Definitely late to getting October’s Reading post up; but between giving my candidates a lot of attention, field time, and general forgetfulness (oops), I’m finally getting it up! October’s books consisted of the following: Tim O’Brien’s classic war novel about his experiences in Vietnam characterized by the the things him and his comrades carried through the conflict, both physical and metaphorical; Robert Hienlien’s timeless sci-fi novel on militarism, coming of age, and civil society set in a distant future. IVE READ THIS BOOK BEFORE! It’s called “The Things They Carried” and it was an almost fictional look into this dude’s life via the war and ptsd and honestly this story was my 2nd favorite because,,, hell yeah, become feral my love.

I’m actually done, I refuse to read a book with a female character in it written by a man over 40. I never thought I would ever had to read the phrase “she had D cup guts, but a trainer bra brain”

The Things They Carried: Mary Anne The thrill of beginning a brand new idea. Sometimes the rough thumbnails are my favorite part. Halfway through this eerily trancelike novel... Mary Anne and the call of the jungle. The beautiful side of evil. She reminds me of a female version of Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now. My Plein air painting gear and pack. I have a few bags that I dedicate for drawing set ups. Some for just quick sketching others for painting this one is for watercolor and gouache. I can narrow down a few more brushes but for the most part I use everything in this bag. I have 2 watercolor sketchbooks with a small ruler. Pencil Pouch with water soluble pencils, one mechanical pencil and one natural. 3 Waterproof ink Brush pens, 2 ink liners and pencil sharpener. 5 paint marker pens and pocket brushes (over kill on brushes) Plastic container to hold my gouache paints and tin box pallet and spring clamps. I also have a cup with lid and extra water for watercolor and gouache. Paper towels and a rag for cleaning pallets and brushes. I have a home made “James Gurney” sketch Easel that attaches to a tripod. I have a watercolor color travel kit and a brush holder with to many brushes. I wrote a grant and was awarded a grade level set of both novels (enough books for every student in my freshman course to take home - 150 of each title). I'll hand O'Brien's novel over to my 10th grade colleague since it's in her curriculum but guess what I'll be doing with Life of Pi this summer?
