was watching the covid season of grey's anatomy all afternoon today and it was REALLY good with like the emotional and physical toll it took on the workers, how they all seem so tired and defeated, how often they break down in tears out of fear of their loved ones and the pain of being isolated from them, etc.
but then i stopped before they could kill off the character who spent a lot of time in manic depression last season and was actually shown to be in a better mental state right before he was killed in the middle of being a healthcare worker in a global pandemic
#no one judge me for the show that was my special interest when i was like 12#i knew when it was coming because he and his sister when after the person who i know killed him#and i'm so MAD ABOUT IT LIKE#they SHOWED that he had timers reminding him to take his meds and sleep#they SHOWED the people who helped him being proud of where he was literally right beforehand#they SHOWED him having several mental breakdowns AT WORK NO LESS#AND THEN THEY KILLED HIM?????#like okay. i did forgive them when derek died because i'm ngl it was kinda coming#i knew he wasn't going to be around by the end of the season#like. you know those movies where they show the missing/dead spouse in bed with the protag#and there's light all around them and they're talking about the future and how much they love each other#LITERALLY THEY HAD THAT THE EPISODE BEFORE HE DIED LMAO#so i was like 'oh the episode's only half over but the conflict is resolved. what's go- OH.'#but with andrew it's like. he didn't get that kind of a sendoff#there was no warning other than 'oh hey he's going after that woman he stopped last season while mid-manic episode'#this is the second chance i gave this series though ajdhskfjsj i stopped watching it after some honestly pretty decent nb rep#but it was poorly handled#also i hate teddy now akdjskdj girly's making up excuses for herself#throwing pity parties every episode because everyone knows she cheated on her husband and they're distancing from her#like. okay. you brought that on yourself though.#maybe? don't? cheat on your husband????#(i hate owen too btw <3 he literally said he cheated on cristina because he hated her)#(and he hated her because she got an abortion)#GRRRRRR#btw andrew did have bipolar canonically like they made that explicitly clear

UT/US Sans and Papyrus with a chronically ill SO that sleeps a lot due to fatigue? Maybe they need extra care from their skeletons but… feel like they’re burdening them sometimes. How would they reassure and care for their SO? ((Feel free to skip this one if you want.))
Undertale and Underswap Brothers With A Chronically Ill, Sleepy S/O
-Undertale-
Sans:
Sans would be more than happy to help you with anything you need
You're getting tired out in public? He'll shortcut you both home so you can rest
He'll take naps with you any time you need to sleep, and he'll cuddle you and hold you the whole time
He's not great with his words, but he'll try his best to show you that he loves you, so, so much
He'll do little things to help you out, stuff from cooking you food, reminding you to do things, just about anything you'd need, or even want him to do
He'll set timers to remind you to take your meds, if you have them
And even just at home, he'd be happy to just sit on the couch, holding you while you sleep, and watching tv
Papyrus:
Just like his brother, Papyrus would be glad to do anything you need, or want him to do
He'll remind you almost every time that he sees you, that he loves you, and that he doesn't see you as a burden in any way
If he notices that you're ever getting tired at home, he'll be quick to pick you up and bring you somewhere comfortable to rest
If you're out in public, he'll do the same, excuse the two of you and go home so that you don't exhaust yourself
Papyrus would make sure to remember what times you have to take your medications, if you have any, and he would check in to remind you to take them
He's usually pretty active, so when you're sleeping, he makes sure to get things done around the house
But he'll be sure to remind you that he's more than happy to do all of these things
On the rare occasion, Papyrus will lay down with you when you start getting tired, holding you, and possibly even falling asleep himself
-Underswap-
Blue:
Blue is typically pretty busy, but he makes sure that he has plenty of time to spend with you
Even when he's away, he'll make sure to text, and even call to tell you about how much you mean to him, and he'll talk about how his day is going
When he gets home from working, he'll instantly go find you and greet you, asking about how you've been and if you need anything
He'll make sure you had a good day, and that you got enough rest
If you didn't, he would be happy to go and lay down with you until you fall asleep
Once you do, he'll get up and do the things he needs to around the house, a big smile on his face the whole time while he thinks about how much you mean to him
Blue loves you more than he thought he would be capable, and he feels so lucky that you're his datemate
Stretch:
Stretch is usually pretty lazy, but he puts that aside for you when you need something
He'll be quick to go get it and come back so that the two of you can go back to cuddling and talking, probably his favorite thing of the day
Sometimes when you've fallen asleep, he'll leave for a little bit to go grab a surprise batch of your favorite thing from Muffet's
He just loves seeing you smile, and it just makes him that much happier when you do
Stretch has to take medication himself for ADHD, so he's sure to set timers and such for you to take your own if you need them
He loves to just sit on the couch or bed with you, talking to you about his favorite things, and listening to what ever it is that you have to say
He'll gush about how much he loves when he starts getting tired himself, before falling asleep with you in his arms

Sick Day || Will Byers x Reader
Requested: "how about a will x reader where poor reader is sick so the boys decide to visit her and she’s acting really affectionate hugging will complimenting him trying to kid his cute cheeks even saying how much she likes him and coming back to school so embarrassed by that and scared of confronting the boys"
Pairings: Will Byers x Reader [you two are some shy adorable little babies]
Tumblr media
The egg timer that you had set went off with a shrill ring. Cringing, you sat yourself up, and reached over turning it off. You had set the timer as a reminder to take the horrific cold medicine and now it was time to take another spoonful. It was disgusting and it make you gag. But you had been recovering quickly so it meant it was working.
Your face was scrunched up in disgust as you poured the gross goopy liquid out into the spoon, and set the bottle aside.
You sharply exhaled, bracing yourself for the foul taste and closed your eyes. It was even more disgusting than the last time and you felt an involuntary shiver run up your spine. Fortunately, you remembered to set aside your favorite juice to wash it down with, learning from your mistake of taking a swig of water.
Setting aside the medicine and setting the timer for your next dose, you slid yourself under the blankets once more. Nestling yourself up in the caccoon of blankets and pillows you had made for yourself on the couch. After all, you had the house to yourself for the day and you figured it didn't hurt to have some entertainment so the TV was on, the remote next to you.
The cold medicine shortly began taking effect. You could feel your eyelids grow heavy, and the next thing you knew you were being pulled from sleep by a loud thud, followed by a string of hushed whispers.
This of course concerned you, given nobody was supposed to be home until eight PM, but felt relief wash over you when you recognized one of the voices to be Dustin's who was cursing under his breath.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. Dammit. Motherfuc-"
"Dustin!" Will hissed under his breath. "Shut up! She's sleeping."
"I'm trying to" you slurred.
Great. You forgot how drowsy and loopy you got on this stuff. It was was easy to forget since you had been home alone while on it. With nobody to interact with, it was harder to tell.
"Y/n. I'm sorry, we didn't mean to wake you." Will said quietly. "We just thought we'd swing by and see how you were doing. We even brought your stuff from school. I took notes for you, so,"
"Really?" You asked, now on your side facing Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max and Mike. "Tha- Thas'sweet, thanks" you cooed, your brain foggy from sleep and cold medicine.
Will chuckled weakly, a genuine smile on his face. "No problem."
Dustin, who was still hopping on one foot, grasping his other was taking sharp breaths.
"Dude, what is your problem?" Lucas asked.
"I stubbed my fucking toe!" He exclaimed.
Max chuckled and Lucas rolled his eyes.
"There'ssome ice in the freezer," you slurred.
"Thanks," Dustin said, hobbling off to freezer in the kitchen.
"Have a seat" you mumbled, and the party looked at one another and shrugged, finding seats scattered across the living room.
Will ended up taking a seat near you, in case you needed anything. Something you appreciated.
"I missed you guys," you pouted, and sniffled, a combination of the cold and your emotions. "So much,"
They gave each other a confused look and looked back at you.
"Man, she's really out of it, huh?" Mike said.
"No kidding," Max said.
"Give her a break, she's been out sick all week" Will said, looking at them.
You smiled tearfully at Will. "You're so nice!" You whined.
Will chuckled, knowing you weren't thinking clearly from the meds.
"Thanks, Y/n," he said kindly.
It was quiet for a short minute, nobody knowing what to say when Dustin came back into the living room with a small baggie of ice.
You giggled, smiling weakly and you called out enthusiastically your friend. "Dustybun!"
Dustin's frowned at the name given to him by his girlfriend, and everyone burst into laughter. "Not cool, Y/n,"
"I like her like this," Lucas said.
"I like you too, Lucas. You're cool." You mumbled, snuggling up to your pillow, thinking he gave you a compliment.
"You're pretty cool too, L/n" He chuckled.
At that moment, your stomach growled, loud enough for everyone to hear, and you frowned.
"Do you want me go get you some food?" Will offered.
Your eyes closed, you sighed contently. "Yes pleeaase," you drawled.
Will got up and disappeared into the kitchen.
"Could he be any more obvious?" Dustin whispered.
Mike elbowed Dustin, shushing him.
"What? Like she'll remember this." Dustin argued.
You had been zoning out and suddenly you burst into a fit of giggles. The others looked at you skeptically but you were in your own little world.
Mike shrugged. "That's fair,"
At that moment, Will returned with a small snack and a glass of water. He walked over to where you were sitting and set the glass of water down on the side table and handed you the food.
"Here you go Y/n"
You looked up at him, he was looking at you kindly, waiting for you to take the food.
You were focused on his face. More specifically his, nose. You slowly reached up and touched his nose. "Boop."
He gave you an amused look, and chuckled nervously.
"Um, do you not want eat right now?" He asked awkwardly.
"No, I'm hungry." You stated confidently, and you struggled to sit up and get comfortable.
Noticing this, Will knelt down on his knees next to you on the couch and adjusted the pillow behind your back.
Your head felt heavy when you sat up, and you realized how sluggish your limbs felt.
You frowned. "My head is so much!" You exclaimed distressed.
"What?" He asked confused.
"You heard her, her head is so much!" Lucas laughed.
"Yeah!" You said.
"My head is heavy, duh!" You sent Will a look that said 'keep up, man' and looked at the others, Lucas in particular like 'can you believe this guy?'
Lucas, who was now thoroughly entertained, nodded along with you, encouraging you.
"But it's okay," you patted Will's cheek. "It's a good thing you're cute."
Will turned pink, and looked to others for help, but they only grinned back at him, eyes widened slightly, obviously happy with where this was going.
"Um, thanks?"
"You're welcome," you cooed. "You're so nice, and cute, an-and nice!"
"Thanks," he chuckled weakly.
"Tha-that's why I like you so much, silly!" You said matter-of-factly.
Max who had already found out about your crush on the boy, bit back a laugh, feeling bad for you, but also reveling in the fact that this was happening.
Everyone else was just as shocked, no more so than Will though of course.
"Um, I- uh," He stuttered, his face now scarlet. "Why don't you just eat a couple bites, and uh, we'll let you sleep some more. We've kept you up long enough. Besides, you need the rest."
You pouted. "But I don't want you to go."
"Yeah but you need your sleep. This cold really did a number on you,"
"Ugh!" You exclaimed suddenly, startling the group, and you gestured lazily to the bottle of cold syrup. "I hate that stuff! It's nasty and it made my brain tired,"
You didn't know how else to phrase it, your entire brain felt sluggish and you were barely making sense of this conversation.
A look of disappointment flashed across Will's face as he looked at the bottle. It disappeared quickly and he looked back at you.
"Yeah, which is why you need rest. That stuff is super strong,"
"It super sucks," you retorted, giggling at your joke.
"Yeah, it super sucks." He chuckled, looking at you fondly.
Will stood up and the others followed suit. "Alright, is there anything else you need before we go?"
You blinked rapidly, your brain still catching up. "There is one thing?"
"Yeah?" He raised his eyebrows, waiting for you to continue.
"A hug goodbye?" You asked, looking up at him innocently, your eyes still droopy.
He seemed taken aback, but complied leaning down to hug you.
Arms outstretched you engulfed him in a hug and as he pulled away you took the opportunity to kiss his cheek, making a small 'muah' sound that the others noticed.
He jumped slightly, and stood up quickly. Looking at you with wide eyes as he lightly touched his bright red cheek where your lips just were.
You giggled mischievously. "Now you're gonna get my germs"
+++
It was Monday morning, and you were finally back at school. You were bummed that you didn't get to stay at home all day but you were relieved you didn't have to deal with that shitty cold that made you miserable.
Plus you would get to see your friends. You barely remember them coming to visit you, and just like that bits and pieces came flowing back. Your face suddenly went pale.
You told Will you liked him. You told your crush you liked him and doted all over him in front of everyone.
Yeah, no, you couldn't show your face to them ever again. You had to get new friends. Sure it would suck, making new friends was a chore and it would suck never seeing them again but that was the price you had to pay. It just couldn't be helped.
Too bad.
"Y/n!"
And now it was time to leave the country.
Cringing to yourself, you sharply exhaled and tried to physically relax.
"Hey, Will."
"Hi Y/n," He said shyly, shuffling on his feet.
"What's up?" You prayed he didn't bring it up.
"I just, I wanted to see how you were feeling. You seemed, pretty out of it."
You sighed, looking anywhere but him. You stomach had a flurry of butterflies.
"Listen, I'm really sorry. I understand if you want some space for a while."
"Y/n it's fine."
"No, it's not."
"It's forgotten. Look, I know you were on some pretty heavy stuff so, it's fine, really. So you kissed me, who cares?" He shrugged.
You eyes nearly popped out of your head and you grew nauseous.
"I what?!"
Will faltered, somehow going pale and turning pink.
"Yo-You kissed me. Don't worry though, it was just on the cheek. It's fine, really."
You backed up slightly, and turned to face the wall of lockers and buried your face in it. You wanted nothing more than the floor to swallow you whole.
Sure you were relieved to hear you didn't actually kiss him but hell, this was still ridiculously mortifying.
"Oh God," you groaned.
"Y/n," his voice was soft and for the forgiving but you hated the pity.
You only groaned louder and shook your head no hoping that would do something to ease the embarrassment.
"I can't imagine what you must think of me." You sighed, prying yourself off the lockers, but you still refuses to meet his eye.
"Well," he said, fiddling with his hands and looking down at his feet. "I thought- I thought it was kinda sweet."
Your mouth ran dry and you looked at him for the first time and ripping your gaze away from your shoes.
"W-What?"
Will smile shyly, and looked around a bit before looking back at you. He took a deep breath and spoke, the words spilling out of his mouth quickly.
"What I'm trying to say is, I like you too Y/n."
Your heart started pounding, harder than it had been before if at all possible and a nervous but happy smile tugged at your lips.
"You do?"
"Yeah, I do." He smiled sheepishly and nodded his head. "In fact, everyone has kinda been teasing me about it for some time now," he laughed and you giggled along not believing this was happening.
Your eyes met and there was a silent but mutual understanding. He held out his hand, and looked to you fondly. The same look he had in his eyes when he saw you on Friday. A look he only gave you.
"Want to head to class together?"
You looked down at his outstretched hand and you took it, smiling brightly at him, finding it endearing how shy and sweet he was.
"I'd love to,"
A look of relief washed over Will and he beamed at you. Suddenly, his face scrunched up ever so slightly and you frowned. He brought his other arm up and sneezed into his elbow.
He looked back and you laughed. "Well, I guess you were right."
"What?"
"You did give me your germs."
The words you had said to him days ago came back to you and you instantly felt guilty.
"Oh Will, I'm sorry!"
He began laughing and you couldn't stop the giggles that arose from your chest, finding the situation humorous. You were also just so relieved at how things smoothed over.
Will caught his breath and smiled genuinely. "It's okay. It's a good thing you're cute."
You were taken by surprise at his boldness, but then you realized just what he had said. Having thrown your own words back at you from your drunken-like state and you laughed, running your free hand down your face.
"Oh God, let's just get to class" you giggled.
The pair of you started walking when he looked up at you.
"In all seriousness, even if I do get your cold," He shrugged, smirking. "It was worth it."
The flurry of butterflies in your stomach doubled in numbers, and your heart fluttered.
It was now your turn to be a blushing pink mess.

Futaba headcanons master post time >:3c
Much credit to @a-missing-ache for talking to me a bunch about this girl so I could put this together~! Many of the ideas here were either ideas she had that I adopted, or things that came up in conversation with her.
- Autistic trans girl with depression, PTSD, and psychosis. Experiences paranoid delusions and visual and auditory hallucinations prior to her arc in the game. Prone to suicide idealization and intrusive thoughts. Susceptible to self-harm if her self-hatred goes unchecked.
- Some of her main special interests are computers, video games, and anime. She gets extremely hyperfixated on games that she really likes and will play them basically nonstop. She’ll play Animal Crossing for a full day if someone isn’t there to cut in and stop her.
- The coat she wears in winter is her favorite, it’s a very good texture stim and she likes to rub her face against the fluffy bit at the top. She also likes to stim with arm flaps or kicking her leggies, but she gets nervous about doing this in public.
- She wears her headphones pretty much all the time as a sensory tool. Often times she won’t have anything playing, but the headphones have a noise-cancelling mode that she leaves it on most of the time to avoid sensory overload and feel safer. She basically only takes them off if they need to charge or she knows it’s safe to. She panics when they run out of battery, but she has an additional pair of wired headphones to use when her main pair is charging. She has basically the longest battery life she could get on her wireless headphones, but since she frequently passes out at random times without turning them off or plugging them in they still die fairly frequently on her. She can’t go to sleep without some headphones on playing white noise or a podcast or quiet music from a video game.
- She goes nonverbal fairly frequently, and typically makes use of texting to communicate with others instead. If she’s alone, she’ll often call one of the other thieves (Ren most often) to have them talk to her and ground her, and sometimes speak for her if need be. After her initial arc, Sojiro learns about her texting thing and gets help from Ren with learning how to use a phone to text and starts using it to text her when she needs to.
- Sojiro’s curry is her staple food, and she eats it pretty much at least once a day for the most part.
- She’s a big coffee drinker, and she takes it black. Sojiro previously would make her a cup in the morning and bring some back from his work when he came home at night, with her leaving the room to make her own cup during the afternoon. She finds drinking it relaxing.
- Prior to meeting the Phantom Thieves, she experienced fairly regular hallucinations and delusions, often being convinced that her mother was in her room or was out to get her somehow. She would hear her mother talking to her or see her appear in her room and usually leave in a panic if she could manage to get up. Sojiro did his best to help her but really didn’t have the tools to understand what she was going through. After her Palace, she gains the confidence to be open with him about her experiences and is eventually put on medication to help with them. It doesn’t make it stop entirely, but becomes far less frequent and allows her to live a more normal life.
- She’ll sometimes have panic attacks which usually result in her laying in bed for awhile experiencing suicidal thoughts until they go away, but as time goes on she learns to manage these attacks a lot better, and avoid hurting herself or letting her intrusive thoughts run wild.
- Part of her shyness and social anxiety comes from a mix of autism, dysphoria, and a general lack of experience being out in the world. She’s easily startled and frightened and usually still needs someone to go with her any time she leaves the house. She likes to make herself small, which is why she frequently sits the way she does, and a lot of times she’ll just sit down on the floor, because she likes it there. She’ll frequently ask others to stop if she’s in too noisy of an area and begins to experience sensory overload, sit down on the floor in a quieter place somewhere and recharge.
- After the Hawaii trip, Ren decides to do video calls with Futaba sometimes so he can show her where he is or what he’s doing when she’s not feeling able to go outside that day. If she doesn’t want to show her face, she holds up a plushie or Morgana in front of her end of the screen instead.
- Part of her social anxiety is with presenting well in public, having fits of big dysphoria, and she’s pretty self-conscious about her voice, so she likes to do the texting thing a lot when she gets nervous and also just speak quietly sometimes, especially if it’s with Ren.
- She retains an issue with eating normally and still has a hard time convincing herself to eat sometimes, and will skip meals on occasion. She has a habit of texting one of the Thieves and asking them for permission to get a snack or a meal, and they always immediately tell her it’s okay, and that confirmation is enough for her. Sojiro sometimes takes her and Ren out for ice cream as a family bonding experience and she loves it. It was meant to be a one-off celebration after she recovered but she loved it so much Sojiro decided he had to make it a regular thing.
- She’s prone to taking depression naps, though before she starts recovering it’s less “depression naps” and more “she stays in her room with lights down and her curtains drawn so she has no concept of time and just kinda passes out and wakes up at random intervals with no consideration for what time it is”. She gets better about it but she falls back into weird and irregular sleeping patterns fairly often and she always hates resetting her internal clock. It’s at least easier than going until she collapses for days on end, though.
- She’ll often take naps inside her Persona, Navi, if she randomly gets tired while the group is just exploring and confirms they don’t think they’ll need her for some time. She’ll also sometimes nap in the Mona car. They’re safe, cozy little spaces that make her feel protected and comfortable so they’re prime napping spots.
- Ren has insomnia and Futaba has a really messed up sleep schedule so sometimes when they’re both awake at like 4am they’ll just text each other and sometimes play a game with one another to pass the time.
- She’s still very prone to nightmares and will sometimes wake up in a panic, and if no one is around it sometimes results in a full meltdown and in the worst case scenario she ends up getting hurt, so she tries to keep people on standby.
- She is, in fact, very funny and snarky when she wants to be, and is actually good at communicating her infodumps with humor and casual speech that makes it understandable for the others.
- If she’d not immediately involved in a conversation that involves a large enough group of people, she’ll just zone out until she’s mentioned again or feels a time to interject. Sometimes she’ll start playing phone games.
- She plays trading card games. She sometimes joins competitive tournaments online when she can, but is too scared to go to them IRL. She promises herself she’ll try it some day.
- As a disaster pansexual, she is very prone to developing crushes on any random girl at a coffee shop who’s even the littlest bit nice to her. She’s still got crushes on Ann and Haru, both of whom know it (it’s fairly obvious), but they don’t let her know that.
- She likes to pose, or do silly energetic motions just for the fun of it. She takes joy in just doing a little dance while she’s talking to someone sometimes. She likes to go “nya” also, especially around Morgana.
- She has nicknamed the position she always goes into whenever she sits (usually to make herself feel cozy and safe and also to be as small as possible) the “Futababall”.
- Before meeting the Thieves, she actually didn’t play multiplayer games very much, as even that level of interaction with others intimidated her to some degree. Ren was the first person she ever played video games with, and she kicked his ass at Smash Bros.
- She experiences periods of severe dysphoria during which she struggles to look at herself and often feels hopelessness or despair. During these periods Ren and Sojiro have taken to putting up a blanket to cover the bathroom mirror so that she can still shower normally and wash her hands and go in and out of the bathroom.
- Before her Palace, she would often go days without eating, or only eat once, through a mix of forgetting to eat, losing track of time, and convincing herself she didn’t deserve it. She sometimes relapses on this but is usually good about bouncing back after a day or two.
- The Thieves star making Futaba’s room one of their main meeting places because she feels safe and comfortable there.
- She doesn’t like it when her room is brightly lit up but if it’s pitch-dark with no lights on she becomes extremely anxious and terrified, gets jittery and sometimes has panic attacks or experiences visual hallucinations. Her preferred method is to use the light of her computer to keep the room dim, but bright enough to see everything, or having curtains half-drawn.
- She sometimes forgot to take her meds when she first started on them and this bothered her so much that she eventually began setting five distinct timers for each dose, and sometimes they’ll just all go off in succession when she’s with the group and confuse them all.
- She collects plushies of her favorite anime characters, because it’s merch you can hug!! She loves cuddling her plushies, especially when she’s feeling a bit nervous. They’re a nice sensory feeling, they remind her of her friends, and they feel safe.
- Sometimes when she’s having a hard time sleeping, she’ll invite Ren to come to her room to hang out while she falls asleep to help her feel safe. He’ll often invite Ryuji over for a date or something and she’ll help them set up a video game to play with each other while they’re there. Ryuji initially had a problem of yelling when he lost in the game and waking her up but he got better about it after awhile.
- Every morning around 5-6am Ren wakes up usually due to insomnia or nightmares and he immediately goes to check on Futaba to see if she’s asleep yet, he often finds her in her room on her laptop unaware of what time it is and when she sees him she does a little yell and jumps into bed and he reassures her that it’s ok before leaving and going back to bed.
- She likes to make fun of Ren for having a criminal record sometimes, noting that the hacking she’s done with Medjid is by far more illegal than him beating up a rich abuser once.
- She like spending time with the lady Phantom Thieves because she really likes girls and they all think it’s cute how gay she is, and try to give her tips about it. If Ren isn’t available she opts for inviting one or more of the girls to hang out with her and it makes her feel very good to be around them. Ann sometimes gives her some of her old clothes and it feels super validating for her.

March 17
I woke up this morning feeling a bit better after sleeping for a full 8 hours and taking meds again. My cough is still persistent but doesn’t hurt as bad anymore, plus, a big bonus that my body doesn’t hurt *everywhere.* However, my nose is running like 45 away from his taxes so that’s been a pleasure to handle.
Bodies are a weird thing. For a long time I had an off-again, on-again relationship with my own around positivity, opinions from lovers, and projection & acceptance of it. I don’t have to tell you the extreme pressure of a woman’s body to be anatomically incorrect and hairless and thin, but in these times of needing to extra listen to your body for health and wellness, I am damn glad my biggest “problem” is my midsection. My arms work for petting cats and my legs function well for standing in the shower. My vision to look at my beautiful yard and my hearing to listen to my partner tell me he loves me is immeasurably valuable.
...which is why I was initially so sad to find a lump underneath my right armpit last night after taking the best hot shower in recent memory. However, before anyone panics, when I was sick in December from my URTI the doctor told me it was normal to have a blocked sweatgland as a side effect. Part of me feels relieved in a weird way to see this old friend again because I know what to do, but another part of me is like:
Tumblr media
Toe-may-toe, to-mah-toe. Also, fun fact, while we’re oversharing, I stopped shaving my armpits in December when I got my first blocked sweatgland (you’ll always remember your first) because my doc said it may irritate the area. And I just didn’t pick it back up, 3 months later...
So, where are we in the healthcare game right now so I can tackle getting better? Well...here we go.
Monday:
I attempted to “get seen” by a doctor via virtual waiting room. This means scheduling a video call with a doctor so you can talk to them about what you’re feeling, and they put a visual on your symptoms. I’ve never done this before but considering all the precautions of the coronavirus, it seemed like a good idea (famous last words). Particularly if you think you have COVID-19, you should make arrangements with your health provider to get an initial screen via phone or video call first. If the symptoms persist, the nearest hospital will prep for your arrival. Because I don’t know if I have COVID-19 or a plain ol URTI again, I figured I’d give technology a shot and got my list of symptoms ready to talk with the doc about. But after having the UHC app open for 4+ hours and no bites, I closed it and attempted again this morning.
Tuesday:
Here was my schedule:
10:09am - get an email that “It’s time to join your Virtual Visit” - great! Pick up my phone to open the app and then...
10:10 - get a second email that says “A Teladoc provider was unable to reach you for your visit“ - for real? 60 seconds and then the doc bounced? Even Lyft has better waiting windows than this.
10:11-10:19 - bitch to coworkers about not being able to be seen, our healthcare system is in shambles, and I am running out of Kleenex.
10:20 - after making a cup of tea I re-join the app waiting room and decide to just keep my phone on, with the app open, for the forseeable future since I’m dealing with a REAL LIFE ONE MINUTE MAN (and subsequently go down a Missy Elliott video k-hole, which, always OK).
10:26 - get kicked out of the UHC app with a generic “we’ve experienced an error” in addition to getting completely logged out of the app somehow. At this point I am invested. I’ve been ignoring text messages and avoiding going on Instagram just to have this fucking app open. I log back in.
10:45 -  the app still shows the "We apologize for the wait. You are still in the queue for the next available provider" banner. This banner is the Hoover Dam. 11:30 -  the app is still showing the "We apologize for the wait. You are still in the queue for the next available provider" banner. I also realize the mic and video options on the app have been active this whole time. In a moment of WTF, I mute myself and position the camera to get a good view of the smoke detector on my ceiling. 12pm - I swap to FaceTime to catch up with a friend and lay out I may need to jump if UHC calls me back for the app appointment. It is good to see a face across the country that reminds me my friends are awesome. 12:45 - (in Morgan Freeman voice) "They, in fact, did not join the virtual waiting room." I take more meds in hopes my chest hurts less. I realize I'm out of Cepacol. I contemplate bum rushing Walmart and if my legs in a weakened state could make a run for it. 1:55 - I am going to murder the "We apologize for the wait. You are still in the queue for the next available provider" banner. I'm bummed that in five minutes, I will be attending a webinar called "Managing Isolation and Loneliness" and not "Managing Community Activism to Overthrow the Government and Rage." I still have my phone literally 6 inches away from my laptop, still open to the dumb app waiting for a human on the other end to validate me being sick. My husband asks me to put a blanket on my lap so I don't get cold. I tell him that if I burn the place down I will stay warm that way. I decide if I still don't get a bite by the end of this webinar, I will venture into no mans land - actually calling the patient support line for my health care provider.
6:43 - work takes precedence, and I tie up everything I can to close out my work day so I can talk to my brother. He describes his Mad Max journey heading back from Tahoe to the Bay Area with his girlfriend, which includes going to BFN for toilet paper and going on an epic search for eggs. After making my umpteenth cup of tea, I finally hunker down and call the 800 number on the back of my insurance card. I opt in for a call back and set a timer to see how long *this* process will take.
6:45 - someone calls me back. I silently yelp in surprise. What black magic is this that a phone call is faster than an app? I ask no questions. I describe my troubles to the admin: I’ve waited around in the app, I feel like shit, somehow the doc didn’t see me for my visit in the morning because I was too “slow” to log into the waiting room. While we talk an “Unknown” caller is on other side but I ignore it because I’m talking to a human. Then I get a text that a doc tried me again and I didn’t answer, so my virtual visit has now been canceled.
It took everything I had to not snap my phone in two and use it as a digital shank. I explain that to the admin who just says “Wow. Let’s just cancel this virtual visit and I’ll sign you up for a phone call consultation tomorrow.”
Hours wasted in an app to be seen: 8. Time on the phone to get scheduled: 3 minutes. Way to go, UHC. But hey! I have to keep remembering that there’s ice cream in the freezer and I don’t have a fever. And that I am flipping fortunate to actually have health insurance. Maybe tomorrow I will try my luck on day three of “I’d really like to know if Satan is going to take me away now.”
Five random thoughts for today:
The dye job for my roots I got 6 weeks ago is hanging on for dear life these days, but I urge all of you - DO NOT BOX DYE.
A friend on the East Coast FaceTimed me out of the blue yesterday, simply because I mentioned on my Instagram I wanted more human interaction. That inspired me to do more of that, too.
Last night when I took a hot shower it occurred to me this was the time I could touch my face *incessantly* without much consequence. It made me wonder if everyone’s skincare routine is gonna be next level lit and we’re all going to be just glowing in the summer.
My friends with kids who are having to stay home with them during this time are some of the fuckin MVPs of the century.
Keep track of when the last time you left the house was. For me, it was 4 days ago and I’ve figured out that is my breaking point. Because I’m sick my plan is to do a mini hike tomorrow far far away from anyone so I can at least feel fresh air.

Prompt:The repercussions of lance running out of his meds in space? Both the physical (withdrawals) and mental effects (Can be for whatever you headcanon him with or want to write but the two that come to mind is depression or adhd)
A/N: Alright, real excited for this one. One thing I’d like to establish beforehand. This is before the season two Langst and really, more like the build up to the insecurities we see Lance display. He feels pretty unimportant, and useless after this  but is still able to keep it under control. As time goes on though, (and he’s still not getting medical care) things are definitely going to snowball into what we’ve seen. Threw in some training whump too. Also since Hunk is the unproblematic fav, he’s really gonna help Lance out. Finally, I bet the pacing of this is going to be all frigged up, so I’m sorry in advance :(
Lance was lucky that he’d even held out for so long.
It a week after him and the other paladins had left earth before he’d completely run out of pills, and it was two days after that when his downward spiral began.
At first, there’d only been a loneliness. Small reminders that he couldn't go home. Lance felt saddened by this, but pushed through. Thencame the irritability, not only with small inconveniences like stubbing his toe but also the regular actions of his teammates. Suddenly, Keith and his temper was just too much. Pidge’s genius brain became an annoying reminder of all that Lance wasn’t and Hunk’s careful but close nature became smothering.
Lance would do anything to just get some alone time.
The next day however, was no relief. In the early hours of the morning, Coran’s voice echoed through the hallways loudly, waking everyone, even the mice. The Altean effectively reminded the humans of the ship that training would take place on the deck and not in the official training room. Which everyone had already known!
Quiznack, Lance did not want to get up. There was a persistent pulsing between Lance’s blue eyes, one that he’d fallen asleep with, but now it seemed to be more of a pressure that extended to the sides of Lance’s head from his temple and ears to his jaw.
Would anyone even care if he skipped?
No, they’d be more irritated than anything else then they’d come looking for him, and realize!what was going on. That was a conversation Lance was insistent on not having.
Reluctantly, Lance pushed himself from his wall bed thing. He was quick to don his under armor and skipped his daily skincare routine. He’d be probably be late if he put it on, so instead he moved straight to the deck of the ship.
When Lance had gotten there, he was greeted by the rest of his friends and frighteningly bright surroundings. Keith was also there. He was the first to talk to Lance, setting up their daily banter.
“What? Did you drag your feet or something? Come on, we’ve got to train.” Lance just scowled. He was in no mood to interact with people.
His lack of response definitely set the tone for the room making Allura begin her instruction.
“Alright Paladins,” she said. “I’ve realized that each of you are fairly unaccustomed to planets that have gravities different than earth’s. Today, to give you some experience with alternative conditions, you’ll each be running an obstacle course while Coran periodically readjusts the gravity of the ship.” Allura seemed to wait a moment for a comment but when there was none she continued.
“Shiro, you will go first.”
Shiro nodded dutifully, and moved to the starting line, pushing off and beginning the course when the stopwatch started. He was quick and there’d probably be 4 minutes or so before the next paladin had to begin.
Lance’s brow creased, he wasn't sure if he’d be able to get through this course without spilling his goo all over the floor. Or in the air. They were playing with gravity after all.
“Is it the withdrawal?”
Lance jumped. Hunk had come out of nowhere! The teen swiveled to face his friend and almost sized him up before simply saying,
“We aren't going to talk about that here.”
Hunk frowned. Lance wasn’t usually that hostile with him, or anyone for that matter.
“But it is that, right?”
Lance rolled his pulsating eyes and nodded.
“Do you think you’ll be okay?”
Lance nodded again. He was starting to feel like a friggin’ bobble head.
“Okay man, just let me know if you need to tap out of practice. I’m sure the rest of them will understand.” Hunk said.
Then, without warning came the loud whirring noise the fired up the gravity controls. The effects were not so intense that the paladins were floating, but now, when Shiro would jump from one platform to the other, he lingered in air for a few moments longer.
Lance frowned, this didn’t feel great on his somewhat sensitive stomach but he could push through when his time came.
But, not a moment after Shiro landed from a large jump did the gravity shift again, this time so heavy that everyone, Altean’s included, found themselves fighting the sudden pull toward the floor.
The sudden switch from low to high gravity was no good for Lance and the receding pain ghosting in his shoulders and neck had instantaneously quadrupled. The boy grunted in alarm then pulled away when Hunk tried patting him on the back.
“Don’t touch me!” he hissed.
“Sorry! Sorry man, don’t worry. I won't again.”
In his head, Hunk checked off irritability on Lance’s list of symptoms along with hypersensitivity. That wasn't all though, Hunk could tell.
“Is there anything else?” Hunk asked softly.
Lance shook his head and made Hunk frown. Lance was lying but Hunk couldn't force him to tell him anything, or even get him to tell the others about his medications. It was Lance’s business and Hunk was privileged to even know about it in the first place. He wouldn’t push his luck, especially now while Lance was going through withdrawal.
“Lance, it’s your turn.” time must have passed quicker than the blue paladin thought. He stood, and took a shaky step forward with his wobbly knees.
The timer began before he’d even gotten to the line and from the corner of his eye, Lance saw Allura tapping her foot impatiently. What the hell was her problem?
“What are you doing Lance?” she called.
Lance huffed and ignored her, moving into a jog to a pair of walls. God he wasn’t some parkour expert, how was he supposed to use the walls to get across the gap?
With jerky and rushed movements Lance pushed from wall to wall as quickly as he could, cursing the universe all the while. It wasn’t a long obstacle in the slightest but it dragged out for Lance. When the paladin pushed off the final wall and landed in an unbalanced roll.
Lance rushed up and started to take off again, out of breath.
Now there were high monkey bars to swing to- Lance took a running jump and his hands clasped around the first metal bar then using his momentum to breeze through the first three bars. On the fourth however, the whirring noise rung through the room and Lance felt his hand begin to slip from the bar he was holding onto- his body was being pulled to the floor by the increased gravity, his neck and shoulders pulling against the strain.
Lance fell. His body slammed to the ground with an undignified yelp and suddenly, he couldn't breath. Lance shuddered and wheezed and gasped for air on the hard tiled(?) floor.
Footsteps wildly raced towards him and Hunk was in his line of vision.
“Lance! Are you okay?” He roughly swiveled to the other paladins.
“I'm taking him to the infirmary!”  Hunk practically shouted.
“Uh.” Keith began flatly. “Don’t you think you’re overreacting?”
Hunk shook his head vehemently. “Lance could have a concussion!”
Lance sat up, “No I do not, Hunk. I can finish the course.”
“Look at him!” Hunk cried. “He’s clearly delirious!”
Shiro gave way while Allura gave a questioning look.
“Are humans really that fragile?” She said while Hunk dragged Lance behind him from the room.
“Not usually.” •When Lance got to the medical bay with Hunk, he was about ready to blow. He had a massive headache, his muscles hurt and cramped no matter what he did and then Hunk was making everything worse by making Lance seem so incompetent. Like he couldn't even finish a training session.
‘But You couldn't.’ A voice in the back of Lance’s mind admitted.
“Come on, Allura showed me where a few things are. You can take something for the headache and go to sleep.”
‘You’re in bad shape, Lance.’
Silently, Lance did follow Hunk. He wasn't all to happy but, maybe the meds could help a little.
A/N: You know what, I’ve been working on this the past few days and I just don’t think that I can write the whole thing in one shot, so there’s this and if you guys want I can write one or two more bits as a continuation of this. Personally I think that that would work better but if you don’t like this then we can just leave it here
