Phoenix: Technologically illiterate, doesn’t really know what social media is or how to use it and refuses to learn because the longer he keeps up the bit the funnier it gets

Edgeworth: Doesn’t particularly care for social media, but found out about tumblr through Maya and now has an anonymous Steel Samurai account. His tagging system is meticulous and he has all notifications turned off. He treats it like he does office work. He and Maya are mutuals. Doesn’t have a personal account to speak of

Maya: Runs a semi-popular canon url pink princess and steel samurai fan tumblr. Also has a personal Instagram that’s mostly her eating burgers

Pearl: Didn’t have social media for a long time because of Morgan, but Maya introduced her and she has a very inactive private Instagram. She’s also in charge of the Kurain Village socials, which are very neat and professional

Mia: Was technologically illiterate and died before the social media boom was completely inescapable so nada

Diego: Socials weren’t as big before he fell into a coma and afterwards he doesn’t care too much about his image so he has nothing. Apollo: Has a twitter with two followers that he uses to retweet and comment on legal academia news. He’s super active on all the law forums and legal advice columns and unfortunately has definitely posted on r/AskALawyer on mutliple occasions. His real claim to fame, though, is the anonymous Instagram he runs for his cat Mikeko. It’s called “The Pawsecutor’s Office” and he dresses up Mikeko like all the prosecutors (Miles Edgepurrth, Clawvier Gavin, Franziska Von Catma, etc) for photoshoots and silly skits. It’s wildly popular and Apollo would die if he were revealed to be behind it

Klavier: Super popular across all platforms and loves being silly online. If Edgeworth saw all the thirst traps he was posting he would prolly have a heart attack

Kristoph: Has a very minimal personal account for professional reasons but his REAL online footprint is the dozens of alternate accounts he uses to cyberstalk people and send his brother hate mail

Athena: Perfectly normal social media user. Has personal accounts that she posts to occasionally with cute photos of what she’s doing. The only person using it correctly

Trucy: Insanely popular on socials for her magic act. Knows how to market herself online better than anyone. She has a smaller personal account where she occasionally posts silly things about the WAA

Blackquill: Ran an edgy anime Tumblr for years before his incarceration and was posting on AO3 a lot. He comes back after his release explaining the break between chapters of his latest fanfiction was due to him being put on death row for seven years and continues posting normally with no mention of his prison sentence ever again. When he finally posts another AMV it’s a joyous day indeed

let’s talk about franziska and grief in justice for all.

the narrative that the games, at first glance, appear to be pushing is that franziska is aware edgeworth has not committed suicide. she repeatedly affirms this, most notably in turnabout bigtop, when she tells phoenix that she believes her brother to be alive and hiding somewhere. however, one thing we need to keep in mind is that franziska and edgeworth were not shown to be close in the interim between jfa and the prequel cases in aai — in fact, it would go against both their characters and the writing of their relationship for them to have kept in much contact at all.

franziska is, if anything, rooted in the past. her hair is cut almost boyishly short and choppy. she carries around a whip because she is so used to being spoken over and ignored, having started her career so young. her youth underlies her every professional achievement; and if not her youth, then her lineage. her physical design is meant to reflect the uniform of a jockey, and taking her aristocratic surname into account, it makes sense: horseback riding, obsessive as it is, remains a pastime for the social class she inhabits. it’s only logical that, in the absence of a real connection with her brother, she would base her understanding of his character on the most recent version of him that she knows, being the vain and easily affronted rookie prosecutor wracked between ambition and guilt that she grew up with. she has no way to know how to fill in the gaps between a suicide note and the brother she knew, because to her, there is no gap to fill in; it seems a logical conclusion to her brother's story and life that he would rather run away than face his own failures. it is consistent with the younger version of edgeworth that we see in trials and tribulations. it is difficult to reconcile that individual with someone who might actually take his own life, at least outwardly speaking. franziska has no hands-on knowledge of her brother and his mental state beyond what she might have seen in the press or heard filtered down from her father. it’s only natural that she draws the conclusion that he simply turned tail and ran away in order to preserve his dignity. it is an obvious conclusion to make.

however, this interpretation completely overlooks the fact that franziska is not stupid. she is well aware that her brother had very recently been 'betrayed' by the man to whose standards he strived to rise to almost his entire life and is aware that the driving force behind this desperation to prove himself was his father's murder. manfred von karma was their father; there is a tendency in both the games and their surrounding fanbase to portray the senior von karma as being nothing more than a teacher and mentor, but if we examine the (limited) dialogue the three share in aai, edgeworth and franziska address von karma as one might a particularly volatile and austere parental figure, and he responds in kind. he employs and underlines a pattern of the same types of verbal abuse and neglect present in many fictional case studies of the paternal abuser; to edgeworth, he shows the former and to franziska, often the latter (what comes to mind is a piece of dialogue wherein franziska, aged 13, asks her father if he will attend her courtroom debut, to which he responds, "i'll consider it"). she frequently demonstrates her emotional intelligence, again, particularly as a child, such as a short exchange in which von karma berates edgeworth rather cruelly and is met with silence. rather than let the topic linger, franziska very deliberately changes the subject, asking von karma who he thinks is the culprit behind the current investigation. later, when edgeworth thanks her for it, she acts as if she does not know what he's talking about.

back in the 'present day', her insistence that she defeat phoenix wright in order to avenge her family name is also rendered moot; franziska places a lot of pride in her family name, but her defense of her father is lackluster at best. she, too, is left to grapple with the weight of his legacy and has (seemingly) decided that her father simply does not live up to expectations. he instilled in her such strong convictions regarding the meaning of the law and the von karma family name, and it only makes sense that, once he failed so utterly to exemplify them, she would instead shift her understanding of those convictions onto herself and the only other person she believes she can see those qualities in, being miles edgeworth.

the initial theory, that franziska believes edgeworth to be in hiding, while a version of the truth, would not appear to be the truth to someone who has repeatedly demonstrated the emotional intelligence and understanding of the subject necessary to read between the so-called lines; to me, it is obvious that franziska believed, at least in large part, that edgeworth really had killed himself, and her actions and dialogue in jfa shift subtly into a much more interesting light if one runs with this interpretation. she goes from presenting herself — something i'm going to touch on in a moment — as an almost cartoonishly dense and vain girl into someone desperate to deny the truth staring her right in the face; that she has been virtually abandoned by every figure she loved and trusted in her life, left to uphold a legacy with no room for error, bound to rules so straight-edge and self-imposed that no single person could ever walk only in their light. anyone would resort to staunch denial — and franziska, so attached to her past, does so with aplomb.

finally, i want to point out that it's very easy to take franziska at face value. as unfortunate as it is, she's only present in four games — aai, aai2, jfa, and t&t — and she usually isn't in the majority of cases in those games. there is a stark yet subtle difference in her comportment in the investigations games, though, which can be very clearly explained: in every game she speaks to the player character, and in jfa, the player character is phoenix wright, her self-ascribed enemy. it makes complete sense that she would present herself a certain way, speak in certain manners, and act rash and overconfident in front of him, because she hates him.

all this to say, franziska is a very potent case study of grief and how it can change people, especially when that grief gets caught up in a messy tangle of ambition and a legacy whose stipulations border almost on mania. also, i love her very dearly and thought this would be interesting to talk about. obviously, this is not the entirety of the situation, as i mostly focused on franziska's relationship to edgeworth, but i think this is long enough as is.

Fun fact I noticed about Mitsurugi (Edgeworth) while playing the game series

Despite the fact that he is a brilliant prosecutor (although he does not consider himself one) with a brilliant mind, excellent logic, who abandoned the path of perfection, choosing the path of the bitter truth, he... tends to exaggerate the facts in situations that are unfavorable for him.

If we look at the famous dialogue about paper cranes, then in response to Yahari's (Larry) teasing, we get the following answer:

And okay, he would have said about a regular-sized crane, but a quarter of an inch (I don’t use the American measurement system, but in the Japanese version the size of the crane was 5 millimeters - it’s even impossible to convert this into inches, because according to the converter, 1/4 inch = 6.35 millimeters, which is slightly larger than the original version).

Let's say that he can change the situation for himself in a positive direction in front of the Detective or Yahari - people who are not distinguished by a sharp mind.

It's funny that with Naruhodō (Wright) he doesn't allow himself to behave like that. He doesn't try to seem better to him by tilting the situation in his favor - his dialogues with him are absolutely frank.

For example, after the earthquake in the mountains at the Hazakura temple, Mitsurugi does not specify the time for which he passed out after feeling the earth tremors, but admits that this was enough for the defendant to escape from custody to the other end of the bridge. Just a fact: I passed out - she ran away. Naruhodou, in turn, simply expresses concern for his condition, without in any way mocking his phobia.

In other words, Mitsurugi can embellish facts that are unfavorable for himself in a dialogue, but he will not do this with all listeners.

Miles Edgeworth - writes Steel Samurai fanfiction on ao3 and has been doing it for some time now (the living embodiment of the ao3 writers curse) would rather die than anyone finding that out tho, doesn’t have a lot of free time so only posts once in like 3-4 months, fics are pretty good and distinct since he writes them with so much formality, so he is relatively popular in some fandom spaces;

Maya Fey- fanfiction reader only, runs an account on Tumblr for Steel Samurai news and fanwork, famous in the fandom and runs a discord server, one of those people that lowkey have their own fandom mostly bc of the insane revelations she drops about her own life from time to time ( “ lmao guys sorry for being absent but i got accused of murder for the 4th time and that really sucked ANYWAYS did you guys look at the leaks for the new reboot… “ ) Shes also way too open about herself on the internet;

Franziska Von Karma: I don’t believe Franziska is a fanfiction reader nor is she into any fandom, i do however believe she has notifications turned on for Edgeworth’s ao3 account, he doesn’t know that of course, what a foolish fool to think he could hide such a thing from his big sister, she will sometimes quote his work back to him and find amusing seeing him freeze. He thinks its a coincidence because he is too secretive about his hobbies, he’s wrong, she’s been following him online since she was 13, that’s how she knew he wasn’t dead in JFA.

Extras: Phoenix is technologically illiterate, he couldn’t read fanfiction even if he wanted to. Apollo is way too normal for that, he has the law autism not the fandom one. Athena knows of fanfiction bc she is young and in the internet but she wasn’t very interested in it. If you ask Gumshoe about fanfiction he would give you a smile and say “Of course im a Fan of Fiction Pal!”. I do believe Pearl has wattpad but only reads original works on there, so in my opinion she doesn’t count.

You fully know who's responsible for sending these flowers but you usually didn't do anything, you just left the flowers to rot.

But one day, he appears and he begs for your return to the sky above. When you refuse and are about to leave, he grabs your wrist and kneels down upon you, hugging your waist and trails of apologies and begging for forgiveness. When you demand to release you he hugs you tighter, and finally when he looks up. He has tears coming down his eyes. After one sentence of begging you to come home. You are finally reluctant to retrieve back to the sky.

You even manage to meet his son he had with another goddess, he has red hair and beautiful golden eyes. Even tho he was the product of the affair it wasn't his fault but you still cared for him as a mother.

Even tho the love you have for him was gone, it started to grow even tho it's not as big as it was before it slowly is growing and he will be patient waiting for you.

This is my first time writing romance and there was barely anything about the goddess frig so I decided to go by my own path, sorry if this wasn't what you were expecting but I've tried my best.

Miles Edgeworth saw a lot of people who were accused of murder. Some of them were really guilty, and some turned out to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, which they managed to prove during the trial. But he never thought that he would see you in the place of the accused of murder. You had been dating him for a long time and he was sure that you were a sincere person who would not commit murder. But the evidence was against you. He saw the fear in your eyes, saw that you really weren't guilty, but he was the prosecutor, the prosecutor who had to prove your guilt. That's why he decided to turn to the most reliable person he knew, except you. He turned to Phoenix Wright

He explained to his friend about what happened, that you didn't have an alibi, but he was sure of your innocence. Phoenix was ready to defend you in court, because he also couldn't believe that you were guilty. Edgeworth was doing his job, because if he didn't do anything, things could get even worse. Thanks to his reputation, he was allowed to see you alone and he supported you as much as he could. He knew from his own experience what it was like to be accused of murder, so he wasn't going to leave you alone with this fear. You tried to answer his questions in as much detail as possible, and he guessed that you answered the questions Phoenix asked you in the same way. You had nothing to hide, which proved once again that you were not guilty

Miles tried to stay calm during the trial, just like you. For three days, you were both very worried about what was happening, you were worried about how the investigation was going, but if you couldn't do anything, then Edgeworth did everything so that you wouldn't end up in jail by mistake. It was only when the judge declared you innocent that you both could breathe a sigh of relief

As soon as the trial ended and you left the courtroom, the prosecutor hurried to you to hug you tightly. At that moment, your endurance ran out and you cried, clinging to him. These three days have been hard for you, but now you can relax. You were waiting for the celebration of the successful completion of the trial, which Maya insisted on, and then returning home. Miles was going to take a few days off, which he planned to spend with you. The fear that you might disappear would not leave him for a few more days, so he wanted to spend this time with you. You both really needed it

You were in Los Angeles together and she was doing work, while you were spending time with new friends, exploring the city and walking with Maya. But now you were in trouble and Franziska wasn't sure if she could help you. She was a prosecutor, and you needed the help of a lawyer. You were clearly not guilty, she would never have believed that you could commit murder, but she would not have been able to help you alone

She was trying to find evidence of your innocence and found out from the police that you had a lawyer. That lawyer was Phoenix Wright. Maya asked him to help you and he couldn't refuse her, especially since he was sure of your innocence. He annoyed her, but she understood that if anyone could help you prove your innocence, it would be him. Franziska continued her work as a prosecutor, trying to visit you as often as possible. You were glad to see her and tried to remain optimistic, but she saw that you were scared. She knew you too well not to recognize your true emotions. That's why she tried to stay as confident as usual in order to keep you believing that everything will be fine. The last thing she wanted to see was despair on your face

She felt particularly annoyed during the trial. Listening to you being accused of a murder you didn't commit was hard for her, but she tried to keep her cool as much as possible. The longer the trial lasted, the more irritated she became and the more often the clicks of her whip were heard. It was only when you were found innocent that she was able to exhale and a faint smile appeared on her face. For the first time, she didn't feel angry about losing in court, because even though the case was lost for her, she was still the winner

After you left the courtroom, Franziska had only one wish. She wanted to go home with you and spend the evening hugging you. In those three days, she realized that she would never want to lose you. You were one of the dearest people in her life and she was willing to go to great lengths to protect you

okay i forget if i already made a post about this but i think the fact that franziska full-names edgeworth is really interesting!! I know that she full names basically everyone when she addresses them but edgewrth specifically she only called "Miles" when we see them interacting as younger people. So she consciously switched to calling him "Miles Edgeworth" at some point which we can infer either was her growing up and deciding to be hyper-formal to show how grown up she is (probable but in my opinion she was trying to do this even at 13 so it doesnt make sense to me that that would motivate this change) OR!!!! was a reaction to the events of turnabout goodbyes/ Edgeworth faking his death

Franziska referring to Edgeworth by his full name is interesting for a couple of reasons, mostly due to the fact that she is continually bringing up his family name and therefore both M. E.'s relationship to his father and also the fact that her and edgeworth have very different fathers with differing baggage accompanying those relationships

We can see franziska calling edgeworth by his last name as a way of her belittling him as she often does by implying that he is not a Von Karma/ therefore bellow her BUT!! we also know from the airport convo in 2-4 that she USED to consider him a von karma...

and that allegedly her view on this changed recently.

I think its also worthy to point out though, that franziska calling him miles edgeworth also places an importance on a part of edgeworth's life that MvK did his best to erase or weaponize against him. MvK interestingly refers to him as "Edgeworth" so her adding this could be a show that they are more informal now because he ran away/ betrayed her/ the VK legacy ect. but also at this point she knows that MvK was guilty! And that Edgeworth sr. "beat" MvK (in whatever wild way von karmas categorize winning/ losing) so i like to think that theres something almost kind about referring to him as his whole name, symbolically seeing him as a whole person, acknowledging his past that shaped him from before they knew each other,,, </3

The answer will then come during the trial, but for now she just wants to erase herself from the scene;

As soon as she was allowed in your room, she just sat beside you and waited for each update on your state;

Only when you were allowed to come back home, she could give her head some peace;

She had to go to the courtroom again after Miles asked her, but after that she remained glued to you, making sure that you received every possible and needed care, cuddle and attention;

Of course, as soon as she knew De Killer was behind everything that happened, she assigned herself to every case that in some way included him, his past and recent crimes, trying in every way to make him pay for what he did, in particular to you.

After a conflict with racists and police at a demonstration, Gilges was arrested and jailed for one year. Despite this, he continued his activism, and travelled through many towns and villages attempting to mobilise opposition to Nazism. After the Nazi takeover, in June 1933, he was abducted from his apartment in front of his family by a dozen SS officers. His body was soon found in the River Rhine, with 37 stab wounds and a bullet wound to the head. One of his daughters, Franziska Helmuss, later recalled: "His funeral was well attended, but exclusively by women. The men were too afraid to be associated with him. The stonemason who made the gravestone for my father was incarcerated for five years in a Nazi concentration camp." Despite some of his killers being known, none of them were punished after the war. A plaza in Düsseldorf by his apartment was named after him in 2003. PLEASE elaborate on the phoenix and franziska shenanigans during the 7yg you have NO idea how much i like them

I am someone who loved the investigative portion of Bridge to the Turnabout where Franziska had to babysit Phoenix when he wasn't allowed to follow Miles and Iris. I think when he's not her rival defense attorney and is looking particularly pathetic, she is actually pretty chill around him. She is not exempt from his aura that gets young women to imprint on him and follow him around.

She is genuinely offended on his behalf when he gets disbarred because he beat Miles and Manfred and even her! why the hell would he cheat in a case against a teenager! She does not think for a second that he forged that diary page because she knows firsthand how he throws himself into things and cannot prepare an entire evil plan for shit. However, she does not know how to convey this to him so she bullies Miles into flying him and Trucy around because Miles is almost too good at being resigned to pine sadly from a distance.

It's also important to know that she sees Phoenix being a caring father to Trucy and as someone who never really had a valid father, decided that maybe (ex) defense attorneys have rights... Even if Miles didn't get his shit together to put a ring on That Man's finger, Franziska would find herself in Phoenix's found family, it's only a matter of time.

For some reason Phoenix doesn't go to court with Edgeworth, maybe he can't stand being there while not being a lawyer, maybe he forgot he wasn't an attorney once and got kicked out for yelling out an objection, it doesn't matter, Trucy gets to be Edgeworths weirdgirl assistant and Phoenix is stuck investigating with Franziska and they are the worst people to keep each other out of trouble. We're talking about 'guy who ran across a burning bridge' and 'woman who got shot in the shoulder and still managed to get to court eventually' they are an unstoppable duo when they find something they can both get behind.

If anyone can slowly get Franziska to loosen up and learn to embrace the childhood that she lost, it would be Phoenix. I mean, this girl passed the bar at like 13 there was no way she had time to binge she-ra and check out books on drawing horses from the library. He would convince her to get a cat who hangs out in a window backpack that she can carry around during her travels because it turns out that her life is kinda lonely and she totally seems like the cat lesbian type. She is also allergic to cats so she has to get a sphinx or a devon rex or just the most gargoyle/ golbin looking creature to walk on this earth. That just seems like her vibe.
