Okay okay enough angst asks for this hot minute. For now I'll be delving into *pulls out corkboard completely covered in crumpled up papers* soulmate au!! Specifically, the "color only appears when you see your soulmate for the first time" one (because it's my fave of the soulmate aus :D). For this, this is where Hajime nevers does the Kamakura project and the world never ends because if it were I'd be dumpster diving headfirst into a fuckton of angst. So! Hajime is heading home from the reserve course, and he sees Nagito and Chiaki for the first time, and his world straight up pops into color and it hits him like a truck. Since he's busy trying to adjust to color at this moment, he doesn't notice Nagito and Chiaki looking over because "my my, what's happening with the reserve course loser over there?" "Please stop" and when Nagito sets eyes on Hinata completely is when he starts freaking out too. What the fuck he was just gonna make another snide remark why is everything colored in with?? Sunset hues?? Chiaki sees all this and has 0 idea as to what's happening but she knows something is up. This is when she decides to start talking to Hajime. Hajime, in being a dumbfuck and not noticing Nagito as much, thinks Chiaki is his soulmate. Fuckin whoops?? Nagito's trying to get close and understand why the reserve kid is his soulmate, before promptly realizing "hey, if this reserve course kid is a really nice person that brings people into the light of hope, what does that say about the other reserve course students" and freaks out a little. Hajime is also somewhat trying to get close to Nagito, because hey, this feeling he gets when Nagito is genuinely happy makes him feel?? Good?? They subconsciously do a lot of romantic relationship things like wrapping arms around each other or 2 seconds too long hugs, and there might've been a little totally platonic forehead kiss but shhhh. There's still bickering(it's mostly the old married couple kinda arguments tho, who woulda thought) and he's mostly still trying to get close to Chiaki though. Chiaki's trying to understand what happened to Nagito and Hajime that day before realizing "oh, they made eye contact, then stared wildly at everything in panic and confusion. These bitches are probably soulmates" and is now trying to get them to realize that too and start dating because 1. They already act like it and 2. There is a LOT of sexual tension that the 77 class jokes about but is still like "I know we PROBABLY shouldn't get into their love life but these dumbasses are obviously soulmates and like each other why aren't they dating yet👁️". One day, while Hajime and Chiaki are playing games together, the brunette works up the courage to ask if Chiaki could see color. When Chiaki doesn't realize what exactly he's actually asking and bluntly replies no, Hajime is now internally asking himself "then the who the fuck is my soulmate" before Nagito walks into the room to hang out with them. Hajime goes "OH" and blushes like a maniac because oh my FUCKING god they acted like such a couple already why did no one inform him like once (he thinks,as everyone continuously tells him to ask the other out because he's a fool). Like,, they KISSED at one point how did he not realize "hey Chiaki is nice and all but there's no real spark between us unlike this kid I really want to understand and see obtain the hope he truly desires and maybe kiss more than once". Hajime is staring at the wall as he has this revelation, and Nagito and chiaki's conversation goes: "is he okay??" "Yeah, I think he just realized you're his soulmate tho" "WH" and now Nagito's confused because he just thought Hajime didn't like trash like him was he THAT stupid?? They eventually talk it out though, and the next day they're walking around hand in hand, and Hajime is peppering kisses on Nagito's cheek. They both love it.

Wrapping the last of the burgers in tin foil I walk outside holding the plate and bring it to Jody and Bobby who are cooking at the grill. Well, trying to, I guess. It’s mostly them bickering back and forth like an old married couple about what is the right way to cook burgers. I slowly walk behind them trying not to get in between their squabble. 

“Damnit Bobby you don’t press so hard down on them, you’re going to get out all the damn juices!” Jody yells in Bobby’s face while taking the plate from my hands smiling at me in thanks. 

“Thank you dear. Please tell Bobby he can’t press down so damn hard on the burgers!” Jody looks at me expectantly. I turn to Bobby who is looking at me with a stern look. Uh oh. At this point I could either piss off Bobby or Jody. Either one would probably hold it against me until the day I die. I’m just about to open my mouth until I feel an arm wrap itself around my waist pushing me towards the owner of the arm. I look up to see my beautiful husband looking at Bobby and Jody. His cheeks are a rosy tint and he has a soft smile visible.

“I’m sorry. But, I’m going to have to steal my wife away.” Dean peers down into my eyes. And his green eyes meet mine. God he’s beautiful. I’m so lucky. How’d I end up with someone as gorgeous as him? 

Little did I know he was wondering how he ended up with the most gorgeous being alive himself.

Before Jody and Bobby can object, Dean practically rushes me away from the pairing. Without looking down at me he laughs under his breath.

“Am I not the best husband alive?” He finally looks down at me in which I grab his chin and bring him down to meet my face level, in which I place a swift onto his lips. 

“The best.”

As the night goes on a group of us are sitting around the fire. Bobby and Jody are sitting next to each. Finally done bickering, for now. Sam and Claire are sitting next to each other discussing who the hell knows. Rufus is sitting next to Castiel surprisingly. I can only hear bits and pieces of their conversation but by the look on both of their faces it must be quite thought provoking. And Dean is sitting next to me with his plate on his lap, enjoying his 3rd burger of the night. This man has got the metabolism of an oxen. His other hand that isn’t covered in burger grease is wrapped around my waist. Where it hasn’t moved from all night. 

“So Y/n, how has married life treated you?” Claire asks how conversation with Sam stopped. I look up to Dean but he’s consumed by his burger. But, I know he understands what’s going on because he squeezes my side after he heard Claire’s question. 

“Um, it’s different. But not at the same time. I mean even before we were married Dean and I were always together.” 

“That’s for sure.” Sam says. Which earns a few laughs and agreements from the group. 

“As I was saying,” I throw a glare at Sam which only gets me a smile in return, “it’s different because we seem to depend on each other more than we did before. We're a pair for life now.”  I realized I sounded too sappy so I just shrugged my shoulders and said “or whatever” under my breath. After the different conversation begins again I look up to Dean only to find him staring at me. He has a smile on his face and his eyes are roaming my face. 

“What? Do I have something on my face?” I say as I start to wipe whatever is on my face off. Until Dean takes my hands in his and holds them in his, taking them away from my face. He then leans in and presses a kiss to my forehead.

“I love you Y/n.” He then presses a kiss to each of my cheeks before pressing one onto my lips. 

“I love you too Bub.” Our moment is short lived though because a loud wave of laughter comes from the group around us. I look to the group with a confused looked. Jody must notice because she explains that Claire had just told a rather funny joke. In which I of course told them I also had a good one.  

“OK, you guys ready?” I look over the group to see them all staring back at me waiting. 

“Well, here's the thing. My grandfather has the heart of a lion. You know. I guess that’s why he was banned from the zoo.” Silence. I look over the group to see them processing the joke and Cass just sitting there with a confused look. 

“That was damn near the stupidest joke I’ve ever heard kid, but that’s why it was funny I guess.” Rufus says followed by him laughing, which causes the rest of the group to laugh at how stupid the joke was. Proud of myself I laugh along. Until I look over to Dean and see him looking at me with an unreadable expression. I look down at my fingers and then at the ring on my left hand. Taking it off I look back to him and put it in his face. 

“You want this back?” I say with a sound of sarcasm. A smile then breaks onto his face before he takes the ring from my hands and places it back onto my finger. 

“I told you I’d love you forever and a day. And I never break my promises.”

“Wait,” Cass interrupts everybody, “I do not get the joke.”

Okay so I could write it a thousand different ways in an alternate universe but in canon:

They start hunting together, much pining ensues. One hunt they split up, Jo gets outnumbered and is like this close 🤏 to being werewolf chow when Dean comes just in time. It scared the hell out of him. He gives her the tightest hug, and he pulls away just enough to press his forehead against hers in relief, grounding himself. He opens his eyes, backing away mere inches. She's staring back at him, her cheeks a faint pink, waiting on bated breath. After nearly losing her, he just can't hold it back anymore. He kisses her, slow and tender, and that was the best decision he'd ever made.

From then on, they are the Dynamic Duo, a Battle Couple. They bicker like an old married couple sometimes (seriously trying Sam's patience sometimes, ESPECIALLY on long car rides) because they are both. So. STUBBORN. But at the end of the day, they love each other, and they forget about whatever little thing they were arguing about.

They'd been dating for a year- which is twelve times as long as any of Dean's past serious relationships -when he proposes. He gives her his mother's ring. They have a small, outdoor ceremony with family. In-between cases they stay with her mother at the roadhouse.

One day, Dean tells her he has a surprise for her. To her dismay, he makes her wear a blindfold the whole drive there and as ushers her out of the car. When he removes the blindfold, they're out in front of Bobby's old house. She's confused, and he explains that it's their house. Bobby left it to him when he died, and he's been getting it ready for them to be able to move in (sorting through Bobby's things, tidying up, etc.)

Sometime in the future, Jo finds out she's pregnant and panics. She had gotten cozy in the life they had built together, and a baby changes everything. Not to mention, she doesn't want to be a stay-at-home mom, but its not like she could bring a baby along on hunts. At first, she doesn't tell him. But, unfortunately for her, he knows her too well for her to be able to hide anything from him. She's upset, but he reassures her that they'll figure it out. They always do.

After much argument, Dean makes her stay at home until after the baby comes, what with them being scratched, bitten, slashed, shot at, and thrown across the room all the time. He mostly stays at home with her unless Sam needs his help. Once she enters her third trimester, though, he stops going entirely barring another apocalypse. They have a daughter. Sometime later, they have a son. They continue to hunt, but not nearly as much as they used to.

Their kids play in the yard as they watch them from the back porch, watching the setting sun. It's not quite the apple pie life, they don't exactly have a 9-5, but it's as close as they can get, and they wouldn't change a thing.
