despite his rough and grumpy exterior, inside his heart was painted with your colours of pearls: pale white, pink, and softly glowing.

his friends teased him about it.

"how can she make you so soft and puddly? you're like a stone with us," sirius groaned. they're best of friends. remus is familiar with sirius' hyperbole jokes.

remus didn't reply, he kept on reading.

"a remus!" sirius roared with laughter, james laughing along as he patted sirius' back for his horrible joke.

usually after a full moon, remus wouldn't even break a smile. he physically couldn't. but ever since you're his, he smiled whenever you visited him at the infirmary.

even james told you about it. "our grumpy remus smiles more often now that he met you," said the boy when you returned from the hospital wing to eat breakfast.

"really?" your heart warmed. you loved making people smile. it felt like you had accomplished something so special. although it's not a hard thing for people to do when you're around.

"yup. he usually sulks around the room after his furry little problem but now he looks... healthier and more alive somehow," sirius said.

"i'm so glad. i think he deserves the best of the best."

at first remus' friends were hesitant about your relationship, afraid that remus' cold demeanour would gloom down your shine but it never did. if anything your shine had brightened him up.

his friends were grateful and happy for remus. they know you're the perfect girl for him. a big part of loving someone else is to love yourself first. and you did that both so wonderfully.

remus isn't scared of you not accepting him for his lycanthropy. though he does have a fear of hurting you one day. that doesn't stop him from loving you and being open to you about himself.

he knew you're open minded. with your bold beliefs of equal rights in society. he wasn't scared. he wasn't in pain. after all the awful things the universe had given him, a lovely sweet girl is there, making the life he has bearable again.

the first night after he told you about his lycanthropy, you wanted to stay for him. but he insisted on you to not to do that and meet him the next morning instead.

no, he wasn't embarrassed of his appearance right after the transformation. his scars don't heal overnight. he physically looked the same the night before and the morning after, except that he's more relaxed the next morning as for the slumber really helped.

he just doesn't want you to be tired. he wanted you to sleep well. having the rest an angel always needs. of course you wanted to be with him before and after. but you know better than to go against him during his weakest point.

you see him the next morning, bringing a bag of chocolates and croissants.

you placed the bag on the bedside table, reaching for his hand instead. he was still asleep, eyes fluttering cause he's dreaming. you caressed his rough and scarred fingers softly, humming a tune.

remus woke up in the most peaceful way ever. seeing you beside him, playing with his fingers. "morning, princess."

you looked over at him, smiling so big. "oh morning, my remus," his heart fluttered when he heard the nickname. he is yours. forever yours.

"i am, i brought breakfast for you," you grabbed the bag of chocolate and croissants, opening them.

he sat up, reaching for the pastry but you pushed his hand away, making him frown in confusion. "i will do the work for you. you've been doing so much to me and i want to do this in return," you giggled. "sit back and relax."

"you don't have to," he said.

"i know. i would never do this to anyone except you."

remus smiled at that, opening his mouth to let you feed him. "you're such a doll. you're so good to me and sometimes i feel like i don't deserve this treatment... i'm not good enough."

They're very protective of each other, that's for sure. Molly might be the first one to meet you, or the Weasley children at Hogwarts. Heck, you might not even be related to the Weasleys and they'll still think of you as one of their own when they see the chance to make you theirs for good, you're just too naive and innocent for this world. And no doubt Harry and Hermione would play roles in helping them with their obsession with you as well since they are yanderes for you after all

Arthur would LOVE to talk to you about your knowledge of Muggles if you know about them that is. But don't worry, there are still plenty of other things he'd LOVE to talk to you about. It's actually kind of nice and adorable seeing him get so excited whenever you bring up the topic of Muggles, the way his eyes shine and light up with excitement like as if he's some sort of kid in a toy shop. But Molly has to be there to rein him in in case he makes you feel too overwhelmed with his questions. Arthur doesn't care if you're pure blood, related to them or not, half blood, muggle or heck even if your dad is Voldy himself. Unless of course, you're good. He'll still look after you like his own and care for you, and of course, keep you far far away from the prying eyes of the evil Malfoys and dangerous things like Death Eaters and concerning yourself with the activities of the Dark Lord

Bill is the chill and easy going brother who'll understand how you're feeling since he's a pro at it and he's also the oldest Weasley, he's the brother to 6 siblings of his. He's a good listener and always has good advice for you whenever you need to ask him about something and he'll also love it if you talk to him about his work and stuff. And he'll also tell Fred and George to lay back off a bit if their pranks become too much to which they'll apologize instantly. They would never think of hurting you, not even in their worst nightmares. Percy Weasley is the uptight stick in the mud, the spoilsport and sometimes the killjoy but he truly does want what's best for you despite him being arrogant and pompous. He tries to be a good example for people and his family but it's frustrating when no one follows him or even strives to be like him. He'll try to get you under his wing before the twins try corrupting you. He'll help you with your homework, ask you how your day is going and if anyone's bothering you, he'll teach them a lesson. He knows he isn't supposed to use his status as Headboy for personal reasons but he won't tolerate it if someone decided to make his sibling feel bad about something. And if you guys are at Hogwarts, he'll make his duty to check in on you every single freaking day and act like some sort of pompous watchdog for you

The fun loving Weasley twins, who love pranking you and the others, but will never go too far with their pranks for you since they would never want to see you cry. They're the best to come to when you're having a bad day or when you feel like crying. In which case they'll cheer you up by some of their pranks and make you laugh since they can't stand to see you cry and be sad. And as for the person whoever made the mistake of making you sad... they'll be on the wrong end of their pranks and NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE wants to be on the wrong end of their pranks, trust me on this. And they'll even take your opinion for their products at their joke shop Weasley's Wizard's Wheezes, and go as far as naming something after you and giving you some of their stuff for free, low prices or discounts ESPECIALLY for you. Lol, they'd just rub it in Ron's face and he'd so freaking jealous

Ron would be the really overprotective type for you. Normally the Weasleys are just over protective of you but he's INSANELY over protective. And it's mentioned in canon too that he's really protective over Ginny when she starts dating Terry Boot, Dean and Harry. And if you think he's bad there, he's WAY worse when you're concerned since the way he sees it is NO ONE is worthy of being your s/o, you're the baby of the family and he will NOT allow someone to ruin you. He'll love to talk about Quidditch with you and maybe even show off some of his flying skills to you, to impress you. And he will not think twice to defend you if some prat like Malfoy decides to be a prick to you, and what'll make his blood boil even more is if Malfoy decides to take an interest in you. In which case the entire Gryffindor house would have to get involved in trying to hold him, the Weasley twins and Percy from literally punching the hell out of him. And of course, with the help of his trust y friends Harry and Hermione they follow you with the Marauder's map and keep tabs on what you're doing just for your safety of course

And last but not the least, Ginny, the youngest of the family but knows how to get something when she wants it. And that includes your attention. She's kinda crafty and demands for your attention regularly. And she will snatch you up like some feather if you're spending time with someone else, except for Molly of course. NO ONE has the guts to dare to go against Molly lol. And of course, she'll introduce you to Luna and even Luna would turn out to be very protective over you. For someone who looks so innocent and calm like her, she does know how to get rid of people who bother you and make you sad. There's always someone watching you no matter what, be it a Weasley, a Granger, a Potter, or a Lovegood... they're all there for you and they're at the back of you, scaring people off who they don't like seeing close to you since all they want is the best for you, that's all. They might not have much, but they have family and it's home...

Reading the cursed child (scorbus, norvelize version in a03). I read the script years ago when I was 11 (funfact it was the first harry potter book I've ever bought). So I'm rereading it again because I have a scorbus brainrot suddenly (11 y/o me shipped Scorpius and Rose so hard but now I grew up let just say my taste had change lmao).

- that time where they were in godric hollow and Scorpius was surprised that Albus never knew the full story of his grandparents or visited the place just bc he was being a petty, moody uninterested teenager hit so hard (he is me and I am him). And the shame he felt was real too. I always regret those years in my life where I acted like that and I don't even have a daddy issue like Al did, what's my bloody excuse lmao (I blame fucking hormones) 😩😭

- okay so finished it!! When I was a kid I don't quite like the time travel thingy and find it very confusing but I think it's because it's a screenplay yk, and it was meant to be watched not read. But the novel version did help a lot (and I give the author my hundreds of gratitude, her writing is absolutely beautiful! And she captured the characters perfectly! If you're scared to read The Cursed Child, read her novel version in ao3!!!).

I'm surprised that I actually love the plot more than I thought I would. Yeah it can get a bit unrealistic at times but all in all it's very entertaining and Albus and Scorpius are very well written, very rounded and nuanced characters that carry the book. I'm glad their parents didn't overshadow their personality etc (like them being mini-copies of Harry and Draco). They're their own person and I love that about them!!

They're not Drarry or even Jegulus as I've seen people say, they're in their own league. There are no enemies or hatred or tension between them; Scorpius and Albus genuinely like each other so much from the first they laid their eyes on each other and I adore them for it.

I read a theory that Albus was sent in Slytherin because he subconsciously wanted to be in a house with this kind boy met on the train and it made me want to cry (they were made for each other). (Although I do think Albus have many Slytherin traits, Scorpius I was less sure he screamed Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw to me but admittedly he can be cunning to).

So yeah, I don't think it's that bad as everyone said (and my 11 y/o self). It's fun and I actually cried a lot at the end of it (I have to watch Jily die, do you have any idea what that did to me???) (I don't even ship them but i swear this book set me to default back to canon).

"someone's going to connect the dots," matty walks around her, settling himself next to her on the sofa. instantly, they rearrange themselves into a tangle--her legs on his lap, his arm around her, her head on his shoulders, his head on hers. "if they looked carefully, they'll make the connection."

"matty, we have been each other's muse for years and no one's found out. i don't think they're going to start now. besides," she snorts, "i think the art world thinks i've made you up in my mind. won't be the first time an artist's gone insane."

matty laughs. "maybe you have. you always say i'm too good to be true."

when she can't think of a retort, she sticks her tongue out, shrieking away when he smothers her in kisses.

"seriously though, it's fun writing about you. singing about you. and i love seeing myself through your eyes." suddenly matty sounds all sober and serious. she thinks his voice even wavers slightly at the end. he blinks quickly though, and just like that the brightness in his eyes is gone.

"love it when you write about me too," she teases, "love being called a gemini and a sexy girl, such poetry."

"oi! i put my heart into that! it's a precious memory for me."

"the memory of us fucking in the new bath for the first time?"

matty giggles like a teenager, hiding his face in her hair. it's fun to rile him up like this, so she continues, poking him in the ribs. "or waking up the next day with a head cold because we stayed in the cold water for so long hmm?"

"you took care of me though, and so i think you deserve to have a song written about you. or a whole album works too i think." then matty tuts. "actually, no. don't wanna tell anyone it's about you, that'll ruin the magic."

"ruin the magic?"

"of being your muse and having you as mine. i think a hundred years from now, when people would see your art as the artwork of this generation, and my music as the tune of our times--"

"tune of our times..."

"yeah, quit laughing at me!" matty flicks her nose, quickly kissing it after. "so when my music becomes the tune of our times, i think people will see it then. they will make the connections."

secretly, she loves the idea--that their love might transcend time and space through their art. that decades from now their names might be whispered together, even though they aren't just yet.

"of course, we'll be buried together by then. same grave by the way, very romeo and juliet of us."

"that's morbid!" she laughs sharply, "what will the epitaph say?"

matty hums for a bit, thinking, his eyes flutter shut for a second or two almost like he needs to focus on the half formed thought until it's a complete sentence. then he excitedly clears his throat and gently holds her face between his hands.

"here lie the artist and the muse; inspiring each other in death as they did in life."

An ongoing list of ACOWAR grievances I'm keeping track of while I read (because there's too many to make a post about all of them) pt. 2

I'm on chapter 15 now and feeling the urge to complain again so here we go

1) the writing is way too overdramaticized. Like every other paragraph is some remixed version of feyre going "I wondered whether it would be eggs or bacon for breakfast. But when I looked at Rhys I realized that he was giving me my own choice. My mate, my high lord. In our home. With our family. Every thing was always my choice" and its CONSTANT, LIKE OH MY GOD GIRL SHUT UP

2) every thing about Lucien's plotlineand the elain mating thing. I HATE this subplot with a PASSION

3) feyre immediately fucking rhys when she got back instead of going to see her sisters

4) feyre and rhysand acting like they've ben separated for forty centuries instead of a month

5) the contradictions about how the high lord thing works. Like it was established that its a government position given to you through basically fate and being chosen by the cauldron or whatever which is why siblings kill each other for a chance for the throne and yet they just went to a priestess and swore feyre in as high lady?? It makes her title not feel real like it's purely ceremonial. It doesn't even make sense that she would be able to be HL of the night court as she has no more ties to that court than she does any other court. Is it because she's mated to Rhys? I don't understand the HL lord at all, it just keeps changing

6) the fact that Feyre, Rhys, and Cassian tell Lucien about their tragic backstories and everything that's happened to feyre at the NC and he just immediately does a Feyre™️. Like he's suddenly "Oh yeah you had a horrible childhood and took feyre into your found family without letting her explore relationships outside of the IC, that totally makes up for all the evil shit THAT IVE SEEN YOU DO WITH MY OWN 2 EYES. wow i cant believe youre not evil even though you killed 50 winter court children and sexually assaulted your mate and mind raped her constantly to get her to like you"

7) the way they're treating Nesta. It has been a MONTH since she was stolen from her home, brought amongst a race that she is terrified of and THAT ENSLAVED HER PEOPLE, and was forcefully turned into ONE OF THEM and the IC is acting like she's being unreasonable for not wanting to talk to them or to mate with Cassian. WHY THE HELL WOULD SHE EVEN BE THINKING ABOUT CASSIAN RIGHT NOW?? WHY THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO FEEL BAD FOR HIM? Instead of him worrying about how his mate is doing regardless of his own comfort he's like WOE IS ME, SHE DOESNT WANT TO FUCK ME?????? GET OVER IT ASSHOLE?? WHY IS FEYRE EVEN LETTING CASSIAN COME NEAR HER AND ANTAGONIZE HER?? DOESNT SHE LOVE TO FLAUNT HER HL STATUS AROUND?? THIS IS THE TIME TO USE IT, PROTECT YOUR GODDAMN SISTER FROM HIM? ITS SO OBVIOUS THAT SHE DOESNT GIVE NEARLY AS MUCH OF A SHIT ABOUT NESTA AS SHE DOES ELAIN!!

8) the fact that sjm didn't keep cassian's wings shredded. Him learning to live with that would have been a badass character development but now sjm doesn't want me to have good things

9) the mating bond in general. I think it could be a potentially good plot device but no one ever employs it well and sjm is definitely the most egregious with it

10) the fact that the ic never gave consequences for their fucking actions. Feyre dies in acotar? Turn her into a fey and give her ALL of their powers. Stealing a precious artifact that they didn't even end up needing and getting a bounty on their head in the summer court and then getting that court invaded? That's fine because feyre is SOOO brave and says things that are common fucking sense which makes her SOOOO smart so we obviously need her as an ally so we'll just rescind the blood rubies. Getting the spring court sacked? That's fine we didn't like them anyway. Rhys and feyre's bond gets snapped? Well they didn't know about our super secret mating bond that is actually the only thing that gives our characters chemistry so we still like each other. Rhys causes irreparable damage to every court for 50 years and kills 50 kids? Well that's fine he was being held hostage and hey! We don't know he actually killed those kids 😡 Feyre, a 20 year old girl who's been fae for like 6 months and training for even less goes up against thousands of years old beings? She beats them effortlesslessly! Rhys gets sexually assaulted for 50 years! Well he planned all of it so it has no negative consequences on him. Cassian gets his wings shredded? Well he worked really hard and they're fixed now 🥰. Rhys FUCKING DIES?? Well that's no problem, tamlin can just resurrect him, nvm the fact that there's no reason why he WOULD. like no harrowing situation is ever interesting cause we all know sjm isn't actually going to do anything to the ic

I love the comparisons and contrasts between Everlark and Snowbaird (edit: I wrote a meta here discussing some of what I see there and Rachel has drawn the comparison too) because there is no "safe" purely "wholesome" love. It doesn't exist.

I genuinely hate that fandom thinks there's such a thing as a pure ship. Or that we can or should take art and cut it into neat little pieces, use stories to "teach girls" (where girls are presumed to be the most ignorant and worthless of creatures, incapable of the full experience of what it means to be human, but also the only ones responsible for anything bad that happens, creatures so responsible that all tragedies that befall them are their own fault, their deepest shame) how to make love safe. It's a lie. Loving is about people, and people are never pure. Everything good we give each other is hard won with courage in the face of fear.

It is inherently dangerous because humans are. And if you're lucky, you give yourself to someone who meets that trust and courage with their own. And if you're not lucky, it hurts. And there's no way to control it. There's no way to be smart enough or pure enough or notice the right "red flags" (irl abusers are good at hiding and perfectly lovely people can become ill or addicted or just *change* on you). You can be lucky for a time and someone can still change.

Because you cannot control someone else, just love them.

And--here is the great part--it was that very lack of control that drove Coriolanus to throw love away! He was so afraid of what an inherently terrifying thing it is, how it is giving yourself away without guarantees, that he brought that fear down on them. He became the traitor he was so terrified that Lucy Gray might be. He destroyed something infinitely precious because he couldn't live with what a sublime wonder and terror it is to give yourself away with open hands. Love is never pure. It is so much better than that. It is...

I write all kinds of ships and like all kinds of love stories and see no contradiction because even the happiest ones are that too. I am endlessly frustrated by the way Gothic romance and tragic romance and other romances that explore the terror and darker side of that are pathologized because it makes the more joyful, happy endings dishonest. Love is risk, touching the sublime, allowing yourself to be remade.

Every joy we find in life--every single one, not just in romance, but anywhere--is like making love in the lap of death. In the midst of life we are in death; in the midst of death we are in life. The only thing worse than the fear of giving yourself away (in all the ways we can seek intimacy, not only romance) is the truest death, the death of never opening yourself up to begin with, never letting yourself be changed and moved and remade by another. And if we need an object lesson in that, here we've got Coriolanus Snow!

He's not an object lesson in "bad boyfriends." Lucy Gray made good choices from her pov! (I'm writing a separate meta on this). Nothing that happened was her fault! She is not an object lesson, she's a brave, loving girl who experienced a tragedy. She was betrayed. She's a character of the kind of folk ballads Collins was drawing on, which are actually more honest about people and more compassionate toward women who experience tragedy and loss than a rigidly US-centric, individualist, inherently victim blaming, just world fallacy view of control and "teaching girls good lessons." You can drain all the pleasure and joy out of life in the effort to control things and keep someone from being able to hurt you and still not really be safe, just be dead inside - like Coriolanus did.

The only way to truly possess someone is to destroy them and then you don't actually possess them at all! They're gone. The person you wanted to keep you've driven away. And the only way to truly be safe and in control is to kill your own heart. So what are you even protecting?

There is no shame in being Lucy Gray. The shame is in letting fear and the need for control own us like Coriolanus.

As someone who feels torn often in fandom because I ship both love stories that get categorized as "wholesome" and "problematic," the fact that Collins wrote both one of my favorite ships ever that gets categorized (and, I think, often massively simplified) into "wholesome" AND another "problematic" one that IMO is a gorgeous object lesson in why the whole idea of this binary is bullshit--and why love stories can and should explore the terror of being alive and living as well as the joy and genres like Gothic and tragedy are a beautiful part of the tapestry of narratives exploring love and living as a human in fiction--and we should very much NOT be Coriolanus?

oh, you feel dizzy every single time heeseung kisses you - despite being together for quite a while now. you could have already assumed he would be a good kisser from the second you fell for him, - and just to add; nobody could have put into words just how awfully right you were from the start - but nothing could've prepared you for how much of a passionate and intimate kisser he actually is. heeseung loves kissing you. while that's actually quite the given in a relationship, he loves kissing you especially much, and it can be any kind of kiss, really - only adding to how crazy it drives you each time. it can be a casual kiss on the lips, or a lovely kiss on your forehead, going over to another full-blown make-out session, to kisses on your neck, or leaving the softest kisses on your shoulder; heeseung kisses you like his life might actually depend on it. although he loves leaving kisses on your neck, he isn't really the type of person for hickeys - he'd rather nobody sees how passionately he kisses you when nobody's watching. with the way your skin feels just perfect against his lips, he's always leaving the softest, most loving and intimate kisses on your body one way or another. you never would've thought he would be this obsessed with you in a way, but god, you would never even think about complaining. with his hands around your body every time, he clearly notices the goosebumps he causes you, and how your body reacts to his every yet so tiny touch - and well, he knows exactly what he does to you, which is probably why he loves it so much, too. he loves watching you absolutely crumble under his touch, which explains the tiny smile on his face every time.

if you were to guess who loves the casual back hugs more between you and jay, you'd actually have no idea - despite him being the giver in this situation. you could be cooking, standing in front of the mirror, sleeping, and what not - jay will wrap his arms around your body from behind, with his neck always buried in the crook of your neck. like, literally always. you can be standing in the kitchen, and jay will hug you from behind - and usually he's watching whatever you're doing like that, but sometimes, it's almost as if he's gone for a moment. the second he's that close to you, he can't help but close his eyes for just a second, pulling you closer (in case that's even possible) and simply enjoying your warmth. his heart feels at ease with you - let alone, if he's that close to the person he's hopelessly in love with. although casual in a way, as jay literally gives you back hugs at any given chance, you find that they're the most intimate moments at times - causing you goosebumps, like this is your first hug as a couple. yet, what jay also loves most, is the way you naturally put your one hand on his as they're wrapped around your body, and the other on his head, softly stroking through his hair while slightly leaning your head on top of his. and it's complete silence, just pure intimacy for a few moments. you're quite literally his everything, so it's really no surprise he's clinging onto you 24/7.

puts his arm around your shoulder

the second you leave the house, his arm is already around your shoulder. jake especially likes to show you off, show everybody who you're with, as you're the most precious thing ever to him. he likes to have you as close as possible at all times; simply loving your warmth and touch, even if he's the one initiating it. but to your luck, that's not only the case whenever you're outside; although it is mostly, he doesn't miss a chance to wrap his arm around you whenever you're sitting at home - regardless of what you're actually doing in that moment. he doesn't say a word, but still manages to put a smile on your face every time, which you try to hide somehow. but well, who would you be if you didn't fall in love again whenever he does something simple like that? especially, especially when you both tend to lean in a tiny bit and your heads touch lightly. or the way jake softly strokes your arm - most of the time probably unknowingly, which is driving you even crazier the more you think about it. while he probably does it without realizing, it causes goosebumps on your skin nine out of ten times. and when he notices, he simply looks at you for a split second and chuckles, only to pull you in closer and possibly, leave a kiss on your head. whatever he does to show his love, it'll probably always make you feel all giddy and like you just fell in love for the first time - and he absolutely, absolutely loves seeing it.

holding hands

oh, sunghoon's actually holding your hand whenever he gets the chance to. it can easily be outside; not denying how much he loves walking around the city with you while casually holding hands. it's something so small and something most couples do, yet some people won't even notice it, but he loves it regardless. however, it can also be at home - you're watching a movie together at night? his hand is holding yours under the blanket, and you won't even notice how and when it actually got there. falling asleep? his whole arm is wrapped around your body, but he's still holding your hand on the end of it to keep you as close as possible. randomly dancing to music together? well first of all, you just dance because you want to (and not because you actually can), but sunghoon will most definitely find a way to dance with you that allows him to hold your hand/s. his hands are intertwined with yours at all times, simply in love with feeling your warmth and, although it could count as classic or casual, he does find it intimate in a way. especially considering how much you love it as well - your hand now feeling empty whenever it's not intertwined with his, almost like it's missing something. and especially, the way it fits into yours just perfectly.

always says goodbye / greets you with a kiss

if he has somewhere to be, you can bet that he will not step outside if he hasn't kissed you goodbye - every. single. time. - which is quite often. and actually, somewhere, as in anywhere - most of the time it's for work, and when he won't be seeing you for several hours, it makes sense he wants to kiss you goodbye. if he's meeting up with his members to hang out, it also makes sense. let alone things like trips for work; in situations like that, you might be the one initiating a goodbye kiss as well. however, you can't help but laugh every time he goes to places like, say, the grocery store to buy maybe three things - and, note: the grocery story is five minutes away at most. so realistically, he won't even be gone for a whole twenty minutes. and like, that's not all. the cherry on top is that he also kisses you when he comes back - although if you'd ask him, the goodbye-kisses probably have priority. so at this point, you wouldn't be too surprised if sunoo got out of bed and gave you a quick kiss before going downstairs for two minutes. but, well, not that you're complaining - quite the opposite actually. you find yourself feeling like you forgot something if you leave without getting a goodbye kiss. sunoo's habit has rubbed off on you without you even noticing at first; so now, whenever you expect a goodbye kiss before you're going somewhere, you're met with his sunshine like smile when he realizes what you're waiting for - and obviously, gives you what you want. it started as a cute habit, but now both of you got so used to it, it'd feel awfully wrong to stop all of a sudden.

puts his head on your shoulder

wherever you are, you will feel his head on your shoulder at some point. you can be at a campfire, the train, at home watching tv, or whatever - it's like your shoulder is his personal pillow. whether it be putting it there to fall asleep, rest, or maybe to just enjoy your warmth; he almost does it unknowingly at this point. the boy could stay like that forever, especially when you put your hand on his cheek to prevent his head from falling, mostly when you know he's about to fall asleep. god, jungwon loves how your touch feels - so soft, especially when he knows you got him in case he actually falls asleep, and his head would 'slide' off your shoulder somehow. it might actually sound silly at first, but the sole reason he started doing that, is because of how safe and comfortable he feels with/ around you. he was scared you might find it annoying, but when he found out how much you actually love it, he got even more comfortable with both, you, and continuing his adorable habit. you loved whenever he does it, most of the time lightly putting yours on top - a small thing as that reminds jungwon how much he's actually in love with you, which is a lot.

cuddling

while outside, people would never actually think how much riki loves cuddling. he tends to be rather shy when it comes to pda; most of the time he will hold your hand, or give you a quick kiss on your forehead - but that's about it, which you're obviously okay with. which you're especially more than okay with, knowing riki won't actually let go of you for the next three hours the second you get home. maybe not outside because the shyness gets to him, but when you're by yourselves, he wants to be close to you at all times. from cuddling in bed to falling asleep and waking up in his arms, to simply cuddle and be as close to you as possible while you're sitting on the couch watching something; it's almost like he's trying to keep you from running away with the way he doesn't let go and clings onto you. honestly, he could be glued to you 24/7 - well no, correction; he IS glued to you 24/7. riki is so whipped for you, sometimes he wonders if it's normal to be that in love and to be wanting to be that close to someone at literally all times. but of course, he'd rather show it through teasing you, and then clinging onto you right after - leaving you no time to fully react. honestly, it's like you blink, and suddenly his arms are wrapped around you, his face buried in the crook of your neck like you were actually planning to run away any second now - if you were to ask him, he could actually stay like that forever. he'd never let go of you, as he feels the most at home being close to you.

Food in the Edgy Sword Manga: A Summary

This is long because I hit the image cap but I at least managed to keep things succinct for once in my life.

In short: Kagurabachi has been using food as obvious symbolism for connection, trust, general well-being, and/or mutual understanding since the beginning.

Chapter 1

Moments like these are cherished memories that Chihiro keeps close to his heart. Note his relaxed, open posture compared to the next image.

Three years later, Chihiro is turning down Mr. Shiba's small offer of comfort. He still relies on Mr. Shiba and cares a great deal for him, obviously, but his heart is closed off now.

Vs. Sojo Arc

Chapter 3

Our first obvious glimpse into the kind nature Chihiro tries to smother with edginess. He'll turn down comfort from others but he'll easily offer some to a scruffy orphan. He even makes sure he gets down to her eye level to reassure her when doing so (Hinao also did the same earlier in the chapter). Take notes, Mr. Shiba.

World's Hardest-Working Uncle Figure doing the clarifying monologue shtick to perfection as always. Just so we know that this bit with Char is perfectly in-character for Chihiro.

Char doesn't trust Chihiro yet, but she's willing to help him with his own quest at least. They connected over the meal (short-lived as it was).

Chapter 5

Chihiro being run ragged by a hungry, lonely little girl should trounce any lingering doubts that this guy is an uncaring revenge bot. You can tell by his thoughts and dialogue here that despite his brusque attitude, he's more focused on Char's quirks and well-being than the information she can offer him. And Char reciprocates by starting to let her guard down- his altruism when providing security and comfort gets her to trust him completely.

Again food being used to reference someone's well-being. Living as a science experiment in captivity was terrible even when she still had her mom (obviously). But Char's safe now with access to good food through Chihiro. Or so she hopes.

Chapter 6

Chihiro's cherished memories of his dad are corrupted thanks to the trauma sorcerer. A meal interrupted, trust and safety shattered. Only hatred is left according to Chihiro when he comes to. ...But he's not exactly the most trustworthy guy when it comes to his own status.

Instead of the science lab or the cell itself we see a tray of indistinct mush and water in a cage. Just a gentle way of bonking us over the head that the food metaphors are supposed to be obvious- and that whatever is waiting for Char back there with Sojo is not good for her (or anyone really).

The comfort Chihiro offers is a bit awkward and messy, but it's still wholesome as fuck. He's willing to give it at his own expense too. Someone please give this boy a hug.

Chapter 11

Poor Mr. Shiba. One day he'll find someone who appreciates his awkward attempts to help people. At least Hinao didn't turn him down despite the poor presentation.

Between this scene and the grilled smelt from Chapter 1, it's pretty obvious that Shiba sucks at trying to be a source of comfort, but at least he tries.

Alone and back to being mistreated. Oh, Char...

Chapter 15

Just like Chihiro, this represents the precious memories Char has of her mom. When she was safe and loved.

And once again, safety and comfort are brutally ripped away from a child and their only parent.

... but what was lost can be found again in the right people.

May nothing bad ever happen to Char again. I mean it.

Chapter 17

Ah, one of my favorite tropes! Interrupting a fierce battle scene to show the combatants having a casual chat! This time, there's no comfort or security to be had through sharing food, though. Instead, this is exchange is purely about connecting and understanding each others' views.

A bit of trivia: these guys are probably eating hanami (a.k.a. sanshoku) dango which are usually eaten while viewing cherry blossom trees in the spring. They're sweet and thus extra unappetizing for Chihiro (he dislikes sweet foods and drinks in general).

Sojo initiates and eats a single dango. He begrudgingly accepts that Chihiro's view of Kunishige's legacy is legitimate.

As the conversation goes on, Chihiro accepts Sojo's interpretation in turn. Both of them are correct. And yet:

Chihiro painfully finishes his dango while Sojo is content to leave just the first one eaten. This is Chihiro being willing and able to swallow the whole truth and all it's implications, no matter how unpleasant the experience is. Meanwhile Sojo cares more about being the one with the "most correct" interpretation. Chihiro ended up getting more out of the conversation than Sojo did, which gave him the edge he needed to win the fight.

And that's the end of the Vs. Sojo arc. The food references aren't as common past this point, but they still show up to give some extra context in a few scenes.

Rakuzaichi Arc

Chapter 19

Hakuri's just a fuckin' mess dude- alone, insecure, and can't give himself any kind of reassurance. Given what what we can infer from his monologue, it's pretty obvious this guy is going through it and not coping as well as he thinks he is.

Chapter 26

Our spaghetti queen and parfait king share a meal to let us know that they're pretty comfortable with each other... though outsiders might not get what their deal is. It's casual and they chat like they've known each other for a while. Tafuku and Hiyuki's relationship is solid despite the yawning chasm between their personalities.

Once again Shiba's good intentions are turned down. At least Char is comfortable enough to let Team Goldfish know about her wants and needs now though!

Meanwhile, Hakuri isn't ready or willing to let anyone console him, but least we have better insight as to why he struggles to keep his shit together. Most people would- and we haven't even seen the worst of his circumstances yet.

Chapter 28

After a few days of encouragement from Chihiro and helping out, Hakuri finally lets himself be treated a little. He earned himself a bit of security and respite but is still uneasy, and thus quick to let the warm fuzzies go (hence passing the ice cream to Char instead of bringing it with him). Neither Chihiro nor Shiba have any themselves.

Chapter 35

Oh man. Oh boy. Time to really get into why Hakuri is the way he is. This could be a whole post by itself but I'll try to be brief. (Honest.)

Shout out to the KB Confession account on Twitter for letting me ramble in their inbox with that long-ass submission about how Hakuri relates to food in this series. I've reworked it poorly here (so much for being anonymous I guess).

Sazanami prison food looks better than what Char was getting, but it's not out of kindness- everything in this place exists for the Rakuzaichi. Hakuri obviously sees himself as no different. He threatens to keep Ice Lady alive no matter what she wants because that's his job; there's no affection or compassion involved when he provides her meals.

Ice Lady seems to want to genuinely connect with Hakuri though. Even when she fails to manipulate him, she keeps the offer of companionship open to him since she's empathetic to his situation.

It works as she thought it would, but maybe not as she hoped. We see him coming to trust and find comfort in her as she leaves less food behind each time, but she's unable to find the same in him. His insistence on their one-sided relationship through food only pushed Ice Lady further and further away despite her apparent growing affection for him. He got it all wrong because he didn't know any better. It's painful to love and be loved as a Sazanami- especially a worthless defect like him. Hakuri wasn't able to understand the ramifications of how fucked up his situation was until Ice Lady slit her throat in his face.

Up until this point, providing food was a positive thing- people connecting and usually finding comfort. At the bare minimum it allowed Chihiro and Sojo to understand each other before the end. But Hakuri inverted and distorted the meaning of sharing food with someone. His actions helped him break free from his family's grip by revealing that he doesn't know what it means to properly offer and reciprocate genuine human connection. So now Hakuri probably associates sharing food with being used and hurting other people.

That's why we haven't seen him share a meal with Team Goldfish or anyone else yet IMO. For all that he's attached himself to Chihiro, he still hasn't exchanged any food with him. Hakuri only trusts that Chihiro saw something worthwhile in in him, that through him there might be hope outside the cage after all. He's barely beginning to see himself as a useful tool. Once he gets to the probably not a horrible human being mindset is where we might see him be able to open up and try to share food again.

Chapter 43

The normal loving family that could have been, if not for Kyora and the clan's slavish devotion to the Rakuzaichi. It's sad but not suspicious that Mrs. Sazanami isn't included much in the meal- all signs from this chapter point to a joyless arranged marriage after all. Her not participating with her husband and sons speaks volumes about how distant and miserable she must have felt despite (presumably) making that spread. To provide care, comfort, and love while not being able to partake of it is all too common for mothers.

And so, another arc concludes with people sitting down to eat together despite some of them being doomed to die. And an exploding building. Gotta have both in Kagurabachi.

Kamunabi Arc

Chapter 45

Hey Chihiro, whatever happened to waking up with fresh hatred every morning? lmao

I love these goofs so much. It's just snacks on a coffee table, but it shows that Hiyuki and Tafuku have earned some level of trust from Team Goldfish. Shiba trusted them enough to supervise their stay in the same room as his sleeping nephews at least. And Char's already completely won over apparently. This manga does not miss on the found family wholesomeness.

Hiyuki might see the Kamunabi as a sort of family. At the very least, they're an important safety net for society as a whole. Hence us seeing the food again- protection and security.

So who and what will be next? Chihiro bonding with Hiyuki and Tafuku? Kazane turning someone's offer down? Chihiro, Hakuri, and some new coworkers chatting over lunch in the Kamunabi's cafeteria? I'm definitely going to be on the lookout! Until next time, Bachibros.

Hyperfocus:Ribs

NGL, this was long overdue but I have been busy as of late ^w^

I'm just sitting down, reading, a relatively often occurence. I look up as they come in, and a smile lights up my face. I wave them over, setting the book down and hugging them, then moving over on the bed so they can lay next to me, they themselves getting a novel. Life can be so chaotic, fun but wild at times. It makes these times with them, just quietly being together, enjoying each others presence, all the more precious. Of course, them being them, the silence wouldn't be forever. I feel a poke in my side, and look up, only to see them reading. Hmm. I slowly look down, and 3 minutes later, another poke. I whip my head up, and see them looking at the book, a barely contained silly smile on their face. Aha. I roll my eyes playfully, then pretend to look back down. As soon as they slowly reach out to poke my sides again, I grab their wrist, turning, straddling their wasit, and using my forearm to hold both arms above their head, on the pillows. I smirk as they struggle to pull free, but don't, and touch foreheads with them softly, whispering "New Story. This one is about the Little Lee who liked to poke the bear...The Lee with Ticklish Ribs~". My insinuation is noticed, I can tell by the small look of lee panic in their eyes. I smirk, and simply rest one hand on the left side of their ribcage, before drawling out "Now...let's see how many toys we have to play with, hmm?~". I roll their shirt up, before resting two fingers on an individual rib, "counting" it, by vibrating both fingers on the rib and moving on to the next rib as they squirm around under me. "1......2......3...4.....5....6....Dang it! You're so Squirmy! I lost count of which one I was on...guess we gotta start allllll Over!~ Try to be still this time, Darling. 1.....2....3.....4...5...6...7...8..........Ah heck, I got lost in your eyes about that. Dang. What number was I on? An 'EEHEHEHEHEIHIGHT' ? What is that? Guess we'll just restart again~". I "lose count" 3 more times, and get it right on the 6th try, then I stop, locking eyes with you, and growl out happily, my voice deepening. "I'm gonna do it again. Not because I lost count. Because I can tell you're loving this, and that's just so cute I wanna keep going forever, Sweetheart~". The Flustered Expression on their face tells me I hit the money on my Analysis of their feelings about this whole event. Good. I count the ribs one more time, Painstakingly Slowly, and then finally, I stop counting, and get up.

Oh but I'm not done.

Not by a long shot.

Instead, I tell you to wait, leaving the room for just a second before coming back with a couple of paintbrushes, and paint that's safe for their skin. I giggle evilly, then climb back on the bed, drawling out "Here's the deal, cutie. You have to keep your hands above your head, whether gripping each other, or on the bedframe, while I paint. If you can't, I'll pin you again~". I tilt my head, smiling as they lock their arms over their head, then go over, and straddle them once more, beginning to paint. I'm thorough, using a smaller brush to get in between each rib. My concentration is pure, but not enough to not notice how hard they're trying to keep still for me, which I note on: "Awwwww, you're doing such a good job Baby!~ Being nice and still for me...guess you still like this, huh?~". I wink at them, both of us knowing full well that you loving it was the entire reason I do this. After about 3-5 minutes I finish painting, then raise a washrag, giggling as I begin to scrub the paint off, wiggling my fingers through the rag, and watching them stop holding their arms above their head, cooing "Calm down baby we've gotta get you clean!~". When done, I grin at them then say slowly, softly "There we go...clean enough to eat~". I chuckle when I see their eyes widen, and before they can stop me, I start nomming their ribs gently. I do this for 2 minutes, then, scrub them off AGAIN, and finally, pull you into a hug, stroking their back gently. After a while, we get back to reading, and it's like nothing happened.

Except for the blush on their face.

And the warm smile on mine.

Macchiato (she's a full-grown cat but this gives Macchi energy):

• Why should the fun stop at work? Macchi wants to be around you 24/7, all day every day.

• She was taking a walk in cat form just to stretch her cat legs, when she sees you. Immediately runs up to you all excited and talking your head off. However, she's in cat form so all you see is a friendly calico meowing continuously at you. Girl legit forgot she was a cat for a sec.

• Was about to shift back (girl don't do that you'll be naked) when you pick her up a coo about how cute she is. Yes, she is your good girl! Please keep scratching under her chin. You're taking her home, yes please do (make her your wife(don't))!

• Runs around your tiny apartment looking at everything. It all smells like you! You find it amusing because you don't know its Macchiato.

• Probably turns back when you're sleeping so she can hold you in her arms, boy are you surprised when you wake up!

•"Morning (Y/N)~, why are you frightened it's me your precious kitten. You should let me sleep over more!"

Matcha:

•Tries to respect your privacy, they really do because their deity deserves it. However, they give into temptation watching you go about your day!

•Shifts into a majestic Russian Blue and follows you down the street, oh you are so heavenly, so god-like, so perfect.

• Poor bastard (gender-neutral) purrs so loud that you hear them and turn to see the most beautiful cat in a while. It's got such beautiful blue-gray fur and shimmering green eyes. Of course, you fall in love at first sight (not with them just the cat form). You scoop Matcha up in your arms and pet them gently.

•They're trembling which you see as fear but it's actually pure excitement and love. You touch them so gently with your holy hands, how could they not wish to lay and your feet and worship you?

•Should you bring them back to your apartment they will treat it like a temple. Tentatively walking around as if they are not worthy (they don't feel worthy), you feel upset because you think Matcha's been abused.

•Will accidentally shift when you try to bring them into the shower with you. This is all happening to fast first they're in your abode and now you'll allow them to peer at your divine figure. Matcha transforms which causes you to scream as Matcha is now in your apartment, naked, and face down ass up on your bathroom floor.

• "Please my divinity, punish me however you deign fit. I-I should not have the privilege of seeing you in your natural state. Just don't leave me."

Cookie and Muffin (imagine a bit of gray on one and another gray one with a bit of white):

• Cookie and Muffin regularly slip into cat form to steal food from customers, so yeah, they have no problem shifting to spy for mama Sugar.

• They love being held but suddenly feel the urge to wriggle like worms and may even bite you just because they have that feral energy.

• They're small enough to just slip into your bag but get noticed pretty quickly as they couldn't stop bickering about who was stepping on who's tail. You open your bag to reveal two adorable kittens hissing at each other.

• If you take them into your house, oh boy, will you regret it. Have zero manners like come on Mama Sugar raised you better than that. Scratching up furniture, knocking over breakables, and climbing on all the kitchen counterspace.

•You probably will find Sugar nonchalantly invite herself in to collect her naughty little ones (she hired a private detective to find out where you live). "There are my darling angels, did you cause much trouble for (Y/N)?" Don't worry the woman will buy you newer and higher quality items to replace the damaged ones (what do you mean that had sentimental value, darling don't be crazy).

• The twins will make a habit of following you back to your apartment, so Sugar can have some one-on-one time with you. Oh, the twins miss you dearly when your gone, spend some time in their lavish house so they don't have to take such drastic measures. You're not leaving that house though anytime soon.

Croissant (Not exactly the cat that Croissant is but hey it's adorable):

• Is it even a question mans is such a stalker, also you are more trusting of a seemingly innocent cat that is standing on a fence.

• Will make a note of your routine and write it down later, freaks the fuck out if you deviate slightly, you'll get hurt if he's not there to protect you.

• When you notice him, he freezes unsure of what to do, did you know it was him? Bros about to jump ship. "Hey, little guy, aren't you cute?" Cute *insert computer dial up noises*

• Doesn't notice you taking him home until his paws hit the wooden floor. How did he get here? He stands unsure of his ability to explore your home. The delusion meter rises when you look at him, you must know it is him and you're inviting him to live with you right? A delusional Croissant is a dangerous Croissant.

• Turns human as well on complete accident and is horrified. Maybe you kissed his cute little nose and now you have a very naked, very flustered Croissant on top of you. He covers his skinny torso because he's ashamed of his flabby belly.

• "Don't look (Y/N) I'm not in the best shape right now, I don't have much time to exercise with all the studying I must do! Please could I have some clothes so I can leave, I promise to leave as long as you promise you won't abandon me."

• He doesn't immediately jump to stalking you because he believes the two of you are already lovers, any rejection on your part is you just being shy.

• Turns into a kitty and meows pitifully for you to let him in (he hid his clothes somewhere else). You hear the cries of one of your favorite animals and quickly pull it inside, so it doesn't get reported by your neighbors. Donut smirks as you unknowingly let the little freak back into your apartment.

• You set the cat on your lap and coo at him for being cute and he just soaks the attention up like a sponge. Tell him how much you love him! He also can finally bury his head in your chest without you slapping him away, this is complete bliss.

• You come back into the room and almost drop the plate of salmon pate when you see Donut sitting on your couch in his birthday suit confidently. "Ooh is that pate? Lovely you're always thinking about me." You definitely smack the crap out of him for this little stunt.

• "Ouch! (Y/N) you're being so rough, I don't know if I can handle it~ Okay, okay, I'll leave but I need to borrow some clothes real quick."

Cocoa (Couldn't find a Burmese GIF so just imagine a Burmese peering through the weeds):

• Girlie pops doesn't want to have to be a cat as she prefers talking to you and clinging to you. However, sacrifices must be made in the name of protecting her best friend.

• Strolls around with a swagger in her steps and if you notice her won't stop rubbing against your legs, got to make the others know that you're her friend not theirs.

• Girl follows you through the front door of your apartment before you push her outside. How dare you push her away from you?! Don't you care?

• Will hold a grudge for the action you've committed even though you don't know it was her. Hmph, she doesn't want your attention so go away! If you leave, she will scream at you for not caring though.

• "I don't want to go shopping with you I'm busy...okay I really do but please try not to ignore me so much! You mean the world to me after all!"

Butch (Chin scratches for best boi):

• On the surface Butch may seem like a cold and stoic bodyguard who dislikes you immensely. He originally did but you're so infuriating (cute) that he can't get you out of his head. You're leaving? Alone? At night? No way let him come with you!

• Very insecure about his dog form as he was used to doing both hybrid and dog fights when he was younger. He's got a big chunk torn out of his right ear and visible scars all over his body. It goes without saying he won't do it for a while.

• However, there are a few ways to convince him that you need him to protect (follow) you. One, Shopkeeper manipulates him into spying on you and reporting back to them. Two, you come to the cafe injured one day and he feels terrible seeing you wounded. Three, he caves to his desire to make sure you're safe at all times.

• You see this mistreated looking dog following you and you immediately coax him towards you. Butch is hesitant as others have harmed him before in this form, but he knows you are far too kind (that's why he must protect you).

• You take him to your house and give him heaps of love and snuggles that he is not used to receiving. He might actually cry because he's never felt so loved before. He melts into your arms and you bed if you'll let him snuggle with you there.

• You wake up with a firm chest pressed against your back and see a face you never thought you would see willingly near you. You try to escape but his grip tightens.

• "Please just five more minutes... I just want to hold you."

Won't:

Sugar:

• A mature and sophisticated woman of her age believes stalking is beneath her. Why do that when she can pay others to do the dirty work for her?

• When the twins follow you in cat form, she is frustrated with them for invading the privacy of your home. However, she realizes this situation can be used to her advantage and orchestrates more scenarios like the first one.

• She is able to get this one-on-one time with you that she craves. You both sit on the couch, and she wraps her long white fluffy tail around your waist to pull you closer. She can't seduce you with her kids around, but she will leave you wanting more.

• She'll guilt trip you into visiting her luxurious mansion to see the twins more often. Her kids adore you so why deprive them of quality time they desire? She sets her plan of making you her house spouse into motion.

• "Oh, my naughty little kittens have strayed to your abode once more. They just love you so much...and I do as well."

Cappucino

• This fluffy bastard is too lazy to even shift most of the time. All they want to do is sleep and be with you. Stalking is out of the question as like I stated before their apathy for strenuous activities (outside of the gym) prevents them from invading your privacy.

• If turning into a fluffy and cute kitty will get you to stay than they will consider it. Hey, they don't mind, they get to sleep, and you get to pet them.

• They'll probably fall asleep in your bag in cat form and wake up in a strange new environment. Have their crazed fans finally kidnapped them? Well hopefully there's a comfy bed. They then catch a whiff of your scent and feel like moving to find the source. You are sound asleep in your bed after a long day at work, you look so alluring in your sleep.

• You probably wake up to the soothing thrum of Cappuccino's purring and feel a plush figure on top of you. You almost scream as you see Cappuccino in all they're naked glory staring warmly down at you with their sky blue orbs.

• "So annoying being this loud in the morning, if you don't quiet down pillow I'll take my own measures. Either way I get to enjoy something."

Shopkeeper:

• Shopkeeper doesn't need to stalk you as they have eyes and ears everywhere in this city. They know where you are and who you're with, so don't be surprised if they happen to be there too.

• If they absolutely need to have someone spy, they'll send Butch, he loves both of you so it's a win (he's such a good pawn). If he refuses they'll persuade someone else.

• Like to have you at their apartment above the cafe because they control everything in their house. Shopkeeper will also spend time with you in the cafe if you don't feel quite comfortable yet.

• Rest assured that you will end up in their apartment as their loving spouse one day. If you don't like the apartment, they can buy a bigger and better place just for you (say the word and it's yours unless it's your freedom). For now, they smile and chat with you as you sip their coffee. Hope you don't mind the calming affect it will have on you.

•"Dear you look tired, let's get you to bed. No don't even bother going to your place it's way too far for the state you're in. My apartment is upstairs, and I don't mind caring for my favorite customer.

Whats your ranking on akatsuki ships, partnered or otherwise?

I contemplated doing this ranking with all of the most common Akatsuki related ships but there were over 20 without even counting the OFCs and Reader fics. There were 4 Sakura pairings alone LOL. So I'll do a partner ship ranking I think.

I know that when they did this same ranking earlier today, @mixelation accounted for how the fandom treated these ships in their rankings. But I am ranking based on what dynamics I think these ships could deliver me. I'm not judging by what fandom actually gave me. I'm measuring with my ✨heart.✨

6. Orochimaru/Sasori

I cannot imagine this as a sexual or romantic ship, but I can admire the sheer amount of psychic damage these men would do through pure pettiness. This is really two dramatic judgemental bitches leaving no survivors. So that's fun, right? But as a ship? Nah.

5. Konan/Pein

I understand the canon basis for this ship but I am not very interested in either of these characters and they are not improved by proximity.

4. Sasori/Deidara

They're both cute and their philosophies are completely opposed. However, I think Sasori's regard for Deidara is not really articulated in canon and it's hard to imagine him having positive feelings about him? I don't think there's anything really interesting to chew on here, personally? It's like arguing and not much else, to me. It's an aesthetically pleasing pairing but the character dynamic is not compelling me.

3. Deidara/Tobi

Incomprehensible but at least I can see that Obito enjoys baiting Deidara and Deidara shows curiosity about Tobi. You can build a ship from the ground up if the characters are interested in drawing a reaction out of each other. I can see Obito getting attached and becoming extremely weird about it, which is always a plus. Obito has the canonical Uchiha problem of really imprinting on his precious people so I think it could end up being quite fun if written from an "Obito is erratic and unwell and Deidara is just beginning to realise he's bitten off more than he can chew," perspective. Good ship vibes.

2. Itachi/Kisame

Nobody writes this ship as a Kisame, who hates lies, deceiving himself about the character of Itachi, whose entire acquaintanceship with him is based on a lie, and I understand that this is extremely complicated to manage from a character perspective. In my heart this is a complicated relationship between a guilty and increasingly sick Itachi who can't quite dedicate himself fully to his partner, and a wilfully (as opposed to medically) blind Kisame who absolutely can.

Anyway, we love a ship that features a giant toothy violent dude whose leash is very loosely held by a consumptive teenager who is, deceptively, capable of equal or greater violence.

Also, service top Kisame. Like... yeah?? Obviously. I'm into that.

5. Masaya's last moments before his sacrifice

When Masaya just takes a moment to hold Ichigo close, run his fingers through her hair, hug her and pet her and be with her for a little while longer.

Masaya's never felt very attached to his life. He always felt like the world would be better without humans, and he included himself in that when he spoke. I think some part of him was always subconsciously ready to give up the ghost and hand himself off to Deep Blue.

But here, in this moment, where he's about to sacrifice his life to heal the earth in a similar way to how he's always thought he should, he hesitates. He's found this precious feeling he wants to hold dear. He's scared to die for the first time, because for the first time, he feels like he has something to lose.

But he'll do it. For her. He just wants this last moment.

And afterwards, even as Deep Blue tries to claw back control, Masaya holds back a god and either kills himself, or holds them down to let Ichigo finish them off. And he dies with a smile, because at least he knew her, at the end of it all.

4. Masaya encouraging Ichigo to fight in A La Mode

Masaya had a character arc throughout Tokyo Mew Mew about how scared he was when Ichigo put her life in danger to fight. He went from worrying about how she's holding up out there and feeling utterly useless to do anything, to unlocking Blue Knight to protect her, to fully awakening as Blue Knight and vowing to fight by Ichigo's sides as equals who uplift and support each other.

And now, when Ichigo's powers are slowly coming back to her after they've both died and come back to life for each other, Ichigo is the one who's worried that she's not sure what she can do, for her friends or for the Earth.

And Masaya pulls her aside, and reassures her that he knows she's strong. There's plenty she can do, and the others need her. He trusts her to fight, believes in her power and her might, knows that she's strong enough that even if they have to part ways right now, they'll still find each other when he comes back for her.

He helps her remember her strength at her lowest moments. He helps her awaken this confidence she deserves.

3. Ichigo and Blue Knight fighting together side-by-side

This one doesn't really need a full analysis to go with it.

They're a power couple, and probably the two most powerful beings in the entire verse of Tokyo Mew Mew, and I love that for them.

2. The confession in the rain

Classic moment, beautiful in all forms.

Ichigo's run all this way in the pouring rain. Her phone is broken, the concert is practically over, she's so late that she's sure he's already left. She's terrified that he'll hate her forever.

But Masaya's there. Masaya stood in the rain all night, for hours, waiting. Because he told her they'd meet there, and he was worried about the fight at the tower, but all he could do right now was wait for her.

We get to see Ichigo's determination, her raw emotions, her conflict in her double life. It's so good to see just how overjoyed Ichigo is when this finally goes right, and she finally gets to hear him say that he loves her. She's been through so much all day, she deserves this joy.

We even got to see the emotions in this scene broken down from both their perspectives, and it's just... perfect. Every moment of it.

And it's even better in Tokyo Mew Mew New, because in that one, Masaya notices the ears and expertly plays dumb by placing a handkerchief over her himself! That added touch elevates an already awesome scene to new heights!

1 Ichigo taking the lead in Tokyo Mew Mew ReTurn

This is a culmination of Ichigo's character arc.

She's confident, straightforward, knows she's powerful, knows what she wants.

She's passionate about the earth, and proud of her passion and love in all departments. She's not deterred or embarrassed by the cat ears and tails popping up anymore. She knows who and what she is, and she loves it. She's found this amazing depth of self-actualization and self-love, and it shines in this little moment.

Masaya is afraid of things changing, but he sees this, sees how Ichigo has changed and how happy she is for that growth, and suddenly, his fear of change is abetted. Because in whatever ways they change, whatever the future holds for them, they'll just come closer and closer together.

Lord Oyster is really going through it, huh

He seems to be some kind of controversial topic right now, and I think he's a really interesting case! I wanna offer my two cents

! I'm NOT seeking to apologize for or defend Lord Oyster's actions, that's not what I want to do at all. I'm gonna do my best to analyze him instead, just as someone who appreciates his character for what it is, no specific side

||| SPOILERS PRESENT & Lengthy Post

◇ The common perceptions of Lord Oyster's character

One side conceives him as this big villain who's outrageously evil (or so it seems people think of him as, with this massive hate he's getting)

The other side isn't doing much better. at all. with their 'he's an angel! how can you hate him!!' claims just because he started of this story with kindness and felt remorse after his decision that ended with terrible consequences

How about considering Loyster a morally grey character?

He absolutely isn't purely good, but in no way is he purely bad either. Abalone is the villain of this story, everything he does is at the expense of others for his own personal gain. To Abalone, everyone is expendable, everyone's a tool to be used for his own success and he will do anything to achieve his goals

Seeing people compare Loyster to Abalone, or say they're similar, is. insane, to say the least . Hell, seeing him competing with Custard for most hated npc is WILD.

Lord Oyster has done good before, if you've seen the first half of the story, it'd be very clear that he cares for White Pearl! Ever since they met, they've been bonding with each other, and even towards the end, Lord Oyster harboured no hate or ill thoughts towards her. He still considered her his moon

That doesn't redeem him, though. In the end, he still made a bad decision, remember that as well as you remember the good he's done, too. I'll touch on this again later

◇ I agree, his decision was pretty ass, but let's look into it

Honestly, there appeared to be NO positive outcome in favour of everyone. A tragedy was always set to happen eventually

Had Loyster not sold the pearl to Abalone, the pearl probably would have been taken by force instead. Abalone was willing to do anything to get it

If the pearl was stolen, House Oyster would have fallen, and the mermaids still would have suffered another attack.

Abalone was always planning to return to sea and comb it for treasures that's rake in a fortune for him, with or without that pearl. He was always going to go back and attempt an attack on the mermaids again, the pearl only makes him stronger with its abilities (Cookies won't get soggy underwater, and they'll be able to breathe)

Had the pearl been kept and remained in Loyster's possession, the House would have fallen. His goals wouldn't have been achieved, it'd be over for his entire family. No one wanted to do business with them except for the Crab family, so out of desperation, he sold the pearl to Abalone, who cunningly made a 'steal of a deal' offer

◇ The hate stems from here, I'm sure

After everything, this really is not so easy to defend when you see that Loyster, even through his stressed state of mind and the burden of his House collapsing, still weighed the options.

Yes, he chose money over White Pearl's gift that she gave with love. Desperate at best, you can understand he needed this money for his whole family, not for selfish gain. But at worst, it wasn't the smartest decision. He knew what Abalone was capable of, I don't know why he was so shocked to see them go out to sea so soon after getting the pearl.

He knew what the pearl meant to White Pearl, and it was precious to himself, too

Ultimately, he chose the needs of his family instead. Which really isn't unreasonable, those are his loved ones, of course he'd want the best for them, and Abalone's offer must have seemed opportune at that time

BUT. Once again, Loyster should have taken more time than just like a minute considering the offer. Abalone gave him a chance to think about it if he needed to, and he didn't take it

◇ The regret does not redeem him, however...

He can feel sorry, he should be, but that doesn't make him all good again. That doesn't fix the consequences of his decision, the one he made all on his own.

But his love and concern for White Pearl are still there, genuinely. He realises his stupid decision is aiding Abalone and his crew in a fresh attack so soon, and decides that rather than leaving it be, he needed to find her. To rescue her.

White Pearl's rightfully disgruntled, knowing the cookie who was once her sea had betrayed her, on top of everything else going on. She denies Loyster a chance to explain himself, and it's completely understandable. She's hurt and angry, her family is suffering, and Loyster is partly to blame for it. Abalone wouldn't be out so soon had he not obtained the pearl, and his power is at its peak now with the eclipse happening simultaneously

He didn't want this to happen, and he never would have wished for it. He feels remorse for what he's done, and he tries to fix it ever so slightly by going after White Pearl. That's something! It shows he does have heart, but even so, he messed up badly. Though nothing can really change that, his effort after figuring out he screwed up shows he means to be no villain.

His decision was bad, and really stupid, that's for sure, but it didn't come from a place of hatred, or greed, or pure selfishness. You understand what I'm saying here?

The main reason I made this post at all was really because the major misconceptions really bothered me (the 'he's an absolute devil' and 'oh no he's an innocent angel' takes, to be exact, because he is certainly neither of those)

Whether your opinion changes or not after reading this is purely up to you, you could have just read this for fun and that'd still be alright with me! So, that just about wraps up all my strong thoughts on Loyster so far, hope it was interesting at least
