She and Luke met in Michigan. Both were students searching for fun and nothing more. She had been in terrible relationships and lost all her hope to find a right man, especially during her college years. Luke was scared to open his heart because every girl was using him to get into his brothers. They were two teenagers with trust issues, terrified of another disappointment in love.
One party changed everything. She opened herself for Luke and Luke felt that she’s not gonna go for his brothers. Casual conversation turned to dates and later to relationship. They were soulmates despite coming from different environments and not sharing much of common interests. Their love can be summed up as right person, right time.
So cool but so kind
With that look in your eye
When she laid eyes on Luke, she saw the spark in his eyes. He was stoic yet cheerful. She couldn’t keep her sign out of him. He wasn’t blind. He felt her piercing eyes on him and decided to approach her. Luke was talkative and flirty. He was telling her stories to impress her, but he didn’t know that she’s already gone in him.
Luke was respectful, he hasn’t pushed his luck with her. He was way different from other guys who made her feel uncomfortable the minute, they started to talk with her. She found Luke as a very intrigue person. She wanted to know more about him. She asked him the most random questions.
After couple minutes of their conversation, she started to tell him about herself. Earlier it was all about Luke but now, she was the center of attention. She was telling him about her origins, her major and her hobbies. She thought that she might bored him. He was a popular hockey player, and she was just an ordinary girl but when she saw the sparkles in his eyes, she fell in love.
She felt so safe telling him all the stories. Luke was grateful that someone was looking at him as a person and not athlete. They spent all night on talking. He asked for her number and the next day, he asked her out. They say eyes are mirror of the soul and their eyes were showing it. Both were obsessed in each other, and they could communicate with each other just by looking into eyes.
And you ain’t scared to cry, what a rare breed
She was growing up in household where men weren’t crying. They couldn’t show their weak side. That’s why she always thought that women can cry. All her exes also never sheer a tear in front of her. She believed that they can’t show proper emotions.
For her, crying was like a release. When she was felt weak, mad, panicked or tired, she was bawling her eyes. It was helping her to settle her emotions down. She always wondered what men are doing to calm down.
When Luke picked up a shoulder injury and told her about it, he cried in front of her. For the first time, she saw a man crying. She was confused, she didn’t have a clue what to do. She froze in spot when this happened. She wanted to cheer him up, but she didn’t know what to do.
She asked him what to do and Luke told her that he just needed to release his emotions. He felt comfortable to do it next to her. She explained him why she hasn’t reacted and apologized but he laughed. He promised her that it’s normal and he’s doing this a lot of times. In that moment, she knew, he’s the one.
Your shoulders, your hands, oh you must be a man
Written by a woman
Luke was lanky. Despite being an athlete, he wasn’t muscular. This changed when he joined New Jersey Devils. He started going more and more on the gym. His shoulders and arms became wider and gained more muscles. She loved him previously but now; she loved him even more. She loved dragging her nails down his biceps.
The thing she adored the most in Luke were his hands. They were so big compared to her. His fingers were insanely long. He knew about her kink on his hands and he used it to his advantage. He always had his hand on her. When they were on a walk, he held his big hand on her lower back or were holding hands. In a car, he always placed his hand on her thigh.
Their sex life was superior. She adored when he was fucking her, and she could mark his strong shoulders, later admiring the marks on his back. He loved to make her cum just by his fingers. With her, he learned that he has a thing for choking. When he was seeing his long fingers on her throat, he was going insane.
You can be rough
But it’s never too much
She trusted Luke, especially in the bedroom. He was caring and loving while they had sex. Although, they had unwritten rule that if he’s angry, he can use her. He was always giving her heads up so she wouldn’t be surprised. The minute he stepped back into their apartment, he was all over her.
She loved this side of him. She knew Luke would never hurt her, so she was letting him to have his way with her. Most of the times, he was deepthroating her and fucking in doggy style. When she felt freaky, she was acting like a brat just to see how it’s gonna end up for her. Luke wasn’t into punishment but when she was getting on his nerves, he would spank her.
After he was done with her, his priority was aftercare. He knew how important it is to show her love and respect, after he fucked her like a whore. He was always helping her in the shower and feed her so she could get back in strength. Later, he was cuddling her in their bed and whispering sweet words thanking her for this.
All day, all night
You’re on my mind
Since she and Luke started dating, they’ve been all the thinking about each other. Back in Michigan, when the lectures were boring, they’ve been daydreaming about what another one is currently doing. He was bad texter but on her message, he was responding immediately saying that he was about to call her.
When they were forced to live for a year in different states, they had been all the time thinking about each other. She was wondering how’s Luke doing in new environment, how his life looks like and how does he feels living with his brother. He was reasoning about her classes and exams, how she’s feeling being there by herself and if she’s still wearing his clothes all day.
After her graduation, she finally moved to New Jersey, and they rented an apartment. Living together hasn’t stopped them about thinking about each other. If she was working, Luke was thinking what’s going through her head. When he was watching hockey games, she was wondering which part of the match he’s currently analyzing.
All their thoughts were spiraling about each other. She could never get bored of thinking about Luke and Luke could never get bored of thinking about her.
You got me down bad, oh you must be a man
Written by a woman
She knew she fell hard for her when all her future was going around his career. When Luke went to New Jersey, she wanted to go with him. How much he loved this idea, he knew that her education is more important. He was the one to force her to graduate university because she was ready to pack her whole life and go after him.
When she finally ended up college, she moved to New Jersey. She had better work options in Michigan, but she wanted to be closer to him. Luke felt bad that she’s sacrificing her career for him but at the same time, he was grateful to have her by his side. They were made for each other.
Luke knew she’s the one and despite their young age, he decided to propose to her. He saw a future with her and that’s all what matter for them.

THE PRINCE OF WALES HAS GIVEN AN INTERVIEW AT THE END OF HIS OFFICIAL VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA.
During the candid and emotional interview he admitted how the past few months had been ‘brutal’ due to the health scares The Princess of Wales and King Charles went through :
‘Honestly? It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult. But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.’
Speaking about the Princess of Wales he said that :
‘She’s doing well. Doing well.’
Speaking about what it meant to host the awards in Africa, a continent he connects very deeply to as he spent time there following his mother's passing and it is the place he proposed to The Princess of Wales as well, he said :
'Hearing the Circle of Life. I don’t know about everyone else, but hearing the Lion King and things like that gets me quite emotional, So, when they started singing and I saw the clips from the top of Table Mountain and we were all there and it’s happened. I did feel quite emotional.'
He then spoke about his children watching the awards saying :
'I don’t know yet. I haven’t clocked in with them yet but I hope they did.'
William added of his relaxed demeanour in Cape Town this week :
'It’s interesting you say that ’cause I couldn’t be less relaxed this year, so it’s very interesting you’re all seeing that. But it’s more a case of just crack on and you’ve got to keep going. I enjoy my work and I enjoy pacing myself and keeping sure I have got time for my family too.'
He also spoke about his family's opinions on his beard :
'Well Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears the first time I grew a beard, so I had to shave it off. And then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second and I convinced her it was going to be okay'
He also spoke about his new role as the Prince of Wales and how he intends to 'royal' in a different way than his grandmother and father before him :
‘You mention the added responsibility and the freedom in the same sentence,’ he laughed. It’s a tricky one. Do I like more responsibility? No. Do I like the freedom that I can build something like Earthshot then yes. And that’s the future for me. It’s very important with my role and my platform, that I’m doing something for good. That I’m helping people’s lives and I’m doing something that is genuinely meaningful.’
William spoke about the BTS work that goes into setting up huge events like Earthshot successfully :
‘So, the Earthshot is a culmination if you like of all that put together. But it takes a lot of work, and there’s a lot of unseen stuff that goes on, a lot of meetings, a lot of people coming in, a lot of chatting and phone calls, letters, all trying to sort of make the Earthshot get to being the best possible entity it can be'
He talked about his frustrations over reluctance as well as more involvement from buisness & governments saying :
‘I’d like it to be more a team sport. And so, when you go and approach people...business...or even government...and say, listen, we’re building this incredible thing. Please come on board. Some people are extremely fast and keen to it. Others take a little bit longer and it’s those people who take a little bit longer, I’m like, guys, we just don’t have the time.'
'So, yes, I get a bit frustrated that it takes a long time to convince people that this is worthy of their attention. But I guess that’s the nature of a global environment prize, you start from scratch and it’s going to take a bit of time.'
On his hope for the solutions & the impact and his message to those who can invest, he said :
'So you guys have seen for yourselves the scale of the solutions. I mean, they cover all sectors in all walks of life. Brilliant people, some barely started, some been a bit more established and have a bit more money. But overall all doing fantastic work in the same direction. I think the key thing for us is how do we translate that into more impact, more scale, and ultimately, greater progress in tackling environmental challenges.’
On his hope for more involvement, ‘I definitely think so. We’re giving this amazing platform to all of them. And really it’s an amazing platform for business to come in and poach what they want. But if we keep waiting....we’re going to keep eating into time that we just don’t have. And so my message to business really is: hurry up and be courageous. Invest faster because we just don’t have that time.’

MEN AND MINORS DNI
Tumblr media
being a sex worker always had its ups and downs, a mix of excitement and danger. you never truly knew who you’re meeting, but that’s not always a bad thing, sometimes they teach you things about yourself you wouldn’t of known otherwise.
you’ve learned to read faces, to sense who might become a friend and who might be trouble. it’s a skill you’ve almost perfected over time, but even so, there’s always a hint of uncertainty.
tonight was no different, waiting for the next call or text from one of your usuals, or your manager coming in saying you have one more job for the night. as you began to relax, your phone vibrates on the table beside you, breaking the late night stillness. you pick it up, raising an eyebrow at the unknown number.
“uh hello?” you spoke, sitting up from your position on your bed.
“is this y/n?” it was a woman’s voice, not your usually customer but the way her voice sounded… you were intrigued.
“mhm, this is her. who’s calling?”
“hi, y/n. i’m sophia. i got your number from your manager.” her tone was smooth, almost like honey, and it set off a flutter of curiosity in your stomach.
“okay… and how do you know my manager?” you asked, playing with your nails.
“well… she’s a friend of mine. i’ve seen you around… and darling, you caught my eye.” she replied, a hint of mischief in her voice. “i’m willing to pay more than your usual rates. quite a bit more, actually.”
you felt a rush of adrenaline. this was not typical at all. “how much are we talking?”
“i’ll offer you double what you normally make. it’s just tonight, and if you impress me, there could be more work in the future.”
you hesitated. “and what exactly would you need me to do?”
sophia chuckled softly. “relax, baby. it’s nothing you can’t handle. i’ll send you the address to a hotel where you can meet me. ask for ‘ms. l’ at the desk when you arrive.”
“how do i know you aren’t some psycho murderer?” you said, sarcasm evident in your voice.
sophia’s laughter was soft, sending a shiver down your spine. “oh, honey, I assure you, i’m not a murderer. but i do hope you won’t speak to me like that when we meet.”
“and why is that?” you spoke, a little brattier than you’d meant.
“because, darling, i have very particular tastes. i appreciate confidence, but there's a fine line between bravado and disrespect. when we meet, i expect you to know your place.”
you raised an eyebrow at this. you’ve been involved in some… interesting explorations of sex, but something about this woman, how she’s speaking to you… you can’t help but squeeze your thighs together.
“y/n, you still there, baby?”
“uh-uh yes, just uh…” you took a deep breath, hearing sophia breathily chuckle at you. “send me the address. i’ll be there as soon as i can.”
the hotel was just a short ride away. you stepped inside the lobby, the air just smelled expensive, with the scent of polished wood and faint perfume. as instructed, you approached the desk and asked for ‘ms. l.’
the receptionist gave you a knowing look and handed you a key with a room number.
“elevator's just over there.” she said, motioning toward the back of the lobby.
taking a deep breath, you made your way to the elevator. the doors slid shut, and the ride up felt like forever.
as you reached the correct floor and stepped out, you found the room. just outside the door, you hesitated for a moment, heart racing. a quick knock, and you waited.
the door opened slowly, revealing a woman with an air of elegance that caught you off guard. she smiled, and it felt warm and inviting, a sharp contrast to the tension humming in the air.
she had jet black hair, and plump red lips. her eyes had a glint in them you couldn’t quite read. she had a black silk robe on and you let yourself imagine what she did or didn’t have on underneath it.
“y/n, i presume?”
“uh huh…” you spoke slowly, still staring at the gorgeous woman in front of you. she laughed and turned, walking back inside as you followed her.
the room was dimly lit, the soft glow from the lamps casting shadowy patterns on the carpet.
“welcome, darling.” she said, her voice smooth and sultry. you couldn't help but feel slightly intimidated by her presence. “close the door behind you.”
you obeyed instinctively, the click of the latch echoing in the silence. she watched you, her gaze fierce but far from judgmental. it was a look that made your skin prickle.
you follow sophia into the dining room, your eyes scanning the ornate ceiling and the frames of the paintings lining the walls. “make yourself comfortable, baby. would you like a drink?” you decline with a shake of your head, taking a seat and crossing your legs.
sophia squints her eyes. “use your words, don’t be rude.”
you furrow your eyebrows, locking eye contact with her. “i’m fine, thanks.” you reply, leaning back and surveying the room.
“watch your attitude.” her face was dead serious, almost scary. you felt small, as if she was a teacher talking down to you.
“what attitude?” sophia’s jaw locks, and she walks over to you, agonizingly slow. you start getting nervous, your palms sweating.
she stands right in front of your chair, gazing down at you, her eyes burning. you try to keep eye contact but you turn your head.
she grabs you roughly by the chin, snapping you back to face her.
“what the fuck?” you exclaim, standing from your chair and taking a step towards her. your attempt to be intimidating was laughed off as sophia wraps her arms around your hips, pushing you aggressively against the dining table.
her grip on you tightened as she spoke. “and watch your mouth too.”
you scoff. “you can’t tell me what to do.”
“do you have fun being so bratty?”
“do you not know how to have fun?”
sophia’s grip tightened for a moment before she eased back, her fingers tracing a line along your arm as she stepped even closer, her smile as knowing as it was dangerous.
"oh, I know how to have fun, baby." she replied, her voice a seductive purr. her hands travelled down your body, sending goosebumps all around you. they wrapped around your thighs, sitting you on top of the table.
you can’t deny the way she effortlessly lifted you up turned you on.
her face was right in front of yours, your eyes darting between her eyes and lips as you felt her hand slip under your short skirt.
“i want you to remember this moment, okay y/n?” her breath was hot against your lips, your whole body heating up at her actions and words. she cupped your cheek and smirked. "you look so scared, darling."
you stayed silent, focusing on the way her hands felt on your body, from your face to your neck, squeezing the base, moving lower towards your hips, and finally resting back on your thighs. "sh-should i be?" your untouchable facade was slowly coming undone, and she knew.
she slid her hands toward your knees, spreading them as she got closer. you could feel yourself dripping onto the table, not bothering to even slide panties on before you left the house. her hands were soft against your skin, travelling farther and farther until she reached your folds, toying with them as you whined in her ear.
"no panties huh?" she teased, sliding her middle finger up your slit, making you shudder and let a loud sigh out. "what? you getting bored?"
"n-no just..." you took a breath. "you're teasing.."
sophia's face shifted into a mocking expression, how annoying. "i thought that's what we were doing, baby? you love teasing." her finger dipped slightly into you and you gripped the table.
"fuck..."
"language." her finger pushed deeper, sliding against your walls and making you shiver, letting out the quietest whines only she could hear.
her finger stilled. "how many times have i told you, don't be rude. say please, honey. use your manners." you locked eyes with her once more, having a silent staring contest until she started pulling out and you panicked.
"n-no sorry... more please, sophia."
"good girl." her hand returns, this time with two fingers instead of one. you cried out, your hips arching up to meet her touch.
sophia's fingers plunged deeper into you, her movements deliberate. you could feel the pressure building within you, your breaths coming out in shallow gasps. her other hand reached up to pinch one of your nipples through your blouse, making you arch your back .
"that's it." she murmured, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "you done being a brat?"
you bit your lip, trying to maintain some semblance of control, but her relentless pace and the way she was looking at you, like she owned you, was pushing you closer to the edge. "fuck, fuck, yes." you whispered, your voice barely audible.
she increased the speed of her thrusts, her fingers exploring every inch of you. you could feel yourself getting closer and closer as she stretched you out, your body tensing. you felt sweat coating your back and her palm made contact with your clit, subtly rubbing it each time her fingers re-entered your core. just as you thought you were about to come, she pulled her fingers out.
"what did i tell you about your language?" she scoffed, pulling her hand away from you completely.
"n-no, no, please sophia please!" you grabbed her wrist. "please..." she gave you a disapproving look, before a wicked smile crossed her face.
"open your mouth." you shuddered at the sudden low tone but did as you were told. her hand came into view as she slid her fingers around on your lips, smearing the wetness around your mouth before plunging her fingers inside and making you taste yourself. "now you really have a dirty mouth, darling."

"Trog" kay
And it's not treating people differently, it's understanding that there are structural differences that need different approaches in terms of advocacy.
And yes, emotional labor does refer to workers in the service industry, but it also refers to the labor women do. This is something that sociologists and feminists have discussed at length for decades. The household division of responsibilities is such feminism 101 that I do find it hard to believe that you weren't intentionally misinterpreting what the tweet was saying. Women are expected to remember important dates, keep up the calendars, keep track of the schedules of everyone in the household, and manage any conflicts. This tweet is pointing out how the oop's husband would not even remember his own niece's birthday if she were not the one to remind him. It is pointing out how she is expected to plan for any family gatherings as her husband expects her to handle all familiar scheduling, regardless of if she herself works a full time job as well. It is about the unequal division of household labor
I do have to wonder how you are a liberal if you reject concepts of modern liberalism /gen. Do you mean you are exclusively an economic liberal? are you saying traditional liberalism? I just don't understand how you can be a liberal if you disagree with basic concepts of racial analysis or feminism unless you mean you are specifically a liberal in terms of economic policy. (I'll continue to "flash articles" even if you don't read them as my mooties might appreciate them. some of these sources are older as I want to highlight that emotional labor in relationships has been a focus of feminist analysis for decades).
I will note that in feminist sociological theory, what the above tweet is referring to is not actually emotional labor, but an analysis of power within male-female relationships. The underlying concept has validity.
Simone de Beauvoir's book The Second Sex is mandatory reading for understanding most later feminist topics and contains a solid introduction to male-female romantic and sexual relationships.
Bell Hooks' book Feminist Theory from Margin to Center is also pretty essential reading which, again, introduces ideas regarding household divisions of labor.
Feminist theory during the second wave in particular focused on heterosexuality as an institution and how heterosexual relationships recreated the patriarchy on a micro- scale in the home. Its these concepts which the tweet is tapping into. A brief overview can be read here https://www.jstor.org/stable/40231680?seq=2
this article actually has the writer define a term for what we are discussing, hermeneutic labor, as a type of emotional labor but its interesting https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/hypatia/article/hermeneutic-labor-the-gendered-burden-of-interpretation-in-intimate-relationships-between-women-and-men/626426004DF2A4908D793B87C3148593

It seems a lot of people are looking for a distraction right now so here's me trying to do my part. I don't have a name for this WIP yet but I have posted a few other scenes from this WIP already (this post and this post ).
Buck packed their bags while Tommy called the San Francisco Police Department's number on the business card that had been left. He learned that his sister, Cassandra and brother-in-law, Marcus were hit by a drunk driver who’d run a red light at a high speed. San Francisco PD explained they hadn’t been able to locate Avery (Tommy's niece) but that they’d sent officers to notify Dylan (Tommy's nephew), and Marcus’ best friend and secondary emergency contact after Cassandra.
Tommy and Buck took Tommy’s truck, yet Buck was driving. Tommy wasn’t in the right headspace for it and had calls to make anyway. He started with Dylan.
“Uncle Tommy,” Dylan sounded relieved as he answered the phone. “Did you hear-”
“Yeah, D, I- I heard.” Tommy confirmed.
“I haven’t been able to get a hold of Avery,” Dylan started.
“I did, sort of. She’s sleeping hard at a friend’s after a softball game. I spoke with the friend’s mom, they’ll keep her there until I can get to San Fran.” Tommy explained. “She doesn’t know yet, I figure it’ll be better coming from one of us.”
“I’m trying to find a flight but they’re freaking expensive, why are all these damn flights so freaking expensive?” Dylan huffed, he sounded like he was spiraling and on the verge of tears.
“Hey, hey- just take a breath.” Tommy instructed. Dylan had a lot to worry about right now, but not having money for a flight was not one of them. Tommy hadn't expected Dylan to have that kind of cash just laying around being a university student. “I’ll send you some money, just get the first flight you can, okay?”
“Okay.” Dylan let out a shaky breath. “You on your way to San Fran now?”
Tommy put the phone on speaker so he could send Dylan the money. “Yeah, yeah I am. I’m sending the money now. Send me your flight details as soon as you have them, okay?”
“Yeah, I will.”
Tommy didn’t talk with Dylan much longer, as Dylan needed to pack a bag and get to the airport.
“He’s probably so scared.” Buck frowned. He knew this was hard on Tommy but he had to imagine it was much, much harder for Dylan.
“No doubt.” Tommy agreed.
“Should- do you think someone’s contacted your father?” Buck asked as carefully as he could. He knew Thomas Kinard Sr was not a great father or grandfather to say the least, but he still should be made aware of what was happening.
“I’ll call him later. Him knowing now or later won't make any difference and he’s probably asleep right now and if someone wakes him up he’ll still be drunk and he’ll be pissed. Noon will probably be the best time to call, he’ll be awake and he’ll have a drink or two in him, but he won’t be shitfaced yet.”
Buck just nodded in understanding, and kept his focus on driving.
The timing worked out that it made the most sense to pick up Dylan from the airport before going to collect Avery. Buck and Tommy waited for him at his arrival gate, and soon he approached them. Dylan was about lanky, about 5’10, with short curly reddish brown hair, blue eyes, and freckles. He looked exhausted and lost as he silently approached his uncle and hugged him tightly.
“I got you.” Tommy told Dylan as he wrapped his arms around his nephew and held him close.
Eventually Dylan pulled away. “Hi Buck.” he said politely, then looked at Tommy. “Still gotta get Avery, right?” He guessed.
“Yeah.” Tommy confirmed. “We should get going.”
Tommy drove them from the airport to Avery’s friend’s house and soon they were parked in front of the house.
“She’s gonna know something is wrong the moment she sees either one of us.” Dylan pointed out. “I should be in Intro to Algorithms right now and you should be, doing whatever you’d be going at eleven in the morning on a Tuesday.”
“I know.” Tommy sighed. “I’m gonna go up to the door and get her, then once she’s in the truck we- we’ll break the news.” He told Dylan, then got out and went up to the house. He rang the bell and patiently waited.
Soon the door was answered by a middle aged woman who must’ve been Madison’s mom. “You must be Avery’s uncle.”
“Yes.” Tommy nodded.
The woman nodded. “I’ll grab her, she’s ready to go.” She promised and disappeared further into the house.
After a moment Avery came into view. Avery was 5’6 with an athletic build, and the same reddish brown colored hair as her brother, though her hair didn’t have the same curl her brother’s did. She had the same blue eyes as him though, and more freckles than Dylan. “Uncle Tommy?” She frowned. “What are you doing here?”
“I’ll explain in a moment. We should get going, there’s some people waiting in the car.”
“Okay.” Avery said slowly. She turned to her friend and said goodbye, grabbed her bag, and followed Tommy out to his truck. She opened the back passenger side door and saw her brother. “Dylan?”
“Hey Aves.” Dylan tried to sound upbeat but didn’t quite hit the mark.
“You look like shit.” Avery told her brother as she handed him her bag and climbed into the truck.
“Thanks.” Dylan said sarcastically as he shoved her bag on the floor between their feet.
“Okay, now will someone tell me what is going on? Where’s mum and dad?”
“Avery, they um,” Dylan started, but was having a hard time continuing.
“There was an accident last night. They were hit by a drunk driver.” Tommy continued.
“No. No you’re lying.” Avery shook her head.
“They’re gone, Avery. They didn’t make it.” Dylan explained.
“And you guys kept it from me?” Avery seemed upset by this.
“Was I supposed to send a text, hey Aves we’re orphans now?” Dylan asked incredulously.
“You should’ve told me! You kept it from me for- well long enough for the two of you to get here.” Avery argued.
“We wanted to be with you, when you found out.” Tommy explained calmly.
“This isn’t happening.” Avery muttered and put her head in her hands.
Tommy looked helplessly at Dylan, then at Evan.
All Buck could do was take Tommy’s hand and try to offer some silent comfort. He had a feeling he’d be doing that a lot the next little while.
If anyone wants to read more lmk I've got a bunch of this story written and I'm happy to share if someone needs something to take their mind off other things for a little bit

TECH MOMENTS PT. 5
The Bad Batch S1 E1: Aftermath
This one's a doozy, my friends! Enjoy 100+ bullet points and 50+ pics of our favorite clone genius!
Tumblr media
- Running through the droids, putting an explosive on everyone he can get his hands on. ❤
- “Hey, clanker! Catch!” (This was the moment I realized that I like him. My brain did a double take, like: "Wait he's attractive.") ❤
- Kicking a droid for no reason ❤
- Walking off the battlefield like it wasn’t even hard.
- I love the little distracted wave he gives General Billaba. Everything about him is just so endearing to me.
- His voice is a little more deep and raspy than usual while he’s talking about the war ending. Gosh, I’m down so bad for this man.
- He’s the only one who doesn’t have a blaster drawn when they first approach Caleb.
- Tech is one of the ones sent to talk to the regs about what’s going on. Echo makes sense since he’s technically still a reg, too, but why Tech? Because he’s the least likely to cause a problem.
- He’s also the first one to run to talk to the regs. Taking initiative once again.
- Tech: “The regs have been ordered to execute the Jedi.”
Hunter: “What? Which Jedi?”
Tech: “All of them.” The disbelief in his voice is subtle but there.
- This is a glow-up, people (a small one since he was already pretty, but still)! Tech is gorgeous, and no one can tell me otherwise. ❤
- I love his tiny smile when he finishes explaining how long they’ve been gone.
- The disappointed look on his face when Wrecker doesn’t understand his explanation of how long they’ve been away from Kamino.
- He has the smallest smile on his face when he hears that General Grevious has been defeated.
- “Just like I said.”
- He looks so done when Wrecker punches him.
- When the clones pass by with the body of a Jedi, it’s Tech Hunter shares a look with.
- “Excuse me, trooper, what division are you from?” *gets shoved aside* “Oh. Well, they seem the same to me.” ❤
- He immediately starts working on something once he gets back to their barracks.
Tumblr media
- All the formulas and calculations on his bunk wall… a result of his sleepless nights, I’m sure.
- I love the curious look he gives Crosshair when he says they didn’t complete every objective.
- “And my exceptional mind.” I love him an unhealthy amount.
- “My guess is we are immune to the effects of the programming.” *looks at Crosshair* “Though I can’t be one hundred percent certain of it.” He looks so. Kriffing. GORGEOUS.
- “You are more machine than man. Percentage-wise, at least.” His little reassurance to Echo at the end.
- Hunter: “This is one meeting I don’t want to miss.”
Tech: “First time for everything.”
- The way he’s just looking at his datapad throughout the meeting.
- Stepping out of line to ask Hunter what’s wrong. First of all, noticing something’s up with him. And second, it takes some serious courage to break formation like that during such an important briefing while all your superiors can clearly see you.
- “Still don’t think the regs are programmed?”
- Crosshair: “Republic, Empire, what’s the difference?”
Tech: “The systematic termination of the Jedi is a big one for me.” ❤
- “Adolescent human female. Origins... uncertain.”
- Tech’s mouth quirks up in a tiny smile when Omega says she was wondering when they’d come back. He already likes her.
- His look of surprise when he realizes Omega knows his name.
- The way he stares after Omega in wonder. ❤
- There’s this split second (right after Hunter says "everyone's talking about it) where it looks like he’s looking directly into the camera, and it’s just like, “Well hello there, sir.”
- “Hopefully not mental. Clearly, we’d never pass that.” It's okay, I'm not neurotypical either, babe.
- Leaning around Hunter to see Omega.
- “You want to sit with us? That’s never happened before.”
- He can’t stop grinning at Omega after she says she likes him and his team for not fitting in. ❤
Tumblr media
- I love the way his expression shifts when Hunter asks where Omega’s family is. Like, "that's actually a really good point."
- The way his face instantly drops when the regs make a jab at them. At Omega. He’s used to being pushed around, but he’s not pleased to see this precious girl being mocked.
- I love the way he’s all squared up in the background of this fight.
- Calling out a warning to Echo and then running over to the clone who knocks him out. It doesn’t show it, but Tech definitely threw a punch at the guy for hurting his best friend. ❤
- “We’re more deviant than we are defective.”
- “Then we are not being reprimanded?” He’s so used to getting in trouble.
- His eye roll when Wrecker charges into battle without thinking. I thank God every day that we can always see his eyes with those goggles. ❤
- He’s not at all phased by passing through live rounds to get to Wrecker. He’d gladly walk through fire for the people he loves.
- “Wrecker, are you alright?”
- That little head shake when Hunter signals a plan to him. Like he doesn’t think it will work, but he knows they have no other option.
- Wrecker: “Aw, I hate hand signals!”
Tech: “Perhaps if you memorized them?”
Wrecker: “Why don’t you memorize them?”
Tech: “I have.”
- They’re in the middle of a battle, but he’s sitting against those barriers so casually.
- The way he stops Wrecker from crushing the droid.
- Reprogramming the droid, then choosing to ride on its shoulders like a legend. (Note that it looks like he’s the only one to specifically get an impressed reaction out of Tarkin with his performance in this simulation) ❤
- Can I also just say how impressive that was? He completely reprogrammed a hostile droid to follow his commands while under heavy fire. In less than a minute. What a man, what a legend.
- “Wrecker. Look alive.” I feel like he has the capacity to lead, he just doesn’t want to.
- Reaches out to Wrecker (who calls him buddy). “I’m -” *flops down* “not going anywhere.” ❤
- I love the way he takes a deep breath and straightens his posture for a second after Echo and Wrecker help him up.
- “There’s a fundamental difference between taking fire in battle and being used as target practice.” I love how upset he is about this. Also, he’s also backing up Wrecker’s feelings with his own here.
Tumblr media
- None of the others make eye contact with Tarkin when he’s examining them. Tech does and practically glares at him. ❤
- I love his expression shift when Tarkin says the insurgents are Separatists. I can’t place the expression, but I love it. It’s almost like “Come on, I thought the war was over. Oh well.”
- I love his little disappointed look when Echo says he can’t crack the files. And then how he immediately offers to help.
- “That’s not going near my rack. I refuse to sleep by a projectile again.” AGAIN?!
- Tech comes right behind Hunter to exit the ship (and then leads them for a significant portion of their walk). Possibly symbolizing his position within the squad.
- Echo: “What was that?”
Tech: “You don’t want to know.” 😑
- “Easy, Wrecker. Your programming’s kicking in.” I legit laughed out loud at this when I first watched the show. ❤
- His datapad lighting up his eyes makes him look so beautiful.
- Hunter always relies on him.
- The way he instantly senses that something’s wrong when he can’t see any droids in the camp.
- “There aren’t any droids, Wrecker.” You can tell that he’s starting to get a little agitated about this situation.
- Defending both sides when others choose one.
- Tech is the first one to ease up and stand down. Almost the second he hears Hunter start talking, like he knew he was going to tell them to back off. (And his eyes look stunning in that shot when he does. They immediately soften and become non-threatening.) You can just tell how much he and Hunter respect and trust each other. ❤
- He looks so pretty in this warm light of the camp. Who am I kidding, he looks good in every lighting.
- Geeking out over Saw. (And Saw is absolutely staring him down as he does. Like, they’re having a staring contest until he’s handed a weapon to examine. I don’t like that foreshadowing.)
- I also love the look on his face when Cross says “Is that a request?” I just always love his expressions.
- The way he leans forward with the tiniest hint of concern when Saw tells them to look at the insurgents they were sent to destroy. Anyone who says Tech is emotionless hasn’t been paying attention to him at all.
- His offended look when Saw said he thought he was the smart one.
- He is absolutely GORGEOUS in that shot where Crosshair says that the war is over. He’s literally flawless, and he’s perfect.
Tumblr media
- “At least with the Republic, we knew where we stood. Tarkin and this Empire are a whole different story.”
- He literally jerks back in surprise when Cross says that Hunter isn’t fit to lead their squad.
- The concerned and confused look on his face when Hunter brings up Omega.
- “I would not discount Omega’s insight. A state of heightened awareness is not unusual for an enhanced clone such as herself.” Standing up for Omega before he knows her that well. ❤
- “When Nala Se spoke of five clones, Tarkin assumed that meant us, but Echo’s a reg. The fifth is Omega.”
- “Well, I thought it was obvious.” Leans against the doorframe like he couldn’t care less. ❤
- That glare when Crosshair suggests leaving Omega on Kamino.
- His little breath before saying “this is unusual” just makes him feel so alive to me.
- I love how he’s constantly glancing over and making eye contact with Crosshair. These two were so close.
- HIS BLACKS. TECH IN HIS BLACKS. Hallelujah for this scene. We wouldn’t be nearly as familiar with everyone's body types without it. Gorgeous man. Everyone likes to talk about Hunter's tiny waist, but Tech's is just as snatched.
- “Well, the mission wasn’t a total failure.” Of course he’s the first one to notice Omega. ❤
- His face is so warm and happy when he sees Omega. And then he immediately shifts to unamused at Crosshair’s complaint. ❤
- He shoots another tiny smile Omega’s way when Hunter says they were looking for her.
- “I never thought you disobeying orders was a problem.” Facts, love.
- Crosshair never directs his anger at Tech. It’s always at the others. Even if Tech does say something he doesn’t like, he doesn’t get mad until someone else expounds upon it, and then he snaps at them. Cross clearly has a favorite here.
- Cross starts shaking his head with clear distress and frustration when Wrecker says that they disobey orders all the time, and you can see that Tech notices it. He tilts his head and frowns a little bit. ❤
- The concerned look he and Echo exchange when Crosshair starts to confront Hunter again.
- He looks freaked out when the guards hit Hunter.
- Reaching out for Crosshair when they take him away. That broke my heart when I first noticed it. ❤
Tumblr media
- The way he bounces his leg when he’s thinking hard. ❤
- “I’ve got it! Why didn’t I think of it before?”
- He talks with his hands. ❤
- Covering his mouth when Wrecker talks too loud.
- Running his fingers over the wall to see where the weak point is. ❤
- The confusion and worry on his face when Wrecker says it still didn’t work. Gorgeous, gorgeous.
- The way he glances over at Hunter (or probably the guards) before going over to help Wrecker. Ugh, he’s literally perfect.
- “Oh, yes it did.” ❤
- Bending a metal panel with his bare hands like it’s nothing. My man is strong! I love how he doesn’t follow the trope of the nerdy character being weak.
- Wrecker: “I’ll never fit through that!”
Tech shakes his head. “Astute as always, Wrecker.”
- I love the way he rolls his eyes and facepalms when Wrecker blows their cover.
- Grabbing a blaster and stunning the last conscious guard. He shoots twice, just to be sure, and carries the blaster. He’s such a boss.
- Turning to confirm the guards aren’t dead (or going to follow them) before leaving the brig.
- Tech looks so cute when he tells Wrecker to hold still.
- I love how Tech serves as the unofficial medic (with Echo’s help, of course).
- Omega: “I guess I got lucky.”
Tech: “She's not the only one.” *gestures to Wrecker without looking up* ❤
- "What's the plan, Hunter?"
- Omega: “What about your friends? Could any of them help us?”
Tech: “That would be a short list.”
- The way he leans in and smiles so brightly when Omega asks that question.
- His smile when Hunter tells him to plot a course for J-19. ❤
- I love the way he shakes his head with clear affection when Wrecker cheers this time.

I’m a biology student and fuck. Just fuck. Every post I see talks about the world ending and all life coming to an end. I know that’s not the case (I hope) but just…god. Kamala was gonna be shit with the environment but trump seems keen on speed running the time we have to put a dent in this. How do you stay hopeful? What do we have to hope for?
Hi there fellow biologist :)
First let me just say, Kamala Harris most certainly would not have been shit with the environment. She would have done quite a lot to work on climate change (she has not emphasized this at rallies because it was not a priority issue with voters, but her policies were there, and democrats consistently are progressive on environmental policy enough to make corporations angry), and Biden during his presidency has accomplished a heck of a lot to undo Trump's previous weakening of federal environmental protections and strengthen them further. My hope is that they together will continue to try and pass what they can in their remaining months. I hope in my previous posts I was not coming off as too cynical - I'm scared, as we all are, but I have great faith in the passionate and hardworking scientists in this field who have dedicated their entire lives to tirelessly protecting our planet, at all scales. We just need more of them, and that's where you come in.
How do I stay hopeful? Because of people like you, students in the biological sciences who feel strongly enough to take this career path. The next generation of environmental stewards, in a time where scientists are exponentially more knowledgeable about threats to the environment and solutions to them than ever before. Especially now, these fields are shifting from old white guys (no shade to [most of] them) to young women, people of color, and queer people in STEM, who are eager to bring new perspectives and approaches to the field that I think will bolster our resolve and increase our success.
Despite the doom and gloom, we also have made incredible strides forward to improve clean air and water, restore habitat (particularly wetlands, reversing decades-long trends of waterbird declines, as well as reversing raptor declines), ban DDT, track species declines through long-term monitoring by generations of dedicated scientists, train more effective science communicators to engage people of all ages, especially children, with the natural world to forge crucial emotional connections needed to recruit them to conservation causes, and so much more. Here's a big one - MOTUS, the system we now use to track migrating birds on their worldwide journeys, developed just in the past couple decades. Because of it, we now know in incredible detail where individual birds and populations overwinter, the routes they take, and the threats they face at different times of year - thereby being able to much more effectively target our conservation efforts. Shifting baselines work in both directions; it's easy to forget within a generation or two how much we've lost (atlantic cod used to be so abundant they jumped into fishermen's boats, passenger pigeon flocks darkened the skies for hours), but it's also easy for young people to not know how much we've gained - bald eagles used to be so rare it was a spectacle to see one, the rivers just half a century ago would literally catch on fire from the levels of pollutants, and acid rain - remember acid rain? we fixed that!) In my field specifically, we've been rediscovering once-thought-extinct bee species left and right in the past few years, because dedicated young bee researchers have put in renewed effort to search for them when no one else did. Now we know where they are and how to protect them, and some of them aren't even considered rare anymore!
You more likely than not have a professor for some class who's pushing 80. That's because in this field, we never quit. Protecting the environment is our passion, our lives, our heart and soul. It's our calling, and we couldn't think of doing anything more important with the time we have on this earth. Every stride forward we've made only happened because individual scientists, regular people, cared enough to fight for what they believed in. Often it's a slow process, and often we don't truly grasp the scope of what our own work will lead to in the grand scheme of making change. But every species out there that's still persisting is because someone loves it a whole lot. Maybe a lot of people love elephants or big cats, while just one single person loves terrestrial leeches. But heck, it only takes one person to completely change the trajectory of a species and bring widespread public attention to it! I love telling people about bee species they've never heard of, that exist right in their own state. They might go home, google it, and keep an eye out for it next time, or better, plant the flowers it specializes on. I put a call out on iNaturalist for users in my state to search wetlands for a rare wetland bee with only a couple of records in the state - within a couple months, half a dozen more sightings popped up. Just like that. The bee was considered rare, but no one was looking. They had no idea there was anything to look for. Now? Not so rare, maybe - a good sign!
I stay hopeful because I know that the planet needs us, and we need the planet. The people who love nature will never stop fighting to protect it, and every single action does make a difference, whether we know it or not. I could ask myself why I give talks at public libraries where my audience is 10 people at best, even when the drive is 6+ hours. Because one, just one, of those people might be inspired or moved by my words, and choose to take action. For all I know, I've started a domino effect that will cascade into something huge. I worked with and briefly mentored an undergraduate student in bee science a few years ago - he's since gone on to work on a huge project to digitize bee specimens locked away in dusty drawers for decades, bringing to light dozens of species for which we previously had little to no information or images, improving the resources available to other researchers to identify their specimens and thus be able to monitor these rare, specialized desert bees. You can't know the impact you'll have. You just have to do the work, and always give all you can, and love doing it.
Some might think it's too little too late - but that's relative. There's no such thing as the apocalypse. Nature continues on, in whatever form it needs to. In a way, we've decided what our benchmark is; prevent the loss of biodiversity, preserve ecosystem services. But the natural world has already changed, since the moment any human stepped foot onto a new continent or island and brought plants and animals with them. We put value on species, on ecosystems, because we love them. We think they are beautiful, that they have intrinsic or extrinsic value, and that they deserve a continued place in this world. We have lost species, and we will lose a lot more. But isn't preventing even one extinction worth it? We fight tirelessly to manage the spread of invasive species, to restore even little patches of urban habitat, when someone could look at those and say, 'what's that point? that won't make any difference.' But tell that to the species that live there. The planet keeps running because of small, local changes carried out by thousands of people, and a handful of big changes (like policy) undertaken by a few ballsy folks. Neither would work without the other. Every time I get my hands in the dirt and plant a new species in my pollinator garden, it gives me hope. I'm investing in the future. By being here, studying biology, you are too. It all gives me hope.

He definitely approaches them differently, and this was a really good rundown of the differences and was interesting to read.
(Sidenote regarding the Horcruxes — he did hide them from Snape, since he never actually tells him about it, hiding why he stole the ring and put it on when Snape was healing it)
I would say that with Harry his intentions are different from Snape. he needs Snape as an obedient soldier, and he needs Harry to be able to understand Dumbledore's hints and way of thinking. In the aforementioned scene and throughout book 6, Dumbledore is constantly railroading Harry to figure out the answers on his own because that's what he needs from him. He's kinda been doing it for years by this point, it's part of how he consistently interacts with Harry. He asks questions to get Harry to figure things out for himself because, unlike Snape, Dumbledore needs Harry to think and feel confident in the plan Dumbledore puts forward, and he would be if he figured it out logically too. (Dumbledore is definitely softer with Harry than with most other characters, and as I said, I think he does care, just, less than it might seem since he doesn't seem to know Harry all that well. Like, he just knows certain aspects of him).
The situations and what he needs from these two are different, I just thought it's interesting how he uses guilt and grief to manipulate both Harry and Snape, even if the words he says to do so are a little different, it just surprised me how similar the scenes feel in a way.
Especially with this later scene with Hary from HBP:
“Sirius represented much to you that you had never known before,” said Dumbledore gently. “Naturally, the loss is devastating. . . .” “But while I was at the Dursleys’ . . .” interrupted Harry, his voice growing stronger, “I realized I can’t shut myself away or — or crack up. Sirius wouldn’t have wanted that, would he? And anyway, life’s too short. . . . Look at Madam Bones, look at Emmeline Vance. . . . It could be me next, couldn’t it? But if it is,” he said fiercely, now looking straight into Dumbledore’s blue eyes gleaming in the wandlight, “I’ll make sure I take as many Death Eaters with me as I can, and Voldemort too if I can manage it.” Spoken both like your mother and father’s son and Sirius’s true godson!” said Dumbledore, with an approving pat on Harry’s back.
Dumbledore's talk with Harry after Sirius died got him exactly what he needed — a Harry who is willing to die to take down Voldemort with him. So, yes, the words are warmer, and the results are different, Harry isn't an obedient soldier, but he is ready to become a martyr.
Dumbledore's Manipulations: Part 6(?)
I just reread the scene in Deathly Hallows of Dumbledore and Snape on Snape's memories after Lily died, and that entire scene reminded me of the scene at the end of book 5. After Sirius died and Harry was having his breakdown.
Snape breaking down in front of Dumbledore after Lily dies:
“Her son lives. He has her eyes, precisely her eyes. You remember the shape and color of Lily Evans’s eyes, I am sure?” “DON’T!” bellowed Snape. “Gone. . . dead. . . ” “Is this remorse, Severus?” “I wish. . . I wish I were dead. . . ” “And what use would that be to anyone?” said Dumbledore coldly. “If you loved Lily Evans, if you truly loved her, then your way forward is clear.” Snape seemed to peer through a haze of pain, and Dumbledore’s words appeared to take a long time to reach him. “What—what do you mean?” “You know how and why she died. Make sure it was not in vain. Help me protect Lily’s son.” “He does not need protection. The Dark Lord has gone—” “The Dark Lord will return, and Harry Potter will be in terrible danger when he does.” There was a long pause, and slowly Snape regained control of himself, mastered his own breathing. At last, he said, “Very well. Very well. But never—never tell, Dumbledore! This must be between us! Swear it! I cannot bear. . . especially Potter’s son. . . I want your word!” “My word, Severus, that I shall never reveal the best of you?” Dumbledore sighed, looking down into Snape’s ferocious, anguished face. “If you insist. . . ”
(DH, 573)
Harry breaking down in front of Dumbledore after Sirius dies:
“There is no shame in what you are feeling, Harry,” said Dumbledore’s voice. “On the contrary . . . the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength.” Harry felt the white-hot anger lick his insides, blazing in the terrible emptiness, filling him with the desire to hurt Dumbledore for his calmness and his empty words. “My greatest strength, is it?” said Harry, his voice shaking as he stared out at the Quidditch stadium, no longer seeing it. “You haven’t got a clue. . . . You don’t know . . .” “What don’t I know?” asked Dumbledore calmly. It was too much. Harry turned around, shaking with rage. “I don’t want to talk about how I feel, all right?” “Harry, suffering like this proves you are still a man! This pain is part of being human —” “THEN — I — DON’T — WANT — TO — BE — HUMAN!” [...] “Let me out,” Harry said yet again, in a voice that was cold and almost as calm as Dumbledore’s. “Not until I have had my say,” said Dumbledore. [...] “It meant,” said Dumbledore, “that the person who has the only chance of conquering Lord Voldemort for good was born at the end of July, nearly sixteen years ago. This boy would be born to parents who had already defied Voldemort three times.” Harry felt as though something was closing in upon him. His breathing seemed difficult again. “It means — me?” [...] “I am afraid,” said Dumbledore slowly, looking as though every word cost him a great effort, “that there is no doubt that it is you.”
(OotP, 823)
I just, found these two scenes awfully similar in tone when reading the one in Deathly Hallows last night.
In both Snape/Harry are in emotional turmoil after the most important person to them dies. Both feel like dying (Snape: "I wish I were dead", Hary: "then I don't want to be human"). Both shout at Dumbledore when he speaks all too calmly of things they don't want/need to hear at that moment.
And Dumbledore speaks calmly and coldly to both of them, revealing information he hid from them both (to Snape he tells about Voldemort's immortality, to Harry he tells about the Prophecy) before guilting them through their grief into what he needs them to do.
Now, I'm not exactly blaming him, because, from his position, he needs Snape as a spy and he needs Harry to be willing to do anything to kill Voldemort — to take Voldemort as his responsibility. Dumbledore needs these things to happen to have the best chance of completing his plan to defeat Voldemort.
I just, can't help but note how cold it is. How cold and manipulative Dumbledore can be when he feels he needs to be. Even as he explains his care for Harry as a flaw in his plan, he speaks calmly and simply. And he is right caring about Harry is a flaw, because he always planned for Harry to die. He knew since he saw the scar on Harry's forehead:
“I guessed, fifteen years ago,” said Dumbledore, “when I saw the scar upon your forehead, what it might mean. I guessed that it might be the sign of a connection forged between you and Voldemort.”
(OotP, 826)
And even if I think Dumbledore is honest in that he'd rather Harry wouldn't die, I don't think he cares for him as much as he says he does. In the same way, he's very cold towards Snape even years later when he tells him Harry must die. (I don't think Snape and Dumbledore are actually friends)
Idk, I just read the scene in DH with Snape and it really reminded me of the scene with Harry at the end of OotP.

Too Small To Be Afraid (Chapter 18)
Cover / Master Post / Previous Chapter / Next Chapter (Coming Soon!)
"Hey," Kevin waves when Derrick opens the front door.
"Hey, glad you could make it," my deskmate says. "Where's Brittney?"
"Surprise!" Brittney shouts, popping out of Kevin's shirt pocket. She blows a party horn and throws a handful of confetti into the air.
"Sorry," Kevin says. "She insisted on making an entrance."
Derrick laughs. "That's Brittney for you! I wouldn't have her any other way!"
Derrick stands to the side of the door so Kevin and Brittney can enter the house. Kevin, I notice, has changed into a more casual outfit—jeans and a brown oversized t-shirt. Brittney, on the other hand, is still sporting her school uniform.
"Here," Brittney says, removing her necktie and shoving it into the pocket of the blazer she's holding out along with her bookbag. "Can you hang these up for me, babe?"
Without saying a word, Kevin pinches the green blazer and the bookbag between his fingertips and hangs them beside mine on the coat rack. As I watch him set them in place with one swift motion, I can't help but wonder if he's gotten used to handling human items. Derrick was so surprised at the size of my blazer when he held it, but Kevin seems unphased in comparison.
"Oh, yeah," Kevin says, turning to Derrick. "You said to bring a board game, so we brought Aventerra. There weren't a ton of options at my place."
"That works! Anything different from the usual is great!" Derrick says, taking the box in his hands. "We can only play Deduce and Roam Runner so many times."
Kevin nods. "Also, this is for you," he says, holding up a thin rectangular object. It's wrapped in some kind of shiny paper that's decorated with multicolored stars.
"And this, too!" Brittney exclaims, holding out a human-sized gift wrapped in what looks to be the same paper.
Derrick's eyes widen. "You guys didn't have to get me anything!" He says, holding up his hands.
"Go ahead, take them!" Brittney says. "What are friends for, anyway?"
Derrick laughs, taking the items. "Okay, okay, only if you insist."
I try not to look up at Derrick when he approaches the table to set down the Aventerra box and put the gifts with the others, but something in me gives in and I find myself staring higher and higher until my eyes finally meet his. My insides churn when he flashes a smile at me from above. I turn my eyes to the table's surface in an instant, but the image of him looming over me remains burned into my mind and causes my head to start spinning.
"Kaylin!" Brittney hollers, running from where Kevin set her down on the table and attacking me with a tight hug. "You came!"
"Can't...! Breathe...!" I manage through what little breath has yet to be squeezed out of my lungs by her embrace.
"Oh, sorry!" Brittney says, releasing me. "I'm just super glad you're here, since I wasn't sure if you were really coming! I figured it would be hard for you to show up to a party at a place like this because of your—"
Derrick clears his throat. "Hey, how about we get things started? Do you guys want to play Aventerra?"
Brittney's eyes light up as she smiles. "Yes! I'd love to!"
I hesitate, looking back at Mrs. Drake. She's wiping off the counter with the rag she used to dry dishes, but her eyes are focused on Brittney and I. I spin back around, and my eyes lock onto the table's surface. I try to concentrate on steadying my breathing, but all that manages to escape my lungs are quick, shuddery breaths to go with my trembling. I grab hold of one of my hands and squeeze it tight, trying my hardest to focus on the pressure instead of my rapid heartbeat.
"Kaylin?" Derrick asks.
"Y-yes?" I manage to answer while slowly craning my neck back to look him in the eyes.
"Would you like to play too?"
"Uh, maybe," I say. "But... don't you want to wait for more people to get here first?"
The room grows quiet, and I look around as I wait for a response. Brittney looks to Derrick with sadness in her eyes. Kevin glances away, a hand on his chin. I don't dare look at Mrs. Drake a second time. I take a step back and reluctantly peek up at my deskmate, who seems to be searching for something to say. He smiles.
"Since this is a last-minute sort of thing, it's only going to be the four of us. There aren't a lot of people who would be willing to show up to a party held at the last minute on a Forsday, anyway," Derrick chuckles.
"O-oh," I say, forcing a smile and a laugh.
"Anyway," Derrick says, opening the big, navy blue box labeled Aventerra, "let's begin, shall we?"
"Um," I pipe up, "would this game happen to have any heavy pieces?"
"It's actually really easy for humans to play!" Brittney exclaims, taking me by the hand and pulling me to the center of the game board Derrick just laid down. "It's even got one of these popping things, so we don't have to pick up the dice!"
Brittney stomps on a pedal with her foot, causing a pair of dice contained within a large plastic dome to tumble around with a loud pop. Taken aback by the unexpected noise, I flinch, only to gaze at the device before me in wonder.
"Is it really that easy?" I ask, looking to Brittney as if requesting permission to try rolling the dice myself. When she nods, I give the plastic pedal a gentle tap, and a loud pop fills my ears once again as the dice bounce around in the dome.
"Wow," I whisper, positive this is the first time I've laid eyes on a game like this. "I never thought a perthean board game would be this accessible to humans."
Brittney picks up a red disk the size of a bicycle tire with the words '100 soldiers' written on it. "All we really need to pick up are these tokens and some cards. It's really easy!"
"What do you say, Kaylin?" Derrick asks, crouching down to be eye level with Brittney and I. "Do you want to play?"
I glance over at Brittney, who, with a big smile, nods her head up and down vigorously. Kevin, almost predictably, has already pulled out his phone and begun to stare at it with an expression devoid of any life. Then my gaze rests on Derrick. My insides flip as I examine the great face before me, and my heart begins to pound when our eyes meet. I quickly turn away, placing a hand on a cheek that I'm sure has reddened by now as I squirm where I stand on the table. I want to look my deskmate in the eyes, but for whatever reason, I just can't handle the weight of his stare!
"Y-yes," I finally manage. "I'll play."
Mrs. Drake passes by the table and ruffles her son's hair. "You kids have fun. Your dad and I will be in the other room if you need anything."
"Right. Thanks, Mom." Derrick says, fixing his hair as she walks away.
The room grows quiet once more as Mrs. Drake closes a door somewhere down the hall. Derrick lets out a sigh and turns back to me.
"So, you probably want to know how to play, huh?"
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
After a few minutes of explaining, confusion, and more explaining, I figured I knew enough about the game to give it a try. Derrick, being the birthday boy, went first when Brittney convinced him to, even though he initially wanted to decide who went first by dice roll as the rules directed. Since play was supposed to go clockwise, Kevin should have been next, but Brittney was too eager to roll the dice and ended up going before him. Kevin went after her, and I went last.
The game itself is simple— roll the dice, send out soldiers, and claim land. If the land you end up on is already claimed, fight for it by dice roll. I'm sure I'm forgetting something from Derrick and Brittney's explanation. But I figure if I try to memorize the rules in their entirety, we'll never get to play.
"You'd think all this land we're claiming would already have some owners, wouldn't you?" Brittney says, gazing at the soldier tokens Kevin just set down on his newly claimed territory.
"What?" Kevin says, his eyes narrowing in confusion at his girlfriend's statement. "The back of the box says it's a new world no one has discovered before. Why would there be people there?"
"Well, that's true," Brittney says, "but don't explorers sometimes say they've discovered new land when it's already being occupied?"
"But that would be lying," Derrick chuckles. "They wouldn't have discovered it at all!"
"Yeah," Kevin adds on, "what kind of psychopath would make a claim like that?"
"Ha! Yeah, just... a lot of Earth's explorers were like that, I guess," Brittney laughs nervously before turning to me. "Okay, your turn! Think you've got it figured out?"
"I think so. I'll send out 300 soldiers," I say, stacking three tokens and stepping on the dice pedal. After the two cubes settle down, I read the numbers on the top. "Three and one. Four?!"
My eagerness to play turns to panic as I realize that moving four spaces from start would land me on the space Kevin just claimed on his turn. I don't want to fight Kevin! I begin to shake as I stare at the dice with no clue how to proceed.
"Kaylin?" Brittney says, tapping me on the shoulder. "You good?"
"G-good? Y-yeah!" I utter through my trembling. "Just making sure I read that right."
I turn and begin walking towards the start space, the wobbling in my legs nearly causing me to trip with each step. What am I going to do? When I arrive, I lift my plastic red pawn and count the spaces in front of me over and over again to ensure I'm not making some kind of mistake.
Kevin taps the fourth space on the board in front of me, where he's stacked four of his blue soldier tokens. I gulp as a shudder runs down my spine. If I don't start moving, he's going to realize something's wrong with me for sure! I begin inching forward, my heart pounding in my chest with each step I take toward Kevin's claimed territory. After too short of a distance for my liking, I reach my destination and set my pawn down beside the stack of blue tokens.
"Well, well, well," Kevin grumbles, his low voice reverberating through the table and shaking me to my core.
I don't dare look up. I don't dare make contact with those narrowed brown eyes of his. Not when they remind me so much of...
SLAM!
I struggle to maintain my balance as various game pieces fly through the air and come crashing down all around me. My eyes snap to the right, widening as they land on the cause of this sudden disruption. Before me is a fist. Kevin's fist. I spin around, hoping to locate Brittney or Derrick, but they're nowhere to be found. Trembling, I begin to tiptoe away from the clenched hand.
"Thought you could escape?" Kevin asks, his booming voice reverberating through my body as he pinches the back of my shirt and lifts me high above the table.
"H-hey!" I protest, kicking my legs in a futile attempt to get away.
"Resisting? What a pity," Kevin sighs before a devilish grin spreads across his face. "Most tinies give up and let me win."
My heartbeat rings in my ears as one massive digit pins me between another, forcing the breath from my lungs and leaving me without any air. One by one, other fingers begin to curl around my quaking frame, trapping me completely. No, no! Anything but this!
"If you can't play nicely," he growls, lifting my head to meet those narrowed brown eyes of his as he tightens his grip, "then don't play at all."
All at once I'm thrown down onto the game board, where I land on my side with a loud crack. I don't have time to process the burning pain in my hip when, to my horror, the very same fist that threatened to squeeze the life out of me comes hurling down toward me from above.
SLAM!
"Hello?! Kaylin?!" Brittney says, shaking me by the shoulders.
"Y-yes?!" I answer, clueless to what's going on around me.
"Finally!" she huffs, releasing me. "We were getting worried! You've gotta stop zoning out like that, it freaks people out!"
"S-sorry," I manage, wiping away a stray tear with one of my trembling hands. "What's happening, exactly?"
"You were just about to beg for mercy," Kevin says with a wink.
My lip quivers as I take a step back, unable to tear my eyes away from the massive perthean looming above me.
Brittney lays a hand on my shoulder. "He's joking."
"300 soldiers, right? This stack here?" Kevin asks, pointing to one of my stacks of red soldier tokens by the dice.
"Y-yeah," I nod.
"Well then," he says, picking up the stack and setting it beside the stack that was already on his claimed space, "better hope for a high roll. As defender, I'll roll first."
I flinch when Kevin reaches around Brittney and I to tap the dice pedal. After a loud pop, the cubes in the dome settle down again, and we all lean in to see the result.
Kevin leans back in his chair upon seeing the two and the one he rolled.
"Three times four hundred... That's twelve hundred points," he sighs.
"Mhm," I hum as I rub one of my trembling arms.
"Come on, Kaylin!" Brittney cheers. "You can definitely beat him! That roll was pathetic! You've got this!"
"P-pathetic?" Kevin mumbles. "I thought you were on my side."
"Technically, nobody's really supposed to be on anybody's side," Derrick laughs.
Brittney crosses her arms and turns away from the boys, her bottom lip protruding in a pout. "I was just trying to encourage her, that's all!"
A soft chuckle escapes me as I step on the dice pedal. I bite the inside of my cheek and squeeze my eyes shut as the cubes dance around in their container. When they come to a stop, I reluctantly open one eye and see one of the dice landed on one. My heart sinks. I almost want to keep my eyes shut and pretend I'm not even playing this game.
"Wow! You did it!" Brittney exclaims, shaking one of my shoulders.
"I-I did?" I ask, opening both of my eyes to see the other die, which managed to land on five.
"Eighteen hundred points," Kevin says. "Good game."
As I allow my shoulders to relax, a smile creeps onto my face. I wasn't expecting to win at all! And I wasn't sure if I could expect Kevin to be a good sport about it, either.
Kevin swaps his four blue tokens for red ones and places them beside me.
"So," he says, grinning, "what would you like to do with your new land?"
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The game went on for an hour or so, and things were really close between Brittney and Derrick during the last quarter. It was anyone's guess who the winner would be, but ultimately, Brittney came out on top.
After thinking through other games we could play, we decided to switch from board games to video games when Derrick suggested we play Super Crushers Ultra on his FlexPad. I wasn't sure at first, since I've never been a big fan of violent games. But then I learned I could play as Mr. Buck from Flower Forest, or even that lovable orange blob, Borbo! Since a kid-friendly character like Borbo was involved, I became convinced that the game couldn't possibly be as violent as I had initially worried it would be.
Derrick happened to have two sets of human-sized FlexPad controllers, which took me by surprise. I wonder how many humans he plays video games with.
"Gah!" Brittney says when Borbo is cornered by Luis, the blue electrician.
Derrick, not wasting the opportunity, proceeds to mercilessly mash buttons on his controller until poor Borbo is flung off screen by a powerful bolt of lightning coming from Luis' wrench.
"Not fair!" Brittney exclaims. "What did I ever do to you?!"
"You did take his land," Kevin says, moving the angry black cat, Eclipse, off a ledge and toward Luis. "Don't worry, I'll get him for you."
"I thought we weren't taking sides!" Derrick says as he continues to mash buttons.
I move Mr. Buck from ledge to ledge above the other two fighters, still not quite sure how to control him. Once Eclipse is thrown out of the arena, Luis jumps up in front of Mr. Buck! My heart beats faster and faster as I struggle to remember the right buttons to press.
"W-wait!" I plead. "Can't we talk about this?"
To my surprise, Luis stops.
"Oh, come on!" Kevin shouts. "You didn't even show any mercy to your own best friend!"
Blood rushes to my cheeks, and I look down at my controller. I didn't mean to make anyone angry.
"Hold on, I just want to see what she has to say," Derrick says.
My heart skips a beat. I didn't think my plea would get me this far. I turn back from my spot on the sofa's armrest to look up at Derrick, whose warm smile almost seems unfitting for a guy who just beat two of his closest friends in a video game without holding back.
"Well?" Derrick says.
"U-um," I utter, desperately trying to think of any string of words that could get me out of this situation.
Derrick tilts his head, waiting patiently for my response.
"Y-you..." I start, putting on the best impression of Mr. Buck I can muster. "You wouldn't hit a fellow with glasses, now would you?"
My deskmate is silent at first, but after a moment, bursts out laughing.
My heart sinks in my chest as my face turns a bright shade of red. What was I thinking? Why would I say something so stupid?
"That was really good!" Derrick laughs, wiping a stray tear from his eye.
I look up to my deskmate in surprise. "R-really?"
"Yeah! And you do have a point. I guess I wouldn't hit a guy with glasses."
"S-so you'll reconsider?!" I blurt out, hanging on to the last bit of hope I have left.
Derrick finally stops laughing and smiles warmly at me. "No, I don't think I will."
Before I even have the chance to turn back around, the sound of Mr. Buck being electrocuted fills my ears.
"WINNER!" declares the game's announcer as the blue electrician dances and the other characters clap.
"Sorry, Kaylin." Derrick chuckles.
My attention immediately shifts when I hear a door open down the hall, followed by some shuffling in the kitchen. My curiosity turns to trembling when I realize that Mrs. Drake couldn't possibly be alone in there. Who else could be with her? I look around the room, but the others don't seem to take notice of the noise as they go through the play-by-play of the game's last round.
All at once, the lights in the living room turn off. I let out a gasp as endless possibilities run through my mind. Could the power have gone out? Not if the TV is still on. Could something have short-circuited? Could someone have turned the lights off? What sort of nefarious reason could someone have to do that?
I turn to see a faint orange glow coming from the other side of the room, accompanied by two shadowy figures. One of them has to be Mrs. Drake, but I can't help but tremble as I glance at the two! And who's the tall, foreboding figure beside her?!
As the two figures approach Derrick, one of them begins to sing:
Happiest birthday, child of ours
Happiest birthday, light of our lives
Live years of joy and happiness
And know that we hold you so dear
I look to Derrick, whose face is illuminated by the glow of what I've come to realize is a candle sitting atop a birthday cake. One of his brows twitches as he forces a smile.
"Well? Aren't you going to make a wish?" asks his mom, cake in hand.
Derrick sighs. Then, closing his eyes, he blows out the candle.
"Yay!" Brittney says. She claps, but nobody else joins in.
"Mom," Derrick starts, once again forcing a smile. "I did tell you I didn't want to have cake tonight, right?"
"I thought you were only talking about dinner," Mrs. Drake says, her smile fading. "Besides, it's tradition to have cake on birthdays!"
"I know, but..." Derrick starts, flashing a worried glance in my direction before turning back to his mom. "Can't we save it for later?"
"Why don't we ask your friends if they're comfortable with— I mean, if they'd like to have some before we put it away?" Mrs. Drake suggests.
"I'll have some cake!" Brittney hollers, waving her arms in the air.
Kevin sighs. "You and that sweet tooth. You are way too excited for this."
Mrs. Drake laughs. "Of course, Brittney. You'll get some cake. How about you, Kevin?"
"Sure," Kevin shrugs.
"And how about you?" Mrs. Drake says, turning to me. "Would you like some cake?"
No, no! I want to shout. But instead, I bite my tongue and fold my hands in my lap, pressure building within me from the weight of everyone's stares. How am I supposed to get out of this?!
"Y-yes, please," I finally manage.
What have I done?! I could have at least said 'no thank you!'
"Then that settles it!" Mrs. Drake says, spinning on her heel and heading to the dining room.
Once she's gone, Derrick and I share a look. His brows are turned upward, and his blue eyes almost seem to be asking me if I really want to go through with this.
A quivering sigh escapes me as I bury my head in my knees. I want to go home.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I poke at the chocolate cake in front of me with the plastic fork in my trembling hand. I don't dare look up from the portable balcony Brittney and I are on, lest I be faced with the reality that I'm actually sharing dessert with pertheans. At least I'm not on the table's surface like I feared I would be, but I can't decide if being closer to these pertheans' faces as they eat their cake is any better.
"This cake is super good!" Brittney says, shoveling a big bite of what I'm certain is only frosting into her mouth. "My compliments to the chef!"
"Oh, it's not homemade," Mrs. Drake laughs, "it's from Stanley's. It was the only chocolate one they had, too."
"Store-bought, huh? I never would have known!" Brittney says as she examines the hunk of dessert on her fork. "Is chocolate your favorite, Derrick?"
Derrick, poking at his slice of cake with a fork, doesn't answer.
"Uh, Derrick?" Brittney tries again.
"Huh? What was the question?" Derrick looks up from his plate to the balcony Brittney and I are on.
"Is chocolate your favorite type of cake?" she asks.
"I don't know," he answers, returning his gaze to the plate in front of him. "I like a lot of different flavors. It might be John's favorite, though."
"Oh, if only the two of you were able to celebrate your birthday together," Mrs. Drake sighs, glancing at the banner that bears both of the brothers' names. "It's a shame we can't even wish John a happy birthday over the phone since he's away from Perthea."
"You know, you could have been on Erimathea too right now if you had studied harder," a low voice rumbles.
The room quickly quiets down to a deafening silence as Mr. Drake's statement hangs in the air. Dropping my fork, I reluctantly look up from the cake in front of me. I've avoided looking at Derrick's dad since we sat down, and now is the first time I'm getting a good look at him. His brown hair is a bit darker than his son's, and while Derrick's blue eyes are warm and welcoming, his dad's blue eyes are cold and narrow. I can't help but shiver in my seat as I gaze at him from the balcony.
"Well, studying abroad was more of John's thing," Derrick says. "I'm happy where I am."
"Hm, but you could have at least graduated early like your brother if you hadn't blown that equivalency exam," his dad continues. "Each subject on that darned test was 400 koroz."
"Jason," Mrs. Drake whispers, leaning in closer to her husband. "Maybe now isn't the best time for this, hm?"
Mr. Drake sighs before taking another bite of his cake. "It's just that I want both of our sons to succeed, Dianne. And Derrick still has a lot of catching up to do if he plans on getting into a decent university like his brother."
"You say that like I'm behind," Derrick pipes up from across the table. "I'm still getting good grades, and I'm on track to graduate."
"Hmph," Mr. Drake huffs. "Dropping out of a school like Pacific still won't look good on your applications, in my opinion."
"Jason, please," Mrs. Drake pleads.
My insides begin to twist and churn as my heartbeat quickens. I don't like where this is going.
"But I'm back to finish what I started. Isn't that enough?" Derrick says, narrowing his eyes at his dad.
Mr. Drake doesn't miss a beat, and narrows his eyes right back. "If you ask me, you should have stayed put at Pacific instead of running away from your problems. Instead, you let a little gossip run you out of a good school."
"Maybe we should talk about something more positive," Mrs. Drake laughs nervously. "You know, the yellow flowers on this cake are part of the reason—"
"I didn't run away, Dad," Derrick says, raising his voice. "I moved on, just like anyone else would have done."
Something breaks in my heart when I hear the shift in Derrick's tone, and I grab onto the edge of the balcony's table in an attempt to ground myself as the world begins to spin around me.
"Hey," Brittney whispers, tapping on my shoulder. "Kaylin? Are you okay?"
I open my mouth to answer, but the words don't come. I look down at my trembling hands as my breathing quickens and tears begin to blur my vision. This isn't good. This isn't good at all.
Mr. Drake raises his volume to match his son's. "You still called it quits when it got hard. You threw away everything you worked so hard for! Do you know how much it even cost to put you two in that school?"
"Please, you two! Settle down!" Mrs. Drake begs.
"And your brother!" Mr. Drake continues. "Did he let a little rumor decide his future for him?"
"It wasn't a little rumor, and he wasn't even involved!" Derrick retorts.
"But look where he is now! If you would have stopped fooling around and focused on what really mattered, you could have been lightyears ahead of where you are now!" Mr. Drake sighs, cutting into his cake with his fork. "If you put in the work like John did, you could have—"
Derrick jumps up from his seat and pounds the table. "Look! I'm not John, okay?! I'm sorry I'm not your favorite son!"
Mr. Drake rises. His tall, tall frame towers above the table and everyone around it, including Derrick. He stares his son down, his narrowed eyes seething with rage.
The edges of my vision begin to fade to black as my core tightens and my trembling becomes completely uncontrollable. I'm going to die here!
Mr. Drake stares down his son for only a moment before abruptly picking up his plate and leaving the table. He sets his plate in the sink and retreats down the hall, the loud slam of a door acting as his final addition to the conversation.
Derrick sighs, tearing his gaze away from the hall. That's when he finally sees me. His eyes widen, and he lets out a faint gasp.
"Kaylin?" Brittney says, placing a hand on my back. "Are you—"
Immediately, I turn away from Derrick and into Brittney's shoulder. Sob after gut-wrenching sob escapes me as tears refuse to stop falling from my eyes.
"Shh, it's okay," Brittney whispers, wrapping her arms around me. "It's over now."
"I-I—" I stutter as I try not to choke on my own sobs. "I want to go home."

hi 🐊 since youre asking for them ^-^ .
im having a lot of thoughts about the micah/bill/javier dynamics and also the ways bill and javier almost seem to reflect the main two sides of micah we see (quiet, brooding, thoughtful, and terrifying vs impulsive, boistrous, rowdy, and scary) and how different their relationships with micah are, but also how they both come together when they soend time as a trio ^-^ id love to hear your thoughts on all this :)
Tumblr media
Thank you!! I am happy the F of a Feather triad got you thinking about this.
Agreed, interesting how Javier and Bill seem so far apart in personality but somehow have a common tie between Micah.
I don’t actually have a whole lot to say… I work best when I have other fan works to build off of but so many drawings and fan fics go shallow with anything relating to the triad or even the pairs that make up the triad. The most that comes to my head is the same pitch I’ve said in almost every post relating to them.
- but to try and make something worth reading… -
Javier and bill pairing with Micah could come from Micah either matching the energy or balancing the energy of the other.
Micah and Javier:
I can see Javier and Micah having a nice night together by accidentally sharing quality time together: parallel play with Micah shining his weapons and Javier practicing his guitar.
I notice in game that Javier sometimes stop playing if arthur approaches, which makes me think Javier is a bit reserved and him letting people be around him while he does something is special.
Micah tries his hardest to ignore others when he is at the campfire shining his weapons, but he secretly dislikes having other people around him.
And so the both of them are at the campfire and are bemused to realize they don’t mind the other’s presence: Micah doesn’t dislike the guitar plucking, and Javier doesn’t mind the flashes of motion as Micah aims and fires his empty revolver.
But micah and Javier could also be boisterous dorks I am suuure. Javier is in his 20’s, so is Charles. As much as the fandom likes to treat them as perfect, neither man is this flawless chill man who never does wrong and never makes brash decisions. Give micah and Javier some alcohol and I am sure both will be thrown in a jail cell like the Strawberry situation with Micah and Lenny.
I wanna see more missions with Micah and Javier and what their dynamic would be. Javier is very much a back-up gunman, but he can lead his own smaller missions. He can do stuff solo but benefits from having someone with more seniority by his side. Micah is not higher ranked than him in the gang, but he has a longer life of gunman expertise that can prove helpful.
Micah can cook up one hell of a plan for things. His plans leave too much “I have my guns, I have you, what other planning do we need?” for Javier’s comfort, hence how he can flesh out Micah’s plan. Perhaps it feels less like one is nodding the other around and trampling each other’s egos since both of them sculpted the plan.
So basically they should get tipsy and decide to follow through on a lead for money together. Micah prefers stagecoach robberies (for the thrill!), Javier likes ambush missions. I am sure if Javier could convince Micah, he too could enjoy ambush missions. Or maybe he’d see it as too easy, like shooting fish in a bucket.
Micah and Bill:
Micah and Bill are troublesome together but they can actually be amicable???? Wow???
Their two of them can definitely be rough. They will literally get in a fist fight if not stopped, tho it’s rare micah actually initiates a fist fight he doesn’t see himself winning. They draw out the worst in each other. They argue and pick at each other because in the pecking order of the gang, Micah is a rookie and there is less push back for Micah to prod at a gang member who is already held in low respects.
But overall they’re actually quite chill with each other. As chill as they can be. They have that silent mutual destruction that closeted gay men have.
They can share a moment where it’s just the two of them awake late at night and neither has to say a word. Micah doesn’t like people talking to him late at night, and Bill always fumbles over his words when he is tired (regardless of if he is drunk or not).
In the cold, Bill and Micah can stand next to each other and not immediately start drawing blood. They can just exist in a space and not see it as a competition.
They can go on missions and return with no bullet holes in their bodies, sometimes they even return with cash or watches! They can work, but they work best when they have a third person to keep the peace in case anything goes wrong. Who is a pretty level-headed guy who can pull his own? Wink wink: Javier.
Woof ngl I don’t know where I was going with this all. I’ve been scatter brained and chipping away at answering your asks.
I am glad you’re interested in F of a Feather!

I absolutely love your view on Thomas and Martha so I was curious on what you think about their canon self because the difference between your version and dc version is surprisingly big
Well, I’d say generally, my interpretations are just amplified versions of their canon selves! (Aside from Russian Martha and cig mom Thomas ofc)
but id say it’s fairly difficult to determine Thomas and Martha's characters due to their narrative obscurity.
A lot of tangible, solid evidence of their personalities and how they were as people is often showed behind the scenes, flashbacks, etc, so it can be rather challenging to construct a solid depiction or guideline for their character.
I find It fascinating how they play such a relevant role in Batman and Bruce’s mythology, yet they mostly live as reclusive memories in the actual story.
I think they’re very fun to write about because clearly, DC doesn’t have a straightforward approach when it comes to them, so, it’s mostly up to the viewer’s preference (which can apply to many DC characters in their own right. )
Of course there’s elements that show clear personality traits both in the comics and movies, but I recomand just making soup out of it.
For exemple, I don’t think Thomas would hit Bruce, as some comics show/infirm, but he’d definitely show him horror movies and give Alfred jewelry (marking a territory Mayhaps 👀)

How can I enrich life? Especially when you have physical and mental health conditions 🐣🐔🐤
Hi!
This is a big and difficult question to answer, and I have been thinking a lot about what to say. It really varies for each and every person, as well as the nature of your physical and mental health condition, but I will share some things that I do to enrich my own life, and hope some of it will resonate with you.
I know I repeat this a lot, but focusing on the little things is pretty much my main approach to finding joy in being alive. Things like opening the window to smell the rain, buying a magazine, or wearing some nice socks. I'm working on letting go of these big, complicated expectations of what success or a good life should look like, and instead focusing on the fact that I'm alive and can interact with the world, and that is amazing enough. I also very firmly believe in the value of connecting with other people. Just talking about the weather with the person making my coffee in a café makes me feel human, and in touch with other humans. Just observing people from your window and thinking about what you have in common can feel comforting.
Another thing that brings me a lot of joy, is being in touch with the changing of seasons. That way, there is always something to look forward to (November is my least favourite month, but the stores here will carry persimmons now! How lovely!). Preparing for the upcoming season feels meaningful to me, and it is possible to make it as easy or complicated as your health allows for. I like going on little walks in the neighborhood or just sitting outside for a while to feel the weather, looking forward to different foods being in season, watching seasonal movies and shows, decorating, or making little rituals that mark the changes. I guess it helps me feel like my life is not stagnant, and that changes are all around me all the time.
I also like to make sure I have something to look forward to, and try to actively appreciate that feeling. Whether it means getting a pen pal and looking forward to letters, planting bulbs to see them bloom in spring, or promising yourself a treat or hot drink in the evening, I think it boils down to intentionally planning for small moments of joy.
Finally, I think it is really important not to feel disappointed if you expected something to give you joy and excitement, only to discover you don't feel as happy as you imagined you would. Emotions can be unpredictable, especially for us who deal with mental health issues, but the experience can still be worthwhile and can become meaningful to you later, even if it did not bring you the "spark" you imagined. Sometimes that spark will appear in the most unexpected of places as well!
I hope at least some of that can be of help to you. I wish you all the best, and hope that you are happy and safe!

Shihua was probably just having a normal day when her youngest bursts into the throne room talking about how his gege on a cliffside with a bunch of strangers and seemingly didn't recognize him. Confused and fearing if it were an impostor, Shihua orders them to be brought before her after Ma got back to her with knowledge that Shihou was still in the Celestial Realm.
But when the impostor was brought before her, separate from his party, her breath caught. The monkey before her was older than her Shihou, with a wisdom and confidence to his step her cub had not yet gained and wearing strange and expensive clothing, but there was no doubt about it. He resembled Shihou, from the golden eyes he had inherited from her beloved right down to every hair of his ginger fur that seemed to glow like fire in the sunbeams that caught it.
"You stand before the Matriach of the Huā Guǒ Troupe, Shihua." Her beloved announced, careful to not let the unease she felt from him show as he did his due diligence as her advisor, "Name yourself and your purpose!"
The stranger seemed taken aback and before stepping forward, clearing his throat.
"I... My name is Sun Wukong, Lady Matriarch. We had not meant to intrude, we... we fell through a portal and woke up here, lost."
Her troupe murmured, confused as to the name the doppelganger gave and what he said. Shihua considered his words about teleportatuon and portals, familair with the concept from her time speaking to the celestials until her eye caught sight of a familiar fabric of red that had flared up behind him as he stepped forth. Faded and far more weathered than her own, around his neck was a familiar cape tied with a simple knot in the style of a scarf that barely concealed a braded black chord. As she stared, transfixed at the cape, the strange monkey began to stammering in his explanation, fidgeting with his hands and tail whipping about in a manner near identical to Shihou whenever he became nervous, clearly uncomfortable with her attention on him.
"I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but we think we're in an alternate dimension or timeline. It's... it's the only reason I can think to explain it." He was saying, "Our world has had a series of disasters happen recently that resulted in damage to the Pillars and reality itself nearly shattering. We... we managed to stop it but we fell through the cracks and so we ended up here and not at our home and-"
Shihua rose from her throne and stepped closer to the doppelganger, startling him with a choked squeak as he noticed her approach. His stammering increased as he began to become more flustered eith every step, stumbling back as their height differences became apparent and she began to tower over him.
"And I was... uh..." the familiar stranger's words faded out as Shihua slowly grabbed at the cape, lifting it for a closer inspection and sniffing the fabric. Her eyes widened in shock, the scent different yet still unmistakable to her. Peach blossoms and fresh grass after morning rain and bright sunlight and the smallest hint of smoke. It was different but it was Shihou! There was no mistaking it.
"Where... did you get this?" Shihua asked, voice shaky as she looked into his eyes, needing the confirmation. Her son's doppelganger looked away, as if ashamed,
"I found it, draped upon the stone throne when I first discovered the Stone Palace."
"'Discovered?'" Shihua echoed, "Have... have you not lived here you're whole life!?"
What Shihou said next shattered her heart. Her people had lost their ancestral home and he had been the one to reclaim it, and the title of 'king' along with it.
"How old were you?" Ye Lin asked, picking up her concern. He had said he was young, but surely he wouldn't have been-
"It's been so long in don't remember for sure, but I think I was only 10 years. Possibly younger."
A cub, he was just a cub! Ye Lin gave her a concerned look, she knew he too was suspicious of who this monkey was and why he looked so much like their child.
"Surely you're parents would have stepped in!" Ye Lin sounded almost desperate as he spoke, "No parent would let a mere cub rule alone!"
"I... I never had parents."
Those four words were like a nail in the coffin and a knife to her heart. He was an orphan. In whatever world this version of her son had come from, Shihou had been an orphaned and abandoned cub!
"I was hatched atop the mountain from a stone egg, alone." Shihou was saying, his words sounding muffled to her ears through the sheer horror she was feeling, "As far as I'm aware, I'm the only celestial primate alive aside from MK and Macaque."
She felt a firm paw on her shoulder, a glance back showing her mate had stepped up to stand beside her, concerned. Shihua takes another deep sniff of the fabric and even a bit of the other ginger monkey's fur, memorizing the subtle differences in his scent from her cub's. Shihou, no he had said his name was Sun Wukong, looked somewhat confused and uncomfortable. What a peculiar yet somehow fitting name for her child. That confusion only grew as she offered the fabric to her mate, letting him smell for himself. His eyes snapped to hers in shock,
"How could this be!? He smells like Shihou!"
"His story explains everything, my love." Shihua gracefully assured her, "He and his companions truly are from another world. One where our people did not survive the tragedy of the Floods. In that world, he must be our son."
The news created a ripple throughout the gathered troupe as every single jaw dropped, all eyes locked upon the alternate version of their eldest prince. Many, such as the marshals and generals, moved in closer to the younger monkey, sniffing and inspecting his fur.
"Son!? H-hey! What are you-" Sun Wukong yelped, eyes wide as he was crowded by monkeys, trying to step away but by that point he was surrounded and moving back only brought him back to chest with Luzhen, "Uh...?"
"So does that mean I was right!?" Luzhen's paws came to Sun Wukong's shoulder, gripping them excitedly in the same manner he would do so when presenting Shihou with something he considered exciting, "He is gege!?"
Shihua couldn't hide her giggle at the sight, it appears no matter what, Luzhen would always idolize Shihou, even if it was not the one he knew. "No my little one, your brother is still serving his sentence in the celestial stables. Ma had checked when you first announced finding Aun Wukong here. This is version of your brother from another world."
Luzhen's ears and tail drooped for but a moment as he considered her words before perking right back up, grinning even wider.
"Then that means I have two big brothers!" Luzhen announced, excitedly clinging to the older version of his brother. Sun Wukong's eyes were as wide as dinner plated as he stared in shock at the younger monkey,
"B-brothers!?"
Ah, right. He had said he was an orphan, hadn't he. As Shihua left Luzhen to his excitement, she called one of th3 guards over, asking that Sun Wukong's companions be freed and escorted here. No doubt they, too, would want to be a part of the upcoming discussion.
Ref.
You have such a talent with writing!
I love how you wrote in Shihua subtely observing Wukong; how he has little habits indentical to Shihou, and how his smell is nearly identical. Ye Lin being her biiggest cheerleader and support.
And ofc their shock at learning that the "Shihou" before them is an orphan, flrced to take the reins of his troupe as a mere child.
I love it <3

About your meta, I guess the thing is if you believe that Word Of God is canon or not. Jac Schaeffer said that Agatha was thinking she wanted to save Billy and kiss Rio and that she never wanted to bring Nicholas back. For me it’s not canon unless I like what they say 😝 but the fun of reading meta is to see everyone’s sometimes wildly different takes and in the end of the day people can think anything they want because we all bring our preferences, our bias and even our traumas to it
I believe Agatha truly loved Rio, I believe there was considerable time in their lives that they weren’t toxic to each other in any way and I believe that aren’t done, they still have centuries to work out their issues but I know there are plenty of fans that don’t believe in any if that. who’s right, who’s wrong I don’t think anyone can know and as long as everyone is respectful it’s all good. I just hope this fandom continues to be fun for a long time cause we all need the distraction
It is what I love about shows like this. Honestly, I dont think there is a right or wrong way to look at things.
Like you say, everyone has their own bias and will project onto characters. I really enjoy it when people want to have discussions about the things I love. I really appreciate you wanting to talk about this with me.
And the fact that while you may disagree with me on some points, you are not mean about it and are challenging me to look at things from a different perspective. So, thank you.
While I find it interesting to read up on writers intent, I don't ever take it as gospel unless it is there on screen. Between now and a potential next project with these characters, the writers could have evolved their ideas or changed their own interpretation of the characters. So I try not to hold too tightly to what they say.
Instead, I like to take what I have seen on the screen. The characters have shown us who they are with word, action, and deed. Every choice they have made forms who they are. A show not tell approach if you will.
I agree with you, Rio and Agatha love each other deeply. There was a time that it was far less toxic, and there may come a time when that is true once more.
I want to see them in all of their evolutions and iterations.
I want to see Agatha, the mentor. She has never been one to pull her verbal punches, so she won't take any nonsense. Her dynamic with Billy is so good that I would like to see that explored more.
I want to see Billy explore his powers, find his brother, and grow up a little more without being hardened by the world.
I want to see Jen flourish as she reaquaints herself with her power once more. Still snarky but less brittle. If she ever sees Agatha and Teen, have her just turn around and get the fuck away from them. Because they only lead to death.
In the end, though, my opinion is just one in a sea of thousands. I will write some ridiculous fanfics to get this show out of my system. Maybe make them a bit too oc for my own liking. Hopefully, I will learn from that and get better.
I just want to have fun with things. I don't want to hurt anyone with things I post unless it is superficial emotional damage (I eat that shit up). I hope you keep having fun with it, too.
In the end, as much as it pains me to admit it, these are not real people. So why not just go buck wild with our imaginations and throw them in every conceivable scenario. It's not like it will hurt anyone, so why not.
Feel free to chat with me any time

Then, with the fear on me of what might be, I drew a ring so big for her comfort, round where Madam Mina sat; and over the ring I passed some of the wafer, and I broke it fine so that all was well guarded. She sat still all the time—so still as one dead; and she grew whiter and ever whiter till the snow was not more pale; and no word she said. But when I drew near, she clung to me, and I could know that the poor soul shook her from head to feet with a tremor that was pain to feel. I said to her presently, when she had grown more quiet:— "Will you not come over to the fire?" for I wished to make a test of what she could. She rose obedient, but when she have made a step she stopped, and stood as one stricken. "Why not go on?" I asked. She shook her head, and, coming back, sat down in her place. Then, looking at me with open eyes, as of one waked from sleep, she said simply:— "I cannot!" and remained silent. I rejoiced, for I knew that what she could not, none of those that we dreaded could. Though there might be danger to her body, yet her soul was safe!
So yesterday I wrote about how the land itself seems to be affecting Mina. Ever since they left the main road behind and began to approach the castle, she has seemed distinctly more vampiric. But this scene marks the start of another change, I think. Before this moment, she's in the same state as yesterday. When they travel, Mina's fully passed out throughout the day, and she gets alert at night. She's extra charming, she refuses to eat. She isn't aggressive, but she seems to hold an unnatural stillness and attention, much like how she lay where Van Helsing asked her to sleep the night before but simply watched him all night long. She's very quiet.
And then as he puts the holy ward around her, Mina starts to get very pale. The way she does so, and the way she gets paler as he completes this task, seems almost like she is being harmed or frozen by what he is doing. In fact, it reminds me a bit of what Lucy did when the men trapped her outside her crypt:
When within a foot or two of the door, however, she stopped, as if arrested by some irresistible force. Then she turned, and her face was shown in the clear burst of moonlight and by the lamp, which had now no quiver from Van Helsing's iron nerves. Never did I see such baffled malice on a face; and never, I trust, shall such ever be seen again by mortal eyes. The beautiful colour became livid, the eyes seemed to throw out sparks of hell-fire, the brows were wrinkled as though the folds of the flesh were the coils of Medusa's snakes, and the lovely, blood-stained mouth grew to an open square, as in the passion masks of the Greeks and Japanese. If ever a face meant death—if looks could kill—we saw it at that moment. And so for full half a minute, which seemed an eternity, she remained between the lifted crucifix and the sacred closing of her means of entry.
There are a couple key differences, of course. Mina lacks the rage that Lucy exhibited, and she isn't trying to get away. But something about the way they both just silently freeze and watch as the holy articles are used to keep them trapped feels very reminiscent to me. Also, Jack's entry says Lucy's color "became livid" - and while that word can simply mean angry, it can also be used to mean either reddened or pallid/pale. Given the association with color in how he uses it, I assume it would be one of those. So this could also be a potential connection here, if Lucy also paled in that situation.
But then when Van Helsing gets close to her (I think after he has finished the circle) Mina's reaction of clinging to him reminds me a lot of an entirely different moment: one between her and Jonathan on October 2.
The dear girl was more affectionate with me than ever, and clung to me as though she would detain me; but there was much to be talked of and I came away.
Jonathan was putting Mina to bed (where Dracula had attacked her and would come again) so he could go talk vampire-hunting with the other men. He was actively trying to convince himself throughout this period that the choice to leave her out was correct despite his own misgivings, and Mina herself was also trying not to show how much it bothered her. Still, the only other time Mina is described as "clinging" to someone was when she tried to stop Jonathan running off after Dracula on the 3rd. It's not something she typically does, and I highly suspect it was not just out of affection in this instance. Instead, there was some part of her, suppressed though it was, that knew she was in danger and was terrified to be alone. Mina clinging to Van Helsing here could be related to her fearing for him (as she does a short while later) but I think given her behavior right before this is more easily aligned to another instance of unconscious dread for herself affecting her. The holy circle has affected her and perhaps she fears it, or maybe she fears what its affect on her means. But it's unconscious. She doesn't know why she's doing it and can't express it in words.
Then Van Helsing asks her to leave the circle. And as soon as she does, she wakes up. She freezes in realization, and then she understands. This is Mina coming back to herself much more than before. The holy circle restraining her sort of acts in the same way seeing her scar in the mirror did in the past, by awakening her to the danger her soul is in. But it also does something else, I think, and this is where I get more speculative.
After Mina is put into the circle, her behavior starts to slowly change back. She's not straight back to normal, of course. But she is no longer being super charming during the night. Instead she sits calmly, knowing why she must stay in here. When the vampire women show up, she knows how safe she is from them - both because of the circle and more importantly because she is becoming like them. And yet she does not reply to them, and she expresses her worry for Van Helsing. She looks at them with revulsion and horror - seemingly unaffected by their sweetness.
And while Mina still falls into a deep sleep during the day, she is able to wake at some point in the middle of the day to let out the wail that awakens Van Helsing from his own trance. I suspect that this was around noon, given the significance of that timing, though we don't know for sure. Regardless, she seems to be acting extra-psychic, knowing when Van Helsing is in danger and knowing of Jonathan's approach. This seems less like vampiric magic and more like Mina's own psychic abilities to me. But the real kicker is how she looks when Van Helsing returns: bad. He tells us "She was looking thin and pale and weak; but her eyes were pure and glowed with fervour. I was glad to see her paleness and her illness, for my mind was full of the fresh horror of that ruddy vampire sleep."
After a day spent within the holy circle, Mina appears more human than she has lately. And perhaps some of that is the effect of the day itself (but that hasn't been mentioned the past few days) or maybe the death of the three nearby vampires has lessened the evil influence of the area (seems quite possible, but the change in her started before this). But I think a big part of that is the holy effect surrounding her helping to cleanse at least a little of the vampiric magic within her. It's not going to be enough to heal her, not without Dracula's death, but maybe it slows the process down a little, or at least protects her somewhat from the ambient evil aura that seemed to make her symptoms so much worse so suddenly.

Jason sighs and decides a different approach. "Well, if he did decide to adopt you, would you say yes?"
Metaverse just shrugs in response. "I dunno. N'ver really th'ght 'bout it." That was a lie. They had thought about things like that before. But they'd rather die than admit that to Jason. To themself? Whatever. To their partner? Sure, have at it. The rest of the Crew? Maybe. Jason? Hell no. They knew who he was. At least, they had a sneaking suspicion.
Jason sighs and pats Metaverse on the knee. "Well, you can think about it now. You don't need to have an answer yet, but at least think about it, alright? I swear, I won't snitch." Metaverse just nodded.
Jason glanced at the basket on the floor next to them with curiosity. "What's in the basket?"
Metaverse shrugs in response. "A lotta chocolate. I think Artem sen' it as 'n ap'logy. They're my witch friend an' they brough' up th' whole "Hood acts like the Crew's dad" thing."
Jason nods and peeks in the basket. "Huh. These are some good candies."
A fluffy white cat white an upward turns black crescent patch on her forehead exits Metaverses shadow. She has a little cat sized basket she’s delivering.
They look at the cat passively, before slowly stroking her head.
"Lemme guess, Artem sent you?" They look at the basket and gently take it off the cat's neck, peeking inside.
