It was Halloween.

Not your favorite time of year, especially being the babysitter for a certain mayor's son. Most kids were out trick-or-treating, having fun with their family, and generally doing normal, fun, safe things.

Not Henry, of course.

Henry, at the ripe old age of 4, decided that he must, absolutely must go look through the woods for ghosts. Not even to hunt them like a normal little boy, mind you. Just to… find them, you assumed.

“Hallows Eve is when they're most active!” he chittered excitedly, sounding more intellectual than most children, even people your age. Really, you would have just stayed at the Mills’ residence, their giant, cushy home, watching scary movies and eating candy ‘till your teeth rotted.

But he just had to go see the ghouls. Well, his mother said to do whatever he wanted, within reason. And you just couldn't say no to those big, dark brown eyes, could you?

As your plastic lanterns seemed to flicker and the noises of the forest sounded haunting, you started wondering if maybe you should have said no.

Another twig snapped beneath your foot, leaves crunching under your weight as you stepped over yet another root, minding not to trip over one again.

“… You sure this is a good place, Henry? It's a bit…” you paused, unsure of how to put “fucking spooky” nicer than that.

“… off-putting…”

The little boy giggled, turning back to you in his oversized coat. “Well, yeah. The spookier, the better!”

You internally groaned, managing only a tight-lipped smile at the boy. Once he turned back around, however, you visibly deflated and let your head hang for a moment before continuing after him.

Maybe you should have been the one in front, protecting him from whatever grotesqueries would be about this chilling night. But to be honest, you didn't have a clue what to do, and he seemed pretty knowledgeable about all things Halloween.

“You know how Halloween used to be All Hallows Eve?” He chimed, slowing his pace to walk a little more beside you. You nodded, giving him a hum of confirmation. ‘I mean, it's the only thing you'll call it, so I'd hope so,’ I thought.

“Well,” he continued, “Hallows Eve being on the last day of October would imply that November is All Hallows!” He was pretty proud of the fact, from his tone to the little pep in his step. Nodding thoughtfully, you took a second to try and remember a fact you learned in the second grade, years and years before the stress of being a young adult.

“Huh,” you hummed in thought. Henry couldn't help but be a little curious. “Huh? Huh what?” he questioned. “Oh, I was just thinking.”

Years back, you remember somebody telling you, maybe not a teacher but a mentor nonetheless, about All Hallows Eve. About the day after, and how important it was.

But the foggy memory could barely bring up an answer, so you just gave him what you had.

“I believe it's supposed to be November first that's important. Something called All Saint's day, or All Hallows day,” you explained, although a little unsure if you were right. “It's a day to commemorate all the Saint's of the Catholic and similar religions.”

A normal kid probably would've thrown a fit, or gotten quiet at the subtle hint that their deductive reasoning was wrong. Good thing Henry wasn't normal. The new information made his eyes light up with some kind of joy, as if learning and stories were the best thing in the world.

“What's Hallow’s Eve for then? Do they celebrate for two days?” He likely would've been brewing with questions if it wasn't so late, seeing as the both of you were getting the slightest hint of drowsiness. Make no mistake, the second he showed sign of wanting to go home, you'd be throwing him over your shoulder and running.

But your memories seemed to only disappear the harder you tried to think about them, something holy and something lost. So you used whatever you had left and some estimation to get an alright answer.

“Might have been to clear out any bad spirits for the spirits of the Saints to come,” you shrugged, switching the plastic lanterns to your other hand and letting the tired arm rest. “Wouldn't know, though. They might have something about it at the library, but I don't think they'll be letting anyone in anytime soon.”

Being reminded that a vast treasure trove of stories and learning was trapped behind boarded windows and a city mandate, the sparkle in his eyes seemed to fizzle a bit. You never liked seeing him down, so you nudged his shoulder gently as you two came to a stop.

“Hey, it's alright. We can always write our own stories,” you winked. This made him beam, and that sparkle glittered once more. Feeling accomplished, you looked around at the thickly wooded area, fog shrouding your sight, and sighed. But before you could say anything about heading home, Henry let out a deep, sleepy yawn.

“Looks like someone's getting tired, huh?” You cooed at the puppy-like boy, seeing his cute little scrunched up face as you remark.

“Am not! I'm wide awake!” he stomped his little foot, not wanting to stop the search for ghosties. You, however, very much so wanted to get out of the chilly, foggy, spooky ass woods and watch over a cute little kid from the safety and comfort of a mansion.

“C'mon, Henry, it's getting late, and you're getting sleepy anyways,” you stepped closer to the boy, handing him your lantern. “Here, hold this for me.” He took it, albeit a little confused.

“Why do you want me to hold- wAH,” he yelped as you scooped him up and threw him over your shoulder, heading straight back for wherever it was you came from. “Nooo!” he whined, kicking his little legs. You could just tell he was pouting, probably making the saddest, biggest puppy eyes you'd ever see. Good thing he was on your shoulder.

“Yeesss,” you chuckled back, knowing better than to give in to his adorable pleadings. “Your mother’ll kill me if I don't bring you home now. Besides,” you grinned, having a trick up my sleeve, “I’ll make you some… pasta?”

His whining and pouting almost instantly dropped, and he was smiley again as he flipped back, knowing you'd catch him and let him lay across your arms. “Okay!” he chirped, getting the better end of this deal. The fog was dense and humid, but soft enough and easy to navigate through, so you were out on the street in no time.

As you were walking back to the mansion in the center of the city, the sleepy boy in your arms yawned again, cuddling closer into you as his eyelids slowly started getting heavier.

“Nighty night,” you whispered to him.

“Nighty…” he mumbled back, already fast asleep before the second “night” could leave his lips. The sweet boy looked so peaceful, so adorable in your arms as you made the silent and careful trek to his home. Hey, maybe it wasn't such a bad Halloween after all.

Sorry for not posting for a while, life has been beating me up for months. Might have endometriosis, might not. I do, however, have unexplained constant limb pain. The curse of the fanfic writer is true, won't stop me tho ;P

Sooo sad lesbian backstory!

Visp was originally an invader. She was quite good at being one, actually - did her job always just right. She also had an... Acquaintance. Well that's what she called her, at least, since "friend" is never the right word for an irken, of course. Just a fellow irken, a scientist - one of the greatest minds, only the best for Visp. Her name was Mef, and they were quite familiar with each other. They'd talk a lot, have lunch together, spent every break in each other's company. Mef was always quite prone to accidents - and Visp was happy to get her out of any situation, no matter how vile. Not because they were friends, of course not. It simply gave Visp another opportunity to shine - this time for an audience of one. Visp was found of her, though she would never admit it. She would never admit how desperately she wanted to keep this dummy safe. She would never admit how she was always so scared, and certainly she'd never tell anyone who she was scared for. Especially lately, when Mef started acting weird. She was often sleepy, meek, kinda sickly-looking. Visp told her to have a health check-up - what else could she do about it? Mef ignored. Mef told her she was fine. Mef distracted her, and Visp believed it - so foolishly believed that damn girl. Because why wouldn't she? Mef was always so honest, so naive. Too naive for an irken, what could she possibly do?

Well... A lot, as it turns out. Mef, sweet and proper Mef, kidnapped a drone - made one for his defective qualities - and got into the poor guys PAK to try and fix him. Highly illegal, the Empire wouldn't be happy with her if someone found out... And someone did. Visp did, actually. Spotted her red-handed with an open PAK and a scared defective right in front of her.

Visp... Panicked. She'd helped Mef get away with a lot of things, sure, but she's never tested her loyalty to the Empire to that extent. Her immediate reaction was anger on the outside, she was quick to arrest her, to give her away - she was a good invaded after all, good irken, loyal and proper as she was. Sure, she might've broken a few rules herself but this was too much, and Mef deserved it for being stupid! She needed to be put back in her place. Nothing too bad would happen to her, right?

Except the worst things would happen. Mef went too far and thus was supposed to be deactivated... Oh, but Visp couldn't possibly lose her "acquaintance" like that. Never! No, she was smart enough to make it work. And she did. It was hard, lying about that would be stupid, but she tried and tried in the little time she had left - and eventually, after pressuring literally everyone she possibly could, even managed to get on a call with then-Tallest Miyuki. She had things to say. Primarily that Mef was too good of a scientist to just go down like that, too useful to the Empire, you see! And not defective at all, that must've been a mistake, just a busy day is all. Of course, no one believed her that easily, but they managed to come to an agreement. Mef would be spared, but had to spend several months working as a cleaning drone to prove that she was, in fact, loyal. If she didn't, she'd go down immediately, no trial. And Visp would have to be deactivated with her - since what use is she, after lying so blatantly in the Tallest's face? Visp was fine with that. Surely, Mef would manage. Yes, she wasn't supposed to tell her that her time as a cleaning drone would be merely a probation - but Mef was smart! Surely she would trust Visp. Surely she would know Visp wouldn't be acknowledging her if she was just a pathetic cleaning drone forever. She'd get a hint. She'd behave. No slip-ups, no, she'd manage just fine...

Except she didn't. Mef, the indignant little shit, decided it would be a good idea to run away. Which was, obviously, a MAJOR slip-up on her side and now Visp's life was in danger - luckily, she managed to escape right before getting captured. She wasn't really sure what to do at this point. Being on the run wasn't something she had planned, not ever in her life... What certainly didn't help was getting caught by the Resisty members. What helped even less was getting thrown in a fight-pit against other escaped irkens. Nor did the fighting, the thoughts of Mef, the fear, the longing... The lingering guilt she would never call guilt because she wasn't supposed to. She did everything right. It was Mef who fucked up. Still, it was misery. She'd fight to survive - there was really nothing more she could do with disabled PAK weapons (she'd never forgive the bastards that dared to open her PAK... Did that defective Mef kidnapped feel the same? Doesn't matter) so she did what she could. Little did she know that winning wasn't the path to freedom in her case. Survival, maybe. But survival in this type of establishment only lead to one person.

And that person was Nova.

Oh but are you ready for chapter 7, When farmer Anthony is going to walk into his bedroom one afternoon, with his braces hanging around his waist and his shirt untucked looking for a fresh one only to happen upon his lady wife, naked as the day she was born, bathing in the copper tub in the corner of the room.

Kate looks up in surprise when the door opens and both of them are too shocked to do anything at first, both of them staring wide eyed. Anthony's jaw falls open, his breath catching in his chest as he stares at her, his entire body on fire as he looks at her. Her chest is obscured by the water for the most part, though he can see the swell of her breasts before they disappear, her hair piled on her head to keep it dry, so much skin, stretching on for him to stare at. So much skin that he could touch and kiss feel against his own, if only she wanted him.

"Sorry, do you need me downstairs?"

Her voice shakes him from his stupor, his cheeks burning as he spins away from her, cursing the obvious arousal she must have seen, the front of his breeches unbearably tight.

"No, I'm- I'm sorry, Miss I- I only came to change my shirt."

He can hear the water swishing, standing, Anthony realises getting out of the bath. Naked behind him.

"You always call me Miss when you're uncomfortable, do you know that?"

"I'm not- I never meant to stare, I hope-"

"It's not a crime to look, Anthony. I'm your wife, what's a bit of flesh between husband and wife?"

And he can't breathe. "I apologise all the same. It wasn't very... You are... very beautiful, so beautiful I- but I shouldn't have looked. My apologies again."

And before he leaves he could have sworn he heard Kate sigh. "Or perhaps you should have looked longer."

And that night, when Kate goes to bed, something shifts, because if Kate is certain of anything at all: It's that Anthony is attracted to her, at the very least.

No scream to be heard.. No whimpers to be heard.. It was safe.. Most definitely!

‘I’m next..’ Jungkook slowly disappears into the maze as well.

‘Holy shit, where am I?’ Hoseok’s already lost..

If there was one thing Wesley had not done for years, since he had adapted so well to farm life, it was visit the city. Today, that was all going to change. Taking a bus to the inner city to meet with Rue, Wesley was feeling a little bit nervous about all of this. It had been quite a while since he had set foot into the city, but as soon as that bus pulled to a stop, he was about to begin again.

Wesley took a moment before stepping out onto the sidewalk. He watched the bus drive away before taking a look around at his surroundings. He wasn’t in a small town anymore, he was officially in the city now. From here, he checked the sticky note he had written himself to try and find where he needed to go to meet Rue.
