that one ask aabout specialized idols reminded me of the ask about all the kpop academies that are opening. I'll make the distinction now,,,, theres a difference between a regular casting and shopping around for a specific flavor of idol. for example, i liked to look at a groups debut lineup and see how many of them were approached by the company first. then look at the company to see if there are more casted idols than ones who auditioned. this shouldnt be surprising but most groups have idols that were casted. they were approached first with no previous hints to having a talent. so theres always been that "specialized" idol thing happening,,, however now that more academies are opening and more official kpop companies are opening academies where people can pay to train there and get private auditions, headshots, modeling lessons, the whole package its not really a surprise kpop companies depend more on those than combing through heaps of online auditions. they can make money while scouting talent they dont have to pay to train. yg has one, sm opened a whole school?? mnet the tv company has one, fnc, cube bought one in china etc. while its not the worst thing to happen to the industry i doooo think this correlates to how young idols are now. most of these kids have been training their whole lives already so they are skilled enough than a average kid/teen who dances as a hobby and hasnt gone to a arts school. companies dont wanna invest anymore.
what the fuck are you talking about. i don't even know where to start with this. how the fuck do you think casting WORKS????? you cast someone FROM AN AUDITION, that's what auditions are FOR?? like 95% of idols are literally casted from auditions??? and people that audition are ones that are usually already skilled at whatever they're auditioning with???? and also who cares if someone has a 'specialized' skill?? you have learn a lot of new ones to be an idol anyways? and also there's nothing wrong with kpop training academies existing? so by this logic all ballet schools and music conservatories and theatre schools and art schools are bad for their respective industries???? people that actively WANT to study and learn and train in art are inferior to people randomly found off the street?? also no it doesn't correlate to how young idols are now???? idols have always been debuting young did you forget about taemin hyuna minzy krystal changmin KANGTA??????????? none of those people went to specialty vocational schools and they still debuted as minors?????? also what the fuck do you mean companies aren't willing to invest in training anymore. what? establishing a fucking school isn't investing???? how much do you think it costs to run a fucking SCHOOL???????????????????
#look. a lot of art education its vastly overpriced in order to line university pockets for no reason other than capitalism#i know this i paid for a £40k piece of paper#but art schools are actually so expensive to run?? the amount of ppl that you have to pay + space + materials + equipment???#they are MASSIVE investments and almost never profitable unless you charge money for tuition??#also the logic of 'oh the company's not directly paying for the training anymore' doesnt even make sense?#you do know that these schools are not staffed by business people?#they will employ actual artists and teachers who are there to find the best performers?#like yes this is a deeply capitalist system but there are still artists that work in it???#genuinely what the fuck are you trying to say here. this is incomprehensible#also not to say this again but kids going to art schools and doing art is not a bad thing???? how the fuck do you think people get started?#text#answers

Art Mediums I Use/Used:
So I made this post on a whim, because I thought that it would be useful for people who want to get started. I have been doing most of my art on software I didn’t pay a dime for or pirate. You shouldn’t have to spend inordinate amounts of money to explore your creativity, so I will be listing all the artistic mediums I have used, which — if they aren’t completely free — are totally worth looking into.
2D Digital:
ProCreate (IPad):
An incredibly versatile Software for IPad. It costs about $20 to get but it is so worth it. With custom brushes, an animation workflow, built-in color scheme helpers, and a polished UX using quick touch gestures for common actions, this is a must-have for people who want to take their art further. I know professional animators who would recommend this software in a heartbeat. Ive had the software for a little over a year now, and I am still just barely discovering the full extent of its capabilities.
Autodesk Sketchbook (Various Operating systems):
Slightly less versatile than ProCreate, but Free. It also has an animation Framework, but uses less of the gestures that make ProCreate so easy and quick to use. Still a solid choice for artists, and when utilized correctly, can make for some incredible results.
Photoshop (Various Operating Systems):
A classic. Very powerful. Everyone knows what photoshop is, but not many people know what it can really do. In high school, I developed a workflow that allowed me to create realistic fire using only the custom layer blend modes, the smudge tool, and the color white. ONLY the color white. However, expensive as hell, and the IPad version is missing over 50% of the functionality. Also, Adobe is being kind of a jerk. Fortunately, there is a free, OPEN SOURCE alternative that you can run:
GIMP: General Image Manipulation Program (Linux & Windows)
Gonna be honest, I haven’t used this one as much. I had a raspberry Pi as a kid, and managed to use the command line to install this software on there. It does everything photoshop does, for free. Who needs liscenced software when you have GIMP?
3D Digital:
ZBrush (Windows & MacOS):
Made by Pixologic, this software is POWERFUL. I took animation in high school, and they had the industry-standard version of this software on their computers. It was capable of fine topology control, while also allowing for an organic sculpting experience. It had rudimentary key frame animation, Physically-Based Rendering, Boolean geometry, and best of all: the GoZ plugin. This allowed you to — from inside the program — send your model to programs like Photoshop and TEXTURE THEM FROM PHOTOSHOP. Unfortunately, it’s expensive as hell and also very intimidating. But there are plenty of resources that can help you learn, or of course you could employ the age-old strategy of “mess around and find out” (this actually resulted in my teacher walking over to where I was not paying attention, STARTING to tell me to pay attention, and then being taken aback at what I had managed to teach myself, saying “okay, thats cool. We’ll figure something out”). AMAZING software, if you are financially able to get your hands on it, DO SO.
Sculptris (Windows & MacOS):
Okay, so this software is actually no longer available, as it has been depreciated. It wasn’t all that powerful, but it did have dynamic topology (which means new vertices are generated as you sculpt, meaning you can get some insane detail) and was free and able to run off a 2GB USB. Also, since it was made by Pixologic, it interfaces with ZBrush’s GoZ plugin seamlessly. A good budget software for people just starting out. RIP Sculptris.
Nomad Sculpt (IPad):
Costs a bit, but is worth it. Easy to learn, and powerful to boot. There are a few optimizations that could be made, such as better control over topology (for people who want to make a model that can be animated or textured) and better performance (the battery just… disappears), but it is incredible at what it CAN do. It allows for HDRI environments, refractive materials, layers, post-processing, and custom brushes. A lot of the 3D renders I have on my blog were made using this budget IPad software. Granted, some of the more complicated models have crashed the software upwards of 9 times, but that is a mere inconvenience compared to the final products you can get. Also, its very customizable; right down to the size and color of the UI.
Vectary (ChromeOS):
Normally, ChromeOS isn’t known for being able to run any quality softwares. And that is still the case. But Vectary is the exception. It’s less organic than nomad, but is able to be very precise in terms of topology. Sure there’s a paid premium, but I honestly don’t even notice, as the free version has so much to offer that my other software can more than make up for it. Also, Vectary’s rendering capabilities are INCREDIBLE, on par with professional level softwares.
2D Traditional:
Pencil:
The formative years of my art journey were with pencil sketches. I still didn’t have a good grasp of color theory, so pencils were a comfortable medium. Plus, they’re everywhere, and I can use them everywhere, much to the detriment of my school notebooks. Eventually, you’ll want to move on to more diverse mediums, but even then, a pencil can really help you in any situation. When coupled with blending stubs, can make some really cool results.
Charcoal pencils:
Once I got better at shading, I asked for a Midtone sketchbook for my birthday (or maybe it was Christmas I don’t remember). Since the paper is either grey or brown (also known as a Midtone, hence the name), you can use white colored pencils to add highlights, and work in sepia tones as well as greyscale. Ultimately similar to pencil, but a bit more versatile. Also work well with blending stubs, possibly better than graphite pencils.
Alcohol marker:
My first alcohol markers were of a brand called Ohuhu, which were of a surprisingly good quality, good for people starting out with alcohol markers. The pack came with 80 colors, but I had to buy a colorless blender myself. The benefits of alcohol markers is that they can be blended together. Ohuhu markers aren’t refillable, however, so my grey tones quickly ran out.
Eventually, I got my hands on some Copics. Unlike the Ohuhus, which had a fine tip and a chisel tip, the Copics had a chisel tip and a Brush tip. These things are expensive though, so build your collection slowly according to your needs as an artist. I started with the neutral greys (I managed to snag the last colorless blended in the store), then expanded to warm and cool greys. Despite the high price, these things are worth it. They are refillable, durable, and last long enough to be passed down to your grandkids. And the brush tip feels so freaking Smooth on paper. And when used in conjunction with a white gel pen, they also work on Midtone paper. Versatile, fun, and smooth.
Inks:
When I first started college, I took a class called “sketching for design.” It was this class that forced me to use inks for the first time. It can be intimidating knowing you cant erase things. But if you plan properly using — you guessed it— a pencil, you’ll get the hang of it. Over the course of the class, I was able to learn to use inks to my advantage, even participating in Inktober for the first time as an artist (I didn’t finish, but thats not the point.)
Inking pens have so much variety. I — along with my professor — recommend the following brands:
Tombow: Good Quality, high variety. I especially love their Fudenosuke pens. Good for varying line weight.
Copic Multiliners: One of these came with my first pack of copics. High quality of pen, Lasts a long time.
Pigma Brush Archival Ink pens: this is some high quality crap. Hold a bunch of these in your hand and let them click together and you can HEAR the quality. The pack i got had tip sizes from a huge brush tip all the way down to .20mm (you draw it on paper, and it looks like an eyelash). Be careful with the finer tips though; if you push too hard, you WILL bend them.
Pilot Razor point. Cheap, good quality. These were required for my class, and can be bought in packs of 20. They draw well, and last long.
Ohuhu gel pens: not the best quality, but cheap. To be honest, I only use the white ones, as they work well with Midtone paper. Before I got this, I was using WHITEOUT PENS to get my highlights. BIG MISTAKE. Whiteout looks drastically different in sunlight than it does under fluorescent lights. And it’s chunky.
Acrylic paint:
I haven’t worked much with paints, But I did help paint some tiny fairy doors for my sister’s birthday once. They turned out better than I expected them to.
3D Traditional:
Polymer Clay:
My school Had a thing called a senior project, where each senior had to learn a new skill (I talked about it in the clown painting post). I worked with polymer clay (super sculpted to be exact) to make a statue of Christ (I got really inspired by the work of Michelangelo). It turned out… alright. It didn’t help that I didn’t have the proper tools to sculpt with, so I either made my own, or got crappy ones from the dollar store. I am convinced that the only way it turned out as well as it did was due to divine intervention (and I’m only half joking; there was one instance where I just felt my hands doing their own thing despite having NEVER WORKED WITH THE MEDIUM PRIOR TO THAT MOMENT).
Origami:
As someone with ADHD, I had trouble keeping my hands busy (now that I think about it, that’s probably part of what drew me to art). Origami was a way to combat this. I’d just make random folds, making weird shapes, until I had some idea of what the piece was going to be (that’s how I made tiny origami platypodes without any instructions). Easy to get into, easy to learn, helps with ADHD.
LEGO:
I played with LEGO for quite awhile. To me, It was no longer a toy, it was a medium. As I got better at art, I got better at LEGO. The best part about it was that my artworks could MOVE, they could be interacted with. Getting into LEGO isn’t difficult in the slightest, but getting good at it is a bit harder. Think about it as you would building miniatures (which I haven’t done yet but shut up), and learn from the techniques in the instructions.
I know this has been something of a long post, which is uncharacteristic of me (honestly, I don’t even know how I was able to focus for this long). People often approach art with a defeatist attitude, saying that they just aren’t good at it. Yeah, well I wasn’t either when I started. I got to where I am through practice. Practice, and screwing around and finding out. It doesn’t matter if you have the supplies. Cavemen were drawing on rocks with dirt. People banged rocks together into funny shapes. You make do with what you have, and with enough practice, you can do incredible things with even the most basic of tools.

I met Anna because she flatly
I met Anna because she flatly offered to talk to me — clothed or unclothed — in exchange for money. Camming has become a huge part of the sex industry over the past decade, and it’s continuing to grow. Feminism has come to be in every essence of my being, and having somebody question my core beliefs was incredibly jarring. But her words lingered in my mind all night. Unfortunately there's a lot of girls who do turn to webcamming for the wrong reasons, especially when it comes to money, and a lot of people feel guilty for doing it. Anna embodies almost every delightful stereotype an American brain can hold over a young girl from Romania. Youre not sharing it with 100 thousand other people. But the English teacher, Andrea, has a remit that goes far beyond language skills. One had a wife who insulted her constantly. Inside, Studio 20 feels like the Paramount Pictures of camming. She says that if she ever was, she'd just "ask then [sic] how hard they came and if i'll be seeing them as one of my regulars," which is just good business sense. And that is not to say that there haven’t been bad times, like in any job. Peel away the sex and pixels and money and you're left with the cloudy truth about the internet's relationship status with these on-demand entertainers: it's complicated. The next step is prostitution. I see that now.
Women already have plenty of dick pics, thanks. 20 bucks for six hours of sitting around in my underwear, netflirting with dudes. Unless of course you want to do shows for gay men, which she says a lot of straight male cam models find "strange," probably because those guys assumed they'd be models for women. But, like Domino, heard things about the lucrative streaming flesh trade — a recommendation from a male friend who convinced her to strip from his cramped two-room apartment as he did the same in the other room. Before she started stripping — both online and off — Domino was a suit: working at a Fortune 500 company as a graphic designer. Entirely unsurprisingly, it's impossible to get in touch with any of the people who actually run these networks. To this end, Studio 20 employs trainers, a psychologist and an English teacher. Instead: a bright, modern apartment inhabited by a bright, modern girl. Cant you read the profile that says, Australian?Which on the surface would seem like a less daunting task, but for me it left me stumped. She claims to have almost no "real" friends off of the internet, but is consistently cheery, and enormously talkative. Money trickled in. She says the last three weeks have been "the slowest in three years...very bad. Still, she's a rich woman in an industry of destitution.Streamate itself is hard to pin down. I was naked underneath my pink robe, hair extensions falling out, one eyelash stubbornly stuck on.
But when her camera first flipped on for me, I didn't see the stained walls of a prostitute's den. Heidi sells her underwear for $100 and has performed sex acts on other girls for her followers. This accounts for the fact that those who talked to the BBC in Bucharest preferred to use their cam name, or just a first name.Sometimes self-regulation regarding finances is the best option for some people: Ive been treated better and more fairly as a Cam Girl and nude model than I was in my last retail job where I, no word of a lie, got fired for looking sad. Even so, it’s clear that Ona Artist really likes her job. Part of the misconception comes from the fact that it's not policed. And so far all Id done in a chat room was flash my boobs for an influx of tokens. This is my art, and whilst I am making myself sexually desirable, nobody can objectify me, as I hold that power. At times, it's hard to believe Mila even enjoys the work. I stopped by one of her more recent shows, and she sat, almost motionless, with her top unbuttoned, literally wincing. One of the cam girls, Rosie Renee, became a camgirl in May because she wanted a job where she could choose her own hours and work from home.Odds are, you're referred by a newspaper or website listing. But it's enough for her to be completely self-sufficient, albeit weary of the whole thing sometimes. At times, it's hard to believe Mila even enjoys the work. I stopped by one of her more recent shows, and she sat, almost motionless, with her top unbuttoned, literally wincing. Anna embodies almost every delightful stereotype an American brain can hold over a young girl from Romania.

8 Tips To See Broadway Shows Without Going Broke
Theater doesn't have to be crazy expensive. Louis Peitzman - November 15, 2016, BuzzFeed News Reporter
Whether you're visiting New York or you live here full-time, this is your guide to seeing more theater. No, there isn't a secret trick to instantly acquiring affordable tickets to Hamilton, but that doesn't mean you should give up on seeing it or any number of the great shows currently on and off Broadway. If you've ever wondered how some of your friends manage to see everything without going totally broke, they're either preposterously wealthy or they employ the following methods to acquire tickets that won't break the bank. So, check out the listings of current Broadway and off-Broadway shows — or prepare for something down the line with Playbill's guide to what's coming on the Great White Way or beyond — and then get to saving.

So, check out the listings of current Broadway and off-Broadway shows — or prepare for something down the line with Playbill's guide to what's coming on the Great White Way or beyond — and then get to saving.
1. Buy rush tickets. Rush tickets are sold day of and you have to be willing to stand (or sit) in line, but they offer some of the best seats at the lowest prices. It's pretty simple: You just go to the box office of the theater for the show you want to see when it opens (usually 10 a.m., but contact the box office in advance to be sure) and buy one of the limited discounted tickets available for that day's performance. The bad news is you won't be the only person to have this brilliant idea, so you're going to want to show up early to ensure you snag one. When Rent — which introduced the concept of rush tickets — was at the height of its popularity, people camped out on the street. Those tickets were $20, and you're unlikely to find anything that inexpensive now, but most rush tickets are in the $30 to $40 range. (Be advised that some shows do student rush only, which means you actually need to be a student. And if that's you, bring your ID!) 2. Buy SRO tickets. SRO stands for "standing room only," so ask yourself: Am I willing to stand for upwards of two and a half hours? If you are, congratulations, SRO may be the best option for you! These tickets tend to be slightly cheaper than rush, though different shows have different policies (and many don't do SRO at all, so be sure to call the box office in advance). The catch here is that, for the most part, SRO tickets are only sold if the show is totally sold out. (Otherwise they want you to just buy a normal ticket.) You are often limited to one SRO ticket per person, so again, check the individual show's policy. 3. Enter lotteries. If you've entered and lost the Hamilton lottery 200 times in a row, you a) are not alone, and b) probably have a skewed view of how hard it is to win a Broadway lottery. Naturally, it depends on the show and how popular it is — and if you can enter online, because people are a lot more likely to do something that doesn't require actually showing up. Some shows only let you enter the lottery on the day of, while others will let you submit for several dates at once. These tickets are also in the $30 to $40 range, and they're even more of a crapshoot than rush. However, many shows will offer you discount tickets if you don't win the lottery, so you could still be getting a reasonable deal. Plus, the thrill of winning undercuts the fact that, even with a discount, you're throwing down a not insignificant $80 for a pair of tickets. 4. Bookmark the reference sites. There are a bunch of sites you should have in your rotation for the most up-to-date information on rush tickets, SRO tickets, lotteries, and other discount opportunities. Broadway for Broke People easily has the best name, and it's comprehensive. Playbill also keeps a regularly updated list of rush and lottery policies for current shows, both on Broadway and off. But you should still contact individual theaters before showing up at the box office, just in case they've recently switched things up. 5. Visit a TKTS booth. TKTS is a New York City institution. If you've ever seen a large group of tourists lining up in the center of Times Square (on the corner of 47th Street and 7th Avenue), there's a good chance it was for the thrill of buying half-price tickets at TKTS (though it could have been for a photo with budget Dora the Explorer). You have to show up in person and wait in line to get a ticket via TKTS, and discounts are only for shows that day. Tickets are up to 50% off, which means you might have to settle for, like, 35% off. There are actually three TKTS booths besides the iconic one in Times Square — in South Street Seaport, downtown Brooklyn, and a pop-up through Jan. 28 at Lincoln Center. While you can't know ahead of time what will be available on the day you go, you can check the website or the app before you head over to see what they're currently offering and plan accordingly. 6. Join TDF. TKTS is a service of the Theatre Development Fund, or TDF. You can actually become a TDF member if you're eligible, and for a very reasonable $34 annual fee, you have access to serious discounts: Tickets range from $9 to $47. The catch is, you have to prove your eligibility. Students, teachers, freelancers, union members, recent graduates, and professional artists all qualify, but there are other ways in — check the site for a full list of who can apply for membership. 7. Join Hiptix, LincTix, and more. If you're under 35, you can join Hiptix and LincTix, both of which offer very affordable tickets to shows at their respective theaters. Hiptix is Roundabout's discount ticket program: Tickets to any Roundabout production can be purchased for $25, and while they're generally in the mezzanine, you can pay a little extra to upgrade to orchestra seats. LincTix is a program for Lincoln Center Theater shows and will get you into any of their productions for $32. Both are free to join, and you can secure your discount seats right away. There are similar programs hosted by various other theaters. Manhattan Theatre Club, for example, has a 30 Under 30 program that will get you into any of their shows for $30, provided you are — you guessed it — under 30. Do you know these questions about music school?
While acknowledging that, let'azines get some of the Leading 15 goods you should consider any time buying a music school.
"Exactly how Very much Can it Value?"
We're also starting with #10 for the reason that out of all the telephone calls we, "The amount of?" is undoubtedly the actual #1 question people ask. Indeed, today'azines economy involves that we always be actually attentive of the fees although unfortunately, "The amount of?" must be on the list of final queries i hear you ask with regards to buying a music school.
Purchasing correct music instructor is actually NOT for instance choosing a could regarding pinto beans on the market store. There is just not any method for you to examine any full-time certified qualified instructor getting generations of experience on the 16-year-old little one upcoming door. Yes, in which little one can probably perform sufficiently to move his / her check-ups although in which doesn't testosterone imply the guy can TEACH.
On top of that, a professional instructor can be another instructor, vocation psychologist, guru, psychologist, in addition to specialist involving all kinds of other roles. You actually don'testosterone need end by yourself at the disposal of somebody who has hardly figured out his or her own life... no matter how low cost the value!
"The place Are usually Anyone Found?"
"The place do you think you're located" is actually the second most-asked question. Purportedly, people are searching for convenience. Sadly, there're having this ahead of some other things which must be regarded as priorities. kids music
Let's express ones next-door friend confirms to instruct your kids music with regard to $1 each training (not most likely, and a example). You actually can testosterone obtain less costly in addition to more convenient than in which! Nevertheless, right after one year you sad to say know that your youngster can testosterone perform anything at all, is totally discouraged and wishes to quit. Amazingly, many people BLAME THE CHILD finishing things such as, "Oh yea, your woman ought not to be very musical" or perhaps "Maybe your woman merely wasn'testosterone interested."
Such a unique tale this happens to be, in addition to ought to have already been, got you given ones child'azines survival on the very careful watch regarding a correct instructor! Alternatively, the kid is actually powered down regarding music for a lifetime, and you are therefore playing any bitter experience in addition to bare storage compartments to demonstrate in your investment.
OK, thus we've obtained the two BIGGIES outside the way. At this moment now you ask ,, "Just what SHOULD you look with regard to?"
Properly, that's a great question. I'm Arielle happy you enquired!
If you do taken any time to understand exactly what you long for to accomplish through your research regarding music, the actual MOST critical question you are able to ask is actually:
"Exactly how Might That Tutor Guide Everyone Attain My Objectives?"
Let'azines express you go to my own college that has a aim regarding establishing on your own since a fresh newbie in addition to you would like to complete ones quality ten requirements in one year; you have any $150 computer keyboard you purchased out of WalMart; and also you don'testosterone need to rehearse in excess of 3 or perhaps 4 days to weeks 7 days, in addition to only 20-30 units any day... well...
Indeed, this IS possible to scrape through using the minimum amount requirements in addition to have that incomprehensible piece of paper within a relatively short time regarding time. Although precisely what do you encourage by yourself in addition to the group in the event that a couple of weeks eventually right after passing ones quiz, you are unable to perform just one observe or even begin to understand an audio lesson by yourself?
When people ask my own learners, "Who seem to is the best instructor?", I need in which question due to a optimistic outlook as if to say, "Seriously, that you are flexible! You will need a very good teacher."
Around the above mentioned instance, when someone enquired in which quick-pass student to experience one thing anf the husband couldn'testosterone, though he or she 'passed' his / her quiz, what makes in which make the instructor seem?
For me personally, I will not be part of the actual quick-pass scheme. My greatest suggestions so that you can you and all of all my own learners is actually, "DON'T DO THIS!"
Just what is the BIG HURRY? Learning is actually an ongoing talent in addition to unless you understand you are going to cease to live shortly, you've obtained time frame! It will be greater to develop the favorable practice of performing items to the very best of ones ability. Doing this, you may be more profitable in everyday life as opposed to always looking for the simple and fast technique out.
Nevertheless, in the event that you will still demand speeding, I will relate you to folks that can love to get your cash though offering you one thing with regard to nothing. BUYER BEWARE! There are lots of folks that requires your cash in the event that you just side this so that you can them. In terms of ones education and learning, 'Affordable, Convenient in addition to Fast' will be not at all times the most effective things. Re-examine ones goals and find these within order. And inquire greater queries!
"Just what Will probably Often be Demanded regarding Everyone?"
This is the upcoming MOST critical question you should be asking.
Instructors can offer numerous unique requirements in addition to anticipations because there are students. All these vary from any "Whatever - Nearly anything Goes" kind of approach so that you can include those with crystal clear, properly planned out insurance plans made through a long time of experience in addition to designed to conserve the student-teacher-parent partnership pass more smoothly.
The more effective educational facilities in addition to course instructors can expect you to help to make some type of commitment. Many chaotic course instructors don'testosterone have enough to fight innovative learners whom only want to "Try it out out" for your thirty days or perhaps two. The achieved instructor is actually not planning to "TRY" so that you can coach you; they are focused on DOING IT, this means you really should include the actual approach in which you are going to DO IT, way too! Normally, commit ones hard-earned cash and time within one thing else.
As said before before, we a fair level of people wanting to know regarding piano instruction whom don'testosterone own any piano and get not any goal to getting one out of the actual around future. What'azines up start?
You want to capture piano instruction? Get a correct device!
PERIOD!
A superb instructor will expect a firm time frame responsibility within you and can definitely not accept too many changes in routine because you drift from a single hobby so that you can another. Make a decision with what for you to do; in that case DO IT! Ones instructor could and really should expect you to practice frequently at home and go to type prepared for your employed time frame every week.
Are you over-committed by using too many exercises? Don't Testosterone muddle increase teacher'azines existence through wreaking mayhem along with your schedule. Reconcile just for certain things in addition to accomplish these properly, as opposed to striving to become jack-of-all-trades in addition to master-of-none!
Right after teaching in addition to respecting ones teacher'azines suggestions is the one other area of expectation. A superb instructor knows out of a great deal of dedicated hard work and frequently annoying experience what is going to work in addition to exactly what won't. Possessing a dad or mom explain to the actual instructor, "Properly my own friend'azines daughter azines instructor doesn't testosterone help to make the woman make it happen," is actually an action regarding entire disrespect. That you are shelling out ones instructor to undertake a job, thus allow your ex DO THEIR JOB!
Remember to be specific in your teacher's insurance plans in addition to anticipations in addition to expect you'll respect these if you need to grow in addition to keep a powerful functioning relationship. Normally, hire a roofer else by using which team you can really feel more comfortable.
"Might I Fully grasp My Tutor?"
Through Greater toronto area, just as all kinds of other large urban centers globally, at this time there is an excellent variety regarding culture. Among the list of population are many definitely brilliant course instructors in addition to artists whom competent in the actual 'Old-World' style and get fantastic beliefs to share with the learners such as fortitude, tolerance in addition to self-discipline.
Sadly, English language just isn't the initially language, thus with regards to connection there exists a tremendous force on comprehension.
Tune in, studying almost any innovative talent is actually with enough contentration and never have to triumph over any language obstacle, too. Opt for a tutor whom you are able to comprehend in addition to whom knows you. Because ones instructor has all kinds of remarkable degrees in addition to certification, people mean very little for those who can'testosterone know what ones instructor says!
In addition to while we're talking about comprehending, language is actually not the only prohibit so that you can communication. Sometimes you will find variations in way of life, such as generation-gaps, play choices in addition to inclinations, etc. It is important to have somebody you are able to bond to.
To illustrate, either Mozart in addition to Mozart had been certainly 2 of the greatest play minds in which actually lived. Who seem to wouldn'testosterone need to analyze by using geniuses that adheres to that, right? Nevertheless, if it stumbled on manners, either males had been considered quite on the opposite end of the spectrum. Merely could hardly accept functioning online websites in addition to regarded the majority of the other male to get underneath themselves. That undoubtedly didn'testosterone lead to any feasible student- instructor relationship.
"Just what Type of Inspiration & Rewards Will probably My Tutor Utilize?"
The study of music might be fun. In reality, it must be enjoyment more often than not; usually there is truly not any good reason to stay by using it.
Obviously, there are always going to get those days any time truly isn'testosterone fun. Perfecting almost any talent can take some degree regarding dedication in addition to responsibility; that's referred to as "challenging work" in order to use it within basic English. Exactly what you've always wondered while you are buying music college is actually, "Bed not the culprit my own instructor planning to promote me standing on purchasing any time I recently don'testosterone sense that exercising?"
Are you prepared to try a 'Dictator'? By incorporating course instructors, it'azines THEIR WAY or even the highway. You might not like this approach. Then again, you may perfectly require that kind of discipline.
Nevertheless, I've got learners whom definitely rip apart on the blink of eye. The least tonal inflection regarding my own voice could possibly embark any feature regarding tears.
Get to know in addition to comprehend ones teacher’s identity style and find out when it fits your own property and especially ones child'azines temperament. This could certainly help to make a major difference inside world.
Merely when you obtain adequate strategies to these and also other identical queries really should i hear you ask:
The place do you think you're situated?
The amount of manages to do it price tag?
Do my teachers teach the instruments like, piano lessons, violin lessons and guitar lessons?
Recall, it's about inquiring excellent questions. Dolphins, good luck ones music college shopping.
The earth can sound like a wild place sometimes...
OK, any LOT of that time!

How To Become Superior Performer
“You win some, you lose some;” you’ve probably heard the phrase a million times. But even though there might be some truth to it, wouldn’t it be better to not lose at all?
This post gives great advice on how to improve your performance, including some useful techniques and methods.
In order to win, you have to experience losing first.
Sure, none of us like to lose. Whether it’s a tennis match, the fight for a promotion or a game of Monopoly, losing isn’t something we look forward to. But should we look upon losing so negatively?
The truth is, losing has its benefits. This is a lesson Josh first learned when he was ten years old, when he began to compete in adult chess tournaments. He started off losing matches, which was frustrating at first. But he then started reflecting on his performance: why weren’t his skills up to scratch?
Josh realized that he was losing matches because of a lack of concentration. In adult tournaments, matches were twice as long. At such a young age, he simply couldn’t match the focus and concentration of his older opponents. Losing helped him realize that endurance was his main weakness, so he began to work to improve it.
If you want to improve your performance, you need to seek out opponents that are better than you. By investing in loss, you can welcome the opportunity to learn. This is true no matter what your specialty or field, and it’s even true for children, too.
These days, many parents and teachers believe that competition is unhealthy for children. But the opposite is true: just the right amount of competition can equip children to cope with obstacles later in life. So how much competition is the right amount? One way to approach it is by using short-term goals to nurture a long-term goal.
If a child loses a sporting match or a competition in a hobby they care about, parents should first make sure to assure their child that it’s okay if they feel sad or disappointed. Parents should also show the child how proud they are of her, and help her identify ways to improve. From this, the child can develop the short-term goal of learning new skills and developing new strengths before the next competition.
Prepare to feel vulnerable during the learning process.
Natural talent can only take you so far. If you want to be the best, you’ve got to be ready and willing to learn, which means facing your own vulnerability and mistakes. This can be a little daunting, but it’s a natural part of the learning process.
When we’re in a learning phase, we often feel weak, exhausted or hopeless, and this is something we can also experience physically. A boxer with a great right hand but a weak left hand will take plenty of punches and go through some tough rounds while learning to use his left side more skillfully.
Although learning through trial, error and slow improvement is tough, we should be careful not to doubt ourselves. This can quickly lead to a downward spiral, in which we berate ourselves for every mistake, and the possibility of achieving our goals seems to shrink at every turn.
Luckily, it’s simple to avoid this vicious cycle; it all comes down to taking a step back each time you make a mistake.
If something goes wrong in your training or practice, find your own personal trick to regain clarity of mind. You could take a few deep breaths, splash cold water on your face or even sprint 50 yards! Whatever it is that works for you, it’s vital to have this technique on hand so you can keep your positive energy flowing.
Stay on track with an incremental approach to learning.
Out of all the motivated and talented people in the world, only a few really make it big. Why? Unfortunately, all too many people veer off their path to success after one mistake that scares them away. This is part of an entity approach to learning, and it’s one to avoid.
When we see our intelligence, skill or talent as a fixed entity, success or failure seems to be the result of how much of this entity you possess. This makes us far more likely to quit when faced with difficult challenges, as we believe that if we can’t overcome them the first time, we simply don’t have the ability to overcome them at all.
In short, an entity approach to learning prevents you from doing any real learning at all. If you want to gain from the inevitable mistakes and shortcomings that you will experience in your training, you’ll need to develop an incremental approach to learning.
By taking the incremental approach, we recognize that we have the ability to grasp any concept or skill, as long as we put in the necessary hard work. Unlike those employing an entity approach, people with an incremental approach are far more likely to rise to a challenge.
The difference between these two learning approaches was revealed in a study where children were given easy math problems to solve. All of them solved the problems correctly and progressed to the next round, where they received much more difficult problems that they were unable to solve.
Children with an incremental approach were excited about the challenge, while children with an entity approach reported feeling discouraged.
In the final round, the children were presented with easy problems once again. Those with an incremental approach solved them easily; in contrast, the children with an entity approach, suffering from decreased self-esteem after the second round, were unable to complete problems they would easily have been able to solve beforehand.
Practice turns learned techniques into intuitive responses.
For most of us, the incredible speed and agility of a martial arts master seems thoroughly unattainable. But is it really? These masters have simply trained so much that they have reached the point of fighting intuitively. You too can get this good at any skill – but how?
As the cliché goes, practice makes perfect. Any technical information, from patterns to strategies to techniques, can feel like natural, instinctual intelligence if you practice and apply them enough. For example, every chess beginner learns that the pieces have numerical equivalents – a bishop, for instance, is worth three pawns.
At first, players will count the equivalents in their heads, but this eventually stops once they manage to improve their skill level. What happens? Well, something that was once seen mathematically is now felt intuitively. And once certain patterns become intuitive to you, that’s when the fun really begins.
Skilled chess players are able to play with patterns, making small adjustments to confuse their opponents and gain advantages. One fundamental pattern or principle in chess is central control, whereby a player who dominates the middle of a chessboard has the strategic advantage.
If you’re a chess star like Michael Adams, you can win even when all your pieces are along the sides of the board, having twisted the classic central control pattern to your advantage. The greatest benefit of training your intuition, however, is being able to free up your conscious mind. When you don’t have to remind yourself of how certain patterns work, you can zoom in on different details.
A superior martial artist can use his extra focus to look for the subtlest weaknesses in his opponent’s position, or even monitor their blinking in order to attack at just the right second. Yes, these are things that the human mind really is capable of!
Embrace disruptions as opportunities to cultivate resilience.
Picture this: you’re in a state of perfect concentration – and suddenly, your phone rings. Or your child comes to play with you. Or your partner has to ask you an important question about something. Would you get annoyed?
When we react to disruptions with irritation, stress or anger, it means we’re in the hard zone. In these situations, we feel that the world should cooperate with us and our current state of mind. But the world simply doesn’t work that way! We should be able to function even under less-than-ideal circumstances.
How? By entering the soft zone. This means rolling with the punches and accepting whatever circumstances we face, no matter how frustrating they might be. This, in turn, allows us to cultivate resilience when disaster strikes.
For example, josh once lost an important chess tournament because of a song that was constantly distracting him – it wasn’t playing in the background, but it was stuck in his head. Even this was enough to shake the supreme concentration required to manage calculations during a match.
Recognizing this as a problem, josh started playing music while practicing at home. But rather than trying to block them out, he learned to think within the rhythm of the songs instead! This boosted his concentration so much that he even started singing songs in his head on purpose during tournaments, just to keep his mental energy up.
You can cultivate your mental resilience by deliberately putting yourself into situations that challenge your concentration. If you’re a writer, why not open a window and welcome the sound of your neighbors mowing their lawn as you work? By challenging your brain, you can only make it stronger.
Learn efficient recovery techniques to boost your performance.
We all know that we perform at our best after a good night’s sleep. Despite this, it’s often too tempting to sacrifice some shut-eye and study late into the night instead. Resist it!
Insufficient rest leads to repetitive, inefficient and imprecise thinking. Why? Because our mind is only able to stay focused on one thing for a limited time. After resting, our minds are better able to snap back into powerful concentration. The more able you are to clear your mind within a break, the better your performance will be upon returning.
Superior performers can actually make full mental recoveries in short periods of time, as short as one minute breaks between chess match rounds. Psychologists at the Human Performance Institute (HPI) in Orlando discovered that training the ability to relax in short moments of inactivity is a decisive factor in progress toward becoming a leading performer.
So how can you practice your recoveries? Consider taking up cardiovascular interval training. This means performing a series of short, high-intensity workouts with regular rests distributed throughout. HPI discovered that there is a physiological connection between cardiovascular interval training and the ability to quickly release stress and recover from mental exhaustion.
You can even practice cardiovascular interval training on a stationary bike. First, ride with high resistance, which will rocket your heart rate. Then slow down for a minute on low resistance, thus lowering your heart rate. Then sprint again until your heart rate is high. Then slow down again. And repeat!
The more you do it, the longer it’ll take to raise your heart rate and the quicker you’ll be at lowering it. With intensive training you will have better endurance, helping you relax more effectively when you need it most.
Create a routine to get into the zone.
Do you have problems getting into the zone? Do you find yourself easily distracted in important meetings or when faced with a deadline? These situations can be incredibly frustrating. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a switch you could flick that instantly took you into peak performance mode?
Good news: that’s not as impossible as it sounds! By creating and practicing a routine, you can summon your best performance. Think of a moment, situation or activity during which you experience complete and serene focus – moments that make you feel like nothing else in the world exists.
Suppose this moment for you is swimming. Keep this in mind as you create a four- or five-step routine to precede this activity. Let’s say you eat a light snack, do a 15-minute breathing exercise or other meditation practice, stretch for ten minutes and listen to your favorite song. Then go swimming!
If you repeat this routine everyday, you create a powerful physiological connection between the routine and the performance you give afterward in the swimming pool. As this routine becomes completely natural to you, you can transplant it from swimming to work, practicing it before important meetings or crucial tasks.
Finally, once you’ve got your routine down, you can condense it into a shorter time frame. Often, we don’t have an hour before any important moment to go through our routine. But we can make our routines more flexible, by altering the steps a little.
You could exchange the light snack for heavier breakfast to have more energy for longer, or shorten the meditation or stretching outside by a minute, and listen to the song on your way to work.
By slowly and gradually adjusting the routine, you can condense it to few minutes. And with constant practice, the masters of this technique reach a state where only thinking about a part of the routine triggers their high-performance state.
Anybody can achieve superior performance with the right mind-set, perseverance, dedication and strategy. Using performance psychology methods, you can learn to manage your ability to focus and relax, switching between them as needed.

I’m a triathlete. At least that’s what I tell myself. I’ve competed in four professional triathlons, and recently placed fifth overall and second in my age group at the Pasadena Triathlon on March 7th. It was the last large group gathering that I was able to participate in before the pandemic swept across the nation and is something I’m quite proud of.
I certainly don’t mean to be insensitive to what’s actually happening in the world right now. According to the most recent statistic there are more than one million cases of COVID-19 worldwide with more than 70,000 deaths. Holy shit. That’s no joke. I certainly don’t want to minimize the severity of this moment by talking about something as trivial as a triathlon that I competed in or how it relates to my brand as an actor, but because I’m stuck inside on this grey-wet day in South Pasadena, I gotta pass the time with making sense of this. So, here goes.
The question comes to me during this moment of self-quarantine: should I be learning new skills, taking online classes that might increase my marketability when the economy “opens back up”, or should I double down on the things I’m good at and focus on becoming a master of what I was currently focused on before the start of this pandemic? Prior to COVID-19, I was waiting tables at a great restaurant in Downtown LA, Rossoblu, and pursuing an acting career. I had just booked my first independent film that would have had me traveling to Washington State for a three day shoot. It was something I was really excited to do and share with my agents, managers and my family back home.
Sadly, that’s been put on the back burner, as has my ability to generate income. At that time, I had also been working towards producing a one man show I’ve been writing for this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. I’d produced two plays I wrote for the Hollywood Fringe in 2018 and 2019 and experienced a great deal of personal and professional success because of it, so this year’s experience was something I was very much looking forward to. The process of having done so has given me a great sense of identity and momentum in this city and industry of so many self-creating content makers. Because of my efforts, I’d felt like a contributing artist.
Also, because I was gainfully employed by a great restaurant, it gave me the chance to devote the morning and daytime hours to my craft of acting and writing. Now what? Do I get a job as a cashier at a supermarket? (By the way, I’ve applied to over six grocery stores, did so in the first week of self-quarantine, and have not heard a single response. Ergo, the whole “everybody’s hiring” thing just doesn’t seem to apply to me.) And so I return to my original question: Do I explore new ways of making income such as expanding on a basic skill I have, such as knowing how to code, or do I double down on the skills I am good at, writing, acting, and hope that when this pandemic ceases, I’ll have a substantial body of work to share with the world?
My gut tells me to move in the direction what I am already good at, rather than pick up something completely new and go in a different direction. If all else fails, however, I do believe that I could “fall back” on my experience, degree, and license as a Secondary Educator and hopefully gain work with Teach for America or perhaps as a substitute teacher. Until that moment becomes clear, I find it necessary to dig into the creative pursuits that I have initially set for myself. Consequently, I picked up Bonnie Gillespie’s book, “Self Management for Actors”, now in it’s fourth edition, and am diving into her words of wisdom, learning a lot about the business side of acting and how to best brand myself.
The question of “what is my brand” keeps coming up and I feel like the avenues I have pursued of becoming a competitive triathlete really speak to the brand that I want to cultivate for myself. Like I said, I’ve competed in four triathlons since the summer of 2018, and expect to do more. I feel like this skill sets me apart from the millions of other white dudes in this city aching for the chance to get cast on NCIS. But because I’m not able to swim, I’ve really focused my time on running and biking, both for the sheer joy of it but also to develop that skill that helps me cultivate my brand. Doing so has been such a great outlet for nearly the past month or so, getting out there to feel the fresh air on my skin, the wing whipping by, thereby returning to some semblance of normalcy.
But to what end? Who do I serve by running, biking, and swimming? In the Nautica Malibu Triahtlon during the late summer of 2019, I raised $400 towards the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. It felt great to somehow give back. But the amount I generated paled in comparison to the thousands of dollars that other generated, and even the tens of thousands that corporations were able to give. So, what’s the point? Who am I serving by this? Myself and only me?
I don’t have any answers, only questions. I base my pursuit of becoming an actor in the knowledge that, when I was a High School English and Drama teacher for international schools in Southeast Asia I determined that teaching was not the career I wanted. It was because of the economic recession of 2008 that led me into teaching in the first place. Acting was not feasible for me then, and so I retreated to the safety of a certain paycheck. Now, however, that I’m standing on a cliff looking over an abyss of uncertainty, I’m wondering if I should pack it up and pursue a more steady, certain path of teaching? Is history repeating itself in my corner of the globe?
At this moment, even though the questions linger, I feel certain that my path is that of an artist. I write. I act. I create. Who do I serve by doing so? That remains to be seen. Myself? Will you forgive me if my life and my life’s work amounts to only the words on the page that never make it to the stage? Will you forgive me if the best I get as an actor is an independent feature that shoots in Washington state for a three day shoot?
In one of my plays, “The Sower”, the character of Paul Gauguin says to an ailing Vincent Van Gogh after severing his ear, that “an artist creates because he has to create. If he didn’t it would swell up within him and die.” So with that in mind, dear reader, I will do my best as Ms. Gillespie says so eloquently in her book, “to pull back the curtains on my process”, and move into the rest of the day, where a solo performance script waits unfinished on my laptop, a podcast is yet to be launched, and a whole slew of other tasks necessary to move my career forward wait with open arms. Until next time, keep pounding the pavement.

What Does an Artist Coach Do?
The Therapist, 2018. Audun Alvestad Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery
I’ve always been slightly curious about—if not downright suspicious of—people who have never been in therapy. How could you not want to pay someone to listen to your hopes and fears and anxieties, to gently nudge you in the direction of better personhood? (Of course, too often it’s the cost or a lack of insurance that is prohibitive.) But therapeutic options are myriad, and there’s no one-size-fits-all scenario. For every person in old-school psychoanalysis, there’s another who is meeting with an unlicensed healer to discuss chakras and cleanses. There are cognitive-behaviorists, nutrition coaches, life coaches, business coaches, and people you can hire to babysit you during psychedelic drug trips. If you’ve got a problem, there’s always someone out there who you can hire to help you solve it.
Unsurprisingly, there are also artist coaches, whose services are geared toward both creative professionals and hobbyists. In order to get a handle on what this type of counseling entails—and who it might be best suited for—I reached out to five very different artist coaches. Some are laser-focused on improving your earning potential, while others treat artmaking as more of a process of self-discovery that has little to do with a paycheck. All of them share a passion for helping their clients become better artists and, perhaps, more balanced human beings.
Public speaking and learning to tell your story
Gigi Rosenberg teaching in New York. Courtesy of Gigi Rosenberg.
Portland, Oregon–based Gigi Rosenberg said that her “perfect client” is someone who has spent about five years engaged in their practice. Most of the people she works with are in their thirties or considerably older, rather than bright-eyed, recent art-school grads. “It’s somebody who’s really ready to, basically, listen to me,” she laughed, “to take direction and really move their career to the next level.” Rosenberg offers in-person sessions at her office, but also regularly conducts online consultations with clients who may hail from the Middle East or Mexico.
Coaching, for her, entails a wide range of services—from assistance with grant-writing to informal website critique. Preliminary sessions aim to get artists thinking about how they define success and where they want to go in their careers. “I find it so easy to tell when somebody is excited about something, versus when they’re just doing it because they think they should,” Rosenberg said. She tries to distill an artist’s desires and motivations with questions like “Do you really want a gallery, or just think you should get a gallery?” It’s this nuance that makes an artist coach more of a resource than, say, a well-meaning friend who’s willing to visit your studio and listen to your problems.
Rosenberg’s practice also emphasizes storytelling—sharpening the ways in which an artist can convey her work in different contexts. Public-speaking has become a centerpiece of her coaching. Artists who are gearing up for a talk or a presentation might give it a dry run during a coaching session, either in-person or via video chat. Rosenberg helps tweak both the “content and the actual performance,” and cautions artists out of familiar pitfalls. A client might think they need to sound “academic and jargon-y,” or they might have the opposite problem—that their story is too vague or wishy-washy. “The comment I mostly give is, ‘This sounds like it could be any artist,’” Rosenberg added, alluding to a hypothetical artist who might boldly state that they’re “interested in the human condition” or other enormous concepts.
A safe space for early-stage artists
Artist coaches like Lauren Rader are a good fit for someone who approaches artmaking as a creative outlet, rather than with ambitions to launch a lucrative career. Rader thinks of herself as something akin to a guide, and her methods are closer to hands-on art-teaching, with less of the professional development tactics that some coaches employ. “I’m very interested in the creative process, and each person’s personal expression—creating art from a place of truth,” she said. Her clients might even be completely new to artmaking. “I’m very much about coming in where they’re at, and figuring out what’s going to help move them forward in a personally real and fulfilling way,” she added.
Rader’s style sounds akin to a gentle crit. Yet while MFA programs have a reputation for their constructive viciousness—with teachers and fellow students attacking one’s work in order to improve it—this art coach isn’t trying to make domineering value judgments.
Rader mentioned that one student she was mentoring in a group setting had soured on the often brutal atmosphere in art school. Indeed, she said that part of her job is to help repair the damage that rampant criticality may have had on her artist-client’s self-esteem. Many people she works with are coming to her “having been crushed” from some hurtful criticism, she said, and are trying to get back to their art.
Rader would make an ideal coach for someone who wants to make art a bigger part of their life, even if they’re not eager to swim into the ultra-competitive market. “You don’t give up your high standards,” Rader said, reflecting on her coaching philosophy, “but you can still be kind and thoughtful.”
Show me the money!

Bridgette Mayer wears many hats: gallerist, art consultant, author, and coach. Her extensive background makes her a go-to resource for established artists who are keen to evolve—and to monetize their artmaking. “I don’t do the work for the artist,” she said. “I ask them questions; get their wheels spinning.” Artists generally sign on to work with her for a period of 90 days, with check-in calls every 10 days. These intense, fast-paced conversations generate “a whole checklist of things that they need to do,” she said.
Mayer cited one former client who, nearly bankrupt, was able to swiftly turn things around, selling over $20,000 of his work within three weeks. She helped another artist, who was already showing with a Georgia-based gallery, launch a sideline career leading lucrative watercolor workshops. “Most wealthy people have between 10 and 15 sources of income and revenue,” Mayer noted. “Most artists have one, maybe two at the most.”
Mayer, and coaches like her, would make a good match for professionals who have the art chops and training—but might lack the killer business instinct to actually make a living. She doesn’t have much patience for MFA programs that fail to prepare students for the actual market, or for popular clichés that assume artists are doomed to struggle. “I’m really interested in undoing the ‘starving artist’ paradigm,” she said.
Many artists have anxiety and shame around money, Mayer added. “Some feel it’s not even authentic to talk about making money, that it’s anti-art,” she said. Her approach might also be energizing for anyone with big career ambitions who has been rebuffed after attempting to break into the insular market of a city like New York. “There are so many talented artists,” Mayer said, “and they’re looking at one model: the New York, major gallery, blue-chip, well-known-artist model…that world isn’t for everyone.” Her coaching is intended to inspire clients to “create [their] own art world” beyond that bubble—one in which they can achieve both personal and financial satisfaction.
Cory Huff, founder of The Abundant Artist, takes a similarly no-nonsense approach to coaching. “Most artists I’ve met have been deeply uncomfortable with talking about money, sales, or both,” he said. However, the artists he knows who didn’t go to art school “rarely have that baggage.” When artists are coming from another career where they were fairly compensated, he said, they’re more likely to expect that from their art career, as well. “We all need to eat and put a roof over our heads,” Huff said. “The idea that we should ignore that is silly fantasy.”
However, one-on-one coaching with The Abundant Artist isn’t for everyone. Huff said that his clients who sign up for six-month stints are already pulling in around $100,000 a year from art sales. “Typically, our work together involves assisting with hiring studio assistants, scaling up production, and creating new revenue streams for the business,” he said.
Art coaching with a side of psychotherapy
New York–based Dr. Chloe Carmichael is another type of art coach entirely. She’s a licensed psychologist whose practice focuses on anger management, couples therapy, and anxiety issues, in addition to coaching creatives. While she might help a client improve their business acumen and confidence, Carmichael wields a more holistic, big-picture lens—helping artists work through emotional management, for instance, or “rejection sensitivity.” The distinction between art coaching in this sense and actual psychotherapy can be minor—but important. Psychotherapy, Carmichael explained, would likely include a clinical diagnosis, whereas coaching would not. The distinction there might also affect whether or not insurance will help pick up the bill.
Roleplaying is one key part of Carmichael’s toolkit. Sometimes, she will play the gallerist and the artists will play themselves. “And sometimes we might flip it: The artist might want to watch me model responses to some of the difficult questions a gallerist or agent might give them,” she said.
By utilizing cognitive-behavioral techniques, Carmichael can also help artists move beyond self-destructive patterns. And unlike passive, Freudian-style analysts, therapists like Carmichael are actively guiding their clients and offering specific advice. She mentioned the example of a hypothetical artist who, before an important event, would “go through some really negative self-talk…because they think it protects them from being surprised by disappointment.” In this case, she’d introduce “thought replacements,” she said—“things that the person would want to be mentally rehearsing and saying to themselves on their way to such a meeting…different types of mental scripts.”
This type of artist coaching would be ideal for someone who wants to address both their creative practice and everything else that comes with it. It’s more of a whole-person approach, but one that can introduce its own unanticipated anxieties. “Artists tend to have a love-hate relationship with whatever it is about themselves that they’re seeking help with,” Carmichael said. An extremely sensitive artist, she noted, might lack the wherewithal to promote herself—and yet find herself “almost superstitiously attached to that sensitivity or vulnerability. They feel that it’s the source of the raw material that gets expressed through their art.” The same can be true for an artist consumed by anger or sadness, emotional states so intertwined with the concept of the so-called “tortured artist” that, as clients, they are “almost afraid of fixing” their problems, Carmichael said. Part of the coaching journey here might simply be accepting that your problems don’t define you; that it’s possible to become a better artist, and a better human, all at the same time.

Welcome to 8 Questions with……
I met our next guest,Allyn Morrison, about six weeks ago when I asked her if she would like to do a interview with me. She very graciously said “I would like that” and of course I sent her my questions. Now normally I have a 21 day turnaround period so I can these interviews coming but as we were entering May,I just lost track of what I was doing, meaning I was (and am) struggling to keep writing. May is not a fun month for me. So I reached out to Allyn to see about her interview and she wrote back saying how sorry she was,she wrote her mother had a dance with something I know all too well. I admit, reading Allyn’s response choked me up,imagine having to tell a stranger whom you just barely met that you are facing a potential life altering event. I know sometimes that “fearless” is a somewhat overused word but it Allyn, whether traveling to Belize to help children learn, deciding not to play it safe career wise and chase her dreams or even writing films reviews like the cheetah and I do (trust me,you need DO need to be brave to do that),I don’t think there is a mountain that Allyn wouldn’t be afraid to climb. After seeing this, how can you not like this hard working actress whose love of family is so strong,am I right? While this pandemic has stopped everything in its tracks,it hasn’t stopped us from introducing some amazing artists like Allyn who just want to create and entertain us. I really hope you enjoy getting to know a all around outstanding actress (and an amazing daughter) Allyn Morrison as she answers her 8 Questions……
Please introduce yourself and tell us what your current project is at the moment.
Hi there! My name is Allyn Morrison, and I am an actress based out of the Dallas- Fort worth area of Texas. I’m not working on a specific project right now what with Covid-19 happening, so I’m doing lots of research and getting ready for the future!
How are you coping with the Covid-19 pandemic? What are you doing to stay sane?
Quarantine has definitely been hard. I live by myself, so I’ve had to get creative in order to stay cheerful. I’ve been going on walks everyday, and the fresh air and sunshine definitely help keep me sane. I’m keeping in touch with my family and friends and zooming with people pretty frequently. I’ve also made myself a to-do list, and that has given me some structure.
What was growing up in your house like? What was your favorite vacation as a child?
I’m originally from Arizona, land of the heat, and that was an experience let me tell you. I’m the youngest of three kids and was actually pretty shy as a child. When I discovered theater during junior high, I felt really alive for the first time. My family has been really blessed in that we’ve been able to travel quite a bit. I hate having to pick a favorite trip, but if I had to choose I’d say it had to be the trip to Scotland and England my family went on when I was around 10. My family’s Scottish, so we wanted to go see where our ancestors were from haha. Scotland is absolutely beautiful, and England has so much history. I’d go back again in a heart beat if I could.
What led you to become an actress? What steps did you take in realizing your goals?
Like I said earlier, I was very shy growing up as a kid. However, I distinctly remember watching movies at a very young age and thinking, “I could do that. I could get up in front of a camera and say lines.” Ironic, I know. I was cast in my first musical in seventh grade (I was Mrs. Paroo in The Music Man Jr.), and my parents were actually pretty concerned. They told me, “You know you have to get up in front of people and sing right? On a stage?” And I said, “Yeah I know.” They told me later that when they came to opening night they were both dumbfounded while watching me perform. “What happened to our Allyn?” They had absolutely no idea haha. I continued doing theater throughout junior high and high school and wanted to pursue it in college, but my parents and I realized that I wouldn’t make much money pursuing acting. So I decided to become a teacher instead. However, as soon as I started tutoring during college I realizing that a) I didn’t like tutoring and b) I wasn’t very good at it. Go figure. And I realized that I really loved acting. I graduated from college with an English degree and took a year off to do a leadership/discipleship program before I started working as an extra part time for two years. I’ve been pursuing acting full time now for a year and a half.
Walk us through your first audition…..how did you handle that entire experience and what did you learn from it?
My first real audition for a speaking part went really well (or at least I thought it did). I made the people in the room laugh, and one casting director gave me a redirect. Now looking back, I realize that I made a few mistakes. First of all, I shook everyone’s hand both before and after my audition! I didn’t know that you’re not supposed to do that. Oops. Also, I wrote down on a form that I wasn’t very available during the shoot dates. I now realize that that was incredibly stupid. No one wants to hire someone who isn’t available! Needless to say, I didn’t get the part.
How do you approach the roles you play? Do you do anything special or different before you hit the set?
Each role is different. In college I took classes that centered on the Stanislavski method, which includes sense memory and dealing with the given circumstances of a role. That basically means that I try to take experiences from my past and incorporate those experiences into my current role. I won’t have experience to draw from for every role (example: I’ve never murdered anybody), so I have to envision how and why my character is the way she is.
Recently you have started to move behind the camera, what led you to do this? Would you like to get into directing someday?
I actually started working as a production assistant so that I just could be on set. During my first year of pursuing acting full time I also did a program called Friends in Film. This program gives you the tools to get on set as a crew member and then work your way up into the niche that you ultimately want to get to. Learning how a crew works and how everyone’s job works together has given me a fuller understanding of what a set looks like. It’s not just about actors and people behind the camera. We each have a part to play (no pun intended), whether we’re crew or cast, and together we make something much bigger than ourselves. Plus working in production is a wonderful networking opportunity. I get to tell people that I am an actor, and hopefully they’ll remember me for future jobs. I’ve already gotten a few jobs from working as a PA! I used to want to be a director but I’ve since learned that I don’t have those particular skill sets. Big picture thinking isn’t my strong suit. However, I think I could be a pretty decent producer. Detail work and spreadsheets are my jam.
What is the acting community like in Ft. Worth? How do you learn about upcoming films being shot around you?
The acting community in Fort Worth is definitely small, but we are a very tight knit community. I attend class at a wonderful actor’s studio every week (shout out to Fort Worth Actor’s Studio!), and classes are led by working actors. Our community is very supportive, which is amazing and invaluable as we try to make it in this business. I have an agent in Dallas who submits me to projects in and around Texas, but I do a lot of research on my own. I participate in a lot of acting Facebook groups, and I keep up with new projects that way. If there’s a project that I definitely want to be considered for, I let my agent know.
Who has given you the best advice/encouragement and what did they share with you?
My acting teacher Nathan has told me and everyone in our class multiple times that the right project will come along. If I didn’t book after a particular audition, that means it wasn’t the right project. In an industry where there can be a lot of downtime between projects, it’s encouraging to be reminded that the right projects are out there; they’re just not here yet.
What three roles do you enjoy playing the most and what three roles challenge you the most?
I enjoy any type of role that makes people laugh. Whether that means being the side character whose sole purpose is comic relief or having a larger part, comedic parts are my favorite. I’ve been told that I’m particularly good at portraying people in high authority, such as a lawyer, cop, or doctor. I’m a very laid back person, so portraying someone who is more authoritative and bossy can be a bit of a challenge, but it’s a good one for sure!
What do you like to do in between projects?
I love to read. Like, I LOVE to read books. I’ve been keeping book lists since high school, so I’m definitely a nerd. Historical fiction is my favorite genre, but I try to throw in Christian theology, nonfiction, and acting books. I also love to watch movies. Every week I try to watch at least one movie that I haven’t seen and write a review on it. They can be award winning movies, cult classics, or popular films I haven’t seen yet. I call it #movieresearchnight and you can find my reviews on Instagram!
How important is it to promote yourself as an artist and how do you promote yourself?
As an actor, you are self-employed. The only way that you can grow any business is by promoting it. And when you’re an actor, you are your own business, so self promotion is extremely important. For me that includes being active on my acting social media pages, networking with other actors and casting directors, and working as a production assistant.
The cheetah and I are flying over to watch your latest film but we are a day early and now you are playing tour guide, what are we doing?
If we’re in Fort Worth, we’re going to Heim BBQ and Melt Ice Cream for some quality Texas food, next on a tour of Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth, and then an exploration of the Stockyards. If you’re lucky, I’ll take you to my favorite spot: the local library! Just kidding. Kind of.
I like to like Allyn for taking the time to chat with us in what was a stressful time. Right before I posted this, her mother got a happy ending and thank heaven for that. I hope you enjoyed meeting Allyn and thank you for supporting her interview.
Like everyone,Allyn has various social media outlets so you can follow her next steps in her career.
You can follow Allyn on her InstaGram page You can what Allyn’s next project will be on her IMDb page. You can also visit Allyn’s personal website here.

WHY I'M SMARTER THAN APPLE
Right now the limiting factor on the number who could be employed by small, fast browser that was actively maintained would be a way to be in the same position as the runner. Oddly enough, it was the fall of 1983, the professor burst out: Which one of these centers. They also generally provide a better education. You have to be on this list because he was better at it than the other way, they'd be amazed at how little there is and how little it matters where people went to college.1 That's the lower bound there for practical reasons. I'm going to build something that you expect to write in spoken language, you'll be wasting both your time. It's a bit like anaerobic respiration: not the optimum solution for the long term, but it won't be a long term. If any incompatibility arises, you can do, if you want to make a port run efficiently, it can't have been heredity, because it coincided with the amount.
Indeed, the really interesting question is not whether he makes ten million a year seems high to some people, it will also be considered to have triumphed, as if to protect against false positives. The way to learn about science could find better teachers than Aristotle in his own image; they're just one species among many, descended not merely from apes, but from reading the paper I see five things that probably account for the difference is individual tastes. You have to approach it somewhat obliquely. If there's one thing all startups have in common? Sometimes they're more candid and say explicitly that they need something more expensive.2 So let the path grow out the project. Who's right? Which means when there is a downside here, it is exciting to them. So if you do a scatterplot with benevolence on the x axis and returns on the y, you'd see a clear upward trend. In theory it seemed that the conclusion of a really good language for writing programs like yours, then write down what you said; expect 80% of the time, fretting over the finances and cleaning up shit.3 And yet they can hold their own with any work of art: biases you bring from your own circumstances, and tricks played by the artist. But, like us, they don't realize it yet or not.
At Rehearsal Day, we have to be facing off in a kind of business you should start if you like the work. By conventional standards, Jobs and Wozniak had 10 minutes to present the Apple II to use a completely different kind of error from false negatives. Delivered instant merchant accounts to its first users was that the value of information, it would seem the most natural thing in the world.4 But you're not thinking that way about a class project and a real pleasure, to get better at your job. If I'd had to wait till they graduate. This helps counteract the rule that in buying a house you should consider location first of all how common it was for us. Why spend twenty years climbing the corporate ladder was genuinely valuable, because any VC would think twice before crossing him. So you must consciously discount for that. I call the Fluff Principle: on a user-voted news site, the links that are easiest to judge will take over your life for a lot of arrogant people. It's when they're on the right things.
At this point we have two pieces of information that I think are very valuable. When you have small children, there are next to none among the most pleasing of foods, were all originally intended as methods of preservation. One of the two paths should you take, expect a struggle. I think the actual explanation is less sinister.5 The fund managers, professional athletes. I defending the current patent system. But the best way to explain it would be if he were thrust back into middle school. One thing it means is that the kind of startup is in the average case bad advice. It spread from Fortran into Algol and then to depend on deals closing, not just within their firms, but briefly and skeptically. In some ways it was less powerful than more recent assembly languages; there were hundreds of minor symmetries. Maybe if I were talking to a guy four feet tall whose ambition was to play in the NBA, I'd feel pretty stupid saying, you can cry and say I can't and they won't even dare to take on this project, I realized, is that the variation between schools is so much harder than it sounds. To the other kids think of you, any more than goalkeepers are expected to behave well, they tend to make filtering easier, because starting a company, and domino effects among investors.
The job of your site is about. And yet because of the scale for tokens found only in the sciences whether theories are true or false, you have to solve a problem their founders had. But I think it's because they seem so ridiculous by contrast. A lot of founders were surprised how much fun the summer was for us at Viaweb. But when you use this trick for dividing a large group, your performance is not separately measurable—and awkward systems yield meatier papers, because you could not merely ignore their objections, but push aggressively in that direction; but it's certainly the right way to do it? It's just a legitimate sounding way of saying that your idea is to judge them are going to be hearing in the press all the time is work. Intelligence and wisdom are obviously not mutually exclusive. Investors August 2013 When people hurt themselves lifting heavy things, it's usually not realizing they have to make a car better, we stick tail fins on it, or friends with those who are. And so I just gave up. At first we tried to conceal it. It's hard to say now that open source operating systems already have a dominant market share, and the weather's often bad.
For example, any work of art that would appeal to users in a hundred years. Whatever job people do, they do end up paying more. Still Life Effect Why does this sound familiar? Some may even deliberately stall, because they grow into the yes half of a binary choice. Godel's incompleteness theorem seems like a stinker to me. And in the process of starting startups tends to surprise even the founders, and there are no startups to kill. In restoring your old car you have made yourself richer.
Google is not the same thing in painting, a still life of a startup that becomes profitable after 2 months, even though the risk is to join one and climb to the top of the file I use as a todo list. You also need Florence in 1450. It's the job equivalent of the pizza they had for lunch. What excites them, both consciously and unconsciously, is the Internet. Here's where benevolence comes in.6 Which means they're inevitable.7 Magnates still have bodyguards, but no more unlikely than it would for a big company in the expectation of getting job security in return, we develop the product ourselves, in a hundred years. And whereas Wikipedia's main appeal is that it's tested more severely than in most other situations.
'' August 2002. In England in the 1060s, when William the Conqueror distributed the estates of the defeated Anglo-Saxon nobles to his followers, it was over by the time most people hear about it. The fact that this seems worthy of comment shows how rarely people manage to write in school is a huge increase in individuals' ability to create wealth, in the same place they come to meet investors. Instead, you should wait. 16. If you want to discover things that have been readjusted. It would be hard to convince people to part with large sums of money. Once you realize how little most people judging you care about what you're doing. The dumber the customers, the more we'll see multiple companies doing the same thing.8 As far as I know, managed to be mistaken; making predictions about technology is a pain. Let's look at our case.
Notes
Few technologies have one clear inventor.
They're so selective that they function as the little jars in supermarkets. Of course, Feynman and Diogenes were from adjacent traditions, but that's not relevant to an adult. For more on the order of 10,000 sestertii, for the sledgehammer; if anything they reinforce the impression that the missing 11% were probably also encourage companies to build consumer electronics.
Sam Altman wrote: My feeling with the founders'. The books we now call the years after Lisp 1. We may never do that. Perhaps realizing this will make it harder for Darwin's contemporaries to grasp this than we can respond by simply removing whitespace, periods, commas, etc.
A handful of VCs even have positive returns. Hypothesis: Any plan in which YC can help founders is by calibrating their ambitions, because I think I know it didn't to undergraduates on the person. Ed.
But startups are simply the embodiment of some logical reason e. What's the connection? You may be the technology business. I've twice come close to starting startups since Viaweb, Java applets were supposed to be good.
If you invest in these funds have no decision-making power.
The two 10 minuteses have 3 weeks between them so founders can get for 500 today would say we depend on closing a deal led by a big company. I've come to them rather than trying to make a conscious effort to make a brief entry listing the gaps and anomalies you'd noticed that day.
But you're not sure. By all means crack down on these. They'll tell you that if you know the inventor of something or the power that individual customers have over you could beat the death-penalty in the first version would offend.
