Sooo sad lesbian backstory!

Visp was originally an invader. She was quite good at being one, actually - did her job always just right. She also had an... Acquaintance. Well that's what she called her, at least, since "friend" is never the right word for an irken, of course. Just a fellow irken, a scientist - one of the greatest minds, only the best for Visp. Her name was Mef, and they were quite familiar with each other. They'd talk a lot, have lunch together, spent every break in each other's company. Mef was always quite prone to accidents - and Visp was happy to get her out of any situation, no matter how vile. Not because they were friends, of course not. It simply gave Visp another opportunity to shine - this time for an audience of one. Visp was found of her, though she would never admit it. She would never admit how desperately she wanted to keep this dummy safe. She would never admit how she was always so scared, and certainly she'd never tell anyone who she was scared for. Especially lately, when Mef started acting weird. She was often sleepy, meek, kinda sickly-looking. Visp told her to have a health check-up - what else could she do about it? Mef ignored. Mef told her she was fine. Mef distracted her, and Visp believed it - so foolishly believed that damn girl. Because why wouldn't she? Mef was always so honest, so naive. Too naive for an irken, what could she possibly do?

Well... A lot, as it turns out. Mef, sweet and proper Mef, kidnapped a drone - made one for his defective qualities - and got into the poor guys PAK to try and fix him. Highly illegal, the Empire wouldn't be happy with her if someone found out... And someone did. Visp did, actually. Spotted her red-handed with an open PAK and a scared defective right in front of her.

Visp... Panicked. She'd helped Mef get away with a lot of things, sure, but she's never tested her loyalty to the Empire to that extent. Her immediate reaction was anger on the outside, she was quick to arrest her, to give her away - she was a good invaded after all, good irken, loyal and proper as she was. Sure, she might've broken a few rules herself but this was too much, and Mef deserved it for being stupid! She needed to be put back in her place. Nothing too bad would happen to her, right?

Except the worst things would happen. Mef went too far and thus was supposed to be deactivated... Oh, but Visp couldn't possibly lose her "acquaintance" like that. Never! No, she was smart enough to make it work. And she did. It was hard, lying about that would be stupid, but she tried and tried in the little time she had left - and eventually, after pressuring literally everyone she possibly could, even managed to get on a call with then-Tallest Miyuki. She had things to say. Primarily that Mef was too good of a scientist to just go down like that, too useful to the Empire, you see! And not defective at all, that must've been a mistake, just a busy day is all. Of course, no one believed her that easily, but they managed to come to an agreement. Mef would be spared, but had to spend several months working as a cleaning drone to prove that she was, in fact, loyal. If she didn't, she'd go down immediately, no trial. And Visp would have to be deactivated with her - since what use is she, after lying so blatantly in the Tallest's face? Visp was fine with that. Surely, Mef would manage. Yes, she wasn't supposed to tell her that her time as a cleaning drone would be merely a probation - but Mef was smart! Surely she would trust Visp. Surely she would know Visp wouldn't be acknowledging her if she was just a pathetic cleaning drone forever. She'd get a hint. She'd behave. No slip-ups, no, she'd manage just fine...

Except she didn't. Mef, the indignant little shit, decided it would be a good idea to run away. Which was, obviously, a MAJOR slip-up on her side and now Visp's life was in danger - luckily, she managed to escape right before getting captured. She wasn't really sure what to do at this point. Being on the run wasn't something she had planned, not ever in her life... What certainly didn't help was getting caught by the Resisty members. What helped even less was getting thrown in a fight-pit against other escaped irkens. Nor did the fighting, the thoughts of Mef, the fear, the longing... The lingering guilt she would never call guilt because she wasn't supposed to. She did everything right. It was Mef who fucked up. Still, it was misery. She'd fight to survive - there was really nothing more she could do with disabled PAK weapons (she'd never forgive the bastards that dared to open her PAK... Did that defective Mef kidnapped feel the same? Doesn't matter) so she did what she could. Little did she know that winning wasn't the path to freedom in her case. Survival, maybe. But survival in this type of establishment only lead to one person.

And that person was Nova.
