately I can't drink alcoholic beverages, it's apple juice, from Felmier Farm, do you want some?
Home idle 3 : a dance, it looks fun, I need to see if I can find a date, but if I can't I'll just watch from somewhere
Home idle- login: I'm thinking about visiting the palace gardens, they said it's stunning, would you like to come with me?
Home tap 1: I was happy that Rosienne invited me to this festival, this is so much fun
Home tap 2: the outfit Rosienne was wearing is stunning, It suited him very well
Home tap 3: As I walked through the garden enjoying the beautiful scenery, I ended up meeting someone so stunning that I thought she was a spring fairy, but in reality it was Astrid.
Home tap 4: That dress looks so beautiful on Astrid, he looks like a spring fairy, or a rose turned human, it's completely stunning
Home tap 5: I ended up getting a lot of inspiration for new drawings, Rosienne and Astrid were great muses for my new drawings, later I'll show them, to see their opinions on the looks I designed inspired by them
Home tap-groovy: [Bloqueado]

This was a really fun event to participate in, drawing dresses, especially period ones, is really hard so I apologize if it didn't turn out very well.
the hands and the cup were taken from Yan based on Ibis Paint, as I couldn't do it right
Below is a slightly better version of the dress for you to see better, there is also the paper version

Well, that's it, thank you for reading this far, and see you next time

Leap Slam L8 with Jagged Ground
Content: Dreadnought and Jamanra
I think the title sets up all you need to know.
This was my first real bottleneck in the game. After clearing the Dreadnought with what felt like consistent difficulty for what I'd previously faced, I struggled against Jamanra quite a lot.
As I said in the previous log, I've begun to feel strain in upgrading my loot. Today I started by spending a lot of money on gambling, and continued to do so as I farmed. But when facing Jamanra, it just felt like I couldn't do any damage. Armour breaking into slams, layering fissures under him, armour breaking, layering fissures, and slamming. I just kept finding myself running out of mana flask charges. And I didn't feel like I had any tools to fix it. I'd already converted some of my costs to life. I'd been grabbing and transmuting every mana flask I could. I'd been scrapping socketed gear to maybe put a Mind Rune in a decent weapon.
But it still felt like the true problem was damage. And I ended up being able to fix that problem first. Two further clears through Dreadnought Vanguard, each with a few fights to see what progress I was making, and I upgraded my two-hander and grabbed some more melee damage off the tree. With that I could finally deal damage after getting a stun.
My opinion of the fight is almost certainly tinted by the fact that it took so many tries and so much farming to beat him. I do believe the fight is probably overtuned. But I also know some changes are coming which might improve loot. I'll need to see how he feels on my next character. But my current feel is that he doesn't feel as impressive or dynamic as the fight with Geonore. Though I did enjoy the claustrophobic feeling as his abilities closed in during the final phase. When he began opening up those fiery gates, that was genuinely cool! It was also a really badass moment when he cleaved through the Dreadnought.
And while we're still talking about cool things, that design on The Beast is fantastic!
My next criticism is that his minions feel cheap. They killed me during my first run and I had no clue what happened. Then they did massive damage to me in my second run, and I still didn't know what was going on. The way they hide in the sandstorm, they're a complete surprise. They don't feel telegraphed and they're hard to spot until they're on you. Then it's incredibly hard to see their animation, even behind Asala's shield, when they explode on death. It just looks like you kill them, then you take a ton of damage. It's true that after three sandstorms through my second run, I was onto them. But to me that's at least two too many. I should have been able to see and figure out what they were doing when they killed me the first time. You can't learn from a mechanic if you can't see it.
Other than that, the mechanics were well telegraphed and felt fun. I kinda gotta kick out of dancing with his spires during the attack where he manipulates them directly. It's too bad Asala can't seem to do anything too him while he's standing there like that. Some of his attacks in the second phase feel a little like Shaper balls, and I quickly started guiding where they'd hit so I'd have a safe spot to duel him.
There is a lot of good in this fight! But I can't help but feel a little disappointed.
Still! It's said that you want your opening and your ending to be your high points! Duriel was the worst boss in Diablo 2, after all. And this is also a desert Act.
Actually I have noticed what feels like more than a few homages here. On the whole, there was a lot of Act 2 that made me feel a little nostalgic. I still think this was a better Act on the whole then Act 1 was.
Though I get the feeling the finale of the act was supposed to be more. Asala talks about addressing her Akhara. I hope that's something intended to be present in the final version of the game. I also hope there will be more dialogue you can find for the various locations you visit. I found myself wanting to know more about the lore of this area, and I hope we revisit it in some form in the future.

Coming Home
Namor x female!reader
Word count:0.9k
Warnings:none
Summary: after waiting what felt like an eternity, your Lover finally returns to you...
Masterlist
Tumblr media
I let my feet dangle from the porch, as the sun slowly started to set. A necklace was resting between my fingers, a necklace he had given me. And I hadn't seen him since. He promised to return and yet, here I sat, waiting and waiting for him.
With a sigh, I pushed myself to my feet. I was probably overthinking. He was a busy man, he had an entire city to protect after all. And I admired him for that. He loved his people with such passion, it was honorable.
My eyes lingered on the ocean, before I turned around to look at my little cottage. He had helped me build it. Him and Namora and Attuma. I always remembered it with a smile. How Namora had helped me with the interior design and how Attuma had to flex every second about how much material he could carry and how fast he assembled things. Namor had always scolded him for that, but I was thankful. Without them, it wouldn't have been possible for me to live this near the ocean. It wouldn't been possible to see Namor frequently.
And now, I hadn't seen him in weeks. On the news they were always talking about Wakanda. They were mourning they're recently lost queen. They didn't say what she died from, but I had a feeling that my Lover was somehow involved in this conflict.
The sound of the waves crashing against the shores interrupted my train of thoughts and I quickly spinned around. I couldn't believe my eyes. Speaking of the devil, there he was. Just standing there inbetween the waves, looking at me. As I noticed the faint scratch marks on his face, I knew that he somehow got involved with Wakanda.
I quickly made my way towards him, stepping into the water and wading towards him.
"Namor", I said, as soon as I reached him.
He only smiled and raised his hand to my face:"In yakunaj (My Love)"
I couldn't help myself as a sob escaped my lips. I threw my arms around him, pulling him close. I heard Namor laugh, as he wrapped his arms around my midddle, spinning us around.
"I missed you", he smiled.
"I missed you too!", I yelled as he stumbled and we fell into the water.
I chuckled as he helped me sit up. The water wasn't deep, it was only up to our waists. I took the moment to inspect his face. He was grinning at me. I saw Love and Joy in his eyes. But my gaze wandered down to the marks on his cheek and lifted my hand to softly touch the healing skin. Namor closed his eyes at my touch.
"Who did this to you?", I asked quietly. Namor sighed and raised his hand. He closed his fingers around my wrist and pulled my hand down into his.
"It doesn't matter", he said,"What matters is, that I returned to you."
"What about Attuma?", I asked,"And Namora? Are they okay?"
Namor smiled about my questions. I knew that he had always adored the fact that I cared so much about his people.
"They are fine.", He finally said.
I sighed relieved and slightly squeezed his hand:"Thank you for returning to me. These times must be hard for the people of Talokan. It's probably not easy to find some free time."
"I will always return to you, In reina(my Queen).",he smiled and leaned his forehead against mine,"I will always come home"
I looked at him perplexed:"Talokan is your-"
Namor chuckled and interrupted me with a quick peck on my lips.
"Home is not the Place where I reside, Jats'uts(beautiful), It's the people that I love. And you are one of them."
I couldn't believe my ears. I was too stunned to speak, I just looked at him with my mouth agape.
"You are my home", He mumbled with a smile. His hand rested on my chin, as he pulled me closer,"And I will always come back to you."
I looked at him, Adoration in my eyes, while tears rolled down my cheeks.
"No one has ever said something like this before...",I mumbled,"I have never met someone like you before, Namor...K'uk'ulkan."
His gaze softened upon hearing his birthname. and I felt him pull me closer to him.
"You are my everything", I finally said,"I love you."
"I love you", Namor mumbled, as he softly wiped away my tears,"More than anything"
"The sun's going down", I said after we sat in silence for a few minutes, just holding each other.
"We should go inside", Namor agreed. I yelped, as he suddenly lifted me up bridal style. My arms wrapped aound his neck, as he started to walk towards the cottage.
"You know, I could've walked myself", I smiled, as he climbed the stairs of the porch.
"Isn't there this tradition?",he only asked.
I furrowed my eyebrows:"What tradition?"
He only smiled, as he kicked the door opened with his foot and carried me over the doorstep.
"Oh, That Tradition."

"Comfort characters are a special are a special breed of characters to me. They're the ones that make any day better, that make me laugh openly, that make me fall in love with their personality. One of the characters that I rely on for comfort that 90% of my friends identify with me is Denki Kaminari."
Soo me talking about my love of this character is really nothing new. I've done it a couple of times on my blog defending his character in the series canon. I want to do something more specific with this one though. I want to talk about what I look for in a comfort character and why Kaminari is my favorite comfort character in all of anime.
In order for me to find comfort in anything, it has to make me laugh. That's just the way that my brain works. If something makes me laugh I'll automatically love it forever. There is just something so heartwarming about idiots that can make me laugh. I get into the way that they're usually drawn happy, cute, and smiling or with adorable facial expressions. To me, most of the facial expressions that I love on the show are given to Denki my baby. I love so many of his faces that can either be moods or just be so adorably sweet. The first time that went stunned stupid I laughed so hard that I cried for a solid two minutes afterwards. It's my favorite running joke in the entire show. Getting to see that cheaply drawn face followed by Kyle Phillips adorable "yeh's" never fail to make me laugh.
The comfort character's personality is another huge thing for me. They have to be lovable, sometimes flirty, sometimes just plain happy, and I have to be able to want to hang out with them if I was a character in the show. Most of my friends tease me that I'd either date Denki or just be his best friend because I just love him that much. There was something in that bright smile and precious nature that drew me in automatically. While my favorite comfort characters are debatable between him and Sero and for comfort character month I eventually chose Tape Spider-Man that was only because I couldn't get the Denki edit to work with me otherwise he would've been in that slot. To me, Denki is just so full of life. He's everything that's good and pure in the show for the most part. He's what keeps me coming back for more as the seasons go on despite the fact that sometimes I take long breaks.
Comfort characters are something that is so important to me. Denki is something that I wanted to spend the day with. This is where I'm going to defend him against the critics. I really, really hate the toxic MHA fans out there. I've interacted with a good chunk of them over the years because of my love of my favorite lightning goofball. There was something unique about his personality that combined with his character design. When I first saw him he both made me laugh and smile within a matter of a few minutes. He became such an important to my life from that first cute and sweet sentence. There is just something inside of me that loves goofballs. This has always been the case for me ever since I was a kid. They compel me to fall even deeper in love with them every time that I see them. It's why my Haikyuu obsession was so disastrous and lethal to my health. Goofballs became such a big part of how I defined myself as a person. They're the type that I always tell people that I fawn over the most above all else. I think that they also helped me come into my own as a woman in a funny way. They became one of the things that I relied on the most. My crutch away from the rest of the world. Denki Kaminari became one of my best friends over the last four years that I've been watching My Hero Academia. I don't know where I would be without his impact on my life.

Fable IV rant:
I'm so pumped up for the 23rd because everything has led me to believe that Fable 4 will be announced this year and the game's existence has been confirmed for a while anyway it's just a matter of time of when will Fable 4 show itself. It's a badly kept secret tbh.
So to those who don't mind a big rant or wish to add on to my rant- here we go!
Can you imagine how good the graphics would be for this game, we've all seen modern games, surely, and they're all bloody fantastic looking. Fable Legends is technically the most recent Fable game despite it being a free to play online game
and that it's cancelled
but it also had a gorgeous look to it all! And the character models did great justice to the concept art and honestly that has my hopes real high because I love the concept art of Fable, specifically from Mike McCarthy, so exaggerated and recognisable- yet in all the games I can confidently say they did not do justice to his character design, specifically for Reaver. Sure, he looks stunning in the third game, but not quite what he looks like in his concept art sadly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also, since Fable was made in Unreal Engine (I'm pretty sure at least) we've seen examples of what can be done in Unreal Engine now and it's absolutely breath taking!
If you haven't seen here are some examples and they're so life-like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on from graphics!
Since Playground Games is behind the development of Fable 4, they would be spectacular at an open spaced world, judging from the Forza games.
I always loved the open world feature added to Fable, it made things more adventurous and you could do so many things that weren't at all related to the main quest to progress the story and it was just thrilling to see there were other things going on! I'd love to just have my dog companion running through fields, fighting enemies left and right and finding buried treasure or forgotten chests.
Run into strangers who request aid in something silly or rather serious and it would be up to you with how you go about the quest or if you even accept it to get renown or gold. Cause a massacre in towns and villages, running off with low morality and plentiful loot- oh one could fantasise of this all day.
Story, characters, writing and voices.
Fable has always had a fun environment of fantasy and a rather good story (despite the curse of mundane or pathetic boss fights in which I hope Fable 4 breaks this cycle) but the one thing that's always kept me on my feet in the games is the writing and the characters. It always just tried not to take itself too seriously, throwing in absurd quests that probably requires cheese or a really weird-looking outfit. It always kept my attention rather than just pure edge and seriousness of life or death.
The characters are a given, the writing done for them all is perfect in my eyes, I love hearing the variations of how characters of NPCs interacted (enough so that I even bought two of the Fable books written by Peter David). Despite Fable 3 not being the greatest at it's time, I found myself absolutely enjoy the characters for how they were- I even cried over Walter's death because it genuinely felt like I lost somebody pretty close (RIP Walter🙏). The writing and the chosen voice actors were superb and I'd love more of it.
I hope this time we can receive a full story instead of how Fable 2 and 3 were where plenty of plot points and such were cut out due to time constraints- thanks Microsoft, very cool. I'm still in anguish when listening to the Developer's Diary 3 of Fable 3 hearing lines that were just never said in the final product and it was definitely not just additional lines that weren't required as it seemed to mention entirely different things that weren't in the game; i.e. Reaver talks about his pirates in Bloodstone and how he misses them- in the final product he never mentions it and it's even shown that he's tried to completely bury his pirate past for whatever reason.
The pacing in Fable 3 was rather strange too, it felt like the revolution should've lasted longer.
Another hope of mine is to have choices that aren't so painfully black-and-white because it's very obvious which is the good or bad option to a scenario- personally for me I'd like to be morally grey rather than pure good or pure evil.
They better have kept the mechanic of your actions affecting your appearance too to the point where you grow horns and get cracked magma-like skin or this slight glow and aura around you and this flawless skin. It kind of died down in Fable 3, only looking more tired or have completely black eyes and the good- eh yeah not much I can say for when you're good. Purity and corruption seemed to also vanish in Fable 3 (at least I think) since you couldn't really change prices of the homes you were renting out, unless I've been a big goof who didn't arrange the rent prices in the game because I didn't know how.
Combat
Combat in all the games was rather straight forward, especially in Fable 2 and 3 where everything was just easy to beat or you could get overpowered around the start of the game. I'd hope the combat improves greatly this time and even bring back real consequences to dying instead of immediate revival with some lost experience and a scar. We need more serious consequences to your actions (this can be applied to all decisions rather than just if you die in a battle) even if it's just having to reload the last checkpoint. Makes things more challenging this way.
Another thing is to make boss fights less repetitive and simple- sure I can forgive it if the boss is from around the start but if they had phases you had to keep ontop of and didn't rely on summoning a bajillion other enemies to strike you, I'd be ever so grateful.
And if there's other characters fighting along side you, I'd hope they'd genuinely be helpful and keep up to speed with the player. I'm sure the AI in the past was the problem for this as AI wasn't at its best during that time so characters fighting by you didn't do too much or just did whatever that wasn't helpful. Now though, AI has improved immensely (I mean look at The Last Of Us 2, the AI is👌) and due to this, I'm sure characters would make battles more fun and the characters be more involved with the fight and even story.
Mana should be brought back as well, in Fable 2 and 3 mana just ceased to exist so you could just endlessly and repeatedly use the same spells and it just gave you too much power and the enemies barely stood a chance.
We need challenges people- CHALLENGES!
Medieval times? Yes.
I love Medieval fantasy and as much as I like the Victorian era too, I didn't think it quite suited Fable, as fascinating as it was to see fantasy turn industrial, it kind of took away from the Fable feel that I so crave. If they have indeed brought the game back to medieval times it means more creatures and enemies are back rather than driven away or limited to the same handful of enemies.
We can all also agree the guns were overpowered, though I did like receiving the Red Dragon late in Fable 2 to absolutely mow down enemies, it was satisfying to say the least. However, guns were far too powerful for the game, so I demand the bows and crossbows back thank you very much- or even throwing knives- I'll take what I'm given.
I'd love to see more of the natural landscape rather than towns or buildings that took over once entirely natural areas (Millfields/Bowerlake). However, I won't object to ruins of old buildings taken over by nature.
Skeptical with Playground Games? Don't be.
Are you worried that Playground Games wouldn't do justice to Fable since it's not Lionhead Studios? Don't be, it's been noted that Playground Games has hired several ex-lionhead workers and plenty other skillful workers to ensure we get the best product. I have high hopes and expectations for Fable 4 even if it's developed under a different studio, I've seen great things from them and I will believe they'll deliver us only the best.
Side note to all this
I will crash and burn if I don't see a crumb of Reaver or Jack of Blades in Fable 4- I don't know how true any rumours are of Fable 4 with time travelling and Jack returning, but we'll just have to see. Reaver still remains as my absolute favourite character of all time and I'd love to see more of him, even see him before he was 'Reaver'.
Jack too, more of his lore is stated elsewhere rather than in the game itself and I'd love to see it all be brought into light and really expand on his lore and make it known- rather than have ever-loving Fable fans like me dig around for these rather delicious bits of canon information.
That's my big rant, feel free to share your thoughts and what you'd look forward to!
Have some accidental art leaks from a Playground Game concept artist- believed to be for Fable 4👀

Neil's POV
July
The more time I spent talking to Katrina, the more I started to find myself again. My moments of darkness, of pain and anger, lessened and gave way for the real me to come back. The version of me before the war, when all I wanted in life was the perfect family. Sometimes, when I let Katrina have control of her body, I'd find myself dreaming of what could have been. What should have been.
A quaint home with a picket fence, two kids playing in the yard and Olivia and I lounging in the shade close by. Our little boy had the same shining, golden curls as Olivia but with my sharp features and blue eyes, a stunning little boy. He was obsessed with his little sister, never leaving her side and letting her hang off him even though she wasn't much smaller than he was. Our little girl was beautiful, with my dark wavy hair and Olivia's bright green eyes. She was always hanging on to one of us with a bright smile, her giggle twinkling through the air.
It was almost perfect, this little world I'd built, except I wanted the real Olivia. I needed my actual Olivia, my love.
I opened my eyes to find myself face to face with Katrina. We were in the room I'd designed for us, with the fireplace crackling and casting dancing shadows across her face.
"You're back..that was quick," I murmured.
We'd been spending a great deal of time together here when her body was resting. Sharing her body, both of us taking turns controlling it while the other waited in her mind. We spent enough time together that Katrina had begun to trust me again, had gotten close to me again.
She smiled tightly, "it's late. And nobody could come see me today...What were you dreaming of?"
"I wasn't."
"I could feel it. You were happy."
I sighed and smiled at her, "nothing gets past you, pet."
"We're connected," she repeated what I always said to her.
I smirked, leading her to sit near the fire, "I was thinking of what could have been."
"If you hadn't died?"
"If I hadn't gone to war. If I'd stayed and been a proper husband."
Her fingers splayed over mine, soft and warm, "do you miss her?"
"Yes," I confessed.
Katrina was quiet as she leaned lightly into my shoulder. We stayed like that for a moment before I had an idea.
"I have something to ask of you, my pet."
She hummed, moving to look up at me from where she lied against my side.
"Olivia..do you think you can get her to see me?"
"I'm not sure...I saw her a little bit when I was healing but Ally said you keep them away. I haven't seen anyone since you came back."
"I'll let them come."
She was quiet for a moment before murmuring, "why?"
"You want me to be happy, right?"
"Yes," she whispered, tucking her face back down to my shoulder.
"Good," I smiled, stretching to kiss the top of her head lightly before settling back and wrapping my arm around her.
--
"Katrina..."
She looked over at the small mirror in her room to see me. She hadn't come back to me for a few days now, avoiding me as she toiled over what I'd asked her to do.
"Talk to me."
She sighed, setting the book down she'd been reading before answering, "I don't know if it's a good idea. Billy and Audrey are still trying to find a way to help me."
"Pet...take a look around. I'm the only one who hasn't walked out on you. They've left you locked down here by yourself for weeks. There's no way to seperate us and they're scared of you. They've given up on you."
I saw the tears pooling in her eyes when she got up to cross the room and turn the mirror over so she couldn't see me anymore.
"I'm here," I murmured before retreating and leaving her in her own thoughts.
--
I was wrapped up with Olivia on a plush couch, lounging with the kids and watching a movie. Our kids were older this time, practically adults now. They were complete opposites, like the sun and moon. He was all broad shoulders and bronze skin where she was pale and slender. She was lying across his lap and suddenly jolted up, though I was the only one who reacted.
"Neil?"
I sat up to look at her, "yes?"
"Neil?" She cried, tears streaming down her cheeks, "Neil!"
I was suddenly pulled from my dream and was staring at Katrina. Staring into her shimmering eyes, one bright green, the other stormy blue.
Her face was red and splotchy, tears pouring down like rivers. When she saw me, she collapsed, fingers twisting in my shirt as she sobbed into my chest. It took me a moment to get past my shock and lock my arms around her back.
"Hey," I soothed, "what happened, pet? Talk to me."
She sniffled a few times before whispering, "I'll do it."
"What?"
"I'll let Olivia in."
I smiled and rested my cheek on the top of her head, "thank you...what changed your mind?"
"You were right, nobody cares about me..."
"I care, pet...I care."
Katrina's POV
Nobody could come visit me this weekend. It was supposed to be Steve's turn since Billy had to work but he'd been called into work last minute, leaving me alone. Locked in this room in the basement by myself. Again. It's happened a few times now, but this time I'd convinced Riley to leave me my phone.
Now it's three in the morning, and I've tried calling Billy and Steve multiple times. But they weren't answering, I was truly alone.
"Will you please pick up the fucking phone?" I left another voice-mail on Billy's phone, barely holding myself together until I hung up.
I curled into myself on the bed, hot tears stinging my cheeks and hard sobs wracking my chest. They really have given up on me. I'm just a problem to be sent away and locked up. Out of sight, out of mind.
I made up my mind.
I sank into the inner world that Neil and I shared, into the room with the fireplace. But he wasn't here.
"Neil?" I yelled.
Nothing. I started crying, calling for him again and again until finally, he was in front of me. The only one who was always there for me. I could do this for him, if it helped him the same way he helped me.
"I'll do it."

Conversation
During a late-night jam session with Peter Potamus' diving crew at their base of operations
(Which, know, is a beachhouse colony along the Pacific coast of Southern California, somewhere between San Diego and Los Angeles, well off I-5 as a matter of fact. And it's during one of those convocations of Peter Potamus' divers which are basically a mix of MeetUp and refresher course to review diving techniques and try out new dive gear.
(As the session opens, our intrepid group is seated at the fire alongside the Pacific's shore as the tide sweeps in....)
PETER POTAMUS, getting to the highlight of the session: I thought you might all find fascinating a rather interesting bit of Polynesian lore which I came across during one of my recent sojourns to the isolated parts of Polynesia--as in a Polynesia of sheer wonder and fascination made even more interesting by the natives wearing pretty much themselves, and liking it!
MILDEW WOLF, somewhat stunned by that revelation: Actually, Peter means the natives are naked!
PETER POTAMUS: Mildew made a good point there, if a bit on the snarky side; yes, nakedness IS a commonplace with these same Polynesians ... but it's mainly driven by tradition as much as comfort. And it's especially true when they're diving, swimming with dolphins or even surfing ... they just can't help but feel so natural in their nakedness!
SQUIDDLY DIDDLY, somewhat observant: I should say so myself!
PETER POTAMUS: Which, you might say, is the point of the story I'm about to relate. It's a story I picked up during one of my visits to Hidden Polynesia, and was related to me by a crown prince of their King--who, I have to admit, was rather young for his age, but related it in such a way as piqued my interest!
HIS FELLOW DIVERS: [Ad-libbed shouts of "Do tell! Do tell!", for the most part]
PETER POTAMUS: What's amazing about this story is that this involves a princess of a nearby archipelagic kingdom with whom that particular such had a close relationship ... and that such was when this particular princess was in a Polynesian sort of a "tomboy" state, willing to take on male challenges even though she was female! She was roughly ten or eleven years of age, and for some reason, the king of those particular islands called for this princess to see him coming out of her sleep one morning.
MAGILLA GORILLA, munching away on a banana: So what exactly did the king want with her, to begin with Peter?
PETER POTAMUS, continuing: I was about to get to that ... at any rate, this particular king, who was getting rather on in years, called upon the princess to undergo some tests to prove herself worthy of her presence and position, tests of established native tradition among especially the royalty and chieftains ... and among the tests she had to undertake was one of riding in some rather extreme waves to shore on a "native" surfboard ... and I mean a surfboard of koa wood, perhaps the finest surfboard material known to Hidden Polynesia--and traditionally reserved for the nobility!
MILDEW WOLF, again with snark: Were there other tests this princess had to go through to, uh, prove herself?
PETER POTAMUS: Another one she had to undergo was her diving to the depths of The Blue Lagoon, which was something like 30 feet, in the company of sharks as much as dolphins ... and wearing herself as well! And at any rate, His Majesty called upon this princess to tell her that such was the day she was to undergo such tests of her worthiness, this having been revealed by his astrologers and kahuna some time beforehand!
HARDY HAR-HAR, ever the pessimist (even with Lippy the Lion): Well, how did it come out exactly?
PETER POTAMUS: Hardy, I was about to get to that ... following a number of ritual prayers and blessings, our princess took to the waters of The Blue Lagoon for the diving part of her test. To dive down among sharks as much as dolphins, and not show any fear or cowardice--and, of course, naked besides! Following some ritual deep breaths in the shallows of the Lagoon, which she was to rely on throughout, our princess dived in ... and dive in she did, sensing the presence of a coral reef close to the bottom as was undergoing a mix of decay as much as renewal! And as she dove deeper and deeper, gradually sensing the sensation of her body vis-a-vis the lagoon's waters, she couldn't help but sense the presence of a number of reef sharks close to hand, not to mention makos and hammerheads ... as well as a pod of dolphins not that far off as she approached bottom, where she was to briefly sit cross-legged and meditate without fear as such sharks passed by, some rather close to her ... and for some reason, one blue shark came wonderfully close to the princess' body, gently rubbing each other close as she was preparing to make her ascent. And yet, you had to picture just how it was possible for her to actually handle a shark in the same way natives would handle a dolphin while swimming with them in such wonderful closeness?
HIS FELLOW DIVERS: [Ad-libbed remarks of admiration and disbelief as to how such could be pulled off]
PETER POTAMUS, continuing the tale: What wonderfully graceful moves did she make for her age underwater as she did with a shark! And what a feeling such must have been in her Polynesian nakedness!
WALLY GATOR, intrigued as pretty much everybody else: And yet not manage to have been eaten by those sharks, don't you know! So where was this surfing-related test?
PETER POTAMUS: As for the surfing part of her test to prove her place, once she recovered from the dive, our princess was taken by outrigger canoe to an outer break off a rather modest island fronting upon a reef whose waves were not only rather substantial, but were traditionally reserved for the nobility ... and at a designated point, the canoe came to a standstill, whence the board was placed into the water, followed by the princess boarding same. Within a few minutes, the break came along--the signal for her to go into the "duck dive" to enter the wave from underwater. It may have been a little hesitant at first, but boy, did that dive feel wonderful on her as she broke the surface and mounted the board for the obligatory ride to shore within the green room of the gods!
WALLY GATOR: "Green room of the gods"--where have I heard THAT one before?!
PETER POTAMUS: So, positioning her body in the standing position essential to surfing, this princess began to barrel her way through waters as were heavy on the corals to such extent as made the waves as massive as they are ... only about ten feet from shore, for some reason she slipped off the board and fell into the waters, with her wondering what was bound to happen next as she was tossing and spinning around, intense corals close to the bottom as could risk cutting her open to injury ... but amazingly, as if instinct called for it, a dolphin swam close by this reef and sensed the peril the princess was facing. The dolphin signalled to the princess to grab his dorsal fin and hang on tight as shore approached, practically underwater all the way, with the very reef at hand flashing by throughout!
HOKEY WOLF, curious: So, how did the princess fare in the end?
PETER POTAMUS: Crawling onto the shore of the modest little island, catching her breath even, the princess wondered what exactly was to follow ... and after a short rest, she walked to a nearby cove to find the same dolphin who had rescued her from the surfing portion of the test jumping up and about in the waters, as if wanting to guide her back to her home island ... which she accepted, and with plenty of "quality time" underwater that amounted to discovery of herself, and then some! [Pause, as if to build up the suspense] When it was all over, and she has returned to home shores, she asked, "Well--?"
And, after a brief pause, such royalty serving as the judges, so to speak, signalled where she had passed, for the most part. Especially where a somewhat older prince noted where her slipping off the surfboard during the surfing test may have been accidental, but that the dolphin's rescuing her, and taking her in a sort of adventure over that legendary reef, may have been a rather unlikely, yet interesting, sort of test in and of itself.
[Another pause] Now--any questions?
[In essence, a stunned sort of amazed silence fell upon the divers, considering the sort of story as was just related being itself unbelievable.]
