Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt during the Lovecraft fight has always been so interesting to me...

Because it's the kind of worry you'd never expect from a character as gruff as Chuuya, who had displayed nothing but hostility towards Dazai so far. Usually, characters that are labelled as "angry" or "anger issues" (which Chuuya is much more complex than that but you get my point) act more as a tsundere type of way when the one they "don't care about" gets hurt. And show their care in very, very subtle ways (ex. their eyes widen, their mouth parts and closes again, etc) before putting up their front once more.

Chuuya, however, is open, and vocal about it. His worry is clear not only to us, but to Dazai himself, the one he shouldn't be displaying the concern to (as per the cliche). Shouldn't it be some sort of secret that Chuuya does care? Isn't that what skk's dynamic has been shaping up to be until now?

I'm telling you- the way my mind blanked when Chuuya just casually.... showed concern not once, but twice, was a sight to see.

Besides, the context makes it much more confusing, because Dazai isn't some rookie, and Chuuya knows that more than anybody. He was the youngest executive in Port Mafia's history, of course he can handle a hit or two. Of course he'd seen him handle a hit or two, sometimes without batting an eye.

Heck, Chuuya himself was hurling Dazai like a ragdoll in their reunion, which was their last meeting. And you could argue that he was going easy on him, but Dazai has mostly withstood the same damage (as far as I could see), and Chuuya was as bitter as ever.

So that kind of contradicts both what we knew of Chuuya so far, and how their dynamic was shaped to be. I mean, that just makes Chuuya a hypocrite, yeah? What makes him care now, all of a sudden? What makes him care at all?

Well, to me, this backasswards reaction implies one (or more) of the following:

- Dazai rarely got physically hurt during their partnership and thus this is an unexpected thing for him to see (during a mission).

- The four years of separation made Chuuya unsure of how much Dazai can withstand physically now. Also the fact that he isn't in the mafia anymore, aka fighting enemy organizations on the weekly, would naturally make Dazai lose his touch in a way, what prompts Chuuya's reaction.

- Dazai getting taken off guard took him off guard which led to panic. Especially since the situation was (momentarily) out of their depth. Seriously wtf even was Lovecraft?

- During the dungeon scene Dazai was an enemy, while in the Lovecraft fight he was as an ally. The difference might be significant to Chuuya.

- This has always been Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt regardless of the situation.

- "Only I can hurt him like that" ahh logic

- Asagiri was still experimenting with their dynamic and thus there are some inconsistencies.

This scenario didn't play out again (after their reunion) for me to exactly determine which one is more plausible, but it is 100% canon for Chuuya to shamelessly show his concern and run to Dazai to check on him before properly dealing with their opponent, which I find to be such an appealing layer to their dynamic, and a good spin on the type of character he gets stereotyped as.

Bonus: Dazai also becomes a softy when Chuuya's hurt, especially post corruption. Dead Apple alone displays that multiple times.

All in all, Skk are doing a terrible job at maintaining their 'hostile' and 'antagonistic' relationship post their reunion. Freaks.

i'm being so serious when i say that this book warped my perception of what any sort of relationship should look like. is it healthy to want to exclusively feel soul-crushing love for the friends you choose or to know you would absolutely give up every single piece of yourself to them if they asked? probably not, but nothing else feels worth any effort and maggie stiefvater is to blame for that.

I'm having more half-formed zukka thoughts, so:

Hakoda mentions to Sokka that he has been thinking about making an arrangement with Zuko to marry a woman from the Southern Water Tribe, for political reasons. Something about unity between nations.

Sokka isn't completely sure, but he thinks that Zuko has implied in his letters that he isn't particularly interested in women. Sokka volunteers himself to marry Zuko. For purely diplomatic reasons, of course.

It's not that Sokka is in love with Zuko, or anything like that. It's just that he can't stand the thought of his friend being stuck in a loveless sham of a marriage. And, if he really lets himself think about it, he can't stand the thought of someone else being the one to marry Zuko.

the gojo twins are hilarious because your baby boy looks exactly like satoru, but has very little of his personality—it seems like the only things he inherited was satoru’s love for sweets and love for you. still, even though he’s a strong swimmer, he much prefers to relax in his floaties alongside you if you’re also in the pool, or chill by your side on a lounge chair, glasses too big for his face keeping the sun out of his eyes as he shares his smoothie with you, and asks to borrow your phone to take pictures of his sister and daddy in the pool. 

your baby girl on the other hand… she might have your face but she’s got satoru’s everything else—his competitive streak, his confidence, and definitely his mischievous nature. she’s the one who tiptoes into your bedroom at five in the morning, tapping at her daddy’s shoulders, and putting her little finger over his lip to shush him before he can wake you up; she’s always the one to convince satoru to take her swimming the backyard at the crack of dawn, and why by the time you and your baby boy wake up, she and satoru are already past warm up laps and swimming lessons and onto who can make the splashiest canonball competitions (she always wins because while her tiny body can endure a belly flop, satoru’s years of training physically doesn’t allow him to do it… and maybe because he’s not so competitive when it comes to his baby girl, he’ll always let her win). 

kento’s professional judo career honestly doesn’t last very long. after his first olympic games, you two start dating and he proposes just after he wins gold the second time he’s in the olympics; he does maybe two more years of national competitions while you’re pregnant, and decides that the intense training for the next two years in preparation of a third olympic competition isn’t worth missing time he could spend with you or your baby girl—plus, with all the money he’s made from competitions, winning gold medals, brand ambassadorships, commercials, and collaborations, he had enough money to provide for all of your for the rest of your lives. so, that’s what he does (his dream has always been to be a househusband, anyway...) his previous salaryman career comes in handy when deciding how to invest his money, how to buy a house, how to take care of his friends, how to set up a fund for your daughter, and an extra account or two… just incase more babies come along… 

by the time your baby girl is four, she’s already kento’s biggest fan. she loudly and proudly proclaims to everybody that her daddy was basically superman and won all the shiny trophies and medals in the house from when he was being a superhero. if anyone recognizes kento when they’re out together, she always confirms their suspicions, proudly boasting, “yeah kento is my daddy! he’s a winner!” it always makes kento’s heart swell to hear her praise. he doesn’t compete professionally anymore, but he does train from time to time, and has taken on a few mentees, and your daughter LOVES to watch him coach/train. she’s got her own uniform that she always puts on whenever they go to the gym together, and gets so excited when kento or ino or yuuji pretend to spar with her. 

she’s honestly kento’s mini figure. she’s respectful and reserved, but strong and knows when to fight and how to use her voice. there’s a time when he gets a call from her school saying that she got in a fight, the principal frames it as your daughter needlessly pushing around an older kid, but your daughter is certain in her words when she tells her dad that it was because the kid was being mean to the younger kids, and to her. kento doesn’t say a word to the teachers—doesn’t even fight them sending her home early for the day, because he’s happy to scoop her up and take her out for ice cream and tell her that he’s proud of her.

Never getting over the panel of Sakura kneeling on Sasuke and Naruto's blood. Something about how many tears she has cried for them, how she worked so hard in case she needed to save their lives one day, how perfectly she fits into the space left where their arms used to be...

Also Naruto and Sasuke looking at her as she cries and heals them? The gentle glow of her own chakra made to mend what is broken? Naruto and Sasuke saying thank you and I'm sorry to her???

That moment is so gentle compared to the war they just fought, it might kill me.

Sometimes I think about how Ace and Sabo knew each other for years before meeting Luffy but probably didn't really show affection to each other despite being each other's only friend at the time.

Like we know Ace didn't really receive affection from Dadan and Garp; likewise Sabo didn't really receive affection from his bio parents. So Ace and Sabo probably weren't very affectionate to each other as kids because they had no reference point.

Until Luffy came along.

Luffy was probably one of the first people to ever really hug Ace and Sabo. (I mean we know Rouge hugged Ace as a newborn because Oda showed us that but Ace doesn't remember it.) For all intents and purposes, Ace and Sabo probably weren't hugged often until Luffy.

I like to think that whenever Ace and Sabo wanted to hug or be affectionate to one another (however rare that feeling might have been), they would do it through Luffy. I imagine Ace and Sabo would be too proud or awkward to actually go up and hug each other but say if Sabo wanted to hug Ace but couldn't bring himself to do it on his own, he would tell Luffy to go hug Ace in his stead and vice versa.

Luffy of course would have no problem with this at first but then figure out what exactly was going on and then make Ace and Sabo actually express their affection to one another without going through him. But they would still be too proud to do anything more than like high-five or something idk.

I just like to image a scenario of Ace looking at Sabo and thinking 'I have this urge to hug him but I would literally rather punch a bee hive than actually hug him' and then go "Hey Luffy, go give Sabo a hug," without explaining why, but Luffy still of course does it because he loves them and is always willing to be affectionate.
