things we learn about carlos from “it devours”

 we learn some nice things about carlos in the new book, and if u cant read the book ive provided some of my favorite tidbits for you! all with page numbers in case u ever pick up the novel, which i highly recommend!

also, spoilers ahead so beware!

carlos makes paper collage love notes for cecil and considers it “important work,” which is literally so adorable... (pg. 18)

carlos cares about 2 things: his work and his family (pg. 19)

on his days off, carlos spends time with janice, steve, and abby (pg. 19)

whenever cecil is in danger and on the radio, carlos locks himself in his office and paces around trying not to call him. also, no work gets done because hes so scared for his husband :( (pg. 19)

he wears hair gel on date nights (pg. 20)

carlos doesnt talk about the desert otherworld, and everytime someone asks him about it, he tries to change the subject (pg. 21)

carlos still thinks night vale is super weird (pg. 35)

he cares a lot about the people around him, including his scientists (pg. 84)

the other scientists say “neat” a lot because they know it’s one of his favorite words (literally oh my god) (pg. 86)

carlos rarely shows anger or rage and really only expresses kindness (i love him so much,,) (pg. 91)

he is extrememly sensitive to touch and doesnt like people touching him (pg. 92)

carlos isnt good with talking a lot (we already know this but its funny because he was like “journalism sux science rulez” despite being married to a journalist (pg. 100

he thinks all scientists are cute (pg. 129)

carlos said that falling in love with cecil was slow and gentle, and they both just enjoyed talking to one another and sometimes cecil wakes up and “smiles like it’s the first time he’s ever seen me, and he says, ‘how did i end up so lucky?’ GOD (pg. 130)

cecil taught carlos that some things are more important than science, and whenever cecil does something like make him dinner or puts his hand on his cheek, hes reminded that cecil is more important than science (pg. 163)

carlos isnt fond of hugs (pg. 167)

carlos l o v e s janice so so much (pg. 214)

none of carlos’ family lives close to night vale, so he got very very close to abby, steve and janice and feels family is extremely important

carlos is against the idea of killing things just to end them, and believes that keeping them alive to studying them instead of being afraid of them (pg. 223)

carlos actually spent ten years in the desert other world, and didnt tell cecil as to not worry him more. time moved slower, and carlos just wants to protect cecil (pg. 228)

“she returned to the gym to check on carlos. he was leaning into cecils chest. it was just the two of them, alone together. she let them be.” (pg. 253) (this was just rly rly rly rly cute and i wanted to share it)

“for the first time in weeks, carlos forgot his work, his worries, and his world. his universe was a kiss, and his explored that universe thoroughly.” (pg. 254) (again, this was just completely adorable)

carlos does have a breaking point, however. if his family is too threatened and his town, carlos will snap and does kill when he needs to, eve for the sake of science (pg. 303)

carlos is actually pretty emotional, when everything he knows is questioned he somewhat breaks, locks himself in his office, and shuts down (pg. 320)

his co workers had never seen carlos cry, and he does when he gets completely overwhelmed. he will stop at nothing to keep his family and town safe from the desert other world, after not having seen cecil in ten years he doesnt want anybody to go through anything like he did ever again
