What do you think of what happened to Tiamat and Scylla in GvK? I miss them :(

I’ve spent way too much time arguing about it on Twitter honestly. I do think that their deaths are emblematic of the problem with Godzilla in GxK though, where he doesn’t have much of a place in the movie and is just there to look cool and please fans. It could’ve been anyone who got executed, and Scylla and Tiamat just happened to get picked. Whatever they did in graphic novels really doesn’t matter to me, if it’s not mentioned in the movies it just feels like glup shitto nonsense. I’m not gonna get into the “morality” of it because you could have a whole court room case about Tiamat’s death. I will say though, I think one of the main reasons people questioned it is because of how anthropomorphized the monsters are in the current movies. It’s unclear whether we’re supposed to view Titans as sapient beings in a society or as animals in an ecosystem because of how many different takes there have been on the MV and the flimsy definitions of things like “Alphas” and “Destroyer” Titans. MV lore is fucked.

In any case, I miss Tiamat, Scylla to a lesser extent. They were girlbosses and I’m not forgiving Legendary, especially after how cool they made Tiamat’s design just for her to get wasted in 30 seconds. I have a lot of feelings regarding Godzilla’s characterization in GxK and the fan discussion around it, but I think the biggest problem still stems from the fact that he really didn’t belong in, what was frankly a Kong movie.

genuinely think there is nothing night country fails to do that every other season of true detective didn’t also fail to do. easily better than season 2 and comparable to season 3. there’s things i liked about season 3 that season 4 didn’t have and things season 4 had that season 3 didn’t. and imo season 1 was only exceptional because a) it set the standard b) matthew mcconaughey as rust cohle is something special. truly the only thing i’ll concede is that i think breaking from the interview/flashback format was sort of a shame. again not saying i don’t have critiques re night country but like i said nothing i wouldn’t level at other seasons of true detective.

Thinking about the ‘Trevor’s Last Ride’ gig in the context of it being one Johnny pops up and has a lot of interest in not only the solving of the mystery of where his body is but following through until the end. He doesn’t even make any little quips about how dumb the kid was for trying to sell to wraiths by himself. he’s earnestly invested in getting the body back to his parents, tells him it’s “time to go home” when he watches V load the corpse into the car (contrasted w the gig you get from Wakako where the netrunner tries to sell tech directly to the Claws instead of through a fixer and she subsequently gets blasted; the entire time Johnny’s interested but only insofar as anything relates to him, and his experiences he can boast and retell, all while berating her throughout.)

Thinking to oneself “I am a woman” or “I am a girl” (which generally means “young woman”). You can’t always know what other people think, so you ask, and they will tell you.

It’s a simple yet reliable test, doesn’t involve looking at people’s junk, and won’t get you weird looks for asking about people’s junk. A lot of people seem to think it’s socially acceptable to ask strangers about their junk, but I don’t think anyone should be required under any circumstances to disclose the anatomy of their junk (c.f. “hi you don’t know me but how big are your labia”, “your job interview is going great so far, are you cut or uncut”, “we need to check your hymen before soccer tryouts”). I don’t think people should be treated differently based on what their junk looks like. I believe that deliberate misgendering is a juvenile form of bullying more often seen on the playground, for nonathletic boys or girls with unibrows. I don’t think of myself as a bully, so I’m not going to do that. I address people with their choice of title, name, and gender because that’s the polite thing to do and everyone is happier that way. Also, it doesn’t involve looking at people’s junk.
