Karting ┃CS55
summary: where carlos and his daughter go karting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a beautiful evening in Madrid and the sun reflected on the karting track while Carlos Sainz stood next to a small, elegant kart. Her daughter Camila was next to him, enthusiasm and curiosity shining in her eyes. The distinctive sound of engines roaring and tires screeching filled the air as they watched other young drivers speeding down the track.
"Are you ready, Cami?" Carlos asked, smiling at his daughter. Camila nodded enthusiastically, her small hands gripping the steering wheel with determination.
Carlos bent down to her level and explained the basics of karting. "Remember, Camila, it's all about control and precision. Start slowly, get familiar with the kart and little by little you pick up speed. And most importantly, have fun."
Camila nodded again, paying attention to every word her father said. Carlos helped her put on her helmet, carefully adjusting it to ensure a perfect fit. As she adjusted the straps, she could see the mix of excitement and nervousness in her daughter's eyes.
The engine roared and Carlos walked next to the kart while Camila drove cautiously towards the track. The air was filled with the smell of rubber and the exhilarating sound of engines. Carlos shouted words of encouragement to Camila, guiding her through the initial laps.
With each turn, Camila gained confidence. Carlos watched with pride as his daughter understood the fundamentals of karting. His eyes lit up with excitement and a wide smile spread across his face as he felt the gust of wind against his helmet.
When Camila felt more comfortable, Carlos motioned for her to stop. She approached the kart and crouched down to her level again. "You're doing great, Cam! Now, let's work on taking those turns a little faster. Remember, use your body weight to change the balance of the kart."
Carlos demonstrated the technique, leaning into an imaginary spin. Camila nodded, eager to try. The engine roared once more as they resumed their turns, Camila now executing the turns with new skill.
Time flew by and soon the sun sank behind the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the tarmac. Carlos and Cam sat next to the kart, without helmets, sharing a moment of achievement and joy.
"You did fantastic, Cam," Carlos said, ruffling his messy hair through his helmet. "You have the makings of a great racer."
Camila smiled, her eyes shining with pride. "Thank you, Daddy! This is so much fun! Can we do it again?"
Carlos laughed out loud as he realized that he had just introduced his daughter to the world of racing. "Of course, amor. This is just the beginning. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be on the big circuits, making a name for yourself."
''Do you think that one day I will be as good as you?''
''I know you will be even better than me darling''

Alegría v Caruso: Day 2, Pt. 3
Tumblr media
"Please state your name for the court," Isabela requested.
"Enzo Bianchi."
"And what is your profession?"
"I am a chef, instructor, and culinary consultant," he began. "I currently hold a senior faculty position at the Santoro Academy of Culinary Arts, one of the most prestigious cooking institutions in Italy."
"Impressive," Isabela remarked. "And in your time at the academy, you've taught many students who have gone on to have successful careers, correct?"
"Yes. Many of my former students work at well-known restaurants or own thriving businesses."
Tumblr media
"And you were the instructor of both Mr. Caruso and Ms. Alegría?"
"Yes, I had them in my class for a few semesters. I am quite familiar with their food and temperaments by now."
Isabela nodded. "So in your professional opinion, who was the stronger chef of the two?"
"By far, it was Mr. Caruso. Last I heard, he is a sous chef at a fantastic establishment. The place keeps popping up on my TikTok's 'For You' page in those 'Top 10 Places You Must Visit in Del Sol Valley' videos. I glow with pride every time it's mentioned."
Tumblr media
Dulce stomach churned from the betrayal she felt. She had looked up to Bianchi and often visited him during office hours. He always told her how proud he was of her. The last thing she expected was for him to be a sellout.
Isabela continued, "How would you describe Ms. Alegría as a student?"
"She had passion, but she was impulsive with her ideas. Less disciplined."
Tumblr media
Antonio quickly stepped in to counter. "Mr. Bianchi, I'd like to clarify something. You say Ms. Alegría was impulsive, yet isn't it true that she consistently outperformed Mr. Caruso?"
"Grades don't always reflect real-world skill," Bianchi replied promptly.
"No, but they can reflect consistency and dedication. Was she not one of the top students in the school's program?"
Tumblr media
Bianchi seemed to shift with discomfort. "Yes, but Ms. Alegría ignored structure and experimented wildly. Sometimes her ideas worked, sometimes they didn't."
Dulce's eyes widened. That was only like, two times! And we all had a good laugh if an idea of mine failed terribly. In my defense, they were on Chapter 3, and I was already on Chapter 20.
Isabela smirked. "So, would it be fair to say that Ms. Alegría has a history of being unpredictable? Not as skilled as she seems?"
"Yes, I would say so. It doesn't seem farfetched to me that Mr. Caruso would be the victim here. Ms. Alegría could have manipulated him, made him feel like they were close, taken his ideas, and disposed of him once he wasn't needed anymore—especially if her own ideas didn't work."
Antonio gritted his teeth. That's not Dulce. Never in a million years. She is not like him.
Tumblr media
"And yet, Ms. Alegría's so-called 'impulsiveness' led her to be one of the best in the program. 'Innovative' would be a better descriptor. Is that not a characteristic an exceptional chef would have?"
"..Well, yes. But she was more 'gimicky' than 'innovative.' Nothing groundbreaking. She had many failed ideas."
"But her innovative mind and perseverance are the very things that made her the creator of those recipes. Wouldn't you agree that Ms. Alegría has a unique style?"
Bianchi hesitated, "Yes, but not a very good one."
"That's not something her many fans would agree with. She stands out in a competitive industry with her flair. She takes risks, and they usually pay off. Isn't that what separates good chefs from great ones?"
Bianchi stayed quiet.
"The truth is, Ms. Alegría's recipes are hers. Not Mr. Caruso's. You just admitted she has a distinctive style, one that makes her stand out. And that style is apparent in the recipes—recipes that are not Mr. Caruso's. Should we compare the notebook entries to years-old videos from her channel?"
Tumblr media
The jurors whispered to each other. Bianchi was speechless while Isabela tried not to let her anger show.
Antonio let the silence marinate in the air before closing off with, "No further questions."
That marked the end of Day 2. Unlike the chaos of Day 1, today had gone much smoother. But they had to make sure the momentum carried onto Day 3: The final day.
Start from the beginning (Gen 2)

Bonding as a System
Hello! This post will discuss the importance of bonding as a system, and some activities you and your headmates can do to try and grow closer together. We’re writing from our own experience as a system with members who, at this point, tend to get along much better than we used to due to the progress we’ve made trying to bond and get to know each other! These tips and suggestions may not work for everyone, but we still hope they’ll be useful to some folks. Let’s get started!
If you’re new to connecting as a system, please check out our post on establishing contact with headmates before reading this one. The post you’re reading now assumes that you already have some level of communication abilities with your headmates.
Having a headspace where your system members can interact internally can also be a useful tool, and building a headspace together can be a bonding activity in and of itself! If you’re interested in creating a headspace, our headspace post might also be beneficial.
Trying to bond as a system may be useful if:
- your system’s communication is shoddy at best
- you disagree or fight a lot
- you can’t seem to enjoy time in each other’s company
- you want to strengthen already established connections
- you need to lower dissociative barriers
- you just want to get to know each other better as system members!
All in all, we think that trying to bond as a system can be helpful for almost any system in almost any circumstance. As headmates, we share the same mind and body; why not take steps to ensure we can feel close and comfortable with each other?
We’ll break down potential bonding activities into two groups: internal and external.
Internal
Bonding internally can look incredibly different from system to system and even from headmate to headmate! Our system spends most internal bonding time in our headspace, but we do believe it is possible to bond without one. Here are a few bonding activities that your system can practice internally, in the safety and comfort of your own mind!
Talk to each other!
Seriously, just spend time having conversations and trying to get to know each other! Ask each other questions, or fill out the questions from plural ask games if you’re struggling to think of things to ask. Create inside jokes, goof off, have serious debates, confide in each other, and share as many moments together just talking as you can! Trust and communication won’t always come naturally overnight, but regularly making attempts to talk, laugh, and share with your headmates can be a fantastic way to bond.
You don’t have to talk with fully formed, complete thoughts! You can use the unique ways your system thinks and behaves in order to communicate. Sending emotions, images, or simply vibes are all great and valid ways to communicate!
It’s okay if your headmates can’t find much to talk about at first or have difficulties getting along! Practicing being an active listener and attempting to be receptive to your headmates’ ideas, even if you don’t agree with them, can ultimately help you all grow closer together as a collective.
Learn about each other’s interests!
If your headmates are distinct individuals, try spending time teaching each other about your own individual skills and interests. Ask your fangirl headmate to explain the plot of her favorite show to you. Ask your headmate who does homework to try and explain the concepts to you that they’re learning in school. Ask your headmate who loves Legos to talk about their favorite sets or what they like building most. Try treating each other like people who you genuinely want to get to know!
If you are having trouble finding common ground, expressing interest in each other’s interests can be a fantastic way to warm up to each other and help your whole system feel loved, wanted, and included.
Even if your system does not have distinct members, you can still try bonding over shared interests and having conversations with each other that pertain to the things you all like to do! You don’t have to be completely distinct or individual in order to bond and grow closer together over interests and activities.
Spend time together in headspace!
If your system has a headspace, there’s all sorts of fun activities y’all could do together within it! Headspaces are visualization tools and exercises in imagination, so if you can imagine it, you can include it in your headspace. Your system could go on a high fantasy adventure together, a deep sea diving expedition, or a horseback ride in the mountains! You could build a treehouse or clubhouse together, have a fashion show, or visit a castle in the clouds. The only limits are your own imagination! Try collaborating with your whole system to think of some fun, cozy, or exciting ways y’all could spend time together in your own headspace.
Of course, it doesn’t always have to be high action and excitement! Our system’s favorite way to bond internally is just chilling out in a cozy living room space that we designed together. We put on some relaxing music and just talk or spend time in each others’ presence. Even something small like this could prove to be a immensely uplifting bonding experience!
External
If your system experiences lots of cofronting or coconsciousness or if visualization and imagination don’t come naturally for you, external bonding activities might be a good way to go! Nearly anything that you do on your own can be modified into a group activity for your system. Here’s a few ideas to help y’all get started!
Make art and be creative!
Bust out your pens, markers, crayons, and paints, and start creating something new with your system! Each headmate can add their own unique element to the artwork. If you don’t cofront often, just keep your art piece out in a visible space with a note nearby encouraging others to take part if they wish. You could also try writing a story, song, or poem together, with each headmate adding their own ideas and contributions. Allow your headmates each to express themselves in ways they feel comfortable, and surprise yourselves with the beautiful masterpieces you come up with!
Divvy up actions!
Work on building a new hobby or skill and designate tasks for different headmates to do! Want to bake cupcakes? Have one headmate read the instructions, another assemble the ingredients, another mix and pour the batter, and someone else keep track of a timer while it’s in the oven. You can break up activities and tasks in this way for almost anything, making group activities that your whole system can take part in every day! You can even do chores or obligations in this way to help make daily life less exhausting or monotonous for your whole system.
If your system is struggling to have multiple cofronters remain present when doing activities together, remember that practice makes perfect! It’s okay if you all find this sort of exercise challenging at first. The more you all commit to working on being present together, the easier it may become in the future!
Have fun in cofront!
There’s a bunch of things you can do when other members are fronting together in order to have a fun, bonding experience with your headmates. Put together a movie night with popcorn and a pillow fort! Go for a walk at a nearby park or spend some time in your local library or coffee shop! Play videogames together! Host an in-system book club! Pamper yourselves with an at home spa day! Throw yourselves a fancy tea or dinner party!
Brainstorm with your system to come up with some fun ideas that y’all can do to bond together whenever multiple members are cofronting together! And remember that cofronting is not always a requirement for these sorts of things! Members can be coconscious and still able to enjoy and experience these bonding activities. Even if both cofronting and coconsciousness are impossible for your system right now, you can commemorate your positive experiences with collages, scrapbooks, pictures, and journal entries to help share your life with your headmates.
Wrapping Up
It’s never a bad idea to try to connect with and get to know your headmates better! Keep in mind thought that many systems may find it easier for their headmates to bond with each other in a plethora of different ways. If nothing we’ve mentioned here will work for your collective, why not try to collaborate to think of fun, interesting, achievable ways for your whole system to have fun and bond in ways that work for y’all? It may take time, effort, and practice, but we truly believe that your system will be able to establish ways to bond that work well for y’all!
If you’ve made it this far, thanks so much for reading! Our apologies that this post got so long. You’re welcome to share in a comment or reblog the ways in which your own system bonds and grows closer together. As always, thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day!

What makes a tlt au work for you? Do u have any favourites out there/that you’ve thought of?
its hard because it can go down to the writing! i have a huge bias for things that put focus on the characters acting awful and driving the story forward- if a story has a plot thats great, but its the difference between "gideon and harrow keep meeting up at parties and fall a little bit in love every time" and "gideons angry she lost her childhood to the cult so she attends a party with the tridentarii to shotgun adolescent experiences, and harrowhark, frustrated that gideon is pulling on her metaphorical leash, follows to stalk her". the former retains a 5+1 fic format and is more bite-size, while the latter puts more focus into their growth as characters. im not great at articulating what i like specifically, but ill put my favorite fics below:
what if nona was dogs tugs at my heart: its post-canon, slice-of-life, and has a unique concept (said in the title). i judged a book by its cover because i thought the premise seemed too silly at first but ive been made a fool and its pet clown. it feels so true to nona the way its about all the things nona loves and how she gets to explore the world through new eyes. i love the way it explores characters softening up and getting hurt through a third person pov
we have always lived in the apartment by @thatneoncrisis i keep saying this but for the love of GOD guys this au is so good it makes me cry and feel such a deep catharsis from it. it takes gideon and harrow and the ninth as a cult and explores their struggle to adapt to a modern society when noone ever gets a break (WOW ITS JUST LIKE IN REAL L-). quinn writes the sides of griddlehark i think go overlooked in fanfic often: their codependency, their tendency to lash out when theyre defensive, their mutual paranoia and different coping mechanisms, harrows psychosis and gideons bitterness, their relationships to each other as being the only other person who really understands what the other suffered through. god. i feel lightheaded.
"but SAM, i dont like angst but i want to see this writing!" read gap between a tragedy and a comedy
"SAM, i also like when gideon and harrow are horrible because theyre maladjusted teenagers! but i want more antics where the characters drive things forward over angst!" read whats eating gideon nav
you just aint receiving is one of my FAVORITE modern aus of all time (and i heavily recommend the authors other fics as well!) if you really want to see how much i love this fic the fact that my comments take up the entire phone screen probably says a lot. its hard to put it concisely: it keeps harrows air of misanthropy and cruelty but redefines it as the result of her upbringing and personal struggle to live in a university while dealing with a backpack of mental illness and frustration. it changes gideons personality as the daughter of john gaius in a way that makes sense having her grow up with johns middling parenting skills and getting everything she ever wanted (connecting it back to kirionas personality in ntn!). it brings in side characters (specially palamedes. my beautiful boy palamedes) in ways that compliment harrow and gideon but not so obviously that they only exist to be supports. they have their own lives and ideals. its a modern au that brings in the boiling politics of johns cult uprising once again in a really novel way
semi charmed kinda life by @griddlebait. jesuchristo and all his middle names this fic is GREAT for you if you want a slice of life, coming of age type modern au that explores what its like for gideon and harrow if they actually got the space to see who theyd become outside of the stifling fate tlt has for them. as far as modern aus go im usually very hesitant to read them because im afraid modernizing the characters takes features away from their core but i really love and respect the way the author treats the 69ers with care and draws distinct lines that shows me how their grow and change while keeping a line to the anchor. also they write HIDEOUS (complimentary) PINING. DISGUSTING. some of these chapters were so chock full of dyke drama that they made me nauseous and whimsical. i think once a friend said this fic felt like if gh could be reincarnated and i like that descriptor a lot
til the cows come home is another postcanon fic that made me feel sick and crybabyish about it- i would definitely recommend it if you want to explore a happier ending with griddlehark! with this and what if nona was dogs the thing i like most about them is that they mix up vulnerability with pain and fear, so it feels more lifelike that way if that makes sense. i lost my taste in fluff fics over time but when its interspersed with struggle and characters causing problems because they cant cope with themselves it feels much more earnest and raw
this became very long. im not sorry

Having a relationship between Mike Schmidt and Steve Raglan
Having to share a relationship between Mike Schmidt and Steve Raglan would be interesting (SFW & NSFW) hihi Enjoy!
Tumblr media
SFW
If a romantic entanglement involving Mike, Steve, and yourself were ever to materialize, it's worth noting that they aren't particularly keen on sharing. Especially if one of them feels that they  monopolizing their time with you a little too much. You see, to them, you serve as both entertainment and a source of distraction to maintain their sanity.
Steve had a distinctive approach to relationships. He relished role-playing scenarios and enjoyed seeing you play the role of a devoted partner. Upon returning from work, he had an expectation that you would have dinner prepared for him upon his arrival. That meant, dressing like a wife and being meticulously responsible with your duty.
Steve had a deep appreciation for your culinary skills. Every Friday, as a gesture of gratitude for your kindness and domestic attentiveness, he would order takeout on his way home. This package usually included a thoughtful card, a bouquet of flowers, and a bottle of wine. And each evening would often culminate in a relaxed yet passionate encounter.
In contrast to Steve, Mike had a completely different perspective. Having faced numerous challenges in his life, he viewed you as the love of his life. This sentiment often translated into him tenderly embracing you, wrapping his arms around your waist when he returned home from work, eagerly anticipating dinner. His guilt for not assisting with meal preparations weighed on him, but you, understanding how exhausted he was, firmly insisted that he relax and even allowed him to rest his head on your shoulder.
While you appreciated his efforts to assist you, you also took pleasure in witnessing his relaxation. It was a rare sight, the way he would occasionally sneak a kiss from you, even when you pretended to be asleep before he headed off to work. It was these small gestures that brought him great joy. Sometimes, they led to extended cuddling sessions that seemed to stretch for hours, only to be interrupted by the reminder that he had to return to work.
NSFW
Dry Humping :
This was a favorite experience for both of them. Mike, in particular, preferred a gentle and unhurried approach. He took pleasure in watching the gradual blush deepen on your cheeks with each tender moment. The subtle friction between your lingerie and the warmth of his clothing held a special allure for Mike. Let's just say that Mike reveled in intimate moments that were passionate and unhurried. In fact, there were times when he was so exhausted that he willingly relinquished control to you. When he returned home from work, he'd head straight to his room, a subtle invitation for you to join him. You'd often find him already asleep, lying on his back, his face turned towards you with closed eyes. Sometimes, the sensations of your movements would stir him, leaving you in suspense, unable to discern whether he was truly asleep or not. This ambiguity added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience for both of you.
For Steve, it was the complete opposite. Whenever he was engrossed in work or engaged in a call with a client, you would stealthily enter his office, taking extra care to make no noise that might raise suspicion. This clandestine rendezvous was something Steve found quite enjoyable. As you approached him, it was you who would assert control before he had a chance to resist. Only once the calls and other tasks were completed would he finally wrap his arms around your petite waist. The sensation of your clothes rubbing against each other would gradually intensify, transitioning from a slow pace to something more urgent. Your voice would fill the room, calling out his name, as he leaned in to explore the curve of your neck, his full lips eagerly exploring every inch they could reach.
Peaking :
Mike typically wasn't one to sneak a peek, but when he was truly captivated, you couldn't underestimate his curiosity. His fascination often went a bit overboard whenever you entered the same room as him. You began to notice this when you returned late from your job at the local canteen, still wearing the uniform that your boss required all waitresses to wear. Exhausted from your long day, you inadvertently forgot to lock the door while changing, and this presented an unexpected opportunity for Mike. Although he had seen a naked body before, it was his way of expressing his deep admiration for you. While it may have seemed a bit strange at the beginning of your relationship, you eventually grew to appreciate how his eyes would light up as each piece of clothing was removed. Even the subtle moments, like when you knelt down to retrieve something you had dropped, only to find Mike discreetly stealing a glance, became endearing in their own way.
Steve had a more uninhibited approach to peeking. While Mike would either request it in advance or on specific occasions, Steve didn't bother with such formalities. In fact, he often indulged in discreet glances in your direction whenever you made any kind of movement. Whether you were bending down to pick something up from the floor or leaning forward to him, providing him with an enticing view of your cleavage, Steve didn't hold back. Sometimes, when Steve visited the Pizzeria where you worked, your role as his employee also meant being at his beck and call for whatever he desired that evening. As the boss, he expected you to accommodate his requests, and if that involved being a source of temptation for him, he was sure to make it abundantly clear.
Intercourse :
Mike had a preference for unhurried and passionate encounters. He wasn't inclined to opt for quickies, and if the thought ever crossed his mind, it was likely during a moment of urgency. In general, he favored languid and intimate sessions, whether it was in the morning, sometimes in the shower, or at night especially if you managed to steal away to the Pizzeria to entice him. He was the kind of lover who left you in a state of lingering desire, a reminder of who you belonged to, without being overly rough and leaving you sometimes when he dared to with a hint of looping tease. However, if he did go a bit too far, which you didn't mind at all. In fact, you found his earnest apologies endearing, and it even added an extra layer of intimacy to your relationship. To this, Mike didn't raise any objections.
Steve, on the other hand, had a fondness for the intensity of quick and passionate encounters. He took pleasure in witnessing your eyes roll back in ecstasy as your bodies ignited with desire, feeling your fingernails dig into his skin, leaving their mark all over you. Steve delighted in the idea of demonstrating that you were unequivocally his, regardless of the setting, even if it meant a hasty encounter in a department store's changing room. While he wasn't particularly keen on public spaces, your fascination with them was one of your fantasies that deeply aroused him, pushing him to explore more daring encounters, including in his office. Steve wasn't hesitant to leave tender red marks on your buttocks, eliciting your passionate pleas and cries for his name, often rendering you unable to move the next day. This, in turn, led to teasing and left you blushing intensely, with a pout that invited a mischievous grin to dance across his face.
After care :
Mike was incredibly nurturing and affectionate when it came to post-intimacy care. After both of you had reached the peak of pleasure, and with exhaustion from your busy days taking over, you often found yourselves napping for extended periods. His lips would tenderly pepper your warm skin, repeating declarations of love for you. Sometimes, he'd suggest taking a soothing shower together, and on other occasions, he'd wrap his arms around you to cuddle for hours, all the while engaging in lighthearted conversations about life and sharing silly dad jokes. This would often result in Mike monopolizing the conversation, but he would always pause to place a gentle kiss on your lips, his fingers tracing gentle circles on your body, conveying a desire to hold onto that intimate moment for as long as possible.
Despite Steve's dominant and somewhat sadistic tendencies, he possessed a unique and caring side, which may have seemed peculiar to some but was endearing to you. After an intimate session, he would tenderly scoop you up in a bridal style if you happened to be at home. Steve would then prepare a soothing, warm bath for both of you, complete with a glass of wine, all in an effort to pamper and clean you. He'd wash away any traces of the session and proceed to plant more kisses on your skin, as though the ones he had left earlier weren't sufficient. You couldn't help but chuckle at the sensation of his plump lips caressing your soft skin, especially as the warm bathwater enveloped both of you. Steve had a penchant for the simpler pleasures in life, and if a bath and some extra cuddling brought happiness to your world, it was all that truly mattered to him.

nonchalant x crashout
pt2
Tumblr media
katsuki x reader, shoto x reader, same stuff as last time
pt 1 : ♡
Tumblr media
K Bakugou -
In the following weeks, you found yourself observing Katsuki Bakugou more.
Now don't be mistaken, you were on a level incomprehensible to most Pros, let alone civilians or trainees. Even slight details and changes in the atmosphere set each neuron in your head off. A skill for analyzing the situations around you seemed to ironically be embedded in your bones. Everything just clicked and snapped into place. Every bit of information had joints connecting it, and muscle backing it up.
So, why, is someone like you, growing so frustrated over someone like him ? Its not like you were really upset, though. You didn't let silly things get to you, right ? You didn't care THAT much. It just so happened in the brief interactions you had, and noting his actions and how they varied upon person, you sorta.... began studying him. Truly the embodiment of being unbothered.
But don't worry ! Really, its only to figure out how to beat him. You technically lost to him, its only fair you learn from him for future scenarios. A part of the cold uncaring nature in you started getting caught up on something. Katsuki Bakugou was slowly but surely creeping his way into your subconscious thought process.
It didn't even really need to be romantic, not on either side. A deeper level of needing, and a pure desperation to make up for the previous failure bubbled up until it was boiling over in every day class. Him bickering at you, and you continuing to fuel it by acting smart. Eventually he started needing to deactivate your quirks. As Aizawa remembered, he regretted rushing the training battle in hindsight. He originally organized it to avoid further complicated feelings, but it seemed it did nothing but instigate it. A few months in, and class 2-A already had their official troublemakers.
It took a while, but it was time to get back into work studies. Although the rate of villains was steadily decreasing thanks to countless pros, and students in this very class, the work for a Hero never ended. Midoriya and Bakugou had been invited back to the new #1 Hero's agency this year, as they'd proved themselves capable many times, and were dear to Shoto. A number of other students already had go-to agencies to work with, so there were only a few who worried about what to do. While you weren't personally worried about finding or getting into an agency program, the idea of being behind threw you off. But despite what you felt, no distinct expression of it showed.
In what wasnt too surprising to anyone, you and Todoroki quickly became friends. Your similar personalities drew you together when the others became too energetic for either one of UAs quiet types. And while Shoto struggled greatly in the beginning to socialize and make friends, his process shined brightly with you.
This time around, Endeavor was more open to having more work study students. There weren't the same threats looming over japan, and he was sure his son wouldn't suggest someone who'd only slow them down. Somehow, Shoto didn't need to convince him. You of course, politely accepted and thanked the Todoroki family formally. Always so proper !
It was a few minutes short of seven in the morning, and at the time you waited in the UA Dorm common areas until your respective classmates were ready. Although you had done professional Hero work as a first year in highschool, it wasn't under standard circumstances. This would be your first time participating in an actual work study. You weren't one to fight or argue brashly, if something needed to be done you could suck it up. You knew as well, despite being obedient on the outside, a great struggle you had was maintaining a team group for prolonged periods. You'd done research to prepare, and decided that worst comes worst, your quirk can do the heavy lifting.
You honestly had expected Shoto to be the first awake and out, seeming to always be very on schedule. It's not that he was late, no, he came at the exact time in fact. Its just you didnt really expect Bakugou to be the first one out.
Neither of you planned on saying anything, but the moment both of you registered who the other was, the tension became heavy.
He really wanted to talk to you. To start a fight of course. Your blank face was starting to piss him off. You rarely wandered your eyes, focusing them on one point at the wall until someone directly called for your attention. So no matter how much he glared at you, you didn't even seem to notice his attitude. If you did, you definitely didn't care.
Katsuki was the first to lose the silent, literally unspoken, battle. In a show of who could ignore each other better, he proved he couldn't leave you alone already.
"Didn't expect me to be up so early ? Did ya ?" His voice was still slightly raspier than during the days, but still maintained a stubborn bull-like ego.
You didn't respond, or even turn your head. From the corner of your eyes, you shifted your vision to view the blonde's over the top attitude. Its way too early for this.
Your gaze lasted for a second, before going back to its resting position. Damnit, you wouldn't even look at him now. This work study is going to be hell.
Funnily enough, Katsuki was right about it being hell, but in the end really only for himself.
The perpetrator had a very specific, but strong quirk when utilized. Two shrines representing the users life line allowed them to create a hypothetical bridge between locations. This was being used for quick getaways during robberies or other crimes. It didn't help, that in the vicinity of the shrine, the user's power and strength would be amplified. He was truly a well rounded criminal in terms of plan and proof.
One of Endeavors side kicks, Burnin, continued to elaborate on the quirk. The shrines couldnt be moved easily, so there could only be one distinct passage per few weeks.
The issue was now, every time the Pros had found a solid lead on the locations, the shrines would disappear, leaving only trace evidence to confirm it was there. As of now, they only had general location ideas of where the quirk was activated. They believe one to be on the outskirts of the city, the exit of sorts. The other is thought to be in the crowded and more compact streets. Hidden in plain sight.
The shrine had just been moved two days ago, and they needed to work quick to make up their leads again. Endeavor paired up his sidekicks according to their own history and abilities. He turned to the four students ahead of him, and seemed to put a bit less thought into the teaming this time.
"Shoto ! With me. Together we will find his city shrine location and raid his hideout using his own quirk." He was caught up in his dialogue and fantasy of fighting with his son, he forgot about the three others. "Oh. You three pair up and search the city borders."
This quickly set off half the group. You couldnt care less, you had a job to do and nothing was stopping that. Midoriya seemed to agree, just pleased to be doing hero work.
Shoto and Katsuki, however, threw tantrums in sync. It was kinda cute. Todoroki adamantly refused to work alone with his father, leaving the man no choice but to let him and Izuku to pair up.
On the other hand, Bakugou was in the middle of freaking out about working with "these losers." Endeavor, beginning to get annoyed now, made it clear he was going to work with you, and there wasnt any way out of it. Katsuki quickly shut up after that.
While most of the team was within the city, tracking down any leads or suspects, you and your personal bomb shifted through the bordering woods.
Bakugou, for someone who wanted to seem all big and bad, turned out to be.. so unserious. Well, he thought he was being intimidating, but when you see his explosive personality contrasting such an otherwise peaceful night, you couldn't help but show a hint of amusement for the first time since joining UA.
Large trees encapsulated a thin fog, swirling slowly beneath the full moon's illuminated rays. Emerald leaves hung heavy and full on each Weeping Willow, often overlapping with other branches from neighboring earth.
And underneath the natural leaf arch the forest presented, a blonde boy, certainly no older than 17, was scratching and kicking at a large, mossy rock. His booming voice shamelessly echoed in rage as the Great Explosion Murder God: Dynamight, fought against a rock.
In the middle of aiming an explosion to hit the rock from beneath, he stopped when he heard an unfamiliar sound. A muffled voice rang through his head, albeit being an extremely quiet one.
He looked back, eyes showing a clear look of shock as he saw you release a strained laugh into your palm. "So..sorry" Your voice was wavering, as if youd die if you became any louder. It was almost like you physically couldn't show such loud expressions.
He looked around him, and quickly shifted his position trying to figure out what was going on. "Whats so damn funny ? Huh ?" While he didn't act pleased, there didn't seem to be any direct hostility.
When he said this, for just a second longer, you wanted to observe how the moonlight made him appear so much softer. The sage green leaves fluttering behind him made the orange X plastered on his chest look so much bigger. While trailing your eyes up to meet his, for about 0.5 of a second, your breath was caught on how shiny his cherry eyes were when he wasnt popping a blood vessel.
To Katsuki, this whole ordeal lasted just short of two seconds, before you stiffened up again.
"Be quiet." You said straight, flat. He grumbled, that was the most you'd spoken the entire time, just to boss him around ? Just as he was about to get instinctively louder, you elaborated just a tiny bit.
"Other people are here." You were annoyed now, you hated talking, let alone explaining things further. What a dumbass you got stuck with.
You two carefully scanned the shadows beyond the first few rows of the trees, searching for whoever you thought was there.
"There." Bakugou smirked, his palm beginning to crackle. Your eyes shot to his line of vision. Sure enough, if you squinted, the dark silhouette of three people were huddled behind a just too small bush.
You and Katsuki wasted no time quietly, but quickly stalking up to the group, ready to finish this mission now. As you got closer, you heard light voices mumbling to each other. You stopped for a moment, trying to decipher what they were saying, but Bakugou didn't get the memo as he practically stomped on a twig, a large snap giving away the two teens.
Much to both of your surprise though, it was matched with three high pitched screams, clearly from young women of sorts. When you and Katsuki looked closer beyond the echoing of siren like yells, you were shocked to see Nejire, Froppy, And Uravity.
They seemed relieved, but didnt calm down much. "Get down !" They whispered, while Uraraka pulled you and Bakugou down. You blinked at the contact, trying to process the ruthless speed things were unfolding. Katsuki attempted to yell at the touch, but was shut up when Nejire began to explain things.
"You're here looking for the shrines, right ?" You and Bakugou looked at each other briefly, before nodding. You figured if Endeavor was taking it on, there wasn't any need for further assistance. "We are too ! We found a shrine near Ryuku's Agency, and found leads connecting the second to these woods."
"Yea, cool, nothing we don't know, what's the point ? You're wasting our time." Froppy and Uraraka nervously smiled at Bakugous rough attitude. Of course.. Tsu continued,
"We just ran into the perpetrator ! Hes a lot stronger than we anticipated. We came here to make a plan, im sure we can still take him down, especially if we have you helping us, (Name)."
"Hey !" Bakugou snapped, "What about me ?!" He looked like a dog about to break out of his muzzle. Fuck, he hated this damn mission ! It was already annoying with you, but now these extras were in the way ! Honestly, it was better with just you two.
.. Damn he hated admitting that, even if it was just in his head.
Ochako laughed, "Dont worry, just let us tell you the plan. Trust me, you have a chance to fight."
While explaining the plan, they went over his quirk in detail. Now you understood in depth how his quirk worked, and how to take him down efficiently. Though, youd need to hold back for the overall plan to work. You didn't mind working with this group, surprisingly. The girls were super sweet, and Bakugou was Bakugou, but he was strong and effective. Despite clashing with his personality, you respected his skill. Besides, you got along super well with Nejire, Ochako, and Tsu ! Is this making new friends ? It has to be heaven ! Despite how happy you felt, none of it was picked up on by the others.
As soon they explained the material and how it worked, you knew exactly what you needed to do. Nejire put her Spiral Output to 30%, twisting the sunny glow throughout the inky dark sky. Despite the circumstances, it was undoubtedly a beautiful sight.
It ended quicker than it started, an intricate bridge of bones extending through the clouds and fog, covering up and killing the energy waves.
You extended a hand, body in perfect form but relaxed and fluid. The skin wrist down seemed to fade, and an xray view of your bones shone through with a pink tinted incandescence. The gleam flickered every time the bone board the tall villain walked upon, snapped. His eyes widened. Never once since developing this ability had the structure broke.
He excused it as a fluke, surely just a coincidence. But his eyes widened in a horrified realization that with no question, this bridge was going to burn. The next four boards twisted and cracked inhumanly, turning to shards when his foot tapped it.
He went to retreat, but an output power of 90% released Nejires sharp waves to spiral at the path in front of the shrine creator. His bridge, the quirk manifestation of the physically built shrine, was now broken, leaving his physical enhancements only reachable where his second shrine was. He now only had one bridge, one escape. He needed to be quick.
He changed direction to avoid the twisting attack, and his eyes laid on you. Hand out stretched, he observed the clearly bone related quirk powering through your movement. He shot out an arrow of bone, he pushed it with his all, hoping to hit you before you could activate anything. He simultaneously began to form his last resort, the only bridge he had left faded in with every leap he took, just about to get away. He was forming it just as he moved, becoming just stable enough to hold him for his next step.
Time seemed to slow, you knew you couldn't hesitate. Your other hand rose, and accepted the arrow, molding the extra stability of it to your own quirk and bone. The mixture of bone and quirk factor gave you a clearer idea of the blueprint the bridge was being built with.
"Thank you," Your other hand began to rapid fire snaps and crushing force towards the bridge, even before it fully formed. "I wasn't sure how I was going to break these when you were stepping on them the second of formation." You smiled condescendingly. Usually you wouldn't say so much, but it wasn't often you got to so perfectly show off your quirk.
The bits began to scatter, there wasn't any form or connection between them. The space that used to be his unbreakable path became blank air with remains of bone. He didn't look down yet.
All he had to do was avoid the spirals now, and run into the shadow. He could still dodge a pointed attack, right ? He didn't have time to doubt himself, because who, in that position, would've had time to dodge a direct explosion ?
Katsuki grinned madly, finally getting rid of the sweat he'd been building up since being alone with you. He loved getting his chance to shine. Literally, he couldnt stop the bright explosions, especially upon using his cluster attack to throw him into the air.
Once propelled into the sky, defenseless, Ochako used her GunHead Material arts knowledge to chokehold him down, and applied Zero-Gravity to him. Tsu extended her tongue, and wrapped the now captured villain into a tight temporary jail. There was no way of escaping now. It was an undoubtable victory.
While Katsuki should've been happy with the win, an intrusive, unfamiliar feeling prodded at his chest. He compared it to the feeling of wanting to win by himself, but couldn't exactly put his finger on what it was. This is hell, he thought.
nevertheless, a perfect mission, by all means ! Though, as Aizawa read through the report, a given for any responsible teacher, he wondered how this would affect the two Endeavor work agency students. They held a strong urge to prove themselves better than the other. And while taking down something together is nice, he suspected the urge to conquer the other would only grow more tempting after seeing what the other was really capable of.
This school year was already making him tired..
S Todoroki -
Todoroki spent all of his time studying, and training. He couldn't be bothered to fall behind in academics now, it was a given to exceed. As for training, he pushed himself to his limits often, practicing for when hed have to let his frost over take.
Throughout his days, he idly considered ways to beat the stronger students in class 1-A. While writing down math equations during Ectoplasms, his mind wandered to you and your abilities.
Teleportation was most likely your quirk based on how you'd acted at the USJ. It was shown to be strong, and is a classic power in old hero films. You had potential. But unfortunately for you, he was already planning on how to defeat you.
He was lifting weights in the gym past hours, reviewing what he knew about you. He kept feeling stuck. He just didn't know enough. Everyone else had put their all into it during the assessment test. Their quirks and physical form were all set on stage to shine.
But you. You used raw physical skill to rise to the top. You only used your quirk to leverage your pure strength. It could prove to be troublesome.
As he curled the weight up to meet the height of his shoulder, the wide doors opened and speak of the devil (literally), you stomped in.
"Frosty," You spat, harsh glare pointed at him upon arrival. "Shoot ice at me as quickly as possible."
He stared at you blankly. "Are you deaf ?!" You shouted, hand thrown onto your hip. It was clear you were going out of your way to not punch anything.
Instead of responding, he waved his hand to summon in a sharp attack of ice. You smoothly dodged it, not activating your quirk. "Is that all you got ? So slow."
His brows furrowed, and began to shoot out multiple waves of ice, attempting to atleast get you to activate your quirk.
You quickly contorted your body, avoiding each flash of spear-like ice from grazing you. You were fast and flexible, the end of your physical abilities seemed to have no transition into the need for your quirk.
Todoroki wished, hypocritically, that youd use your teleportation already, and that he could use his fire in times like these.
"Im getting sick of this pace." You shouted, officially fed up with the two toned boys held back speed. You began to not just dodge, but use a mix of fierce kicks and punches to break through the ice walls he put up as you made your way closer to him.
Your pace sped up, just a few more broken attacks and youd reach him. This was just supposed to be a casual weight training practice, he didnt really want to get punched by you.
Begrudgingly, he sped up his ice blasts, frost beginning to stick to his skin. All things considered, it was at least good training to piss of #2.
Eventually, one of his pillars caught your ankle, your body falling as it was stuck mid air by blood chilling ice. "Fuck you.."
"You asked for it to be faster." He said, confused on why you were getting further upset. He didnt dwell on it, though. Especially not when you finally used your quirk. Now that you were this up close, he saw clearly how your teleportation worked.
He first felt flustered, just now really noticing how pretty you actually were. Sure, there wasnt any doubt that you were beautiful, but hed been caught up on your attitude. But when you finally activated your quirk, body dissipating into a condensed form of particles, before reforming in a different spot behind him, he thought you looked the best.
The next day, he debated asking Midoriya if he had any notes on you or your quirk. He couldn't find it in him. It seemed too embarrassing to ask the 'enemy' for help. Even so, he didn't really need to ask Midoriya about you, as you clearly weren't over last night.
Once you teleported out, hed already figured out the speed needed to catch you. After wearing down your quirk, he managed to catch you for the last time that night.
You were both panting, roughly gasping for air. Your body was numb and head light from the constant movement, and Shoto was starting to feel unbearably cold and frostbitten with his quirk.
Although the fight ended then that night, you two became regular training buddies. You needed someone who could keep up with your speed, whilst he needed someone who could take attack after attack. You two were making a scary weapon.
Each night, you trained, and trained, running out of harsh words to scream. Eventually, you fell into a peaceful silence while practicing what you both knew best. Despite it being a fight, it felt soft in an uncomfortably sweet way.
It was quite shocking for the rest of your class when you first publicly paired together for training at will.
"They're surprisingly useful to practice endurance with." ---- "He's obsessed with me ! Can't even train without me now !"
'What a duo..' Things would be a lot more interesting now, though. That was one hope class 1-A held. That being said, as you two began training, they quickly realized why you two worked so well together. You both were shooting rapid attacks, one they doubted anyone else would be able to keep up with for so long. You supported yet fought each other at the same time. It was a fighting style Izuku personally couldn't wait to study.
None of that mattered currently, however. The UA Sports Festival had just begun, and everyone was eachother enemy. Your first task was an Obstacle race. Behind the metal, red outlined door, the stage to prove yourself as #1 waited for you. As the last second left the timer, everyone, hero course, general, and support courses alike all pushed forward towards their goal.
Many were pressed and pushing against eachother, struggling to get through due to the sheer amount of people. Shoto watched carefully as you made small teleportations towards the exit. He wasted no time, he needed to catch up to his training partner how his always would. A sheet of ice encapsulated the floor, and many students legs. However, you and a few other 1-A members found ways to keep going, using his ice to break ahead of others.
You kept running ahead, wasting no time teleporting mid air to avoid the iced floor. You and him were face to face. It was odd, Todoroki was always supposed to be a competitor, but after night after night training together, you weren't sure if you should yell at him as you usually would. You'd gotten too used to the quiet evenings and study sessions.
But you didnt have the time to think about it. You noticed familiar robots from the entrance exam. How pathetic, couldnt they afford anything harder ? Either way, It was helpful in terms of going ahead Todoroki. He hadn't competed with them, getting in through recommendations.
This was the perfect opportunity, leaving him and the others to deal with the massive threats, you teleported in-between them swiftly, racing ahead of everyone else. "Ill prove im the best," You spat, "Get killed by this !" You kicked one down onto Todoroki before he activated his ice, leaving before hearing the crash.
Later on, you were informed it didn't do that much to him, as he managed to dodge and use the concept to place the other machines off balance. At the moment, however, it didn't matter. You were in first place by a long shot, and with a perfect, almost inhumane pace, you ran ahead of everyone's expectations towards the finish line.
Youd already passed obstacles like the cliff gap easily with your quirk, wasting no time activating it in singular intervals when needed.
By the time youd caught up to the land mines, Todoroki and a few others had caught up. You grinned, sadistically happy that Todoroki was carefully shuffling through the feild while you teleported from safe spot to spot. Despite it being a race for #1 and a race against everyone participating, you felt your motivation swelling hardest when you thought about Shoto.
Katsuki, your otherwise worst enemy got involved however blasting through at a monstrous speed. You were annoyed, but kept looking ahead. He had thrown Todoroki off, and made himself a close second place to you. You'd let yourself get caught up on your training partner, as he actually benefited you, you thought. Bakugou, however, was just a loud mouthed angry animal ! Nothing like you, of course.
You looked behind to see him running on a small safe path. You looked at the end, and saw the mark of one of the bombs. You grinned. You loved making things messy.
You looked back at him, to see he was prepared to jump at you just before hitting the mine to avoid impact. It didn't matter though. Not when you were in it for the love of the game.
To anyone else, the concept of hitting a mine then leaving wasnt possible, it was an instant reaction. But you had the ability to instantly be gone from any scene.
Just as he grabbed you, you stepped your foot onto the explosion pad, teleporting out of his grasp, and onto the next obstacle as he got blown back. It seemed Midoriya was beginning to catch up, but you could deal with his weak ass later. You just needed to stay ahead.
The four of you were officially about to reach the end, all competing ruthlessly against each other for the win. A drive compelled you all. You found yourself still in first. You smiled wildly, ready to rub it in every losers face before..
'Deku', The insulting nickname your "twin" came up for him in his childhood, threw the metal plate, a technological piece of the robot from earlier, into your ankle at a slight right spin. Fuck. You were mistaken. That freckled boy was not weak by any means.
You came in just barely before Shoto, pissing the boy off even further. Had training with you even been beneficial ? He didn't just lose, but he lost to you, and at 3rd place. If you were ready to beat someone up, then Shoto was about ready to kill.
The calvary battle was a nice escape from your growing tension. During the entire obstacle race, Todoroki felt stuck behind you, forced at the #2 spot while you greedily held onto #1. But in the end, both of you fell short of Izuku, and the Calvary battle presented the perfect chance for revenge.
It was extremely intense, but proved helpful for the both of you. Shoto, though who kept it to himself, had to concentrate extra, trying to ignore how sturdy you were while holding him in the air. Youd never really touched, and this was a new feeling for Shoto, though he wasnt sure why. You proved more useful than anticipated. He hadn't known you could teleport others with you.
And while you ended up eventually winning against your main rival, and finishing in 1st place by no doubt, it didnt help the ongoing urge to win the sports festival and crush the loser.. well you were more so about the violent crushing, he mainly was focused on winning against you effectively at most.
In the second to last match to determine the years UA Sports Festival winner, you and Shoto Todoroki were up against eachother.
"You beat me in the race, but I will not let you beat me in this match." He said sternly, waiting for the match to officially begin.
"Watch your mouth, ill turn you to dust." You smiled. After watching how strong he could fight just for training, you were excited to see him go all out on you. You couldnt wait to beat him.
In the bigger picture, this round was actually the longest out of anyone's. Back and fourth, back and fourth, the audience watched you two fight and clash for dominance on the field. You two were honed in on the others technique, rarely making a mistake when handling the battle.
His great waves of ice would attempt to immobilize you, or throw you out of the stadium, but you always teleported quickly enough behind him to get a few good hits in. But just as youd begin to break him down too much, an ice enforced impact would push you away, leaving you to dodge his next attack again.
Damn. He was starting to feel weak, after his battle with Midoriya, he really didn't want to use his fire power. But his ice was proving to be useless, you could teleport from it with nothing such as a scratch.
You laughed, pushing him back with your foot, kicking him to the edge of the battle line. Fuck. He felt a part of him start to panic. "Ill show you what a winner looks like, Todoroki !"
However, in your rush of confidence, you failed to realize just how close he was to the line. Just another kick would have declared you the winner, but in a state of pure desire for a landslide of a victory against your opponent, you recklessly teleported behind him, prepared to attack from out of his vision.
Unfortunately, you'd teleported yourself just outside of the line..
You practically growled, about ready to explode when Present Mics mocking voice commented on your losing mistake. There was no fucking way this is happening ! Your furious, but yet icy eyes shot to Shoto, who seemed more shocked than anything.
"Ugh.. Ill kill you, you half-n-half bitch !" You screamed, about ready to actually kill a bystander.
On his face a slight smile appeared, 'sure you will..' he thought, finally coming to terms with his admiration for you. You really were giving it your all until the end.
'All that training was worth it.' He was sure.

Weird thought I had while working on an answer to that list of Salty Asks:
Does anyone else feel like Hazel is just a bit... undercooked, as a villain? At least when compared to Cinder, Tyrian and Watts.
To be clear, I'm not saying he's a bad character. He's got his great moments and his whole arc and conflict with Oscar and Ozpin is solid. It's more that he doesn't exactly have the same presence as a VILLAIN like the others.
Now you can certainly argue that this is part of the POINT of his character; that he's not actually a bad person and is being manipulated via his grief and anger by Salem. But particularly looking back in hindsight that kind of puts him in a position of the villain we're all just waiting to have his big change of heart and switch sides. Even as early as Volume 4, Hazel was pretty obviously the 'least-villainous villain' of Salem's crew, and he never really stops being that. He never really even DOES anything all that real overtly villainous. Well, aside from the all the child-punching.
Plus this ties into an even bigger contrast/sorta-issue: Looking back at Salem's inner circle, Hazel has this distinct 'What do you actually DO here?' vibe compared to everyone else.
Cinder, Tyrian and Watts? Each of them have very clear REASONS why Salem would want to recruit them, particularly in hindsight:
Cinder is Salem's loyal Maiden, key to the Vaults and possibly part of her Grimm-Hybrid experiments.
Tyrian is an absolutely deadly and fanatically loyal murder machine.
Watts is the absolute hard counter to ALL things Atlisian. And also tech support.
And Hazel is, uh... extra muscle, I guess?
You see what I mean, right? Why exactly DID Salem recruit Hazel specifically?
There's even an argument that each of Salem's four underlings have qualities specifically geared towards getting Salem one of the Relics:
Cinder is obviously the Fall Maiden who can open the Vault of Choice. Watts, again, is the secret weapon to cracking open Atlas to get at the Vault of Creation. And we may find out that Tyrian's skills make him particularly effective in Vacuo.
So then... HOW exactly was Hazel specifically meant to help get the Lamp of Knowledge? Again, when you look back at the Battle of Haven at the end of Volume 5, it feels like he was just there to be extra muscle.
Now I don't think all this is a huge problem for Hazel. Like I said at the start, I think as a character he's pretty solid and has a great arc and payoff.
I guess it's more that when compared to a lot of the rest of RWBY's villains, especially his three co-henchmen to the big bad, Hazel feels a bit underdeveloped/toothless.

A Night with Tesla: The Future of Electrical Resonance
Tumblr media
(This narrative is a creative reimagining of a 1901 interview with Nikola Tesla, titled "Tesla's Twentieth-Century Views," originally penned by Frank L. Perry for the Western Electrician. Presented from a first-person perspective, this piece offers a fun and immersive experience while preserving Tesla's original words about resonance and the future of energy.)
Late one Friday evening in January of 1901, I found myself at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, sitting down with the legendary inventor, Nikola Tesla. The setting was grand, but Tesla seemed entirely focused, undistracted by the opulence around him. I had been eager to ask him about his latest thoughts on the future of electrical energy, particularly the concept of resonance, or as Tesla often referred to it, “electrical tuning.”
With a mix of excitement and curiosity, I asked, “From your own investigations with high-frequency currents and the transmission of electrical energy, it seems that there’s a great future along these lines. Does the question of ‘electrical tuning’ become a most important one? Will this direct the progress of scientific discoveries in the next decade?”
Tesla leaned forward slightly, his eyes bright with conviction. “You have put a question,” he began, “which not only is of great importance in many arts of the present day, but also throughout the mechanism of the universe. The phenomena of sound and light afford striking examples. I believe that ultimately even nerve action will be proven to involve the principles of ‘sympathetic response.’” His thoughts were as bold as they were profound, suggesting that the very nature of life and nerve function operated on the same principles as electrical resonance.
He continued, “In my own experiments with electrical and mechanical vibrations, I’ve been impressed by the tremendous possibilities. With a small engine capable of pressing a piston back and forth with a force of just two pounds, I once set an entire block of modern buildings into such violent swaying that people rushed out terrified. And this was done through precise attunement.”
As he spoke, I found myself captivated by the simplicity of his explanation, despite the staggering implications. Tesla didn’t stop with mechanical resonance. He went on to explain his even more astonishing work in electrical vibration. “In electrical vibration,” he said, “I have frequently obtained results that were even more wonderful. The tuning of electric circuits is becoming increasingly important as the arts advance and methods refine. The layman can only have a vague idea of what can be accomplished in this line by those who possess the knowledge and skill.”
I asked him about this skill—how one could master such an art. “Knowledge of the principles is easy enough to acquire,” he admitted, “and one of the best sources of information on the subject comes from Prof. Pupin, whose work makes it accessible even to a beginner. But skill—now that takes patience and untiring dedication.”
The conversation turned to the challenges of refining electrical circuits for optimal resonance. Tesla explained, “Many experimenters don’t realize that an electrical system cannot vibrate freely through an imperfect contact or high resistance. It’s like trying to get a spring to vibrate while holding it firmly—it simply won’t happen.”
He paused for a moment, as though he was envisioning the future even as he spoke. “The transmission of electrical energy through the earth offers the greatest possibilities of development. The time is not far off when electrical oscillations will speed through the globe, each separate and distinct, fulfilling its mission. It’s a seemingly simple subject, but as you advance, it feels as if the wide ocean is opening up before your eyes.”
As we concluded, Tesla recalled an experiment from five years prior, where he had successfully “tuned” 150 circuits, calling each one in turn without disturbing the others. “At the time, I thought I had mastered the art,” he smiled, “but now I see that I was only just beginning to learn.”
Leaving that evening, I felt that I had been granted a rare glimpse into the mind of a true visionary, a man who saw the universe as a symphony of vibrations, with every element perfectly attuned. What Tesla envisioned wasn’t just a technological future—it was a harmonious one. And as we move further into the twentieth century, I can’t help but wonder how much of his grand vision we’ll soon witness.

Hii!!
NPC series enjoyer here✨️
Hope you're having a good day💕
I saw that there're some npc fics in work (wish you a lot of inspiration for them), but i wanted to know if requests are open. Cus i just saw Hikueru from Natlan and oh boy, i would be lying if i said that guy is not almost exactly my type
So yeah👉👈
When I tell you that I have like 4 WIPs for Natlan NPCs, so doing one that I kinda wanted to (because I have an idea for Hikueru and Marokau) is more than fine. His VA has such a nice voice.
Hikueru x Scions of the Canopy! Adventurous! reader
Being from Scions of Canopy reader is a little adrenaline junkie, and can already swim
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had visited the People of the Springs a few times, mainly because of the hot springs. You were curious about them and if their special qualities were just rumours or not. Each visit was a small escape, from your active life. A moment to unwind after performing any of the extreme sports that were a distinctive trait of the tribe you came from. You quickly discovered that the rumors were true - the waters were indeed magical, at least they seemed, they felt really great and helped you relax almost immediately.
During those visits, you met a certain person who caught your attention every time. You could easily say it was because of the pretty smile Hikueru sent in your direction. With each stop at the Springs tribe, you became a little closer, exchanging a few words and pleasantries.
Then came the day you decided to learn something new, and with so many visits to the southern tribe, you decided on surfing. Previously you saw people catching the waves and performing amazing tricks and it interested you and made you want to do that as well. So you sought out Mualani, knowing she was a skilled surfer but when you approached her and told her about your request and even offered to pay for the lessons, she only smiled widely. The happy expression confused you the moment she said she couldn't do it because she was busy, but she would point you to someone who would certainly help you. You thanked her and she told you where to go, not mentioning the name of the man but saying you would know who she meant as soon as you noticed him.
As soon as you came to the place Mualani mentioned your eyes stopped at a familiar figure of Hikueru. You weren't sure if you should curse or thank the girl for directing you in here. Nevertheless, you stepped closer to him and greeted him with a smile. You told him all about the request and how Mualani sent you to him making him freeze in place at the mention of her name but soon he nodded with a smile. "So when would you like to meet?" He asked his hand moving to scratch at his cheek. "Whenever you want, I can make time." You replied before adding quickly. "Just tell me how much I should pay you for the lessons." His mouth opened in shock before he frantically shook his head. "No, it's alright. You don't need to-" "Nonsense." You cut him off and patted his biceps. "If you don't tell me, I'll ask around how much others take." You proposed to him but he couldn't really haggle.
Your touch made his head blank so he nodded, agreeing to whatever you wanted. He just couldn't believe he got the opportunity to spend more time with you. And little did you know Mualani did it because Hikueru talked with her and Marokau about you and how he'd like to hang out with you to get to know you even better, and she had the perfect occasion to make that happen.
Your first lesson started soon enough and your eyes stuck to him. You couldn’t help but admire him, his athletic build, his slightly wet hair that framed his face perfectly, and his passionate voice as he talked you through the basics of surfing. He showed you how to prepare the board and helped you wax it before you moved fully into the water. In the beginning, you listened to his every word, committing them to your memory, but when he sat on his surfboard, the sun glistening on his dark skin, almost nothing made it into your head. Your mind full of how nice he looked and how great his muscles showed as he carefully pointed their position and what you should be doing. You tried to concentrate on the lesson, but his presence was intoxicating. The way he animatedly described the waves, his enthusiasm infectious, made it difficult to keep your thoughts from wandering.
"Did you get it?" He asked looking at you as he jumped from his board into the water and came closer to where you were sitting and floating. You blinked your eyes twice before shaking your head a little as your eyes refocused on him. "Umm. wha- yes?" You replied hesitantly and when his eyebrow rose at your words you added. "But you can tell me once more." He snorted at your eager expression and moved closer to you in the water, his hip brushing your thigh as you sat on your surfboard. "Then come on." He said and moved your board into shallow water.
This time while talking he tapped your legs and arms showing you how you should move and what position to take. His hands brushed against your body correcting your stance and making your skin scalding hot whenever he touched it. He smiled at you every time you fell down into the water but still came back to stand on the surfboard. Your stubbornness to perfect each move was admirable, making his laughter echo, and encouraging you to continue. The both of you took in every minute you could and enlengthen the lesson to be in each others company.
After an exhausting session of practicing paddling and balancing, you felt the familiar soreness in your muscles. Hikueru noticed your fatigue and suggested a visit to a nearby hot spring. You accepted, grateful for the chance to unwind. Of course, you made sure that he was beside you, and you spent the rest of the evening talking your joined laughter filling the spring.

maybe it's a strange question, but what do you think of Galadriel and Celeborn? I think that they're very interesting and underrated, probably because the fandom just doesn't want to delve into a Noldo/Sinda relationship, especially not when Galadriel takes a Sindarin name and seems to generally get along with Sindar more (even if i think that there are Noldor in Lorien too). Im curious about your thoughts!
It's not a strange question at all, I love both of them! I don't have many thoughts though because other people have already written great fics and meta about their relationship, although it still is a very unappreciated ship in the fandom. I never understood people who think Celeborn is boring like, how? When? Where?? I hc him as being Elrond's main point of connection to his Iathrim heritage (I love the part where they find Rivendell together). I also like to imagine that he and Thranduil were queerplatonic soulmates, and that he refused to sail until Thranduil agreed to come with him.
I think Galadriel is great too, and I don't get the claim that she's too perfect. She is very clearly written as having flaws and potential to fall to the dark side. I think she was the most self-aware of her siblings in the First Age, she knew exactly what they did in continuing after Alqualonde. Imo that's partly why she stayed in Doriath and gave up on her ruling ambitions for the time being. But I also think that she genuinely felt at home there.
[[Side note: I'm not into assigning characteristics to groups as a whole, though I have done that with the Vanyar and obviously Tolkien does it too. But tbh I don't agree with all Noldor being described as rebellious, proud, inventive/intellectual types; same with the other groups and their characteristics because that's not how culture works, though I am interested in the in-universe exploration of those stereotypes and how they'd affect power dynamics and discrimination. But I don't think the distinctions are that strong and by the Third Age they're non-existent.]]
Actually, continuing from my note: I think part of Galadriel's intense drive in Valinor was to show Feanor and his followers that one could be Teler and Vanya and be as accomplished and skilled as the best of the Noldor. And then in Beleriand, I believe she was again sending a deliberate message in choosing to live with and learn from the "dark elves" and marrying one of them.
Aaand I've gone off on a tangent. Coming back to your point, I 100% agree that they're underrated. They have so many conflicts, known ones and unexplored ones like the First Kinslaying and they get through all of it. Neither of them have to shrink or compromise themselves to make each other happy. And I really love that they part for long periods of time but always come back. They have the healthiest and strongest relationship among elves in canon, which is probably why they're not that popular.

Our Youth, See Your Love, and Caged Again - final thoughts
What a week of endings in BL! Three shows, three countries, and three really satisfying conclusions. Each show includes such great examples of what each country does best, while also having their own unique voices. Each show is so distinct while sharing themes of love, hope, and connection. This is so much of what I love about this genre.
Our Youth/Miseinen: Mijukuna Oretachi wa Bukiyo ni Shinkochu
I wouldn't say that Japan is my favorite country for BLs, but there is something special about many of their shows that makes me feel seen. They do introverted, deeply feeling characters in such a sweet and melancholy way. You can feel the repression, the exhaustion, the longing. It's something that transcends language and culture for those of us who live profoundly internal lives. We may seem quiet on the outside, but inside there is so much - and there are so few who ever get to see it. This series connected two people who found they could let themselves be seen by one another in this deep and precious way, and it was achingly beautiful.
There was also something about this series that felt like a love letter to those who are still closeted within Japanese society. The casual heteronormativity of people and the huge blind spots to the connection between our main characters because it didn't suit people's narrative assumptions, both in regards to "good" behavior, and sexuality. And the ending, where Minase is not ready yet, and that's valid in such an imperfect world, but he gets to be loved anyway.
Beautifully made, beautifully acted (the eyes), and such quiet yet poignant heart.
See Your Love
Ok, if I did have to pick a favorite country, it might be Taiwan. Not every show is a hit with me, but every show that does hit, really hits. Especially when written by Lin Pei Yu, what an incredible gift this woman is to the world.
I loved the handling of Shao Peng's disability and how much agency he had throughout the story, I loved how Zi Xiang's trauma wasn't "fixed" by love but gave him a safe space to work it out, I loved Shao Peng's parents and their example of unconditional love while also acknowledging that good parents also make mistakes. Shao Peng and Zi Xiang were both just so delighted to be in love with one another, and so unflinching in their faith in each other. They saw each other's flaws and imperfections and challenges and it just made them love one another harder. And yes, that size difference was hella hot.
And while we had a fantastic main course, we also had such a tasty side dish, and I wish for all of us disasters to find a passionate and supportive, gently and slightly sadistic, hot, capable, and confident someone to get us through the tough times.
This show was so much fun. Taiwan, you did it again, my love.
Caged Again
I know everyone has pretty much said the same thing, but omg. Where did this come from? How did this happen? How was it so damn good?
None of us anticipated how deeply we'd fall in love with our panther/penguin love story, but fall in love we did.
I honestly cannot remember the last time casting felt so perfect to me as Ben and Jay. They obviously have incredible talent, but it's also clear that a lot of work was done with them to prepare for the roles, and whoever was responsible did a brilliant job.
I also want to point out that it looks like this is director Potae's first time directing a series (and maybe first time directing at all?), and she did an incredible job. Could things have been a little bit more polished? Sure, but that's an easier skill to learn than infusing a series with heart, and she has that part absolutely nailed. And that's what captures me into a series, that's how I get hooked. Also her sense of humor speaks to me. ("Why is it these fuckboys never get cursed?" Tell me about it!).
But what I most loved was how relatable the story was, how it is really fucking hard to be a human being, how we get so caged in by all of the restrictions placed on us no matter where we go, and it's such a struggle to find a place where you can be your authentic self, and carve out a little safe space of home and love and acceptance.
And we got to see these adorable little creatures find their way and find their space and their love, and that is a gift of hope to us, that there can be ways to slip those bars and do things in your own wild and strange way.

Do you have a fusion evolution for Blizzarmon and Chackmon? (like Aldamon, etc) I know the canon one is Daipenmon but….eh
Tumblr media
mmmmm hear Manny out
I have an AU I'm slowly cooking and I really just wanna do away with the fusion evolutions.
The whole Digimon cANT STOP FUCKING EVOLVING AND GETTING WEIRDER is BEAUTIFUL AND STUPID AND I LOVE..- but Frontier is like. It's?? it doesn't work well with Frontier.
Y'know, like how in other seasons, the Digimon were secondary/ complimentary characters to the kids. They could change forms all the time and still feel consistent because they're not the main, emotional crux of the show. Doesn't really work for me when the frontier kids are the Digimon!! It's inherently a different format. Power rangers. Magical girls. It's THAAAT format.
One of the reasons I really disliked the royal knights arc is because Emperor-something-mon and Beuoya-???-wolf??-mon just.. are not Takuya or Kouji. It's not even the "Kouji-Takuya show" like a lotta people argue (for me at least) it's the "who are you who are these people" arc because nobody acts or feels consistent. The design philosophy of both hyper-spirit-whatever just feels wrong too. If the context is that those guys are Kouji and Takuya. It feels wrong idk lol!!!!!
Anyway I know that's the hyper spirits and not the fusion ones, but it still extends to the fusions for me. (On my knees avoiding my Discord Fam's wrath) Those guys do feel like Takuya and Kouji!! Because they're just Agnimon and Lobomon but taller and more clunky armour. I just don't like them SHSGHSHSSBJDBD.
Daipenmon is so funny to me also LMFAOOhdgsyshshs. fucking?? Skyscraper penguin?? Like.. yah.. great job design team... HSHDHSHS THAT WAS A GENUINE GOOD JOB I LOVE DIGIMON HAGSBSBSV
sorry sorry damn. Rambling. Anyway. What I wanted to do instead was make slide evolution more of a thing. I love the human and beast spirit designs and I really wish they were played with more. My power scaling justification is that we don't see a lot of champion or ultimate Digimon in frontier anyway. Maybe digivolving is rare!! ...I think that was a plotline actually, it just got underdeveloped. Go figure.
With restricting everyone to Beast and Human evolutions, that gives us six kids with two Digimon forms each. But! Kouichi! That alone is 20 distinct designs to keep track of for the MC. That's a fuck ton already!!
Add the Lairmon (what I call the 'corrupt warriors' cause they deserve a kick-ass name) and that's 28!!!!!!! Distinct!!!!! Designs!!!!!!!!!!! For the warrior ten, whAT the FUCK.
So you catch my drift. I imagine Frontier could have more of a skill-based system instead of digivolve digivolve digivolve (WHICH IM NOT DISSING ITS JUST EASIER TO EXPLAIN THAT WAY) Ahem.
The AU is Growing Wings, and I'm cooking up a Master post to organize everything on Tumblr maybe. I say a lot of things and then don't do them.

fashion designer s/o hcs ; wally
Tumblr media
requested by ; anonymous (27/05/23)
fandom(s) ; welcome home
fandom masterlist(s) ; here
character(s) ; wally darling
outline ; “Hello! Could I request Wally darling from welcome home with a Fashion designer! reader? (Headcanons)”
warning(s) ; none, just fluff!
the two of you are a match made in heaven: a traditional artist with a unique and distinct sense of style, and a fashion designer happy and able to adapt it
you have stacks upon stacks of sketchbooks at home, which you keep in a room alongside all of wally’s paintings for safe keeping
you’re always admiring and (when asked) offering suggestions about each other’s projects — colour corrections, fabric combinations, and so on
he is your main model for the first draft of any clothes you produce — whether you intend items for a male or female audience does not matter to him, he’s happy to help regardless
any articles of clothing that you design for him are kept clean, pressed and neat at all times — he’d hate to spoil such a lovely gift after all, so he takes great care to keep those items safe
he does wear them of course, he’d hate for your work to go to waste, and he’s always happy to show off your work — he’s just very meticulous about cleaning and ironing after the fact, that’s all
eternally praising your skill and talking to anyone and everyone about how amazing and talented his partner is — this genuine bragging is only made exponentially worse if they happen to compliment something that you’ve designed
the epitome of ‘proud boyfriend’ and he wears that title with pride
if your designs make it to the stage for shows then you can guarantee that he’s bought front row seats to support you
and if your clothes appear in magazines then he’s going to be buying each and every new entry
has painted and sketched these models in your designs, their bodies and faces indistinct as he focuses on your work specifically: the colour, the cut, the layering, the shapes and the textures of the fabrics
you and your passion inspire him immensely and he isn’t afraid to admit that, always being the first one with you to celebrate your achievements — but he’s also there to support you when you reach a creative block
sharing techniques and exercises that he uses to help you out, and if all else fails bringing you your favourite warm drink so you can cuddle up on the settee and vent out your frustrations
because he gets it and you get it and sometimes it’s nice to just be understood
wally is with you through the good and the bad, the highs and lows of your career, cheering you on from the sidelines and helping you find your feet when you stumble
attending every interview and show, witnessing your sketches come to life, standing by you as you come into your own in this competitive environment and helping you stay afloat even when you feel you’re drowning
that same smile always on his face no matter what — even if it does get a bit strained when you take his measurements for the 97th time (it’s only 8am let the poor man put his hair up already, he doesn’t want to be picking blue hair out of his teeth before breakfast)
doing whatever he can to support you because you’ve done the same for him — because that’s what you do for the people you love
and because, to wally, you really are the absolute most

Thoughts on the Mystery Labrinth
spoilers ahead for the game so don’t go further if you haven’t finished it.
I’ve seen mixed feelings about it all over (more so off tumblr than here) and that made me want to put my two cents in. Why not. Remember when I said Vivia was a yapper? Me too that’s why I fuck with him. I’m not proofreading this have fun with my typos.
Disclaimer: for the entire game I forgot you could get skills. Entirely. I didn’t get any of them nor upgrade anything. Do skills make the game too easy? Don’t know. I won’t go too much into difficulty for that reason.
Overall feelings
I like it! I’m a mystery labyrinth enjoyer. I dig the mechanics, my favorite being anything with the truth blade. Bobbing and weaving between trying to pick the right keys to answer questions was so fun.
One of my favorite parts is how each one changed to suit the case. The final labyrinth being Kanai ward?? Chapter four being the lab?? Good shit. Even how it framed questions and the mini games looked were different per case, which was a cool surprise. I thought they’d be more copy-paste, but every chapter felt distinct.
As such, it is very difficult for me to apply any blanket criticism to the mechanic. They all had different strengths and different weaknesses.
If any of this comes off as too negative, I don’t at all mean it that way. I’m just better at going in-depth on critique. I’m a certified ML liker. Give me more of that in the sequel.
Per chapter thoughts
Chapter 0: The chapter is good, but given this is the “tutorial” level, it drags a lot on replay. I feel like a lot of the explanation and exposition about it could have been condensed better. I know plot-wise it’s so Yuma stops freaking out, but the game could have taken more liberty with leaving things ambiguous and “it’s a game so there’s game mechanics” would have been a fine explanation. This is straying out of just chapter 0. Id much rather condense some of the exposition and put it towards real-life character development.
Otherwise I enjoyed it. Zilch was a great antagonist, and has some of the best designs. And he gets two?? As he should. There’s an interesting irony in him having two ML forms given he’s technically two people. (The Hitman himself and this other identity he’s taken on for the hit)
Chapter 1: not a ton to say honestly! Perfectly serviceable ML with nothing too stand out, which is ideal for chapter 1. It functioned great, and Seth was there AND Halara so it’s the best one. Jk that one is to come but also like-
Chapter 2: this is where what I said about the accompanying character affecting the chapter really did it a disservice. Sorry Desuhiko but you needed to can it once in a while. I’m not a hater of him, but he got pretty repetitive. Unlike the other chapters where the character either functioned perfectly fine (Halara) or actively made it better (Vivia), I started getting annoyed by him and replaying doesn’t make it better. I wish the game leaned into a few of his other traits other than just horny.
That aside the actual ML?? Stellar. The different hallways, the eerie music. The realization that they all come together into one path because the girls are working together, followed by the sickening realization that we’re going to kill three girls was a gut punch in the best way. This is my favorite ML for handling the consequences of reaping the culprits soul.
Chapter 3: another one that didn’t stand out to me. Granted this is because chapter 3 was the weakest one, but that’s more the fault of the chapter than the ML. That said, I loved Fubuki in it. I thought she was going to annoy me, but her small arc with Shinigami and working through her own insecurities was really nice to play through.
Chapter 4: OOOH you sly dog you’ve got me monologuing. What a great chapter. Props to the people who caught the twist coming because I didn’t until Vivia started getting weird about how we didn’t figure out the culprit. Granted I was drunk when I played this the first time, but it was so good. In such a painful way. This is a chapter where the accompanying character makes the fucking ML. Vivia’s arc, the fight he and Yuma had, the uncertainty if we were going to have to maybe kill him to escape, or if he would come to see our point of view?? Incredible. I’d say it’s my favorite chapter, but then we’ve got
Chapter 5: after 4, I didn’t think this one could hold a candle to it, but I was proved so delightfully wrong. The setting being kanai ward, the ambiguous antagonist, shinigami trying to steer us away from finding our identity as Number One all while we approach the final face off with Makoto, it was so so good. So fucking good. And the final battle? From the voice acting, the framing, the way it played out, it was just so fun. Slowly picking away at the truth both literally and figuratively while we shattered Makoto’s mask, it didn’t disappoint once. Makoto in general is a perfect antagonist to finish off the game. I could go on.
Overall I can’t wait to see how the ML is handled in the potential sequel. If we get anything akin to chapters 4 and 5 I’ll pass away because my heart can’t take it but it will be so good

WIP Wednesday- I Cannot Breath: Sneak Peak
Here is a little of the start of ch. 5 for I Cannot Breath (So I Must Sing). As a treat. I've never done a WIP sneak peak before, so hope you enjoy.
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Morning sunlight clawed at the edges of the curtains, seeping through the bedroom. It crawled along the wall, scattered onto the floor and made its way to you. Rousing you from sleep with its irritating call to start a new day.
The first thing you felt was a distinct pain in your neck.
You’d been holding too much tension in your shoulders again and now your poor muscles were strained and angry.
This wasn’t the first time something like this had happened, but it had been quite some time since your neck had hurt like this. Back home, everything had fallen into a routine, it was easy and calculated. A new season, a new show, same opera house, same schedule. It was simple and flowed nicely.
It was boring.
That’s what you had thought at least. It’s why you came to American in the first place. To get a break, to meet new people, work in a new theater, make a name for yourself in a new town, a new country.
Some great idea that had been.
The events of the past few days weighed on you. You hesitated to call coming here a mistake, mainly because that would imply that your father had been right about you leaving. To concede that his badgering and curmudgeonly ‘advice’ was of any usefulness was something you were loath to do.
Still.
Being away from the only support system you had ever know was taking its toll on you.
And your neck was paying the price.
The walls crept in closer and closer as the morning went on. The lifestyle you had was always a busy one. Filled with music, meetings, rehearsals and personal practice. Due to your.... misstep... with the costume woman, the theater had been shut down for the time being while the investigation continued.
You really never intended to continue your father’s work outside of France, honestly. Frustration had boiled in you, building up with no escape. The support system that had allowed you release all your life was gone, and in its place was a foreign world fill with foreign people. Each day filled with having to learn new idiosyncrasies of the average American on top of learning a new theater and show.
At first it had been a welcome change of pace.
Then it’s glamour quickly faded.
Then you had met with Alastor, and something deep within you that you couldn’t describe shifted.
Then you were left, boiling over, with only one option for rest.
You had chased her down to the costume department. Her sedentary life of sitting and working on garments evident as the chase was lackluster at best. She was a little stronger than you had first believed, no doubt strength built up from moving large bolts of fabric, but she was not strong enough.
Strangling her had been thrilling though.
This was far from your first strangulation. Your beloved father had taught you hanging first, then close quarters strangulation. After that was knife skills, poisons, explosives and anything else he had picked that he thought you should know. Other little girls, played with dolls and learned how to cook. You played with knifes and learned how to gut a man.
But what did you expect? Your father was far from normal as was his life, so why would anybody expect any different for his precious daughter?
Strangulation, up close had always been the most thrilling for you. Being so close to someone as they perish. Not quickly and quietly giving into that sweet release but gasping and thrashing. Trying so desperately for another gulp of oxygen, knowing that if they could just get you off of them, they could live. Then getting a front row seat as the realization dawned in their eyes that you wouldn’t budge, and that they would die here. By your hand, or your rope rather.
Once you had finished with the costume woman, all that energy was released, the steam allowed to leave as you lifted the lid off of the pot.
Once you were done, panic had struck you.
This was far from your first strangulation, but it was your first one alone. You’d always had your father before. He was always there in the aftermath to help and take the blame under his ghostly persona. Now you were alone with a horrid macabre scene in front of you.
You began madly pacing back and forth, hands gripping forcefully at your hair. This had been so off the cuff, so spur of the moment that it dawned on you how sloppy you were. You didn’t check to see if anyone else had noticed you going to the theater. You didn’t have an alibi lined up. You didn’t have a place to put the body or a way to get it out of here. You were screwed, at the mercy of fate if you could get away with this.
You savior in that moment had come in the shuffling of a newspaper, tucked under a desk, moved in the gust caused by your brisk pace. Down, down in the far corner was the start of an article
“New Butcher victim still unidentified”
Your hands shook as you picked it up and began to read.
“Nearly two weeks since the Bayou Butcher’s latest horror rose to the surface, and still there are no leads on the identity of the body found in the...” You stopped reading, recalling the cab driver when you first arrived. He had blabbed on and on regarding some... butcher that had been terrifying the streets for the past few years. In that moment you racked your brain to remember every detail you could about that conversation.
Then you’d grabbed a precision blade from the table and got to work.
And now you were enduring the consequences of your recklessness. Being stuck, bored out of your mind with only your elderly landlord as company.
Just as the thought crossed your mind, a bell rung out from downstairs. A signal that the old woman was requesting your presence.
The smell of pine was aggressive as you steeped into the house proper. Making sure your footfall was audible so that Anais would hear you coming. The woman physically looked ancient, like a small gust of wind would send her flying to the next block. Mentally however she was still sharp, kind and even a bit funny.
At first, she had been reluctant to allow you to rent her upper room. Stating that you were young, single and surely prone to trouble. However, her attitude had switched on a dime once she learned that you were born and raised French. For whatever reason, that was what changed her mind and now you were roommates for the foreseeable future.
As you turned the corner, there your landlord sat. Leaning against the kitchen table with an aged and worn book cradled in her hands.
“Yes ma’am” you asked.
“Oh dearie, can you come here and read this for me? You know my eyes aren't any good.”
You sat next to Anais, noting the passage she was pointing to. Smooth handwritten lines greeted you, a recipe crinkled and stained from years of use on the page. Written in a mix of broken English and French.
“Is that the recipe for cassoulet?” she asked.
“Yes madam.”
“Ah good, would you mind doing me a favor dearie?” Anais looked up at you, her warm weathered face expectant.
“But of course, it’s not like I’m doing much right now anyway.” You responded, half laughing.
“Could you check our pantry and icebox, and then go out and get me whatever we would need to make this?” As Anais looked up at you, you couldn’t help but think of how adoring her gaze was. You knew she had family, yet for some reason she looked up at you, a practical stranger, like you held the world in your hands.
You looked down at the book, before looking back up at Anais and smiling. “Not a problem, I think some movement would do me some good.” As you turned to make your way to the pantry, Anais spoke up once more.
“And you do understand everything there, right?” She asked. You looked down at the recipe one more. It appeared that most of the French was random. Different words and phrases that the writer simply didn’t know how to say in English.
“Oui madam, I can understand everything clearly.” Anais smiled wider and she almost looked teary eyed, though it may have been the lighting.
“Aright then” Anais nodded, motioning for you to continue.
