Well, we finally have the Yellowjackets reunion but I must admit it’s a bit anticlimactic with how many reunion teasers we’ve seen. (but I guess they just wanted to give us a diversion for everything else that happened in the episode).
So... I must now request a Jeff reuniting with the Yellowjackets.
Tumblr media
I didn’t know I needed it until this scene.

Is Jeff not guarunteed to return??? They kinda silently recasted Gen, I doubt they’d do that for Jeff unless they explicitly said it was Jeff (bc he’s kinda a big deal…) older coach Ben… no… that’s… a WHOLE WHITE man. cabin guy recast is possible, we haven’t heard anything from the bonus episode in like forever BUT I don’t know/think Melanie Lynskey’s husband had any scheduling conflicts that would cause him to not be cabin guy anymore. Not to mention Sophie Nelisse saying they had to had filmed it, she and the teen cast weren’t involved….
My best guess though is an addition to the Adult Cast. Someone said he played a cop like role or a villain in Community or something..? We did get BTS of Yellowjackets and this FBI looking truck so he could be an FBI agent
my initial thoughts for the guy are probably replacement jeff, an older coach ben (although I feel like he looks a bit young for that) or yet another cabin guy recast
Idk though??

it’s the way teen wolf fans are so racist too because they'll be swearing Kira is a boring character that doesn’t deserve to be paid as a lead meanwhile season 3 is the best season of the show thanks in part to Kira’s background. They’ll be trying so hard to justify the way Arden has been treated but why is Shelley even getting the same salary as everyone else, Crystal Reed CHOOSE to leave the show and it’s getting more money than Arden (who got FIRED) and character is still alive.
the teen wolf fandom has been racist. the amount of anonymous asks I’ve been getting from people defending jeff davis and justifying arden's salary is insane. worms for brains.
as you said, people been acting as if kira was just scott's love interest when it was her background the reason season 3b exists. it was because of her kitsune nature that nogitsune was born, and the whole second half of the season revolves around japanese mythology, that could only be introduced because of her. there's a whole episode about kira's mother creating the nogitsune (played beautifully by arden) and the best fight sequences of the show have been done by her, people be saying anything to justify that mistreatment.
kira’s been a lead since season 4, added to the opening titles. i love malia but there’s not reason shelley should’ve been offered more than arden and neither does crystal reed because as you said she chose to leave the show and her character is dead so the fact she’s getting preferencial treatment speaks volumes. if anything, all of them should be getting paid the same as female leads (which is what i assume arden was expecting). you can dislike kira and all but let’s not act like her getting offered half a salary for a lead role isn’t about racism in the industry, actors of color have been fighting for equal pay as their white counterparts for years and its sad to see nothing has changed. the fact they would rather recast kira offering minimum wage instated of paying arden the same as the others is horrifying. teen wolf has treated most of their characters of color terrible throughout the show and the fans have allow it for so long.

did u see the new teen wolf trailer and if yes how we ferling
no beloved and I truly do not intend on witnessing any tidbit or trailer about that circus of a movie prior to my viewing experience, I'm like one of those parents that don't want to know the gender of their babies until it's born except this time the "baby" is an audiovisual journey through whatever borderline lovecraftian heterosexually-gay machinations Jeff Davis' mind can conjure up to push his and Tyler Posey's combined standing bank balance above $33, and the "gender" is whether or not they're still making Tyler Hoechlin gallop on all fours at his prehistoric age. However comma I did hear buffy of the vampire slaying persuasion is in it and personally I hope it's because Stiles has been recast as her. How are the rest of you feeling though

Do you think Posey and Jeff asked Arden and Meagan to be in their Teen Wolf movie or nah?
Hmm. Putting aside the fact that there is a precisely none percent chance that I, someone not affiliated with the Teen Wolf movie in any way, could possibly answer that question, or even attempt a reasonable guess, that's... not even remotely how television works.
Let's say that you're an actor. You want to be on a television show. Too bad. No, seriously, that's how much what show you want to be on matters, unless you're so famous no one would ever say no to you. If you're Morgan Freeman, you can just call up the creator and say "I want to be on your TV show" and it'll probably happen, but if you're anyone else, you just gaze wistfully.
But let's say you're a relatively unknown actor, you've been in a few things here and there, no breakout roles. Your agent calls you out of the blue and says they found you an audition. You go to the audition, you do your best. Good chance you're not cast, so you have 12 other auditions lined up just in case. Let's say you get a callback. You still go to your other auditions, because a callback is just a "maybe". You go to the second audition. Either you're not cast, or you're cast. You don't pick your role. In fact, you may not even have auditioned for the role you were cast in. Sometimes auditions don't even have lines from the thing they're casting, just well-known scripts. So now you have a role on a television show, congrats. Your agent's blood pressure improves. You work hard to memorize lines, get into character, film a gazillion takes, do the necessary whatnots and public appearances. Boom! You're on TV!
Congrats for your role. Now, the creator decides to make another season. Maybe that was always the plan, and you signed a contract for more than one season, or maybe your contract has to be renewed every season, or maybe it's a secret surprise season no one knew they were getting. If you don't already have a contract for that season, your agent's blood pressure is sky-high again while they play king of the hill with someone else's agent. Let's say you're not recast. Why not? Probably because the pay's not enough or you have a better role somewhere else already. But let's say you are recast. You sign a new contract, your agent pats themself on the back, you do the whole thing again, and you're on TV.
When you sign the contract, there's a lot more than just an agreement to be on a show. You agree to a certain salary or wage, depending on your type of contract. Will you be on for just one season? A certain number? Indefinitely? Will you appear in every episode? Are you getting paid by the season or by the episode? Is there a certain number of episodes you have to be in? Are there special limitations on your contract? We all like to click the "agree to EULA" button and move on, but actors' agents have to actually read and understand the terms.
You will note that at no point in this process did you do anything about the role other than showing up to the audition and paying your agent well. You didn't talk to the co-stars, except maybe for a social visit, and you definitely didn't have a chat with just you and the show's creator. That guy's busy organizing an entire season. Your casting call wasn't public, and your role usually isn't announced to the public until the PR guys decide it's a good time to tell everyone who's gonna be on the show. That could be when filming starts, or it could be a week before the show starts airing, or it could be literally any other time. Sometimes there's not even an announcement, you just find out when you watch the show. Television isn't simple, is the point of all this.
Now let's get more specific. Here's how the confusing world of television applies to Teen Wolf.
Tyler Posey was the lead character in Teen Wolf (2011-2017). He was made producer about midway through, which is common when someone's a lead for a long time. "Producer" means that the actor gets paid more, they get a little more say in what happens to their character, and they get a better title when their name pops up on the little beginning credits thing that blocks the subtitles. If you're an actor/producer, you don't do any writing for the show, you don't get to make big decisions about the plot or the characters, and you don't get to make any decisions about other peoples' characters. Sometimes you get to direct an episode or two, that's fun. Still no decision-making power, other than camera angles and intonation.
Jeff Davis is the creator and head producer of Teen Wolf. He came up with the concept for the show, he wrote the pilot and a few other episodes, and he gets to decide how the show's going to go. He decides what characters will be there and what they'll do. He gets to direct some episodes (some shows will have a separate creator and director, some don't), he gets to veto ideas the writers come up with, and sometimes he'll write his own episodes. Usually on a show of that size, the creator only writes the first few episodes, and the rest is left to a team of writers that changes pretty often. Davis doesn't cast actors. The casting director, another person entirely, is the person in charge of getting their minions to find actors and hold auditions. Television is a network of people, and even the creator doesn't control everything.
Arden Cho and Meagan Tandy were actors on the show only, not producers. They auditioned, got roles, and acted for them, and that was it. Cho was cast in a recurring role, but was changed to a member of the main cast when fans really liked her character. Evidently, she had contracts for each season. It wasn't renewed for season 6, so her character was written off at the end of season 5, and she went and found other television roles. Tandy was cast in a more minor recurring role and never became a main cast member. Her contract wasn't renewed for season 6 either, so she went and got cast as a lead in DC's Batwoman (2019-present).
Now, as surprising as this may be to you, actors usually don't get attached to one particular role. Some actors notably hate their recurring lead roles (thanks for the entertainment, Robert Pattinson), most just don't care. When you're an actor, it's not about the characters, it's about doing something you like as a career. No actor wants to play the same role forever, that'd be boring. Actors also want to move up the ladder, getting bigger roles in more well-known franchises and making more money with each job, not less. There's not usually a reason to go back down the ladder, since it means less pay and less recognition.
Actors don't take jobs based on fans really wanting them to keep being in something. Fans don't get that much say in television, as is evidenced by the overwhelming opinion to write Scott off Teen Wolf and make it all about Stiles that only made a small splash in the actual plot. Turns out showrunners don't care what Tumblr thinks, who knew?
Now, from what I know, which is no more than anyone else with Google and some interest in television knows, Cho and Tandy are both busy with other roles right now. Cho has been cast as a lead in Netflix's upcoming series Partner Track, and Tandy has a recurring lead role in DC's Batwoman, where she plays a badass lesbian who fights crime and gets to kiss Ruby Rose sometimes.
The Teen Wolf movie is still in the works, and nothing is set in stone, but if I had a great role already, I don't think I'd take a hiatus to be in a movie based on a role I had for a few seasons several years ago. Why go down the ladder?
Now, here's where we reach an interesting point. I've been vaguely following news about the movie, which is currently set to air on Paramount+ sometime in 2022, and I recalled a Teen Vogue article I read about the movie. Here's a quote.
According to the official MTV synopsis for the Teen Wolf movie, a full moon is rising in Beacon Hills, and a “terrifying evil” rises along with it. “The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night,” the logline reads. “But only a werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.”
They're either coming up with another kitsune, bringing Kira back, or there won't be any kitsune characters at all and they're just being overly hopeful. Could be anything. Here's the other thing:
MTV reports that the original cast is currently “in talks” to join the upcoming film.
Hmm. Sounds like the agents are fighting this one out again. We really don't know what's going to come of that, because the public isn't invited to have an opinion on casting. The average person doesn't know jack shit about TV, anyways, so it's probably for the best. Maybe Cho will be recast, maybe not. If I had to make a guess, I'd say Tandy probably won't, since she's busy being awesome in a much better role.
See, there's a bit of a kerfuffle when you have a TV show and then you make a movie sequel. Usually it goes the other way, and everyone's seen the movie already or there's enough time in one episode to reintroduce everyone and then kick off the plot. A two hour or so movie sequel to a TV show, not so much. Either the movie will be a stand-alone, and it'll have to reintroduce every character in it so an audience who's never seen Teen Wolf (TV) knows what's going on, which will take a lot of time even with only the characters still standing in the finale, or it'll be a true sequel, and it'll have to come up with a good reason to bring back characters that had been written off before the finale. That's the thing about bringing characters back: it's a lot easier if you haven't sent them to the desert, London, or Peru. And MTV's synopsis says they're introducing new characters, too? I know I don't want to sit through an hour of introductions and then a two-hour movie.
TL;DR: You should have read the whole thing. If I could summarize everything in a paragraph, I would have. But, my dear anon, for whom reading seems often a challenge, I'll offer this. One, why are you asking me a question I wouldn't possibly know the answer to, and two, that's not how TV works. Good day.

not you but the teen wolf post you made about the film, the tweet you used it in calls arden the only poc regular which she isn’t and really washes over the fact that tyler posey isn’t white and that he was also treated poorly by jeff + the other writers.
they meant woc, as corrected in their later tweet. i also stress woc in the post. that's the original tweet that pointed out kira was being recast and that arden would have been there for the whole shoot but was only offered half pay, from an actress who received the casting call. so i'm not going to take it off the post as it's very important in calling out what happened with how arden was treated, anyone familiar with the show knows what was meant

WB is the worst when it comes to DC. It's no coindence that Constantine is leaving 'Legends of Tomorrow" in the wake of the upcoming HBO Max show. And this pandemic ruined a lot of plans. As you said "BL" wasn't meant to be in the Arrowverse put when it happened they were all gung-ho for it. They had plans for Jeff to visit Central City and for Anissa and Grave to chill in Gotham. But then the pandemic and whatever BTS drama that got "BL" canned. Like *something* happened. It got an early renewal in Jan then it was cancelled in Nov. And CW didn't even bother to have proper trailers for new episodes. Don't tell me somebody on the show didn't rub the network the wrong way to result in that level of pettiness
Yeah, WB isn't just the worst with DC, but really the worst with favoritism in my personal opinion
They tried so hard to make the DC streaming service a huge success but as soon as they saw it wasn't going to be they got rid of everything like it was on fire, HBO Max is the new golden child so they're cutting their own throats in other areas to make it succeed- IE: Theaters
My poor Suicide Squad 2 ;_; no I won't say "my THE Suicide Squad" it won't roll off the tongue it was a sacrificial lamb to the damn streaming service :(
I know it's an unpopular opinion to not be all over streaming but they're really clearly cutting way more than just corners in order to feed that specific beast and try to make it compete with Disney+, that's why they're starting to draw the string on the Arrowverse :/ The same thing happened, I think, with the DC streaming service though, when they saw that the biggest success of DC was the Arrowverse, they decided to pull their dying streaming service as well as the DCEU into it to pump the Arrowverse up more, now that the Arrowverse is starting to go under- with three shows being gone, Batwoman being in questionable territory, and the two biggest successes of the year being largely disjointed from it (Superman and Stargirl), I think they're going to try to scramble it like eggs :/ They're doing the same with the DCEU to a degree though, by having loosely connected stories that do more universe hopping and tone changes (IE: Joker coming out just months before Birds Of Prey and having been preceeded by Shazam!) I think since they're seeing more promise in that approach right now for the movies, they might be trying to do the same for TV- or they're just trying to let the Arrowverse die of neglect so they can pump up HBO Max like you said
Ofcourse now that WB has been bought by Discovery, we might get some big changes to this; Discovery already said they wanted to pour seven BILLION dollars into DC properties specifically in the first year alone, and I know the rumor is that they're only going to try to gloss up DC so that they can sell the assets to the highest bidders once their "probation" period ends but like.... seven billion is a hell of alot of gloss..... and if they can start pulling in more numbers like Joker, Superman & Lois, and The Suicide Squad (wich may have not been a huge hit at the box office but wich reportedly smashed the HBO Max numbers enough that WB is circling James Gunn like a starving shark), then I have a hard time believing they'd be wanting to get rid of it, especially when, let's face it, DC is easily the most well known and most marketable asset Discovery has ever had and probably ever will have purely because of Superman alone, you can't find a person anywhere who hasn't atleast heard of Superman, regardless of how much the film properties are hit-and-miss financially, I have a hard time believing anyone would just throw that kind of name power to the wolves....
But onto Black Lightning, I actually have a pretty strong theory about that one
I'm almost certain that China Anne McClain is why the show was canned
And do not get me wrong, I don't mean that in a snippy way, but China quit Black Lightning pretty urgently- to the point that she only wanted to do limited episodes for the final season
Backing up a moment here though, let me explain why I think this was the nail-in-the-coffin
Black Lightning was very quickly becoming centered around Lightning specifically
That doesn't mean to say that it wasn't still Jefferson's story and that Anissa wasn't still important, but Jennifer was getting set up to be The Powerhouse of the show, with the bulk of the drama probably surrounding her and the thought of her potentially taking on her father's mantel
It seemed like the idea of Black Lightning retiring or atleast putting on the suit a little less was starting to become a thing, and with Jefferson firmly accepting his daughters as part of the world of Metas at that point, that would have lead to Anissa and Jennifer taking much more of the spotlight than they had in the beginning- that's a natural progression of things, and although I actually prefer Anissa's storyline (it's just more my personal cup of tea), I will readily admit that Jennifer was the one who had the ability to carry an entire season's worth of story on her shoulders.... not so much Anissa, who has her wife (so romantic subplots are pretty toned down), her powers are developed and stable (nothing quite like the learning curves Jennifer was facing), she has a stable job and a stable superhero identity- two, in fact-, so no literal schoolyard drama or issues with "Am I in my father's shadow? Is this how the world sees me and do I want them to see me this way?" much like what Jennifer was starting to experience in the end of the show either
TLDR Anissa mostly had her shit together, wich is great for her, but it doesn't lend to being able to carry the most dramatic storylines like it does with Jennifer, who's still figuring out pretty much everything
I think Jennifer was already starting to take a very large amount of the story as of the last season and even starting to steal the spotlight before that, if they were to come back for more I feel like she would have been in a place of being much more obviously groomed to take on the main charector status wile Jefferson stepped back just a little bit to be more supportive to her journey instead of the other way around
And the show could still exist very much as Jefferson's story wile that story happened to center on Jennifer
.....Buuuuuuuuuuuuut that's where the problem comes in
China said before the show was cancelled that she was going to step down from playing Lightning because she wanted to focus on her faith more and be removed from anything that wasn't "in service to God", wich is totally fine for her, but it does put Black Lightning in a bit of a difficult position because the charector they were gearing up to make their breakout star was suddenly going to either have to pull a Winn and just... be.... gone.... or have to get recast
To be entirely honest, I'm not sure why they didn't stick with the recasting instead, I thought Laura Karuki did a fantastic job as Jennifer and the "Am I Jennifer or am I JJ?" story would have been a great thing to explore for an entire season, but if I had to guess, they maybe just didn't want to mess with it?
Black Lightning had good numbers but it wasn't in the top five or anything to my recollection, not since it's premiere season anyway, and it could have been a compound decision of "We weren't going to keep this up much longer anyway so let's just take this as a sign to wrap it up", although I think that the way the recast was done could have presented a stable option for them if they had decided to give it a go for a full season, although maybe that's just my opinion and they initially made the recast so that the people behind the curtain could see if Laura would work well enough as Jennifer and when they decided that the vibe wasn't right they went on ahead and pulled the plug rather than risk getting the same um... resistance.... than Batwoman met over their recasting choices
Although I could go on for days about why that situation is different (to be clear: I do like Ryan quite alot but I don't think the Batwoman situation was nearly as seamless as Black Lightning's in terms of recasts, but that's another story for another day)
TLDR I think if China had stayed aboard they would have gone on for atleast another season or two, but there are some shows where members of an ensemble cast are so essential that their leaving is too big of a blow to stay through
It's much like when Dylan O'Brien had to bow out of Teen Wolf for a little wile, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a fan who absolutely loved season six, and even before that people were having a hard time staying with a lack of Tyler Hoechlin, with some even stepping away when Crystal Reed left, even though- at both of those points- most of the core cast was still there and at no point did the titular main ever leave, I feel like Black Lightning's situation is very similar, people were just too invested in Jennifer

For the fanfic ask meme: 14, 15, and for number 4: "Androcles and the Lion"
Number 14:  What trope would you refuse to write even if you were paid to do it?
This was an extraordinarily difficult for me, because at first I tried to narrow it down to one trope, and in the end I couldn’t do it.  I also want to say that I’ve only ever written in the Teen Wolf fandom, so it is very heavily influenced by the fiction of that fandom.
1. Neglected Friend Seeks Redress.  To be specific, I would never write this trope from the point of view of the so-called “neglected” friend as a positive story.  I might write it as a horror story, but I would make it absolutely clear that the so-called “neglected” friend was the monster.
I get that it’s a powerful fantasy, the desire to hurt those people who did not treat you right, but ninety-nine times out of a hundred this particular trope is based on the idea of ‘friendship as transaction’ and I have had enough people in my own life who confused being in a relationship with ownership.  Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, these stories are written as if a friend exploring other aspects of their own life, such as having other friends or getting a romantic partner, is a betrayal.   Do friendships change and sometimes that hurts?  Sure.  But if you believe that your relationship gives you the right to determine the course of other people’s lives and that their primary focus must always be on you, you don’t need better friends, you need therapy.
My stance comes from two sources: my own learning as a child, where I grappled with an overactive imagination which suspected my friends of not actually liking me, and from the Teen Wolf fandom, where parts of the fandom treat Stiles as if he owns Scott, and that Scott having other priorities is the rankest betrayal.  How many times have you seen someone claim that Scott was a terrible friend in Season 1 because he spent too much time and effort staying alive and fighting Peter’s attempt to enslave him and not enough time seeing to Stiles’s emotional needs?  How many times have you seen an angry Fanon Stiles sulk and whine and plan to show Scott who’s boss because Scott’s attention shifted to Allison or Isaac or Kira or Liam, when Canon Scott still spent most of his time with Stiles?  How many times has Fanon Stiles arranged for Scott to be hurt, maimed, stripped of his power, and even killed for the unforgivable crime of not making Stiles the most important person in his life?
No.  There’s enough of that crap in the fandom already; I don’t need to add more to it.
2. In a similar vein, Suicide as Revenge, aka The 13-Reasons-Why Scenario has an extraordinarily slim chance of ever appearing from my pen.  Suicide is a terrible thing, a tragedy, and writing about it deserves the utmost sensitivity and competence, but I’ve never seen it handled with enough of either, even from the original novel or the television show.
I’m sure that a more talented writer could make this particular trope work, but too often to me the stories that use it come across as power fantasies and not  particularly healthy ones.  It feels like emotional blackmail -- you, as a reader, can’t even question the suicidal character’s motivations and ethics because of the necessary sensitivity when approaching the topic  Even saying, for example, that there must be two sides to the story, that the people accused in the letters or the video-tapes or the messages from beyond the grave have a right to defend themselves or even given the benefit of the doubt feels like callously dismissing the suicide itself.  The whole story feels like cheap manipulation, and writing about suicide should never feel that way.
Number 15: Describe one of your WIPs in the weirdest/most contrived way possible!
Colton Haynes walks into MTV studios at the beginning of the process of writing season 4.
Jeff: “Not that it’s not good to see you, but what are you doing here?”
Colton: “I’m here to talk about Jackson’s arc in Season 4 and 5.”
Jeff looks around, confused: “We wrote you out at the end of Season 2.”
Colton: “Yeah.  Super dumb.  You really botched cast changes, J.D.  You derailed narrative focus and twisted your plots into pretzels because you were afraid to recast me.  I’m here to fix it.  We’ll start with having Jackson and Stiles fall in love.”
Jeff: “Ohhhh-kay.  Uhm.  What else did you have in mind?”
Colton spreads his hands out: “I see Jackson returning from London as a catalyst for the characters actually confronting their trauma instead of burying it like no teenager ever did in the history of teenager-dom.”
Jeff: “Teenager-dom is not a word.”
Colton: “It is now.   We’re also going to explode amatonormativity, especially the idea that a character can only have one intense relationship at a time.  And --”
Jeff, sweating: “Yes?”
Colton: “We’re going to stop treating the audience with contempt.  Teenagers and young adults are absolutely capable of embracing nuance while still being entertained.  Okay?  Let’s get to work.”
This is for the series, Strike the Sun.
Number 4: What would this fiction be about, based on the title?
This story would be about that there are many reasons to save someone else’s life or to save someone from pain, and that they shouldn’t necessarily engender trust.  Empathy is a powerful emotion, and it can lead to friendship and trust and leadership, but it’s not an absolute given that it will end up that way.
Saving a person’s life is a good act, but the empathy and courage required to do it doesn’t prevent the character who saved others from indulging in immoral actions or even villainy and it certainly doesn’t justify their villainy.  Only principle can help determine if a person could be trusted or followed.  If the character doesn’t believe that a person deserves saving because they are a person, or that killing someone to achieve their goals is wrong even if  it someone the character dislikes, all the empathy and courage in the world won’t keep the character from being the bad guy.
In other words, the story will be about taking the concept of ‘shades-of-gray’ out behind the barn and shooting it like Old Yeller.

Idk if anyone would even be interested in reading this but as I was watching the show last night I kept writing down my reactions on my notes so here we are

Christmas with a Prince (2018)
Tumblr media
Choosing Christmas with a Prince is the equivalent of looking for your wife's Christmas gift at the dollar store: even if you're desperate, it's a bad idea. This holiday romance screws up nearly everything you could, which does occasionally make it unintentionally hilarious. Mostly, it'll make you wonder what else you could be doing with your time.
Handsome Prince Alexander Cavalieri (Nick Hounslow) has broken his leg in a skiing accident. To avoid drawing too much attention, his friend Jeff (Josh Dean) suggests he recover in the pediatric ward at the hospital where he and his half-sister Dr. Tasha Mason (Kaitlyn Leeb) work. She’s not too thrilled about the disturbance his highness brings to the children she so dearly cares about, particularly not during the Christmas season.
This movie feels like it was cranked out in a week, with a script that was written during the Monday's morning. The performances are terrible, with Kaitlyn Leeb sticking out as the worst of the bunch. She’s playing the main character. You know you’re in trouble immediately. What’s doubly hilarious about this casting is that her "brother" couldn’t look more unrelated to her if he was a Martian, so the script throws in a quick line about how they’re half-siblings. Were they so good together they couldn’t just recast?
Or maybe they kept Leeb because she had such good chemistry with her love interest? Definitely not. The film's romance is so badly executed it’s like it was an afterthought instead of the main feature. The conflict preventing them from getting together is trivial: Tasha and Alexander went to the same school (20+ years ago?). She was 16, asked him out, he was 18 and said no. Now she thinks he’s taken a bed in her department to spite and embarrass her. There’s no reason they shouldn't fall in each other's arms - assuming they’d want to - once this is cleared up. You keep expecting something like an arranged marriage, a psycho ex-girlfriend/boyfriend that will sabotage the union, or royal/professional obligations to come provide an obstacle. They’re nowhere in sight… until the last minute when these concepts are introduced and then disposed of so quickly you wonder why anyone even bothered.
Christmas with a Prince gets the main points wrong, which means the details stand no chance. Alexander (who is sold as spoiled and bratty, but really isn't) befriends a sick little kid (Nick Hounslow). This wannabe Tiny Tim is delightfully poorly written. He tells Alexander his mother works far away, that she can’t make it in time to support him during his life-saving surgery. Instead, he will listen to his favorite song on a loop at the same time as her so they can be close together. His favorite song? A cover of Jingle Bells by Genevieve Fisher. Unless the kid’s got a tumor the size of a grapefruit in his head (which can’t be the case, as his post-surgery recovery time is less than a half-hour), that’s either a lie or a mistake. I swear I saw the same little girl cutting the same green piece of paper into a snowflake for three days. Whenever a conflict arises in the office, the Prince’s father, King Edward (Charles Shaughnessy) appears on one of the innumerable TVs on the wall to tell the doctor to cool her jets. How he can have a conversation when none of these TVs are equipped with microphones and cameras, I don’t know. Why is a 40+-year-old man is still listening to his father like he’s a teen? Bad writing.
Christmas with a Prince fills you with shame. It’s so low budget the elaborate gowns look like something rented out of a marching school band, the characters are so unsuccessfully defined it can’t even get the kind of drama that just crawled out of the primordial pool right. The music is all stock, the actors, lousy, the dialogue clunky, the romance forced. I had a blast, knowing full well that everyone else watching would be tempted to shut it off seconds in. The Tuesday Chat on Wednesday
(1/24/18)
This almost didn’t happen, folks, because my husband is working night shift and I am super tired and I’m expecting my youngest to start crying any minute now. But.
This week’s Chat is dedicated to Teen Wolf. Kind of. Mostly. I have some thoughts.
@slightestcomplication said:  Is Teen Wolf worth watching? I feel like the fic fandom has probably ruined me for the show, as the writing won't be as good and the characterization less consistent. Fair? Or am I being too harsh? TY!
Okay, here’s the thing, I limped to the end of season 4 and then kind of half-assed the beginning of season 5 and literally could not watch it anymore, it was so painful, and there was no Derek. I couldn’t even bring myself to watch Derek come back in the farewell episodes. BUT:
The first season is kind of charming in how awkward and terrible it is? So I’d say that you could probably enjoy that for what it is, a mostly fun introduction to the characters, a baby-faced Stiles to stare at, Derek ACTUALLY lurking, like he just hangs on in dark places for real, it’s kind of hilarious. The plot is simplistic enough that it doesn’t seem too stupid.
Second season: SUPER BUFF ALPHA DEREK SHIRTLESS 90 PERCENT OF THE TIME FOR NO REAL REASON. Vamp Erica. Isaac crying over taking pain from a dog.  Boyd. I mean, there’s also the whole weird lizard Jackson thing but mostly it’s about Derek’s werewolf betas and how bad of an idea he had to turn a bunch of maladjusted outcasts.
First half of the third season, uh, weird alpha pack stuff, honestly not great in a sea of not great, but it kept my interest. It’s worth it to get this far just for:
The second half of the third season.  Look, DOB’s acting as the nogitsune is pretty phenomenal.
And then, THEN, you get Stiles actually going to Mexico to find Derek in the beginning of season 4.
The rest is… I mean, there are only really HIGHLIGHTS through-out the series, but while I did finish out season 4, I think I lasted maybe 2 episodes of 5 before crapping out. The writing is just so inconsistent and Scott’s self-righteousness gets SUPER old and if someone let them write another season I’m pretty sure aliens would have been involved, it just got too wild.
Conclusion: I wouldn’t discourage you from giving it a shot, but the fic is definitely one hundred percent better than the show.
Anonymous (definitely not @lissadiane) said:  What makes you decide to switch fandoms? What fandoms have you been involved in? What did you like best about each one? When will you write Winterhawk?
I feel so attacked right now! Ha ha ha, no, okay, so while I do enjoy the wonder that is Bucky and Clint making out and falling in love, I’m just not into writing superheroes! I guess that could change (especially if a certain someone wants to jump onto that train and I just have to follow).  I don’t know, I don’t like to write anything off completely. Only time will tell.
I’m not sure HOW I pick new fandom, it just kind of happens. I can’t even remember how I got into any fandom except for my first: I liked to peruse this one junk website, “Junk” was in the title but I can’t remember the actual name of the blog. Anyway, they’d linked to a random story, I think it was probably Harry/Ginny. I’d never even HEARD of fandom before, my first email address was from the college computer lab, and the internet confused me until I graduated and got a job at an internet start-up company (that tanked, as they all mostly did, 2 years later). ANYWHO. That aged me, right there.
So, quick fandom history: with a few crossover exceptions, basically I was in Harry Potter (03-05), then SGA (05-07), Bandslash (07-10), Brief Period of Time where I was Out of Fandom and Writing WHATEVER, and now Teen Wolf (12-present). As you can see, I’ve been in Teen Wolf the longest, even though I’ve written more Bandslash fic than anything else so far. I really think it’s the werewolves. I’ve always really really loved them, even before Teen Wolf.
Things that have drawn me to each are…
Harry Potter: wizards and witches!
SGA: SPACE ADVENTURES IN ANOTHER GALAXY, also Rodney and John. Also Ronon. But mainly Rodney and John.
Bandslash: boys in bands? Patrick Stump? Ryan Ross’s rose vest? The Cobra? William Beckett’s legs? Maya Ivarssan’s legs? VickyT? There’s just so many characters to chose from and they all intersect at some point, it was amazing.
Teen Wolf: Stiles and werewolves.
I’d need to find something I really connect with to switch fandoms. I read in A LOT. I can read anything, honestly, as long as it’s well written and compelling, but I can’t write in everything. I’m still kind of settled in sterek for the time being.
Anonymous said: If you could choose any actors and writers in the industry, who would you pick to write and star in TW? (You don't have to recast every role. TH could still be Derek, DOB could still be Stiles).
This is REALLY hard to imagine, mainly because I’ve had 5 years to hone these characters with certain specific faces in mind. For writers, basically anybody but Jeff Davis. Throw TWO OF MY THREE CATS at this show and they could write a better episode than Jeff Davis. It’d just be, like, an hour of Scott and Stiles eating at a diner and hissing at each other.
But, okay, for some reason I keep imagining Dan Radcliffe as Scott McCall, hapless teen wolf.  And he plays it like he’s Dan Radcliffe, not a character. I don’t know, that dude just amuses me to no end. I really want to see him accidentally bitten by a werewolf.
@booklady27 said:  This is more of a Teen Wolf comment than an ask, but whatever. There’s a city in Wisconsin (Holmen) whose street names have a peculiar amount of Teen Wolf references. The one that gets me the most is Hale Drive that turns into Wolfe Drive. NO JOKE! There’s also Hale Road, Hale Court, and Derek Avenue. It just makes me think that the Hale family founded the town and started naming the streets with their names (no Laura, Cora, etc., though; I checked.). [1/2]
It would be their own personal joke that Hale Drive turns into Wolfe Drive. What’s also funny is that there’s a Hunter Court. It makes me imagine that a Hunter family moved into a new subdivision in their town, so they decided to be funny and name the street Hunter Court. I can’t NOT drive through this city without snickering to myself that the Hale family owns it and are trolling everyone! Holmen, WI is legit the setting of a fanfic! [2/2]
I would definitely read an AU about this.  There should be super blatant werewolf references all over town too. And a kitchy monster-themed coffee shop that a oblivious Stiles frequents!
Thank you to all who sent me asks!! Please feel free to send me more for next week :))

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” - My review
(***WARNING!!! May contain positive opinions!!!!)
I walked into this movie feeling two separate emotions: 1) I was prepared to despise it and whatever downgrade that came along with it. And 2) I still wanted to approach this with as much of an open mind as I could and give it a chance. Apart from the recasting controversy, the surge of downvotes on the film’s trailers on YouTube that surely make A Christmas Story 2 blush (yes, that actually exists), and the scathing reviews it has received on Rotten Tomatoes, you must ask yourself a few questions…does it really warrant the critical thrashing it’s being given? Does it deserve to be shunned away from the rest of the franchise? Is it worth my time just to check it out and see what all the hate is about? Is this just a shameless cash grab to make a quick buck for Fox? Well, let’s dive in and find the answers to these harrowing questions, shall we?
This latest installment in the Wimpy Kid films follows protagonist Greg Heffley (now portrayed by Jason Drucker) and his family getting ready to embark on a family road trip for his grandmother’s 90th birthday. But after a ballpit mishap forever brands Greg as an internet meme known as “Diaper Hands”, our hero decides to use this family trip to his advantage. His plan is to reroute the van GPS to a video game convention so he can meet his favorite YouTuber, an obnoxious, catchphrase-spewing gamer named Mac Digby, and appear in his next video with the hopes that everyone will eventually forget the “Diaper Hands” incident. As the Heffleys hit the road, numerous hijinks ensue, including: another vacationing family with a crazy bearded patriarch who has it out for Greg, faulty car engines, dive-bombing pigeons who have an insatiable hunger for Cheese Puffs, disgusting roach motels, a technology ban that the mother Susan (now played by Alicia Silverstone) reinforces with an iron fist, a baby pig, and several other road movie inconveniences.
Seeing as how multiple DOAWK fans, or at least the ones I’ve come across in my life, can attest to the fact that The Long Haul is one of the weaker books in the series, the fact that they chose to adapt this book for the screen was baffling at best. To pad out the runtime, the screenwriters (one of the them being Jeff Kinney himself) borrow elements from the other books to make everything balance out and have a “cohesive narrative”. For me, the better part of the movie is the last half because that’s where the story gets you hooked and it keeps your interest in just what will happen to these characters on the rest of their journey. It’s the only portion of the film where they feel like they’re a real family and it delivers some heartwarming moments that actually got an “awwww” out of me! The first half is more plodding and meandering, confused on whether or not it should give the characters something funny to say or do and is where a solid chunk of the expected gross-out humor and groaner jokes are, playing out like a Disney Channel recut of the 2015 Vacation reboot/sequel. Be warned, easily disgusted…there’s a barf scene that will literally make you thank the sweet lord that this DOAWK movie was not released in 3D. That doesn’t mean there are ZERO laughs to be found. The comedy is present but is executed awkwardly at times, isn’t exactly up to par with the original movies, and is more scattered and sporadic. You just have to really keep focused to find the particularly humorous moments. Plus, four words: Psycho shower scene homage.
While many fans will disagree, the replacement cast doesn’t really bother me as much as I thought they would (except for a certain rock music-loving older brother in the family but we’ll get to him in a minute). Jason Drucker is aware he’s got some pretty big shoes to fill in taking over the role of Greg but you have to give this kid credit where credit is due. He’s got a bit of a young Zachary Gordon flair reminiscent of Greg in the first DOAWK movie but still manages to make this interpretation of the character something all his own. As for the parents, they aren’t too bad, either. They’re no Rachael Harris and Steve Zahn, but their acting abilities appear to be on both ends of the spectrum. Tom Everett Scott, playing dad Frank Heffley, looks slightly ashamed to be a part of the project but he toughs it out the best he can like a champ, and Alicia Silverstone on the other hand seems like she genuinely had a blast on the set and just enjoyed every second of being there. Bottom line, the brand new cast DOES pale in comparison to the original but they’re decent replacements and don’t half-ass their performances on screen. They were a pleasant surprise.
But then you got Rodrick, played by Charlie Wright. After the trailers were first released, the recasting of Rodrick was what pushed Wimpy Kid fans over the edge. “#NotMyRodrick” was a hashtag that blew up all over social media, resulting in countless upon countless internet memes and edits. I will admit, a lot of those memes are really hilarious. But one would put themselves in denial and figure, “Maybe they’re saving all the funny Rodrick scenes for when the movie comes out but now we’re just saddled with the unfunny material”. But putting the controversy aside, does Charlie Wright do the character any justice? Um…they got that Rodrick is in a band called Löded Diper and likes rock music. That’s really about it. Now, in the books and movies, he obviously isn’t the brightest bulb in the tanning bed but he was still fun. Devon Bostick was clearly going to be a tough act to follow because he brought likability to a character we’re supposed to hate. Plus, he was the original emo dreamboat in many a pre-teen/teen girl’s eye. Wright, however, either over exaggerates his lines or is way too laid back. And even then, he doesn’t really seem to take the role all that seriously and is basically winging it. Out of everyone in the film, they wrote him the laziest by dumbing him down to Patrick Star levels (oh yeah...PATRICK STAR LEVELS!!!) He confuses a hotel safe for a microwave *insert immediate facepalm here*, he literally has the line “We’ve got a pet pig, now that means we’ll get bacon every morning” *insert double facepalm*, eats nine sticks of deep-fried butter only to go on a ride at the country fair and declare “I could totally go for another stick of butter” after PUKING IT ALL UP on said ride, and plenty more but if i list everything, we’ll be here all night. The only “A” for effort he gets is for a freak-out scene near the end of the film and it’s one of the few parts that got me to laugh but I dare not give it away here!
I’m decidedly half-and-half so far, but what are the other elements of The Long Haul that need no nitpicking? The music score and the soundtrack are a lot of fun, the color palette and atmosphere pops off the screen and you feel like you’ve been transported back into the world of Greg Heffley again, and the final scene does get your heart in bizarrely sweet way. I don’t know, maybe I’m just a sucker for that kind of stuff.
             My overall thoughts in general?
PROS: Most of the cast is alright, Jason Drucker is a passable Greg Heffley (I think Zachary Gordon would be very proud of him), the soundtrack, the last half is better than the first half because of its heart, only three laugh-out-loud scenes, and its aesthetic certainly feels like a DOAWK film.
CONS: Majority of the comedy comes off as confused and unsure, Charlie Wright as Rodrick (seriously, man, what did they do to your character?), the gross-out humor is too much, most of the jokes fall flat, the first half could’ve been written better, and it somehow feels much longer than the past films but yet it has the shortest runtime out of them all (90 minutes).
FINAL THOUGHTS: I can most definitely understand why critics are tearing this movie apart and why fans would do the same, too. Personally, I’m glad I at least sat down and gave The Long Haul a chance. Is it as great as the original movies? No. But for what it is, it could’ve been waaay worse! Would this have fared better by going direct-to-DVD, done as an animated special for Cartoon Network, or as a Netflix Original Movie rather than be released theatrically? Yes. Is it the trainwreck we all anticipated it’d be? Not really. It’s bad but not horrendous. Am I gonna watch it multiple times like I have with the past films? Nah, one viewing is good enough for me. While it is an unnecessary installment, The Long Haul is harmless and if you watch it only to find yourself loving it, then that’s awesome; it doesn’t make you an idiot or a bad person. It means that at the very least, you were able to find more to love in it than I could. So, if I had to give this a letter grade, let’s make it a “C” or “C-”.

KOF English Voicecanons
Even though people are apprehensive by this idea because of KOF MI and XII and even Sky Stage, an anime was promised and that may have a dub? Who knows? Filling in voicecanons is fun!
Most of these, almost all of these, were filled by my BF so I’m honestly just as surprised by some of them as you are.
These are organized by team and under them those associated with the teams.
Japan Team Kyo - Johnny Yong Bosch (Yu Narukami, but really it’s all the same) Benimaru - Troy Baker (Eikichi Mishina) Daimon - Kevin Michael Richardson (Default Speaking Voice) Shingo - Yuri Lowenthal (Yosuke Hanamura) Kusanagi - Johnny Yong Bosch (Tohru Adachi, because he also voices Kaneda but protag voices sound the same...)

off the rack #1247
Monday, January 28, 2019
What a classic Canadian winter we're having right now. It was bitterly cold but sunny yesterday so I went for a walk around the boundary of our neighbourhood. I walked out to Bank Street, turned south to go to Alta Vista Drive, turned north-east to go to Heron Road, turned west to go back to Bank Street again and then up Portland Avenue and home. It was very invigorating. More snow is forecast and Ottawa may break its all time record for the amount of snow fallen in January. Thank Thor I don't have to shovel all of it.
What a great week for outstanding art. My eyes couldn't believe the work it was relishing with every comic book that I read. I generally choose the comic books that I want to read based on who writes it. When I flip through a new book that has nice art I will give it a try even though I don't recognise the writer's name. I do get disappointed when a writer I like is drawn by an artist that doesn't appeal to me, but I will continue to read the book. But if the story doesn't appeal to me even with beautiful art, I can't continue to read that comic. Monstress is a good example. I was surprised many times with the art this week. I haven't felt this happy after reading a pile of comic books in a long time.
Man Without Fear #4 - Jed MacKay (writer) Paolo Villanelli (art) Andres Mossa (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime and still Mayor of New York City, pays a visit to Matt in the hospital. The biggest point that this issue makes is that Daredevil's secret identity is intact. When the Kingpin became mayor I thought the idea was ludicrous. Now not so much.
Hardcore #2 - Andy Diggle (writer) Alessandro Vitti (art) Adriano Lucas (colours) Thomas Mauer (letters). This issue of an impossible mission is action-packed. Agent Drake is trapped but good. I love this crazy off the wall stuff.
Superior Spider-Man #2 - Christos Gage (writer) Mike Hawthorne (pencils) Wade von Grawbadger with Victor Olazaba (inks) Jordie Bellaire (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). So why is Terrax terrorizing Earth again? Because he wants to rule the entire planet. Hey, why not. Otto makes a valiant effort to beat the cosmically powered villain but all seems lost until his ex-girlfriend comes to the rescue. I like how Otto uses his brain to augment brawn when he fights bad guys.
The Immortal Hulk #12 - Al Ewing (writer) Joe Bennett (main story pencils) Ruy Jose (main story inks) Eric Nguyen (flashbacks art) Paul Mounts (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). We are introduced to another side of the Hulk while he's in Hell. When the Hulk first hit the racks, he was just this big monster being pursued by the army. All he wanted was to be left alone but General Ross kept hounding him. Ever since they added multiple personalities to this character, he's become far more interesting. This story takes a serious look at Satan and what the devil means to mankind. A surprisingly mature theme for a super hero comic book.
Cover #5 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) David Mack (art) Michael Avon Oeming (Owen art) Zu Orzu (colours) Carlos Mangual (letters). A comic book artists traveling around the world attending comic book conventions is an excellent cover for a spy. It's much more interesting because Max the artist is constantly out of his depth.
The Avante-Guards #1 - Carly Usdin (writer) Noah Hayes (art) Rebecca Nalty (colours) Ed Dukeshire (letters). I liked the art in this when I flipped through it so I pulled it off the rack to read. I'm glad I did. This is a slice-of-life comic book starring Charlene "Charlie" Bravo, a freshman at an arts college. She's a loner who I took a liking to after reading this first issue. Charlie meets perky go-getter Olivia who is trying to form a basketball team to play against other art colleges. I'm going to stick around to see if this southpaw joins the team. I really like the clever title of this book too.
Guardians of the Galaxy #1 - Donny Cates (writer) Geoff Shaw (art) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Now see? This here is a new Marvel #1 that's worthy of being bought off the rack. It's a sequel to "Infinity Wars", which didn't hold my attention, and introduces the new team. Seems like the old team broke up during "Infinity Wars". If the new team isn't enough to get you hooked on this 6-issue story, then their first mission will. They have to stop the resurrection of Thanos. Y'see, the Mad Titan was killed in "Infinity Wars". There's guest stars galore and the one on the last page is another reason I want to keep reading. And wait until you see how Groot has changed. I haven't felt this excited after reading a Marvel #1 in some time.
Oliver #1 - Gary Whitta (writer) Darick Robertson (art) Diego Rodriguez (colours) Simon Bowland (letters). It's been a while since we've seen Darick Robertson's art on the racks. His work on "The Boys" made that series a highlight issue after issue. I think his work in this post apocalyptic story based in London, England is some of his best. Oliver is born into this hell hole but he grows up fast. There's a genetic mystery that's got me interested but it's the art that will keep me reading.
Blossoms 666 #1 - Cullen Bunn (writer) Laura Braga (art) Matt Herms (colours) Jack Morelli (letters). This new Archie Horror book should tide you over while you're waiting for the next Sabrina book to hit the racks. I know that the new Blossom twins have been recast as villains and this will show you how dark they've gotten. If the number of the beast isn't a hint, wait until you see what Cheryl is up to on the last page.
Naomi #1 - Brian Michael Bendis & David F. Walker (writers) Jamal Campbell (art) Josh Reed (letters). Have you given up on Riri Williams/Ironheart? I haven't yet, but it's not the same without Brian Michael Bendis writing her adventures. Well, if you're looking for a comic book just as cool and eye-popping gorgeous, please give this new DC/Wonder Comics a look see. It's very difficult to get a brand new character onto the racks that will get me jazzed but Brian has done it here. Superman makes a cameo but this is all about a troubled teen growing up in a small town. I can't wait to find out more about Naomi's mysterious past. Jamal Campbell's pretty art is a huge bonus.
Shazam #2 - Geoff Johns (writer) Marco Santucci (art) Mike Atiyeh (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). The big surprise at the end of the first issue gets a cursory two page mention before we join the Shazam siblings back in the grand central station of the Magiclands. There are seven lands to explore and Funland seems to be safe. Meanwhile, we get our first look at Mr. Mind and as an added bonus, his origin story. The art in this issue is really nice and we are left with another new character on the last page that makes me want to keep reading. King Kid, ruler of Funland: good or evil?
Avengers #13 - Jason Aaron (writer) Andrea Sorrentino (art) Justin Ponsor & Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This is the origin story of Fan Fei, the very first Iron Fist from one million years BC. She deserves her own mini series by these guys. Andrea Sorrentino's art impressed me immensely when he did Green Arrow with Jeff Lemire and I think he's gotten better since. His stuff in here reminded me of Frank Quitely. It sure is pretty.
Batman #63 - Tom King (writer) Mikel Janin (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). Knightmares part 3. Batman is trapped in a dream with Constantine. If the second hand smoke doesn't drive you crazy, the dream will. This look into Batman's psyche reminds me of the time he was captured during the Court of Owls story. It was nice to see Tom explore what might have happened if the Cat and the Bat got married.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2 - Tom Taylor (writer) Juann Cabal (art) Nolan Woodard (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). This isn't just friendly, it's amazing and spectacular. I haven't felt this much joy reading a Spider-Man/Peter Parker story since Brian Michael Bendis was writing Miles Morales/Spider-Man stories. The scene with the kids and Johnny Storm was cute. I like how Mayor Fisk's cameo establishes when this story happens. The cherry on top was the last page introducing a new character named The Rumor that made me giggle with glee. I can't wait to read #3.
