So Godzilla, being film franchise that dates back to the 20th century, understandably lacks a large female cast, I wanted to see how many female kaiju the series actually has, but while thinking this over an interesting thought occurred
Japanese, as a language, has some differences regarding pronouns compared to English, and a lot of Kaiju get referred to in much more gender neutral language in original Japanese than they do in English, this has resulted in some interesting fan interpretations over the years regarding the genders of kaiju, and you bet I'm going to catalogue the ones I've encountered
Starting off, the explicitly canon female kaiju of the Godzilla cast:
Mothra
Biollante
Zilla (I think the movie tried to deny it, but the cartoon confirmed it, although final wars zilla is another question)
Megaguirus
Monsterverse actually brings a number of explicitly female kaiju into the fold including:
The female Muto from 2k14
Barb, the other female Muto
Scylla
Tiamat
Na Kika (formerly Kraken)
Shimo
Phosphera
Some of the other unseen titans from King of the Monsters might also be ladies, but given as they are still unseen, that's just blind speculation
Now we get to the interesting part, the fan interpretations
Manda, Kumonga, and Destoroyah all being female is a pretty common and old fan interpretation, I know from firsthand experience that it at least dates back to the 2000s, but it could even be older
Baragon by comparison is far more recent, and I know for a fact this interpretation can be sourced primarily to the fact that in GMK, Baragon's performer was Rie Ota, and a behind the scenes clip of her doing the roars in the suit made waves around the fandom and even outside it in the 2010s
Hedorah is another more recent one, but interestingly enough I've also seen enby, bigender, and genderfluid interpretations of Hedorah as well. I guess there's something about the smog monster that screams gender to fans
Titanosaurus is again a newer interpretation, but fascinatingly a even newer idea has popped up in the past couple years that Titanosaurus is the kaiju equivalent of a femboy twink
Rodan being female is a very interesting case, both in origin and mainly due to the fact it only really applies to the Showa continuity and various fan continuities that desire. Basically the origin of this is that in the original 1956 film Rodan, there are two Rodans, a mating pair. At the end they both fall into Mt. Aso. When Rodan reemerges from Mt. Aso in Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, there's only one. There's been speculation for years as to the origin of this Rodan, but for the longest time it was either assumed to be the male or somehow the child of the pair from the original movie. But in 2010s a new idea rose to greater prominence: What if the Rodan that survived and subsequently appeared in the rest of the Showa films was the female of the pair?
Battra is an uncommon interpretation, but I have observed it
@lydiathespiderqueen did some fanart of a female version of Toho's Frankenstein, as well as the Gargantuas, and it's really good
and @thesilkenlair did a compelling analysis of Spacegodzilla being female due to possessing physical characteristics of Biollante, as well as their behavior in the movie lining up disturbingly well with a phenomenon in nature where an animal will kill or try to kill the extant children of a prospective mate so undivided attention can be given to it and any potential offspring it may have
And that's all I've encountered, please do tell if I've missed some
#godzilla#kaiju#I'm very much in favor of these interpretations#lord knows this series needs more female characters#but it would be nice to know the origin of some of these interpreations#mothra#biollante#zilla#megaguirus#muto#queen barb#scylla#tiamat#na kika#shimo#phosphera#manda#kumonga#destoroyah#baragon#hedorah#titanosaurus#rodan#battra#sanda#gaira#spacegodzilla#yeesh that's a lot of tags

Why don't you like Five for Fighting, if you don't mind me asking?
imo, he’s whiny, mediocre, pandering, and downright annoying. Also his music is just really generic. No hate if you like him but just I don’t understand why anyone does, also listening to that stupid song every hour for hours on end every day when I worked at a supermarket really takes it’s toll on someone. I didn’t like him before that either but that’s why that song is my greatest enemy lol but I do appreciate the ask! Oh I almost forgot, I don’t wanna use the word cringe for someone else’s yum so I’m gonna use bland instead, even without that context I do think he and his music are extremely milquetoast
#thesilkenlair#answered#like I know I’m not his demographic#pop rock? if you could call it that#I guess just some form of pop#just isn’t my scene#it’s physically ear-grating and quite insufferable to me

Artwork by my friend Drakontarachne. Deviantart can be found here, and webcomic can be found @elementaldragonscomic. Seriously go check xem our, xir artwork is really cool.
These five dragons are figures from my personal setting. In it, there are five species of dragons known as Elemental Orms, with each one corresponding to a specific element. They are:
Lumbrax: Orms of LightDark
Leviathans: Orms of Water
Phintoatls: Orms of Air
Behemoths: Orms of Earth
Salonix: Orms of Fire
These five specifically are the individual Orms who became the First World, Urobia. The Salonix became the Core, the Behemoth the Crust, the Leviathan the Seas, the Phintoatl the Skies, and the Lumbrax the Celestial Sphere. They’re also the Creator Gods for the Mortal Lineages: the Lumbrax created the Wugians (Invertebrates), the Leviathan created the Piscians (Fish), the Phintoatl created the Saurians (Amphibians and Reptiles), the Behemoth created the Therians (Mammals), and the Salonix created the Avians (Birds).
Despite transforming into a planet, the souls of these five can be reached, and they serve as the Supreme Nature Gods for Urobia.
Gonna @ some people I think might be interested:

Yesterday, I completed TWO commissions!
Commission #1, is a piece of gift art! Commissioned by @dinoslayer84 for @thesilkenlair ! Features her as a moth as well as an adorable Skullcrawler named Milton!
The second is perhaps the greatest and most insane DnD campaign I’ve ever heard of. It’s called “Narnia off-the rails”. Yes. It is Narnia Dark Souls-ified. And it does indeed have Geralt in it!

@thesilkenlair ran a Transformers one-shot where I played Waspinator, and it was good! Also several others, some of which I played in.
Recently I'd been rewatching the No Small Feat campaign and I started wondering something during the Menagerie Arc (my favourite arc of the campaign so far btw). You've been pretty transparent about this campaign's fairy tale motif, from general archetypes such as Leonie being a take on the Disobedient Girl to characters and plots taken wholesale and placed into Midgaheim like Sir George and Jack and the Beanstalk. Even the one other arc I couldn't name a particular fairy tale equivalent, the Heartless Witch, feels enough like a fairy tale plot to fit, but the Menagerie arc, aside from the significant presence of Sir George, seems like the odd one as a fantasy flavoured Jurassic Park homage. So is there some fairy tale inspiration to that arc I'm missing, or did you really just decide to diverge from the rest of the campaign's theme for that one arc as an excuse to introduce more of Midgaheim's various fantasy beasties (this is valid btw, it is as said above mt fave so far)?
Ok, I could bullshit that Jurasisc Park is, in its own way, a fairy tale - a rich king commands the finest wizards in the land to bring dragons back from the dead and place them in his menagerie, defying the gods with his hubris, only for them to prove unruly and destroy the kingdom in the process, leaving the king humbled and destitute by his hubris. It's a morality play about folly and hubris and not breaking the rules of the world as much as, say, the story of Grandfather Death - is bringing dinosaurs back that much different from using Death's shotglass to subvert the natural rhyme and rhythm of the cycle of life?
I could do that. I could claim that bullshit is true.
But the fact is that @dinosaurana pitched a character who wants to build a pokedex of 100 monsters, and I was figuring out how to make sure we encountered at least 100 monsters (with some to spare in case my players missed some of them). And I've always been enamored with the idea of a medieval take on Jurassic Park - of finding some obscure rich weirdo who's captured a bunch of dangerous, rare mythic animals, and all hell breaks loose. I tried it out in a couple of my earliest D&D campaigns, in fact, but was never quite satisfied - and I ultimately realized this campaign would be a good fit.
It may break the pattern of the fairy tale homages that the other arcs have, but it's not like any of them were particularly bound by fairy tales - the story of Kaboldt's manor turned out quite differently than Bluebeard, after all, and so on with the others. And, well, to go back to that bullshit above, while a Jurassic Park homage may not fit the theming of the allusions in this campaign, it does fit the overall theme and structure of fairy tales if you think hard about it.
Plus, I got to throw in a shit ton of monsters.

@thesilkenlair @lydiathespiderqueen
Someday I really want someone to make a series about a team of magical girls, expect they’re all adults now and thought their days of saving the world with the power of friendship and glitter was behind them. But now some new evil has emerged, and they’re all suddenly finding their powers coming back after being dormant for years, and after a couple days of desperately hoping a new team of fifteen year olds would appear to take care of this, they eventually realize that it’s all up to them.
So that means digging through old boxes of keepsakes to figure out where they stuck their Rainbow Twinkle Wand after they finished saving the world the first time around, and hoping the outfit still fits (it’s a magical transformation, so yes, it adapts to their adult bodies and fits perfectly, even though it’s a lot more frills and sparkles than they’ve worn in a very long time.) Also gotta get used to yelling their attack names, because the magic doesn’t work otherwise. One lady shouts ‘Strawberry Lipbalm Ray!’ and blasts a monster into oblivion, and then stares off into the middle distance because she’s 30 years old and has a mortgage.

thesilkenlair replied to your post “Seven of Nine fucking rocks.”
Fuck yeah she does, but why specifically?
Because I’ve seen a dozen or so episodes with her now and every time she shows up she does awesome shit or, like, brings great drama to the table or has a great one-liner. She’s just a great fucking character and I love her.

Working on a Character Design/Worldbuilding Project. Need Help on Certain POC and Multi-Religious characters.
Hey everyone! Working on a character design project, it’s my kaiju-verse, Terra-2! Revamped thanks to the encouragement of many of my friends. (An incomplete list includes @tyrantisterror @akitymh @akitymh @thesilkenlair @w00tnewt @miuzes and so much). @dinosaurana is already helping me, and I appreciate that a LOT, but it’s always good to talk to someone familiar of the cultures, religions and POC themselves. I already wrote the basic backstories for the characters, because my mindset is always to think of people as people first, but I feel like it’s always good to ask for more help. Especially since one of the main protag’s Romani, as well as a Jewish character as part of the supporting cast.
If anyone can help, that would be great!
