The lives of a gay couple who lived in a Dorset village for nearly six decades have been turned into an exhibition. Norman Notley (1890–1980) and David Brynley (1902–1981) moved to Corfe Castle in 1923 and lived openly as a couple, despite homosexuality being illegal at the time. The two men were successful musicians who sang together in Britain and the United States and they had many friends in the art world. Photographs and diaries on display at Dorset Museum reveal they lived peacefully with the local community for 57 years until their deaths.

In 1973, local people organised an event for the couple to celebrate their 50 years in the village. Museum director Claire Dixon said: "They were known as 'the boys' quite affectionately by the community. "They didn't throw the party, the community threw it for them. "When lots of people were having to hide the fact that they were gay, or think about their behaviour in public space, it seems that they were able to live quite a peaceful life in the village." The couple shared a passion for creating art as well as collecting and Notley bequeathed his collection of paintings to Dorset Museum. Despite being able to live authentically, the only image in the collection of them being affectionate to one another is a photo of Brynley kissing Notley on the cheek.

Notley died in 1980, aged 90, and Brynley a year later, aged 81. Maisie Ball, an archaeology student at Bournemouth University, began digitising the couple's photographs and transcribing their journals and letters as part of a work placement at the museum. She said: "Being able to share their story has been so important as there are not many collections like this that give a glimpse into the lives of LGBTQ+ people from this time period. "The photographs that have stuck with me the most are the ones with their many dogs and the rare few of Norman on his own, where you get to see a glimpse of his personality." The display, curated by Ms Ball, with advice from Prof Jana Funke of the University of Exeter, is on display throughout February to coincide with LGBT+ History Month. (Full article)

This is so true, honestly. Most medic nin in the show are women. Even Hinata was made to use healing jutsu once in a filler. The only male medic I can remember is Kabuto. Which is sad because I genuinely believe both Neji and Kankuro would've made for great medics with their precise chakra control.
Most characters who commit suicide are also male. It is usually done as some sort of heroic sacrifice for the village or a loved one. The only two exceptions to the rule: are Rin jumping in front of Kakashi's chidori and Chiyo giving up her life for Gaara's. I believe the reason it is done that way is because offing yourself in most Shonen manga is usually considered an act of 'heroism'. A heroic sacrifice, if you will. To most authors, only male characters are allowed to make these heroic sacrifices because they don't believe their female characters to be actually strong enough to do it. Usually, if a female character offs herself, she's either: 1- a woman with masculine traits. So, she refuses all notions of femininity cause that'd make her 'weak'. Or 2- if a feminine girl does it, it's rarely considered a 'heroic sacrifice'. Mostly, she does it to save a male character she has feelings for or to give development to a male character. Rarely for the greater good. That's why I can kinda appreciate Rin's sacrifice, because in her case, she not only did it willingly, it was also for the greater good, not just to save Kakashi's or Obito's lives at the cost of her own.
Romantic/sexual attraction is a similar case cause the only two girls ever shown to feel sexual attraction of any kind are Sakura and Karin, and they're hated a lot for it. The guys all get to show it more openly: using sexy jutsu, getting nosebleeds, and reading porn.
Emotional vulnerability is a weird one, cause if you were to ask me, who's the most emotionally vulnerable character in the series, I'd say Naruto. I don't think that's a trait really associated with women in Naruto? Like, I can't remember them really crying any more than the guys. Naruto takes the cake for team 7. Lee, obviously for team Gai. I'd go as far as to say that Tenten is the least emotionally vulnerable member of her team. I'd actually say both Chouji and Shikamaru are more emotionally vulnerable than Ino. Her whole thing is that she gets in people's heads to control them, so I'd imagine she'd have better control of her emotions as a result. Kiba, definitely for team 8. Yeah, even more than Hinata, who's very quiet, but she also rarely brings up her emotions. Outside of that one time, she tried to fight Pain for Naruto. Kankuro, also I'd say, is the most emotionally vulnerable of the sand sibs. Looking at it, it almost feels like a male trait. It's just more associated with girls because they're a lot more likely to develop crushes and make these crushes a core trait or part of their characters. When male characters do it (be emotionally vulnerable), it is presented as heroic, selfless, and 'for a good reason that's not a crush'.
Being a bad person. Now judging this one is hard because the Naruto world has very different standards for what a bad person is. Like, for example, under irl standards, many people would agree that Sakura is kind of a bad person. But the series really never treats her as such. The label 'bad person' is solely reserved for true villains who've tried to destroy the world/village and kill innocents, and many of them are forgiven for it, such as Gaara and Nagato. Which yeah, going by that definition, most people considered 'bad' by Naruto standards are also men. Women are either good people or neutral. Like, they show some villainous traits but are still considered good, such as: Sakura, Mei Terumi, the Mizukage (won't forget her trying to hit on Sasuke in the Kage summit arc) and Karin who's also not really treated like a villain by the main characters.
Haircuts. Yeah, the only people to get haircuts or care about their hair are girls. Mainly Sakura, Ino, and does Kushina count? Cause she was bullied for her red hair, so she did technically have a conflict regarding it, that was resolved by Minato saving her, turning her hair into some kind of 'red thread of fate/love". Forgot how it was called, but you know the red thread used to represent the bond and union between two lovers. Guys, really........ don't care about their hair. With the exception of Gai, who makes sure to style it a certain way to make it look good for the style he's going for, and Gai already isn't presented as the most masculine of men, despite him having a very masculine physique/ideal body type most men want. Like, when compared to Kakashi. It's even more evident in the parody show about Rock-Lee and his team, where I've seen one scene of Kashi and Gai getting married? Gai was the one playing the bride's role.
If I had to add something else, it would be leadership positions and high-ranking spots, in addition to being a single parent. Most characters in leadership positions are male. Tsunade is the only female Hokage we've had, and she also feels very masculine in her characterization (the way she doesn't really have romance problems that last). She had one very small arc, where she was supposedly traumatized by her boyfriend's death, which gave her fear of blood? But she got over that very quickly. Terumi is the only woman Mizukage, Kurotsuchi, the only Tsuchikage, and both Kumo and Suna have yet to have a female leader. The same goes for clan leaders/heads. Tsume, Kiba's mom, is the only woman I can think of. In the Boruto era, we can count Ino for the Yamanaka clan and Hanabi, Hinata's younger sister, for the Hyuga (in my head, their dad is dead, and Hanabi has taken over the clan). Same goes for the Jounin position. From the og era, Kurenai was the only one, and by the end of the series, the only other two Jounin girls we had were Temari and Sakura. Even though I strongly believe Tenten at least deserved to be a Tokubetsu Jounin.
For single parents, the ones we see in the show are all single moms. Mainly: Sakura in Boruto, cause Sasuke's always gone. And the ones almost no one talks about: Shikamaru's and Ino's moms, after their husbands: Shikaku and Inoichi died in the war arc. There's also Kiba's mom because Kiba himself has a line where he says his mom made his dad run away, or smth? Absolutely wild. The only single fathers I can think of rn off the top of my head, are: Rasa, the sand sibs' dad, and Hiashi, Hinata's dad. It's very implied that Hinata and Hanabi don't have a mom cause we never see her. And yeah, these two are horrible people. Funny how that works. The moms are single, cause their husbands are either dead in a heroic sacrifice (the Nara and Yamanaka ladies) or don't love them in the first place (Sakura). But for the single dads, they are that way because either they killed their wife (Rasa), or the author was too lazy to design her (Hiashi). If it's true that Hinata's mom ever had any appearances, pls just tell me, cause I have no idea.
things in naruto that are gendered:
being a mednin
killing yourself
romantic/sexual attraction
emotional vulnerablity
being a bad person (by naruto standards)
haircuts
probably some other shit too idk i'm not an expert

Idgaf about Carrie Underwood
Nothing could've prepared me for The Village People choosing to perform for Trump and claiming there's nothing gay about Y.M.C.A.; they literally banned him from using their music before & claiming they don't make gay bangers is EXTREME US music history erasure
I know Republicans been erasing US history as far back as the Daughters of Confederacy, but Y.M.C.A. is explicitly a time capsule of summarizing when gay US men were cruising at YMCAs & the LGBTQ+ disco scene
Like imagine Chappel Roan saying Pink Pony Club isn't about The Abbey 40yrs later, wtf?!?
Carrie Underwood is just trying to revive her dead career with a $1 necromancer move and failing miserably, but full on US culture, disco, and LGBTQ+ histories are intentionally being altered in real time & it's horrifying
I'm genuinely flabbergasted. Maybe it's because I'm more aware about LGBTQ+ history in general than most around my age but how can elders- born from WW2 witnesses and survived multiple epidemics & pandemics, learn nothing?
Money & deals with fascists are temporary but guarantee your death in all outcomes

What if Jonathan’s letters to Mina actually sent and Dracula didn’t burn them?
What if she believed those letters but Lucy didn’t, and so Lucy sent Seward to visit Jonathan in Dracula’s Castle to test his level of insanity?
What if Seward fell in love with one of the Vampyresses in the castle?
So anyway I had the strangest dream last night-

Highlights from day one of “totk but I keep track of the days, don’t use fast travel, make Link sleep semi consistently, and write an in-character journal” (aka literally the weirdest thing I’ve done ever)
Day 5: “I got myself hopelessly lost climbing the mountain”
Day 9: “Purah Claims that Rauru shares his name with the first king of Hyrule. Combining that with the murals and Zelda’s own knowledge of her family history… I can’t let her know I found her ancestor attractive! She’ll never let me live it down!”
Day 11: “there was a blood moon last night, but that isn’t why I almost died. Purah launched me into the damn sky!”
Day 11 again: “from there I’ll head to Hebra, I want to check on Dad Teba and Tulin.”
Day 12: “going to take Cocoa (horse) toward Hebra and have her wait while I help Josha and Robbie investigate a hole in the ground
Day 14: when they called it a chasm they weren’t kidding!
Day 15: “I can’t believe it! That old coot left me down here!”
Day 16: “still down here.”
Day 18: “I hate to say it but Rauru is even more handsome alive.”
Day 20: “what was that. WHAT WAS THAT? It came from the floor it was so fast I need to go home. I want my dad.”
Day 21: we’re resting at Tabantha Bridge Stable until it clears. More delays sure, but a chance to catch up with Beedle! I found a rugged rhino beetle and I’ve been waiting to give it to him. He was so excited! He always insists on paying me back but the look on his face is payment enough. I hope he never reads this, I’d die of embarrassment.”
Day 22 “~sigh… not another brainless boy! I already have so many and I can barely take care of the ones I already have!”
Day 23: “it’s awful. At least Dad’s still here.”
