Moral Questions for a Villainous Character

A long time ago, Charlie had asked something similar, but it had been about the sinners directly and if they were worth being redeemed, which had been another matter entirely in Lucifer's mind.

But forgiveness...

"Well, forgiveness is less for the wrong-doer and more for the wronged, don't you think? People don't need forgiveness to change and be better, that's something that can be done at any time. The victim, on the other hand, lives with the consequences of what had been done to them, when they forgive it, it's them finally coming to peace and no longer allowing it to fester and grip them with bitterness... And they never have to tell that to the one that hurt them in the first place."

The concept, as he sees it used or framed to be used by the 'righteous' just feels like virtue signalling by others uninvolved being Uncomfortable... or the wrong-doers wanting to be released from their guilt or from public shame, rather than genuinely care about how any of it affects the person wronged. One could apologize, and it was always great to acknowledge and validate the feelings of others harmed...

But when it became a social expectation of morality, of 'taking the high road', to be a good and quiet victim... That wasn't forgiveness, anymore, that was coercion and being a martyr for a pointless cause that will never serve you. A performance of virtue only for the benefit of those looking in.

But everything else? That was a gift, not a gurantee.

Revenge, though. That was an interesting topic.

It makes him think of someone in particular.

"I think any reaction could be classified as revenge if it bothered the other person enough to interpret it that way. Even when you do nothing but try to live a good life without their input," this is said with a degree of bitterness, thinking back to his younger days... How hopeful he had been in the beginning of Hell.

Before the Great Flood. Before the Bubonic Plague.

Before Heaven took it as a revolt for simply trying to have a sense of community in shared imprisonment.

"But for the victim, it goes back to forgiveness. How much they let that pain of being wronged hold over their life. How much they let it corrupt them into wanting to make the other Understand the harm they had done, to make them pay... Or to never speak with them again or give the other 'closure' so the wrong might haunt them enough to improve, if they were think on it at all... Revenge is just a choice, whether or not it's intended with anyone else in mind, that others attribute to being done to enact some kind of Justice."

Lucifer gives you a smile, faint and polite. "Now, if you are asking me personally, on what I have forgiven or not, sought revenge or not as others would define it, then you will have to be more specific, since you now know how I would personally qualify those things."

According to NBC here in the US, the missing titanic sub has been found. As debris. Off the bow of the Titanic wreckage.

And it looks like the sub suffered what we all suspected, and what was undoubtedly the more merciful of the two options: a catastrophic implosion from the pressure.

Also, more info has come to light about the fishing trawler with the hundreds of migrants that sank cataclysmically off the coast of Greece, indicating that the greek coast guard knew about the vessel AND how much trouble the vessel was in, and were towing it at a speed that made it capsize, at which point they unhooked the tow line and watched the trawler sink without helping the passengers to safety. Despite a bunch of other ships trying to help as well throughout the whole ordeal.

So a lot of people are dead, all because of regulations (and the lack thereof) regarding sea-faring vessels and rescue protocols. People shouldnt be allowed to make a business charging a ton of money for a ride on an uncertified, unsafe, un-seaworthy ship going deep into the ocean with no distress beacon or tether to the mothership. People also shouldnt be allowed to enact laws that criminalize the ferrying of refugees, which then force the refugees to hitch rides on fishing trawlers, and which also prevent people from helping those fishing trawlers full of refugees due to fear of legal consequences.

Hopefully BOTH of these events spark changes on an international scale in terms of what is legally allowed to be sailed, who is legally allowed to be the passengers, and what the rescue protocols are in the event of disaster for any seafaring vessel, illegal or not. It shouldnt be just the global 1% who get 24/7 search parties and remote-operated submersibles helping rescue them.

i feel like people are sleeping on the occam's razor situation of how buckwild it is to outright accuse a guy of being a clone of your friend even if you DO have a lot of circumstantial evidence. there's other options is what im saying. they could just be like. a guy. that's a sensible deduction. you should explore that deduction. ignore my shirt that reads I <3 RED HERRINGS.

i really don’t think it’s “typical dragon age fandom nonsense” for people to be genuinely upset about the world state choices. combat, level design, art direction, gameplay gimmicks, those have all varied across each dragon age game. the one thing that’s remained constant are nods to our previous choices.

i wasn’t expecting my HoF to come riding in on a griffon, but i can’t find a monument dedicated to warden tabris somewhere around the anderfels? lucanis couldn’t have some lines about the time that one arainai boy was stirring up trouble in antiva city? you’re gonna tell me that making a mage the new divine wouldn’t have some impact on nevarra and antiva? on the anderfels, the supposed most devout militant andrastian nation in thedas? you’re saying nobody in the north is paying attention to who rules orlais or ferelden? come on.
