You didn't think I wouldn't ask for some Boba Fett though now did you? (Of course not, he is the new shiny for me iuwhei) ✨ HC Of my Choice... What about having your first kiss with Boba and he doesn't #know it is your first one till part-way through or after? Am I projecting? Yes, yes I am.
Title: HC – Boba Fett and First Kiss Pairing: Gender neutral Reader x Boba Fett Word Count: ~1700 Rating: PG-13 Warnings: Boba Fett is a grumpy bastard, but you hold your own against him. Boba also gets injured, but there aren’t any graphic descriptions of the injuries. Author’s Notes: Okay, my Angle, I’ve been thinking about this one for as long as it’s been sitting in my inbox. I’m not familiar with Boba Fett’s character, so I wanted to make sure this was good for you. So, without further ado, here we go with the Big Green Grumpy Jerk who has somehow inexplicably charmed his way into my heart with a few gruff comments.
Tagging @princessbatears because chaos? :>
📚 My Master List 📚
Boba Fett isn’t a man of many words. It’s not that he’s shy or anything – he just doesn’t like talking to people beyond what is necessary. He has worked alone his entire life, so the sound of others’ voices just sort of grates on him. He especially does not like being crowded by people.
So, one day, while doing his thing, he ends up injured. It’s not even due to combat. His jetpack just…sputters out. His beskar’gam turns what should have been a fatal fall into a very painful one. He knows he has broken a lot of bones, but Boba refuses to die like this. He crawls his way back to his bike, calls for medical aid, and prays to the Maker that someone in town will come help him.
You are the only person who does come to help him. Most other people are too afraid of the Imperial remnants to work with a Mandalorian. Others are too afraid of Mandalorians to work with a Mandalorian. You? You are not afraid of much. He is not sure if you are brave or stupid. After splinting the worst of the damage, you get him onto the bike and get him back into town. It is at this point that Boba finds himself leaning toward thinking you are stupidly caring and trusting.
You inject him with bacta – the good kind that makes him giggly, sleepy, and numb – and get to work. When he wakes up, he’s wrapped in an annoying number of casts and splints, but at least he’s still alive. However, you then give him the bad news: the fall has damaged many of the delicate nerves in his back. If he fails to undergo physical therapy, there is a real chance he may never walk again. He’s no medical expert, but when he looks at the scans you took, he knows you aren’t lying.
So, Boba resigns himself to having to deal with you on a regular basis. The first physical therapy exercises are simple, yet they exhaust him to the point where he just passes out. As the days go by, he starts putting up the walls to keep you out. (Spoiler alert: you manage to find your way through the cracks in the wall, annoying him with barely any effort on your behalf.)
Now, under ideal circumstances, this shitshow would end with Boba Fett getting back on his feet, paying you handsomely for the amount of time you have spent getting him put together, and going back to bounty hunting, never to think of you again. But of course, the universe throws an even bigger wrench into his carefully thought-out plans. Someone finds out that you’re taking care of him and a whole bunch of angry townspeople converge on your little clinic. He grabs you and the two of you run. The last thing you see is your clinic going up in flames. (Boba can’t believe the shortsightedness of these people – they’ve driven off their only competent medical professional. What are they going to do next? Kill their only competent mechanic? Di’kute, every last one of them.)
And so, the two of you go off on a merry adventure, annoying the absolute shit out of each other on a regular basis. Boba especially is concerned at how easily you have managed to find every single weak point in his defenses – physical, mental, and emotional. You are a fair shot with your blaster, so when he got fresh with you that one time, telling you that your ass looked downright edible in the trousers you had borrowed from him, you drew your blaster and fired a shot off at his feet. He laughed so hard his bucket nearly fell off. (You are not sure if you are disturbed that he finds being shot at amusing. He does scold you a bit, but you do notice that he does not talk about your ass anymore.)
With your knife? You’re lethal, and he learns that the hard way when he fails to announce his presence behind you. One moment Boba is reaching to touch your shoulder and the next moment, he’s got your elbow in his face and your penknife embedded in his flak vest. Fortunately, the blade’s too short to cause serious damage, but he does not let you forget that you kriffing stabbed him when he was only trying to ask you what you wanted for dinner.
Even though Boba would rather cover himself in tiingilar sauce and crawl back into the sarlacc pit headfirst than ever admit it, the two of you make a damn good team. He goes off to hunt bounties, you stay in town to provide your medical services for a fair fee. Sometimes, when your services are not needed, you’ll hang back at the ship and do some basic accounting to keep him within his budget.
Boba grumbles when you ask to accompany him on a hunt, but he figures you really do need to learn how to defend yourself if anything should happen to him. When the two of you were surrounded by goons, you naturally fell into place behind him, your back to his, covering his shebs while he provides the heavy firepower. When the numbers are thinned to something more manageable, he sets you loose on them, letting you practice your knife skills. And by the Maker, he is impressed with how much you have improved since the last time you stabbed him.
Between hunts, you get his shebs back into fighting shape. Hell, he thinks he’s even better than he was before. The exercises you insist on forcing on him have made him more flexible than he was before, and his bones no longer creak first thing in the morning. One particularly hot, muggy day, you try to make him drink that vile green vegetable concoction you call a smoothie. Smooth his shebs, there are chunks in that liquefied animal feed. Sometimes he wonders if you’re trying to kill him on purpose.
(You don’t know this, but Boba has already arranged for everything in his possession, ships and banking accounts included, to be transferred to you in the event of his death. Hell, he has even started negotiating with a friendly Tribe to make sure you have a home to go to and your pick of their warriors for marriage, should you be interested. Boba justifies it this way: the last time his jetpack mutinied, he ended up several hundred thousand credits in debt to you by his estimation. By ensuring you have a safe place to go, and a family ready to welcome you, he can offset the immeasurable debt he owes you. It hurts to think of this, but Boba genuinely cannot bear the thought of you being alone in this cruel galaxy, the same way he had been when he was a child. So, if he ever does piss you off to the point where you off him in his sleep, you’ll be fine.)
You keep pushing and pushing, insisting that he needs B-vitamins or some other bantha-shit he’s sure you’ve made up for the sole purpose of annoying him. When you start going on about macronutrients and essential vitamins, Boba loses it. He tosses his cutlery down and goes stomping off toward the cockpit. You follow him, blathering on and on about the last blood panel you had pulled – HDLs, LDLs, and a whole slew of acronyms later, he loses it. Rather than snap at you, he shuts you up the only way his poor sleep-deprived brain can come up with.
Boba pushes you up against the wall, gently to avoid hurting you. You don’t seem at all phased. In fact, you start waving the paper at him as you try to draw his attention to his sodium levels. Boba leans in and presses his lips to yours. You finally stop talking, your entire body going stiff in response. He takes a moment to nibble along your lower lip before parting your lips with his, tongue probing a bit deeper in, and you still aren’t responding. Boba draws back and stares down at you. You’re wide-eyed and clearly in shock.
He leans in again. This time you respond clumsily, your hands clutching at that stupid piece of paper. He gently wrestles it out of your grasp and crumples it up. Then he tosses it over his shoulder, not caring where it lands. He cups the back of your head and deepens the kiss. Still, you’re not responding the way he wants, so he draws back.
“What, never been kissed before?” he asks.
Before he can say anything else, he realizes that that was your first kiss. While Boba has never wanted to be anyone’s First Anything, he realizes that he wants to make an exception for you. There’s no one in this entire galaxy who can annoy the shit out of him in one breath and then worry about his health in the next. You are his little baar’ur. After you have wormed your way under his plating and so selfishly made yourself a fixture in his life without his permission? Oh, no, no, you are not going anywhere.
He cuts off your stammering with another kiss. He takes this one slow, moving your hands to where he wants you to touch him – one at his nape, the other at the small of his back, right over that spot that makes his knees weak.
This time, you respond. Slowly, hesitantly, but as you grow more confident, your hands begin to stray. You worm your fingers up the back of his shirt and dig your nails into the sensitive skin there, making him gasp in pleasure. Then you dig your fingers into his long hair and tug lightly, earning a low growl from him. You freeze and stare up at him with wide eyes until he leans back in.
Fortunately, your big smart science brain learns his likes and dislikes very quickly. When he finally pulls away, he finds that he really likes what he sees – your shirt’s rumpled, your hair is sticking up, and your lips are red and swollen from his kisses. Then and there, he makes a vow to make sure you always look like a mess.
(Spoiler alert: quite a few more of your firsts happen right here in the cockpit.)

Unique Armors, 1: Splint mail, studded leather and sturdy shields of all shapes, sizes and mysterious backgrounds. Fictional characters wear their armor like a second skin, seemingly owning no clothes but their ever-present protective gear. Armor can define a character’s personality as well as their fighting style and fuel a growing character arc. From Darth Vader’s futuristic full plate, Sturm Brightblade in his father’s ancient suit of Solamnic armor, Batman’s pitch black suit and cloak (Or any superhero costume) designed to evoke fear in criminals, Warhammer 40k’s Space Marines and their enormous powered armor, Croaker’s baroque Widowmaker armor, Goblin Slayer’s grubby armor and concealing helmet, the frost covered armor of Prince Arthas and any complete armor set from any video game, a character’s protective gear is a full body first impression. These examples are not powerfully magical or even technologically more advanced than other armors in their various settings but the rich description, emotional attachment and narrative focus allows the protection to almost become a character in its own right. This table of Unique Armor can serve as the physical basis for family heirlooms, legendary artifacts and magical or masterwork weapons. Alternatively they can be found as loot and become part of a PC’s distinctive appearance, allowing the player to become fully immersed in their character’s look and feel. —Note: Some entries call for the DM to “Roll a Random armor” which simply means that the DM can roll from the pregenerated lists on this blog or choose whatever armor they feel would be appropriate for the situation.
A set of studded leather armor made from sharkskin, set with brass disks that don't tarnish.
A set of unrelieved black armor fashioned from overlapping scales like that of a snake over a black gambeson and breeches. The scale mail includes a black cloak with a deep cowl whose flowing length never stirs in the wind.
A suit of cord armor (Padded armor statistics) fashioned from tough hemp fibers, woven and knotted into a thick, resilient covering. The armor forms a complete suit, hampering movement but offering decent protection without the use of metal or leather. This type of apparel is common in places where metalworking and leatherworking are not practiced, such as among sailors who have rope and time in abundance or druids who may avoid the curing of animal hides for religious reasons.
An ornate, highly polished suit of splint mail, whose rectangular steel strips are outlined with geometric patterns of rose gold wire.
A battered shield that bears an insignia of a partially open door. All who look upon the image of the unshut archway it find oddly appealing. A sort of unspoken invitation to secrets beyond.
A set of profane ring mail armor made of cursed, black iron and tainted demonhide, having been further desecrated with symbols of infernal power.
An ornate set of scale mail constructed entirely of silvery, overlapping coins bound at holes in the centers, with a gorget and armguards. The interlinking metal disks are polished to such a shine that they reflect the faces of the people around the wielder like a mirror. The armor comes with a fearsome helmet with a faceplate capable of opening and closing.
A set of leather armor fashioned from griffon hide. Tooled into the leather is a set of spiraling runes, forming the image of a falcon contained within a storm.
A set of half plate consisting of iron sheets and leather treated with wax. A convex, angular, black and blue breastplate overlaps with a segmented apron and short thigh pads. The armor-plated brassards bristle with sharp, steel spikes. The visor, with its densely grated screen extends out in the shape of a dog's muzzle and is covered with spikes like a conker casing. The armor clatters and grinds whenever its bearer moves around.
A beautifully crafted steel breastplate sized for a halfling or gnome, depicting seven mountaintops; the holy symbol of Yondalla, the halfling goddess.

A breastplate fashioned from the chitinous exoskeleton of an extinct species of beetle. The beetle’s mandibles jut out behind the wielder’s shoulders like the hilts of swords, framing the wielder’s head between the enormous spiked pincers.
A dwarf sized wooden sizing mold with a doublet of padded armor on it.
A wooden shield bound in human leather that's held in place with a rim of beaten copper. The skin is completely covered in a complex tattoo that appears to be some sort of map.
A suit of plate armor which glistens as if it had been polished yesterday. The name of every warrior to ever don the armor has been inscribed upon the front and back of the chest plate, covering nearly every inch of its surface with precisely written, black runes. A careful inspection of the armor will reveal that there remains room for one last name.
A dented but serviceable set of half plate, bearing an odd swirling design on the back plate.
A set of ring mail fashioned to fit the torso of a human child but could also be worn by a gnome or halfling. The scratches and wear on the metal indicate that it’s seen heavy use.
A set of leather armor designed to be worn by a large dog or wolf. The leather barding is covered in a camouflage pattern of mottled greens, browns and blacks to aid the animal to blend into natural environments. ---Note: If armor for animals doesn’t have statistics in your game try using the following rules. A combat trained wolf or dog is considered trained in wearing barding, including any animal companion granted by a class feature or magic spell. A PC who transforms himself into a canine is considered proficient with the barding if they were proficient in leather armor as a human. It takes one minute for another creature to strap the canine into the armor or to remove it. The barding increases the canine’s armor class or physical defenses as if he was as if he was properly wielding a shield (Typically a +2).
A large suit of imposing plate mail which has the face of Kord, the god of storms and the lord of battle, engraved on its front.
A lightweight, oval shaped wicker shield, decorated with the image of a pair of intertwined snakes. The shield is as tall as an adult man and as wide as his shoulders.
A chainmail shirt that protects the wielder’s torso while leaving his limbs free and mobile. A layer of quilted fabric underneath it prevents chafing and cushions the impact of blows. Found alongside it is a good, rounded, steel cap.
A suit of tightly woven reeds that when worn covers the entire body, offering slightly more protection than normal clothes. Knowledgeable PC’s know this wicker armor (Padded armor statistics) is a poor solider’s, militia member’s or peasant fighter’s last resort and while it does have the advantage of being cheap to make and maintain as well as being lightweight, it is bulky, loud and barely more protection than regular clothes.
A set of leather armor whose breastplate and shoulder protectors are made of leather that has been stiffened by boiling in oil. The rest of the armor consists of softer, more flexible leather.
An extremely large, circular convex war shield with tooled geometrical designs and half round hide handle on the obverse. The shield is made from hippopotamus leather and is more resistant to the wear and tear of rain and water damage than standard bovine leather.
A set of leather armor that is light and flexible while still being able to ward off sword-blows. Crafted from rigid buffalo leather, the armor is strong enough to provide all the protection that a nimble wielder might encounter, while also light enough to let the wielder retain all the mobility and agility that he desires. The armor is a lamellar style breastplate, consisting of shoulder straps attached to lames, or wide leather bands, which are layered horizontally down the core to create a strong and solid defense. The edges of these leather bands are stylized with edged shapes and secured with riveted patterns, which not only enhances its strength and durability, but also infuses an element of style and flair into the armor, as well
A set of brigandine (Splint mail) constructed of a coat of leather plates, each plate consisting of leather with a strip of steel inside it. The armor’s outer layer is a richly dyed velvet with gilded trim projects an impressive image and wouldn’t be out of place worn by a high status individual in a lord’s court.
A set of studded leather armor made from tough but flexible leather (Not hardened leather as with normal leather armor) reinforced with close-set metal rivets.
A sleeveless brigandine (Studded leather statistics) constructed from a garment of heavy canvas lined with small oblong steel plates riveted to the fabric. Unlike armor for the torso made from large plates, this brigandine is flexible, with a degree of movement between each of the overlapping plates. The rivet are grouped to produce a repeating decorative pattern and each rivet itself is stamped with said pattern.
A set of armor made of interlocking steel rings. The chainmail includes a layer of quilted fabric underneath it to prevent chafing and to cushion the impact of blows. Several layers of mail are hung over vital areas. Most of the armor's weight hangs from the shoulders, making it uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. It includes matching gauntlets.
A massive wooden tower shield that’s nearly as tall as the wielder. A simply painted holy symbol belonging to the minor God of Random Domain fills the entire face of the shield.
A padded leather jacket (Scale mail statistics) covered in velvet and containing steel plates. The armored coat’s long skit is split to the waist allowing the wielder to easily ride a horse. The jacket is elaborately decorated with gold lace, silk and satin, making it beautiful as well as practical. The suit includes matching vambraces and boots containing metal plates.
A heavy set of brigandine (Ring mail statistics) comprised of a leather tunic strips of interwoven steel and hardened leather composing the exterior and pauldrons of pure enameled steel. The armor provides vambrances that cover the arms to the wrist and heavy but supple gloves. The brigandine is fashioned into a leather skirt and includes greaves and a matching helmet. Knowledgeable PC’s are aware that this armor is common among career warriors and experienced soldiers and officers for the excellent protection it offers and it's low maintenance cost compared to similar forms of armor such as splint or plate. It is particularly favored due to the wielder being able to maintain a modicum of stealth while wearing it.
A fossilized shield made from the horned skull of a great desert dinosaur. The jawbone is fixed to the rest of the skull with copper wire and the shield’s grip is within the back of the armor’s mouth not unlike a terrifying boney puppet.
A full set of dwarven crafted, plate armor, made of interlocking stone slabs, cunningly carved for both thinness and strength. A layer of cured hide underneath the stone prevents chafing and cushions the impact of blows. Several layers of stone panels hang over vital areas, and most of the armor's weight hangs from the shoulders. The suit includes hide gauntlets with tiny stone plates sewn onto them. The armor contains no metallic components and is not considered metal armor.
A suit of banded mail (Half plate statistics) made of overlapping strips of metal sewn to a backing of leather and chainmail. The strips cover vulnerable areas, while the chain and leather protect the joints and provide freedom of movement. Straps and buckles distribute the weight evenly over the wielder’s body. It includes matching gauntlets.
A suit of armor (Chain shirt statistics) carefully crafted by druids from the tough bark of ancient trees and treated to prevent it from becoming brittle over time. Strips of bark are layered together over a quilted sheet of cushioning animal felt. Protective bark is much more flexible than its metal counterparts but does not provide as much protection as most steel armor. The armor includes arm, leg, chest, and back protection, but it does not include gauntlets. The apparel contains no metallic components and is not considered metal armor.
A ratty canvas coat reinforced with strips of bone cut from animals used for food. The studded leather armor was not well made to begin with and has seen better days. It does provide a modest amount of protection for the wielder’s torso while leaving the limbs free for better mobility.
A set of splint mail constructed from narrow vertical strips of metal riveted to a backing of leather that is worn over cloth padding. Flexible chainmail protects the joints. It includes matching gauntlets.
A set of knight’s armor consisting of a steel breastplate etched with a feathered pattern and trimmed with eagle feathers and worn over multiple layers of padding. The coif, which is decorated as an eagle's head, frames the knight's face with a beak-like visor. The protective leggings are fashioned with decorative talons. While worn, the breastplate armor causes the wielder to vaguely resemble some great wingless bird.
A fine set of hide armor assembles from the pelts of several jaguars places over layers of padding. The coif, which is actually made from the skull of a jaguar, frames the wielder’s face in the great cat's jaws.
An exotic armor (Leather armor statistics) known as leafweave, which as the name suggests, is made from forest leaves which are then treated with a special alchemical process. The secret process renders the delicate leaves as tough and flexible as leather, with considerably less weight, encumbrance and loss of animal life. Knowledgeable PC’s can assume that this type of apparel is common in places where metalworking and leatherworking are not practiced, such as among druids who may avoid the curing of animal hides for religious reasons.
A suit of full plate consisting of shaped and fitted metal plates riveted and interlocked to cover the entire body. It includes matching gauntlets, heavy leather boots, and a visored helmet. The armor includes a thick layer of padding underneath it to prevent chafing and to cushion the impact of blows. Buckles and straps distribute the weight evenly over the wielder’s body.
A pungent buckler made from the fungus tinged, great toenail of a frost giant.
A suit of leather armor made from dark snakeskin steeped in mysterious alchemical mixtures. This armor (Which knowledge PC’s can identify as Nightscale) is much like mundane leather armor, except that it is much more supple and formfitting. Many martial sorcerers and war wizards favor this exotic armor.
A collection of silk swathes that can serve as a form of exotic protection that it as dependable as leather armor. The sheer material is nothing more than elaborately wrapped cloth strips but is perfect for clothing in hot environments in addition to its martial defense. Air trapped between layers allows the skin to respire, while the material itself absorbs moisture readily and dries quickly. The wrapped layers are surprisingly effective against weapon blows. However, donning and doffing this armor is time-consuming and difficult, taking as long and following the same rules as for putting on or removing full plate. While wearing the armor, whenever the wielder would have to roll a saving throw or ability check to resist a negative effect caused by hot environments condition he adds +1 to the roll. This bonus is not usually applicable in combat scenarios as the +1 provided by the armor typically reflects a saving throw that is representing minutes to hours of time rather than a few seconds.
A suit of half plate constructed from the shells of giant crabs. The ocean crustacean’s chitin is heavily polished and the inner surfaces are fitted with padding, rendering it flexible and rather comfortable to wear. The armormaking process softens the shells, making them far more pliable and likely to bend instead of shatter when struck. The armor includes a pair of lobstered gauntlets fashioned from a pair of monstrous crab’s pincer’s making the wielder truly fearsome to look upon.
A set of exotic hide armor that resembles a rubbery suit of thick leather, with long sweeping tentacles attached to the bottom. Knowledgeable PC’s will conclude that the material was sourced from the severed tentacles of some huge aberrant monster. While clever, the armor is somewhat crude in design, as if the severed tentacle was simple hollowed out and three holes were added for a head and arms, with two smaller tentacles sewn onto the arm holes for sleeves. Despite the amateurish crafting process, the armor is supple and an effective deterrent against weapon blows.
A simple yet effective leather breastplate (Leather armor) that provides basic protection with good mobility and even kidney protection. There are two hinged leather sections on each side that wrap around the wielder's body for additional defense. The armor is made from heavy brown leather and will withstand a surprising amount of abuse on behalf of its wielder.
A highly polished, silver-etched breastplate. Knowledgeable PC's will recognize that the various etched symbols indicate the bearer has the military rank of a captain in the kingdom’s standing army.
An enormous suit of armor made of thick metal plates bolted and fused together causing the wielder to resemble a mountain of steel. While worn, the wielder is a juggernaut of virtually impregnable heavy plate armor that clanks, clatters and grinds whenever its bearer moves around. The exotic heavy armor is incredibly massive and the suit includes plated gauntlets, metal-shod boots, a heavy helm, and reinforced joint guards.
A rusted set of half plate engraved with dwarven symbols of an anvil and thunderbolt.
A set of steel scale mail displaying the knightly heraldry of a forked black lightning bolt on a field of red. Knowledgeable PC’s will recognize the insignia as that or an order of inquisitors infamous for their sudden and unpredictable “investigations” which often leave death, destruction and the smell of smoke and charred flash in their wake.
A fine steel, round shield that glows faintly blue when touched. When it is struck by any hard force it creates a small shower of bright, blue sparks.
A vest of studded leather armor crafted from a single piece of hide of unknown origin. The studs consist of various bones and large teeth, all as black as a starless night. If left alone, the armor seems to shiver and undulate on its own when looked at from the corner of the eye
A set of scale mail crafted from copper coins with matching gauntlets. The sigil of the banker’s guild has been stamped into the face of each and every coin. It doesn’t look like it would hold up to blows from steel weapons and may be ceremonial or symbolic.
A shield attached to the forearm of a locked gauntlet, all crafted of steel. The shield displays face of a lion, modeled in exquisite detail. The steel mane seems to flow in the wind, and lesser animals regard the toothy maw nervously. The wielder cannot be disarmed of the shield while worn, however it takes a free hand and an action equivalent to making an attack or casting a spell to don or remove the gauntlet.
A steel breastplate that covers the wielder’s front and back. The armor is found alongside a sturdy helmet and matching greaves that covers the wielder’s lower legs. Under the breastplate lies a light suit of flexible leather that protects the wielder’s limbs without restricting movement much.
A sleeveless chainmail shirt inset with dozens of stripes of white and red jade, scattered throughout the steel rings. When the wielder moves, there is a rippling effect of scarlet and verdant hues as the polished stones catch the light.
A sturdy set of half plate whose entire frontal chest piece is taken up by the image of a winged, radiant eye that stares unflinchingly out through the scars and gashes of innumerable battles.
A set of scale mail fashioned from the alchemically strengthened scales of a giant, dire cobra. The serpent’s massive hypodermics fangs serve as the armor’s pauldrons.
A chainmail shirt that covers the torso, decorated with dozens of tiny ivy leaves, forged of steel and lacquered a verdant green, woven amongst the metal rings. The chains themselves have been stained a dark brown, creating the appearance of armor made from healthy vines or rejuvenated wicker.
A set of armor fashioned of rough, slate grey leather, studded with polished brass rivets. The armor’s chest piece is emblazoned with a stylized black tower.
A translucent, green-tinted breastplate that resembles thick glass in every way but its durability, which is somehow as resilient as typical armor.
A perfectly smooth, octagonal shield made of starmetal that bears an animated iridescent galaxy design, that slowly moves and twinkles with celestial starlight.
A full set of steel plate mail tinted a deep crimson and sporting a helm featuring a pair of horns, one of which is cracked in half. The armor is extremely conspicuous due to the massive, blood red, spiked metal shoulder plates.
A soft, hairy suit of padded armor made entirely out of black, dire spider hairs, with four strange holes in the back. If the armor is worn during sleep, the wielder dreams of sitting next to the Spider Queen herself, who sheds praise and seductive wiles on the wielder. At the end of the dream the dark Goddess leans down for a kiss and the wielder wakes up as soon as their lips meet.
A small, rounded steel buckler with a surface so smooth and polished it could be used as a mirror to shave with.
A set of plate mail crafted from beautiful grey steel gilded with polished gold inlay. The armor gives a natural sense of comfort, safety and home to the wielder and any allies who sees it.
A large asymmetrical set of hide armor consisting of tainted animal skins, grisly trophies and foul misshapen runes that are painful to look upon.
A shield whose face is dark and reflective. Circles of pure white energy spread from its center whenever it deflects blows like ripples in a pond.
A set of old-fashioned armor (Half plate statistics) with large, flat arm guards on each shoulder and a full-length mail hauberk slit down the front and rear for ease in riding. It is a colored a deep purple, almost black and is bound by bleached leather laces dyed lavender. The edges of the armor plates are gilded and in some areas decorated with gold traceries evoking the open plains.
A strange suit of plate mail that seems to be made from an unidentifiable greenish rock, with various rock plates covered by strange runes. A multitude of stalagmite-like spikes of varying sizes protrude along the arms and shoulders.
A dull breastplate, stained with blood and rust. The armor has a puncture in it, where the wielder's heart would be. The edges of the puncture are rough but they extend out of the breastplate as though it was punctured from the inside-out. The damage is disturbing in origin but not serious enough that the armor’s quality of protection is hampered by it.
A shining knight’s plate mail that is a work of inspired artistry, every inch covered in intricate detailing, engravings and inlaid with finely worked silver. A shimmering cloak of blue, lined with soft fur, flutters behind the armor, held in place by a heavy golden brooch in the shape of a grail chalice. The armor is adorned with countless devotional tokens and sacred icons, from holy beads to miniature pendants carved from finger bones of saints into the likeness of holy symbols of Random Good Gods. The helmet is topped by a majestic unicorn of silver, surrounded by a host of candles on short spikes that when lit, cast a halo of light around the wielder's person.
A ramshackle set of plate mail consisting of a misshapen collection of shields and breastplates, no doubt scavenged from the crafter’s fallen foes. Layered overtop of the various metals lies a tunic of flayed skin sewn together from what appears to be at least dozens of said fallen foes.
A baroque, suit of sculpted plate mail forged from ensorcelled gold. Tendrils of dark energy constantly caress the skin of the bearer, who occasionally hears faint whispering promises of perverse pleasures awaiting the proper host.
A large rectangular tower shield made of seven layers of hardened leather, faced with a layer of steel that is embossed with the image of a seven pointed star.
A chain shirt of exceptionally fine texture and quality. Black threads of spider silk appear to have been woven in among the metal rings.
A shout shield covered in splotches of purple stains that upon close inspection smell like wine. The shield appears to have been made from the bottom of a large wine barrel and is a surprisingly decent piece of armor.
A tower shield made entirely of ancient stone, perhaps from a slab from an archaic temple or long forgotten tomb. Adorned on the bulwark’s front is a scowling, bearded face with leaves and roots for hair, challenging any would-be opponents to stand the test of time.
A set of leaf-like scale mail with a pair of dull steel spaulders resting overtop. The armor plates over the shoulders have been artfully forged to resemble snarling wolf heads.
A set of ring mail that appears to be made of jaguar hide reinforced with disks of polished black onyx, yet is far too lightweight for that to be the case. The armor seems to slowly draw in the light around it, noticeably dimming the area immediately surrounding it.
A suit of imposing half plate armor. The breastplate has been forged from dark iron, as has the chainmail beneath. The right arm ends in a brutal gauntlet with thick spikes protruding from the knuckles. The helmet is also adorned with similar spikes, and a viewer gets the distinct impression that being struck by either would be most unpleasant.
An unusual chainmail shirt, forged from thousands of interlocking azure steel rings. Further reinforcing the armor is a pair of black leather pauldrons, and a matching chest covering that tapers down to a series of flexible scales near the abdomen. The masterful craftsmanship of this piece combines the durability of metal with the suppleness of leather.
A set of hide armor made from the pelts of wolfs. The armor is in decent condition that offers good protection. The aesthetic of the hood is made from a wolf's head.
A dented and rented breastplate repaired with a bright and shiny gold leaving streaks of glimmering metal among the hard iron. The wound it depicts was a mortal one, a cleft down the shoulder to the navel; front and back. The armor is no weaker than any other, in fact it seems sturdier than other examples of its kind. Sometimes the wielder feels a stitch in his side running shoulder to navel, the kind of pain a toothache brings, with a gnawing pinching squeeze of pain, then instantly gone as quickly as it came.
A suit of plate mail composed entirely of black plates, each joint and engraved line made to fit smoothly over its bearer's body. A skirt of black, oiled mail hangs from the waist, joined seamlessly to the armor as if a natural part of it. The neck is collared with steel that leads to a smooth, domed helmet topped with two spiraled black horns, like those of a dragon bent low.
A set of hide armor that's supple as leather. The material looks like steel, sometimes blackened and sometimes silvery and Knowledgeable PC's will be able to identify it the skin of a gorgon.
A full set of interlocking chain mail armor. It consists of a mail coif, leggings and a sleeved mail shirt worn over full leather padding.
A ridged suit of half plate forged of blued steel, adorned with numerous spikes and decorations.
A cheap suit of leather armor made of cow hide that no doubt belonged to a member of a nearby militia.
A footman’s light shield of kingly steel and poplar, decorated with five diagonal orange stripes on a black field.
A heavy shield made of pebbled grey leather stretched on pine displaying an indigo banner reading “Faith Is the Wages of Terror” on a white field.
A set of plate armor fashioned to make the wielder resemble a demon. The helmet resembles a horned demon head, and its wielder looks out of the open, fang filled mouth. The armored gauntlets have large wicked claws over each finger that look sharp enough to disembowel a man with a single swipe.
A splendid, grooved, brass edged breastplate.
A strange copper breastplate covered in verdigris and decorated with merfolk symbols that are mostly worn away.
A set of Random Armor stained a rich Random Bright Colour with good quality dye that doesn't fade or wash out.
A set of scale mail consisting of lacquered animal horn strung together in parallel rows using a fine cord. The suit contains a breastplate, greaves and a leggings.
A set of leather lamellar consisting of thick rawhide pieces, lacquered and laced together to form a cuirass and skirt. It's more sturdy than normal leather armor (Studded leather statistics), but only just.
A good leather breastplate (Breastplate statistics) made almost entirely from thick, heavy, brown, leather, providing a rugged, solid level of construction that will withstand rigorous use. The breastplate consists of several layers of leather plating that have been successively mounted overtop one another, creating a defensible and protective piece of armor in a simple style. The armor contains almost no metal components.
A shield made by fastening together planks of pine wood, side by side then covering them with animal skin and affixing an iron boss into the center. The edge is rimmed with more hide and the shield is meant to be chewed up as a battle goes on. When an enemy strikes with an axe or sword, the weapon can be caught in the shield, then it only requires a simple twist to disarm the enemy. When an enemy makes a melee weapon attack that deals slashing or piercing damage against the wielder that misses, the player can use an action equivalent to an attack of opportunity (See Note) to block and catch the weapon with the shield. Once stuck in the layers of hide and soft wood, the wielder and the enemy immediately make opposed strength checks. If the wielder wins, the enemy is disarmed and the weapon flies 15 feet in a random direction. If the enemy wins, he is able to dislodge the weapon while retaining a grip on it. In either case, catching a weapon damages the shield’s wood and leather construction and after catching five weapons (See Note:) the shield is considered broken and no longer provides adequate protection but can be fixed by those with the skills to do so. Fixing the shield requires proper tools (Leatherworking or woodcarving) and material resources equal to 20% of the total value of a typical shield for each time the shield has caught a weapon. In order to make use of the shield’s disarming qualities the wielder must have practiced with it with a sparring partner for at least one hour in the past week. This practice can be done with a sheathed sword or blunted training weapon and therefore doesn’t harm the shield’s integrity. —Note: It can catch five weapons in total, whether the disarming is successful or not. On the fifth catch the weapon sticks, but when it is pulled free the shield is destroyed. If your system doesn’t use attacks of opportunity use the following rule: Once the wielder attempt to catch a weapon with the shield, he is no longer able to do so until the start of his next turn.

Strong-Side Boxer (Brawler Archetype)
The world is full of all manner of martial arts, be they purely unarmed or make use of weaponry and other aids. Some are used to hone the body, others are used in warfare, or to prepare oneself for the inevitability of it.
Today, we are looking at a brawler archetype based on the Dambe fighting style of the Hausa people of West Africa. It is meant to emulate the use of a weapon and shield in some respects, with the lead hand being left free to try and catch or deflect oncoming blows, and the lead leg being wrapped in chain, which can be used defensively or offensively. Meanwhile, the back arm, or strong-side, is wrapped in a rope-bound cloth and used as the primary striking appendage, made all the deadlier if bound in broken glass or nails with a layer of resin, though this is outright banned in modern times. Either way, it is a style that favors defense with one side of the body, and offense with the other.
In the Golarion setting, it would make sense to have this style crop up in Garund or the Mwangi Expanse as a cultural style for a brawler, though of course anyone can pick it up. This archetype seeks to emulate it in its mechanics, to good effect, I feel.
True to the style, the brawler enters combat with their free hand forward, and use it to catch and deflect blows and weapons, in addition to as a grappling appendage. What’s more, the act of using their arm in such a manner is similar enough to the techniques of using a buckler that they can use techniques associated with bucklers with this style.
The other arm, the strong side or spear arm, is less useful for high-dexterity tasks when so wrapped up. But it has it’s advantages, as the boxer can indeed use resin to bind broken glass or nails to the bound arm temporarily, altering the damage caused, and causing profusely bleeding wounds in foes, which only increase with their mastery.
They also can bind their leading leg in chain to complete the equipment associated with the style, using the leg to block blows, as well as the added weight to improve their leg sweeps.
Gaining some impressive AC and dealing extra bleed damage, this archetype may lack mastery over specific combat maneuvers or weapons, but they can be quite devastating in their own right. I suggest, in addition to keeping a supply of the nails and such on hand, as well as enchanting the leg chain as armor, to build the character with singling out a foe and locking them down, though also remember that their flexibility should be used when needed, even making use of buckler or shield-specific feats.
To better prepare for playing a character with this archetype, I’d suggest not only looking up not only the dambe boxing style, but also information on Hausa and other cultures of West Africa. However, you could also simply take the archetype out of that context as well, but perhaps reading up on them will give way to some clever inspiration? As always, try to treat all cultures with respect.
Eagerly picking up the strong-side style to defend himself, former trox slave Kerkiz travels the land peacefully, making money in fighting competitions to get by. However, when slavers and tyrants are found, so can he, one mighty fist coated in a layer of resin and glass.
Though frowned upon by true ascetics, the city of Pelmor is a mecca of martial arts thanks to it’s impressive arena, where masters of various weapon arts face those who fight with fist and foot. The only rule during the annual “Clash of Masters” is that those who enter must use an established style, and many would-be dojos have a secret, or not-so-secret desire for their school style to be recognized. This year warriors seeking to prove the value of strong-side have arrived from across the sea to compete.
Birds are sacred to the tengu, even non-corvids, and they have many styles of martial art that mimic them. One such art is called Twisting Beak, and uses one hand to emulate the dexterous manipulations of many birds, while the other fist, coated in sharp substances, represents the deadly striking beak.

You can produce a really big images of fine smaller pictures which you are able to hang over your own place or give them as a gift to your family and pals or all tiles. But is Cross Stitch Patterns consistently were exactly the exact same as now?Cross Stitching leaves to get a time also it shifted through out many years. Years ago girls commenced cross stitching as young as 5 years of age and did all their lifetime to it. Nevertheless, it was not just a spare time activity at that time for them. They stitched maybe not merely for their home however also they cross sew their garments to show everyone else how they mastered this particular craft. There have been days when girls throughout the village revealed in garments people may decide on which one were the optimal/optimally venture and that they stitched. Sometimes boys chose that a girls to check throughout her job. Thus stitching plaid a big role in ladies life. There ended up a lot of cross stitch designs and layouts from old occasions . however, it wasn't only a typical patterns, all of patterns had any significance and for different intention people built different designs. As an example, weddings always were more rich in cross legged designs which express fantasies of happy and very long existence for newly-married. Patterns at different places had various meanings but usually old layouts included a great deal of critters (represents independence and beauty at certain states ), bushes and sunlight (normally reflect fertility), houses and ships (at certain cultures reflect riches ). Some times that routines had been pretty easy to produce although not pointless. It means when our ancestors dressed man a fabrics they can state this man washow old and how rich he/she was, what position in culture he/she has, just how prudent he/she was and so on. Would you think about exactly how every big or small party persons dressed up in a excellent fabrics with stitching from top to bottom and using this stitching you're able to readily emptied out exactly what afternoon they observe, exactly what they stand for and that they are.Cross Stitching comes with a good heritage and a number of individuals still discover that it's exciting to make older style designs. Of this layouts look classic. But if you understand the route of each and every crossstitch Pattern work won't be only a craft, it will be an email for everyone.

Camelot: What Makes Us Unique
This particular Camelot character has probably never existed before or since.
Back in 2004, I was meeting a friend at a bar in Boston. I opened the door to look in for him, saw that he wasn’t there, and backed out, elbowing in the stomach the man behind me. I turned around and saw that it was the governor of Massachusetts. Since then, I’ve liked to think that I’m the only person to have ever elbowed Mitt Romney in the stomach while he was walking into a bar. I’m sure plenty of people have elbowed him in the stomach on other occasions.
This is the kind of story I like, because it’s an assemblage of circumstances that has probably never occurred to anyone else. I look for those in life. I may not be the world record holder in any sport or hobby, but there’s a decent chance that by the end of my life, I will have published more blog articles on CRPGs than anyone else alive. If that turns out not to be true, I’ll only need one other modest qualifier (“than any other Mainer”) to make it true. I guarantee that I’m the only person in the world to have my particular combination of jobs (if you include CRPG blogging as one of them). I don’t hold the record for the number of airline miles flown between 2010 and 2018, but I’ve got to be within the top 10%, and when you’re in the top 10%, you only need one or two additional circumstances to make yourself unique. It’s possible that I’m the record-holder out of Bangor, Maine, for instance.
My enthusiasm for unique experiences filters into CRPGs and probably explains why I like open-world sandbox games so much. I don’t like the idea that I’ve reached the end of a game in the exact same position and circumstances as everyone else who has ever played the game. When you can’t even name your character, this is particularly infuriating. Look at my recent review of Deadly Towers, for instance. How do you really know it was me playing that game? I could have taken those screen shots from anyone. At least Dragon Warrior displayed the first four letters of “Chester.”
These issues got me thinking about the peculiar trade-off that exists between player and character. Think of a game like Pac-Man. When a champion like Billy Mitchell achieves a perfect score, we don’t say, “Wow, you created a great character there. You put a lot into him.” The very statement is absurd; every player’s Pac-Man is the same as everyone else’s. Instead, all praise goes to the hands and eyes of the player himself. In contrast, when we watch the ways that various players have won the Mulmaster Beholder Corps battle in Curse of the Azure Bonds, we look for clues in the characters–their levels, their spells, their weapons, their movements. We’re aware that there’s a player behind it all, of course–perhaps a very intelligent and strategic one. But his success is slightly diffused by the imposition of the characters. We are aware that his strategy only “works” because of the allowances of the game. Perhaps most important, we are aware that we could have done the same thing, whereas no studying of his technique is likely to make most of us like Billy Mitchell.
It is for these reasons that I don’t think it’s really possible to be “good at” a game like Skyrim. Experienced, sure. Patient, definitely. But “good”–what does that even mean? Early in its existence, some players proudly posted images on Reddit of their characters clad in leather armor and wielding pick-axes (possibly the worst weapon in the game) killing dragons. I thought it was silly. Either the game has enough flexibility to allow you to do such a thing or it doesn’t. It says nothing about your skill as a player that you were able to do it except that you were willing to use the game’s resources to grind, or enchant that pick-axe, or improve that armor, or carry and drink a hundred potions, or whatever you did to make it possible.
I just bought Irene the Myst 25th anniversary collection for Christmas. That is a “good at” game. A player that possesses the strength of puzzle-solving to blaze his way to the end without any spoilers is an impressive player. But his end-game screenshot is the same as everyone else and the “character” of the game is essentially invisible, a no-one, a ghost.
In many modern games, “uniqueness” extends quite literally to the character’s appearance.
In case it’s not clear, I’m not particularly interested in being “good at” CRPGs. I don’t play them for competitive reasons. I play them to enjoy the strategy, tactics, world-building, plots, and sense of character development. I like a challenge, but only a modest one–a temporary bump in a game that, because of its very nature (particularly because of reloading), you’re almost certain to eventually overcome.
Many people prize the opposite. I suppose even I do, in different circumstances. The value of most competitive games is that everyone’s playing the same game under the same circumstances, with no real imposition of “character” between the player and the performance. A king in chess isn’t a “character”; he’s just a piece. You don’t give him a name, and he doesn’t acquire new abilities as he defeats pawns and levels up. When he moves to take a rook, there are no probabilities associated with the encounter. When he wins, all glory goes to the player who moves him.
When my king reaches the end of a game, on the other hand, I want him to be my king–a unique character that no other player has won with. I want my endgame screenshots to look different from everyone else’s. And in those screenshots you should be able to tell something about how I played the game. Was I careful or daring? Did I rely on brains or brawn? Did I favor equipment or skills? What role-playing choices did I make along the way?
To me, some of the worst RPGs are closer to chess. Your “character” is just a gambit that you’ve moving across the screen, offering you no sense of connection or identity. These are essentially arcade games with a few nods to RPG mechanics. We’ve seen a million of them: Caverns of Freitag, Gateway to Apshai, Sword of Kadash, Sword of Fargoal. Even worse is when the game offers RPG-style inventory and leveling, but at fixed intervals along a linear plot, so that “character development” is just an illusion and everyone does reach the end the same as everyone else.
The best RPGs, however, offer plenty of opportunities to make your character your own:
Name
Selection of race, sex, alignment, and class
Attributes
Skills and talents
Inventories, especially those with multiple slots
NPC interaction, dialogue, and role-playing choices
Choice of what order in which to do quests and side-quests
Ability to grind, or not (only meaningful without artificially low level caps)
Customization of character appearance
Statistics, achievements, and trophies
The multiplication of these various factors means that many modern RPGs feature characters as unique as the humans who create them, finally achieving some of the sense of ownership and identification that tabletop RPGs allowed from the outset.
Every player may have had to do exactly what I did to win Ultima IV, but at least my name and the number of turns are unique.
Camelot is an early game, and thus not as advanced in the originality of its characters. But of the single-player PLATO games, it comes the furthest. When I play it, I do not feel as if I am feeding so many characters into a meat grinder, as I did with The Dungeon, The Game of Dungeons, and Orthanc. Its allowances for stealth, magic, and multiple fighting styles, paired with the strategic nature by which you must explore dungeon exploration, create as close to a unique experience as anything we’re going to get for many years. If nothing else, the combination of items in the 13 inventory slots likely creates characters for each player that no one else has ever played.
I’ve put about 12 hours into the game since the last Camelot entry and I’ve gotten a lot more powerful–enough to take on dungeon Level 5 with relative ease–but it’s still slightly frustrating how long its’ taking to finish the game, much more so because I keep dying and resetting my score back to -99,999. But I recognize that it was designed for different players in different circumstances.
There was an interesting moment the other night where creator Josh Tabin happened to be logged into the system at a moment that I got stuck. I had teleported into a section of Level 4 that offered only one exit: a downward chute. Unfortunately, I had taken a Potion of Levitation upon beginning the expedition (you always want to use Scrolls of Protection, Potions of Cepacol, and Potions of Levitation at the outset of each expedition if you have them). It turns out that Levitation stops you from using chutes, even deliberately. The condition doesn’t wear off until you return to town. There were no other exits from the area, and I was out of Scrolls of Recall. The only solution I could come up with is to wait until the turn of every hour, when the dungeon levels respawn, and kill everything in the half-dozen rooms I had access to, hoping to get a Scroll of Recall at some point. But since Josh was there, I informed him of my trouble and he opened a secret door for me, then spent some time patching the game so that even if you’re under the effect of levitation, you can manually choose to take a chute.
Other things about the game since I last wrote:
As I previously mentioned, the game occasionally gives you a specific monster to kill before it will let you level up. It’s very erratic. I had a period from roughly Level 10 to 20 where I got a quest every level. Then I didn’t get any at all between Levels 20 and 29.
A “Palantir” tells you at what level you can find the object of your quest. If you’re already on that level, it tells you the specific coordinates. Of course, if the hour turns while you’re still seeking the quest creature, everything resets.
As you move downward, enemies get harder but rewards get better. Some of the magic item rewards are awesome. I’ve had a couple of Wands of Fire that completely clear out rooms in one turn. The problem is how frequently they require recharging and the expense thereof. The game’s economy is still excellent. I make a lot of tough choices between leveling up, recharging, and purchasing new items.
It turns out that items don’t have a fixed number of charges but rather a small probability of running out within any given use. High intelligence seems to lower this chance.
Some of the best items that you can find increase your attributes. Manuals and tomes increase them permanently by one point while various potions increase them temporarily for several points. I have maxed out my strength, intelligence, and constitution with these items, and I must be close on the other two.
A Manual of Bodily Health raises my constitution.
Scrolls of Taming, Orbs of Entrapment, and Wands of Charming all work on different creatures. I’ve learned that when I lose a companion (or one leaves), I want to head down to the lowest dungeon level on which I can survive to start hunting for another. About six hours into this session, I was able to charm a succubus, and it’s remained with me ever since–an extremely powerful ally.
I probably mentioned this earlier, but there are special rooms on each level that the creator calls “stud rooms.” They feature enemies 2-3 levels harder than the normal ones on the same level, but with rewards 2-3 times greater. Any new expedition needs to begin with clearly the stud rooms that you know you can clear.
In one of the “stud rooms.” Seven green dragons are a little much for me. The Scroll of Identification gives grim odds.
There’s a magic item called a “Tardis” that resets the dungeon in between the normal hourly resets. It allows you to quickly hit the stud rooms multiple times in a row until it runs out of magic. It’s incredibly useful but back in the day when there were multiple players hitting the dungeon at the same time, it must have been very annoying for some of them.
The two players on the leaderboard who have won the game both have Level 60 characters, so I assume that’s the game’s level cap. Thus, I’m halfway there. I probably won’t have much more to say about Camelot until I win, so hopefully I can get it done this week while I also wrap up Challenge of the Five Realms. I’ll say this for Camelot: it’s the first PLATO game that I’ve enjoyed lingering with, rather than blasting through it just to document its historical value.
Time so far: 40 hours

1-10 - Breaking Down the Power Level
From the start of my patchy teaching career, beginning as a brother then a parent, my general ethos towards explaining the world has been to never patronise. I have developed some semblance of self-awareness over the years and so may at times simplify or reign in tangents - not everyone needs to know the minutiae to gain a broad understanding of a topic. My aim though is to never shy away from trying to provide a full answer to a question posed, no matter the age or background of the poser. An earnest and enthusiastic question deserves a considered answer with all the nuance one’s expertise can provide in the situation. I trust those listening to instead communicate where clarification would be helpful, or sift through what they need in the moment and chew over the rest later.
In contrast, there’s a trend in wider media to cling to ‘consumers’ of scientific content by ratcheting up the the sensational, the over-simplified, the drama that may or may not be manufactured for entertainment. Narratives within popular science help guide and contain the message within (no one wants to be subjected to a list of facts, even regarding ki) but often the science is so watered down the only substance of the piece is the fluff. Those with a genuine palate for science (or history, or literature, or…) are left underwhelmed on repeated readings and sometimes even mistrusting of the expertise involved.
It is for those reasons I decided to include this section as a hat tip to the insatiably curious, though for those among you with little appetite for a smattering of mathematics, I first bring you a tangential, and completely true, offering in the form of a fish.
I have spoken frequently of a model for ki. By that I mean a story that explains the effects of ki we see using fundamental quantities. The story links cause and effect in the form of equations, transforming the qualitative to the quantitative.
The model presented here is not perfect. All models are an approximation to the truth and there are many simplifications (particularly in this version and I will highlight where), but broadly the model performs well and the limitations of the model are well defined. I trust you to take away what is most useful to you now, and I hope this treatment gives potential undergraduates a taster for some of the more theoretical aspects of a course on ki-use I hope will materialise in the near-future.
When in battle one question sits on the tip of everyone’s tongue: “What is the enemy’s power level?” This is proxy phrase to ask many questions at once. What is the opponent’s potential? How many people will be required to tackle them? How much strength should I use straight out of the gate? What is the risk to the local environment, the nearby populace, the planet? The highest power level will not always win a fight. Power level differences of an order of magnitude, even sometimes two, can be overcome with teamwork and sound strategy. Getting an early indication of the opponent’s location and power can give your team vital time to plan and distribute yourselves effectively.
As we discussed in a previous section, the idea of a power-level measuring device - the scouter - was first introduced to us by Freeza’s personal army and deconstructed by Bulma.
The original scouters performed perfectly well in the situation they were designed for, searching for clusters of life-forms with power levels of 0-2 (encompassing the vast majority of people in the Universe) to allow the possessors to commit mass murder extremely efficiently. The scouters were able to stretch beyond this range, reaching higher power levels of 5.3; any higher and the harmonic oscillator arrays constructed to respond to the vibrations in the ki field (with technology developed along a similar branch to Dr Gero’s) would break. Specifically: the atomic ‘pendulums’ of varied masses contained within ion traps would be kicked out of the holding magnetic fields and flung away into the rest of the structure, shorting the electronics and usually exploding the device. The designers believed the likelihood of any of Freeza’s forces encountering someone that strong so low they didn’t deem it necessary to prioritise the scouter-wearer’s safety. Clearly Freeza’s true strength, peaking above a power level of eight at that time, was hidden from the vast majority of his forces.
The fully artificial scouters were not flexible enough to cope with everything life could throw at it. Life itself on the other hand has an amazing capacity to give as good as it gets. I can sense everything from tiny fogs of ki in less-than-clean water to the brightest kis in the Universe standing almost blindingly close, and I can do it all without shorting my own circuitry. Whilst the mechanical scouters have a range of 0 to 5.3, the newer versions developed on Earth can cope with -1 to 14, (or 0.1 to 100,000,000,000,000 unlogged). That is tested. Hypothetically they should remain accurate up to a power level of 17 but we never want to be in situation where we’re reading that. Our method’s downside is the loss of precision compared to the original scouter, which was able to differentiate just as well between power levels of 1 and 2 and 10,000 and 10,001. Our scouters do maintain a 0.1% precision however, which is usually sufficient. Anyone wanting finer precision to monitor and argue their progress needs another hobby.
Capsule Corp employees have for the most part stayed away from playing with the biophysics of life, knowing the trouble and potential backfire meddling can cause through the work of Dr Gero. What little research and development that has been done in this field has been led by Bulma and Mai through all above-board personal funding. The new scouters are a result of this off-piste research and utilise a genetic modification of bioluminescent bacteria found in a tropical fish.
The fish in question - the blue-finned angelfish - exclusively inhabits the coral reefs around one of the many South Sea archipelagos. They’re crepuscular feeders, making use of the changing light levels at dawn and dusk that other fish and invertebrates struggle to cope with. When hunting for prey like small fish and krill they spread into what can appear to be a dangerously loose shoal. What makes this strategy effective is the beautiful symbiotic relationship the fish has with a bacteria within the fish’s transparent skin along the fins and tail. The bacteria glows neon yellow using bioluminescence near low power levels (-2 to -1.5) and flickers in a predictable pattern with the ki signature, the wave of flickering allowing for the triangulation of distance. When the glow starts, the fish play a game of hot and cold until close enough to pinpoint their prey through smell. The now brighter glow brings the rest of the shoal to feed into the early night.
Why then are are these fish known as the blue-finned and not yellow-finned angelfish? Well, they are named as yellow locally, though zoologists from the mainland way-back-when never much listened to local expertise, routinely removing chosen specimens from their natural environment to study in the comfort of the lab. As the scientists approached the fish in the tank back home their fins glowed a bright blue and the fish reacted poorly, racing to escape. It transpires the bacteria can luminesce over two colours, yellow for prey and blue for predators - the latter covering intensities of 0.3-2. This range catches the bigger fish and reef sharks that home in on the yellow glow of a feeding shoal. When a wave of blue creeps across the shoal in the near-dark, the fish know to hide. It just so happens this range encompasses the scientists’ own power levels, too. To the scientists with clipboards then, these were only ever blue-finned glowing fish.
The locals know of the fish’s defence intimately and is a source of great amusement. There’s a shallow, natural harbour in one of the smaller islands that, very rarely, a large shoal of angelfish will chase prey into. The harbour is sealed and all the boats dragged onto the shore. A call is then sent to the other islands for an impromptu night-long festival - a spontaneous get-together and chance to catch-up. Traditionally, the arrival of the fish had been seen as a mixed omen, that bad luck is ongoing or shortly arriving. Assembling a group to challenge the fish twice-touched by a creator god (once for each colour) however will guide the selection of the warrior or leader to pull the islands through a time of strife.
The challenge is as follows. Representatives from each attending island volunteer to take on the fish. Their true reasons for participating are varied: trained warriors, children nearing adulthood, people looking to impress an onlooker they’re sweet on, older fishermen showing off their talent, the local clown putting on a show. Each representative is then painted over the course of the afternoon by friends and family with a glowing set of pigments (not made from the fish fins, I hasten to add). Some designs are beautifully intricate; most are messy, child-sized handprints. Everyone then waits for twilight with great anticipation.
The participants take their turn to wade in and try to catch a fish in the harbour with only a net - the great difficulty being of course that the fish will glow blue and alert the shoal to avoid the intruder. This leaves an ever-moving empty ring of water around the participant to flounder in, struggling to cast the net and maybe just reaching the shoal edge. The larger their genki, the wider that ring and the greater the challenge. The winner is decided by elected older folk, and is usually a combination of how fast a fish was caught and how much paint was left on the challenger’s body. About half of participants catch and release a fish, nearly everyone trips, and the spectators have a great time.
Nowadays the omens and winners are not taken seriously beyond passing on fantastical stories, spooking the children or for gaining bragging rights. Usually.
The year before the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament, a shoal made their way into the harbour. The residents of one of many islands answered the call, the group including the young Papayaman and his family. Their island hadn’t been doing so well in recent years; the Moon’s twice vanishing and reappearing act dampened the tides for a time and their delicate yellow mangrove trees took a hit. The entire food chain around the islands and reef was disrupted and the trees would take decades to recover. As the slow-growing tree bark is prized for its tannin, the island’s economy took a brutal hit, too. The residents, previously relatively comfortable, had eaten into their savings and were near the brink. Going to the festival was supposed to be a rare fun day out. As the eldest sibling at nine years old, the boy who would become Papayaman had already resolved to compete in the hope he would be worthy enough to help his family.
The evening went smoothly until the boy took the long walk down towards the water. As he hit the shoreline the fish retreated, that blue ring growing to taunt him, he believed. When in the water the scale of the challenge stretched before him. There was no way he would be able to throw the net that far out, let alone hold onto it to drag a fish back. He became more and more frustrated as his time and paint dwindled and his anger, something he rarely felt, rose… then burst. For a moment the entire bay was full of blue stars, lighting up the dusk. Then the fish bolted, some even jumping onto the shore in a frantic escape attempt, causing pandemonium amongst the younger children.
The boy did not catch a fish himself in the end. But there was no doubt about his potential throughout the archipelago, and he was brought into warrior training as soon as he returned home. He was then selected to attend the tournament on nearby Papaya Island to earn money for his village. Although he didn’t win, due to his efforts and subsequent training the island eventually did recover.
A number of years later the shoal returned and the now young man eventually found a way to catch that fish, finally marking (from his own perspective at least) his graduation from training with my father. And as they say, the rest is history.
My first encounter with the fish was a little more begrudging. I had just “moved” to East City for a postdoctoral position into a cosy office with two others funded on the same grant. We got on well and I was hoping for a relatively relaxing couple of years. That was thrown out the window within the first month when the zebrafish aficionados in the labs two floors below decided to branch out, nabbing a number of blue-finned angelfish to get to grips with the bioluminescence. They’d hypothesised the glowing bacteria were responding to the fish’s excitement and stress levels (apologies for not correcting you sooner) and were planning on running behavioural studies.
Those fish hated me. Even at that distance, my natural aura was just the right strength to set them off. No one could figured out why the fish were constantly stressed during lab hours, until of course the news reached our office and I put two and two together. My chronically guilty self had the most fun five months suppressing my genki at work until the lab moved from data collection to analysis and the fish returned home. Still, I’m grateful I got to peruse the results from the bacterial DNA sequencing. I relayed the gist to Bulma and she was able to isolate, then modify, the particular colour and ki range the bacteria glowed at. I’ve contacted the old lab members for co-authorship on this new work. I hope they’re not too mad.
The new scouters use these modified bacteria to read power levels and ki signatures. Stacked into mini vials filled with agar, the bacteria respond to ki much like cone cells in the eye respond to light wavelengths. The spectrum of light emitted by the bacteria indicate the intensity of ki hitting the scouter, and the specific pulsing is monitored and decomposed to identify ki signatures - much like instruments can be isolated from a song. With at least two detector packs and accelerometers to track the movement of the wearer, ki signatures can be triangulated and located. A simple pair of glasses (less conspicuous than the original scouters) can be used display results - one lens for a simple overlay or both for a full 3D effect. The isolation isn’t fantastic at a distance as the baseline separation between the detectors isn’t that great, but in relatively close quarters they work perfectly. Better yet are the systems Mai built into the jet flier and jeep windshield that give a heads-up display of the scene for both the driver and passenger. Due to “popular” demand there is a smartphone app, though sadly the hardware is not included.
All in all we’re pretty well-equipped to quantify overall power level. The measure was rendered completely useless by Earth’s martial artists, however. As soon as Freeza’s army found we could suppress our ki and therefore their scouters were unable to accurately predict any form of maximal potential, the tech was discarded. With the new scouters, getting beyond that one measure to find all the components - genki boosts, yuuki, shouki, the base power, flow suppressions, effort - is entirely possible and we can fully model a person’s ki-use and potential. The equations for the model (omitting the calculus) are as follows.
The overall power P (without being logged) can be defined as the total energy E_T divided by the time interval t, or
We know the total energy can be expressed as
Or, as the sum of energy derived from the field (E_F) and what is remaining of genki energy E_G,rem. This can be substituted into the first equation to form
Genki energy E_G is divided into two parts: the genki that is amplified (E_G,amp) and the remaining genki (E_G,rem), so the above is expanded to
From section 1-9 we know E_G,amp can be expressed with the fraction of genki chosen to be converted from genki to field, f_GF. Substituting for E_G,rem we get
Recall also from that section E_F is a function of E_G,amp, the converted fraction fGF and the efficiency of amplification from genki to field, a_GF,
Substituting through we get
And then simplified down:
Let’s take stock here. We’ve been able to break down the power level into a number of base stats - the amplification, the fraction converted and genki energy. As a sanity check here, if the amplification of genki (a_GF) is less than 1 this will lead to that central bracket becoming negative and the entire combined power level less than if it were from genki alone. This correctly mimics the disappointing early stages of learning to amplify genki, where you get less out than you put in. You will need to persevere!
We can further break down the genki energy into the flow rate of particles from the centre Q and the average charge per particle, q.
We use the average charge rather than an exact value due to the slight variation genki charge can possess, the variation of which is mirrored in the colour spectrum of the aura. In extreme cases (like the kaioken with a double peak in section 1-8) the two averages can be noted and incorporated in a full treatment. The assumption of only one smooth peak and therefore one mean is usually made.
From section 1-8 we also know that the flow Q is the flux Phi_p multiplied by the surface area A. This is simplified. The flux measured can be directionally dependent if the ki-user is focusing down an attack for example. For the most part though, the aura is isotropic (the same in all directions). In reality the calculation should be a closed integral over the centre surface, modelled as a sphere. This then all ties together as
and substituting in
The power level is not a static value. The surface area A can change with transformation or suppression, as can the average charge q. Both of these quantities are defined with dynamic variables. Remember from section 1-9 that yuuki (y, courage) can affect these manipulations of surface area and charge,
And
where A is the surface area at rest, q the average charge at rest, and f refers to the resultant fractional change the ki-user is affecting. e is the effort assigned to perform these changes. Theta refers to all the parameters needed to define the function translating effort and yuuki into that fractional change. From section 1-8 we know most ki-users step up in genki using those harmonically defined troughs of required effort and sit at one level rather than hovering in tricky spots. Yuuki modifies these curves by raising them, meaning the ki-user requires more effort to reach the same desired fractional change. Some levels even become ‘locked out’ entirely. These functions take the same wavey and upwards shape for everyone, though the actual width, height and ramp up of effort required will change between ki-users. Whilst these functions are complicated, a good approximation can be made with a relatively small number of parameters. Explicitly defining those functions is beyond the scope of this book, but suffice to say the parameters for those functions can be thought of as base stats, too.
Similar to yuuki, shouki (s,strength of will) feeds into the efficiency of conversion between genki and field energy in a similar fashion -
Where a_GF,0 is ones go-to conversion rate. Whereas yuuki affected the ki-users ability to change from natural outputs, in this case we do not perform any amplification naturally (though we have a habitual value) so shouki affects the ki-user’s ability to amplify genki at all - if shouki is 0, no amount of assigned effort will amplify genki.
There is an additional constraint on these values. One of course only has a limited amount of effort to give. Some must go into general thought and movement, so we can surmise
Knowing some manipulations of flow, charge and amplification would be downright impossible, this one inequality can help constrain the rest of the parameters considerably.
In full then, one rearranged form of the equation for a ki-user’s power level (omitting some nuances for legibility) is
Putting this all together, we have a number of default ‘base stats’ - A_0, q_0, a_GF,0 and Phi_p (along with the effort to flow rate, effort to genki charge and effort to amplification functions defined with θs) and the dynamic stats y, s, e_A, e_(A_GF) and e_q. From these there are a number of derived stats like f_GF, f_q, f_(a_GF), Q, q and the most useful split of power level, E_G and E_F .
Given some loose assumptions and probabilities assigned to each of these variables - so-called priors that were discussed in section 1-3 - one can monitor a changing power level and narrow down these assumptions using increasing evidence as time passes to give parameter estimates.
What kind of priors? We know some states of particle flow and genki charge are difficult to reach due to the harmonics inherent in the process, and so ki-users are going to avoid particular power levels due to the increase in effort required to hold them. We can assume ki-users will default to a habitual level of genki amplification. Flow rate will never increase above base without particular techniques like transformation. Charge never drops below the default level unless the flow rate is unnaturally high or the ki-user is exhausted. All of these assumptions can be programmed into the model as prior assumptions.
One must be careful with priors to never attribute zero probability to a possibility otherwise that one-in-a-million chance will never appear in the probable results in the updating model. I could assume that no one with a Earthling appearance could have a power-level above 2, for example. If I turn these assumption on my Uncle Krillin the model will give the best answer it can, maybe trying to say that he has a very efficient genki to field conversion rate to compensate for the lack of flexibility in the model. Instead, by allowing some very small, highly unlikely chance for an Earthling to have such a high natural power level, the updated prior will be pulled to this region with every new data point, showing the unlikely to be more and more possible.
When encountering odd enemies one may ‘widen the priors’ to encompass highly unlikely scenarios like godly-powered Earthlings. ‘Flattening the priors’ means allowing all possible scenarios. Whilst that sounds like the best idea, flattening leads to a large number of possible solutions when you know some combination of base stats are more likely to occur than others. Choosing priors for any kind of succession analysis is an art form in itself.
There can be a lot of information and possibilities to process when building up a picture of a ki-user, but with a careful set of tasks to perform in a calm environment, someone’s base stats at least can be obtained and updated on a semi-regular basis. This narrows down the parameter space before entering battle considerably, reducing the uncertainty when finding the dynamic variables. Some tasks include running up and down ki output from fully suppressed to maximum, or how quickly one can amplify a set amount of genki. For new enemies the scouter has to work overtime, but with every second of new information our intel improves considerably. Even if all the enemies’ parameters haven’t been constrained, the more varied their attacks and strategy the faster we can build up a picture to start answering key questions such as whether the enemy is holding back their strength.
For our team, Mai is able to feed us updates about each other’s status, allowing us to adjust the plan should someone be running low and too proud to admit it, or the enemy be surprisingly resilient. For all the rudimentary single word or single image telepathy usually thrown around the field, hearing an articulate voice in your ear confirming that you’re tired or Auntie Bulma yelling to calm down should the panic be setting in can be very disconcerting. I refer to ‘us’; I’m never very careful with the tiny earpiece and I blow it within minutes. As much as the data intrigues me I’m far too used to running from my own observations. I’m not the only one to have been on the sharp end of a scolding, the earpieces are notoriously difficult to keep intact. Pan has the longest survival time of forty-five minutes and even that’s contested as for the first half an hour she was deliberately suppressing as a feint.
The scouters are useful in the moment and for review, but their most interesting day-to-day function is how the software can track improvement. This of course leads to competition. Endless competition. From conversations I’ve overheard, the moment one of the kids feels they’ve improved the scouters are out. There are often disputes because someone is 'using the scouter wrong’ and Mai is dragged in to adjudicate or fix what turns out to be perfectly functional hardware… Bulma put her foot down very quickly on getting drawn into these arguments. Even the old guard cannot contain their curiosity and will play with them at parties for old times’ sake.
Realistically though, the live-feed technology is more a gimmick for us. We know each other well enough and are sadly so experienced that our gut reactions, whilst not quantifiable, are usually correct. In actuality, the technology as a whole continues to be developed for future use. It would be well-suited for personal status trackers across a large group to be fed back to a control hub, or to help tailor training for new ki-users to maximise their efforts.
“New ki-users”. For those who haven’t flicked to later chapters that phrase must be torture to read right now. I understand. This section now closes the ‘brief’ chapter on the theoretical framework behind ki and we will now move onto the practical elements. You can breathe. Speaking of, if you have been working on those centring exercises I’d hope you’d have found your centre by now, have fantastic posture and felt the first hints of the natural flow of genki with your breath. This is preparation that will, in the coming chapter, pay dividends.
Ah. During this chapter I did promise you a particular story. I hadn’t forgotten, nor have I left it deliberately late to tease. I wanted to put myself, friends and family in a wider context before tackling it lest there is any misunderstanding after. I also wanted to put the story front and centre in the textbook chapter I believe will be the most read because of the tale’s significance - not just to world history or tangentially to ki but to me.
The story’s about the Cell Games, and how I came to be that little boy on the hill.

Meet 500 Startups’ 26th batch of startups
Following TechCrunch’s coverage of 500 Startups’ 25th batch (and numbers 24, 23, 22, and 21, in case you wanted to go back in time), today we’re saying hello to the accelerator’s 26th cohort.
500 Startups, in case you weren’t aware, is a seed-stage accelerator and a collection of venture funds. The group, now with a few dozen accelerator batches under its belt, has several thousand companies in its universe. 500’s 26th cohort contains 29 companies, including a handful that we’d already heard of (Juked.gg, to pick one).
Data, diversity
Before we get to the startups themselves, a few notes. To get a handle on the companies included in the batch, TechCrunch spoke with Aaron Blumenthal, a venture partner at the firm. After sharing a number of batch metrics with TechCrunch, we pressed for a bit more detail on the makeup of the startups in the group.
Here’s a hybrid of our notes, and his details (condensed and edited for clarity), on the batch that the venture partner called “another rung on the ladder of our diversity and inclusion state of mind”:
37% of the startups are international. According to Blumenthal, “this particular batch from the ‘outside United States perspective’ is a little bit smaller — we usually see north of 50% outside the United States.”
30% of the companies’ founding teams include a woman. TechCrunch asked Blumenthal if that number was up, flat or down, to which he responded that 500’s “average is usually in the mid 30s or so. Our last batch, for example, was 26% female. And this one is more [in] that direction which, of course, we are a fan of.”
70% of the founding teams of the batch “have one or more founders who identify as a racial minority,” according to the firm.
It would be interesting to see a more granular breakdown for future cohorts, but the information provided was more than I expected, and the numbers a bit better. And on the subject of numbers, Crunchbase has recorded 215 exits for 500 Startups. From its accelerator, 500 cites TalkDesk and Shippo as highlights.
Turning to mechanics, 500 Startups invests $150,000 apiece into its accelerator companies for 6% of their equity, and charges a $37,500 for the program itself. So, in effect, it’s a bit less capital for the same ownership percentage.
What else? Just that we’re walking into demo day season. 500 Startups will host the showcase for its 26th batch on March 19. Y Combinator will hold its own on March 23 and 24. The Techstars website defeated my hunt for its next demo day, but in the name of fairness, it’s probably hosting one around the same time somewhere in the world.
Here’s the list of companies in batch 26, with small notes from 500 on what they do:

Living in the unicorn era as we have now for some time, it’s easy to lose track of the earliest-stages of startup investment. But accelerators do have a history of helping birth some impressive companies. So it’s worth paying attention. More when we get to the various demo days.

Chapter I: The New Beginning
Part 1
Looking at the setting sun and growing twilight from the height of the imperial palace, a Samurai garbed in white stood there in peace with a kind yet somber smile. The complicated expression was expected of course. Months ago, the Samurai, known as Jack by many in another time, experienced so many things. To travel to a distant future, journey to places of imagination, meet extraordinary people, and combat threats beyond what his training prepared him for. For 50 years he had gone through this, unable to age or succeed, and despair pushed further to death. His memories take a lighter turn, as it was ironically an assailant from his sworn enemy that had saved his life and soul, and reignited the will to face his sworn enemy, Aku. Though the encounter seemed to turn hopeless when his loved comrade was in fact Aku’s daughter, they overcame it, and through the demon’s own power, returned to the past to slay both him and his distraught future. Everything seemed right, but at the height of the planned wedding, the Samurai had lost her to time itself, her being connected to Aku’s existence in future. He could only mourn her with her name then, “Ashi” cried the Samurai solemly, as he crumbled at their wedding. At a forest he had visited in the future though, he came to find hope in the despair, a ladybug reminding him of his cherished time and the blooming trees telling him what both of them fought and sacrificed for, a future free from Aku’s grip and allowed happiness. This had eased the Samurai’s pain in time, though his soul still cringed in pain from time to time. It seems whether here or in Aku’s future, he was always bound by his past. The peace was welcoming though, and Jack, his family and people prospered. His father had walked towards him then. “This is truly a welcome experience, to be free from the fear of evil, is it not son?” said the Emperor. “Yes, it does me great good, I had not felt this way since childhood.” remembered Jack. The Emperor nodded, but then his expression turned grim then. “ I had told you then to always be cautious, as evil could be lurking behind you, yes? It is good to take in the peace, but do not lessen your guard my son. Even without Aku, or without evil itself, there may always be forces threatening what you believe in. You must be prepared to stand your ground, else you lose everything.” The Emperor stated. Jack appeared puzzled, questioning, “Without Aku or evil, what do you mean father?”. The Emperor sighed. “ Perhaps I am overcautious from experience, but your fights will not always be simply be righteous, or against evil. Time and time again, people have fought over their beliefs, spilling blood for what they hold is right. You must be open minded to their thoughts while affirming and acknowledging your own, else you risk either succumbing to arrogance or being cut down through complacency. It may be hard to understand now, but I tell you this so can make such hard decisions for what you believe in” the Emperor explained as he walked away. Jack was puzzled by his father’s warning. He had made hard decisions, such as sacrificing time portals to help others or confronting the Daughters of Aku in lethal combat to defend his own life. But why would he ever falter in his own beliefs for that of an enemy? He supposed that it must be his time fighting those blatantly wrong like Aku, but the Samurai was getting the impression maybe he did not understand what it meant about hard decisions in a fight. Hopefully, that bridge wouldn’t need to be crossed thought Jack as he walked back inside, not noticing in the night sky a tear and void of black and white rings.
Part 2:
A large and imposing warship emerged from the void in time, and from it to smaller docked vehicles left in two differing directions. The first was on destination to the palace, the other towards a wasteland in the distance. The first vessel landed near the Palace and the occupants emerged. Several dozen troops emerged, all armored in imposing grey with black aesthetic metal, their faces covered by helmets that gave off glow from the eye protection, all armed with firearms not of this time. But they were not the most imposing of them. Leading them was a man with powerful aura about him deserving of command. Though he appeared in his mid 20s, the look he gave suggested significant experience and deserved confidence. Like the troops he was armored in grey, bearing a symbol of a black figurine encompassed by a gray shield on the right end of his chest guard, the same on his soldiers and vehicles. His armor otherwise seemed distinct, clearly protective yet not overweight, allowing flexibility, yet distinguished enough to set him apart, and geometric lining patterns seen across his armor. Should people of this era see it, they would think it forged by the gods. On his back lay a sword he had now drawn, single edged and glowing with geometric patterns and emitting a white energy. To his side was a firearm which, while smaller, was of more advanced make than his troops. His face was somewhat simple yet stern and strong, not unhandsome and bearing both youth and experience aforementioned. Despite this apparent youth, his hair was a contradiction, bearing a contrast of grey and brown colors, falling to his neck in parted strands but not enough to obstruct combat. The leader held within his hand was a key, yet not ordinary, as it bore a numeral II and glowed. When holding it in front of himself, it glowed brightest in front of the structure. The man seemed to gain an understanding from this interaction, and signaled “Let us move”. “Yes, Lord Protector!”, sounded off his men as they bust through the gates. The palace guards responded quickly as they sounded the alarms. Both warriors in samurai armor and archers from higher ground attacked the intruders, fighting with grace, and yet, it amounted to only loss. Neither blade nor arrow harmed the soldiers, only denting their armor even with the most grievous of blows. The counterattack from the invading force was devastating, s the palace guard fell in bloodied mass before the barrage of fare from their weapons, their expressions aghast with horror from such power only described as sorcery from their perspective. The man known only as Lord Protector only strode forth through into the palace, paying no mind to what happened. He took a few of his men with him as he descended towards the lower levels by using his firearm to blast into the floor, as that is where the key directed, and left the rest to hold off any nuisances.
…
“What, they have broken through and are entering the lower levels?!”, stated the Emperor. “Yes, my emperor, and our forces appear to be held by the enemy” stated the scout. The Emperor’s eyes narrowed as grim and stern as when Aku first returned. I f they were heading to the sealed area beneath the palace, to the vaulted place of the relic guarded by his ancestors for so long, the enemy could only be after that power. The warnings and descriptions of their fearsome power did not deter the Emperor, or even his age having dulled his combat experience. Preparing his blade, he turned to a hidden passage to confront the enemy, giving his wife the Empress a tender look before returning to his determined persona. He would guard the relic and its power, even at the cost of his life.
…
Jack had heard the sounds of crashing, crying, and most disturbingly, gunfire. He didn’t bother to think of it though, as he ran down to main area of the palace with only his usual white gi and trusted magic sword. What he found was devastating. The palace entrance room appeared smashed and burnt in many places, the recently restored artwork of his family once again brought to ruin. Painting the devastation, was the blood and carcasses of so many palace guards. At the center of the devastation was most surprising, with gray and black armored soldiers with firearms finishing off the remnants. Jack only pondered for a second about such inconsistencies from the future being here, as he was quick to realize they were the ones slaughtering the brave guards. As Jack charged, the soldiers took notice and fired. Jack’s adventures in the future left him prepared though, as he ran towards them dodging most of the gunfire and deflecting what he couldn’t with his sword. The guards were stunned, as they never expected this from any local warrior. The stunned moment was fatal, as Jack charged in and cut three soldiers down in seconds, the sound flesh, blood and circuitry mixed as their remains feel. The other soldiers recovered, as they surrounded Jack to fire at the spot he was at. They didn’t count on his jumping skills though, as he leaped from the spot at the last minute and landed behind two most soldiers to cut him down. “ If that’s the way it’s going to be, fine!” said a guard’s mechanized voice as he pulled a blade from a holster at his side alongside another, while the other three prepared to give fire support. It would have been a decent tactic to a novice, but Jack turned it around. He closed in with one of the bladed soldiers with his, only taking two strikes to cut both the blade and the soldier down. The second one fared even worse, as Jack blocked the blade with the sword, then freed one of hands to disarm his opponent, grabbed him in his disorientation, and his armored body as a shield for the gunfire, lucky for Jack, but not the other soldiers. The gunmen would pay for that mistake, as Jack hurled the body to distract them, giving him the moment he needed to close in and slice them in their desperation to survive. Jack, in his usual post battle posture, stood a moment tensed up before straightening up, taking care of the blood on his word before sheathing it. Yes, blood, Jack realized, still grim from the thought of having to take lives. But when he looked at the bodies of his enemies, the blood was the only assurance they were human. Their armor was thick and mechanical, only penetrable by his sacred steel, years of training, and skilled techniques. It was what was beneath the armor that was most unnerving, as ghastly wounds had shown circuitry interwoven into flesh, questioning how human they were. This brought the contradictions back to Jack’s mind. “These soldiers, their weapons and armor, even this technology seared into their flesh, I have seen things like this before, in Aku’s future. But Aku is no more, his future is gone with him. Even with that, I never encountered soldiers like this then. Who are these brutal people, what do they want with this time?” Jack thought. His thoughts were taken by the sounds of clashing steel towards a blasted hole in the ground. Jack knew not of this area, but it was clear the enemy lingered, and he would need to confront them for answers, as he descended below to the battle.
Part 3
While the battle at the palace occurred, a second team flew over a barren wasteland, devoid of life and hope even with the blossoming nature not far away. The extraction team flew to the center of it all, a crater with only a few shattered stones here and there. The lead of the team was only informed enough to know what to find, and but that in itself was iffy. Part of it came from reading they had received from this same place of a power source long since dead and decaded for them, but here enough may still be alive to thrive. The other part came from legends the Lord Protector cared not for. The legends stated of a living evil with great power that ruled mercillesly, and though the soldiers didn’t much believe it, this land was still scarred by his dominion, feeling the ominous nature of it all. Still, they had a job to do, and the Lord Protector was keen on results when he was done on his end. After scanning the area, the extraction team set to work, quickly excavating the area while the soldiers guarded the area for trouble. Soon, they found what they sought for. Even though the Lord Protector looked into it himself, it was amazing his assertions were true. The excavation team preserved their find, a small black stone spiked in several directions. The substance found was all that survived from whatever happened here, and even in this time, an analysis would show it was dying and decaying. With their resources though, that was no issue. The team packed up into the transport, informing the Lord Protector and following instructions to return to the time portal and back to origin. They did so, not knowing the evil they had dredged up from the dead earth.
…
Jack was stunned to see his aged father confronting an unmasked man in armor akin to that of the soldiers, figuring he was the leader. The emperor was making up for lack of strength and agility with tactics and experience, but that was only getting him so far, as he suffered several flesh wounds already, and his age only increased their toll. The Lord Protector fared much better, and the exchange of blades saw his blade overpowering the Emperor. “You fight well, elder, most random warriors do not last to this point. Bur we both know the outcome so relinquish the Key of Time” pronounced the Lord Protector. “I refuse. Your power alone does not give you right to power beyond mortal understanding. I can see it already destroying you, so cease before suffer the greatest loss.” “What do you know of loss?!” screamed the Lord Protector, bringing down his blade and slashing through the Emperor’s blade flesh. “FATHER!” cried Jack, carrying his blade in fury to the Lord Protector. The Lord Protector narrowed his eyes and met Jack’s blade with his own, the fury of blades illuminating the secret chamber below the palace, the sparks of each clash paling to the fury in Jack’s eyes. In spite of that, the Lord Protector only indicated this was a mild challenge by his expression. Jack kept attempting for the opponent’s apparent openings, but these were all feints, as the Lord Protector blocked each one with anticipation and responded with blows that pushed the Samurai back. The Samurai had enough, and decided to use the trusted Horse Cutting Technique that felled many adversaries. The Lord Protector braced and took the blow with his sword, and both remained unharmed by Jack’s attack. Jack was stunned, as only a certain Scotsman took that blow before with no damage. Now it was the Lord Protector’s turn. Jack was suddenly on both defensive and evasive, as he blocked what he could and evaded what he couldn’t. But each block saw him pushed back, and several evaded attacks still saw him with cuts. Jack tried one last desperate attempt as on one of their clashes, he diverted the opponent’s blade and tried to use the opening to land a punch, hoping to use that for an opening with his blade. But instead, his opponent caught his and threw him back down on the ground, with Jack holding his sword in defense only for it be knocked back by the enemy. The Lord Protector seemed to have pity though, as he went in with a fist instead of his blade, taking the wind straight out of the Samurai’s lungs and leaving him there barely awake and breathing, but unable to move for the time being. The Lord Protector walked over to a pedestal that had a key similar to his own, only with a numeral I on it. In came the Empress from the secret passageway, gasping and rushing to her fallen husband. He was still breathing, but even with treatment, his survival was uncertain. The Lord Protector then seemed distracted. “You have retrieved the second objective then? Yes, the artifact is mine. Proceed through the rift above, I will return on my own. Take note that the listed units that accompanied me won’t be returning.” Talking as though he spoke to a ghost. He then held the key as it glowed, and to Jack’s amazement, a black white time portal, like so many he had seen, emerged. The Lord Protector gave only a stern glance to the recovering Samurai and said “ Do not be a fool like that man. To oppose myself, Magnus, is a sheer act of stupidity.”. “Wait, Magnus, that’s who he is, but why..?” the Samurai thought as Magnus walked through the portal. Jack got to his feet and saw to his father, and by now people from the palace had come to see the state of the Emperor and aid him. “Father, are you”, said Jack, “Do not concern your…” coughed the Emperor incompletely with blood. The Empress had tears down her eyes, as the attendants began to see to his wounds with grim eyes. “Wait, my son, you must know, the key taken, for many generations our family has guarded it, not knowing it’s exact nature except it’s connection to time. If misused it could be...” the Emperor coughed again with more blood. “ Please do not overexert yourself!” cried the Emperess. Jack ha a solemn expression contemplating his thoughts. He then made a decision. Gathering his sword, he walked over to the now unstable time portal. “Son, no! You’ve already suffered a perilous journey through time. There’s no knowing if you will come back this time!” cried the Empress. Jack walked over to both of them with a sad expression, and hugged his parents gently, careful of his father’s injuries. His face and actions conveyed it all. He needed to go, must go. Whatever Magnus intends, he must be stopped and made to answer for what he did. He knew it could be another long journey, but he would return with all his power one day. As Jack got up and left for the portal, his father said one last thing. “My son, take what I said earlier to heart, I know not what you face, but I suspect new hardships await you before you may persevere. I wish you would not see need for this, but I know you will persevere if stand by your beliefs. Whatever you decide, now or then, I stand by you, my son.” Said the Emperor weekly. The Samurai gave a slight smile as a last farewell as walked into the portal as it faded.
Note: Hello, this is Psychicdan. So after that, uh, controversial ending, I had mixed thoughts. I respect Genndy, even if I wanted things to go down differently, so that’s part of why the bittersweet ending is here. It will also be used here into story building up as you probably picked up. Another reason for this fanfic sequel is that I just felt I didn’t get enough Samurai Jack, and wanted more things like development over Season 5. Seeing others write their own stories out there inspired me to do the same. For those of you wondering about Ashi, yes she will be here(SPOILERS) involving differing memories and butterfly effect. By development, I mean both Jack and Ashi’s romance and Jack’s progression to stronger and more human character than what he returned to in the later part of Season 5. Jack is not fighting simple evil anymore, and that’s part of why Magnus is here. Come back next time to see Jack and Ashi’s reunion as Jack confronts the Magnus Protectorate. Also, if anyone wants to art of this you’re more than welcome, just be sure to give credit to both Genndy for the original Samurai Jack and myself for the fan work.

Cat Force v0.42.2 MOD APK (Unlimited Energy/Money)
Cat Force v0.42.2 MOD APK (Unlimited Energy/Money) Casual games often have many simple elements in their gameplay but easily attract many players and bring them the most impressive content. Many games also take advantage of the basic elements to become more creative and introduce people to new things. The match-3 genre is the most potential and can be exploited endlessly, and this article will introduce Cat Force, a fighting game that uses puzzle elements to entertain everyone. The match-3 genre has become popular and is widely used in most games today; they are not saturated but are also warmly welcomed by the players’ community.
FUN AND EXCITING GAMEPLAY FOR CAT LOVERS
Cat Force’s most friendly and funny element is that it will use adorable cats as warriors and even give players many different variations to promote their efficiency on the battlefield. If the player wants to expand the strength and improve the cats’ fighting ability, then the campaign system will be the perfect opportunity. The player’s battle will spread across many different lands, and each place has its characteristics for players to explore. The game will introduce additional activities such as mini-games and events with many attractive rewards and those factors. Furthermore, the game will introduce a fun and friendly PvP mode, where people entertain each other about match-3 puzzle abilities.
SIMPLE BUT INTRIGUING PUZZLE MECHANISM
The game’s main content always revolves around match-3 puzzles, a familiar style but completely improved in this game. Players will now use all their moves to attack enemies, and each cat’s color represents a corresponding attack type. Thus, the player becomes more creative and flexible in building tactics and many other factors to win. Furthermore, if the player participates in PvP mode, the puzzle mechanism will switch to a turn-based form, where each player reaches the maximum score to end the match. The match-3 puzzle element will always refer to special blocks that can only be made up of many cats in the level, and their effects are varied for the player to handle perfectly.
VARIOUS STRATEGY TO EXPLORE
The role-playing fighting genre uses match-3 puzzles as the main content, often focuses more on tactics than anything else. The enemy’s army will always transform to make it difficult for the player, and the only way to defeat them is to use their special attacks and oppose their elemental elements. Moreover, the game will introduce a range of equipment or support items, with great uses for players to explore and effectively use at each level. The game will also always provide useful tips and tactics for each special cat, helping players destroy the enemy’s squad to achieve the highest score possible.
AMUSING AND ENJOYABLE EXTRA GAME MODES
Cat Force recognizes the endless growth potential of the match-3 puzzle genre that can bring players countless experiences and most impressive entertainment. The game will feature many different game modes, including special activities and exciting events for players to enjoy. Events are an opportunity for players to collect rare rewards or cute and funny heroes with special skills. The players can explore events and match-3 puzzles endlessly, and players can enjoy doing whatever they want for fun.
INTUITIVE PVP MATCH WITH ADVANCED GAMEPLAY
The combat mechanics in PvP is different from the game’s main campaigns, where turn-based is applied. The game will automatically activate hidden functions when the player successfully matches the cats. While turn-based may not be attractive, each player has a limited time in each turn, and the main task is to reach the required score before the opponent. Everyway to achieve victory is possible, as its core is a match-3 puzzle and requires the player to be highly capable in all situations. PvP battles are generous, and players can even get rare items for upgrading cute and humorous cat heroes.
COLLECT VARIOUS HEROES AND UPGRADE IT
The heroes in this game still use cute cats but possess many superior characteristics and stats than the other units and show the elements special to attract players. However, when players participate in battles, they can only use a single hero, thereby upgrading and changing equipment to achieve a higher combat force. The game always introduces fascinating and novel elements, a perfect combination between RPG and puzzles for players to explore all the endless potentials in the journey. Cat Force is developed to entertain players with friends through a novel and entertaining match-3 mechanism and introduce new concepts that players have never experienced before. Moreover, the game continuously organizes online events and activities with generous rewards, giving players many options to explore the game and enjoy RPG and match-3 puzzles’ quintessence. Samurai Jack: Renegade Samurai Rating T to M, depending how graphic you see this. Warning: The following is a work of fanfiction and is not intentionally connected to real word places, events, or people, nor intended to copy others’ work. Samurai Jack is the work of Genndy Tartakovsky, his team and affiliated studios and companies. Tis is soly fanfiction for fun and not profit. Chapter I: The New Beginning Part 1 Looking at the setting sun and growing twilight from the height of the imperial palace, a Samurai garbed in white stood there in peace with a kind yet somber smile. Part 2: A large and imposing warship emerged from the void in time, and from it to smaller docked vehicles left in two differing directions. “Yes, Lord Protector!”, sounded off his men as they burst through the gates. The counterattack from the invading force was devastating, as the palace guard fell in bloodied mass before the barrage of fire from their weapons, their expressions aghast with horror from such power only described as sorcery from their perspective. The man known only as Lord Protector only strode forth through into the palace, paying no mind to what happened. He took a few of his men with him as he descended towards the lower levels by using his firearm to blast into the floor, as that is where the key directed, and left the rest to hold off any nuisances. … “What, they have broken through and are entering the lower levels?!”, stated the Emperor. “Yes, my emperor, and our forces appear to be held by the enemy” stated the scout. The Emperor’s eyes narrowed as grim and stern as when Aku first returned. If they were heading to the sealed area beneath the palace, to the vaulted place of the relic guarded by his ancestors for so long, the enemy could only be after that power. … Jack had heard the sounds of crashing, crying, and most disturbingly, gunfire. Part 3 While the battle at the palace occurred, a second team flew over a barren wasteland, devoid of life and hope even with the blossoming nature not far away. … Jack was stunned to see his aged father confronting an unmasked man in armor akin to that of the soldiers, figuring he was the leader. He then held the key as it glowed, and to Jack’s amazement, a black white time portal, like so many he had seen before, emerged. Jack had a solemn expression contemplating his thoughts. I wish you would not see need for this, but I know you will persevere if you stand by your beliefs. Whatever you decide, now or then, I stand by you, my son.” Said the Emperor weekly. The Samurai gave a slight smile as a last farewell as he walked into the portal as it faded.

Part 2: A large and imposing warship emerged from the void in time, and from it to smaller docked vehicles left in two differing directions. “Yes, Lord Protector!”, sounded off his men as they burst through the gates. … Jack had heard the sounds of crashing, crying, and most disturbingly, gunfire. Part 3 While the battle at the palace occurred, a second team flew over a barren wasteland, devoid of life and hope even with the blossoming nature not far away. … Jack was stunned to see his aged father confronting an unmasked man in armor akin to that of the soldiers, figuring he was the leader. He then held the key as it glowed, and to Jack’s amazement, a black white time portal, like so many he had seen before, emerged. Jack had a solemn expression contemplating his thoughts. I wish you would not see need for this, but I know you will persevere if you stand by your beliefs. Whatever you decide, now or then, I stand by you, my son.” Said the Emperor weekly. The Samurai gave a slight smile as a last farewell as he walked into the portal as it faded.
