Voltron actor AU - part 2

Keith :

Although he grew up with Shiro, he never wanted to act himself. He preferred to stay in the audience or working backstage. That changed when Shiro convinced him to try out, and eventually get, a role on Voltron

Keith actually does have a mullet. Really. It was a dare from middle school that he was too stubborn not to do. He just sort of kept it and now it works

When he auditioned, the entire crew fell in love with Keith on the spot. His awkwardness in social situations made him perfect for the role

The dog Kosmo was a shelter dog that was easy to train. They used the dog to promote the shelter and get donations. He and Keith connected instantly

Literally. They were together all the time

Eventually, the producers actually let Keith adopt him. Though he did keep the name Kosmo

Giving Keith his yellow galra eyes almost blinded him. When production gave him the lenses, they were just purple contacts with a bit of yellow and they would edit in the rest. During the fight, one of the contacts moves up above his eye. The had to break for 2 hours to make sure they got it out and his eye wasn't messed up too badly

Voltron Hospital AU

Okay so like a month ago I came up with a Voltron Surgeon AU and rambled to @damthosefandoms about it all night, but guess what I still want to talk about it so I’m just posting my headcanons here because why not 🤷🏻‍♀️ 

Some background: 

Heavily inspired by Grey’s Anatomy because I love it (at least until around season ten; I don’t watch anything after Derek dies and Christina leaves because I’m bitter) 

The paladins work at Altea Memorial Hospital 

Keith, Lance, Hunk, and Pidge are residents, Shiro and Matt are attendings, Allura is the chief of surgery, and Coran is the best nurse in the known universe 

The color of their scrubs changes depending on their specialty 

(Putting under a read more because this is pretty long) 

Shiro:

- Dr. Takashi Shirogane

- Head of Neuro surgery 

- Black scrubs 

- Lost his arm in a car accident with Keith during his residency that nearly ruined his medical career. His arm was so damaged from the collision that it needed to be amputated, but Matt made him a prototype prosthetic that wound up working 

- Was out for two years while he was learning how to use the prosthetic, but he eventually became able to do surgery again 

- Is continuously trying to come up with a way to surgically cure ptsd and trauma flashbacks for obvious reasons 

- Crushing hard on Allura, the chief of surgery and his work wife 

- That one surgeon everyone is in love with 

- MCDREAMY 

- “It’s a beautiful day to save lives” 😭 (listen if you don’t watch greys anatomy you prob won’t get the reference but it’s just,,, it’s what Derek always said before surgery)

- I can’t believe Shiro is actually Derek Shepherd who knew

- Was the paladins’ attending back when they were interns and trained them all until their residencies, so they’re really close 

- Shiro had always wanted Keith to go into the neuro field like him, whereas Keith wants to follow his own path. This sometimes causes conflict between them 

- Looks after the residents and comforts them whenever they lose a patient or have a bad day

- DOCTOR DAD

Keith:

- Dr. Keith Kogane 

- Trauma surgeon (so he mainly works in the ER and takes on all the emergency stuff and the more gory surgeries like when someone gets an arm chopped off or is hit by a truck) 

- Red scrubs 

- Shiro’s adoptive younger brother 

- He feels like he has to prove himself constantly because people assume he only got the job because he’s the neuro attending’s brother 

- Pidge’s bff 

- Worked on cars to pay his way through med school 

- Originally got into trauma surgery because he was there in the accident when Shiro lost his arm. Keith was fine besides some cuts and scrapes and a broken bone or two, but Shiro’s injuries were far worse. The worst was his arm, which was super messed up by the impact. It took a while for the paramedics to get there, so it was up to Keith to try and save the arm at least until they arrived because he couldn’t be the reason Shiro loses his medical career, but he cracked under the pressure and in the end, even with all his work to stabilize his arm, they still couldn’t save it and that’s why Shiro lost the arm and Keith will always blame himself for that 

- Kolivan is the trauma surgery attending and a major hard ass, and Keith is his protege  

- Was at the top of their class all throughout med school and he’s a natural with a scalpel 

- ✨ Ponytail ✨ can I get a hell yeah for Keith in a ponytail 

- “Patience yields focus” is his mantra for basically everything 

- Dropped out for half a year during their internships because of a patient’s death that hit him hard. He was performing his first solo surgery and everyone came to watch from the gallery because this was his big moment, this was his time to prove himself. It was supposed to be a simple appendectomy, but something went wrong during the operation. He ended up losing the patient despite working in a blind panic for almost twenty minutes doing CPR until Shiro finally managed to get him to stop and understand that the patient was gone, he had to let it go 

- The whole event really rattled him, and after scrubbing out of the OR he straight up left the hospital and no one saw him back there for months 

- He returned eventually due to Shiro’s coaxing, and in three months managed to make his way to the top yet again 

- Loves his trusty scalpel (you know I had to fit a thing about the knife in there) and he has it with him every time he performs a surgery. He says it’s lucky and has never performed a surgery without it since that first one 

- Shares an apartment with his bro Shiro, but rarely ever goes home because the hospital is his life. He spends most nights in the on-call rooms and is always up and ready to go whenever an emergency trauma comes in 

- Actually wanted to be a paramedic for a while, but in the end chose trauma surgery because it’s more competitive and intense  

-He is so bad at bedside manner and interacting with patients in general; he’s totally the Christina Yang of this au (also Alex Karev too because let’s be real HE IS) 

He’s really quiet and with patients he’s always distant—he tells them what they need to know about the surgery and that’s it. He just sticks to the facts and doesn’t make it any more personal than it has to be 

-He’s the guy who intimidates everyone without meaning to, so everyone’s kinda scared of him tbh. 

But overall he’s a great doctor and works well under pressure, which is why he’s so great for the trauma field 

Lance:

- Dr. Lance McClain 

- Lance works primarily in plastics (plastic surgery, skin stuff, transition surgeries, facial injuries, burns, etc) 

- Blue scrubs 

- He first got into the field because years ago he got into an accident and came out of it with burn scars all over his back and shoulders that he prefers to keep hidden. He specializes in burn injuries because of that connection 

- Hunk’s bff/roommate 

- Keith’s rival all during med school and their internship 

- He competes with Keith a lot over surgeries since Keith is trauma and Lance is plastics, so whenever a burn victim or similar case comes in they fight over literally everything  

- Flirts with all the nurses shamelessly 

- Super good when it comes to bedside manner and even better with kids

- Acts suave and cocky, but he really has a great heart and most of his confidence is an act to hide how insecure he is about his skills that he worries aren’t good enough even though he’s the best plastic surgeon in the state 

- During their internship, he and Keith competed for who would get the reward of performing his first solo surgery. Keith won in the end, and Lance resented him for it for a long time 

- Went into plastics because he likes getting to improve lives, being able to fix what other people can’t themselves. He takes pride in the fact that by doing what he loves, he gets to help people at the same time 

- This is a lot of why he clashes with Keith so much. Keith gets too invested in the surgery itself so much that he often forgets about the patient altogether, whereas Lance sees the patient before anything. He makes all his cases personal and tries to get to know his patients as well as possible so he knows what he’s working for. It makes him feel better about it all if he knows that when he’s finished, he’ll have changed someone’s life and that makes him feel really good 

- I can’t believe Lance is actually Mark Sloan in disguise who would have thought 

Pidge:

- Dr. Katie (Pidge) Gunderson, which is her mom’s maiden name that she uses as her last name, that way there’s not two Dr. Holts because that would be confusing 

- Cardio surgeon because she’s a badass 

- Green scrubs 

- She loves doing the more experimentational procedures with new equipment. Her favorite thing is coming up with new ways to advance the cardio field and make her own mark in the world of medical science 

- (Has to use a step stool during surgery because she’s too short to reach the table rip) 

- Her brother Matt works at the hospital as well, and they’re the ultimate surgery duo 

- Keith’s bff 

- That one doctor who knows everyone’s business and loves gossiping about other doctors with the patients 

- Steadiest surgical hands this side of the Mississippi 

- Once performed an emergency valve repair in the dark and they talked about her around the hospital for weeks it was awesome 

- “Why do you like cardio so much?” “Because I have no heart and operating on other people’s is satisfying” 

- So competitive when it comes to surgeries it’s not even funny. She’ll steal a surgery from right under you and you won’t even realize she did it until you walk into the OR later and find her already halfway finished with the surgery 

- Wears Heelies to work so she can skate into the OR like a cool person 

- She works fifteen hour shifts at a time and no one ever sees her go home or use an on-call room?? Does she sleep?? Is she a vampire?? Was she ever alive in the first place?? No one knows 

Matt:

- Dr. Matthew Holt 

- Matt is the ortho attending, so he specializes in bones 

- Gray scrubs (he doesn’t really have a color, but he wore a lot of gray-ish stuff in Voltron so I’m working with what I have here) 

- Bffs with Shiro and is the dude who strolls into the OR with a bag of chips while Shiro is in the middle of brain surgery to talk about Game of Thrones 

- Was the one who saved Shiro’s arm and got him the prosthetic after his accident. He was working in a medical trial for a new high-tech bionic arm, and he submitted Shiro’s name to be a candidate and he got picked 

- The one who eats everyone else’s lunches in the break room

- (jackson avery jACKSON AVERY JACKSON AVERY)

- The one who fills plastic gloves with helium and gives them to kids as balloons 

- Draws anime characters on people’s charts to make them laugh 

- “Hey why’d you go into ortho, Matt?” “I like shattering people’s bones and this is the only legal way to do it” 

- Plays the Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeuf song on a loop during his surgeries because he claims it helps him focus 

- *sings* ”STAB IT IN HIS KIDNEYYYY” *accidentally does it* “sHIT” 

- But really though, despite being a walking meme, Matt is the best orthopedic surgeon in the whole hospital he’s awesome 

Hunk:

- Dr. Hunk Garrett 

- Peds surgeon (So mainly he works on kids)(He started out med school wanting to go into anesthesiology, but he found he has a gift for pediatric surgery and switched and has been proud of that choice ever since) 

- Yellow scrubs 

- During medical school he was super squeamish and could barely start an IV without puking, but he eventually overcame that and became a fantastic doctor 

- Actual ball of fluff and amazingness 

- Most definitely has a teddy bear pin on the pocket of his lab coat why is this even a question 

- The best pediatric surgeon in the whole hospital and is recommended all over for his fantastic bedside manner and ability to put any patient at ease 

- He’s great with kids and super good at comforting the parents as well 

- Spends a lot of time in the NICU looking at all the cute babies and drags everyone else in there when they’re sad 

- Lance’s bff/roommate 

- Dating Shay, who’s the super sweet neonatal surgeon 

- Always carries around stickers in his pockets and gives them to sick kids to cheer them up. Also to adults who look like they could use a scratch and sniff dancing strawberry sticker because honestly who doesn’t 

- He gave one to Keith once after the guy lost three patients in one day and it actually made him smile a little. It was Hunk’s proudest moment

Coran:

- Coran Coran the Gorgeous Man is the toughest damn nurse in this whole hospital 

- Orange scrubs 

- He’s also Allura’s dad for all intents and purposes after her own father died 

- Also a war vet who worked as an army trauma surgeon years ago, but when he came back he became a nurse because it was a more rewarding field and he wanted to be closer to Allura. It was right after her father’s death, so Coran wanted to be able to help her more since now she has inherited an entire hospital to run all by herself 

- Knows everyone’s business because he’s the nurse whom everyone confides in, so he knows all

- Her father Alfor owned the hospital until his death during what was supposed to be a routine heart surgery. His death was really hard on Allura and Coran, the latter of whom is now like a dad to Allura 

- Allura now owns the hospital as well as runs the surgical field, so she’s super busy. But it’s all good because she’s the best at running everything smoothly and she’s just so great okay 

- (Is it just me or is Allura just Miranda Bailey but even more radiant)(the answer is yes, yes she is) 

- Has four pet mice that used to be lab mice, but she got attached and now keeps them in a cage in her office

It's the most bitter and competitive season EVER because literally everyone? Just? Falls for him?

Lotor's the producer who sends in his Galra Gals to check in on the show. None of them actually like it, but it rakes in the money and they just? Okay, you get another season, Voltron.

It's not even about the goddamn money, by the end of it the contestants all burn the money in a garbage can if they got to win for it

Nyma wouldn't.

Nyma's still a little more interested in the money than in the boy, because her life outside the show? Not great.

No, but also Lance wouldn't ask her to because he Gets It, which does Not Help Nyma with her Feelings Problem

Keith and Allura team up at one point like "a threesome might do it and we get along fuck it let's do this."

Oh god, there's only one problem: Who the hell actually WINS!?!

Because Lancey Lance is just like: "How? Do all these wonderful people? Like me? Must not be real?"

The problem is the same as the usual one for that show, but for different reasons. Most of the time it's "How does the Bachelor know they don't just want the money/to win" but now it's "How do they Convince the worlds' lowest self-esteem millionaire that they value his personhood and love him for who he is?"

Hm... you know what?

Nyma wins the prize money.

Lance pools his personal money with Allura's to buy an extra big mansion and they all go live in polyamorous harmony.

Meanwhile, Shiro screams into a pillow.

And Lotor greenlights another season.

THE BEST SOLUTION

Like, they don't all have to be in a relationship with Each Other, (But Keith and Allura are) but they all love Lance and they can fucking Make it Work

and they have enough money that they can all have as much and as private of a space as they desire, which is a huge greasing of the wheels so to speak

Acxa and Narti show up one day like "Hey, so the audience wants to know how this is all working out. Are you okay with us filming your lives here for a new show?"

At one point Coran and Shiro just show up because Lance and Allura were like "Yeah, okay, we need help with just... organizing life." Keith was the one to call in Shiro, and Allura already knew Coran and nobody’s actually sure why a rich girl like her went on the show. She refuses to tell and Coran just gives a smile and launches into a long-winded story about a trip he took around the world once.

Keith got his spot on the show because of Shiro.

One day Ryou and Matt just show up and Lance is like

"are... are you trying to join in on the poly because I know it's big but we're not actually open to--" "Look at my face and think about--" "OH MY GOD YOU'RE MATT. PIDGE’S MATT. Hi, no, sorry about that, come in, she’s upstairs, does she know you’re here?" “Nah, it’s a surprise!” *three minutes later, Pidge and Matt chase each other into the pool, screaming*

Okay, but Lotor wants to drive up Ratings with Drama. But it never works?

All the manufactured drama just? Can't penetrate? The sincere love and trust?

See, I like the idea of Lotor being vaguely easygoing?

He pokes and prods at the relationships to see if he CAN manufacture drama, but he kind of just sits back and lets things go their own course.

hmm. maybe someone else in the production company then?

"Only one person can win and they're all falling for him, that's enough drama on its own."

But I LOVE the idea of Lotor doing his David Attenborough impression on this.

He just sits back and... watches them do their thing.

He is the epitome of "Okay, You Do That."

There is a massive subset of people shipping Kallura just because they're the ones that START the whole "Okay but poly though" idea.

And Shay is on the show, the only one not falling for Lance but for Hunk instead. Hunk’s personally torn between the two but kiiiiiiinda leaning towards Shay. The audience has mixed opinions. (Zethrid is very much rooting for Hunay. She thinks any baby they have could probably bench press a truck and she is DOWN for that.) (Ezor’s favorite contestant is clearly Nyma.)

ALSO THERE WAS A SEASON AT SOME POINT WHERE RYOU (Kuron) WAS A CONTESTANT.

Shiro had been working on the show for several seasons by that point and they introduce Ryou as a contestant and the camera just whips to Shiro’s face.

Which is obviously a rictus of horror.

The entire season is Ryou being very laidback and kind of a doofus while the camera pans to Shiro just staring into the middling distance off to the side.

There's an entire major subplot just based around the fact that the host is eternally embarrassed by his twin brother.

Ryou lasts for a long time mostly because everyone finds this hilarious instead of because anyone actually wants him to win.

"Do you want to win?" "No, but I want to see if I can make Shiro's hair go a little greyer than it already is."

"Shiro, as a host, are you--" "I'm disowning him." "YOU CAN'T DISOWN ME." "I'LL ADOPT KEITH AS MY BROTHER INSTEAD." "RUDE."

Two seasons later, Keith is on the show and Shiro is just like "If you do what Ryou did, I'm leaving."

Keith makes his own messes, but at least he doesn't have Shiro's face, and it's not done with the express purpose of fucking with Shiro, unlike Ryou, so that’s nice.

Old Man Keith

Keith is working at The Shirogane's Sewing Shop when he is cursed to be an old man. Not too keen about his new state of life, he sets out to The Waist Lands to find a magic user who can undo the magic done to him. Along the way, he runs into marvel and fantasy, like he's never seen before, and maybe, on the journey he will find what happened to his missing brother Shiro, why he was cursed in the first place, and who the beautiful flighty magic man now plaguing his life is.

Howl's Moving Castle Voltron AU

Chapter 1: Old age gets to us all

Keith stretched his sore back. After a full day of hunching over sowing, he ached all over. Shiro had chasted him a few times for his poor posture, and to Keith’s credit, he did try to correct it throughout the day. But after each fix he found himself hunched over not too long after.

Out of the window in his work area, Keith watched as his fellow seamstresses filed out of the shop for the night. Deciding to follow suit, once he finished his peace, Keith locked up the shop and walked home. The parade was tomorrow and the main street would be closed off for it. The Shiroganes, owner of the shop Keith works at and his adoptive parents, gave everyone half days; either opening or closing, so that all the seamstress could enjoy the festivities. As he walked home Keith mulled over what he would do with his free morning. He didn’t have much hobbies wise, except maybe exercise…

Keith groaned as he willed his stiff muscles to move. What time was it? The sun was in his face and noisemakers could be heard from the street. So the parade had already started, which meant it was at least 8. Keith groaned and grunted now, trying to pull himself out of his too hot bed. The only clock in the Shirogane household was in the kitchen it was a wonder how they all managed to make it everywhere on time. Well… all except Keith who did not have their magical ability to cope without a readily available clock.

By the time Keith was dressed for the day and had managed to stumble downstairs, it was already 11, time for him to head to work. “So much for my day off\...” Keith mumbled as he headed out the side door and down the cities back allies to avoid the crowd. The day was getting hot and Keith was thankful for the cover of the tall buildings around him.

Barely halfway to the shop, Keith ran into trouble. A burly man radiating the stank of alcohol, stumbled his way into the ally, blocking Keith’s path. Unsure of what the man’s intent Keith started to back away in an attempt to take another route; too many delays and he might be late relieving the morning shift, which just wouldn’t be fair to them cutting into their half day. Unfortunately, as he backed up he ran into yet another large man, this one shorter than first but heftier and still a good head taller than Keith.

“Hey guys, I’m not looking for trouble just trying to get to work.” Keith tried but the second man just glowered. Keith and his mullet tried to sidestep the guy but Mr. Muscles matched Keith’s step and slurred out something incomprehensible before trying to sock Keith one in the jaw. Luckily the man was slow and drunk while Keith was agile and sober. Dodging one drunk man punch was easy, but soon the original drunkard was having a swing at Keith as well. Now, Keith was in fairly good shape despite his sedentary job, but taking on two buff guys in a fight, drunk or not, was proving to a little more than the 20 year old could take. The taller one managed a hit to Keith biceps while the more muscular one got a good one to the gut, knocking Keith to the ground.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Chimed a voice from behind the first man. “Two big boys against one cutie, that doesn’t seem fair now does it?”

“Cutie?” repeated Keith in shock and what he hoped looked like offense.

“EWAHU UUUH?” slurred-yelled the second man. So far the most enunciated statement form the two men. Keith puzzled it to translate to “Who are you?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I’m a prince here to rescue the damsel in distress.” Answered the mystery man who apparently had also figured out the strings out sounds --- as in his voice played like a melody echoing off the cobblestone back alley. Once again Keith felt himself holding back his temper in favor of a little backup on these dudes. But upon inspection, the mystery man didn’t look like he would be much good in a fight. Tall, fair build but still slim, brown hair in a low ponytail tossed over one shoulder, flawless tanned toned skin, striking blue eyes… Suddenly aware of his eyes raking up and down this stranger, Keith snapped his head in the other direction; the shorter drunkard. But before he could do anything the two men abruptly picked themselves up and waddled off. What.

With a devilish glint in his eyes and a flourish of the wrist, the unknown man bowed with his hand offered out to Keith. Obliging, he helped the raven haired boy to his feet. Now standing the mystery man draped his arm around Keith’s shoulders; which brought to attention, this mystery man was a full head taller than Keith, the audacity of all these tall people!

“Sorry about them, it's such a shame a lovely face like yours had to get scratched up because some people can't handle a few~.” Keith tried to stammer in protest before the was cut off.

“uh oh~” sung the brunet. Behind them, two blob creatures, vaguely shaped like people, were running towards them. Using the arm around Keith's shoulders, the other man pulled him down various pathways through the maze of the cities backroads. But soon they had exhausted their routes and ran a dead end. Seamlessly sliding his had from Keith's shoulder to around his waist, the blue eyed trouble winked at Keith, “Hold on cutie.”

“wha- why- ” Keith found himself stammering and getting cut off all over again. This time by a sudden lurch into the air. Poor boy couldn’t help but let out a yelp in alarm. The soft chucked in his ear didn’t help Keith’s embarrassment.

“Okay now just stretch your legs out and walk like normal.” Instructed the mystery man. Keith reluctantly did as told, slowly he unwrapped his arms from around the other man, in a way he hadn’t even noticed they were in. As Keith withdrew and stretched out, the blue eyed man slid his hands down Keith's arms and intertwined their fingers. At first unsteady, Keith found each step easier than the last. Soon the two were literally walking on air. The view over the parade was bustling and colorful, and the lightness of his body was a welcomed relief. Relief from his regular back pain and his sore ankle (from the weird way he landed during the fight).

“So where are you headed, pretty boy?” inquired the mysterious blue eyed man.

“Shiroganes Sewing Shop on fifth.” Answered Keith, too entranced by the current situation to worry about giving a wizard his address or to be upset about all the pet names he’s been called today. Frankly, under any other circumstances, Keith would be fuming at these names but these weren’t normal circumstances.

The city was beautiful from the sky. Full of movement, full of life, full of color. Even the architecture seemed more impressive from their vantage point. Keith felt light, not just his body, but his heart. It had been so long since he last felt this relaxed he couldn’t help the smile on his face and didn’t notice the smile from the man guiding him across the sky.

But all good things must come to an end, even magical walks across the city skyline. Slowly the pair began their descent on the Shiroganes shop. Landing on the second floor balcony Keith stepped down off the railing and turned to look at the mysterious man. The two’s lingering hands slid apart and the wizard floated away giving one last wink to Keith.

Keith was in a daze for the rest of the day. Which is fine because the shop was very slow due to the parade, only a few large or difficult orders from previous days were left to do. Once again Keith was the last one to leave. As he tidied up his work area Keith heard the distinctive bell of the front door. Which was strange because he could have sworn he locked that door.

“Sorry we’re closed now,” he said walking over to the entrance, “but we open at 8 am tomorrow.” The woman standing before him was hunched over in a worn looking cloak with cold trimmings. Keith looked it over thinking that in its day it must have been nice, but was all but rags now. The woman wearing it look pretty much the same, worn by time.

The woman was followed by two men, taller and more imposing in stature, but also wearing the same purple cloak. The old lady in the middle smiled, emphasizing her pointed jaw. All three of their eyes were hidden, and something about the ways the presence loomed made Keith’s stomach churn. Taking a step back he tried to reiterate the shop’s customer hours but he was interrupted (for the third time that day!). A rush of murky wind blew past him. Just as suddenly as they had appeared the trio left. Left in their wake was an echo of a message drifting in the air, “Lance knows where to find me.” Weird and cryptic.

Keith felt wobbly on his feet and when he stretched out his hands to brace himself he found that they were quite wrinkly. “Oh god,” he croaked. “Oh god,” he croaked again after hearing his voice. Fumbling his way to the shop's full body mirror, Keith gave himself a once over is dismay. He was old. Oh so old. Wrinkly grandfather old.

After recovering from the shock a bit Keith considered, “Well Shiro always did say I act like an old grumpy man. And it’s not like I’m not used to a creaky sore body.”

The walk home was longer and colder than Keith remembered but he made it all the same. Everyone was asleep at the Shirogane’s by the time Keith arrived home and the next day was his regular day off, so there’s a good chance he can go a while without being found. However, hiding really isn’t Keith style, in fact, by the next morning, he was already preparing for a journey out to the Waist Lands. Since a good night's sleep didn’t seem to fix his decrepit face, he might as well find some magic that can undo this magic. The Waist Lands are known for housing many witches and wizards, so that is where he would try first. The Waists were vast but Keith hoped if he left soon enough, he would be able to run into the witch who cursed him, one of her henchmen, or the wizard who he ran into that morning. This was his first real run in with magic but he figured any one of them would do.

Modern/YouTubers AU Klance Pride Headcanon [Part 1]

So this is from a hc convo I was having with my klance shipping buddy @destielschild 

So basically klance meet at a Pride parade and these are also my general Voltron gang Pride headcanons. 

So the voltron team is split into 2 friendship groups Lance’s friendship group (Hunk, Hunk’s moms, Shay, and Lance’s lesbian sister - Elena)

Hunk 

Hunk in this au is the lovable straight ally - he’s been to Pride every year since he was a child because of his Moms, it’s a thing they do - a tradition. 

He and Shay are dating they are the most adorable couple 

He’s wearing his “I <3 my moms” rainbow shirt and its so wholesome

He once got shouted at by an angry gay for being there and not being LGBTQ+, but Mom Ana tore the guy a new one telling him how supportive and amazing her beautiful son is.

This year he’s holding a sign that says “You know it’s bad when a straight guy is marching” - you know the one

He and Shay have a YouTube cooking channel called Hunkalicious and PassTheShay cook things - They’re pretty well known and do lots of collabs with Lance.

Their YouTube name is Hunk-A-love-&-A-Pinch-A-Shay 

(They have so many Shay is Salt memes bc she can be sALTY AF when needed)

Hunk also has a side gaming/sciene-y things channel (How he met Pidge) 

Shay

Shay is bisexual

The two of them are so in love and sometimes they sit in coffee shops and admire pretty girls together (Shay always adds on ‘Of course she’s not nearly as pretty as you.’ Hunk is the prettiest boy fight me on this. he giggles every time and blushes)

She’s wearing a ‘bisexu-whale’ top Hunk got her bc she majors in marine bio and she ADORES whales.

Lance

Lance is tagging along with Hunk’s crew - He hasn’t been out for long (his family are v Catholic and traditionally Cuban - his dad didn’t speak to him for a month after he came out) and it’s his first EVER Pride.

He’s super nervous although he’s literally been adopted into the Garrett family he feels like hes intruding tagging along on their traditional Pride march.

Shay notices INSTANTLY and makes him feel right at home in the bi community.

“Lance, I know you haven’t been out for long, but you are a valid bisexual, no matter what anyone says, your sexuality is yours to define and nobody else’s. You belong here.”

(This is why we love Shay) Lance cries for five minutes and is enveloped in a group hug.

Shay paints Bi hearts onto Lance’s cheeks (one gets smudged but he doesn't care) 

He does his make up (he hardly every wears make up, but he loves doing it) - Purple to pink to blue eyeshadow, and a touch of eyeliner.

Of course he also sprinkles a fuckton of pink glitter over himself, the Moms, Hunk and Shay

Lance is a pretty well known YouTuber - SirLancelot (he does mostly Vlogs, make-up tutorials, random funnies, relatables videos, occasional gaming sessions and he also pops up frequently on Hunk and Shay’s channel - it’s adorable and when Lance is involved they’re always “w/ the bestie” videos) And he decided to Vlog the whole thing - telling his subscribers in a mini vid that he’d be going to his first Pride and uploading a Vlog of it the following day. 

When he first get’s there there are so many people and it’s all so much he thinks he might just faint, but as soon the Parade starts, Lance is on cloud nine. Hunk is manning the Vlog camera (he offered to as it’s Lances first one and he wants Lance to enjoy it)and captures Lance grinning and chanting and waving his “AIN’T NO LIE BABY, BI BI BI” sign with gusto.

He turns to grin at Hunk who is literally internally screaming and shaking Shay gushing to the camera about “LOOK AT HIM! HE’S SO HAPPY AND ADORABLE!!! HE LOOKS SO CUTE, LOOK AT HIM SHAY- MY BEST FRIEND!! I’M SO PROUD!”

Lance is wearing a “my BI-FI signal is strong” shirt that the moms got him. 

Elena 

Lance’s sister, they’re the same age - her mom is actually Lance’s Aunt, but the pregnancy was accidental and Camille never wanted children, so at aged 5 when Camille finally told her mother to stuff it and that she did not want children - Rosa took Elena in as one of her own

From then on the two of them were permanently joined at the hip (Elena is just as goofy and just as stubborn as Lance - and both of them are strong willed and will Fight You about womens rights, POC rights and LGBT+ rights)

She is a Lesbian™

She came out when she was 15 - she had a massive crush on her best friend Lucy and told mom and Lance first (their other siblings found out through evesdropping and general sneakiness) and told dad a few days before her Quinces. He didn’t show up so when the father-daughter dance came up Lance was the one who calmly got up - as if it were meant to be him up there with her and danced with her as she tried not to cry. And the first person Lance told he might be Bi was Elena. (She always kinda knew)

She regularly features in Lance’s videos (she sort of half lives at his and Hunk’s place - crashes on the couch every other night) known (early on) in Lance’s post-moving-in-with-Hunk videos as That Cuban Lesbian™ who always interrupts Lance’s videos to complain or yell at him in Spanish. Ofc anyone who’s a real Lancelot fan knows who she is. 

She was in his Coming Out video where he told the world he was Bi - and they called mom together, for support, and then told Hunk. (Hunk cried many tears)

She had a Very Gay™ crush on Shay when they first met and it’s a running joke that Hunk got to Shay first and that Elena is Bitter about this.

She has a mini lesbian flag tattooed onto her shoulder blade - Lance went with her to get it.

Keith’s friendship group (Pidge, Shiro, Matt, Allura, Coran and Alfor)

Pidge

Pidge is Nonbinary They/Them or occasionally She/Her pronouns

They identify as an Ace Lesbian (just hear me out - cute dates where Pidge is all flustered bc Pretty Girl!!! And just talking about Science Stuff™ and blushing aaraarrrrrrrgggghhhh)

Pidge is also a YouTuber but like an actual Big Time™ YouTuber - They used to be HackerKatie but then they came out and changed their name so now they’re HackerPidge (If you’ve ever watched MilesChronicals that is what Pidge’s Channel is like - also a Gaming Channel - for Gaming) 

They live in a space-y flat with Keith, Shiro and Matt but they’re like never there??? (Once they straight up disappeared for a week and one morning Keith walked into the kitchen to just see Pidge sat on top of the fridge eating a bowl of Lucky Charms™)

One time they pulled a massive prank on Shiro (which they ofc recorded and put on YouTube) and when Shiro found out he banned them from YouTube and all Social Media for two weeks. Turns out that was a Bad Idea™ because Pidge fans (Hacklets) started Major Discourse on Twitter and Tumblr bc they didn’t get updates and there was nothing on Pidge’s social media (there was a theory that Pidge was dead). Shiro allowed Pidge back on YouTube and stuff and Pidge made a video explaining with Shiro in the back of the video holding one of those Shame Signs that said “I banned my child from social media for two weeks and accidentally started an internet war”

Shiro and Matt

Shiro is a very Bi Dad Brother and he is Very Tired™

Matt is the Gayest being you will ever meet.

He and Matt have been dating since High school, they were best friends until Matt blurted at Prom to the entire student body that he’d been in love with Shiro since middle school

Shiro felt the same and they started dating (The entire school was relieved - there were betting pools on when one or the other was finally going to fess up)

They have a joint YouTube channel (GaysInSpace - Matt-Man and SpaceDad) Its mostly a fitness/yoga and some make-up videos (they did the Boyfriend Does My Make-up - it was horrendous) He did a galaxy make-up tutorial ONCE because he and Matt had just got into loads of space shows/films and was forever named SpaceDad because of it. 

They mostly do couples yoga and fitness videos which generally turn into shenanigans after the first like ten minutes - they are the power couple of space and their fans named themselves the ‘Gaybies’

Shiro and Matt have matching shirts and hoodies

T Shirts: Matt - My Boyfriend is Bi-Lingual (bc Shiro can speak fluent Japanese) / Shiro - My boyfriend’s gay, but I’m not.

Matt bought a giant gay flag at the start of the parade and has since tied it around his shoulders 

Shiro’s holding a sign that on the front says “God said Adam and Eve so I did both” but on the back has a message that Matt hasn’t seen “My boyfriend has no clue I’m going to propose today.”

Shiro proposes halfway through the parade (Lance’s group was actually just a little behind them and he and Hunk caught the entire thing on camera). The music from the parade cut out and all of their closes high school friends, Shiro’s dad and Matt’s parents emerge from the crowd whilst a song they both adore (“Marry Me” by Jessica Smith - when Lance uploads the video he makes sure to link the song in the description to credit the artist) starts to play, Shiro gets passed a mic and he starts to sing (his voice isn’t perfect but it’s damn good) When the chorus (May All Recognise Real love Yours and mine Make all love Equal) comes on the friends and family members hold up the lyrics to spell out MARRY ME. Matt is completely stunned (the gay flag cape had been stolen by Keith earlier so at least he didn’t look like a complete idiot) Then Shiro’s getting down on one knee and opening a box with a ring in it at Matt’s crying. 

“What do you say, Cadet? Wanna get hitched?”

“Oh for christ- Just put the ring on my finger and kiss me idiot!” 

Matt’s still crying as Shiro slides the band onto Matt’s finger and swoops up for a kiss, before turning around to yell “HE SAID YES!”

Allura

Allura is a beautiful Lesbian and she and Elena get on swimmingly (Elena has the biggest crush on her and she and Lance cry about how beautiful she is from her videos)

Her user is PrincessOfAltea she does beauty tips and tricks as well as a gaming channel - she’s surprisingly good and is one of The Best players in a game called Altea (It’s an RPG Quest series) - her subscribers love how amazing she is and she usually plays with Matt, Pidge, and Shiro - Keith sometimes joins in and he’s surprisingly good. 

She’s Alfor and Coran’s daughter (Alfor’s biologically - they got a surrogate mother - who they still keep in contact with - she’s Ace/Aro and also goes to Pride with them but she couldn’t make it this year)

She met Shiro through working out at the same gym - He mad a mini bi crush on her and gushed to Matt about the Pretty Girl at the gym for weeks

(Matt didn’t get too jealous - as soon as he lent over and pressed a kiss to Shiro’s lips, he would generally shut up about Pretty Girl and think about Pretty Boyfriend instead)

Allura is covered head-to-foot in glitter (as are Coran and Alfor) because of an incident that happened at Shiro’s flat with Pidge, a pop-tart and glitter Allura was opening to dab on her face. 

She has the lesbian flag painted like war paint on her cheeks and a pastel top with two girls kissing on it that says “Girls like Girls like Boys Do” on it. 

She’s also parading around with a sign that says “I love my emo gay son” with a picture of Keith’s face on it.

Keith

Keith has been out for years. Literally since he was thirteen. 

(He came out via a dinner conversation, when Matt was over for dinner at the Shirogane Household one evening. Matt had been talking about how all teenage boys are supposed to be obsessed with girls and wanting to date girls etc. and Keith had simply said “Well I don’t like any girls but I was in calculus the other day with Jared and I thought he looked cute. I wouldn’t mind being his boyfriend.”  A bug eyed Papa Shirogane had asked “Keith are you gAY?” - Keith had asked what that meant and after Shiro had explained “B-boys who l-like other b-boys... romantically.” Keith had shrugged dismissively and said “Well I guess then, yeah, I am.”)

He’d also been watching SirLancelot’s videos since Lance had begun YouTubing (at first they’d just been braces-Lance and Hunk prank videos and relatables middle schoolers version) And has pretty much been In Love since.

However, this was Keith’s first ever Pride - the only reason he’d actually agreed to go was because he knew Shiro planned to propose and he didn’t want to miss that, despite the overwhelming threat of an large-crowd-induced anxiety attacks.

He’d gone with a simple gay outfit, black shorts, ratty converse, flannel around his waist, rainbow suspenders and a tank top Shiro had gotten him especially (that said Too Gay For This World)

At first Keith had refused to wear it (he secretly adores this top and Shiro Knows)

He has his own YouTube channel which isn't isn’t nearly as popular as Lance’s - but he has a solid fanbase

His user is CryptidKeith and his channel is called The Keith-Files - Conspiracy Theories

His fans are called his Cryptids and he is continuously referred to as “The Wild Keef” due to a comment Pidge once made in one of their Conspiracy collabs

Of course Hunk and Pidge have done many collabs and when its mentioned that most going are YouTubers they decide to meet up and introduce their friendship groups - Lance decides to vlog it all as he is anyway - First Pride.

YEAAAH, DUDE, and I know exactly what you mean!! A very similar thing happened for me (albeit in reverse) with Keith!

I watched Voltron for the first time a couple months ago (I think back in March?) on a whim because Netflix was like “try iiiiit” and I was like “okay” since I didn’t have anything else I was watching at the time. I had already loved Alan for months by this point (I think it’s perhaps almost been a year by now? Getting close, anyway), so I already held super deep affection for him, and I knew pretty much nothing about the show save for fanart that I saw here or there on my dash. Like, I knew it had to do with space, and a giant robot, and that’s about it. But when Keith appeared on his hoverbike to save Shiro in the first episode, my heart jumped in my chest and I was like, “That’s him. I found him. I found the boy.” I knew right away that hew as going to end up being my fave, and whAT DO YOU KNOW, I WAS RIGHT, HE’S AMAZING!

And that said! Alan and Keith actually have quite a few similarities between them, physical similarities aside! They’re each their own character, of course, but they have quite a lot in common in terms of personality, so I really think you’ll like (and perhaps even love<3) Alan as well!!

Anyway, just in case you’re interested, I’m gonna go ahead and draw up a quick episode list for you. :D You’re of course free to watch the entire Kalos series and I’m not going to discourage you, but although Alan is both protagonist and deuteragonist to the main plot that covers the climax of the saga (it’s complicated---basically, they wrote him into the protagonist role, realized once they hit the climax that they still had to account for Ash being the protagonist of the show, and so Alan and Ash flip-flop between protagonist and deuteragonist and it’s a bit of a mess), he only appears in a handful of main series episodes. His biggest part comes in a series of four special episodes called The Strongest Mega Evolution, which is where you really want to start, because that’s where you get his backstory and everything. (Plus, he’s unequivocally the protagonist there---Ash doesn’t appear at all, save for a very brief mention in TSME 1!)

So, if you’re here for Alan’s story, here are the specials / episodes you’re going to want to watch, in order:

XY068 (“The Coveted Mega Evolution! Garchomp’s Bonds!!”) --- Alan doesn’t actually appear in person in this one. However, this one is still important to his story, imo, as you see more of his relationship with Professor Sycamore in it (particularly in flashbacks Professor Sycamore has midway through the episode, which show shots of Alan’s childhood at the lab), and Professor Sycamore is pretty much his (unofficially) adoptive father. (Like, it’s kind of hilarious in the best way, but if you Google them there are numerous results of people being like “they’re father and son yes????” from various different websites, and when the episodes were airing people on YouTube kept being like “I keep expecting a plot twist where it’s revealed Sycamore is his father.” It’s one of the greatest unspoken truths of the Pokémon universe tbh.) Also, the end of the episode features Sycamore making one of the most suggestive come-ons to another character that you could imagine, so honestly, although the whole episode is good (and, as I said, does provide important material for Sycamore’s relationship with Alan!), if nothing else, that moment there at the end is #iconic and worth seeing at least once.

XYZ013 (“The Strongest Mega Battle! Greninja vs. Mega Charizard!”) --- This is Alan’s first official appearance in the main series! Though the episode itself is still largely focusing on Ash, I find that it’s notable because this does switch over to Alan’s perspective more than once. Again, the whole “they’re both protagonist and deuteragonist” thing begins here. 

XYZ014 (“The Explosive Ground Force! The Zygarde Capture Operation!!”)

XYZ023 (“Ash and Alan! Greninja vs. Mega Charizard Once Again!!”)

XYZ030 (“Find Carbink! Goodra and Dedenne!!”) --- Alan actually appears at the end of this episode. It’s a noteworthy appearance, I feel, not only because it shows him getting something he needs to participate in the climax at the end (trying to be vague to avoid spoilers, haha), but it also shows his motivation for doing so, which was insinuated before but outright stated here. This is an added motivation that he only gets after the other main series episodes (and in particular, after meeting and interacting with Ash<3), so I think it’s important to see, even if it’s just a scene at the end of the episode.

XYZ032 (“The Kalos League Begins! The Mega Charizard Showdown: X vs Y!!”) --- XYZ044 (“Starting From Zero! Clemont’s Decision!!) --- Once you hit XYZ032, you can pretty much watch straight through XYZ044, since Alan appears in just about every single episode (and this is the climax of the plot that began in TSME). There are two episodes in the middle that don’t have much to do with Alan (XYZ034 and XYZ035) because they’re Ash’s League battle with his standard rival, so you can skip those if you want, but I don’t think it would hurt to watch them, either. It’s a good battle. With that said, I should add a disclaimer: Technically Alan does appear in a couple episodes after XYZ044 (XYZ045 and XYZ047, to be specific). However, I personally really do not like them (understatement) because the writers essentially took all of the very real traumas and mental health issues Alan has as a result of everything (you’ll see) and swept them under the rug in order to push a theme there at the end. This, despite giving him what is (in my opinion) the perfect ending for him in XYZ044. So honestly, you could just stop after XYZ044, and pull a Nick Fury and disregard the rest of the nonsense they did with him after that (you know, “I recognize that the council has made a decision, but seeing that it’s a stupid-ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it”), as I’m doing, but I’ll be honest and admit that those episodes do exist. They’re terrible (at least in regards to what they do to Alan), but they do exist. I just don’t recommend bothering with them, haha.

Oh, and a note of clarification: Technically the Kalos saga was split into two “series.” XY is the first series, and then XY&Z is the second. They’re a direct continuation of each other, so there’s no real change, it’s just that Japan decided to switch up the name of the show partway through. (They do this a lot with the PokéAni, haha.) So that’s why you go from XY068 to XYZ013. I included the episode names so that you could be extra sure of the episodes you need to watch. (Also, if you use a streaming site, be careful: Some of the streaming sites have the order a bit messed up, so you’ll always want to trust the title card in the actual video more than episode blurbs on the website!)

Also! One final thing: Please watch this in Japanese with English subs! The English dub is really bad, and offensively bad in Alan’s case. They literally cast someone who had no prior credited voice acting experience (and sounds like he’s an adult at that, when Alan is a teenager---like, ~15), and it shows. Not to mention that they change the music in the worst ways at times and just . . . ugh. Please don’t go with the English dub on this one. Watch it in Japanese with English subs. You won’t regret it, I promise.

Anyway! This post is long enough as it is, but I’m really excited you’re interested!! (And a bit nervous, haha. He means so much to me that I can’t help but feel a bit anxious whenever I see someone is discovering his story for the first time!) I also, if you’re interested---and not to push my own work or anything, but---have a couple of pre-canon fics that you can read if you want. I can link them to you, since you don’t have to have seen his story first to understand them (since they’re pre-canon, and all). But that’s completely up to you! (I also have a ton of others since I’ve been super invested in him for a long time, but . . . those are probably better with context since they’re during canon / post-canon / AU, hahaha.)
