I hope the writers acknowledge that Ruby fully intended to kermit last episode? Because if they don’t, the fact remains that she wanted to die. like? the implication for the rest of the show (if it continues) will be that she has suicidal tendencies and ideation that she never dealt with? Am I viewing that right?

They're not gonna, and JWBY's reactions in ep 9 are my evidence for that. There's zero acknowledgement that Ruby wanted to die - wanted to "not be [herself] anymore" - there are only empty platitudes about how it's "what she wanted." Nothing about the depressive state she was in when she did it, only unequal equivalencies made to the Afterans.

Ruby herself is the only one (and perhaps Neo) who saw death as a very real outcome of the tea. Everyone else is remarkably chill about it even though ascension as we've seen it completely wipes out your memories and alters you as a being.

You're viewing it right. According to the show, suicide is the answer and all of your loved ones will shrug it off because you'll come out better for it :)

I thought there was some sort of dramatization of how absolutely absentminded people that live here tend to be about how poverty and low functioning disabilities work but it actually makes perfect sense.

I do find hl boring and kind of depressing if I think about it for more than 2 seconds but I can appreciate why ppl enjoy a fantastical devotion to the point that it makes up a characters' entire being. but man I feel like it's just not very interesting or gratifying, and I'd want a fictional relationship to be at least one of those. definitely gratifying if its meant to be a romantic relationship the audience is supposed to be rooting for. but these days I'm being spoiled by reading about phill so I don't dwell on hl as much lol
