man. not only is that comic some high quality weapons grade angst under a thin veneer of fluff, it really shows how their relationship just wouldn't be able to survive as it is, even if Virgil never told Roman the truth. they're engaged without ever having talked about having kids! that's such a bad idea!!! it's not romantic, it's risky >:0 (... it's pretty adorable though)

YES!!! I’m so happy you liked the comic and I’m so hyped to get to talk about this! They both really really want this, this future together, but because neither of them can be fully honest with eachother things like this are just going to keep piling up in their relationship. They can’t talk to each-other and thus they can’t communicate what they want. Roman is going to keep pushing away what he wants to suit what Virgil wants, and Virgil is going to keep pulling father and farther away due to the guilt of the situation, and this whole problem is only happening because they both care about eachother so much!!

Roman doesn’t feel comfortable pushing Virgil out of his comfort zone, so he completely avoids very important conversations about their relationship because he doesn’t want to push Virgil too far. He’s still very caught up in that romantic fantasy and is just sort of hoping Virgil will come to him on his own time, but in turn he’s refusing to explain what he wants or how Virgil can make him feel most loved!

And Virgil can’t bring any of this stuff up because he KNOWS they aren’t gonna make it to the wedding, and it would be cruel to get his hopes up like that! He doesn’t want to hurt Roman and thus he’s avoiding pretty much any talk of the future, cause he’s hoping it will keep Roman from thinking about it! (Which this scene proves completely wrong)

And the kicker is, if either of them cared just a little bit less about the other’s feelings none of this would be a problem, if Roman was willing to be more assertive, or Virgil was willing to break things off earlier, they would be in a more normal healthy relationship -and yet because they care so much about eachother they are doomed to fail and hurt each-other!!!

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
