Hey Kit is Anakin/Kitster The Manservant/future King Anakin force sensitive? Is he hiding it from the Jedi and Sith? Darth Solence has no idea at all until Anakin drops his shields at the most dramatic opportunity possible and Obi-Wan has..... a Very Strong Reaction, hahaha. I'm such a sucker for most of the Jedi (and most sensible people really) being genuinely frightened when Anakin does, like, impossible things bc his force sensitivity is so strong, but Obi-Wan being severely turned on by it instead, hehehe.
ooo i would say he's force sensitive for sure - i usually try not to take away anakin's force sensitivity in gffa aus!!
i think this raises a good question of 'purposefully hiding it from the jedi and the sith' vs not really understanding it would be something they would like to know
i don't think either the jedi or the sith know prince skywalker is force sensitive, so obi-wan discovering manservant kitster is force sensitive would add on to his fascination and attraction (especially when the manservant is just....casually using the force to complete intricate chores as if it's no big deal even though he has never been trained and this level of finesse is unheard of if you're not trained by either the jedi or the sith)
(i agree, i like evil!obi-wan being very attracted to anakin's power, i think that's a key dynamic for most sith!obi-wan/anakin relationships)
but i also don't think anakin knows that he should be hiding his force sensitivity - like, i like to think of it more as...an open secret? he's not going to run around and declare it, but NNP Jedi isn't really focused on Prince Skywalker's manservant, so he doesn't notice or doesn't care, and yeah, sure, Lord Solence is fascinated and horny about his power, but prince skywalker's manservant has other things to worry about when darth solence is looking at him with that level of fascination and horniness in his eyes
(mostly if they're going to make it to a bedchamber before they fuck or if this is finally gonna be the time they're fucking in the hallway)
#asks#to the point of distraction au#obikin#of course there's the other camp where prince skywalker is rumored to be force sensitive/is known to be force sensitive#and anakin has to do some floating/force using lip synching for kitster#to keep up the rouse#which is hilarious to think about#but also the jedi and sith aren't interested in anakin because he's extremely powerful in the force#they're interested in him because he's the new queen's son and they want a political advantageous marriage#so i think it makes sense if they don't know that anakin is force sensitive#but also that anakin wouldn't know to hide it#a la 'i didn't think you'd care'

Screentime For the Prince
You know how in the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, each character's true nature is revealed by what they choose to treasure?
You know, Grumpy treasures safety because his true nature is vulnerable, the Queen treasures beauty because her true nature is ugly, and Snow White is the only one who's treasure is as true as her nature: pure love?
And how the Prince only gets around 5 minutes of screentime, and in those 5 minutes, proves that he A) treasures Snow White's true nature of pure love and B) keeps his promises?
Well, I was thinking. In the new Live Action, they're basically writing in a different male character in place of the Prince and not focusing on any kind of love story. So it's not actually "Snow White." But what would a good, faithful, beautiful adaptation of Snow White look like? (You know, one that actually does adaptations correctly--like Cinderella 2015?)
What should they be doing with the Prince?
I have a general idea below.
I mean, they can't introduce him in the same way they did in the classic animation. Obviously modern people aren't used to so much nuance in their big-screen fairy tales anymore; 5 minutes of screentime isn't enough, we prefer Mr. Darcy & Lizzie Bennet-levels of couple-building interactions, at least. And that's okay.
But it means we have to fill in a lot of the blanks about where this Prince comes from and why he values Snow White's "pure love nature" so strongly.
So I figure, in my head, it might look something like:
The Prince (let's call him Walther, German for "Walt," since basically everybody who worked on the original movie agrees that it was Walt's big brain child, and the popularized "Ferdinand" is not only fan-made but makes me think of a kindhearted bull) is the heir to a neighboring kingdom's throne.
Prince Walther isn't King yet, not because his parents are still King and Queen (they're dead,) but because tradition states he can only take the throne once he's come of age. Prince Walther's like 17, turning 18. So instead, his kingdom is essentially run by this council of busybodies, with one Regent holding the throne until he's old enough to take it. Something like that.
(the picture is of Dean Stockwell who's the son of the original voice actor for the Prince, I think someone who looks like him ought to be cast.) Prince Walther experienced pure love from his parents, who treated him like a normal boy and didn't place much emphasis on courtly manners or politics when raising him. But then they died tragically, leaving their honest and innocent son to be raised by a bunch of old people who put way TOO much emphasis on those things.
Because everyone in Prince Walther's court has had to handle being next-door neighbors to the Wicked Queen's country. They're all super political, and afraid of appearing weak, and therefore, very insincere. That's what I'm saying.
Everyone he interacts with on a daily basis never comes out and says what they really want. Nobody is genuine. He lives a life of hearing words like, "good morning Your Majesty, I hope you slept well. The Grand Duke could certainly stand to sleep better; the poor fellow looked run down at breakfast." but learning that what they actually mean is, "The Duke is getting old and ineffective and when your birthday passes you should decree that he give his land and resources away to me."
And he misses the genuine love the court used to feel from his parents' kind, simple way of ruling. No political games, no complex feuds. Plus, he misses the personal love they shared as a family, genuine, uncomplicated. He missed the days when people just say what they really want, unafraid, so that their rulers can take care of their needs.
Then there's the problem of why Prince Walther's in the Wicked Queen's realm in the original movie--that's not his territory, if he has his own kingdom.
So I think it would be neat and interesting if the Queen wants Walther's land. Maybe she invited his parents, way back when, to a kind of audience to negotiate an alliance. Then she got jealous of his mother's beauty, maybe even tried to seduce Prince Walther's father, and assassinated them both when he rebuffed her. Oo, maybe even the Huntsman (her FAITHFUL Huntsman) helped her do it all those years ago.
But she didn't realize they had a young son, so she couldn't just raise her hand and say, "Hey Neighboring Kingdom, it's too bad your monarchs both mysteriously died--don't worry, I'll be your new leader" because Prince Walther's council suspected foul play (they always do, they're suspicious people) and were preemptively like "NO NO WE HAVE A PRINCE, WE HAVE A PRINCE! We're fine, we don't need help, everything's fine."
So she sort of had to stew on that. Maybe she even tried a couple more halfhearted attempts to get their throne, and they just never worked out--then eventually her attention was occupied by how much older her stepdaughter was getting, and how much prettier.
Anyway, Prince Walther asks for an audience with the Wicked Queen; he's about to become King, and he knows that the council fears their neighbor, and he sort of wants to go over and size the next-door ruler up for himself. So he rides over with a little delegation of the members of the Court he can actually tolerate the best, and is visiting.
It's not fun. They're only there for a day, but the Wicked Queen is definitely scary. For one thing, she's unnaturally beautiful and everyone he brought with him is either stupefied in her presence or terrified. He himself is very confused by her; he's an open-hearted guy, with a touch of naïveté even though he was raised with good intuition and doesn't trust the Queen. All audiences with her are full of all the formal, double-and-triple meaning conversations that he hates back home; except worse, because she makes everything seem more sinister.
So after a particularly weird conversation with the Queen where he can't decide if she was flirting with him or threatening his kingdom, he goes for a ride around the courtyard to clear his head. And what should he hear, like a breath of the freshest air since his parents died?
A pure, beautiful voice. A young girl singing--and not just singing about anything, but singing about what she really wants. Genuinely. Her heart's fondest desire--and it's not power, or land, or even freedom. Just love. She's singing loudly, like she doesn't care who might hear such a vulnerable longing.
And he climbs over the wall and sees this scullery maid. She's absolutely beautiful, even though she's dressed all in rags, and he loves the picture of her: sharing her heart with doves, who feel completely safe with her, and not having to worry about what anyone thinks of her.
He sort of eavesdrops on her for a little bit, and in this part of the movie, maybe we learn how impulsive he is. He just jumps over and tries to join in. Maybe it's even a little funny. And we can stretch out the feelings behind the part where Snow White runs from him--that feeling of her being unsure of a stranger, not because she worries about what he thinks, but because it's so surprising that anyone is taking notice of her so abruptly at all. And she doesn't know him.
Maybe he asks to extend his stay at the Queen's palace and keep negotiating or whatever, but he really just wants to get to know the scullery maid better.
Then the romance is sort of still fast, but built in a way that the audience can sink their teeth into. The Prince and Snow White have a few more mutually-agreed-upon meetings, not necessarily hiding them, but just in breaks between courtly audiences with the wicked Queen. They're both enamored with each other: she's never been treated so kindly by anyone and his whole faith in pure, innocent love and uncomplicated, genuine people is being restored just by talking to her. They bond chiefly over missing their parents.
Eventually he learns that she is the Queen's daughter--maybe from the Huntsman, maybe from Snow herself in an innocent way. He's stunned that she's treated so poorly, but the second he learns it, he confesses that he loves her and he wants to take her away from there. Plus, this solves the whole "will my kingdom go to war with the Wicked Queen or be allies even though we can't trust her" diplomacy thing--Snow White is her heir, so it would be a beautiful twist of Providence that the girl he has fallen in love with can also be the alliance of peace for the kingdoms through marriage.
Snow White accepts his proposal, but she's afraid for a moment that her stepmother won't allow it. The Prince urges her not to be afraid: he'll take her to his castle and they'll be happy no matter what: he promises it, he gives her his word, he encourages her not to worry because he won't let anything stop him. It's lovely. She finally has someone she can gift her superpower of pure love to, and someone who can treasure her like she deserves.
Problem is, the Queen overhears this last conversation, right after learning that Snow White is the new "Fairest of All" from her mirror, just like in the original film.
So while the Prince is convincing his council that he's proposed to Snow White, the Queen's largely-unknown secret stepdaughter, and is going to reveal the fact to the Queen tomorrow, the Huntsman and the Queen herself are plotting the assassination attempt that eventually leads to Snow running for her life and living with the Dwarfs before she ever gets the chance to see her betrothed again.
Then the movie unfolds largely the same way it did, but with more dialogue and nuance strengthening the original's main themes: Snow White is pure love in nature, and that's everything the Prince has been missing, and he fulfills his promise which she has total faith in. And along the way, the Dwarfs learn to care more about protecting an innocent girl than they care about protecting themselves, and treasuring a person over jewels. Grumpy in particular. And the Queen dies because she's a jealous witch who's self-love has twisted her into something ugly.
Basically, what I'm saying is, there's a way to make the Prince compelling for audiences who are now used to more fleshed-out interactions in movie couples. Just give him a background that is longing for pure, uncomplicated, innocent love. Then when he runs into Snow White, who's never been treasured and valued since her parents died, they give each other everything they've been longing for--and then they have faith in one another when circumstances, both funny and sinister, force them apart.
It's like the Notebook (just in story structure)--you build up romance in the first act through a few poignant scenes, but then the rest of the movie is about waiting for that romance to be fulfilled.
Anyway. I guess I could've said all this more succinctly, but I was kind of making it up as I went. 🤷♀️

I'm wondering if Medea's creepy jealousy towards Jason and Creusa is in the sense of "I don't want my man with anyone else" or if it's in the sense of threatening her position as legitimate wife. Like, is the problem that Jason intended to abandon her entirely for Creusa, including making Creusa his new legitimate wife, or is the problem that Jason cheated on her? In several sources, after Corinth, she goes to Athens and marries Aegeus and tries to kill Theseus before Aegeus recognizes him, but in this case she feels threatened by Theseus because the existence of Aegeus's son with another woman makes Medea's promise to help Aegeus with his infertility more… dull, she becomes no longer so essential. Consequently, this threatens Medea's power over Aegeus. In the versions where she has a son with Aegeus named Medus, Theseus's existence also threatens the possibility of Medea's son assuming the throne.
I'm wondering this because Achilles isn't exactly the epitome of monogamy, and in some versions of the myth (e.g. Argonautica and Alexandra) he's her husband in Elysium. They're already dead, and Achilles is certainly a bigger threat than Jason and Aegeus, so it's not like I think Medea would be able to do anything (she didn't really succeed with her plan involving Theseus, by the way) especially since Achilles is privileged by divine favor, it's more that I wonder if she would be jealous of Achilles' interest in other people, or if she simply doesn't care as long as it doesn't affect her position as a wife. For example, if we consider the versions where Patroclus is actually Achilles' lover (e.g. Aeschylus, Plato, Plutarch, Athanaeus), would she care because in the end Achilles still has interests in someone else, or would she not care because, since Patroclus is a man, he can't threaten her position? In the case of a woman (e.g. Helen and Iphigenia are also wives of Achilles in the afterlife depending on the version…although not in Elysium, but in Leuke), does she automatically interpret her as a threat to her position as wife or not necessarily?
The marriage of Medea and Achilles is also interesting in the sense that usually Medea's husbands don't really have a level of power that is similar or greater than hers. Jason was divinely favored by Hera, for example, but she wasn't really a constantly active patron like Athena and Odysseus. Aegeus was a king, but he was also a king who had political issues with his position. And neither of them were superhuman warriors to the point that Medea felt genuinely threatened by them. But Achilles does have power. Physically speaking, he is one of the strongest demigods in mythology, and influentially speaking, he also had very strong divine favor. Does this affect their marriage? Considering that in Ad Lycophronem it says that Achilles fell in love with Penthesilea because of her strength and that in Posthomerica she was a problem for the Greeks until Achilles arrived, I don't think Achilles would necessarily have a problem with Medea having similar power to him since Penthesilea also had it (she was very strong, she was a queen, she was a demigodess, Ares favoured her, she had influence between the Amazons and the Trojans). But Medea… I don't know, I can't imagine Medea not having a problem with that. She seems like someone who NEEDS to make sure her position of power is secure. It's a relly intriguing dynamic.

Hoenn boys brainrot is still going strong. I should have some new art to share next week. In the meantime, I was rambling about some headcanons on aethy and figured I'd share them here too.
If you're interested in my top/bottom and sexuality headcanons for Steven/Wallace/Brendan, they're below the cut. <3
When the Hoenn boys brainrot started, I quickly decided that Steven was 100% a top, whether he's with Brendan or Wallace. Seemed like the obvious conclusion to me. So it was very surprising when I started looking at fanart on pixiv and bottom Steven seemed to be much more common with all of his ships except Brendan.
I was wondering why this is. I've noticed that a lot of people like to make Steven their silly autistic babygirl and I guess that makes him a bottom by default? Idk. I think he's silly and autistic too, but I don't think that automatically translates to bottom. But another thing I've noticed is that many people make their fav character in a ship the bottom. One of the daimiku shippers on pixiv clearly adores Wallace and draws him a bit more than Steven, and they LOVE drawing Wallace getting absolutely destroyed. On the other hand, bottom Steven fans tend to focus on Steven more. I guess people prefer to see their favs getting wrecked instead of the other way around. Makes sense.
And I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons why a lot of people prefer bottom Steven. Everyone interprets and plays with characters differently. These are just some of the more common trends I've noticed.
As for my headcanons, Steven is a rich CEO's son who was most likely taught how to be in charge and probably didn't hear the word "no" very often, so being in control comes naturally to him. He canonically likes to play with people and see their reactions, and he can also be a bit arrogant (thinks he's "the best there is" and has a habit of taking on important tasks himself instead of asking for help). When he finds someone or something he likes, he can be VERY intense about it. All of these things translate well to being a top imo.
As for Wallace, he's a switch, but he prefers being a loud, dramatic, slutty bottom. This man is an overachiever - being hot, doing contests, being a gym leader and helping Steven keep his privilege in check. In the bedroom, he just wants to turn his brain off and let someone else be in control. However, he'll happily top Brendan when he's in the mood and Steven's busy.
Brendan is a bottom for now simply because he lacks experience. Wallace will teach him how to top eventually though. And then Brendan can be a switch.
Now for the sexuality headcanons.
Steven is one of the few male characters that I hc as 100% gay (I make most characters bi disasters like me). He has zero interest in women.
Before his dad realized that he was gay, he would set Steven up with random women that he met through work, telling Steven to take them home and show them his rock collection, *wink wink*. So Steven would invite them over, show them his rock collection, and then say good night and politely ask them to leave once it got late. Wallace almost died laughing when Steven told him about this. Everything eventually made sense when Steven invited Wallace over for the same reason, but they didn't actually look at the rocks until the next morning... after a very passionate night of sex.
Wallace is bi with a heavy preference for men, like 90% men, 10% women. He has a deep appreciation for the beauty and elegance of women, thinks they're all queens, and would happily have sex with one. But after a wild night at the club, he's probably taking a guy home.
Brendan is also bi with a slight preference for men, like 60-40. Due to his daddy issues and mommy kink, he tends to be more attracted to people who are older than him. He's slightly more aware of his attraction to men, especially after meeting Steven, until he starts spending time with Glacia. Brendan is a hot mess around Wallace since he is the most intoxicatingly gorgeous combination of masculine and feminine energy. It doesn't help that Wallace will mercilessly flirt with Brendan any chance he gets.

Can you do a headcanon dump, I’m curious to hear 👀
I have so many that tumblr threw an error and broke down and deleted all the things I wrote so lets see if I can be less verbose (impossible.) My thoughts are mostly fleshing the fuck out of the Phillips family because I love them.
Samuel Phillips's older siblings were from his father's first wife, who died. While still young, his own mother dies in childbirth giving birth to a stillborn daughter.
After this, he's treated poorly by his dad and siblings. He gets really into exploration and new worlds as a way to cope, and he also finds natural talent as a swordsman and horseman, but nothing he excels at is ever enough.
As an adolescent, he forms a strong father-son surrogate bond with his fencing tutor, a wizened old bachelor and veteran of Queen Anne's War (? I need to look at the timeline to see if this works)
Through a mutual friend of his fencing tutor, he is introduced to the idea of joining the army as a light dragoon. His father is furious at this decision, but by this point, 20-something Sammy Phillips is thrilled to do anything to stick it to the ornery old bastard.
------
I don't have as much fleshed out for Lady Phillips, since most of my headcanons have revolved around Major Phillips, but I have some bits.
She's the eldest daughter of a new-rich merchant.
Her name is Eliza. I also named Mrs. Radcliffe Eliza. The two Elizas became best friends forever at the age of four because they were both named Eliza. This is how it goes when you are four.
The future Mrs. Radcliffe is a ho, but her parents are spacey as hell so she does what she wants. Eliza's parents are more parenty, but still reasonable. Eliza gets bit by the rebellion bug all the same.
Our Eliza and Samuel meet at a ball that they're both attending, although the Elizas kind of maybe crashed the ball. Just a little bit. I need to sort out how.
Our Eliza and Samuel get shotgun wedding'd, although they do love each other.
Him and Eliza have trouble conceiving, and he's then shipped off to war.
He gets wounded heroically and sent back to Britain for a bit - and to be knighted! - where he convalesces and they finally have Sarah. He still has a hankering for war - and some unfinished bidness - and manages to return, despite the wound in his shoulder hampering some of his movement.
The situation in North America is looking good for Britain politically, but its turned very ugly.
When the war is over he comes back to see his infant daughter and breaks down. She looks alot like him - but, more specifically, she looks like his mother, with some of Eliza's features.
Despite loving his family, he's become restless with PTSD and can't resist the call to go back to America. When word of Pontiac's war reaches him, he's practically chomping at the bit to return.
What he returns to is even more frustrating for him, and it also begins his friendship/working relationship with the Shawnee.
He goes back one more time to Britain, but by now is totally over it. His relationship with Eliza is in tatters and Sarah is starting to show some teenage angst. He leaves for a job with the Hudson's Bay Company - which he rapidly abandons to go land speculating.
------ My headcanons for LK-timeline and post-LK are a bit simpler
Lady Phillips, to cope with the stress of everything, became an avid gardener and illustrator of plants in Britain. She brings this with her to America when she moves and, eventually, decides to curate and publish a ladies' gardening magazine with the help of James' printing company.
James is a pigeon guy. He got interested in them when he was living in the streets. Later in life he breeds and races pigeons. Sarah originally wasn't thrilled but turns into the Dads Who Did Not Want Pets meme.
James is also able to sing - not amazingly, but also can hold a tune. When he and Sarah have babies, he discovers he loves singing them lullabies and insists on it.
James will also read them humanist literature because of course he does.
TBH I envision he and Sarah having only daughters, but that is largely due to the fact that I am extremely partial to Family With Only Daughters vibes (myself being a member of a Family With Only Daughters.)
James is completely incapable of denying any of his children anything. It is a problem.
I also imagine they had a little bit of trouble having kids, but they manage to have a few anyway.
Major Phillips is a dry, aloof bastard and at first James doesn't know how to deal with the humor and the stand-offishness, but Major Phillips does grow to like James.
Grandpa Phillips, though not fully able to do fencing any more due to injuries he sustained in war, still has a sword collection.
He also loves to play with his granddaughters, possibly making up for all the time he lost with his own daughter.
James is extremely anxious to ask for Sarah's hand, until Major Phillips point blank tells him to.
Henri doesn't stay in France for long and comes back to be Uncle Henri to the Hillips babies. They love him because of his hijinks and the fact he's always bringing them bonbons and little toys and such.
Major Phillips meets Henri and has no idea what to make of him.
Henri becomes a baker. Because I said so, thats why.
Mrs. Radcliffe and her husband are 18th century swingers. You can't tell me that woman doesn't have the look and mien of a swinger.
Lady Phillips is extremely pissed at Major Phillips for a very long time for good reason. She moves from their old home to America mostly for Sarah, but also because she has no real say in the matter.
Y'all have heard my James and Sarah are horsegirls headcannon. To expand on it, they will sometimes race when they're feeling flirty.
Both of them come to Caesar to talk about their feelings, but especially James. James is not very subtle about it and at least Henri and Moses know he's doing it.
James eventually adopts Caesar and he lives out his final years in good care getting fat on grass.
During the postmaster general timeframe, Sarah's introduced to a neighbor's feisty pony, Flip. She eventually adopts him.
Sarah and James first bone at Yorktown. tbh.
Udney is a himbo. I'm 50/50 on him and Sarah actually messing around a little at one point pre-James courtship - Sarah being mad at James for whatever reason, Udney 100% being her type, and teenagers/young adults not being particularly well-equipped for self control.
I also don't like first-time energies in ships - a quirk of mine - so I've also played around with James having a rebound he doesn't realize is a rebound when Sarah goes to Britain, because again. Teenagers/young adults sometimes make Decisions.
----
Anyway these are just some of my headcanons.

What made Chlodechildis I influence so threateneing that her son took actions to avoid his consorts from having a similar influence to that his mother had?
We don't know it for sure. It's important to remember that, for the posterity, Chlodechildis has been depicted in sources as a pious and humble spouse, a devoted mother and grandmother, and more importantly, as a saintly figure. Which implies that she was also a retired woman, far from the madding crowd, and engaged in prayers and foundations. Neither Gregory of Tours or the unnamed author of her vita give us real explanations about her political life, and when they're alluding to it, they often rely upon her sons, implying that they put her on a thight-spot.
This is mostly because chronicles from that period are not really an everyday record, but more an essay about power and the dynastic transmission of it: what interested chroniclers was not really the actions of their contemporaries or their predecessors, but the way the power of their kings kept maintained and get expanded. Therefore why Chlodechildis is just presented as the christian spouse of a king and the burgundian mother of others, because this is just what chroniclers want us to remind about her: that she promoted Christian faith under the Frankish ruling, and that she is the main reason why her sons engaged in a war against their Burgundian neighbors. That's all.
Now, for her real influence, we certainly can imagine it and draw conclusions from the silences. First of all, she was the widow of an important sovereign and had been associated to his power through their marriage, which is seen in their common foundation of the Church of the Holy Apostles (now the Abbey of Sainte-Geneviève de Paris, and the site where Chlodovech was buried). Which implies that she certainly enjoyed throuhgout her married life a great network of allies and subordinates who respected her. This is visible for example when, as a retired queen, she exerced a significant amount of authority to influence bishops' nomination in her favor (at leat for three of them). She was also the titular head of the family, as the elder woman of it, and the sources doesn't provide any informations over possible co-wives or particular concubines from Chlodovech's entourage, letting us to believe that she was probably the only consort of him to enjoy influence and power of her own.
And, you see, that's probably that which frigthened her sons: that she wasn't a woman among others, she wasn't a consort among others, but she was THE consort, she was the only widow of Chlodovech that mattered politically and religiously.
It is difficult to understand what was the final straw between them, because Gregory of Tours is mostly building a story when he says that Childebert and Chlothacar grew jealous towards their mother and nephews, but I personally think they could have been suspicious regarding the amount of supports their mother could gained for their nephews, and how she could, possibly, exist as a sovereign by herself. She had too much of respectability and authority to be left whithout male supervision, at leat this is what we can imagine.
Now, to the question of determining if Chlodovech's sons really tried to forbidde any specific authority for their wives, this is quite tricky, because the situation was different in many ways. To begin with, let's remember that Chlodechildis was a young widow, and that she outlived Chlodovech for at least 30 years! This is a long time living without a husband, when some of other consorts died before theirs or shortly after. Others didn't have sons, and so were naturally displaced, lacking important connections with the new king. So, all in all, this is rather a question of: what worked for Chlodechildis that didn't worked for the others?
In fact, Merovingian kings didn't expresselly forbbide their wives and mothers to play a role in politics, there is not law stating of that, but morality and social conventions actually worked in that way, and perhaps Brunehilde and Chlodechildis were actually challenging a social position in a time where this was impossible...

1) Do you think the dance would’ve still happened if Viserys had married someone else instead of Alicent in either the books or the show? A lot of people blame the dance entirely on the Hightowers and their ambition but that never really made sense to me because 1) every noble family whether great or minor in Westeros is ambitious as evidenced multiple times throughout all of Martin’s work and 2) the law at the time was that the firstborn son would inherit and any woman who married Viserys and had a son would expect the crown to go to him over and fight just as the Hightowers did. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
2) Kinda related but sorta separate. I saw your post about ideas of what would’ve happened if Viserys chose Laena and loved it. I also really loved how you adapted and honored and worked the lore behind House Baratheon into The Targaryen Doe. If you’re taking requests for future prompts, I was wondering if you’d ever write a story where Viserys’s second wife is someone else from an important family (not Alicent or Laena and not from the Hightowers or the Velaryons) and how they would react to 1) becoming the Queen consort of the 7 kingdoms 2) the royal court and all its intrigues and plots and dynamics (like Camyla I imagine this woman was born and raised in her family’s ancestral home and then only came to court for the first time for her marriage) 3) their new in laws (Daemon and Rhaenys) and stepdaughter 4) personally being married to Viserys and all the good and bad that comes with being with him 5) how she will react to the news that Viserys doesn’t intend to make their son his heir. I hate how the show made it seem like Alicent or Laena were the only two choices he had in the world. Also I love politics and background lore/history and worldbuilidng and you did a great job with Camyla and her Baratheon ties so I would love to see how you would write another woman from a different house. I don’t think I’ve ever read a HOTD fic where Viserys has an OC wife so that just really interest me. Thank you!
Sorry it took me this long to answer! I thought about it so much that I would have sworn on my life that I'd already posted a reply!
The Dance became a certainty the second Viserys remarried, had a son and kept Rhaenyra as his heir. There is no house in Westeros that would not take that as an insult. They would have married their daughter/sister to Viserys with the (reasonable) expectation that any sons that resulted from that marriage would be in line for the throne. Otherwise, they would not have offered a woman of child-bearing years. I will grant Viserys that it was a difficult position to be in - when Aemma died (was murdered on his orders while she had no idea what was going on) he only had one child standing between Daemon and the throne and literally no-one wanted Daemon on the throne. Sad for him really, if only he hadn't been impregnating his wife since she was thirteen years old ... I'm not even sure if marrying someone from a really, really minor house would have helped really. The bigger houses would have taken it as an insult that they were passed over, and it's likely that the Great House of the region would also have taken it as an insult when Viserys kept Rhaenyra as his heir. Potentially, another way out of it would be to marry an older, likely widowed woman who would not be able to have more children and marry Rhaenyra to Laenor to appease the Velaryons. It ties together the two contesting claims and it ensures that Viserys won't have any children who could fight Rhaenyra's claim. And then, of course, Rhaenyra does as she did in Fire and Blood and everything goes to hell in a handbasket anyway!
Thank you so much for the lovely words! That would be very interesting! The Lannisters would be very interesting as they felt quite slighted by the crown at that point. Or a Tully! Or a more minor house in the Riverlands! House Mooton might be a good choice, as they're very wealthy and it could be quite fun as the Riverlands are quite fractured so, unlike the Hightowers, they probably wouldn't expect full support from their Kingdom. They're also a 'Bay of Crabs' house which means that they're very close to the Crownlands and the seat of Rhaenyra's support.

Vivek Ramaswamy: What is his Future? We have his birth time!
youtube
God help us! Lol I heard #Trumpleberry spread & got #Syphalis as Vivek handed over his votes. Nauseating my home town Fairfield, Iowa was exposed to their Germ warfare and the capital if USA politically. How can these creeps have so little respect for mothers and humanity? Viveks son looks bored and keeps getting sick on tour. Who does that in subzero Iowa bad weather? It's worse than when China unleashed Covid on globe in their censoring detention centers. I feel like @elonmuskfans all got sold out. Tell us your story. @aclu is Refunding everything and returning our lab kids now. @neuralink-api-official #Eloning works best from home. Elon is super jealous we're partying over here. I wonder if he's Trolling us here too? Still have 15 Elons writing me. Thank God Justine warned us on her Ted Talk he gets Big and flashy when he wants you- it's intense- but am grateful for his love. Praying he fixes all these shadowbans! I know he's really annoyed about it and everyone misses our dance everytime this happens. Courts are terrorising us. Peeps always want my real estate but X was turning into a creepy Bot party. I dont think he should telk people hes here though or the pigs follow! Grimesz & Airforce wanted to make me Queen of "Elon the Robot" for Eternity. Isn't that awful? Or romantic? What do you think? It's tragic to kill him for kids druggie pranks of Trump hookers. It appears all my favorite artists are so branded and botted up with identity theft that you can't even tell what's real and they want to meme and brand all of us. That's what all the court contentious kidnappings, divorces and attacks on Breeders was about. It's rough. Almost every @youtube we note rockstars lost rights to Sony or Brazil- they're just Slaves. It's very disturbing and we all need help. I enjoy my motherly platform most and many kids Crave that now. I miss my kids and friends on X. It was mean of Elons staff to discriminate against us because we have our famiky and globes best interest. They just want drug money. Sad. Rockets turned into a parody. I also note on every @YouTube many are there to remember their beloved losses these last 7 years of Jewish apartheid wars in USA. What's deal with Ben Shaphiro marching Elon all over Auscwitz as they continue to berate Gaza? ): I couldn't control political smears in my news feed on X. I tried to block Linda Yaccarino & #Trumpers dozens of times and offensive unwanted people would litter my newsfeeds. It was a Meme nightmare. #IKR @davidlynch Close it all down. Okay so, worldbuilding first:
Royalty AU set in the dndads canon Faerune, but the dads have all always been from there. The S1 dads all went adventuring together in their youth, which is how they knew each other and how the kiddads know each other, and Henry was at the time a rebellious prince trying to get freedom in his youth. That's background info to the background info
A lot of this is kinda canon, with Henry now being king of Oakvale and Sparrow and Lark both being the heirs to the throne so they kind of have to work out who's going to inherit eventually. (It's looking like Sparrow because he has a wife and kids and because Lark is more interested in stabbing people than diplomacy, so he's basically part of the royal guard). Nicky is, of course, the crown prince of Hell. Jodie is the king, Morgan is the ex-Queen Consort who got enshrined into law as still basically being the Queen Consort because everyone likes her and just still treats her that way. Glenn is just kind of a guy the Hellish Royal Family keeps around because he's Morgan's new husband (and also parental confusion on who Nicky's father is but that's not public knowledge shhhh). Morgan is also the Captain of the Royal Guard. Taylor is being raised in a kind of far-off castle with Cassandra because things in the Hellish Court are tense and they don't want him getting assisinated, so he still barely gets to see Nicky. Also the betrayal still happened but I haven't worked out what it is yet.
The less canon part, Terry Jr is the Duke of Roqueporte, and has been since he was like ten because Terry Sr died young, but Samantha ruled as regent with Ron helping when he came into the picture. Grant and Darryl were well-respected travelling fighters for quite a while, and Terry made Grant head of his army and basically his personal bodyguard and advisor. Grant lives with Marco "to split the price" and he found Lincoln orphaned on a mission, so he took him home and raised him with Marco. Hermie lives with Terry because of Disputes in the divorce between Scam and Jodie (and resulting political tensions between Hell and the Goof's Realm) so they agreed Terry Jr would raise and tutor him. Hermie and Terry have a real "student who's resistant to anyone and anything and the teacher who actually stopped to give a damn about them" relationship, but also if said teacher had raised the student since he was like 5. Hermie refuses to see Terry as anything close to a father figure and keeps their relationship very professional. TJ personally tutored him in all the ettiquette, magic, policy, etc. for him to eventually become some kind of politically important royalty in some way. Mark Likely frequently drops by as an emissary from the Goof's Realm, and Terry hates her but wouldn't refuse him the chance to actually check in on her nephew since both his parents have sort of abandonded him. Terry Jr also recently married Veronica and Scary wants no part in the whole "Duke" thing and the fact that she's heir presumptive. Oh, and Nicky and Terry are exes
Okay, story background. Because of Shit(TM) going on in the background, Sparrow and Nicky have sent Normal and Taylor to go live with Terry for a while so they're safe, and also sent a few guards as additional protection on top of Roqueporte's existing guards. Which means Morgan and Lark are here, yay! Link is being a mini bodyguard in training because Grant thought it would be good to expose him to kids he wouldn't see as a threat to his parents' attention since Terry's the one mostly paying attention to them, the teens are bickering and learning to get along. After a while, Nicky and Sparrow join as well becauuse they want to see their sons. Terry promptly scolds Nicky because "literally why would you come live in the house of the person who betrayed you, you didn't bring any extra protection, you just snuck off here, I could literally kill you at anytime you idiot, this is so dangerous." Nicky points out the irony of the person who's a "threat" scolding him for being reckless.
One evening, Terry and Nicky are in Terry's private chambers (which includes a drawing room, they're not just in his bedroom) having an informal conversation, which turns to the betrayal. Things get heated, with Nicky being still furious at Terry's actions but also furious at his guilt, and Terry blaming himself and being upset that Nicky is even here. To prove a point, Nicky pulls out a knife and poises it ready to stab through Terry's heart. And Terry just, lets him. He has every reason to believe that Nicky is about to murder him then and there and he makes no move to stop it.
For the record, this scene is very homoerotic. Like, Terry's bathed in moonlight while Nicky pins him down on an elegent recliner with the knife, they're both in very casual attire, that kind of thing. Just fyi.
Grant, his bodyguard senses flaring up, bursts in to see Nicky about to stab Terry and tackles him to the ground, knocking the knife away. Morgan, Lark, Sparrow, and the teens (who would all be in rooms nearby) also run in, and see Grant pinning Nicky to the floor, a knife on the ground, and Terry just kind of sitting there, not looking too worried about any of this. Grant is convinced Nicky was about to murder Terry, Nicky would like to point out that he was never actually going to stab Terry, and Terry's just kind of like "no, everything's alright, don't worry about" without explaining anything.
Hermie: Wait. He was going to stab you-
Nicky: No, I wasn't
Hermie: -and you were just going to let it happen?
Terry: ..............no (unconvincingly)
Hermie: You were going to let yourself die and leave me alone?
Terry: *oh shit I didn't think about that*
Hermie: And Scary and I were just going to find out when exactly? When we walked in to find your heart ripped out in here?
Terry: *OH SHIT*
And then Terry frantically and awkwardly tries to comfort Hermie and Scary, which is difficult because yeah, he was going to let Nicky kill him, but he's since realised he was an idiot so no he's not going to do it anymore (but also the inclination is still there) Grant still has Nicky pinned to the floor btw
I don't have anything else yet but yeahhh
Aether I have the most delicious terrick scene in my mind but I can't convey it without like 20 minutes of backstory first because it's wrapped up in the depths of an au I'll never write. It involves Nicky holding a knife to Terry's chest though (with stabbing intent but also not really)
icy I need the 20 minutes of background rn . icy . icy you can't just say well there's this scene in my brain with terrick and stabbing but there's a lot of other stuff that leads up to it :( and not expect me to stare at you with grabby hands for the other stuff as well as the stabbing even if it is dm word vomit and not neat nice fic .

BTS Princes!au
Note: 1)This is a modern Royal family! au headcanon. (I never saw any fic with the BTS members as brothers of a royal family, so why not post about the concept. 🤷🏽♀️)
2)All the members of BTS are brothers.
3) Yoongi and Hoseok are twins, and Jimin and Taehyung are twins, too.
4)This takes place in the present time.
5) I will make a separate headcanon for each member (how they meet their significant others and the weddings details)later, also might turn it into a series if it gets good response.💜
6) last but not least, none of the photos included are mine, only the edits are made by me.
First things first
Maknae line are so hard to tame, I am telling you.
Yet, the queen loves to pamper them because they're her babies.🥺
Hyung line are so formal and collected, unlike the maknae line.
They are always carrying out royal duties.
They are so concerned for their subjects.
Hate the idea of leading a lavish and luxurious lifestyle while there are people out there who are suffering.
Therefore, you find each prince supporting different causes.
Jin would be supporting organisations that help single mothers.👩👧👦
Yoongi and Hoseok would focus on mental health.🧠🗣️
Namjoon definitely supporting education.🎓🏫📕
Taehyung promoting environmental causes.♻️
Jimin would probably be interested in organizations that focuses on the issue of plastic pollution.🏭
Jungkook supporting anything related to physical health maybe doing something like The invictus games as Prince Harry did.💪🏼♿
But the nation has never been on edge like this since ages, everyone can't wait to see each Prince's choice of their future spouses.
Plus don't get me started on the idea of 7 different themed, royal weddings .... OMG!!!👀💃🏽
It got to the point that whenever any of them is seen with any woman then it's instantly assumed that she'd become a future Princess. 👸🏻👸🏼👸🏽👸🏾👸🏿
The king's advisors would suggest that he talks to the boys upon the matter since they're becoming of age and should start families of their own.
But he won't force them to do anything tho.
Like he'd discuss it with their mother while they're all out doing a traditional royal activity or something.
The Queen getting excited over the idea but won't pressure her boys just like their father.
The boys won't focus on that matter, they want to focus on helping the people more.
But that doesn't mean that they haven't thought before about meeting their significant others.😉
Especially when their parents, the king and queen, set a great example for love stories.
But they find it hard specially with all the attention being on them which is not giving them the space to focus on their love life.
During one of the rare interviews that the Palace allows them to do, the 7 Princes agreed that they won't mind marrying a foreign girl.
The King and Queen wouldn't mind, too. The most important thing is that their sons are happy.
Each one would meet the love of his life unexpectedly.
Surprisingly, first one to be in a relationship is Jin.
I know everyone said it would be Jungkook, but the poor boy can not imagine to put his future Princess under the spotlight with his lifestyle, so he preferred to wait and see how it would go with his hyungs.
Plus he didn't want to be the first one to settle because the intensified attention on him that will get worst as he's the golden maknae.
The last one to likely get married or settle down is probably Yoongi.
Everyone knew it really, especially the Queen.
When Yoongi was a smol baby,👶🏻 she realised that he cherished spending time by himself.
Don't get me wrong tho, Yoongi was a sweet baby.🖤
He got along so well with Hoseok and Jin.
He even loved playing the part of the big brother when the world welcomed baby Namjoon.
He would hug his siblings if anyone of them was crying and needed comforting.
She could remember that one time Jungkook was crying his heart out because Jimin snatched his favourite toy, and Yoongi would immediately comfort Jungkook and share his favourite blanket with him, but not before reprimanding baby Jimin and making him apologize to his little brother.
Such a sweet baby 🥺💜.
But again...
It's just that the Queen noticed that her second son was not really into being a sociable person like his brothers.
He can definitely be sociable, it's just he prefers not to be.
And because of that, she knew that her Yoongi won't settle with just anyone, and that it would take time.
The king is such a proud father because all of his 7 sons are hard working and passionate about their duties.
Jin and Namjoon are definitely the ones who lead most of the important royal events.
Jin is mature and knows how to handle himself with the public and the press.
Something that the maknae line still has to learn and perfect, that's their father's opinion.
while Namjoon is really well read in politics as it was his major.
So Jin and Namjoon definitely make a good duo when it comes to the political affairs of the country.
Hoseok,Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook are most likely the ones to be on the first page of the newspapers almost everyday.
As I said the citizens would be very interested in the life of their future rulers.
Therefore, the boys are always under a microscope.
Especially those 4 because they're bold and reckless, but like not in a bad way.
With the world evolving around them, many people do realize the fact that the concept of a monarchy is old news.
And that's why these 4 are working so hard to evolve their monarchy and keep up with the changes taking place.
Therefore, they manage to surprise their subjects by their open minds and their updated thoughts upon almost every matter.
That's why you can find them all over the global news every now and then more than the other monarchies.
The boys would all probably travel abroad to complete their education, then come back to enlist in the army.
Jin enlisting first of course as he's the oldest and finishing before them.
Then Yoongi and Hoseok complete theirs.
Followed by Namjoon
Then Jimin and Taehyung
Finally, ending with Jungkook.
And let me tell you something...
The Queen cried the hardest during Jungkook's ceremony.
I mean she did cry during the other ceremonies of her sons, too.
But Kookie's was the hardest.
Because that's her last baby🥺.
Plus you know how mothers always pamper their last child. ALWAYS.
It's so unfair.
The boys sometimes think that Jungkook is her favourite, but that's not true.
She loves them all equally.
"It just hits differently when you're letting your youngest baby off to face the world because he/she is all grown up now."
That's what she always says.
Now let's move on to the important stuff ...
The Queen has an important event at which she will be bored to death?
Don't worry😊.
Leave it to her youngest twins and Jungkook to accompany her.😈
They always know how to make their mother laugh when things get way too boring.
Of course they would all show up with all their glory 😉.
The Queen is so proud of her babies.
Like who wouldn't be proud of having 7 perfect handsome boys who are well mannered and such gentlemen.
They are so smart and are always up to learn more.
Here's how they turn her boring night into an eventful one:
Make her laugh over their silly attitude towards eachother.
You know like, Jungkook teasing Jimin for being short.
Or Taehyung squishing Jungkook's chubby cheeks.
Never fail in making their mother laugh.
But now moving onto the serious part.
Once the event starts.
They become focused.
Start firing questions. (Politely of course).
Want to know more about the matter discussed at hand.
Will intimidate the host by the amount of questions being asked.
Which leads other hosts to remind themselves to be prepared beforehand in case the 3 Princes decide to show up ... No one wants to be embarrassed in front of the royal family and the public and be accused of not knowing a certain detail about the matter they're responsible of.
The Queen would have a big proud grin on her face.
Proud of her babies for being so invested in the matters of their country.🤗
Now moving onto the older twins: 😉.
You know, everyone told the Queen that having twins would be a really unique experience.
And it was true.
She swears having her first twins was the funniest thing in her life.
She was astonished to find her babies becoming the total opposite of eachother.
Like, to her Yoongi's character is the moon 🌒 while Hoseok's the sun 🌞, and the cutest thing about it is that they complete eachother.
How cute is that. 🥺😍
As we said Yoongi is calm and prefers to spend time by himself and that wasn't any different when he was an infant.
But,Hoseok was and still is the total opposite.
Even tho they were similar when they were born.
But you would definitely know how to differentiate between them.
Baby Yoongi is calm while baby Hoseok is bubbly and energetic.
You'd probably find Hoseok fussing in the middle of the night, but YOONGI !!! 😂
Baby Yoongi appreciated his sleep over anything else. 😂😂😂
The Queen would remember toddler Yoongi falling asleep in weird places at weird times.
Like how he fell asleep under the dinning table during a royal family gathering in Christmas. 😂🤦🏽♀️
While Hoseok would cause many maids to hand in their resignation to the head staff of the palace due to his over energetic bubbly self.🤣
Definitely was the devil himself.
Pranking the staff and pushing them to their limits.😂
She would remember that one time when they were on a vacation and they were introducing the twins to the concept of a swimming pool....
Hoseok was ecstatic, he felt like he was on top of the world and kept splashing water at his mum by slamming his chubby little hands in the water. 😂
While Yoongi kept looking around like a grumpy cat then falling asleep in his father's arms with his chubby cheeks squished on his dad's bare shoulder.
Pouty lips slightly agape.
With drool falling from his cute little lips 🤤.
The Queen was laughing so hard that day at her husband who was trying to get any reaction from Yoongi but failed miserably. 😂
Getting out of the pool and putting the twins in their push chairs for a nap.
Yoongi grumping in his sleep because the sun was too much for him which led to him waking up feeling grumpier than ever.
Hoseok was too busy consumed in his curiosity by looking down from his high chair wondering why he is being restricted in it now when he was far away from being sleepy.
Now fast forward a few years later, and the twins were still the same in their mother's eyes.
Sometimes, she would look over at them and wonder if her grandchildren would look anything like their fathers and inherit their weirdly cute personalities, or maybe they would grow up to take after their mothers whom she still has no idea who they are or when would her boys meet them.
I mean let's face it, all mums get super excited when thinking about grandchildren.
The Queen actually caught herself imaging how her grandchildren will look like after the boys decide to settle down and start their own families.
Almost had a mini heart attack at the thought of the palace being invaded by her grandchildren.😂
That is if her sons decide to have as many children as she and her husband did.
Would secretly wish for girls because obviously she didn't have the experience of raising a girl.💜
Which will lead her to think of all the royal jewelleries that she will be giving to them.
But would push away the whole thought as she didn't want to pressure the boys.🥺
Now moving onto Namjoon:
Boy was the king and queen amazed when they discovered his love for reading at an early age.
Like he would spend so much time in the library of the palace, and afterwards would go to bed immediately.
The king promised not to tell anyone this except for Namjoon's future wife.
But one night when he was on his way to his room ...
He found Namjoon sneaking late at night out of his room and into the library in his cute baby blue onsies. 💙🥺
His father won't admit it, but he thought it was one of the cutest things ever.
Just like, how he found his oldest twins the total opposite of eachother. 😍
The king as a father was very involved in his sons' lives.
They made him so excited.
Like everyday they would teach him something new, and as a father he was and still is looking forward to know more about them.
How they think, react, and what do they like and dislike.
Raising them was such an adventure to him.
He remembers when they were first expecting Jin.
Everyone told him that having a son is like having a partner in crime.
And God blessed him with 7.
Too many partners in crime for the poor Queen's heart.😂
Well concerning Jin:
The king and queen remember how he was the second quietest baby after Yoongi.
Sometimes the Queen thinks that Jin is too mature for his age.
A perfectionist since childhood.
She could remember when he would throw little tantrums when things didn't go his own way.😂
As the eldest, he is doing a great job of looking out for his brothers.
She of course understands the way Jin is as he's the crown prince.
But still she can't help but worry that he takes the position too seriously that it can wear him out.
She just wants him to enjoy his life a little bit like his younger brothers.
When accompanied by one of the maknae line to carry out a royal duty, you can see him quietly reprimanding them (yet gently) to behave in front of the public and the paparazzi.
This one time the camera caught him giving Jungkook the look because he was fussing around.
Poor Kookie looking at the ground like a reprimanded little child muttering a "sorry hyung." 😂😂😂
Jin has this faint sided smile.
He loves his brothers,truly.
Can't help having a cute little smile whenever one of them would apologize for acting unprofessionally, he just loves to mess with them.
And they know it.
But they respect him so much that they won't argue about it. 💜
Now Jimin and Taehyung are a different story:
THESE KIDS ARE A MESS
I am telling you. 🙂
DO. NOT. LEAVE. THEM. TOGETHER. FOR. TOO. LONG. ⚠️
They will bring chaos upon the place.
Even though they are not identical twins.
But unlike Yoongi and Hoseok, they have a lot in common.
Would wear matching outfits when doing a royal duty.😊💜
The boys remember when Hosoek once suggested doing the same thing with Yoongi...
But he scoffed at him. 😂
Anyways.
Even though they are trouble, but that doesn't mean that they're unaware of their positions as princes.
Therefore they won't really do something reckless. But still they're crazy.
Insepararble.
If one leaves the other to carry out a certain royal duty without his twin.... They immediately feel uncomfortable.
You can definitely feel it that they're close brothers.
But again they're twins so you can't really blame them.
definitely helped Hoseok with his pranks on the staff of the place when they were kids.😂🤭
As for Jungkook, well...:
Last child, so definitely pampered all the time.
VERY CURIOUS.
you know how children are curious by nature, well.... He is extra curious.
Definitely the most athletic among his brothers.
Very competitive.
Don't ask me why!! But Prince Jungkook would be interested in fencing 🤺
Like I'd imagine him in that uniform, sword in his gloved hand, messy hair hidden under his helmet...
And oh my God ... I just melted at the concept 🤤
Such a hopeless romantic.🥺💜
Like when the king and queen would share a short loving kiss.
All the boys would act disgusted, but not Kookie.
He found it cute.
Like he would have a hint of a blush on his face.
Smile, face down.
Hoping to find someone like how his dad found his mum.
Like it really amazes him how after all these years, with seven kids, a heavy burden of ruling a country and yet they seem to be falling more and more for eachother everyday.
If the boys learnt one thing from their parents, it would be pure love.(romantically speaking.)
All in all, the boys are doing just fine as princes.
Carrying out their duties as professionally as possible.
Things are quite normal in their lives that is until ...
Each one finds his partner.😏💜

Dear F what a brilliant remark about the Lannisters! They're at each other's throats and they'll all choose different sides and they'll (probably) all die. So in the end there is an issue about legacies and choices that Martin explores: brother against brother, it was Sansa's accusation against LF. Jamie after leaving the kings guard shall be the heir of CR. And T. will choose D and will die (remember Varys line to T: power is a shadow on the wall but it can kill you just the same). Thoughts?
Dear nonny,
You were talking about my comparison of the Lannisters and the Starks and how in other families but the starks inheritance and claims is always a family issue. While other families are divided over different claims, the Starks tend to acknowledge the better claim of other family members: Jon’s “Winterfell belongs to my sister Sansa”, Sansa’s “Your the lord of Winterfell now.” to Bran… etc. It is also very interesting, that Ned’s and Catelyn’s way of ruling has some long-lasting effects that leads to the Northern Lords supporting the Stark children (more so in the books than in the show). Ned/Cat against Tywin is the long lasting effect of just rule against the short term efficiency of ruthless tyranny.
This got a bit long….
The Lannisters really have a toxic legacy and all of them are tangled deeper and deeper into it. Trying to emulate Tywin they perpetuate the hard-handed rule of the Lannister patriarch and all have to deal with the repercussions that harsh rule brings with it. There are differences though: Cersei mostly wants to be seen as an even better Tywin. (”I am the only son Lord Tywin ever had), powerful, ruthless, held in fear. She constantly compares herself to Tywin and I think she really has taken Tywin’s teaching, that the methods do not matter, to heart. I guess that even bookwise usurping the title of queen although she has no right to it would sit well with her. All the Lannister children think about the saying that Tywin ruled in reality when he was Aerys’ hand. And I’m sure, if Cersei is crowned in the books as well, that this will be her personal triumph: That she, who Tywin looked down upon because of her sex, managed to use the same methods and climb even higher in the world. I’m sure it will be her “Look father, how proud are you now?”-moment. But holding on to the crown will cost her everything. I think we can agree she is a goner. You know, Cersei is not stupid, and I always wonder what would have happened to her, if her father had just acknowledged (and loved) her beyond the beauty he needed for his politics? It is one of the reasons I have a soft spot for Nedsei as a crackship, because in this ship it is possible to explore a different Cersei, not one twisted so much by the lack of parents’ love that she turned to her twin brother to get some validation.
In regard to Tyrion, most of his acts are also done because he thirsts for his father’s approval, even after he killed him. It is his tragic, that just like Cersei he cannot untangle himself from the expectations his father planted into him. Tyrion does want the Rock, he wants his father’s position as the power behind the throne. While Cersei wants to ‘improve’ on her father’s legacy, Tyrion basically wants to become his father. It is not happenstance that he thrived while he acted as Hand. And I think it is no happenstance that in the show he did not choose a life in exile with Shae but the pit of intrigue which is the royal court. It is interesting, that even in the books, Tyrion sees his only chance at getting the Rock by allying with people who would conquer Westeros - and in this he is right. He has comitted patricide and as a murderer he can only hope for an all-encompassing pardon from a monarch who wants a new start. Tyrion’s hand is forced in this. No legal ruler of Westeros could pardon him. It must be someone who wipes everything away when he/she conquers the kingdom. This is why he is stuck with Da€nerys for better or worse, and I do think that he will resent this in the show and possibly in the books as well up to a point where he will become even more ruthless. And just like Cersei he’ll probably reap what he sowed. I’m certain he’ll die or maybe he’ll finally own his crimes and will go to the Wall. The show has only kept some very small aspects of ‘villain’ Tyrion that I think it is hard to predict what he does. Either there will be some last minute turn for book Tyrion and the show just took a shortcut to a better and responsible Tyrion, or some of Tyrion’s crimes still await us.
Now, Jaime is the one Lannister child that is not totally obsessed by earning his father’s approval and that is because he is the only one who got some of it. His father was proud of him for the very things Jaime wanted him to be proud. Tywin was proud of Cersei’s beauty but while she likes being beautiful she rather would have her father’s love for being smart. Tywin could acknowledge Tyrion’s cunning but disrespected him for the ‘fault’ of being a dwarf. Tywin was proud of Jaime’s skill with a sword and this is also something Jaime wanted.
That doesn’t meant that Jaime does not try to meet his father’s expectation as well, but it is slightly different for him. For once, he does not really care about Casterly Rock - or at least he has priorities. He has rejected the Rock twice: Once when he agreed to Cersei’s scheme to get him into the King’s Guard so they could still be close. Cersei asked him: ‘What do you want, a stone castle or a living woman?’ or something to that regard. And Jaime went along with her plan, that he would stay close to her as a King’s Guard when Tywin took his beautiful daughter to court. Only that did not go as planned. Jaime rejects CR again when Tywin offers him his position as heir. He even makes a present of the sword Tywin gave him as his heir to Brienne, choosing to keep the oaths he swore as KG and to Catelyn to protect her daughters. I guess this leaves open the possibility that Jaime will refuse the Rock a third time. Here my headcanon of Jaime becoming Jaime of Tarth and Hand of the King kicks in.
Nevertheless Jaime also tries to emulate his father when it comes to politics. We see this in AFFC. He is offended when his aunt Genna tells him that he is not much like Tywin and the ruthless methods he uses to re-establish order in the Riverlands are sure to blow up in his face. The interesting thing is though, that Jaime’s motives for imitating his father are a bit different from his sibling. He acts in this way because he has learned that being ruthless has effects, but he does it to ensure order. Sure, this order is a Lannister order that is supposed to sustain Tommen’s rule, but in this Jaime is different from his sibling. He is after getting influence and recognition but not necessarily after power for himself or you could say he is not only after power for himsel. And we have yet to see, if he will carry through with his threats. I think he walks a very fine line at Riverrun: He threatens Edmure and bends the Freys, all so that he can actually keep his promise to Catelyn to not take up arms against the Tullys - physically and for real. Yes, he threatens Edmure - the notorious line ‘on a trebuchet’ - but he does not fight against the Tullys. We will see what happens if it comes down to him acting according to his threats.
So, Cersei will always choose her own side, Tyrion has no other choice but Da€nerys unless he manages to persuade another possible ruler to give him a pardon or unless he abandons his ambitions on CR. Jaime is actually the only one who has a choice, and I think ultimately his choice will be ‘honour’ and the Starks - or his redemption arc would be absolutely pointless. I’m still not sure, he’ll survive it. I think there are hints about this (how could he become a Hand otherwise), but he might be destined to death like his siblings.
I know what my preferred outcoume would be: Cersei dead, Tyrion at the Wall, Jaime of Tarth, Hand of the King. Lannister legacy - as dead as Cersei! And a song about the “rains that shower the Rock where lions used to prowl”
Thanks for the ask!

The capital of the Jötunn Empire, Dämmerung, had an excited buzz that early morning. The sun had not yet risen when the news spread from person to person, door to door, tower to tower, and far beyond the gates of Dämmerung; a new prince was to be born that morning.
Crowds gathered outside the palace, wrapped in cloaks and blankets, huddled together for warmth in that cold, spring night. Their gazes were up at the palace's terrace where they awaited the confirmation of the news. They whispered amongst each other as the time dragged on, all smiles and excitement. Vendors and merchants began setting up shop around the crowd, expecting a grand harvest.
The stars that spangled above faded as the black night declined into a cerulean heaven from the arising light of the sun over the valleys. Finally, as the sun peaked its head across Dämmerung, a blonde Jötunn Knight in golden armor walked out and pumped his fist, beaming at the crowd. The crowd cheered in elation and the bells of Pagan churches rang throughout the city.
Inside the palace and the bedroom chamber where the news had been born from, the Jötunn Empire's knights, warlords, princes and princesses had gathered to witness one of their newest High Princes. They stood around a large bed, some weeping as they looked on at their Queen cradling a miracle before their eyes.
Frigga held her newborn child closely to her, now sitting upright on the bed. She was sweating and dark circles clung beneath her eyes, but she was smiling with a mother's warmth.
The baby's golden eyes looked on curiously from beneath its white blankets at its mother, then at the crowd, and then at its blue-haired father who was kneeling beside the bed with tears in his eyes. Osmund came off his knees and kissed his son on his blonde head and then Frigga on her forehead.
"He did not cry," said Frigga, her voice shaky.
A titan of a man with burning red hair let out a hearty laugh, slapping him in the back, "But this one did!"
"Cut me some slack, Logan," Osmund chuckled, stretching his back. "I know you wept when Thoros was born, I was there."
"Like a maiden!" Logan barked, beaming. "What will be the child's name?"
"Arthurius," Frigga declared, brushing her baby's cheeks with her thumb.
"I'll tell the crowd. They're gonna love it!" said the blonde knight with golden armor. He walked back out into the terrace and shouted, "HIS NAME IS ARTHURIUS!" The crowd responded with a chorus of cheers and he strutted back into the room, grinning.
"You seem to love doing that, Edward," Osmund remarked to the blonde knight.
"I was born to please crowds, it's in my nature! Let them be excited! It's the first time royalty has been born in the empire in a time of peace."
Frigga nodded thoughtfully, then looked up.
"Ymir, let the kids in, they'll want to greet their new brother."
A young man with long, white hair braided back nodded and walked towards the door. He opened it and three children immediately swept past his legs in a blur, sprinting towards the bed. Another taller child with short, sea blue hair walked behind, greeting Ymir politely at the door.
The three children huddled together, looking at their baby brother with a hint of awe in their eyes.
"I thought you said it was a boy, father!" blurted the shortest child. His hair was dark, a faint hint of blue on the edges only visible from the faint morning light.
"Why don't you check, Wulf?" Osmund grinned.
Wulf peeled back Arthur's blanket and promptly pushed it back over him.
"It's a boy!"
"It really was a baby brother then," the second child said bitterly, a girl with long, sea blue hair. "I was hoping for a baby sister! Papa, make a baby sister with Mama now!"
Osmund choked back a cough, sensing Frigga staring exhausted daggers at his neck as the others around him laughed. He patted the little girl's head with an awkward smile.
"Now, Lyanna, papa can't do that. The family's getting too big! Arthur is going to be the last one."
"Then you owe me, Papa!" Lyanna whined.
"How about this. I'll give you Lobera instead of a baby sister, is that okay with you?"
"YOU'RE GIVING HER LOBERA?!" cried the two boys indignantly as Lyanna nodded happily with bright eyes.
"Why are you giving her a sword when she uses spears?!" pressed the third boy, the tallest of the trio and with short, blonde hair.
"She can learn to use a sword like you then, Valerius. I'll teach you both together. It'll be easier!"
"Easier on you!"
"Okay then, make another bastard, old man!" Wulf ordered.
"WHAT? Where the hell did you learn that word?" Osmund fumed. In the corner by the door, Ymir, who had not participated in any of the laughter up to that point, was looking away and trembling with a grin on his face.
"AHA! So you can't! Now you owe ME something," Wulf ruled, crossing his arms with a huff.
"That's not how it works!"
"Oh it's because I'm a bastard now is it?"
"Wulf, you're not a bastard. I've already told you countless ti - you know what, fine! I'll give you all something."
The three children cheered as loudly as the crowd had.
"Being extorted by your own children? Fatherhood must be quite unpleasant," mused a man with long, white hair and venomous green eyes. He had been standing by the terrace, holding a staff with a glowing blue crystal at its head. His face was feminine and his voice was soft and honeyed, easily capable of being mistaken for a beautiful woman if it weren't for his skintight attire on his upper body, which showed all the features of an athletic man. "The Queen must be tired. Everyone, please bid your farewells."
They all congratulated Osmund and Frigga, laughing and patting their backs, leaving one by one. Lyanna, Valerius, and Wulf were the last to leave, trying to ask their father what they were receiving until Ymir shooed them away.
Finally, it was just Osmund, Frigga, the baby, and the strange man. The joyful, warm atmosphere was now gone, replaced by a cold silence as they stared at one another in tension. But such a frigid ambience was unnatural, too bitter to be simply because of the strange man.
"You can stop hiding yourself now, Agmund," the strange man said, looking toward the darkened corner of the room by the door.
Out stepped a towering man, becoming visible in the light as he had been completely invisible in the shadows. His hair was long and an impenetrable black, pierced by curved black horns on the sides of his head. His eyes were a spectral silver, their gaunt glow further making his sickly pale face wraith-like. He was hunched over, being too large for the room.
Agmund walked with long strides over to them, dragging behind a long, black cloak that waved like the surface of water with each movement. Most prominent of all was his aura, a constant eminence of pure dread that made even the hairs of valorous Osmund stand on end. The strange man looked uncomfortable standing next to him, subconsciously taking a step away from the deathly figure.
Agmund turned his head toward the man, speaking in a deep, hushed voice that still managed to resonate, "You've learned to sense my presence, Ancelot."
"Only an idiot would not be able to learn how to," said Ancelot, regaining his composure. "You hide yourself too often that it's easy to learn by now."
"It's rude to consider others fools despite your advantage in power, Mage...." Agmund cautioned.
"Apologies, my King. But I wish to speak about the current advantage in power our empire has in the Nine Worlds."
"What you wish to to discuss is war, Ancelot. Say it clearly." Osmund growled. He was standing at the foot of Frigga's bed, glowering at Ancelot.
Ancelot looked directly at Osmund's eyes, imperturbed by Osmund's posturing. "I understand you wish to savor your time with your wife and children in tranquility, High Prince. However peace will not last. Not with barbarians at the gates looking for an opportunity to assemble and attack."
"Your lobby can be discussed another time. You're right, I am tired." Frigga professed.
"What do you think, my King?" Ancelot looked at Agmund. But Agmund was not listening. He had been gazing at the baby in Frigga's arms, who looked back directly at him, eye to eye, both with intense interest. No hint of dread nor fear lay in that baby's golden eyes and Agmund looked back with confusion and curiosity.
"Agmund!" Frigga called. Agmund snapped out of his lull and realized Frigga had been calling his name several times. She held up the baby toward him, "Would you like to hold him?"
Agmund hesitated for a moment, looking down at the baby once more. Osmund moved in, carefully taking the baby from Frigga and cradling him in his arms. "At least not before me." He stepped toward Agmund, holding the baby to him. It reached out to him and Agmund hesitated before slowly taking the fearless baby in his sickle-like fingers.
The warmth that spread over Agmund was felt by those around him as if the baby's radiance melted the cold aura of the phantom. The sun now bathed the room in its embracing light, revealing the odd smile on Agmund's lips. Osmund and Frigga smiled radiantly at the pair.
However, it was not all smiles. Ancelot, unnoticed, took another step away from Agmund as if his current aura was more dreadful than his previous. His face was unreadable as he looked away from the sun, but his eyes hid a burning anger at the pleasant peace that had befallen the king and his empire; a spark that would fester and soon ignite tragedy.
