you knew you’d find him out there playing because that’s what joel always does when he needs to clear his head. you sidle up to him, a bashful look on your face and the two of you just stare at each other for a long moment, apologies traveling wordlessly between his warm brown eyes and your own.

one of joel’s large, calloused hands reaching out for your own, pulling you closer when you take it. a hint of a smile gracing his lips as you move to curl next to him as he shifts his guitar out of your way.

leaning your head on his shoulder, and turning to bury your face in the warmth of his neck, inhaling the familiar, warm and comforting, piny scent that can only be described as joel.

whispering a gentle ‘i’m sorry’ against the soft skin of his throat and punctuating it with a sweet little kiss, at this point not really sure of what the two of you had even argued about anymore. you just know that you missed him and his warmth, and that you don’t feel at home anywhere but in joel’s arms.

and joel feels exactly the same, strong arms wrapping around your middle as you curl up against him, placing the guitar gently atop your lap so that his fingers can go back to strumming a lazy melody while he holds you, the two of you just relishing in the peaceful quiet of the night and each others warm embrace.

you’re so incredibly real for this thought, my love 🥺 as argumentative and as stubborn as he’s been for the last years, jackson brought out the softer side to him. he cares deeply about the people closest to him, and he hates confrontation and potentially hurting the people he loves. he’ll always slip back into his old ways however and he’ll get heated in the moment, but when it’s over, he’s left with such confusing guilt. he can spiral and think that he’s blown it completely, that he’s lost someone he loves. he plays his guitar to self-soothe and silently wallows in his own pity. but when you come back up to the porch, his heart catches in his throat. he wants to reach out and apologize immediately, but the stubbornness is still in him and he holds back. and because, he just wants to hear you say the inevitable, “i hate you and i am leaving you.” but you don’t and he can finally breathe again. he hears you apologize and he still feels a twang of guilt that he didn’t say it first, but he lets you stay there for a while before he apologizes too. (bonus points for make up sex)

brystals tree has quite a lot of watches but other trees have less, and some trees have none at all. what brystal thinks is the sun and moon are both in the sky (when she asks about them death shrugs and waves it away so we never find out quite what they are), and are very large, and in the sky there are 'hundreds of orbiting planets, thousands of spiralling galaxies, and millions of twinkling stars'. 'brystal could hear the starts as much as she could see them'
